This is a work of fiction. The story, names, characters and incidents either are product or the author’s imagination or are used fictitiously. Any resemblance to actual events or locales or persons, living or dead, is entirely coincidental.
You had it coming for a while, you knew it in the back of your mind. And it’s not like you weren’t looking forward to it, but just that the urges, that were slowly growing stronger for Lando, inside of you took a backseat as real world deadlines threatened to overcome you.
Lando had been staying home a lot more than usual, and found himself with a rare two-week break between races, a welcome pause in the relentless pace of the Formula 1 calendar. After months of high-pressure performances and grueling travel schedules, the weariness has started to catch up with him, coupled with the need to be with you and make up for the lost time, due to his hectic schedule, caused him to not want to leave the house.
Coming back from work every evening, you were greeted with the sight of him whipping up something simple but delicious for you to feast on, his eyes getting all crinkled up as a smile covered his face whenever he heard you yell “I'm home!”. He was playing the part of a perfect boyfriend to the T and you really couldn’t have been more thankful for everything that he was doing for you, even though you couldn’t always say it out loud.
But behind his loving exterior was something he wasn’t really telling you, for fear of coming across as selfish when he could clearly see the amount of stress you were already in. You weren’t blind though and just like him, you too could see that he was in need of some affection and some attention, was in need of someone telling him he did well on the circuit and was still doing well at home, and you also knew you were that someone.
You could feel it in his touch, lingering just a second longer than necessary, his fingers dipping under the hem of your shirt to rest against your skin. You could feel it in his kisses, turning hot and fervent despite starting out as soft and gentle. You knew he needed it and you knew he wasn’t going to be explicit enough and say it out loud nor was he going to pressure you into doing something you didn’t have the energy to do.
Yet upon hearing the slow pitter-patter of water as you came back home, you had found your feet leading you towards the bathroom, your heart picking up its pace at the thought of Lando taking a shower. The bathroom door unlocked as always, his steamy silhouette could be seen through the glass wall. You couldn’t tell what came over you in that moment, but before you could stop yourself, your hands were moving on their own, getting rid of your clothing piece by piece, until you were naked.
Your hand came resting against the glass as you peeked inside, taking in the sight in front of you. Lando looks gorgeous, the water trickling down his body and hugging him at all the right places, his shoulders and hipbones, making you want to lick the wetness away. The sight alone is enough to make you press your legs closer together, a need growing inside of you as you take your time admiring the beauty that is your boyfriend.
Lando had his head under the water, his wet curls sticking to his forehead and the side of his face, his mouth slightly parted to let the warm water hit his tongue as he was lost in thought. And to say that he was beyond surprised when he opened his eyes and found you on the other side of the glass, naked and looking nothing but breathtaking to him, would be an understatement. A groan escapes his lips under his breath as he stares at you, his eyes trailing down, taking in your completely naked body and swallowing thickly, a hunger rising in him, just looking at you.
That is, until a voice snaps you out of your thoughts, your eyes meeting Lando’s as he calls you out.
“Baby?” He murmurs, his voice sounding low as the water still hitting his face causes his words to come out muffled, but you could still hear that his tone was filled with need and anticipation. His left hand moves from where it was against the wall to press against the glass, his eyes meeting yours. There’s a silent conversation happening between you within just that moment, his eyes full of want, making his desire for you clear.
"I'm home" you say in a soft murmur.
“Yeah I can see that..” Lando mutters, his eyes still glued to you through the glass, his mouth going dry as his eyes rake you up and down, taking in every inch of you as if it was the first time he was seeing you like that. He was trying to focus hard on not letting his eyes linger between your legs, because the thought of it already has his brain short circuit.
“You want to join me in here?” He questions, his fingers tapping the glass lightly, giving a small smirk.
Lando can’t fight the grin that appears on his face as you nod, his mind already racing over what the two of you would do. He grabs the shower glass and pushes it open, his arms spreading out towards you as a silent invitation for you to come inside. He can’t wait to touch you again, to feel your skin against his, to hear your soft moans, but even amidst all of that he still has a tiny voice inside his head reminding him that you’re probably tired.
