he handed it to you and you squeezed some on the tips of your fingers. you lathered it up and started rubbing circles and massaging it into your face.

niki watched as you looked ethereal with the steam of the warm water surrounding and highlighting your beautiful features. he took some face wash in his fingers and did the same.

you rinsed your face and niki mimicked your actions. the slow music from your playlist on shuffle made the moment sweeter. his eyes caught yours and you both smiled softly.

he leaned in and pressed a soft yet passionate kiss to your lips. you wrapped your arms around his neck and felt the water from his forehead hit yours and on to your eyelid.

what felt like twenty minutes later was actually twenty seconds. it was like time stopped when you kissed him. he pulled away and he left you a bit dizzy from the kiss.

he noticed your eyes that were slowly but surely spacing out and he leaned in again. his pretty, pink lips molded against yours, felt amazing. its almost as if they were handcrafted by your guardian angel that knew what you needed.

your hands were playing with the blonde hairs on his neck and his hands were on your waist, deepening the kiss.

a few seconds later, your lips were parted at the sound of banging at the door.

4. Why did you give them the name they have? Whats the in universe reason for their name?

Im gonna be honest IM BAD AT NAMING THINGS 😭😭 So I happen to choose Akari because it's a common girl's name and it sounds pretty (surely if it's a common name it won't have a weird meaning RIGHT???!!!) At first I was scared bc apparently the "aka" in akari can also mean red which like, Akari's obviously not a red girly 😂

But her name actually ended up having a beautiful meaning to it (Thank God) The "明" in her name stands for "light" or "brilliance" I believe. Coincidentally, I also have "明" in my name too. I believe it's associated with smartness (at least in chinese culture) So I believe Akari was given that name by her parents because she is the light in their life, and they want her to grow up as a brilliant person.

18. Imagine meeting your oc what would you imagine you'd say to them or do with them

It's gonna be SO messy and complicated if she knew that I created her. In all seriousness I don't think Akari would like me at all. Anyways that aside.. If things were a little simpler, I'd love to just hang out with her, play dress up and do cosplays and other fun stuffs. I could give her words of encouragement about the things that I wish I could tell myself too, but in reality I think I will just go :

She can do it because she's fast and I'm as slow as a turtle.

20. Share a random piece of trivia about the creation of your oc (scrapped idea or changes you didnt expect to make)

Initially, her vibes was a lot darker and edgier, but somehow she got softer and pinker the more I drew her.

Tbh Akari looks way cooler here, but her design feels a little messy. There were many cool ideas but nothing came out of it. In the end she's just kinda there. I originally wasn't gonna ship her with Giyuu bc I was a giyuu x shinobu shipper back then and thought they would be canon XD (I just prefer them as bros now) It doesnt help that I was so busy with school and its the pandemic, so my creative juices were little to none. But one idea that has always stayed is Akari having a good relationship with the girls, especially Mitsuri. After that I forgot about her...

Then I took a year off university, so more time to draw. I was on my way to moving on from kny, until I saw the swordsmith teaser and was like "Okay this show helped me get through pandemic, why not post some art to pay tribute at least." one art became more and suddenly I realized I wanna revisited Akari again bc omg this oc has so much wasted potential I need to fix this 😱 Guess I wont be moving on from kny soon 🤡

I thought about different breathing styles, illusion, star breathing etc. I decided that Akari is a battle seamstress character so I thought of silk breathing bc you know silk but I was like: "ok shes a seamstress who does seamstress powers?? thats it?? she needs something more specific" Eventually I settled for Camellia flowers bc I think its perfect for her in every way.

fontaine is fun and nice (environment) but with the main story im pretty slow. its not like im not interested but i feel that i need to be in a certain mood to be able to play so i can give it a proper chance. i just dont feel like im ready to fully move on from sumeru ahxksjx im also too attached to it and all of its cast to let go (not that i will tbh) just thinking about leaving them behind makes me go AAAAAAAA even tho it prob sounds silly (thats why i bring them with me at least. i main haitham but theres still slots left to fit some of the others in, no idc they dont work well together. he solos in worst case AHHAH)

fontaine is here and i still think about sumeru sm!!! meeting nahida, watching nilous dance, meeting haitham for the first time and wishing it was me he just elbowed in the head, cyno haitham and dehya banding together to rescue nahida with us, dottore and scara !!! haithams entire plan and him pretending to be corrupted, cynos appearance before azar, fighting scara for the first time---- i think about all this regularly and how awesome it was. the first three archon quests were nothing (sorry) to that and theres hope with how good sumeru was that the other chapters will be equally good so i wanna give them a chance even tho rn it feels to me that nothing can make it better for me than sumeru ajshshdj

