a limitless source
My submission for Week 3 of Tea’s SuoSaku Monsterfucking Month. For the prompts Vampire/Flex, it’s another Xianxia AU but modern and with jiangshi! Suo. While not exactly the traditional western vampire that feeds off of blood, jiāngshī feed off of a person’s qì (or energy) :D👍.
Extras (concept & lore)
First of all, yes, this is a reference to Suo’s costume for the WindBre Event in Kofu Shopping Street Halloween Festival. It was never going to be anything else 😭 but I added spice (read: lore) to the mix with Sakura’s design to make it more interesting. This piece was originally going to be spicier with a different pose, but I didn’t like the anatomy on that one.
concept:
Tumblr media
For this AU, a person’s energy can be visible to the eyes of yaoguai and the appearance of the energy is similar to that of kintsugi (big thanks to @psychicwavementality for the idea). The more potent one’s (yang) energy is, the more it will attract stronger creatures. Sakura is one of the rare people who makes a lot of excess yang energy that Suo could probably live off of for years without draining the former too much.
Also while researching for references, I found that the fulu inscripted on Suo’s talisman from the official art is just “Bofurin ~ Halloween”. Incredibly cheeky of whoever drew the design and approved of it and also very fitting of Suo’s character.

This is posted alongside Week 2 if you haven’t seen it yet.

u know what would be a cool genshin fic idea? isekai/transmigrated reader, but instead of appearing within the general timeline, you come into the genshin world 500 years prior to the start of the storyline in khaenri'ah.
honestly it could be either a little before the cataclysm, giving enough time to delve into some relationship building + explore some world building with characters like dainsleif, traveller's sibling (which would probably be lumine bc i actually do like her as abyss sibling & aether as traveller), and npcs like halfdan (still crying over him to this day ;w;) and possibly the khaenri'ahn royal guards (assuming you either join them or have a good enough relationship with them), OR it could be you appear during the crisis, completely and utterly lost as to why you were brought amidst the chaos and bloodshed as you watch everything you barely knew about this nation crumble before your very eyes.
either route will still result in reader's existential crises and constant "why am i here? just to suffer?" monologues because really, who would be fine after going through that after coming from /our/ world? and not to mention you've had to endure the next 500 years wandering with no real set path because you don't know this world— this era of teyvat or of genshin. you're merely stuck, unable to die, and forced to live a life of uncertainty with no clear direction for you to go to.
despite it all, you've at least been able to see dain during this course. while your meetings pass far too quickly for your lonesome, and his solemn demeanour is something you're yet to be accustomed to after having been with him before the fall of khaenri'ah (assuming it's the route where you appear before the cataclysm), you're glad to see a familiar face every now and then. after the messy departure with the lumine who left for the abyss order, you've come to appreciate his quiet presence more and more each time.
and then you decide it might be time to settle. you soon realise it's difficult to do so when your lifespan has become far more than that of a human's — of a mortal's — and so you find yourself becoming used to staying in one place for a few years before setting off for the next. rinse and repeat. over and over. it's come to a point where you've witnessed the nations undergo various changes each time you visit. you know change is inevitable, and yet your heart stings each time you witness it; a testament to how the world is ever-changing, yet you're stuck in place as a bystander.
one thing you're grateful for, however, are the bonds you've established amid your back-and-forth over the centuries. from archons like zhongli and venti to long-life beings such as neuvillette and the adepti to regular mortals who have showed you kindness as if one of their own... you've grown to cherish those memories, often reminiscing them when the nights get too long and surroundings too quiet. it was difficult at first, and still is, but you've become used to the inevitable change and the passing of those you once knew.
and after 500 years, you find yourself face-to-face with one you haven't seen since before you appeared in this world; the protagonist of this world, and the one you eventually join in hopes of finally finding a means to an end, aether.
little side notes/extras:
from /our/ world, you would probably know the storyline from up to around current (5.0) or maybe a little after the fontaine aq conclusion. it gives a lot to work with, but you definitely won't remember a lot of the lore after so long other than some main events, especially since most of your knowledge is pretty irrelevant for the next 500 years,,,
i think it would be cool if you had an inteyvat on your person as a little homage of khaenri'ah, which may or may not invoke some opinions from certain characters (*cough* aether immediately being reminded of lumine and having an existential crisis *cough*)
post-cataclysm you would go through a, uhm, long phase of helplessness, wondering why you were even brought to this world so far back if you couldn't even make any contributions. it does eventually morph into a resolution to do what you can to help those you come across if it's within your capabilities, but the nightmares and helplessness come back every now and then as a reminder for what you can't do :D yippee :D
honestly i'm on the fence whether you would have a vision or some other type of abilities (think on the similar lines of aether/lumine's and dain's), but i think having some type of purification mechanic would be a must in your arsenal !! would definitely lead to some moments between you and characters like dain or zhongli who suffer from the erosion as you give them a slight reprieve from what rages within and corrodes them
a little self indulgent, but i'd like to think your first /proper/ meeting with zhongli happens during a lantern rite festival, wherein you're admiring the lanterns in the sky after making a wish of your own and he comes up from behind with "they're beautiful, wouldn't you say so?" and !!
also as for love interests, as much as i would love for human/mortal characters, a part of me feels like this story would be better suited for the immortal/long-life characters as love interests?? idk i feel like considering that 500 years is, well, a long time, the bonds you would have with them compared to characters like, say, alhaitham or diluc would be way too different ?? though i would definitely still add them as love interest bc i am a sucker for so many of the human characters ;w; it would also add to the angst and hurt/comfort ahahha...
anyway thank you for reading this massive brain dump of a fic bc i absolutely would put this as a long term project, and if u made it this far then i would like to say that dain solos—