Lando closes the glass door back when you make your way inside, and all it takes is a couple of seconds for him to pull you into his chest against his wet, warm body, his strong arms wrapping around you gently. He lets out a sigh, his shoulders slumping slightly as he buries his face into your neck, the stress melting away from him just from having you close. His hands move up and down against your wet back, the water trickling between you.
He can tell what you’re planning and while it is something he’s been craving all these past days or weeks, now that you were right in front of him, he feels as if just having you so close to him is enough. And so he decides to show you, placing the softest of kisses to your crown as his grip tightens around your waist, the sensation making you lift your head up from his chest, a smile on your face.
“You are so beautiful.” Lando whispers and that’s all you need to lose your footing.
Before either of you can realize, your lips are moving in sync with his, a rhythm both familiar and new, being set up as you dance around your desires. You don’t know who started it, but it’s not like it matters anyway. All you can think of in that moment is the way his tongue explores every inch of your mouth, his teeth digging into your bottom lip as you get lost in the love only he can give you. And it’s the same for Lando, his senses getting overwhelmed as he finds himself getting high on you, on the way you make him feel. You’re all he could ever want and more, and every time you touch him, it feels like you’re reminding him of the reason he’s alive.
So he takes it in his stride, finally letting go of his fears and his worries, completely losing himself in you, in the love he feels for you. His hands roam all over your water-covered body, from your cheeks to your neck to your breasts and hips, and he takes his sweet time caressing and feeling every single one of them, just like you do too, your own hands lying pressed flat against his toned body. You touch him everywhere, letting your focus shift from his hair to his biceps to the round cheeks of his ass, and as you do so, you also find yourself pulling away from his lips, kissing down his body, crouching lower and lower till you’re on your knees in front of him.
The sight makes something turn on inside of Lando’s brain, his hands making their way to your cheeks again. But this time, he’s just a little more assertive, pulling you closer to his crotch, because he can tell you already have eyes for his cock.
“Want a taste?” he asks, his voice hoarse already and a lazy smirk playing on his lips. You can only nod at that, biting your lip as you lean in, placing a kiss to his tip. And from the sigh that escapes from Lando’s mouth at the small gesture, you know it’s just like the first time for him, over and over again.
“Then suck on it, baby.” his voice calls out again, pulling you out of your thoughts.
With that, your hands are quick to get wrapped around his shaft as you take him into your mouth, making him throw his head back in the slightest of pleasure. As your tongue begins to roll around his head, you make sure to savor the heavenly taste of his finest delicacy, your teeth grazing against his flesh as you decide to make up for the time and the rounds you’ve lost out on.
His tip was already leaking, his body eagerly reacting to your touch, the anticipation building within him. He swallowed, his words caught in his throat, all he could do was let out a groan in response. His hips instinctively moved forward, pushing his cock further into your mouth, his body seeking more pleasure, more of you. He was powerless to the sensations coursing through him, every swipe of your tongue sending a jolt of pleasure through him.
"More," he found himself whispering, his voice rough "I want you to swirl your tongue around the tip, take it into your mouth, then-" he whispered, his eyes flicking down to you, the intensity in his gaze burning with need "Push your tongue into the slit, please.”
Lando's body tensed, a low groan escaping him as you did as he asked, his eyes falling shut, his face flushed, his jaw clenched in an effort to hold back.
"Good girl," he groaned, his words husky, his voice filled with appreciation and a hint of dominance.
Lando's eyes fluttered shut, a low moan escaping him as your free hand found his balls. His body tensed, his fingers gripping your hair a little tighter, his hips instinctively pushing forward in a shallow thrust.
"That's right," he growled, his voice filled with need, his words a husky rasp as he tried to control himself, his body trembling.
As you pick up the pace, your surroundings fade away, the sound of the water acting as background music while you continue to give head to Lando, enjoying the effect you have on him. His hands guide you along, resting at your head, as your own take to worship his cock, your cheeks hollowed out to the max. Maybe it’s the lack of touch that he’s been forced to go through for the past weeks, or maybe it’s the way you seem so determined on bringing him to his knees, but Lando can’t seem to control the urge to cum right then and there, his body involuntarily thrusting his dick right down your throat and making you choke.
