Leviathan Headcanons (pathetic boyfailure </3 )
Starting out strong, Left handed (derogatory)
Extremely picky eater, can go weeks eating only one food and then have a heavy disgust for the same food a few days after.
He forgets to throw out socks with holes in them, so sometimes he’ll just walk around with socks that are barely holding on by a thread.
Not only does he have a forked tongue, but he can also touch his nose with his tongue (lowkey insecure about his tongue even tho it’s like the hottest thing ever)
On the same note of his tongue, it damn near has a mind of its own.
Sometimes it just hangs out his mouth when he’s hyper focused on something and you’ll have to remind him to put it back in before it dries out.
Levi can speak to aquatic animals, none of his brothers believes him when he says it though.
And with that, he refuses to eat seafood because he claims he, “can still hear them crying and pleading for their lives”.
Levi’s favorite anime is One Piece, he loves the aquatic theme and the bond that the strawhats have.
Hates getting his hair cut with a passion, he literally won’t get it cut until it’s long enough to block his vision and effect his gaming/anime watching.
Arguably sleeps wilder than Mammon, which is one of the reasons he prefers to sleep in a bathtub rather than a bed.
Idk why but I feel it in my bones that bro is Gender-fluid, it just feels right..
Giant Crybaby, will burst into tears over the tiniest most minuscule thing ever (he just like me frl)

hi here’s a soft zoro thought that has been occupying my mind for a WHILE.
you and the strawhats on a mission attending a ball. you need to get very important documents from the man hosting it, and its your mission to seduce him to make him take you to his study to show you the location of the papers.
robin playing in the orchestra keeping an eye out, luffy and usopp as service staff, nami as a maid, sanji in the kitchen.
you’re disguised as a bachelorette attending the ball, along with zoro, who was put there to protect you.
he looks so different.. he showered and cleaned up so nicely.. hair pushed back with strands framing his face so beautifully. high waisted suit trousers, accompanied by a loose blouse tucked into it with the buttons half buttoned because he claims he “couldn’t breathe properly”. clean and shiny earrings sparkling and reflecting on his face that’s decorated so prettily by his scar. and is that… cologne you can smell on him?
“.. robin helped me pick it out..” he mumbles when he noticed you sniffing. you nod. you both standing right outside the mansion ready to go in.
you find the man you need to get close to, and start talking to him. zoro scoffs, it’s rather strange seeing you like this.. hair done and laid so beautiful, showing your back like this.. in that dress.. and fanning yourself so modestly with that hand fan. this poor guy is really falling for it. who can blame him? that corset really does a number on you, and your tits spilling out like that.. jesus.
but the man gets rather weird, touching you where you’re uncomfortable being touched. not enough for you to say something, but enough for you to understand his intentions. just when you clear your throat to say something you hear a voice interrupt you two.
“may i steal this lady for a dance?”
you blink, completely in awe of how well zoro adjusts himself in this role. is he really bowing in front of you? his eye so.. soft, eyebrows raised as if your answer is not crystal clear. his hand extended for you to put yours in, and you eagerly oblige, bowing slightly to the man and saying goodbye as zoro leads you to the dance floor.
“zoro… us and dancing? we’re gonna blow our cov-“”brook showed me a thing or two… don’t worry”
you sigh, your chest rising with your breath as you try to get some air despite the chest prison sitting so snug on your body. if you wouldn’t have closed your eyes you would see zoro glancing down just to immediately revert his gaze.
“you know.. you didn’t have to come to my rescue, i was fine on my own” you whisper as he rest his hand on your back, a bit shaky and unsure still.
“i’m here to keep you safe, just following orders..” he mumbles.
“well i was getting ready to stomp my heel into his foot if he tried something..”
zoro chuckles, looking back at the man who’s so obviously jealous. he’s glaring holes into zoro’s face, but that doesn’t stop the swordsman from grinning ear to ear. the hand on your back pressing you harder against him as he kept eye contact with the man. he whispers in your ear.
“atta girl.”

One Piece 1131
It's finally here after the 2 week break!
I'm glad we begin right where we left off, with Luffy and Loki finally having a proper interaction! This instantly made me laugh, Luffy is a certified yapper. His true power really is responding to the most serious and broody of intimidating figures with his silly guy ADHD and making fools out of these try-hards by annoying them. He really is a walking cartoon! I just knew in my heart, turning the page, Loki would cut him off by telling him to shut-up already. This is a classic bit and I live for it.
This also instantly kinda makes Loki more fun of a character to me lmao. Being presented with a scary guy only to immediately kinda make fun of him is Oda's expertise. Nobody is immune to being laughed at a bit, and it does instantly make Loki more charming.
He soon confirms what fans have been theorizing since Water 7; that the Yggdrasil-style-tree that encompasses Elbaf is the Treasure Tree Adam! Nice to finally know for sure, it'll be interesting for the Sunny in a sense to have returned to its "birthplace".
Also interesting how he introduces himself as the "pride of Elbaf's strength" when in the last chapter we learn of him as the "shame of Elbaf". Is it his own ego? Trying to twist the way his people see him? Is this him being a liar similar to Usopp, exaggerating who he is? Or is it his own delusions? It's an interesting contrast, I wonder what the language used here is in the original Japanese.
Loki is also, well... extremely Luffy-like in some ways actually. Being introduced as a "sun god", getting new people's names wrong, and as we'll see later, befriending wild beastly animals... This is an extremely interesting parallel. It seems to me they're already sides of the same coin, and I am soooo intrigued by it going forward.
It seems Loki has really met his match, and I doubt he expected someone like that to show up. Luffy responds to the beasts with nostalgia instead of fear, I wonder how that make the "accursed prince" feel...
Interestingly enough, Loki seems to have a sort of cult or following of human-sized people dedicated to him! They call him master and listen to his commands... maybe they're people who really see him as the Sun God?
Luffy immediately tames the beasts, like he did back during the timeskip! Of course, once he hears Loki insulting Shanks, his good mood seems to go away.
Loki also pulls a "I'm just joking bro, I'm just a silly guy c'moooon, you wouldn't punch a guy tied to a tree would ya? A birthday boy?" when he realized Luffy is actually pretty powerful. Good 'ol Schrodinger's douchebag. He does showcase a lot of duality, acting all mighty and smug towards "puny humans", but then his facade breaks a few times, he twists his reputation and claims he's just joking etc, it does fit the idea of a "trickster" a lot, considering his mythological basis. I'm still struggling to grasp his true personality and goals, and while he does speak the way you'd a expect a villain would... he kind of doesn't feel like he's going to be the main obstacle of the arc to me, and I can't truly explain why.
He also, interestingly, seems to have a negative bounty!? If I read that right, at least. Perhaps the government's way of saying "we don't want him, if you bring him in YOU'LL have to pay us to deal with him" or something??? We'll see if it's indeed a minus or not, it is described as a "special bounty".
Back to the Strawhats on the bridge, Gerd, Goldberg and Rodo seem to be rushing out with the Sunny as fast as possible. I'm assuming they're trying to get to where Harjudin is and explain the situation to him, considering that the ship belongs to their crew's grand fleet commanders. These two are probably mad as hell at Rodo lol. I can't tell if they're chasing him angrily here or what, haha.
Despite Usopp's insistence (and him being correct as always) the group still decides to run away from these giants. Oh Usopp, if only they listened to you, this debacle would be over much quicker. As per usual.
Speaking of Harjudin (and the one missing member of his crew, Stansen), here they are! They're in the same area actually, going for a hunt so they can prepare a feast for the Strawhats! That's kinda sweet, I wonder how the reunion of all separated groups so far will happen.
I wonder if it'll end up going to disaster because of Luffy accidentally freeing Loki or something. Loki did try to convince Luffy to find the key to his seastone chains earlier, but Luffy seemed to kinda ignore him. I wonder if Luffy will end up actually being manipulated, especially after Loki insulted Shanks and pissed him off. Then again, Luffy not only forgives easily, but he is also convinced easily, so who knows!
Back to the giants' ship...... oooooh my god. I think I almost cried. My heart expanded in size seeing this alone, you have no idea how happy I am. She's back. Our girl cut her hair so Saul will recognize her....shut up. Shut UP. That's so sweet, I think I am going to explode. Welcome back bangs Robin I missed you so much. This better be permanent!!!
In which Franky is literally me. I knew it before they confirmed it, it really is about meeting Saul........ I'm going to explode.
But uuuh, bad news. Saul might.... not be in good health? Did he get injured? What does this mean. I swear to god, if something happens to him before Robin gets to see him......... Please god tell me this is going to just be a bit or something, oh god. Ending the chapter here, huh? Straight up evil!!!!
Anyway, I am soooo looking forward the next chapter. I am still... on the fence about Loki being the main Bad Guy. He clearly thinks of himself as a grand destructive force, yes, and looks down upon "puny humans" and the such, sure, and even contemplates about killing Luffy after he is freed if need be, but... I'm just so suspicious of the way he's introduced. Maybe he'll be more of a morally gray anti-hero, or a temporary antagonist. Maybe I'm wrong and he'll indeed be the next pure-evil Doflamingo type threat. But maybe he could even be a "redeemable" Bellamy type character instead. I have no clue, it's way too early to tell. But just seeing the way Luffy just kinda chills with him in some of the panels in this chapter.... I'm kinda hoping it's the latter, they have a charming dynamic. They're already so similar, surely there's more to Loki's story.
After all, this is the guy that was infatuated with a lovable character we know dearly as the audience, Lola, to the point of denying to marry her identical sister. That tells me there's more to this guy than meets the eye. Am I reading too much into it? I could be completely off the mark, but we'll see!

A book by its cover (Usopp x male!punk!reader)
This picture inspired me BIG time. Also I love that people are finally realizing how nice punks are🦦🧡 It may be a bit long but like not that long its aight I hope you like it
There are no warnings its just fluff🐥
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Black leather jacket with spikes, badges and whatnot. Spiky h/c hair piercings and tattoos all this with black ripped jeans with again different badges and other things on it and black combat boots. Usopp thought this looked quite scary. He looked quite scary. Well ok it looked badass not to mention the guy was handsome... but anyhow he looked like he was from a dark world which Usopp had no intention of entering
The strawhats docked on an island for supplies maybe a little rest and to reset the log pose they had about 1 maybe 1 and a half days. Robin, Nami and Sanji went shopping the girls for clothes Sanji to carry their bags and to buy food. Zoro went to drink beer and take a nap and Luffy went with him claiming he wants to eat (as always). Brook and Jinbe just wanted to look around town. That left Franky, Usopp and Chopper who wanted to go look for supplies for the ship or Usopps bombs and other things.
Thats where they saw him. The guy who sold every kind of parts for ships, to painting supplies, gases and more. He was a tall dude around 6'6 with h/l, h/c hair which was in spikes (or not you decide if it wasn't just ignore it), he had kind e/c eyes and greeted them with a friendly smile. Franky smiled back and got to business right away.
"Hey guys what can I help you with?" Asked the guy in a friendly tone. "We need some supplies for a ship" said Franky cautiously not to mention that they are pirates. "Oh you guys are the Pirates that just docked, ok what kind of parts do you need?" Said the s/c male. Franky, Usopp and Chopper stood there a bit baffled. Even after the guy knew they were pirates the kind smile didn't leave the strangers face.
