1930s Loookbook

After the roaring 20s, fashion became more conservative in the 1930s, with hair and hemlines getting longer again. The era was defined by the great depression, after the stock market crashed in 1929, and lasted through almost the whole decade. Many families during this time began making dresses from flour sacks, and so companies began printing textiles on the sacks for extra reusability. Despite the decade's widespread poverty, fashion themes of femininity and elegance prevailed, inspired by Hollywood stars like Joan Crawford.

Spoilers if you have not read the comic

To start things off Clark is talking about enjoying the snow and Christmas and it will be his first Christmas in Metropolis. We get our title, a possible reference to The Man Who Fell to Earth, the novel by Walter Tevis where an alien who lands on Earth and seeks to bring his people there due to a drought on his home world. Very apt title for a Superman comic I should say.

Also check out Batman/Santa Claus: Silent Knight for a cool crossover between the DC heroes and Santa Claus, its FUCKING AWESOME!

We then see Clark talking about his Christmas experience back in Kansas with Ma and Pa Kent, but he'll be all alone on his first Christmas in Metropolis. Luckily for him Lois and Jimmy are planning special for him but they need the other Daily Planet trio to distract Clark from figuring out the plans. I talked more about them here.

Back at their office Jimmy and Lois plan out what they'll do for Clark's Christmas in Metropolis and Jimmy mentions the Metropolis Monarchs, Metropolis' baseball team who are first mentioned in Atlas of the DC Universe. We also see Kaiju Parasite/Ivo and Overman in the next panel, both of which I talk about here, here, here, and here.

Trouble happens when the Daily Planet begins to topple over and Superman goes to put it back but notices hand prints that melted the base of the building. He, Lois, and Jimmy investigate in the sewers and sees an Amazo robot inspired Parasite. I talked more about the Amazo robot and Parasite here and here, they're the same links as the ones above in the previous section in case you missed them. The Parasite suit here is more Amazo inspired thanks to the green striping on the body.

The second Parasite is able to adapt to Superman's powers like his super strength and before it gets taken down my the US military it tell Superman to "please save me". Robert DuBois arrives on the scene to clear the Parasite's body away. That name may sound familiar to you if you saw the latest Suicide Squad movie because...

Robert DuBois is Bloodsport. He makes his first appearance in Superman #4 (1987) [Cover art by John Byrne]. In the comics Robert was supposed to be drafted for the Vietnam War, but was afraid to go and fled to Canada so his brother, Mickey went instead. Unfortunately Mickey lost his arms and legs and that scarred Robert who then seeked help at the Canadian psychiatric wards.

Lex would then find Robert and outfit him with his outfit you see on the cover and give him weapons that fired green Kryptonite to hopefully kill Superman and a teleportation device that can teleport any weapon he wants to his hands.

Luckily Robert surrendered after Jimmy was able to locate his brother to tell him to stop his rampage and give up and was sentenced to Stryker's Island.

Other Bloodsports have taken up the mantle after Robert, such as Alex Trent, a racist piece of shit, and an unnamed person who dressed similarly to Robert's Bloodsport costume. But the one pop culture knows is Robert DuBois who was played by Idris Elba in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad movie from 2021.

In current continuity we see Robert be more designed to look like his movie counterpart and being part of the Suicide Squad too as shown here from Suicide Squad #5 (2021) [W: Robbie Thompson, P&I: Dexter Soy, Eduardo Pansica, Joe Prado, and Julio Ferreira, C: Alex Sinclair, L: Wes Abbot] where he is on Earth - 3, the evil counterparts Earth for a Task Force X mission.

Well it was a long wait, but the trailer for Sonic 3 has finally dropped.

And I am BEYOND excited! This trailer was so epic, and there are so many things crammed into it that I don't even know where to start.

First off, Shadow looks and sounds awesome! I know it was a rumor that Keanu Reeves would be playing him, and now that we get to hear him he definitely was the right choice for Shadow.

We get our first look at Maria Robotnik, and all I can say is I'm gonna be weeping when it happens.

Having Jim Carrey play both Ivo AND Gerald Robotnik was unexpected but brilliant.

Team Sonic at some Chuck-E Cheese place with Chao as the animatronics. (I guess Chao only exist in the movie universe as a mascot)

Shadow on his motorcycle is great to see.

Shadow creating a mini black hole which I can't say I've seen him do before. (unless this is tied to his Chaos powers somehow)

And last I want to mention is they play an instrumental version of Live & Learn in the trailer which is a fitting song choice to go with.

Overall, I am so ready for when this comes out, opening night, popcorn and snacks, this is gonna be epic!

