Christmas tree hunting with Zoro 🎄
Summary: When you and Zoro are tasked with hunting down a Christmas tree for the Sunny, the privacy of the forest and your respective feelings for each other lead to a romantic conclusion. ~2k words. CW: Fluff. G/N language. Kissing.
Artwork by @hirakyun13 (thank you for collabing with me!)
A Christmas tree for the Sunny. A task easier said than done.
The cold that day was bitter and scathing—the second you walked outside, you could see your breath float away in warm plumes. It was mid-afternoon and snowing softly.
Somehow, you and Zoro ended up in this chore together. He huffed and rolled his eyes when he heard that you were going to accompany him—it sounded like the rest of the crew very deliberately opted out of joining. More matchmaking on their behalf.
While your strength (in his mind) left much to be desired, and it sounded like he was going to have to chop down and carry the tree by himself, he wondered if the quiet isolation of the forest you would soon enter together would offer a moment of opportunity.
It had been months at this point. Everyone on the crew had asked him at least once what was going on between you two. He played dumb, but after so many moments of interrogation by his crewmates, he put the pieces together—everyone saw something.
It wasn’t too long after you joined the crew that it became common knowledge that Zoro liked you. After so much time, he started to suspect that his feelings (muddled and painful as they were) were reciprocated. At least, with Nami and Robin’s encouragement, he came to that conclusion.
The excuse of having to spend time with you while hunting for a Christmas tree was a nice one. He didn’t have to go out of his way to be near you this time. And the lingering touches, flashing eyes, and warm smiles of the past few days spurred him on—maybe in the loneliness of the forest he would be able to confess. And if not confess, he’d say something. He just couldn’t keep it in any longer.
Before he headed out, he looked at himself in the mirror and told himself to get a grip. He may have been a strong and fearsome swordsman, with almost unrivaled strength, but he was surprisingly sweet and soft inside, once you got past that hard and sullen exterior—one of his favorite things about you, and the first thing to make him pause and wonder about you, was that you recognized that in him almost immediately.
Before the pair of you started your expedition to find a tree, Luffy enthusiastically gave you a description of the ideal tree he had in mind. “Find a nice BIG one! Ten feet tall with one thousand branches!!!” He enthusiastically waved you and Zoro off the ship as you tried not to slip down the gangplank, which was quickly piling up snow.
It was freezing outside, and the ground would have been icier if not for the thick layer of snow sitting atop it. There was a large forest adjacent to the coast, and you began your journey inwards, with an axe each and a net to wrap the tree in.
Every step from you or the swordsman was met with the soft, crunching sound of snow underneath. When you escaped the sound of the waves on the coast, the silence of the forest was almost oppressive. You could hear the crunching sounds, your own breathing, the occasional twig snapping underfoot, and the muted sound of snow falling in tiny clumps around you.
Something about it felt surreal. The forest was so picturesque and peaceful that even the most winter-averse person would have appreciated the scene before with reverence.
You held back the urge to small talk because you knew it wasn’t Zoro’s favorite (ever the stoic). And while you trudged forward in the deepening snow, leading the way, Zoro observed from behind.
You were bundled up, with a nice, thick coat, gloves, a cute scarf, and a hat. Something about you being so wrapped up and cozy made his heart flip. Any time you turned around to see if he was still following, he saw that your cheeks were pink and flushed—the sight was cute. A word he had never even thought about using before he met you.
About half of a mile in, the trees looked adequate. More than tall enough for the Sunny. Besides, where the hell was Luffy going to put this thing? On the deck, presumably? Or maybe by the fish tank? Did the crew even have ornaments?
You stopped and looked up at a tree that looked promising. It had a thick trunk and voluminous, dark green boughs that were covered in a white layer of snow.
“Zoro,” you called him out of his stupor of thought. “What do you think of this one?”
He caught up and took time to study the tree in question. You, in turn, took time to study his face. Chiseled and pretty, with a lethal side-profile. Nice long eyelashes (not fair), tousled green hair, wrapped up all cute in his scarf and coat almost like a present. Fuck. You could stare at him for hours.
When his eyes snapped to yours, you inadvertently blushed.
“Not tall enough.” He grunted out, shortly. “Captain said ten feet.”
“Zoro, for real? You really think he meant ten whole feet?” You were semi-incredulous. He nodded in reply and forged ahead of you.
Another two miles into the forest presented Zoro trees that satisfied him. “There,” he pointed at one that was impressively massive. “That’s the one. Ten whole feet.”
Sheesh. What now?”
Zoro raised an eyebrow. “Now we cut it down.”