While Franky was discussing the parts needed Usopp was quiet the whole time something was off with this guy, he looked scary (and handsome but Usopp did not admit that even to himself) but acted very kind and understanding. Not to mention based on what he heard from the conversation he knew what he was talking about. "HAHAHA" Frankies booming laugh got him out of his trance. The guy must have said something awfully funny since he was smiling as well a big smile, a very attractive smile. What? Usopp was very confused at this point. "I could really use someone like you on the ship to help with repairs wouldn't you say Usopp, Chopper?" Asked Franky smiling, the two were just standing there silently. "Sorry how rude of me" said the guy still smiling "I didn't even introduce myself Im Y/N". "Im Franky these two are Usopp and Chopper" smiled Franky while pointing at the two. Usopp and Chopper still didn't say anything. Teddy got down on one knee looked at chopper and reached in his pocket. The too scaredy cats were watching his every move when suddenly he pulled out candy from his pocket. "Do you want one little reindeer?" Asked Y/N with a smile Chopper immediately forgot his fear. Not only because the stranger had candy but because someone finally saw him as a reindeer at the first meeting and not a raccoon. He walked over to Y/N and took some candy. Y/N patted his head. Chopper looked up at him and a bit shyly but asked him: "what are those pointy things on your jacket?". The e/c eyed male laughed and answered: "They are spikes I wear them cuz I think it looks cool" smiled the man than put his tongue out in a rocker way to make the little reindeer laugh. Chopper did laugh and then asked: "Can I touch them?" Y/N smiled and motioned for him to come closer. Chopper liked his spikes very much he thought they are dangerous at first that they hurt, but they didn't. This way Chopper ended up sitting on Y/Ns shoulder. Usopp watched this whole scene with interest. You were THIS nice. Now he feels stupid for thinking you are mean or anything but the way you are dressed deceived him. Usopp was staring at you red faced. It was not only that you were really good looking you had the kindest personality as well and he really couldn't deny it any longer even to himself he liked you, a lot. Y/N looked at him next. "So you're Usopp?" He asked smiling maybe a bit red in the face...? Nah Usopps eyes were lying to him he surely just saw what he wanted to.
"I...uh...YES, I am the great captain Usopp indeed" he said while sweating trying to play it off full of pride. He was kind of embarrassed after a short silence and he was about to apologize when he heard the most pleasant laughter he had ever heard. Y/N laughed at his antics he thought it was hilarious. "Wow alright mighty and powerful captain Usopp" he said whit a mock bow, then they both started laughing Chopper didn't really get it he just sat on Y/Ns shoulder eating the Candy he got while Franky just looked at them with a knowing smile.
After they bought everything they needed (which took nearly the whole day since they had such a great time with Y/N) they had to go back to the ship. Usopp was not happy nor was Chopper and to be fair Franky also took a liking to Y/N so its safe to say none of them wanted to leave him on the island. Y/N was not happy either to see them go he had a great time and enjoyed Usopps funny antics to no end. How ever to recruit a new crew mate was not their job not to mention they had no idea if Y/N was any good in battle.
Usopp was sulking the whole way back. And on the ship as well. They planned to stay on the port of the island for the night then set sail in the morning.
Zoro was on night watch and all of a sudden he saw someone approaching the ship. He stood up to see if the person was actually coming to the ship, but there was no misunderstanding the person was coming to the ship with something on their shoulder and a small bag in their hand. Zoro reacted the moment he saw that that something on the strangers shoulders was an ax.
He jumped off the ship right on the stranger. However, to Zoros utter disbelief, they dodged it. Now that the street light helped him see he saw that it was a guy, wearing a leather jacket with spikes badges and what not. This did not interest him however the thing that bothered him was the ax on his shoulder and the fastness he dodged his attack with it was almost inhuman like.
"What do you want with this ship?" Asked Zoro accusingly. "Listen this is a misunderstanding-" but the stranger did not get to finish their sentence because Zoro attacked. To Zoros disappointed the stranger blocked all of his blows and dodged them with excellence and grace very much like he saw Mihawk do it. The only difference between this guy and Mihawk was that he didn't attack back he just kept defending and of course he used an axe. The rest of the strawhats woke up to this commission outside and watched the fight with shock. Someone holding their own against Zoro with one hand and a small axe without breaking a sweat or attacking back? This was crazy. The moment Usopp stepped on the front of the ship to see whats going on his eyes widened and he looked at Franky. "Isnt that-" "Yes he is" "shouldn't we-" "Yes we should" the two looked at each other then forward at the battle and started yelling "STOP STOP" very loudly Franky jumped off the ship to stop Zoro while Usopp ran over to Y/N to stop him as well.
"Huh?" Asked Zoro after Franky stood in front of him. "Why are you standing in the way?" He asked kind of upset, Franky didn't answer just looked at Y/N and asked "What are you doing here Y/N?".
"Im sorry to disturb your night but after I was going to close the shop I found Usopps bag, and I wanted to return it, so after I left the shop I tried to find your ship based on how you guys described it and well I got kinda lost thats why I only got here this late" explained the s/c male panting lightly due to dodging Zoros attacks. Usopp got red in the face, very red, he left his bag there and didn't even notice since he was busy thinking about Y/N all night. "Thanks Y/N so much somehow I didn't even notice" "Wait you know this punk?" Asked Zoro.
"Wow you're quick" laughed Y/N lightly this made others chuckle a bit as well. "We bought ship supplies from him he was the shop keeper we were telling you about during dinner" yelled Chopper excitedly while running to Y/N to sit on his shoulders. "I don't care what shop you own how did you dodge my attacks this effortlessly?" Asked Zoro still a bit pissed. "Oh thats all thanks to my dad he trained me all my childhood" answered Y/N truthfully. "Your dad? Who is your dad if I may ask the way you move reminds me of someone" asked Sanji. He took a liking to the punk the moment he made fun of Zoro. "Mihawk, Dracule Mihawk" Everyones jaw dropped with their eyes bulging out of their sockets. "MIHAWK HAS A KID???" Yelled Zoro shocked. "Yeah Im kind of used to these reactions however y'all are a bit extreme Im guessing you know him" said Y/N in a usual tone not very phased by their reactions."Join my crew" said Luffy all of a sudden. Nami screamed when she notice Luffy was standing next to her because when everyone came out he was still sleeping. "You look strong and I saw you fight then I heard you are Mihawks son you are joining my crew" said Luffy smiling big. "Oh... eh I really didn't plan on becoming a pirate..." started off Y/N. Then he looked at Usopp who was looking at him with hopeful eyes and then at Chopper who was looking with puppy eyes Franky also tried doing Puppy eyes but it looked rather creepy from a big man like him. It was still hard though Y/N liked this town not to mention his shop. "But you are joining" said Luffy still smiling then headed back to his bed like the discussion was ower "uh..." Y/N stood there confused, then Usopp started laughing, "Yeah Im afraid it isn't your decision " Usopp continued laughing then started to walk towards the ship. With everyone else "Come on Y/N you are our nakama now" smiled Usopp while grabbing his hand and walking to the Thousand sunny. Never judge a book by its cover I guess you could say that for any member of the Straw hat crew Y/N will fit right in.
The locals were throwing them a feast in thanks for saving the village. With music and booze and meat - what more could they ask for?
The chief even brought out a local speciality.
"This drink," he explained, "will compell you to go to your friends and tell them something honest." He went on to explain that though it might not be something you would normally say out loud, it very rarely led to hurt feeling on either side - it did of course happen ocasionally, but the drink was made specifically to celebrate and help strengthen bonds.
When offered the chance to try it, no one was surprised that Luffy took the opportunity. Their cook was next, having caught a wiff of it Sanji insisted he needed to learn the flavour profile. Franky was the third and final volunteer, claiming that honesty was SUPER.
The stawhats kept a close eye on their captain as he bounced around chatting with everyone in his vicinity, though it was hard to tell if the drink had taken effect yet, or if Luffy was simply being Luffy.
"Nami-swan!" Sanji called running eagerly up to the red head, with a bright smile on his face.
She greeted him in turn with a polite smile, allowing him to take one of her hands gently in his own
"Nami-swan, you are such a strong, amazing person and I am so glad that we met. I am so happy that we are friends!"
Namis eyes widdened as a blush spread across her cheeks. "Oh!" That wasnt what she had expected him to say at all. Now she found herself stumbling over how to respond.
"I see the elixer has begun to work, cook-san" Robin cut in with a soft smile.
"Robin-chwan!" He cheered taking her hand in his free one. "You are so brilliant and wonderful. Im always excited for you when we find ruins for you to study, or a poneglyph for you to read. I love seeing you happy!"
It was Robins turn to be left speachless. She knew the strawhats were okay with humouring her passion, but it still caught her off guard that they were people, that there could be people, who genuinely cared about her happiness.
Movement off to the side caught Sanjis attention and he took off as quickly as he had appeared.
"Usopp!" He cried, wrapping the man in a hug.
"Oof. Okay okay, you can let go-"
"I know how brave you are Usopp! I see it every time you do what you need to despite being scared! But i will still always do my best to protect you whenever I can!"
Usopps eyes watered for a moment before he threw his arms around the chef. "Sanji!!"
Zoro doesnt know what draws the blondes attention his way, hell maybe its just another special property of the drink, makes you zero in on the people you know one by one. He sort of wishes he hadnt been noticed though.
"Zoro!" He tried not to squirm or duck away as he was approached.
He didnt need the cook rushing over to - what? Tell Zoro that theyre friends? He knows theyre friends, its not something either of them should have to say out loud. Thats not what they do.
Or worse, the curly-browed idiot could decided to say something like 'you're strong', or 'you're a good fighter', or 'I respect you'.
That would just be uncomfortable for both of them. And the cook would probably regret it in the morning.
And just how would Zoro be able to respond to that? Zoro sure as hell cant respond in kind to that sort of comment. Hes not the one who drank a truth potion after all.
He could pick a fight of course, make fun of the blonde for coming over and smiling and talking with complete sincerety. Laugh at him for willingly taking the drink and spilling out his feelings everywhere.
"Oi! Zoro!" The cook was grinning at him in a way he never did, or at least he was until he tripped on something on the path and a look of concentration replaced the smile as the man focused on staying upright while stumbling the last few feet forward. This had Zoro fighting off a smile of his own. The staggering blonde was a stupid, and maybe slightly endearing, sight.
Sanji caught himself with one hand planted on Zoros chest, staring down at it in complete fascination.
"I think about kissing you all the time."
What.
Zoros breath caught.
"I would really like to suck your cock." Sanji continued, licking his lips, "Maybe tie you up first if you'd let me."
What?!
The blondes eyes slowly traced up from his hand on Zoros chest to meet his eyes. When he did, whatever he saw there, he seemed to realize exactly what he had just said.
Zoro watched as his mouth opened and closed several times, a dark blush racing across the mans face.
Finally Sanji snatched his hand away and turned on his heel before running back the way he came. Zoro almost chased after until he saw the blondes path change so he could scoop Chopper up in his arms.
The bright smile was back on his face, the blush fading. Whatever he was saying to Chopper had the reindeer wiggling and delightedly calling him a bastard.
Zoro watched the group - Franky was now openly sobbing while Nami pat his shoulder awkardly, Luffy was fully wrapped around Usopp - while he tried to catch up with what just happened.
How the hell was he supposed to respond to that?!
He sighed and decided he could confront the cook tomorrow. (Maybe.)
For now he needed a drink.
Analysis of shipping: One Piece anti-romance arguments
Years before Oda was asked to write Strong World, years before the Summit War saga, even years before many of us joined the fandom, a significant portion of fans shared an anti-romance sentiment.
This perspective was so widespread that it seemed as if the One Piece community in general was convinced no pairing would ever become canon. Sure, there were some exceptions:
Some people dispalyed indifference toward the anti-romance trend, but also towards the emotional narrative of the story. So, they would likely support shallow premises anyway
Others shipped characters by relying on inter-series comparisons that no longer hold up nowadays. (it didn't take long for perceptive individuals to find out how unlikely those "theories" truly were)
Some of these people were editors on other wiki sites, that pointed out how filler provided shipping fuel for stuff that never gets actual development in the manga. And yet, the same editors also promoted a non-existent "sexual tension" as many shallow shippers would, but I digress.