What can I say- this particularly monstrous incarnation of the doc has stuck with me ever since I first saw him, and even as the years have gone on he remains my favorite take on Sonic’s eternal nemesis. The former Warlord Acorn and the current Tyrant of Mobius, he may be gone, but he will never truly be forgotten.

Magnus Archives Relisten 8, MAG 8 Burned Out, Spoiler-Free Version

Mag 8 analysis! I have listened to this episode twice and am okay mentally.

Facts: Statement of Ivo Lensik regarding his experiences during construction at 105 Hilltop Road. Statement given March 13, 2007.

Statement Notes: This is a classic haunted house. Not a superstructure or cursed land or living space, but a house possessed by what once lived within it. Raymond Fielding lived in this house, and then he died in it, and he is going to make this everybody else's problem. He has unfinished business, he has a message he is trying to send. But like any spirit, you won't understand until it's too late.

Character Notes: I found Ivo to be a really compelling character. He had a positive demeanor, an interesting backstory, and a very strong approach to dealing with the supernatural. Overall a cool guy and awesome character I would have liked to hear more from.

Agnes' death is such a visceral image. It's a brief paragraph at the end of the statement. It's one of Jon's "And yet..." moments, intended to leave you with just a little bit of fear when you unplug the headphones. But that connection to the tree, to her childhood home. It's a simple section of text, but so vivid and full of imagery and meaning. Especially because we had only been exposed to her as a young child, and she left us as an improbably young but grown woman who we will never fully know or understand.

When the statement ended, the only thought going through my head was, "Mean Jon! Mean mean Jon!" He was foul with this one. First he goes on a tangent about schizophrenia and head trauma being second only to drug use as a means of seeing ghosts, then he immediately roasts Gertrude's filing system again.

He loves to go off about Martin and Tim being incompetent compared to Sasha, but who found a history of the house's ownership? Who interviewed Anna Kasuma? Who found Agnes' death report? Ya bois.

Canon isn't real - I'd rather believe NANANA is just a fever dream, as well as some other Egg Memos. (also finding it difficult to wrap my head around the fact that Ivo and Maria are related via two sons rather than a son, Ivo's father, and a daughter, Maria's mother. idk man that just doesn't seem right)

I am so normal about them - if my recent posts have been any indication, it's that Simpline lives on in my heart. also the fact that he's still my AO3 avatar :B I want their gender - I wish my fashion sense was as immaculate as Starline's

Everyone else is wrong about them - he was better as an eggsimp. he needs someone more dominant to play off of. he's not a strong enough character to run the show by himself. not to mention, "Toothpaste Snively" is funny xP

Fandom is so mean smh - is it just me, or did fandom collectively decide to dunk him in the trash when Flynn did? Saying he "deserved it" and everything? Yes, he was a scumbag, but did even he deserve a gruesome death following a mental breakdown and for his life to be summed up as "big oof"? It just feels... meanspirited.

Canon isn't real if I don't look at it - Starline didn't die after breaking up with Eggman. He just went cray-cray for a while after Eggman betrayed him and he wound up crawling back to his ex, Bordeaux :)

That's a solid design right there - probably the only one that's halfway decent out of the IDW-exclusive cast lol

Squeak - his windpipe certainly squeaks when Eggman uses him as a stress ball it's fun putting him through humiliating situations. Starline degradation kink is 100000% canon. I bet the director's cut of IDW had a deleted scene where he served as Eggman's footstool

Bastard - not nearly enough to surpass Eggman's villainy, mind you - does he even have a body count? lol. lmao, even. rofl, if you will - but I have to admit kidnapping kids and brainwashing them is prooooobably not all that ethical xP

For the sonic kids AU: Does shadow and mephiles live with ivo :o and is maria & gerald robotnik alive and part of this au? This au intrigues me.. Also guessing blazes “older brother” is big the cat XD pretty awesome

Maria and Gerald are indeed still alive and have roles in the au! Shadow and Mephiles were adopted by Maria’s parents when they were both very young, and they lived in the city until about halfway through the last semester of fourth grade when they moved to Sonic’s town due to Maria’s health! in this au since there’s no 50 year time gap, Eggman is Maria’s uncle instead of her cousin. Gerald is still her grandfather and a really good doctor who lives in the area, which is one of the reasons why they moved there. Shadow doesn’t like him, though, and he’s old enough to realize that Maria isn’t doing well, which is why in the game there’s a lot of drama in that area. he’s working through some stuff!

and you are correct, Blaze’s older brother is Big, who’s a biologist of some kind and off catching fish and frogs in a rainforest somewhere. he plays an EXTREMELY minor role in this au haha

Bear Witcher/Arnaghad Headcannons

Here's a list of Bear Headcannons because I can't stop thinking about them. They won't leave my brain no matter how much I try.