“Go faster, please.” he groans, pretty sounds emanating from deep inside his chest as you oblige, going faster and harder as you begin deepthroating him. Countdown from ten in your head and that’s all you need to have him lose it, his seed seeping into your mouth as you lap every bit up. He tastes just as you remember or maybe even better because it’s been so long. As the last drops trickle down your throat, you let out a sigh of satisfaction, licking your lips before gripping his thighs to pull yourself back up.
Your eyes meet his and you don’t miss the way he smiles at you, and you can’t help but ask, “Was I good?” and make him chuckle at your cuteness.
“Incredible as always, love.” Lando says, leaning in to catch your lips in another kiss, his body weight pushing you flat against the glass wall. Maybe it’s you imagining things, but he somehow tastes even sweeter now, the aftertaste of his cum still fresh on your tongue as you make out with him once more. Parting your mouth open with his own tongue, he doesn’t leave a single spot untouched as his cock prods around your heat, silently seeking entrance.
And you’re only too keen on granting him that, a whimper making its way out of you as you wrap your arms around his neck, pulling him closer than closer.
“I n- need you..” you whine, kissing him harder as you feel yourself grow more needy by the second. Lucky for you though, your boyfriend is a great listener, listening to your demand as he thrusts himself into you, penetrating into your pussy at long last. He feels so delicious like that, moving in and out of you as your thighs squeeze around his, your walls tightening around his length as he fills you up with himself.
You’re a moaning, struggling mess within seconds, the water making everything foggy and slippery as he continues to thrust in you, massaging all the right places you didn’t even know existed inside of you up until you started dating. Every move of his hips, as they roll against yours, sends you into a frenzy, gibberish rolling off your tongue as he starts speeding up more and more. Your bodies mold into one as you claw at each other’s skin, wanting to be as close to the other as possible. You’re in bliss at that moment, the pent up stress from work and the sexual frustration finally coming to the fore and bursting like a bubble as you make love.
He cums first, his cock still sensitive from your lip-service as his load fills you up to the brim, his thrusts not stopping as he leads you to your own orgasm. It feels like an eternity and like a single second at the same time, your sense of being completely distorted as you focus only on the pleasure, your nails digging into the skin of his back as he pumps into you one last time, making you ride out your climax in style and leaving you panting for air.
As a new slew of moans racks through your body, he vows to drown them out in a kiss with his hands holding you in place. When he pulls away, the expression on his face is the most lovesick one you’ve ever seen.
“Thank you.” is all he says, but it’s enough to fill your heart up with warmth as he pulls away, ready to dry you up and lead you to the bed for another round.

southern gothic, as a literary genre, portrays the darker sides of the south such as poverty, racism, religious tension, and alienation. how would you describe australian gothic in your own words? is there any media with that vibe? (sorry if this is a weird ask I’m just curious)
i only woke up like 30 mins ago so this wont be very insightful or anything but i consider aus gothic to be mainly the fear of the unknown in relation to the bush, like the thick bush u could easily get lost in or the outback where its just nothing for miles but dirt.
i grew up in a small town where everyone knew each other, there was one shop, one pub and one primary school, and my town was rivals with the neighbouring town because "they got more" than us (shops, customers, etc). as well as that, my primary schools and other schools in the neighbouring towns were a part of some interconnected community where we'd do events with each other like walkathons, school sports, etc, but one of the other town's school decided not to join and every year they have like 5 students (genuinely, even still to this day) so they now have resentment towards the other towns. so i also see a sense of community and rivalry when i think of aus gothic.
as well as that, i live where the gold rush took place so gold detecting, random mines in the bush that you have to avoid cause u could fall right through, remnants of settlements that were abandoned after the people there went home because they couldn't make a fortune looking for gold like they thought they could also comes into play.
mainly for me though, its all about the bush. i grew up on a road where one side was about 5 houses and the other side of the road was all bush. when i was growing up i honestly didn't give a fuck about the bush cause to me it was just where i lived, but in recent years i've really come to appreciate the beauty of it, especially since my nana still lives there on the same street i grew up on so i can still spend some time there.