The axe in your hand felt weird and heavy, and as you stood there, Zoro crouched down to get to work. It was unspoken, but you both knew that Zoro was going to do all the work here. You weren’t sure why you were even there. It would be a piece of cake for this man to get the tree chopped and carried back to the ship by himself. But for some reason the rest of the crew insisted you accompany him.
“Do you want some help?” You offered, crouching near him and looking at the thick trunk. He took a second to shake his head.
“The chopping part isn’t really a two-person job anyway. You can help me carry it.”
So, you waited a moment. Zoro cut the trunk with (unsurprising) swiftness, and it toppled over.
“C’mere.” He motioned to you, and you started to help him wrap the net you brought around the tree, pulling its branches inwards to protect them and make it easier to lug around.
When the net was completed, Zoro paused and looked at you. “You gonna help me lift this thing? Or do you want to sit this part out?”
“I’ll help,” you nodded, and the swordsman cracked a wry smile.
“If you say so, but you don’t have to. Obviously, I can lift it by myself.” The sweetness you were familiar with slipped out and started to take over his face.
Your willingness, or rather, confidence, to help was quickly tarnished. As you bent your knees and started to lift the tree in time with Zoro, you realized that first, it was way too damn heavy, and second, the ground right underneath this ridiculously large tree was icy, because the boughs blocked any extra snow coverage, which for you could only mean one thing…
You barely lifted the tree up before you slipped on the ice underneath. You fell down, so embarrassingly ungraceful, and face-planted right into the tree that you had just been trying to lift. As you went down, arms waving around as you tried to catch yourself, catch your balance, catch something, your scarf fell off and you let out a comical yelling/gasping noise.
Thankfully you didn’t get too hurt. There would be bruises, though. Ouch.
Zoro stifled a laugh without much success. You just looked too cute falling like that, a clumsy moment even though you were genuinely trying your best. He decided to blame it on the ice (and himself) instead of poke fun at you for it.
When you came to a rest after your fall, you just sat there for a moment. You frowned and let out a “Fuck.”
Zoro clapped the snow off his hands and rounded the tree to come to your aid.
He helped you to your feet, and picked up your scarf from where it was resting in the snow. Reflexively, he bent forward and placed it on you carefully, wrapping it around you like it had been before. He straightened out your hat, which was also askew. And when he was done setting you right, he paused and turned bright red.
He hadn’t realized how intimate that had been, especially because his face was maybe a foot away from you now, and you were blushing, silent, and just looking at him. The seconds felt like ages.
Zoro studied your face for a second, noticing how snowflakes piled on your lashes, how rosy your cheeks were, and how your irises reflected some of the bright white that lay all around.
“Thanks, Zoro,” you smiled at him, and his heart did a flip. It flipped again when he realized that he was just standing there staring at you, painfully close to your pretty face. Your eyes flitted from his eyes to his lips and back up. Zoro noticed. It felt like all the oxygen in a 10-ft radius evaporated.
Something stirred inside of him, and he finally realized that Nami and Robin hadn’t been lying to him. In this peaceful forest, the noise of the Sunny and the noise in his head went quiet enough for him to hear the affection in your voice and see the love in your eyes plain as day.
He knew that what he was about to do was the right choice. He saw that Nami and Robin—and everyone else who had told him they saw something between you two—were right.
Zoro leaned in and you went rigid. It looked like he was about to kiss you.
The handsome swordsman was getting dangerously close to your lips. You held your breath as he closed his unscarred eye, and his gloved hand came up to your cheek. In tandem, though neither of you said the words out loud, you thought the same thing—fuck. Are we really going to kiss?
You were.
Zoro’s lips met yours in a brief, gentle (if not clumsy) kiss.
You were unbelievably caught off guard. So, Nami and Robin really weren’t exaggerating all along, you thought as he kissed you gently.
When he pulled away, he immediately apologized. “Fuck, sorry. I should have asked before.”
“Took you long enough.” You watched his face change from an expression of embarrassment to one of surprise. His cheeks reddened and his eyes widened.
“Took me long enough?”
You nodded in reply. Zoro hesitated and then leaned in again, pressing his lips on yours. His kisses were delicate and, to your surprise, loving.
Minutes later and Zoro pulled away again. Wordlessly, he kissed your forehead and went back to lifting the tree up.
Some soft grunts from his accompanied the huge tree being set on his shoulder effortlessly. He held onto its stump.
“Well, now that that’s sorted, let’s get this thing out of here.” He cocked his head and smirked, nonchalant and smooth. “Later, after the tree is all set up and we eat dinner, let’s sneak away somewhere and keep going. Deal?”
You gladly assented, butterflies fluttering in your stomach and your cheeks maintaining the shade of red they had been for the past while.
The walk back to the Sunny was a peaceful one. Every few minutes you’d look at him, and when he caught your eyes, he would smile with such charming, almost uncharacteristic sweetness—the sweetness that you saw all along was full-fledged.