(mostly bc this whole found family/ppl banding together to fight and becoming friends is smth i personally enjoy SO MUCH and sumeru got quite a lot of the meaning of family/bonds and stuff also bc i just love the entirety of sumeru cast (not counting dori tbh) and the environment and atmosphere itself. its the closest where im like wow i wish i lived here. going there always feels like coming home its weird to explain???)

How do you write fight scenes, keep track of movement, keep it coherent and something reader can imagine?

Fight scenes actually come fairly easily to me, even the flashy ones - I have a lot of martial arts experience, plus some experience with stunting and tricks, and then stage combat and stage falls and choreography and things of that nature for theatre. I actually thought for a while that I wanted to go into stunting professionally, but that plan was shot when my joint problems started getting worse. Either way, I know how to move.

So when it comes to writing fight scenes, I can visualize how it should look, what the characters would reasonably be able to do, what the technical skills and techniques are, how it might feel, and other details fairly easily. I can't say I have a particular strategy for this, it's just how my brain works. I just really love dynamic movement!

But when it comes to actually writing the scenes... keep it simple. Fight scenes usually aren't the time to be vivid about the setting, costumes, appearances, etc. - not unless it'll actively end up playing into the fight. Every detail you add slows down the scene that much more, so you want to focus on the details that actively play into the fight scene and not much else outside that.

However, you as the author want to know those details. Let's say you're writing a fight scene in an abandoned classroom - for the reader, "abandoned classroom" already gives a pretty clear image, and you don't need to waste time outlining all the details of the decor during the fight scene itself. It's a classroom. Desks, chairs, maybe a chalkboard, that's all the reader needs to know at first. Their mind will fill in the rest as it comes. But as an author, you need to think about the details because the characters might utilize them.

Environment is just as important as the combat itself. Fight scenes where characters just trade blows in the same technical way get dull very quickly, and that's just not how fights work. But fight scenes where the environment plays a role... maybe Character A slips on an old notebook on the floor and goes down. Maybe Character B climbs onto the students' desks to give themself the high ground. Maybe one of them grabs a blackboard eraser and blinds their opponent with chalk dust. The reader doesn't need to know these things are there until they happen (as long as it fits with the mental image of "abandoned classroom"), but you need to know they're there from the beginning because of how the characters might utilize them.

Second, while you don't want to go too introspective with a fight scene (bc again, it'll slow things down), you do want to share a bit of the characters' thoughts and feelings rather than just pure action. Again, reading about characters just trading blows back and forth gets boring. Tell us about how the character is angry or scared or even having fun, give us a reason why they're fighting.

Plus, including those emotions and thoughts gives you a bit of leeway in the action too. If the reader is only given action and movement to follow, that's a lot of pressure to put on their imagination - and your ability to describe the movements that are happening. But once you mingle in those deeper emotions, it becomes less about the fight itself and more about the characters, and the action will coast along.

This is getting long enough already, but here's an example of a recent fight scene I wrote in Let Us Prey. I've dissected it a bit: actions are in red, scene details in blue, introspection and thoughts in green:

Rick dug his fingers into the metal grate below him and pulled it from its hollow set into the floor. He pushed himself up to his feet and swung for the fences, driving the flat of the grate straight into Peacemaker’s gut. The room spun and his ears rang, either from the explosion or the fight that had followed, but he forced himself to keep moving. If he slowed down, even for a moment, he’d be dead. Because his opponent wouldn’t slow down. An elbow across the face. Another strike with the corner of the grate. A millisecond surrendered to look for the gun- where the hell was the gun? He could hardly keep his head on straight. Maybe if he’d been clearheaded, maybe if he hadn’t let his horror and disgust get in the way of his logic, maybe if he’d taken Eris’ warnings from the beginning, the fight would already be over. You give too much of your heart away, he heard Eris’ voice echo in his head as he fought to land another blow, They can’t all be your friends, you know. They’re only doing this to get their sentences reduced. Any out Waller gives them- they’ll take it.  Christopher’s foot shot out, one heavy boot colliding with the open wound in his stomach. The world went white with pain for a moment, and Rick staggered back until he hit a low shelf behind him. The new bruises only mingled with a thousand other aches. He was falling behind. He had to turn the tides somehow.   Hey, I’ve got the embodiment of conflict sleeping in my bed every night, he’d responded then, only half-joking, I think I can handle a couple inmates. It was still true, he thought, but now the sound of his own pride made him wince. He shouldn’t have gotten so comfortable. The fight dragged on in more of the same stasis. He wasn’t winning and he wasn’t losing- at least not yet. Rick was moving on autopilot alone, years of training pushing his body forward even when his mind kept aimlessly spinning. Adrenaline coursed in and overwhelmed the pain. He caught sight of the gun a few times, always just out of reach.  Peacemaker found a grip around his body and tossed him against the wall. The world flipped, and something shattered under his back. Water and porcelain rained down on him. His fingers fumbled for something, anything- there, a pipe, long and old and sturdy. 

As you can see, the actual action doesn't account for much of the scene at all. Most of it is Rick's thoughts and perspective on the fight, and even some memories: those space out the scene so it doesn't feel too abrupt, and it adds to the idea that he's concussed and is finding it hard to focus.

Now try only reading the red words. It still works as a fight scene, and there's still a good amount of detail just because of how my writing style is, but you miss a lot of the energy and intent behind the fight. Once you add those details, the scene just feels a lot deeper and more meaningful (at least in my eyes).

so. ok. say everyone is camping, and suddenly it starts raining. it ends up raining hard enough that the tents floors start leaking (it happens >.>) and they have to ditch them and run into a nearby cave or overhang or something to try and stay dry

bc this is omo, Character A has to pee rly fuckin bad (maybe they were about to when the rain started) but its pouring and if they go out to pee they’ll be SOAKED. meanwhile the cave is shallow enough that there’s nowhere private enough to pee. Consequentially, they decide to try and hold it until the rain lets up

They’re doing good at first. The attention is off them, everyone focused on conversation. As long as they chime in every now and then, their discomfort flies under the radar. Eventually, though, it becomes visible enough that character B asks them if somethings wrong. They say that they’re just cold and tired, and frustrated with being stuck there, which is all true. B sympathetically hands them a blanket, which allows them to hold themself/fidget a bit more without being noticeable

eventually, the urge gets so bad that they start leaking. They’re panicking now, having no idea how to get out of this situation without humiliating themself, and tears start to prick their eyes. they desperately hold them back, but it must show on their face because B asks again if they’re alright, more concerned this time.

It draws the attention of the rest of the group, and they freeze under the stares of everyone, mumbling that they just want to go home. their concerned friends watch as B pats them on the back and assures them that they’ll go once the rain lets up. They nod, but then gasp as they leak again. Its obvious something more is going on, and B is suspicious, pushing them further.

They glance around at everyone, face burning in humiliation, but their bladder is so full and hurts so bad and they cant take it anymore. They burst out that they have to pee so bad, that they cannot wait, and their friends eyes widen as they all exchange concerned glances

(Lmfao this is getting very long but im havin fun)

B bites their lip and looks around, trying to think of some solution before reluctantly telling them that they think going in the back of the cave is the only option, and they’ll all try their best to not look and give A some privacy

A, desperate and out of options, sniffles and agrees. B grabs their hand and pulls them up, but they freeze on the spot. they jam their other hand tighter between their legs and whine, trying not to lose control right then and there. B curses as they realize just how urgent it is, and slow down, trying to coax A gently to keep going. A manages a step, maybe two, away from the rest of the group, before their bladder gives up

It starts as a small but steady stream that has them gasping and letting go of A to jam both hands between their legs. It’s too late, though, and the stream quickly crescendos into a waterfall, soaking their pants completely and puddling at their feet. Legs like jelly, they sink to their knees and hold back a sob as they let the mess happen