as for aus gothic media/literature, i'm a massive fan of horror so i'd 100% have to say wolf creek. i loooove wolf creek. my other (obvious) choice is picnic at hanging rock, that story really plays into the fear of the unknown. i studied that in year 12 so i know too much about it lol. AND OF COURSE LAKE MUNGO. i almost forgot about lake mungo, i absolutely fucking love lake mungo.
if anyone has any other recs for good aus gothic media send them thru, i do read a bit but unfortunately nothing to do with aus gothic lol
edit: dogs are also a part of aus gothic for me! sounds completely unrelated but most people i know who live out bush have dogs, i grew up with multiple dogs, from kelpies to bulldogs to staffies so i've always loved dogs and associated them with my time spent growing up out bush.

Chapter 2
The Summer Court’s palace shimmered like a mirage against the sapphire sea, its golden spires reflecting the sunlight as waves lapped gently at the white sand below. It was a picture of peace and prosperity, but you knew better than to be lulled by its serene beauty.
Beneath its calm surface, the court was as rife with politics and subterfuge as any other.
You stepped into Tarquin’s private council chamber, where the High Lord awaited you. The room was filled with the scent of salt and sun, the light streaming through floor-to-ceiling windows that overlooked the sparkling sea. Tarquin stood by the window, his arms crossed over his chest, his turquoise eyes scanning the horizon. He turned as you entered, his expression calm but sharp, his gaze immediately locking onto you.
“You’re back,” he said simply, his voice rich with curiosity and authority.
You inclined your head, stepping further into the room and closing the door behind you. “I am. The ball went as expected—perhaps better.”
Tarquin gestured for you to sit at the table in the center of the room, and you took your seat as he lowered himself into the chair opposite you. His focus never wavered, his sharp mind already piecing together the weight of your expression and the tone of your voice.
“Tell me everything,” he said.
You recounted the events of the Autumn Court’s masquerade in meticulous detail. The atmosphere, the key players, the whispers you overheard. When you reached the part about Eris Vanserra, Tarquin leaned forward slightly, his interest piqued.
“He noticed me immediately,” you said, keeping your voice steady. “It took little effort to draw his attention. He was… enchanted, or at least pretended to be. We danced several times, and he invited me to walk with him in the gardens.”
Tarquin’s brow furrowed, though not in disapproval. “And?”
“I kept to the persona we crafted,” you assured him. “Kaela, from a lesser court with ties to the Summer Court. I dropped your name subtly, as planned. He seemed intrigued but didn’t press too hard. If anything, he seemed more interested in my… presence.”
Your words trailed off, and Tarquin’s lips twitched in a faint smile. “Eris is well-known for being easily swayed by beauty, especially when it serves his ambitions. I take it he was quite forward?”
You nodded. “He kissed me before we returned to the ballroom.”
Tarquin leaned back, his expression unreadable for a moment as he processed the information. Finally, he spoke, his tone measured. “It’s a good start. If Eris is already that taken with you, it will make the next steps easier. But you must tread carefully. Eris may seem infatuated, but he’s as cunning as his father. He’ll test you, and if he finds even a hint of deception, he won’t hesitate to turn on you.”
“I understand,” you said firmly. “What do you want me to do next?”
Tarquin’s gaze hardened slightly, the weight of his responsibility evident in his expression. “We need to confirm what Beron is planning. The rumors of an uprising have reached too many ears to be mere speculation. If Beron is aligning himself with outside forces—Hybern sympathizers, rogue courts, or even traitors within the High Lords—then we need to know. Eris is your way in. He’s ambitious, yes, but he’s also desperate to prove himself superior to his father. Use that.”
You nodded, already anticipating the intricacies of what would come next. “The Autumnal Equinox is in a week. Eris will expect me to be there.”
“Good.” Tarquin’s voice softened slightly, though his resolve remained unshaken. “Keep the ruse intact. Push for more, but don’t overplay your hand. Beron is ruthless, and if he so much as suspects you’re working against him, no alliance with me will save you.”