Still, since that era, a lot of arguments had been made for this position regarding romantic love; some were forgotten, and some stuck but in pretty unexpected ways.
So, here we’re going to consider those arguments, how bad they aged, and what possibly led to the anti-romance idea losing its initially strong foothold in the fandom.
The anti-romance idea through time
Firts, let us consider that one of the most important elements that helped the anti-romance idea to grow was how Oda talked about the subject. When the mangaka was asked about if someone from strawhats (except Sanji) was in love, he replied in a SBS they were all "in love with adventure."
While that was a pretty creative answer, it seems some readers weren't satisfied with Oda’s reply. But, it wasn’t like fans couldn’t agree that the statement was technically a correct.
Not to mention that fans back then didn’t have the Hancock character westerners simp so hard for. Instead, they had Alvida as the first woman calling dibs on Luffy...
... But, this was easy to dismiss given how they never became allies or friends.
Still, that doesn’t mean the anti-romance idea didn’t have its weak spots. In fact, Oda gave us an interesting “insight” on one scene, that LuNa fans loved, in the SBS Volume 32:
This was long before Summit War saga. It's interesting how the only girl that managed to make Luffy a “little horny" was Nami.
It’s true that the Oda’s answer would later change to what basically amounts to “bad influence,” when he was confroted with the fact Hancock’s beauty couldn’t get the same response from Luffy. But, the fact, still remains that it was Luffy’s response, unless people want to argue Luffy’s companions have a greater influence on his libido than Hancock’s beauty ever could. Doesn’t sound so good when you think about it, does it?
Of course, a lot of perceptive readers and even some anti-shippers know that being as “horny” as a “healthy boy” is not something inherently romantic. So, even if this moment left a crack on the anti-romance argument by displaying Luffy’s “healthy” reponse to Nami’s sex appeal, that still wasn’t enough to debunk it.
Needless to say, some anti-shippers may claim being “horny” is a must for a relationship to grow, but that myopic perspective completely disregards how emotional connections can develop by sharing meaningful moments instead of lusting after a potential partner.
Moving on, Oda’s vagueness back then just encouraged readers to keep discussing the subject of potential romance by relying on the manga material they had so far. Still, the anti-romance crowd would shortly get another argument, when Oda stated the following:
“One Piece is basically a shonen manga, manga for boys, so romance isn’t depcited“
Ironically, this is where the another crack in the anti-romance idea starts to show. As many chapters later, we got something subtle about Usopp and Kaya at the end of the Ennies Lobby arc.
But, the fact the story focused more on its plot, themes, and other characters, probably made it easier for everyone to miss how this relationship could contradict the 'no romance depcited' argument.
Later, the fandom got introduced to Boa Hancock. While Alvida’s interest in Luffy got scratched as “not romantic enough,” Hancock’s infatuation for the hero couldn’t be ignored due to how over-the-top it was. But, it still wasn’t enough, why?
Because the relationship between Luffy and Hancock never develops into something deep or truly impactful, as Hancock’s crush remains as one-sided as it can get.
Luffy’s rejection to Hancock’s proposal just made it a lot easier for the anti-romance argument to stay strong despite the few cracks it had at that time.
Specially, when you factor context. Luffy’s reply was framed as a negative response to Hancock’s promotion of herself as a potential wife. Add Luffy’s personality to this setup, and no matter how you try to put it, he sunk that ship before it had a chance to sail.
Debunking the “no romance” myth?
So far, we’ve seen things that could a best put a dent on the anti-romance argument. But, what actually destroyed this myth?
We have to flashforward to the Dressrosa arc. Two pairings with tragic backstories were introduced: Kyros and Scarlett & Señor Pink and Russian
Kyros' relationship Scarlett story serves as part of the compelling drama of his background. And we can tell how Pink’s relationship with Russian made his character and current state and struggle emotionally impactful.
This obviously destroyed the argument of “no romance in One Piece” and contradicts Oda’s own “romance isn’t depcited”
It became easy to see that romantic love was not only playing a part in the story, but it was doing so in a way that didn’t negatively impact the author’s work. Instead, Oda used romantic love to enhance both character and story.
And this wasn’t going to be the last time, as One Piece Film: Gold gaves us something we’re about to consider in the following section, as Tesoro and Stella were depicted as lovers.
However, the greatest blow to this argument was delivered by something that not many people saw coming: SanPu's tragic love story
We already know that Pudding’s initial affection was just an act to fool Sanji and carry out Big Mom’s plot against the Vinsmoke family. But, as soon as she has her first genuine moment with Sanji, she develops actual feelings for him as the chef shattered the image she had of her own self for years.
Needless to say, due to their respective crews being enemies, this relationship couldn’t become official, as Pudding gives Sanji a pretty romantic farewell... before removing it from his memory.
Here, romantic love plays a important role in the emotional narrative of the final scenes.
I could mention Kinemon and O-Tsuru, as well as Oden and Toki, but I think that would be overkill at this point.
Still, while the “no romance” myth got destroyed, the anti-shippers didn’t give up, those who saw how this approach became ineffective in promoting anti-romance just made their arguments undergo a microevolution. And this is where we get to the final stage:
“They’re in love... with adventure”
Given that the statment of “romance isn’t depcited” became completely useless, one would think that’s the end. But, instead of trying to encompass the entirety of One Piece, the idea came back to its origin.
All strawhats are “in love with adventure,” so accordig to self-aware anti-shippers, there will be no romantic relationships between members of the strawhat crew, because adventure is their only “love.” But, as the philosopher George Santayana once said:
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it”
And even the old version of this argument started to shows some cracks at the Zou arc:
Nami was both happy and eager to receive Luffy and the rest, and as pointed out by perceptive readers, she could've ran to someone else, like Zoro, something some westerners in high positions clearly wanted, but I digress.
Instead, she went straight to Luffy and only then she let out how she felt about their current predicament with Sanji...
...people try to downplay it by saying the moment was all about the chef. But, the thing is, not only she could’ve ran to someone else's arms, she ran straight to Luffy, but also poured her heart out only when she was with him.
This scene was truly remarkable as it was not only impactful, but also consistent with previous developments between Luffy and Nami as seen in Oda's works.
As we already already analyzed multiple times in this blog, this matches the trend of Nami seeking (and finding) hope, comfort, and strength in Luffy.
While this isn't something explicitly romantic, this consistent bonding could likely lead to a potential growth and an eventual relationship upgrade if the author keeps working on it.
After Dressrosa damaged the credibility of their arguments, and the possibility of more development from characters so important to the story, anti-shippers had seen better days. But, that wasn’t the only thing that left another crack on the last anti-romance argument.
Let’s talk about One Piece Film: Gold
At this point, a lot of LuNa fans, and many people who read my post already how Oda changed the climax of One Piece Film: Gold, and his work speaks for itself...
...as explained in the special Volume 777, Tesoro was in a romantic relationship with a slave: Stella. Their romance ended up in tragedy when he failed to save her from getting bought by a noble.
If we see the climax of the movie, as well as Oda’s draft of the scene, we can see that the intent was for Luffy’s situation with Tesoro holding Nami in his grasp to mirror Tesoro’s own tragedy back when he lost Stella. And thus Oda drew a parallel between Luffy/Nami, and a romantic pair: Tesoro/Stella.
However, many people would find such things too subtle or simply insufficient. But, even if we ignore emotional narrative and trends, the real weak spot in this “no romance in the crew” argument, is the basis itself: “They’re in love with adventure”
This isn’t only a clever response, and a way to avoid the subjet. It is a reminder of what One Piece is at its very core.
You probably don’t hear this one pretty often, but One Piece story is “romance.” In fact, here are some definitions that show how that statement is far more accurate than more people would imagine:
Romance:
“A mysterious or fascinating quality or appeal, as of something adventurous, heroic, or strangely beautiful”
“A long fictitious tale of heroes and extraordinary or mysterious events, usually set in a distant time or place”
“A narrative in verse or prose, written in a vernacular language in the Middle Ages, dealing with strange and exciting adventures of chivalrous heroes”
– thefreedictionary.com, 2016
“A prose narrative treating imaginary characters involved in events remote in time or place and usually heroic, adventurous, or mysterious”
– Merriam Webster, 2016
Romantic:
“Marked by the imaginative or emotional appeal of what is heroic, adventurous, remote, mysterious, or idealized”
“Having an inclination for romance: responsive to the appeal of what is idealized, heroic, or adventurous”
– Merriam Webster, 2016
Remember what’s the title of the first chapter of the manga? “Romance Dawn.”
The claim of the strawhats being in love with adventure fits the definition of “romance” in the framework of the series. But, does this concept exclude romantic love?
No, this narrative style can easily include romantic love if the author wishes to. In fact, as far as we seen, One Piece featured this kind of relationships multple times in the story.
So, trying to uphold this anti-romance phylosophy is ultimately pointless as the only argument left is not enough anymore, and the story already debunks most, if not all of the arguments.
Shippers take the anti-romance approach?
While anti-shippers don’t have a solid ground to stand on, some of their arguments are still used nowadays. Ironically, they’re used by shippers in an attempt to discredit rival pairings
This why the “no romance in the crew” lives on. More often than not, shallow shippers don’t even try to quote the author, instead they repeat what they hear or read in YouTube or Reddit.
This applies to many newcomers that lack the time and patience to stomach a long-running series, as well as people who let their bias for certain characters dicatate their view on the story, something akin to the mindset that feeds the endless squabble of Zoro Vs. Sanji.
Still. the point is that the anti-romance arguments are now the greatest assets for pretty loud individuals to wage shipping wars out of ignorance and hate.
However, this doesn’t mean that there aren’t any active anti-shippers using these arguments. It’s just that LuNa seem to be their favorite target
But, that leads to the question: Why LuNa? Why are pairings like LuHan, SaNa or ZoNa seemingly getting ignored by anti-shippers for the most part?
Well, you guys probably realize I haven’t mentioned Sanji at all in the “Debunking” section. That’s wasn’t something incidental
By the time, the community rebuffed the idea of romantic love in the series, Sanji with all his corny flirting and pervy gags never made a dent in the anti-romance arguments because most people knew back then that being horny is not something romantic. Even when Hancock appeared, fans knew a well-written pairing could only happen if the feelings between the characters become mutual.
So, what makes Luna the favorite target of these people? What makes the pairing stand out to anti-shippers?
Is it because their consistent bonding is the perfect setup for a relationship upgrade? Is it because their moments are far more meaningful and impactful from a narrative standpoint? Or is it because the alternatives to LuNa lack the potential to grow? I’m not sure about it
Still, those who had seen all of this, know better. At this point, anti-romance arguments mean little to nothing in the story. And Oda will keep writing characters and human relationships regardless of what fans do or say.
So, instead of going around making noise about how “there shouldn’t be a romantic relationship in the crew” or trying to start senseless war between fandoms, we should enjoy the ride and see what Oda has in store for us in the final saga.
i hope we get an update on law and bepo in manga soon… i’ve read theories that bepo might take law to zou so they can lie low while law heals. i also hope that the rest of the heart pirates are ok, or at least penguin and shachi.. it might be an unpopular opinion in one piece fandom but i really don’t want law and bepo to join the straw hat crew or any other pirate crew. i want law to be captain of HIS pirate crew, the heart pirates, with bepo as his first mate and wife ofc. the heart pirates are law and bepo’s family. it just feels wrong for them to join another pirate crew :(
yeah nah all the "law is a honorary strawhat" and "laws crew is useless him and bepo should join sh" takes that happened after PH/DR are so fucking disrespectful and shit
law would like to know those people's locations
howd you claim to like the guy and say this. i can bitch about how much i hate this idea forever, itll never happen. law was VERY CLEAR that he is not there to make friendships and hated when he slipped up for a moment and got used to their routine (idc that its a gag, its still characterization to me)
ANYWAY most hated topic aside
i think idea of going back to zou is kind of too reasonable and logical for oda? i cant see him doing it. its gonna be some bullshit. But as long as they dont get separated and we get to see law and bepo together and he shows that bepo is actually valuable as the first mate/laws best friend - im fine.
i have a lot of worries about all the ways he can fuck it up and shaft bepo but im cautiously hopeful
the crew is fine (bepo said so❤️) theyll also save themselves or be saved by someone deus ex machina style. i don't worry abt it that much.
now what im hopeful for is that they can somehow contact law and bepo at some point because i dont hope for a quick reunion but a call woulda been nice...but its op so cant count on that mercy
i also hope we get to see them soon, everyone is dying to see them. i feel you anon
Zosan: Look What You Made Me Do Chapter 2
Man Sanji is very devious. Lord knows what he has planned. Whatever it is, it can't be good that I can assure you.