B and the rest of their friends watch in silent shock until they’re done, left sniffling in their puddle. Finally, B breaks the silence, but all they can offer is an awkward ‘shit... you should have just said something sooner’

A doesnt respond, just chokes back another sob and swipes their sleeve across their face, trying to clean it off but mostly succeeding in just making themself messier. The pee is cooling on their pants in the already chilly cabe, leaving them shivering and utterly miserable. Their friends try their best to offer comfort and assurances that no one is judging, and it helps some

B helps A up and the group all shift further away from the puddle. B settles A down in the circle and starts to mention getting them some dry clothes when the horrible realization hits everyone. When the tents flooded, their clothes got wet too, leaving A with nothing to change into. They just have to sit here, shivering and soaked in their own pee.

At this, A just cant hold back the tears anymore. They’re already as humiliated as they can possibly get, and they dont care. They burst into loud sobs, and everyone exchanges panicked looks as they stare, unsure what to say or do. B, floundering, sits down beside them and puts a hand on A’s back in an attempt to be soothing.

To B’s surprise, A just throws themself at B, sobbing into B’s chest and clinging onto them tightly. B is taken aback, and shifts in discomfort as they feel A’s soaked pants rub up against them, but they dont pull away. They hug A tightly, rubbing their back and shushing them.

After a moment of the awkward position, they try to adjust themself and A more comfortably. A presses closer to them, ending up practically in B’s lap, and B grimaces at the feeling of wetness seeping through their own clothes. They resign themself to it though, telling themself they’re camping anyway, sitting on the dirty floor of a random cave. comforting A is more important than staying clean.

They hold onto A, rocking them and letting them cry until they’re reduced to quiet hiccups. The cave is quiet, save for the sound of the rain and the others trying to carry on an awkward conversation in a flimsy attempt at privacy.

A is shivering hard now, since, again, its cold and rainy and gross and now they’re stuck in soaking wet pants. They’re freezing, and fucking miserable. B frowns in concern and holds them closer, attempting to warm them up with the shared body heat. They ask others to offer whatever dry-ish blankets they’d salvaged from the tent before making a run for it, and everyone cocoons them as much as possible.

And thats how they spend the next while, huddled together as the group tries to keep them warm and cheer them up, telling stories and talking and doing whatever to try to distract everybody from the situation.

Eventually, the rain slows to a light drizzle. they all run out and pack up the tents and everything else as quickly as possible, shoving it all back into the car and getting the FUCK home. once they’re there, they get A a hot bath and some clean clothes, and all have a movie night or whatever kind of night they wanna have idk lol. They all reassure A that its ok and they dont have to be embarrassed, and A finally starts to feel better yayyy happy ending :)

ok so!!!! i have. so many thoughts about penacony. aventurine the man you are...... his obsession with facades and masks... his future self shit talking him.... 2.1 truly delivered. his dynamic with ratio is also so interesting.... the contrasts... aven not taking care of himself at all vs ratio the self care king........

there's so much unexplored potential for a friendship between acheron and aven... their similarities as people who lost everything ... how acheron works in the shadows and aventurine flaunts himself yet acheron is much more willing to be... openly vulnerable about her past? as compared to aven..... i care them both dearly anyway!!! i have many thoughts on 2.2 but i don't want to intrude or make this too long ajshldfkjasdjf but yes!!!! im having a good time so far (though i'm kinda fed up with the sunday boss fight) and !!!! looking forward to meeting aven again (myriad celestia trailer!) + seeing what other adventures the astral express goes on...

aventurine is just such a fun guy. i become attached to characters who try to sell a specific image of themselves pretty much immediately, because the gradual detachment from their own identity and struggle to properly connect with others is always a delight to see. and aven does it so well! he's completely out of touch with himself - kakavasha and aventurine are practically different people by now.

i care deeply about depictions of cptsd in media, particularly when they acknowledge that it really isnt just depression + anxiety + flashback induced panic attacks in a spot the person you ship them with can conveniently find them in and calm them down. such a big part of it is the way it can completely fuck up your self-concept and worldview cuz yknow. your brain structure is altered. it's the key factor in that disconnect that i just talked about. and that constant sense of impending doom and emptiness are a part of that, which often leads to stupidly reckless behavior. i don't even need to bring up aven's whole gambling thing here, do i?