Of course, back at the ship, the change in both of you was far too obvious. You were met with claps on the back and exclamations of FINALLY!” all around. The tree was adequate to Luffy’s liking and, as promised, you and Zoro continued your rendezvous in some place quiet and secluded, making up for lost time.

zoro x mihawk daughter! reader 👁️👁️
⛥゚・。 nurse
synopsis: a mysterious man crash lands on your gloomy island, and you patch him up... unaware of his odd relationship with your father.
cw: part 1/3, fluffy fluff, comfort, zoro is a lovable idiot, reader's a bit soft spoken, reader is FIONE, i imagine she dresses like morticia addams but its not explicitly described, mihawk clocks zoro's tea a lil bit
a/n: what i would give to bandage this man up myself
"Never thought I'd see the day..." you sighed, grabbing a vase of water off the end table.
The sound of clanking and pouring echoed throughout the room, slowly waking the swordsman up.
"A man on this island..."
Zoro fluttered his eyes open, the golden rays of morning light ushering him back to the land of the living.
'I'm... alive? ...But where am I?'
"Morning," you greeted, softly, a warm smile on your face as you approached the bed. "You scared me for a moment. With the rough shape you landed in, I thought you were dead for sure."
Suddenly, his eyes shot wide, memories from Sabaody all rushing back.
Pacifistas.
Sentomaru.
Kizaru.
The crew.
Now fully awake, he greeted the world with a deafening yell, you letting out an equally loud shriek of surprise.
And, in your fear, you dropped the entire vase and fell backward, too occupied with trying to back away from the screaming man.
Hearing the commotion, Zoro shut up, weakly turning to see its source.
You had managed to retreat into the shadows, hiding yourself from the intruder.
"Who are you?" he asked, sharply, eyes zeroed in on your silhouette. "Where am I? And why are you here?"
"I could ask you he same..." you replied, warily. "And don't scream like that again. You're not dying, I made sure of that."
Painfully, he swung his feet over the edge of the bed, letting out a few winces and curses as he attempted to stand up.
He was missing a familiar weight on his hip.
"What did you do with my swords?!" he barked.
"I'm keeping them hidden until I can ensure you're not a threat."
Brows furrowed deeply, Zoro grit his teeth, thoroughly pissed.
"I'm warning you..." he stood on shaky legs, attempting to step forward, only to fall on his knees.
Guilty, you let out a sigh, suddenly feeling sorry for his poor shape.
"Sir, please, get back in bed. You'll re-open your wounds," you sighed, imploringly, moving forward to help him up.
Annoyed, Zoro scanned the area, eyes landing on your figure as you emerged from the shadows, widening at the sight as your hips swayed side to side.
Long, (h/c) hair...
Plump lips...
Heavenly curves, made evident by your long, black dress...
Smooth brown skin...
Alluring, (e/c) eyes....
Goddamn.
'Curlybrow'd lose his mind...'
You were dripping in beauty and mystery.
Zoro, so mesmerized, didn't even realize that you'd already cruised your way over, and were now standing directly in front of him, helping him up.
"I found you laying in a crater in the woods, unconscious," you explained, pulling him back to the bed. "You looked two steps from death's door... so I brought you back here, and tried to fix you up the best I could."
It was almost funny.
You had little to no medical knowledge at all, so majority of the first few days was spent teaching yourself how to do it all.
With a smile, you sat him down, "I'm glad to see you're alright."
But Zoro didn't register a single word.
He couldn't help but allow his mind to drift to the way your lips moved, enunciating each syllable so smoothly.
Though, when he realized you'd stopped speaking, his eyes found yours, an embarrassed glow rising to his cheeks.
"I... uh... can you repeat that?" he replied, bluntly.
This was the first time he was talking to you, and he wasn't even paying attention.
It was easy to say you were a little irked.
"I'll get you your swords," you sighed, flatly, giving up on any hope of conversation as you turned around to exit the room.
Without giving him a chance to speak, you walked away, hair swishing across your back as you moved.
Zoro, on the other hand, still sat there, more flustered than he'd been in a long time.
He thought back to how close your body was to his, your breast slightly rubbing against his back as you helped him up.
Watching you strut out the room, his gaze drifted to your backside, internally cursing himself for being so pervy.
Something about you flipped a switch in him—be it your mystery or your unspoken grace—and he had never found himself so entranced and intrigued in all his life.
And all you did was talk to him.
'The hell's wrong with me?'
This was the type of behavior one expected from Sanji or Brook.
Not him.
Not the cool-headed swordsman.
Not the Roronoa Zoro.
Hand rising to his face, he roughly shook his head, snapping himself out of it.
"I gotta get the hell out of here..."