Every single day at night, this is what Sanji does. Once he was sure the rest of the crew was asleep, he would open a magic portal to a different realm beyond human comprehension. Here the world is ruled by demons.
Once he steps through the portal, his outfit changes. Gone are the gentleman suit. In its place is a revealing black leather corset and a nice black leather thong that showed off his body with a nice long black cape around his neck fasten by a silver broach. Two large black demon horns adorn his head with a nice long tail sprouting from behind him.
Gone was the sweet, innocent Sanji the crew once knew. In his place was a ferocious, power hungry monster who would happily kill anyone that came his way. He felt a lot more alive in his demon form. Why had he not embraced this side of him sooner?
All the demon lords immediately bowed to him once they see him. Compared to the useless simp everyone knows, this Sanji is a more powerful being. He did not need to seduce anyone or suffer from nosebleeds. Rather, he easily commands respect from all around him. Some of the Lords and demons have already professed their lust for him. Heck, he has even fucked a couple of them. Who knew he had the natural power of seduction? Perhaps he needs to add this to his arsenal of dangerous skills.
But none of them give him as much pleasure as their master, the King of the Underworld, Akuma, who was seated on his throne, awaiting his arrival. For years, Sanji thought that he was straight, that women were all he needed.
Now he understands better. He loves both genders and would happily fuck anyone, so long as he gained the pleasure he desired. Yes, he is not as innocent as he appears to be. The other Strawhats, Zoro in particular, believe that he had never gotten laid. How wrong they were. Every island they end up in, there will always be that one woman or man that would kindly offer themselves to him. So Zoro was kind of right about him being perverted. But his definition of perversion differs from Sanji’s.
No. Sanji is a far broken man. His sexuality plays a role in his brokenness, which was why he hesitates whenever men showed an interest in him. Akuma changed all that for him.During his time at Germa, Akuma happened upon him in one of the bathroom stalls. To say Sanji almost screamed would be an understatement.
He remembers Akuma shushing him and drawing his naked body closer, kissing his body all over and eventually claiming him as his. Although Akuma was a demon; he was a very handsome one. Tall, dark haired with reddish skin tone. The more Sanji starred at his face, the more Akuma reminded him of his now long-lost lover, Ace, because he looked just like him.
The other Strawhats were not aware of that, or maybe some of them knew about him and Ace. He and Ace had a very special bond and a special relationship. That was his first love. So him dating someone that looks like him, one cannot help but wonder whether his deeply traumatized mind may be seeing double. Or maybe Akuma used a similar visage as Ace’s to manipulate him into becoming his sex slave.
Either way, Sanji was already way too far gone. And it showed with the many atrocities he has committed behind the scenes, sins that his fellow crewmates have no clue about. He was more than Akuma’s sex pet. He was a King down here and also a crazy military tactician, no surprises given his status as the former prince of Germa.
He was a mess and the reason he continued down this path is because as far as he was concerned, there was no place in the world for someone as weak and worthless as him. He was broken beyond repair that he wonders why he is still alive. Could that be why Zoro came to see him earlier on? No one knows the secret tears he often cries. Or of his eating disorder. Or the many times he tries not to scream. Him being with Akuma at a glance seems like a band-aid for his broken soul. But these days, he started questioning his loyalty.
Thankfully, Akuma does not have any form of Haki and even if he did, it was a lot weaker than his. Which gives Sanji free rein to do as he pleased.
“Welcome home my love.” Akuma says in that sweet sensual tone that he usually reserves for Sanji. Sanji smirks and takes his rightful seat in Akuma’s laps. “Oh how I have missed you my king.” he says as he gives his Master a kiss.
“I am surprised those crewmates of yours have not figured out yet.” Sanji chuckles. “What can I say? I can be a great actor whenever I want to be. And besides, they are one step closer to their ultimate goal darling. But I fear those foolish Marines and Yonkos may get in the way.”
“Very well, then we need to speed up preparations. What about the World Government?”
“They seem to be closing in too especially after Luffy finally awakened his Devil Fruit power.”
“As expected. Though I do wonder who their leader is.”
“Till this day, no one knows but I have been hearing whispers my Lord.”
“Really? Pray tell me.”
Sanji smirks deviously. He enjoys the power he has over this man. The more he talks with him like this, the more knowledge he gains, knowledge that he can exploit against him later. Akuma is not aware that the other demons all hate him and love Sanji more due to his kindness. Yes Sanji is a crazy little bitch now but he still has his heart deep down and he uses it to his advantage.
Sanji slowly raises up to his feet. “I heard stories of some ancient being being the true power behind the World Government. Who this person is. No one knows. But the only way we can know for sure, is when the war finally begins. I suppose that could be what the One Piece is all about. Perhaps, it is some sort of weapon. Because why else would the World Government hide all their dirty secrets? There was a war that happened about 800 years ago and they are responsible for it for sure. The rest of the Universe is paying for their sins.”
“So what do you suggest we do?”
Sanji’s smirk gets even more devious. “We wait till the Strawhats either reach that final island. Or, we wait and see if that big war happens before then. If that happens, that would force the Strawhats to carry out their goal quicker.”
“If that is the case, then let’s do it!!” The other demons roared in approval whilst the dmeon lords exchanged knowing smirks.
A couple hours later, Sanji returns to the ship via the portal. It was still late at night. Everyone was still sleep. He no longer really needs sleep given his demonic powers that he got after Akuma made love to him that first time.
He smirks as he lies down on his bed. “It seems that my plan is working. It is only a matter of time. As for my father, oh I have a special arrangement for him.”
Strip Poker (NSFW) KidLaw
Another prompt I was given was Strip Poker so why not do a possessive Eustass. About 1k words this does have some smut so if that is not your thing don’t read. Also I do take oneshot or fic requests if you have something you want to read about.
Trafalgar Law is flawed in one area of his life, cards. He can’t play them, and usually won’t play them unless there is something in it for him. And there was one thing he wanted to see knowing without fail, sure as the sun would rise the next morning that this would work. Cackles filled the air as Luffy gripped his stomach practically sprawling himself across the floor.
“Again Traffy?” Laughter broke each syllable as he attempted to speak. Around him, both swordsman and cook shared their captain's sentiment in a more contained manner. His own two crewmates were mildly amused. Everyone except for him.
“Pay up Trafalgar,” The Strawhats navigator held her hand out expectantly moving her finger to match her words. As if he was unaware that he had not just lost four consecutive rounds leaving him bare. There was no chill to the evening island air as he stood to remove one of his only remaining articles of clothing.
“Woooo take it off,” The room was filled with jesting comments, comments that fed unbridled emotion like wildfire. His fingers hooked into his jean, meticulously unhooking the button and then the zipper. Those eyes watched him, no, consumed his every movement. The attention felt hot on his skin, unyielding, demanding for him to know he was watching. His eyes flicked up to the source locking with the molten orange eyes that glowed in the firelight. A flutter of desire stirred in his heart.
‘You want a show Eustass-ya I’ll give you one. One where you can’t touch me yet, where you are confined to your seat in the sand only able to watch. Unable to claim what is yours. How long can you last?’ His own smirk seemed to challenge. The answer was immediate, Eustass’s jaw worked, flexing with each clench as Law promptly bent at the hips. Inch by inch the fabric revealed tanned skin, skin that no doubt bore Eustass’s touch, kiss, or bite at one point.
Pupils dilated as they fought to hold Law’s stare dipping occasionally to drinking the sight of the long tanned legs, decorated in tattoos that he had traced a thousand times. The thought deepened his smirk and Eustass seemed to know exactly why. In the sand, his remaining hand had begun to trace the patterns of Law’s tattoos as if he was touching them. Fully removing the pants Law sat back on the beach in his boxers enjoying the dark flash that appeared in the other captain's bright eyes.
“Traffy you can’t lose this round,” Luffy still laughed, mouth half full of the meet he had somehow obtained.
“It would be unwise for all of us if you lost this round Law,” Sanji spoke up from where he carefully watched the two captains. Law said nothing in return as Nami dealt out the next hand with a feline grin. There was some part of him that was certain the game was rigged not that he minded since it all worked in his favor.
His hand was shit, again and Nami knew it. Her eyes danced with entertainment as the round closed up leaving Law to lay down his pitiful hand. He knew all eyes were on him however he only felt the stare of one.
“I guess you are the first to lose it all Trafalgar.”
“No.” The word caused everyone to turn. Law wasn’t sure when the redhead had risen to his feet but Eustass stormed over stepping directly through the middle of the cards. Metal licked at his skin before the grip tightened like a snake with its prey. It took less than a second for him to find himself hoisted over the larger man's shoulder. “You don’t get to see what’s mine.”
The last word shot through Law faster than adrenaline, coursing through his veins as if his life force. Eustass knew the reaction the word drew out of Law. The claim that ruled him so thoroughly he could know nothing else. Law could not get them to his room fast enough. Teeth already marked flesh before soothing licks coaxed at the skin. Tangled in hair fingers worked praising the oral worship of the other.
"You are mine." Was all Eustass could say, over and over all night as he claimed the darker-haired man. Fast and then slow, each word deliberate a prayer and a promise. It was moaned and grunted, it was fucked into Law's very skin by the end of the night
Law let him claim him until well into the next morning. Lazily he laid his head upon the pale chest enjoying the steady beat of his heart until the rumbling of words masked it. "I meant it you are mine."
"As if I could ever forget." Lifting his head Law studied him, orange irises peeked through hooded lids. Serenity encased them both as if their guards had never been drawn against each other. As if it was their souls alone for all eternity worshiping one another. His eyelids fell shut again, craving the sleep he need. The world began to fade as sleep clawed at him desperately.
"I would do it again to prove it to you, to prove to the world that you are mine alone."
Bonus:
“That will be 50 Berries Zoro.” Nami chirped happily ready to collect from the already indebted swordsman.
“Witch.” Before Zoro could search for the nonexistent pouch of money he owned a hand-tossed her the coins. Without another word Sanji walked off leaving the two dumbfounded.
Robin feels so fundamentally Jewish to me and ofc I am Biased™️ but it’s like:
- The literal annihilation anxiety. Being hunted her whole life, never able to stay in one place for long. Being sold out by the people who should have sheltered her, endangered again and again and again bc nobody saw fit to grant her the right to live
- The survivor’s guilt. The image of the people in her community being massacred.
- Realistically, the fact that she’s been called a demon could be its own whole point unfortunately
- But! Don’t think it’s only the trauma or the negative things!
- Her main connection to her family and community being via her mother.
- Her love of history and scholarship. Her almighty devotion to it.
- I actually can’t stress that last point enough? I think if you aren’t familiar with how important those things are to Jewish people you might just not get it. It’s been said that history is the seventh Jewish “sense.” All of Judaism is built around preserving its own living history. Scholarship has always been hugely important to Jewish populations. The very act of interpretation, analysis, study; they’re an act of their own holy work.