(also please do note that, as i wrote this bit, welt was even further on the forefront of my mind than he usually is. because of course he would be)

him and ratio are also a fun match, because ratio does not care for the way aventurine flaunts himself (to pretend he has his shit together) in the slightest. he'd do a good job at getting aven to just... slow down, and wouldn't allow their relationship to develop into something unhealthy either.

(its one of the reasons i like avenpaz + ratio, bc aven and topaz on their own would most certainly enable each other's bad habits. they have a bit too much in common in that regard.)

AND ACHERON. ACHERON...

miss raiden bosenmori mei i love you so damn much. she does the "oh, i'm doomed? my struggle was meaningless? well if nothing matters then i will do what i want" thing so well, and every dynamic she has with the other characters is fascinating to me.

one really big thing to consider is that, since acheron's whole backstory is essentially the bad ending of honkai impact 3rd, she's already seen all of this dreamscape shit. she's been living in the waking world for a long time now. in the quest "when the sacred ginmill closes," her and welt talk about kevin kaslana, someone who used his last resort to try and save humanity from the uphill battle against the honkai and plunge all of humanity into a dreamscape (etc), robbing it of its future.

a big part of hi3 is the direness of the situation, and the way people push themselves to go further and further in hopes of reaching this unattainable peace. it's an absolutely sisyphian task. and acheron let go - she defeated her version of kevin (why would you name him that) and let her homeworld be enveloped by the nihility.

so acheron's been there. she lost the people she loved, struggled against a meaningless end and was changed so irreversibly that she's not even human anymore. and there's a lot of potential for her to properly guide aventurine out of the nihility (i mean that's kind of her job?) and onto a path that's a lot more meaningful to him.

also, i'm saving a lot of my acheron thoughts for when i actually finish hi3, but there's a few dynamics that i could pick apart and think about forever. my favorites being aventurine and his whole (gestures at this post) stuff, black swan as someone whose whole being consists of memories while acheron perpetually erases them, welt as someone who shares the same experiences and black hole related powers, and firefly, who exists in the moment because she can't dream in the first place, and chooses to fight against the inevitable without being afraid of it.

...also also also i fucking love black holes and i love how it's connected to sun imagery and i think the idea of icarus reaching the sun only to discover a hopeless abyss beyond it is my favorite hsr symbolism thing ever. black holes are like THE thing to show hopelessness and meaninglessness and emptiness and a point of no return, because they devour everything and leave nothing. we don't truly know what lies within a black hole!! we might never find out!!! there are so many suns out there that will end up as black holes but we can appreciate their beauty nonetheless, can't we??? ive never seen a character with black hole (or sun) imagery that didn't fuck severely. a person who will figuratively consume you in your entirety if you get too close. they can't even help it. it gets me every single fucking time. can you guys tell that interstellar changed my brain chemistry when i first watched it as a kid. i need to punch a wall

two film essay posts in less than 24 hrs by ro, someone needs to sedate me or something

( sort of spoilers for emma (2020) under the cut , but nothing explicit , really )

!!! disclaimer i think to really fw regency-ish movies, kind of inherently calls for being into things like their original source material. and trust!! i know its not for everyone!!!

personally, i'm actually a big fan of reading those old and classical kind of books. as in, i have a full, clothbound, BOX SET, of jane austen's novels (emma being one of them). my literature teacher recommended me to read pride and prejudice ONCE and i've been hooked ever since.

yknow people joke that back then that it was all "oh my god you can't show your ankles!!!" and yeah, that's pretty much what it's like when you get down to reading novels from that time 😭 but that's what makes it so entertaining for me! the bridgerton series (which i also really like by association) is an easy example of this. i once saw someone say bridgerton plays out like a kdrama and YES!! that's the level of yearning and pining and slow burn i feed off of

upfront, i liked the movie–even from when its first trailer came out–because its aesthetics visually were just so nice. like yes!!! pastels!! pretty flowers!!! hats with feathers!! tea parties!!! big poofy dresses!!! (and anya taylor joy)

but it was when i watched it for a second time, i found a lot of why i like this specific adaptation of emma is because i think it really got across the vibe of jane austen's writing–especially the humor.