His warning was clear, but there was also trust in his gaze. He had chosen you for this mission because he believed in your skill, in your ability to navigate the perilous waters of Autumn’s politics. You had spent years honing your craft in the shadows of the Summer Court, learning to become whoever the situation demanded.
This was no different.
At least, that’s what you told yourself.
“There’s one more thing,” you said carefully, hesitating for the first time. “Someone else was there. From the Night Court.”
Tarquin’s brows furrowed, a shadow of concern crossing his face. “Who?”
“Their spymaster,” you replied. “Azriel.”
Tarquin’s reaction was subtle, but his eyes darkened. “What did he want?”
“I don’t know,” you admitted. “He danced with me, asked who I was, and seemed… suspicious. He watched me the entire night, even when I was with Eris. He’s perceptive, Tarquin. If anyone can sense something is amiss, it’s him.”
Tarquin’s jaw tightened, his fingers tapping lightly against the table. “That complicates things. The Night Court has no love for Beron, but Azriel’s presence suggests they’re watching Autumn closely. If he suspects you, he may try to intervene—and that could ruin everything.”
“I’ll be careful,” you promised. “I don’t think he trusts me, but he has no proof of who I really am.”
Tarquin studied you for a moment, his gaze weighing something unspoken. Finally, he nodded. “Very well. Continue with the mission. But be wary of Azriel. The spymaster is not someone to underestimate. If he’s watching you, then he’s already planning his next move.”
“I understand.”
As you rose to leave, Tarquin’s voice stopped you. “One more thing,” he said. “I trust you to see this through, but remember: your safety is not worth the secrets we seek. If it becomes too dangerous, pull out. Do you hear me?”
You hesitated, then nodded. “I hear you.”
But as you left the chamber and stepped out into the sunlit halls of the Summer Court, the weight of the mission settled heavily on your shoulders.
You couldn’t afford to fail—not for Tarquin, not for the Summer Court, and not for yourself.
The stakes were rising, and the lines between loyalty and deception were beginning to blur.
********
The Autumn Court was alight with the golden hues of the equinox, a celebration of harvest and fire, of the season’s fleeting beauty before the long, cold descent of winter. The festival sprawled across Beron’s grand estate, spilling from the opulent halls into the sprawling courtyards and gardens, where lanterns cast flickering shadows across the leaves.
This time, you wore no mask.
Your gown was a masterpiece of autumn’s essence, crafted from silken fabrics in shades of burnt orange, deep crimson, and gold that shimmered like fire when you moved. The neckline framed your collarbones elegantly, and your honey-colored eyes gleamed with intelligence and quiet determination as you stepped into the festivities. Your dark hair was loosely braided, intertwined with strands of gold and tiny jeweled leaves, as though autumn itself had claimed you as its muse.
The court was alive with music and laughter, the scent of spiced cider and roasted meats wafting through the air. Long tables groaned beneath the weight of seasonal delicacies: golden pastries, rich stews, glistening fruits, and warm breads. Dancers swirled in the courtyard to the lively hum of fiddles and drums, their movements as wild and untamed as the season they celebrated.
You moved through the crowd with effortless grace, your every step drawing attention. Males turned to look as you passed, their gazes lingering too long on the sway of your hips, the way the lanterns caught the fire of your gown. You felt their stares, their whispered words, but you paid them no mind.
You were used to this by now—attention was a tool, and tonight, it was one you wielded with precision.
Eris, as always, was pleased by the effect you had on others. He stood near the main table, clad in deep red and gold, his fiery hair catching the light. His amber eyes followed your every move, a faint smirk playing on his lips as he noticed the way other males watched you.
He liked that they wanted you.
He liked it even more that you remained by his side when he summoned you.
But tonight, someone else was watching you, too.
Azriel stood at the edge of the festivities, his form cloaked in the shadows that seemed to cling to him like a second skin. He wore no mask either, and his Illyrian leathers had been traded for a simple, elegant black jacket that made him look no less dangerous. His hazel eyes—keen, sharp, and piercing—followed you as you moved through the crowd, his jaw tightening each time another male drew too close.
He had come for answers, but the sight of you, unmasked and radiant, had unraveled something inside him.