I know I've been gone forever but I'm back and working on a forced proximity, political allies to lovers, arranged marriage, azriel x CoN reader fic that might grace your dashboard in the coming days...
sneak peak below
The narrow streets of Hewn City are rife with transgression; I hear the echo of it in the lurid shouts from the merchants and patrons. As they beg, barter and brawl in the slums in the rotten heart of the city. The fetor of petrichor and decay linger in the air. So putrid and palpable I can taste it; even through the bouquets of vervain and bitter almonds that shade the wheelhouse in their noxious musk. Throngs of beggar children chase the carriage as it rolls turbulently through the pools of waste upon the wet, cobbled stone. Though, I only catch fleeting glimpses of them each time the cruel, seraphic light cuts through the blanket of the dark inside the small carriage.  As I pass through the Streets of Silk, I hear the bawdy rhymes of the fallen women as they call out into the night like a siren song; all sultry-eyed and dressed in lace that billows in the wretched breeze like the tendrils of a monstrous chimera. Fated to lure wayward sailors to their watery tombs.   It is then that panels of the carriage yawn open to reveal a tavern. The building stands as one of the last unsanctioned pleasure halls in the city; its weary slate facade is cut from the same dark stone as the mountain that oppresses the city and the neglected roof tiles gleam in the pallid silver faelights, like moonlight on the murky-green depths of the Sidra. Above it's dark mahogany door, I observe the pillory that bears the establishment's name.  The Jade Pearl. Painted in varying gaudy shades of green and gold. The pleasure hall on the outer banks of the mountain city is alive with sordid activity. The whores in their fine silks twirl and dance in merry rings like water nymphs, and the serving girls fill up the cups of patrons with a sly smile. The high-arching melody of lyres cuts through the cacophony of carnal sounds; officious laughter, vulgar curses and the honeyed words, whispered into the skin of wind-beaten sailors and fat merchants.  Here, patrons and prostitutes alike, subject to their most base desires.  I adjust the hood that veils my face and retreat into the darkest parts of the tavern, nestled somewhere near the open hearth.  “Can I help you, mistress?”  I look up from my seat, across the emerald painted surface to the wraith standing before me. She’s a slender looking creature, with pale blue eyes that look almost silver in the dying light of the hearth. Her long, white hair is braided over her shoulder like the tendril of some mythical siren.  Dangerous and inviting.  “A drink and a warm meal perhaps,” She purrs, her voice low and sultry as she looks at me with those pale eyes, “or maybe you desire some company tonight?” She’s dressed in the gauzy, silk robes of a whore. The garment flows like water over the curve of her hip and with a deep slit in its middle that exposes the graceful swell of her breasts beneath. And through her guise of beauty and seduction, I see the chains that bind her. “A drink would be nice,” I say, sliding a gold coin across the polished surface of the table, “If it’s not too much trouble.” “It is not trouble at all, mistress- but this far too much coin.” The wraith begins to untether the cracked leather coin purse from her hip. She begins to exchange the gold for smaller coins of silver and bronze, counting them in her open palm.  “You should keep it -- I’ve no use for it anyway.” I say, nodding towards the coin in her hand. The wraith shakes her head and tries to protest but a call from the brutish looking owner, whose name I know to be Arik, draws the girl's attention away.  She voices her gratitude again before leaving me to my pitcher of ale.  The liquid is of a deep carnelian color that glimmers like burnished bronze in the dying light of the hearth. It is cloyingly sweet and viscous like honey and flavored with moonflowers and jasmine.  A voice, thick with mirth and malice, beckons my attention.