ok now stay with me: i'm not saying you have to read the whole original novel to get it, bc basically i would summarize the reason why the humor is so dry (when usually you would think this rich and old-fashioned vibe of a story should be much more over-the-top and dramatic) is because jane austen was always trying to make fun of all the social constructs of her time. especially for women! (heavy on how her works were ones of satire!)

like it all plays out so bare-bones that you just can't ignore how ridiculous everything sounds, which is what austen felt about all the rules and expectations emma and the other characters were trying to uphold the whole story. i also find that kind of humor from the movie very charming in a simple way, too.

the whole vibe of watching the movie and its characters is very much unserious, and it's a personal favorite in that watching it and listening to the soundtrack makes me feel ok to wallow in my emotions like the characters do. it's very cathardic in that way to me. but yeah by no means is it very action-packed or even conventionally "dramatic", so i get how it can wind up boring.

the character development of emma is always so interesting to me though. it's subtle, especially on the first watch, but it always warms my heart when she goes from thinking she's got everything figured out, to seeing the value of true friendship in harriet and even mrs. bates (MY FAV CHARACTER I CANNOT LIE SHE'S SO FUNNY), and that making her more open to questioning her and her life more, including not being as perfect as she once thought she was.

and that's really why we get that payoff with her and knightley, because he's known her all this time but when she finally recognizes her imperfections and embraces them, that newly found self-awareness us what pushes him over the edge in love. then we get that BEAUTIFUL confession scene under the tree. 🤭🌳

it very much fits the genre of a "romantic" movie, in that it romanticizes everything. but not to the point where it lets you forget what everyone's wants were, and that there were genuine struggles grappling with all those societal rules at the same time.

bc at the end of the day those rules were efforts meant to promote values that could hopefully lead a life of morality, responsibility/duty, and respect to others and yourself (arguably there are rules we face today that try to promote the same things, but they just look much different than rules about showing your ankles lol). i think in emma it's interesting to see just how each character tries to navigate those rules to get what they want out of life from them, and i think it's just a very beautifully-made film overall as well.

ok imagine that toji and reader are hosting some sort of cookout or bbq or whatever. theres music playing, they invited a few of their friends and family and theyre just having a fun time. there are kids running around, ppl dancing, drinking, eating the whole shabang.

however, the reader is alone in the upstairs bathroom taking her third pregnancy test of the evening bc shes been having symptoms all week but she hasnt told toji. its not like she's upset - if anything shes overjoyed but she wants to make sure she is actually pregnant before she tells him. she doesnt know how he will react bc he already has baby megumi so maybe he wont want another kid but shes not like stressed over it, uno? she waits 2 minutes after peeing on the stick and its just suspense. like the music from downstairs is thumping, her heart is racing and the only thing homegirl can focus on is the slow drip of the faucet as she bounces her leg in anticipation. and once again the test is positive and atp shes crying tears of joy.

in the heat of the moment (idk how to say it), she grabs the tests and runs downstairs squeezing past guests, through to the backyard where more ppl are. theres tears streaming down her face, shes looking for her bf and when she spots him sitting at a table talking w his friends, she literally jumps toji, clutching the tests as she sobs.

he obv didnt notice what shes holding so he's like "sum wrong, kid?" and hes lowkey worried (ppl are looking over atp like why tf is this bitch crying). she just shows him the tests and she says "im pregnant toji, im pregnant omg, look😭" and when he sees the positive sign on the tests, he grabs her by the waist and spins her and ppl are cheering and stuff.

for the rest of the night the news spreads to all the guests and ppl are congratulating the couple as they leave one by one. there are still a few ppl around but most have left. toji and reader are still outside, her in his lap and its breezy outside and the moon is fully out now, casting soft moonlight over their features. hes saying sweet nothings into her ear as he holds her tight and they're making idle conversation abt what they're gonna do and what they're bby is gonna be like. stuff like "ilysm pretty girl. im so fucking happy, u know that?" or "i hope they have ur eyes, toji" and theyre both just watching toddler megumi inside watching tv (or whatever toddlers do idk) and theyre just so happy abt what the future holds for em 🤭🤷‍♀️

I'm hoping we get a pretty good insight into what Jack has been doing for the last year. I fucking love that they reunite exactly one year after their previous meeting ugh.