- Her dark sense of humor. Big one honestly. There’s a reason so many Jews can seem “flippant” with their dark humor (it’s the trauma) and she has a similar response
- The fact that Jewish history has so often been obscured, been denied, invalidated. That historical revisionism has only had a resurgence in this latest wave of antisemitism. The fact that some of the most powerful institutions in the world still hold Jewish cultural artifacts hostage and claim them as their own (cough cough, the Catholic Church, cough cough)
- The literal tree of knowledge!!! Helloooo!!!
- The emphasis on language and being able to read, to interpret and comprehend, the words of language in her story. The fact that this is treated as both her greatest asset and greatest sin, that ancient knowledge is itself being treated as forbidden
- Kabbalah studier Robin. I’m right
- The sense of abstraction w her own body. Her ability to literally “grow” herself anew from scattered parts. The fact that she can become her own golem, extend beyond her body like clay.
- The fact that the crux of her development is about admitting she wants to live. There’s a reason Jews say “L’chaim,” to life, when they toast. Life is sacred, and for thousands of years there have been Jews whose only sign of hope has been to look to the fact that they’re still alive. They’re still here, they still draw breath, they still eat and drink and celebrate. There is nothing more painful and more sweet.
- Joining the Strawhats is her Lech Lecha; “Go forth.” Those moments when you are urged to leave, to explore, to go boldly beyond yourself into the unknown. From the poem “Becoming” by Rabbi Norman Hirsh: “God disturbs us toward our destiny / by hard events and by freedom's now urgent voice / which explode and confirm who we are. / We don't like leaving. / but God loves becoming.”
I already made some comments but this anon ask is still on my mind because... wow. I'm caught up with One Piece and Golden Kamuy, but haven't read or watched the other series, so I'll focus on those two.
Before I actually start I will say I get the feeling Anon hasn't actually read or watched any of the series they're talking about. I'll get back to this later. I also want to say that attacking the person running this blog was not the way to go. It's just rude at best, though I'm missing context so I cannot really debate it.
The first point that has been bothering me is claiming Yamato isn't actually trans, that it's just a translation error. Now, my Japanese is extremly basic so I cannot speak for the original, but every single translation out there, official or made by fans, uses masculine terms and pronouns for Yamato. He is also shown using the men's bath (alongside the male strawhats and Momonosuke) at the end of the Wano arc. Having read this, do you really think it's just a mistranslation?
Regarding the art style, I also really hate the way Oda draws women, but the issue with Anon's ask is the following line:
"So unless they go through an actual gender transition and not just a pronoun change." Do you think that trans people are only valid if they medically transition? Do you think trans people are only valid if they pass? Anon claims to care for LGBTQ+ repressentation but at the end of the day, they're the transphobic ones.
As a transmasc myself, I find that Yamato is amazing trans representation, because even though he doesn't pass, his gender is respected by the rest of the cast. Most if not all trans men and transmasc One Piece fans love Yamato too.
To end with the One Piece section, Yamato is not the only trans/queer character in One Piece. In the same arc he's introduced (Wano), we have Kiku, a beautiful trans woman. Back in Alabasta (the year 2000!) we met Mr. 2 Bon Clay, a non-binary character that while stereotypical, is treated with lots of respect. Later on, in Impel Down, we have two genderfluid characters: Emporio Ivankov and Inazuma, two revolutionaries who help Luffy.
The queer representation in One Piece isn't perfect and it would be dishonest of me to not mention the Kamabakka kingdom which I'll admit is pretty offensive, but Anon's point wasn't about that at all, it was about Yamato and they had the nerve to claim he isn't actually trans.
I mentioned I had the feeling Anon hadn't actually consumed the media they talked about and these last two paragraphs prove it: If Anon had watched or read One Piece, they would know about its history of queer characters.
This 'essay' is so long already, but I still need to tackle Golden Kamuy.
First point I want to bring up is the way Anon lumps in indigenous people around the globe into a monolith. There is a lot of overlap between the histories of various indigenous people, but native americans and the Ainu are simply not the same. Treating all indigenous people regardless of where they come from as the same is, dare I say, a bit racist.
"I swear they could not have had a single person from Hokkaido, much less a member of the actual Ainu people involved in the creation of that anime or manga." This is easily disproven. Satoru Noda, the mangaka, is literally from Hokkaido. Noda worked with an Ainu language consultant and at the end of the series, he provides a full bibliography of sources used.
Anon claims every single native character acts like a bad native stereotype, but fails to elaborate, so I don't really know what they're talking about? The Ainu cast in Golden Kamuy is diverse, as well as the other indigenous groups shown in the series. They have their own personalities and of course, they aren't perfect people, but no one in Golden Kamuy is, regardless of their ethnicity. I could go character by character but this response is long enough as it is.
^ all of these characters are Hokkaido Ainu
Anon proceeds to talk about fanservice in Golden Kamuy, calling it exploitative, but they fail to talk about how the fanservice is actually like. The nudity and sexuality falls mostly on the male characters and most of the time it's accompanied by comedy. I don't really know why Anon went on this tangent either. They also mention gay characters, but again, doesn't elaborate? Weird trend to not expand on their points, it just makes that feeling I mentioned at the start bigger.
Anon calls Wilk white and Asirpa half-white, when in reality Wilk is half-white (Polish and Sakhalin Ainu) while Asirpa is subsequently, only a quarter. This actually does not have that much plot relevance, it only matters in the sense that these two have blue eyes, which only matters so people can know they're related.
About the new kind of Ainu woman... Anon has either not read Golden Kamuy or did it with their eyes closed. Asirpa does not call herself a new Ainu woman because she's white passing. She isn't even white passing! She looks perfectly asian and other characters recognise her as Ainu and Ainu alone. She calls herself a new Ainu woman because of the way Wilk raised her to fight for her people.
I'll be blunt: Calling a mixed character fully white or just claiming they're whiter than they are is whitewashing. Especially when being an ethnic minority is so important to their story. Anon claims to care for BIPOC, but then pulls stunts like this. I'll also be honest and say their 'essay' felt less like an essay and more like an angry rant which is there to hate for the sake of hating.
Again, it feels like Anon hasn't actually read these manga and is just forming opinions based on whatever they've heard instead of the actual works. Sending such a mean ask that practically attacks OP is horrible especially with the points Anon attempts to make.
I've been waiting to respond since you made that post mocking us for wanting problematic characters banned from your polls because apparently you are not taking legitimate criticism of anime seriously. Because it is full of poor representation of minorities and lgbtq+ and you and all of your followers are laughing about it like it's nothing.
I will start with Yamato because everyone acts like one piece even though it's so full of misogyny. Having a trans character is amazing when I don't even think Yamato is actually trans. I'm pretty sure it's a translation error and everyone has latched on to it. So again that is not good representation if it's not confirmed representation and even if it was confirmed, it's not good representation. Yamato because of the one piece art style by default Yamato is full-blown a fetishization of trans people because all one piece characters if they are drawn, female presenting are drawn like sex dolls. So unless they go through an actual gender transition and not just a pronoun change. There cannot be good representation with Yamato because Yamato is a fetish, not a fully fleshed out character. I mean to boil it all down. I don't think the author is capable of having any good lgbtq+ representation one piece is just not a sophisticated enough story and the characters are just too shallow for that to be possible
Bleach did a similar thing with Yoruichi acting like it was so amazing to have a character of color and she is supposedly bisexual but she's just waifu bait and it reeks of misogyny and fetishization of BIPOC. She's a furry to top it all off. It doesn't help that the bunny chick from my hero is basically the new gen version of the same character, but at least she is disabled too. So at least they tried to do something with her character other than waifu bait
So I would like to know why every character I've seen promoted as great representation in anime for either the BIPOC or LGBTQ+ communities seem to only be horribly fetishized, useless, waifu bait. Not actually a good character.
And even when Japan is dealing with its own ethnic minorities and indigenous populations it still does a horrible job by playing into the Noble Savage stereotype Hollywood likes to play into. Have you not seen the anime Golden Kamuy? It's about Japan's own first Nations tribe and it's So disrespectful to that. I swear they could not have had a single person from Hokkaido, much less a member of the actual Ainu people involved in the creation of that anime or manga. And yet I've seen so many people brag about that anime and manga and how it's so good for diversity. When again, every single Ainu character acts like a bad native American stereotype from like a 1950s American Hollywood western. It's that bad and don't get me started on the fan service in that show. It's at a level that could be considered exploitative but it's okay. Some of the characters might be gay so it's representation. To top it all off it reinforces white colonial beauty standards because the main Ainu character is specially because she's half white and has blue eyes like her white dad and she talks about how she's going to be a new kind of better Ainu for the future because she's white passing. That show is a reductive racist dumpster fire and I can't believe anyone says otherwise.
But you said you won't ban characters unless the fandom becomes too toxic. But you really should consider looking out for the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities by not promoting toxic problematic characters and actually banning these toxic problematic characters and shows
Small list of what could potentially be canon info we got from Film Red and some personal interpretations:
-Blueno either has a limited amount of doors he can use in a short period of time or at least it takes some energy to summon them which limits his usage. He didn't summon that many doors in the movie and already claimed he couldn't summon more
-Shanks fights with a sword but when he went up against Tot Musica he had a red aura surrounding him which might hint at a different ability he might have. Of course it could just he an artistic choice since colours were all over the place towards the end.
-Yassop's observation haki is about as good or better than Katakuri's, at least they could do the same thing (looking into the dream world through their relative's eyes). Ussop also showed this ability, meaning his observation haki in the story has already improved a lot since its awakening on Dressrosa or he will make a major improvement soon.
-Considering Ussop and Yassop shared a level of observation haki in the movie, it's possible that Ussop might be able to use future sight too in the near future
-Ben Beckmann does fire his gun and doesn't just use it to beat the shit out of people like we've seen previously. He did threaten Kizaru with it during Marine Ford but we've never actually seen him fire it
-There were some other parallels shown between the strawhats and some members of Shanks' crew which could determine some of the remaining rolls in Shanks' crew but I don't remember all of the sync attacks and I don't know most of Shanks' crew by name
-It appears that Rob Lucci, when stationed at Mary Joa(yes that's how I write it, sue me), is tasked with directly guarding the Gorosei, rather than any other world nobles. This might indicate that he could still be at least one of the three strongest members of CP0 -Blueno and Kalifa still work for the WG/work for them again just like Kaku and Lucci. It can be assumed that they’re working for CP0 too but not in a tier as high as Lucci and the other masked agents. -Shanks apparently came to Rogers ship because they found him in a chest, which is pretty major because one does not casually walk onto the pirate kings ship
some one piece headcanons i have
characters ; law, robin, nami, sanji
tw ; characters' trauma/s
a/n : aaaa, this is my first time writing again. i used to write oneshots and full blown fanfiction books but i wanna try headcanons/scenarios (´-﹏-`;).
i am also well aware that some of these headcanons already exist but i headcanon them too! i hope it doesn't bother anyone (。ŏ﹏ŏ).
let me know if i should make more of these or suggest a character! you can also send feedbacks about anything. my asks are open too <33.
trafalgar law
i love the idea that he still has his white lead marks around his face and body. it's not as visible anymore but if you look closely, it's there.
as much as he loves his peace and quiet, he feels restless if he doesn't have any background noises. it reminds him of the night he lost corazon.
post-dressrosa, he was feeling a little lost since he already fulfilled his purpose of finishing what corazon couldn't.
oftens wonder if corazon would be proud of him (he is).
has a picture of his crew on his desk with corazon's 1×1 on the corner.
is NOT organized, has crumpled notes and scratch around his desk and a bin full of paper.
would sleep on his desk and sofa but NEVER on his bed.
nico robin
hates loud noises and explotions since it reminds her of ohara.
would stay up because she'd sometimes get night terrors about ohara's incident.
has high pain tolerance because she's used to pain.
plays the mom figure subconsciously since she knows what if feels like to not have one by her side.
her and nami would talk about their mothers. robin loves to listen even if she can only add a few into the conversation.
i like to think if she laughs so much, she'll actually go "terushishishishi".
would doodle saul on the edge of her notes when she's thinking.
loves giants because of saul and would love to visit elbaf not just because of history.
loves to play with the other strawhats' hair.
actually started finding bizarre things cute out of pity since she knows what its like to be disliked/feared but it grew on her.
nami
distances herself when reminded of the past out of nowhere.
she usually starts having flashbacks when she's doing her charts, reminded of how she sat on that chair for hours.
does NOT like it when people point out she's bothered or ask if she's okay even when she already insisted she's fine and lashes out.
would feel bad and lonely after lashing out so she's go out the deck and watches the crew.
she doesn't apologize verbally, but her body language says so otherwise.
takes showers and baths in hopes that it would also wash out her negative thoughts.
has an old drawing she made of her, bellemere and nojiko when she was 6 pinned by her bed side table.