-their fighting style is more about dodging than a lot of the Bears' lore says. (Actually I don't think this is a headcannon I think they have confirmed in like the TRPG and that "what Witcher school are you?" quiz that their armor is super flexible for dodging and that they're just very good with quen so the school got a reputation for tanking blows)

-they hate authority/are possibly anarchists. Another low key cannon one. The Cat School lore in Gwent lists the Bears as "firebrands", Arnaghad is cited over and over as having trouble with authority, as does Gerd and Ivo's lore. Honestly so many people connect Lambert to the Cat School but he'd fit right in with the Bears too.

-Arnaghad got a following and respect from other Witchers because of his hatred for authority. Most Witchers, ESPECIALLY early era Witchers, did not come to the Order of their own choice, and I think Arnaghad speaking his mind about the school not needing a code that further takes choice away from future Witchers is what earned him support.

-Arnaghad was a slave. I think this because he comes from Gemmera, a country bordered by several nations that practice slavery, and we know the Order was not above buying test subjects. It also explains why he "hated anyone who tried to impose their will on him."

-Arnaghad attacked Rhys because he lost a student. I have no evidence to support this one at all, I just like the idea of Arnaghad losing a student to the Trial of the Grasses, and him going off to hunt a monster, so he can work through his grief with violence, finding Rhys already took the contract, and not getting to picky about what target he tried to kill while grieving. I especially think it's be sad if Rhys, seeing Arnaghad, went to comfort him about his dead student, only for Arnaghad to draw his sword before he can get a word out. It humanizes him without excusing his violence.

-Gryphon, the Order's swordmaster who inspired the creation of the Griffin Witchers, picked on Arnaghad. Gemmera, Arnaghad's homeland, supposedly constantly attacked it's neighbors including Gryphon's home country, so I think the idea of Gryphon treating Arnaghad as a barbarian fits his character, and a lot of Witcher esque themes of knightly hypocrisy.

-the Bears were the most successful school. This one is just economics. When the Bears left the Order of Witchers, the location they picked to set up shop was on a massive mountain range bordering the North and South. Anyone who wanted to pass through or around that mountain range for things like trade would need a guide, and who better than a Witcher who had been trained on those mountains? Toussaint especially would need protection to get their wine across the mountains, and the Bear's final trial was on Mt. Gorgon.

-Skellige hero worships the Bears. Kind of implied already, but I love the idea that the Skellige armor sets you get, which look a lot like the Bear school gear, were inspired by tales of the Bear school, since we know the Skelligers loved them.

The Sonic X dub was not as bad as people said it was.

When I see that people hating on Sonic X, they have the number one reason why they hate the show: the English dub by 4kids is what made people hate the show. The 4kids dub of Sonic X is considered by many to be the worst things to have ever happen to the Sonic fandom because the dub had a lot of censorship, whacky voice acting, major plot rewrites, and replacement music. Because of that, people hold it as the reason why people hate Sonic X. However, I grew up with the up since i was six in 2009 and upon rewatch, it still holds up and it was not the unholy entity that people said it was. I am going to give you the reasons why the Sonic X dub is still worth watching despite and looking past the censorship and plot rewrites.

The first thing that made me fell in love with the dub is the wonderful voice acting that the dub has given us to lend the voices of the characters. Jason Griffith was phenominal as both Sonic and Shadow which he distincts himself with both Sonic and Shadow with his voice. Dan Green made Knuckles sounds so belivable compared to the other voice actors for the character. Lisa Ortiz gave Amy Rose the perfect spunk and fiery spirit while also giving her caring and friendly personality. Amy Palant as Tails was the most natural boy sounding voice that make the character sound so youthful and natural at the same time. I know that many people will hate me for this, but Kathleen Delany has to be the perfect choice for Rouge the Bat. She makes Rouge sound so unique and natural despite sounding older. Suzanne Goldish as Chris makes the character sound natural and tolerable for the audience. And finally, the main star of the dub voice cast is Mike Pollock as Dr. Ivo Eggman Robitnik. Pollock gave Eggman the balance of humor, compassion, and devious sides that other voice actors couldn't match. Yet, this is my first reason why I defend the Sonic X dub.

The second reason why I like the dub is the awesome dub opening titled "Gotta Go Fast", with the lyrics written by Norman J Grossfeld and it was sung by Russell Velazquez. The theme song literally captured the spirit of the franchise and the show as a whole. The theme song is peak 2000s pop-punk rock themed music that was coming out from that decade and the song reflected the decade's style.
