The very highlight of my convention visit, hell that's only putting it lightly for what an honor it was to meet my childhood hero. I hope you have a nice one Don Bluth. 🐭 As well as Phillip Glasser (VA for Fievel) Honestly I was so nervous seeing two idols in one room lolol.

In Shadow the Hedgehog (2005), during the cutscene wherein the GUN Commander reveals his backstory, there are several stasis pods other than Shadow's in the background of Gerald Robotnik's lab.
While obscured in the game itself due to framing and a strong bloom effect, the models in the pods are in fact textured and, when properly viewed, appear to be failed or unfinished Shadows. The way these specimens have formed seems to imply that Shadow the Hedgehog was formed wholly from some sort of alien substance rather than artificially gestated.

If the Sonic the Hedgehog Encyclo-speed-ia is to be believed, while their cameos during the Act's boss fight are simply Heavy Magician assuming their likenesses, the given Hooligan (Fang the Sniper, Bean the Dynamite, or Bark the Polar Bear) seen before the start of Mirage Saloon Zone Act 2 is the real deal.

In the 48th issue of IDW’s Sonic the Hedgehog, Mobian versions of Conan Edogawa and Ran Mori can be found in a group of many other Easter-egg characters.
The Detective Conan series has been the subject of cameos and references in several pieces of Sonic the Hedgehog media.

In episode 39 of Sonic X, Japanese dub only, Vector the Crocodile can be found doing an imitation of Conan, along with his catchphrase. He also mimics several other anime detectives as well, which was cut out from the English dub.

Finally, in The Murder of Sonic the Hedgehog (2023), Miles ‘Tails’ Prower and Barry the Quokka pose in a similar manner to Conan’s signature deduction pose.

From left to right: TEDY, LIDY, and PATY.
In Sonic Adventure (1998), Birdie and his siblings all have internal names. Birdie's internal name does not share any similarities with his name in either the English or Japanese script, but it is superficially similar to the name of his counterpart in Sonic X (2003), Lily.

In the Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (1993) episode "Robotnikland," the sequence of Dr. Robotnik, Scratch, and Grounder running through Sonicland references several visual gags from the 1931 Fleischer Studios short "Bimbo's Initiation."

“The angle of the nose is like this…” A mountain top in the Starfall Islands, where white snow shines in the clear sky. Inspired by the Koco’s playing, Sage immerses herself in building the family snowman. Struggling with unfamiliar manual work, she gives shape to her images. [X]
While Sage is capable of physically interacting with objects, her partially incorporeal form seems to somewhat impede her fine motor skills.

This actually makes sense in hindsight because the name Robotnik does sound like it would be of Slavic origin. Especially interesting considering that back when this manga was made, the name Robotnik wasn't really associated with Eggman in Japanese media.
Reminds me of how the English VA for Eggman in the Sonic OVA inexplicably slipped into a Russian accent for a couple scenes. lol

In the Sonic the Hedgehog (1992) manga, specifically the stories illustrated by Sango Morimoto, Dr. Eggman had a winter outfit that appeared several times. This outfit mainly consisted of a red overcoat and boyar hat, the latter being a type of fur hat of Russian origin.

It's interesting to me that they at one point took elements from Dune as inspiration when revamping Eggman for Sonic Adventure, because I always thought he had some similarities to Baron Harkonnen in the old SatAM cartoon. Just a funny coincidence. lol

European-Style Yellow Planet of Sand suit Red Black Red White
In concept art for Dr. Eggman's Sonic Adventure (1998) redesign, one of the outfit concepts has the label "Planet of Sand suit," Planet of Sand (砂の惑星, Suna no wakusei) being what the Dune franchise is typically referred to as in Japan.
Based on the appearance of the outfit in question, it's likely that its source of inspiration was the character Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, specifically his appearance in Dune (1984).

According to an interview with Christian Whitehead in 2022 (X), an element of the Hard Boiled Heavies backstory that went unexplained in Sonic Mania (2017) was the exact nature of their transformation by the Phantom Ruby. According to Whitehead, the idea was that the Phantom Ruby caused the personality of the critters empowering them to fuse with and infect their Egg Robo AI, resulting in the different roles and temperaments of the Heavies.
Which critter each Heavy was powered by was also decided on, with Whitehead revealing the following:
Heavy Gunner - Pig (Picky)
Heavy Magician - Penguin (Pecky)
Heavy Rider - Monkey (Wocky)