TRIES to budget her shopping money (keyword: tries).
would crouch down to pet every cat she sees and is also a cat tamer.
vinsmoke sanji
cooks to keep his mind from overthinking. (doesn't work)
most of the common things he cook are those he'd love his mother to try out.
hates children with a burning passion but would love to have his own.
confident about his abilities as a chef and fighter but don't get me started about his self worth.
VERY EMOTIONAL but doesn't show it because that's not him.
would cry if you hug him.
his favorite knife is the one he always practiced with when he was zeff's apprentice. the handle is already worn and the blade lost it's gloss but it feels like he's back in baratie.
his hair is SO soft but claims he doesn't use anything special. even nami is jealous of his locks.
his locker is just his clothes hanged properly and the bottom is a STOCK of cigarettes.
lowkey the best person to go to for comfort, no joke. (MAKE SURE YOU'RE THERE FOR HIM TOO.)
Part I: Wisdom of a Moss
Disclaimer: One Piece and it’s wonderful characters is owned by Eiichiro Oda. The following work of fiction is just my way of filling in some spaces in his work with my shameless imagination.
This and my other work is also available in ff.net.
Rating: K+
Word Count: 4k+
Genre: Friendship, Comfort, Humor, sprinkle of Fluff
Pairing: Zoro/Nami
Summary: Set after Ch. 955 in the manga. Nami reflects on their current journey and her worries are let known to a certain swordsman.
A/N: Being the ones to be beside Luffy since the very beginning, I figured if there is someone to reflect on how their journey has been it has to be these two. Seeing also how they have the dynamic of Nami being worrisome and Zoro comforting just telling her how things are (e.g. Davy back fight, Usopp leaving the crew), I thought if someone in the crew is going to feel this way, it would be Nami, with Zoro being there to talk it out.
This was supposed to be a one- shot but I ended up having a vision of a scene to wrap this up which I’m trying to get to. So looks like there would be more. Hopefully I somehow mostly stayed in character. Hope you enjoy.
---------------------
"What's a dango?" the Strawhat's doctor asked, eyes glinting, as Sanji helped unload the fragrant boxes of dango sent by one of the allies. They were gathered around a table in their small camp. The preparations for the raid in Onigashima nearing its completion.
" Hmm…dango? Ah yes, you see Chopper, it's a type of weapon, disguised as colorful treats that when eaten, causes one to be hypnotized and start walking backwards! An assassin once tried this weapon on me…" Usopp started explaining as the glint in the poor reindeer's eyes started to die out.
"…but you see the great and mighty Uso—"
"Wrong!" The blonde cook shouted, sandaled foot connecting on the sniper's head. "Stop disrespecting food like that!"
Nami cringed at the thought of a hypnotizing, backward walking individual they had once encountered.
"It's a sweet rice dumpling, Chopper. And no, it won't hypnotize you when you eat it." Nami said sweetly, to the relief of the horrified reindeer.
Nami's eyes narrowed to the now laying on the ground Usopp and huffed.
"I should go call the others."
"No Onami- swan! How about you stay here and let's have someone else call the others." Sanji said, glaring at Usopp, who's now nursing a bump on his head.
"It's okay Sanji- kun," she said, forcing a smile on her face. "I needed the walk anyway."
"If you say so mellorine~, shall I accompany you?" said the cook, with hearts on his eyes.
"Just stay here and guard the food Sanji- kun." Giving one last weak smile, the navigator turned to leave, feeling the need to be by herself with her thoughts.
"Alright you shits! Nobody eats until Nami swan gets back here!"
---------------------
It was easy to find the others as the Strawhat navigator was almost trampled on her way by their captain as he shouted "food! Where's the food?" and took off running excitedly to where she pointed without another word.
She found Robin with Franky, who just got back from the port, and Brook who excitedly claimed how great that would be with tea, the thought just warms his insides, although ah! He does not have any insides.
Only one more left to find. She's just hoping he did not get lost somewhere far.
---------------------
Bamboo leaves rustled as a breeze passed through the forest, orange tresses swayed along, its owner slowly getting lost in her thoughts as the very person she was looking for started to creep on her mind.
"...Zorojuro, I will be blunt with you, if it were me, I would not accept this blade", suggested Kinemon.
One clean strike. Rumble.
Nami wasn't able to stifle her gasp as she watched a huge chunk of the edge of the cliff splash into the waters below.
"Gyaah! Zorojuro's arm!"
Her eyes widened as she watched Zoro's sword wielding arm appear to emaciate after the swing of this new sword. Her mouth open, about to call out at him…
"You! Give it back to me!"
…and she watched as his arm returned to normal, the swordsman seemingly having tamed the sword.
She stood in shocked silence. 'what a scary weapon' she thought, hand on her mouth dropping to her chest as the heartbeat that has quickened its pace started to calm down.
"If you were just some normal swordsman, you would have had all you energy sucked out and collapsed immediately", Hitetsu commented.
The swordsman's face spread into a devilish grin. "So it means once I get used to this sword I'll be stronger? I'll take it, Enma."
A small frown started to form on the navigator's lips. She can't deny the fear that gripped her insides when she saw what happened to Zoro's arm. Such scary power, and he was very much willing to wield it to get stronger.
She let out a huff as she recalled everything they have been through since they reunited and sailed the New world. So much has happened in such a short amount of time. Compared to how it was when they first set sail on the Grandline as a crew, everything that has been going on now seems to be so… intense. And with it, it seems, out of all of them in the crew, it was the green haired swordsman who has been taking everything with so much intensity. Too intense if that demonstration on the cliff has anything to say.
She always knew the guy was intense, even from the very first time she met him, running around, carrying a cage with a profusely bleeding stab wound to his abdomen. She knows the guy would do everything in his power to get stronger. She also knows that much like everyone else in their crew, he would do everything to use that power to protect them and keep them moving towards their dreams.
The problem however, and what really worries her about all this, is that aside from this intensity, he also is an idiot. A big idiot who ends up disregarding himself and his safety for the sake of the crew and getting stronger. She slapped a hand to her forehead as she recalled that time he tried to fight Arlong despite being severely injured, or that time in Little garden when his initial instinct was to cut off his legs, his own damn legs to get free. Or his weird injuries in Thriller bark. She suspected he had something to do with why they all ended up unharmed and Kuma nowhere in sight when they all came to and he was the only one to end up like that. But he just brushed it off and said "who knows? maybe he got scared so he just left". Or how he got back from their two- year separation without his left eye?!
Now he's willing to risk getting his energy sucked by that sword? She knows he's strong, very much so but she really can't help but worry for him. She's already worried for all of them as it is but she can't seem to especially shrug of her worry for her green haired crewmate this time.
Another rustle of leaves, but this time followed by the creaking of falling bamboos snapped the redhead from her thoughts.
---------------------
The swordsman stood in solitude in the middle of the bamboo forest, three swords all unsheathed, trying to get the feel of them with his newly acquired one. There is still some strain on the arm wielding Enma but not as much. He is getting used to this sword quite well. Hitetsu mentioned earlier that he is confident by his hands, this sword will become a black blade. He grinned at that. Tightening his grip on Enma, he closed his eye, and breathed out.
Ever since they set sail on the New world, no, ever since he asked Mihawk to train him back in Kuraigana, he had renewed his resolve that by his swords he will fulfill his promise to Kuina, fulfill his dream, and see to it that his crewmates dreams be fulfilled as well. Defeat such as that at Thriller Bark and Saboady shall never happen again. No longer will he be powerless to protect his crew and their dreams.
He opened his eye and stared at the new sword on his hand. 'Suck its wielder's energy huh?' He grinned, 'try me', his arm moving to make a clean slash at the trees around him.
Too focused on his new sword, it was only after the slash that he sensed another presence nearby.
His one eye widened as he saw the woman at the direction the trees were falling to.
---------------------
Nami yelped as the top ends of a few falling bamboo trees narrowly missed her, causing her to fall on her behind at the ground.
"Baka! What are you doing there?!" Came the strained shout of the very man she was looking for. In an instant, he had closed the distance between them.
"Are you hurt?" Concern and a tinge of panic laced the voice of the swordsman.
She was shocked at first, just staring at the fallen bamboos in front of her then at the crewmate who was responsible for her distracted thoughts just a moment ago and is now crouching beside her.
She blinked, once, twice.
"…"
"Baka?" The word slipped from her mouth with a confused tone as she recovered from her shock.
"Who are you calling baka?!" She erupted, followed by a fist to the side of the swordsman's head.
"Oh great, you're okay. Dammit woman!" the now irritated swordsman said, nursing his head. Despite his reaction, his eyes still scanned her body, looking for any signs of injury.
"Okay?! You almost crushed me with those bamboos!"
"Well, how am I supposed to know you would be there?"
"I don't know, maybe scan the area first before going off slashing these poor unsuspecting trees?"
"I was training! What the hell are you doing, strolling around here anyway?" Zoro grumpily retorted as he held out his hand to help the navigator get up.
Nami stared at the outstretched hand towards her, remembering it's the very same limb that almost got sucked dry by Enma at the cliff. Her irritation dissipated and she let out a breath as she grasped the hand and stood up. Her hand stayed held in his for a brief moment as her eyes flitted to his face, unable to hide the worry in her features. She let go of his hand as she tried to brush off the dust on her yukata.
Zoro stared at her.
"What is it, witch?"
"What was what?"
"That look on your face."
"What? What's wrong with my face?" She tried to brush off.
"…"
"Hey, so you're training with Enma? How's it going? Your arm okay?" She asked, coolly.
He continued to stare at her, narrowing his single eye.
"Hmp." Came the only response from the swordsman.
Not a good answer.
"Ow! What the hell, Nami?!" Zoro growled, trying to fend off the redhead's fingers as she has resulted to poking him sharply on his side.
"I asked you a question!"
Yep, of course that kind of answer is no good to this woman. Zoro sighed and stood up straight, right hand flitting to his swords. "Of course it's okay, this is nothing."
Nami couldn't help but smile lightly at that. Of course that's going to be his answer, she didn't even know why she bothered to ask in the first place. When did she ever hear this man say something is too hard for him or he can't do it?
"Also, I asked a question first. What are you doing here?"
Nami's smile turned to a grimace. Poor Sanji is probably now having a hard time trying to stave off a hungry Luffy from getting his hands off the food.
"Right. Snack time. Sanji- kun sent me here to get you."
'Dartboard brow? Ordering his precious Nami- swan around? And the witch actually doing the task? That's weird.' Zoro thought with a frown, but decided against voicing this out.
"Yeah, I'm not hungry."
Nami's eyes narrowed. "Yeah, you don't quite have a choice at that. See I already walked all the way here. I'm not going back without you."
He glared back at her.
"Also, as a certain idiot decided it is a good day to crush me with bamboo trees... I also happen to be injured, so you'll have to carry me back." She added.