Maybe it's because I was exposed to DAI directly before this but the first encounter with the Dalish is startlingly light
From 'they abandon their spare mages, look down on city elves, and rejected Solas for being an outsider' to 'hey man how's it going'
And this is the clan of Zathrian Thee Human Tormentor mind you

There's something with the fact that it was decided within a group that Jimmy would be the one to win Real Life, then everyone in that group died before anyone outside did, and Grian — who decided Jimmy should win — was the one who actually died first, that I don't think has been explored enough

not to dive back into my apparently controversial video game opinions but the "they probably left out nigh all references to botw to not confuse new players" argument for totk really confuses me in turn bc …
if an overgrown non functioning botw shrine confuses you so much you cant keep playing how are you ever getting through any video game?? if you are not familiar with botw its just part of the environment for you, a fallen apart titan or a half collapsed shrine of life with a cave now leading somewhere else shouldnt completely confuse you-
but mainly ... this is (supposedly................) a direct sequel to botw, a literal second part, if you dont play the first one and just get into the second one you cant blame it on anyone but yourself for not understanding some things? like if totk actually built on what botw set up and you get into totk without having played the first one you really have no right to be angry about being confused by some things its like if you start watching a series with the second season instead of the first one, your own darn fault if you dont get it (also theres plenty of people who summarize video games for you so you could also jsut watch one of those if you really really dont want to play the first one)
if this is really the reason nintendy forcibly bent everything in totk to not dare have a proper connection to botw then ... im sorry but why the heck did you call it a sequel then, if you want to have a standalone game then make a standalone game, and if you want to reuse the map and models so badly then just say its some paralel universe or something, you have literally done that before!!

I really like the idea of the power imbalance that could come from a victim who can't use the respawn machine; especially if everyone else on the base can. The isolation that comes with being a new member of the team that already has years of chemistry, knowing that assassins don't exactly get an HR for interpersonal conflicts on the job site, anyway. You're more vulnerable, socially and physically. If a Pyro decides to light you up, you're permanently dead. Even if you manage to kill someone, they'll just come back a few minutes later.
Maybe Medic or Engineer saying it will only take a week or two until your respawn is available (and "delaying" it more and more, simply because it's funny to watch). Pauling calling you and saying they're not planning to give you respawn until you manage a higher killstreak.
Everyone in the base is a sadist. They probably don't even like you, let alone feel deeper emotions when they all nearly kill you during off hours.
It's probably only after months of constant near misses that one of the members starts to think of just how far they could take your desire to stay alive. Your respawns still not up, so you're not in a position to say no...
OR, for your consideration: someone on the other team realizing you don't have a respawn because there isn't a version of you on their team. Spy is probably the first to pick up on this (maybe Medic is a close second) since keeping a level head and multitasking is his job description. He knows you're vulnerable. And then it just becomes fun to try to single you out every round.