"Father, please, I—"
"Not only did you bring an unknown man into our home while I was away..." Mihawk started, tone sharp as he cut you off.
You flinched, instantly piping down as you took a step back, hanging your head.
He hadn't taken such a tone with you since your teen years.
"But you nursed him back to health... and returned him his weapons before confirming that he was of no threat."
Hearing it laid out like that, you sounded stupid.
But in the moment, you swore that Zoro meant you no harm, your observation haki not sensing any malice or ill-intent even when he was yelling at you.
"He's not unknown to you, Father, you've met him before," you attempted to plead your case, albeit quietly. "And from what you've said about him, he's perfectly honorable. He wouldn't have hurt me."
"You didn't know that," he corrected, brows furrowed. "For all you knew, he could've slit your throat the moment you lost sight of him."
"That's a little extreme..."
"That's the world."
After returning Zoro's swords, you left to go make him something to eat, but returned to find that he had escaped.
Frantic, you searched the castle for hours, combing through every nook and cranny in an attempt to find the swordsman.
But, of course, it would be your luck that your father would find him upon arrival—somehow he had found his way through the woods and to the ruins where he attempted to fight off some of your monkey friends.
Safe to say, when your father finally arrived home, he was less than pleased.
Even still, you patched up the swordsman once again, unable to leave him in such a precarious state.
"Father, please try to understand. I was only trying to—"
You stopped in your tracks, both you and the warlord sensing a new presence.
And, like clockwork, the man of the hour weakly pushed open the door, heaving, as he seemed to be struggling to keep himself upright.
Worried, your brows furrowed, concerned for his health.
"What are you doing out of bed?" you asked, softly, "You're hurt... bad."
But Zoro pressed forward, using the sheaths of his swords as walking sticks as he approached your father.
"You shouldn't be walking in this condition... you can barely stan"
Suddenly, he dropped to his knees, bowing his head before his arch rival, much to your surprise.
"Will you... train me as a swordsman?" Zoro asked, fervently, pressing his forehead into the stone floor.
He'd managed to take a look at the News Coo you left on the end table, discovering Luffy's message to reunite in two years.
Which meant that the whole crew would have to get significantly stronger if they wanted any hope of surviving in the New World.
Him included.
"You disappoint me," Mihawk stated, brows furrowed. "Stand up."
He turned away from the sight, annoyance dripping from his tone.
"I can't believe you would ask your enemy for instruction... Have you no shame?"
He rolled his eyes, swirling around his wine glass.
"Get out of here. This is pathetic," he scoffed. "A pity, perhaps, but I overestimated your worth."
'Father...'
You felt bad about his harsh words, not wanting him to kick a man while he was down.
But the swordsman didn't budge, remaining in his exact position without fault.
"I said stand up... you're making a fool of yourself."
"Please help me!" Zoro tried once again, not moving an inch.
"First of all, the baboons beat you... and even after that, you couldn't make it to sea," Mihawk shrugged, taking a sip of his wine. "I can't help you. It's hopeless."
"They didn't beat me."
The two of you froze for a moment, shocked.
'No way... did he really?'
"You're the only one left to take down... but, I'm just not good enough to win against you the way I am now. Anybody can see that."
"I don't follow," Mihawk stated. "Clearly, you still consider me your enemy, yet here you are bowing down, begging for my help."
Zoro lifted his head, his expression one only attributed to a man on a mission.
"What do you mean to do?"
The swordsman's glare sharpened, not a doubt in his mind.
"Kill you, of course."
With that, your father let out an amused laugh, a rare smile cracking on his lips.
"You admit you want to kill me, and you expect me to assist you in that?" he asked, knowingly. "You're strange. What a ridiculous request. Aren't you the least bit embarrassed?"
Though he was quick to reel it in, a new question popping into his mind.
"Perhaps... your priorities are different now, Roronoa?"
Zoro's breath hitched at the insinuation, slightly surprised by his perceptiveness.
"(y/n)..." you father turned to you by his side. "Tend to his injuries."
(y/n).
'So, that's her name...'
It was oddly fitting.
With a quiet nod, you stepped forward, silently heading toward the door.
"We start your training once you've recovered."
At that, Zoro's face lit up, gratefully.
It was finally time to get stronger.
Throughout the entire two years, he poured his blood, sweat, and tears into his training, working diligently to become the reliable swordsman Luffy knew him to be.
But, little did he know, those two years would bring him ever closer to you, as well, as you acted as his personal nurse and cheerleader on the sidelines.
You two would become inseparable, spending your days together as you watched him train, cooked him dinner, did his laundry.
Your presence and company became as constant as he air he breathed.
So, when the day finally came for him to depart, it was safe to say that both sides had a particularly hard time letting go...
To be continued.