"Injured?!" Sputtered the swordsman. "Woman where? You're perfectly fine!"
"Ehhh, but my ass hurts Zoro- kun." Retorted the navigator as she placed an index finger on her lips, the other hand caressing the round of her butt, and putting on a pout.
'z-zZoro- kun?' The swordsman's eye twitched. 'Oh no. The scheming witch is at it again.
…and did she say her ASS??'
"Yeah I think it's bruised." For a second, pouty lips almost turned into a smirk, but the well-trained navigator held her innocent pout despite the unmistakable mischievous glint in her eyes. "Do you want to check, Zoro?"
Zoro's glare could bore holes.
Just a few minutes ago Enma was the one threatening to suck his energy. Now it's the woman in front of him. What's worse, holding himself against Enma is proving to be easier than doing it against Nami.
'Do I want to cheCK? Damn this woman,' he thought with a stifled gulp, as he tried to push down graphic thoughts he refuses to acknowledge.
Left palm hitting his forehead, sliding it down his face, a heavy sigh left the swordsman. "Fine, get on." And with that, turned to crouch and offer his back to the navigator, whose manipulative face dropped behind him at how that ended without more of a fight from said man.
Nami hesitated for a second. She really thought he would argue, even for little, even if she knew there's no way he's going to win, like how they always did. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't disappointed.
"Hey, I don't have all day."
Without a word, the navigator climbed the swordsman's back.
Zoro stood up and started walking. He tried to ignore how he noticed the subtle difference on how the woman felt pressed to his back, compared to that time in Alabasta when he carried her like this. Or how her yukata had to open-up a bit and shift higher for her to be able to adjust her legs around him. Yeah, there's a different air to his current situation now. But he refuses to pay more attention to these.
A few steps in and he found it weird how the normally noisy woman is now so silent. Trying to test the waters, he hopped over a fallen tree, one that he could have easily sidestepped, making sure to land roughly. This caused the navigator's nose to awkwardly collide on his head and his grip on her to ride higher.
"Hey! Watch it you brute!"
There it is.
"Ow! Nami!" That's the second bump the swordsman received today on his head.
"You're carrying precious cargo you know?! You should be more careful."
"Tsk." Yep. Shouldn't have bothered testing that.
Another stretch of silence.
"Ne Zoro, we're really off to face a Yonko huh?"
The navigator's voice broke the quiet. Which usually did not come as a surprise to Zoro, if not for the thoughtful tone to it and how it came as an almost whisper.
"Yeah, you guys faced one already didn't you?" replied Zoro, deciding to humour the navigator's suddenly serious mood lest he incur another bump on his head.
"Mmm, but this one's different, last time facing one was not the main mission, we tried our best to avoid her. Even so we barely got away with our lives." Nami gulped as she remembered Pedro. "This time we're actually facing one head on."
Zoro's head shifted to the side, his ear picking up the somber tone of the navigator.
"You're not thinking of backing out, are you?"
"Of course not! I mean, if we had a choice, why not? But we don't, don't we?" Nami came with a burst of spirit only to end with defeated frustration.
"Hm. Even if we do, you don't really believe we'd be choosing the alternative right?"
If there's one thing she has learned from all the time she had been in this crew, it's that they will always choose the dangerous option. Even if through some miracle they don't, it still ends up with them being dragged to the dangerous path either way. That's just how it is, even when it was just the three of them in Orange town and she's not official in the crew yet, at least to her belief. She'd hoped gaining more members would mean there'd be more rational voices in the crew. But no.
"No." She chuckled weakly.
"I just. Isn't all this happening too fast? I just thought we'd have some sort of a breather. Like how we were back then. After each island there's nothing to worry about other than to keep us floating until we get to the next where we don't know what awaits us. Now after Punk Hazard I can't really enjoy each island knowing what's waiting in the next would be some crazy strong enemy we'd have to defeat. Everything's just gotten so serious you know?" Nami ranted, feeling like a bratty child complaining but this has really been how things are.
Zoro took a moment to digest what the redhead behind him just released on him. Of course he knows. He knew this the moment he faced Kuma in Thriller bark. He definitely knew this is how the rest of their journey is going to have to be after what happened in Saboady. This is what he understood what Luffy realized too when he decided they shall meet in 2 years instead of right away after they got separated. They have come to a point in their journey where they have to pick a path and stick with it if they intend to get to the one piece. It's just unfortunate… or well, fortunate, depends on who in the crew you ask, that the best path is filled with 'crazy strong' enemies.
"Nami."
The navigator raised her head at that, confused at the sudden stern tone from the swordsman.
"Did you really expect anything less from us?"
"Huh?"
"You should've known this earlier."
Now she feels like a bratty child being scolded. She didn't like that.
"Our captain, he's all for fun mindless adventure, but what did he make sure everyone he meets know about him?"
Nami mulled at that. 'That he's stubborn? That he likes meat? No. Oh.'
"He's going to be the pirate king." She sighed. Of course. What did she expect from being a Strawhat anyway? Their captain is bound to be king of the pirates, of course there's no easy way to that. She knew this, it's just how crazy the way to get to it is something she's still reluctantly coming to terms with.
Zoro felt his message came across. "Our defeat in Saboady was our wake-up call. If we want to continue our journey towards our dreams then we have to be serious about it, because there are serious stuff out there bound to prevent us from doing so. So we'd have to fight for our way, no matter what or who the obstacle is. And we have to do it now, because these obstacles are not going to wait because we still want to have fun."
Nami can't help but stare at Zoro now. When did Zoro become so… wise?
"Besides, isn't this what we prepared for in those 2 years?"
"Well… yes, I prepared but mostly on navigating, maybe I added some tricks to my climatact but you can't really expect me to face the strength of a Yonko."
"Don't worry, I got you. I'll protect you."
Nami can't help but be taken aback by that. She knows this has been his role not just to her but to the entire crew. Despite this, she can't fight the warmth that started to creep on her cheeks. The intensity in the way he said it together with his grip tightening on her just caught her off guard.
Zoro noticed his passenger had suddenly become stiff on his back. Thinking back to what he just said, he realized how that must have sounded. Sappy.
Suddenly flustered, he blurted, "I meant I'll protect us!... The entire crew, I meant the entire crew! Not just you! Specifically!"
"Ow! Damn it Nami!"
The navigator decided the best way to diffuse the impending awkwardness was to do what they do best. Violence from her and the resulting banter that follows. She had just pulled the swordsman's ear.
"Of course I know that you baka." She chuckled, a smile blooming on her lips.
"Tsk." He pretended to be annoyed, but was thankful she didn't tease him for it. He remembered something then, causing a smirk on his lips.
"Hey, what are you worried about anyway? Luffy told me you landed a pretty solid attack on Big Mom. Seems like you got the whole facing the strength of a Yonko thing done."
Nami was once again taken aback, unable to help but smile at the thought of their captain proudly sharing what she did and be flattered at the hint of pride emanating from the swordsman.
"Well… yeah, but that was actually because of Zeus, and that didn't really do any damage to her."
She felt a squeeze from the hands supporting her thighs.
"Still, you did something and that counts. Keep doing what you do and you're fine, leave the rest to us."
Nami can't keep her stare off Zoro now, that warmth continuing to engulf her and she smiled. "Ah."
Zoro really didn't know where his words are coming from but he couldn't help what comes out of his mouth just to appease the woman.
Another stretch of silence. It was comfortable for a moment but after a while, the wringing of the hands that are crossed loosely in front of the swordsman's chest has given away the unresolved worries of the woman on his back.
He sighed. "What is it, Nami?"
"Huh?"
"There's still something on your mind."
The hand wringing stilled and he felt a puff of air on his nape.
"Ne, Zoro."
That was soft. Way too soft for Nami. And he can't describe it but that tone alone made his chest feel a bit tight. He held his breath as he turned his head slightly towards the navigator's voice, an indication that he heard her.
"You have to be careful as well you know."
He slowed down his steps, really not liking this somber tone on her.
"Heh. Is the witch worried about me now? Afraid you'll lose someone to hold debts to?" He tried to josh. He can handle an annoyed Nami, but this suddenly serious, melancholic Nami, he's not quite sure how to approach.
"Baka, of course I am!"
The sudden outburst together with the tightening of the arms around his shoulders stopped him in his tracks.
"I mean, sure I am worried about all of us, but I am most worried about you, you know?! You're so reckless, you're even worse than Luffy! That time in Thriller Bark? I don't know what you did but you sustaining those mysterious injuries and not waking up really scared me. Then we get separated and you come back after two years without your left eye? And now your new sword…" The navigator paused. "Look, I have no doubt you can handle that sword, you're Zoro after all but all I'm saying is just… just don't be too reckless."
The swordsman was silent for minute, taken aback by the tirade that just came from their navigator. There's no way he could try to tease her out of her mood right now, not with how heavy she's breathing now behind his back, like what she just said physically exerted her. He took some time to ruminate her words, he knows the woman worries. He didn't know she worries for him that much and he certainly didn't expect for her to voice them out. Although it's hard to see her this way, he'd be lying if he said knowing her concern for him didn't give a weird feeling on his stomach. Unfortunately, he couldn't bring himself to comfort his crewmate because what she's worried about is just the thing he does.
He released a deep breath. "What happens to me, the injuries I sustained in the past, I regret none of them."
"Of course you don't regret them, because you're still here! What if the next time what you lose is a limb so you can no longer wield a sword? Or worse…"
"Then that's what I deserved. If I'm not strong enough to protect myself, then that would mean that what I get as a result of my lack of strength is what I deserve."
"But-"
"Look, Nami. You are the navigator of our ship, you bring us to where we need to be, and not once have you failed us. Usopp is the sniper, Ero- kappa cooks, Chopper is our doctor, Robin is the one who reads the weird stones, Franky takes care of the ship, Brook brings the entertainment. Me, all I can offer is my strength to protect the crew. If I am unable to survive the injuries that I have sustained and will sustain in our journey, then I have no right taking the role of protecting you and I have no right to stand beside Luffy."
He stared off in the distance, he really has no intention of baring these thoughts to the woman on his back, not when they're sober and in the middle of nowhere, but it just flowed out of him. He has no choice after all, the woman is stubborn, brushing her worries off will not help. Even if her concern warms his insides in a way he can't describe making him want to comfort her in return, he can't really give her any assurance.
He was pulled from his thoughts by the long breath over his right neck and a warm palm tenderly placed over the scar on his left eye.
"Baka of course I know that. I've known you long enough to know that is how you think."
Goosebumps have started to arise on his arms and neck by her proximity and touch.
"Reckless brute who muscles his way out of everything."
Only to be halted by the insult that followed. He was about to retort when she continued.
"All I'm saying is, do you think we would be happy reaching our dreams if we get there at your expense? And no, I'm not saying you're not strong enough that we'd come to that point" He noticed her right hand tighten at this. "What I'm saying is, just maybe think of that too the next time you start thinking about doing something too reckless." He was about to retort again but Nami sensed this and the hand on his left eye left to pinch his cheek.
"Hey!-"
"I was there when you tried to saw off your legs in Little Garden, Zoro. That's what I mean when I say too reckless. Aaargh honestly! I know you're gonna be reckless anyway, but just don't be reckless and dumb at the same time! Also, worry about yourself too! Even us weak ones trained those past two years so we can somehow fend for ourselves and yes, I definitely need protecting still but you guys need to worry about yourselves too sometimes, and I know you guys will keep picking fights on-"
Before Nami can continue rambling, she was interrupted by Zoro taking the hand that just pinched his cheek. He enclosed it on his own, before resting both their hands on his chest, just above heart. The warmth of Zoro's hand on hers brought all her thoughts to a full stop as a she stiffened and a blush dusted her cheeks. Oh how grateful she is that he can't see her face now.
"I get it. I can't promise anything but I get it."
The navigator let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. Her body relaxing and her head unconsciously leaning unto his. Who knew this conversation would be tiring? But really, she's satisfied with that. This is Zoro after all and that coming from him is enough for her.
Sensing that his red headed companion has been satisfied with his answer, Zoro resumed to walk as they once again fell into comfortable silence. This time without Nami wringing her hands since one is preoccupied inside the swordsman's.
…
"Ano, Zoro…"
"What now, woman?"
"I was serious when I said you should be careful okay? We wouldn't want you losing another eye. You get lost even with both eyes intact, you're terrible now with just one. What would we do if you lose both?" She tried burying her concern with a joke, even if the thought of the possibility of that does frighten her.
"Woman I don't get lost! It's you guys who get lost!"
"Uh huh, sure, that's how it was all those times. Maybe that's also why we passed this fallen tree for the third time? It must be lost."
Zoro flinched. "Damn it!" He let go of Nami's hand to adjust his hold on her and stomped the other way. Nami tried to ignore how she missed the warmth of his hand on hers.
"Really though, you're beyond salvation 'mister I don't get lost', at this rate Luffy would've devoured all the dango by the time we got there." Which is not really a long amount of time, considering it's their captain. It just depends on how well Sanji holds the fort.
"Well it's your fault! You keep distracting me with your questions!"
Nami chuckled at that. "Sure, sure. Just head this way." She ordered, pointing towards a path. "Straight line Zoro, do you even know what that is?"
"Tsk. Damn it woman I'll drop you I swear!"
The navigator laughed harder at that.
Summary:In which the reader helps Sanji in overcoming his depression and ends up falling in her love
----------
The sky joined the sea to make a whole blue in the horizon. The night cold breezes started to blow, bringing a magnificent sea scent, Soon the night dashed and the moon light was dimmed by some grey moving clouds, leaving a faint radiance about as the moon light was glowing from the edges of the clouds. Some twinkling stars were hung up sparkling in the sky reflecting the thier brightness over the ocean that Sunny was sailing over. By midnight, all of the Strawhats left the deck diving to their own dream lands, except for the blonde gentleman who was viewing this scenery as he smokes and sips his black coffee.
Sure Sanji was an affirmative person who gladly cooks wonderful dishes in order to fill his crew mates tummies, but on these kind of sleepless nights like tonight, Sanji was haunted by his own insecurities. Of course, his captain and nakama saved him from his crule past and family and he's now much comfortable but these thoughts can't help but occupies his mind. He knew that his Namaka trust and believe in him, but his childhood trauma always brings back these insecurities to him of being usless and burnden to his friends, he glances over the horizon as the wind sways between his locks, remembering the man who saved his life and taught him to be himself, he would look over the sky and remembers the tenderness of his mother, the only person who adored his kind heart and treated him like a normal child.
He lowered his head lost in his thoughts, he feels that the lump grows bigger in his throat he wonders why his mind seeks to exaggerate things and force him to feel wistful, the tears suddenly started to form at the brim of his blue eyes, when he Suddenly felt someone's hand placed on his shoulders, he went back to his senses, turned his face to find you staring at him with concern, he was so drown into his thoughts that he haven't notice your presence, "Sanji...Whats wrong? Are you alright? Are you feeling unwell, shall i call Chopper?", You worriedly asked, he forced a smile trying to assure you that he's alright, " I'm fine (Y/N)~chan, but why are you still up?", He tried to change the topic away from him, but knowing him, you knew that he's bothered by something, maybe some unspoken thoughts or insecurities, after all you had that soft spot for him that made you aware to the meanings of his expressions, hmmm it wasn't just a soft spot, it was rather a crush that perhaps would turn into love day by day, but that's not the point now, seeing his painful expression hidden behind this fake grin is something that you didn't like, you wanted to comfort him.
You stood right next to him, it was close enough that your shoulder was slightly touching his arm, "I can't sleep, so i thought that could get some fresh air", you claimed as he hummed in response taking another sip from his coffee, "Sanji...you can always speak to me if want, I'm always ready to listen to you", you smiled at him, " what do you mean (Y/N)~chwan?" He questioned, " Calm nights like these always pulls people to their dark side thoughts, but sharing these thoughts with someone else would make you at ease", you replied, he stayed silent for a while, you didn't mind waiting for him to speak up, if he would speak up, let him take as much time as he want if that would help make him comfortable. He abruptly spoke up, "its just that I don't want to bother you or ruin your mood in middle of night-", " Sanji...its fine please talk to me, I would love to listen", you ressured him. Soon he start speaking slowly about his concerns, insecurities, and fears, he was hesitant at first, however he slowly got much comfortable and began to let Everything burst out with over flowing emotions.
You didn't intervene nor stopped him from talking, you were relieved that he's not enduring these thoughts inside himself anymore. You were able to notice how reddish his eye looked as the tears began to form in them, he stopped talking once he felt that his vision is getting blurry, he didn't want you see him as weak person, men don't shed tears, thats what he thought to himself. You placed your arms around his neck and pulled him into your embrace and gently stroked his hair, Sanji was surprised at your action to the point that he was looking at you with his eyes wide open, " Sanji, its fine, you can cry, don't hold them inside of you, its not good to keep them to yourself, it will just make you more sorrowful, please let them out" you said with an affectionate tone, he can clearly feel that his heart would leap out of his chest in any second, what is this feeling? why does his heart beat increases?, he never felt like this before, you were warm and your scent brought peace to him, was it because he got sentimental? he never knew, but he knew for sure that he can get rid of all of his insecurities if he cried on your shoulders now.
Slowly he buried his face in your shoulders and began to silently sob, you continued stroking his hair, patting on his back and whispering kind words and assuring him that everything is going to be alright. After taking out whats inside him, he finally looked at you, eyes are swollen, now you placed your hands on his shoulders and looked strightly into his eyes, " Its not a crime to cry, if you cried , that doesn't mean that you're weak , sometimes crying helps us overcome our obstacles as it makes us stronger, never hold it inside of you again, okay?if you ever needed someone to hear you out, I'll be here okay?", You said, His face lightened up, and he nodded with the purest smile you have ever seen, you swear that if it wasn't dark , he would have noticed your blushed cheeks. At this point, you realized that you have more than a crush over him, yes , you totally fell for him, you thought that his kind suave heart needs love and protection.
The next morning, you woked up lazily from the bed, took a shower and you head to the kitchen to feed your nosiy tummy with Sanji's delicious breakfast, as soon as you entered, his eyes fell on you, and god he froze in his place with his face as red as cherries, "G-G...Good Morning (Y/N)~chwan" he suttered, you muffled a giggle at how red his face was, then he moved to continue preparing some smoothies for You, Nami and Robin. Soon he came back to the three of you lowering the tray offering the smoothies, he gave it to the two girls first and came to you, you smiled to him once again thanking him for the drink, and boy he was a mess, his heart skipped a beat and he almost dropped the tray on you catching it last minute, he apologized telling you that he tripped over himself and then excused the three of you . Nami and Robin noticed that immediately, once you developed a crush over him back in time, you told the girls about it, so, they were totally aware that you have feelings for Sanji, and according to Sanji's action few minutes ago, they suspected that he's having a crush over you but he's not aware of it, " Did you see his face (Y/N)?, I think soon, the two of you will have mutual feelings" giggled Nami, you Slightly blushed at her words recalling the way you hugged him yesterday.
Days have passed, and Sanji was really obvious with his crush for you, he couldn't contain his blushes, he suttered more often while he speaks with you, if you dashed him a smile, you could see the blood dripping from his nose, it was a cute new side of him, you saw him swooning over ladies most often, but this side was so new and appealing. That day, Sunny docked by a new island, it was quite a small island, Since Sanji loved to see you all smiley he decided to go through the market and buy you something, so after buying the needs for the ship, he stopped by a small shop that sells lotion creams, he was reminded by your choppy hands due to weather change in the ocean, so he bought one pocket strawberry flavoured lotion cream for you, he also bought another two lotions but with different scents for Nami and Robin, and came back to the ship.
The three of you were sitting on the deck chatting together when he approached you and handed the bag of lotions, " My ladies, i passed by shop while getting the needs and thought of buying these for you", said Sanji, Robin took the bag while you and Nami came closer to her to see what's inside, "Ara... That's so nice of you Sanji" claimed Robin as she smiles, Nami thanked him as well, on the other hand you were surprised yet touched, he actually noticed your choppy palms, and more than that your lotion was different than the one he bought for Nami and Robin, He looked at you then spoked as he placed his hands on the nape of his neck, " (Y/N)~chwan, I bought the strawberry flavoured lotion for you because you love strawberries so much and I-", he didn't even manage to complete what was he saying as you unintentionally jumped to hug him staggering him from his place, " Thank you so much Sanji, I will absolutely use it everyday", soon you realized what you have did, and immediately backed off, " I- I'm sorry" as your cheeks flushed in red, the blonde was red as a madman as well, he placed his hand on his chest trying to clam his heart that is about to leap out of his chest, "IT'S...IT'S FINE (Y/N)~CHAN, if-if you excuse me ladies" he said as he ran towards the boys room as fast as he can closing the door behind him, Nami sighed as she said, "Mattaku...he's such an air head isn't he?", And Robin giggled at the scene.
In the men room, Sanji stood behind the door, somehow relieved that no one of the men are there, especially a certain moss head, he muttered to himself, "Damnit! whats wrong with me these days?!", as his fingers clenched on his suit " should i do a checkup with chopper?" He asked. He suddenly snapped out remembering that he saw something similar somewhere, "Oh, that's right!! My locker!!" He exclaimed and he ran towards his locker, he searched between his well organized clothes and then the shelf underneath it, he finally found what he was looking for. Yes that's right it was his favorite Romance Manga book that he secretly likes to read at night before he sleeps, he grabbed it and ruffled between its pages, and stopped when he founded that certain page he was looking for, he carefully read it again and again analyzing it in his head, the hero's heart always skipped a beat everytime he sees the heroine, he always can't control his emotions when the heroine smiles, cries and so on and eventually he found out that he's in love with her, wait......thats what happening to him too "WHAAAAT!!" Yelped Sanji, coveing his mouth at the sudden shout , " So I have feelings for (Y/N)~chan?!! No way...." He thought feeling the heat reaching his cheeks turning them to red.
Suddenly he heard a knock on the door, appearntly, Nami and Robin left for a walk, so it was just the two of you on Sunny, "Sanji ? Is there something wrong?", damnit, she must have heard him yelping, before he could answer, you spoke again, but this time with a much calmer tone as you leaned on the door with slight frown on your face, " I'm sorry for making you uncomfortable earlier, I didn't-", Suddenly the door was fully opened with Sanji standing infront of you ,eyes wide open, "NO...No (Y/N)~chan, you did nothing wrong, its not your fault, the problem is me, I'm Freaking madly in love with you and I don't know how to deal with my stupid heart", oh dran it! he just realized that he confessed his feelings mistakenly, You froze in your place not seeing that coming, " You're..in love ...with me?", you questioned making sure that you're not hearing things. You both stared at each other like this for few more seconds when you took the first step, you came closer, pulled him by his neck tie and closed those few inches between the two of you in warm passionate kiss, it was meant to be quick, so you parted and looked in his eyes without saying a word, "(Y/N)~chan...." He called, "Do you have feelings for me as well?", He continued, " Yes, for quite a while, I'm glad that i didn't give up" you said as you muffled a giggle, he pulled you inside the boys room closed the door, and gently pinned you in the wall, he studied your features, and soon his hands moved to cover your jaw and neck while your hair strands chained between his fingers, he titled his head and leaned closer, he placed his lips over yours in another tender kiss, but this time it was longer and deeper, waving with your emotions, yes..you both fell in Luv💕
The End.