Before you could make your way to Eris, Azriel stepped from the shadows and intercepted you, his approach silent but purposeful. His voice was soft but firm as he spoke, “You’re hard to miss tonight.”
You turned, startled at first, but you quickly schooled your expression.
Seeing him without his mask was a shock.
The stories hadn’t done him justice—Azriel was devastatingly handsome, his features sharp and angular, his scarred hands folded behind his back. But his eyes, those hazel eyes flecked with gold, burned with an intensity that made your breath catch.
“Shadowsinger,” you greeted, your tone calm, though your heart raced beneath your ribs.
“Azriel,” he corrected, his gaze never leaving yours. “And you are?”
“No one of importance,” you replied, the familiar words slipping easily from your lips.
Azriel’s mouth twitched, a ghost of a smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes. “You said that before. I don’t believe it now any more than I did then.”
You raised a brow, your gaze steady. “And what brings the spymaster of the Night Court to an Autumnal Equinox festival?”
“The same thing that brings you, I imagine,” he replied, his voice low. “Curiosity.”
You couldn’t help the small laugh that escaped you. “Curiosity about me? Or about the Autumn Court?”
“Both,” he admitted without hesitation.
There was something in his tone—something raw, honest, and entirely unexpected.
It unsettled you more than you cared to admit.
Before you could respond, Azriel gestured to the long tables laden with food. “Would you sit with me? I think we could both use a reprieve from… wandering eyes.”
You hesitated, glancing toward where Eris stood, still speaking with a group of nobles. For a moment, you considered refusing, but something in Azriel’s gaze stopped you.
He was looking at you not like you were a prize to be won, but like you were a puzzle he was determined to solve. And for reasons you couldn’t quite explain, you found yourself nodding.
“Very well,” you said. “Lead the way.”
He guided you to a quieter corner of the courtyard, where the lanterns cast a softer glow. You both filled your plates with roasted meats, golden squash, and warm bread before sitting at a smaller table away from the chaos. The sounds of music and laughter faded slightly, leaving you in a pocket of relative quiet.
Azriel studied you as you ate, his gaze thoughtful but unrelenting. “You’re different tonight.”
“Am I?” you asked, keeping your tone light as you picked at the food on your plate.
“You aren’t hiding,” he said simply. “No mask. No pretense of blending in. You’re…” He hesitated, as if searching for the right word. “…bold.”
You tilted your head, meeting his gaze. “And what about you? I doubt the Night Court sent you here to enjoy the festivities.”
A shadow of a smile crossed his lips. “Perhaps I came for the food.”
“Liar,” you said softly, but there was no malice in your voice.
He leaned forward slightly, his expression serious. “I came because I couldn’t get you out of my head after the last time I saw you...And because I think you’re hiding something.”
You froze for half a heartbeat before forcing yourself to smile. “Aren’t we all?”
Azriel didn’t look convinced, but before he could press further, a familiar voice broke through the moment.
“Kaela.” Eris’s tone was smooth but edged with subtle irritation. He was standing a few feet away, his amber eyes flicking between you and Azriel with barely concealed disdain. “I’ve been looking for you.”
You rose gracefully, offering Azriel a polite nod before turning to Eris. “I was just… meeting new people.”
Eris smiled, though it didn’t reach his eyes. “Come. There’s much more to see.”
As Eris led you away, Azriel watched, his shadows curling tightly around him, restless and frustrated.
You didn’t look back, but you felt his gaze like a brand on your skin. You knew this wasn’t the last time he’d seek you out.
Eris seemed to swell with pride as he took your hand, guiding you through the heart of the Autumn Court’s festivities. The firelight gilded his crimson hair and sharp features, making him look every inch the heir to a throne of flame and power. His grip on your hand was firm, possessive, as though parading you through the crowd was as much about his status as it was about you.
You allowed him to lead, a delicate smile playing on your lips, your demeanor graceful and composed. Inside, you were calculating. Every introduction, every gaze that lingered on you, was a potential piece of the puzzle you were here to solve. Eris introduced you to noble after noble, his voice smooth and charming, but there was always a sharp edge to his tone—a warning to those who looked at you too long or spoke too boldly.
“And this,” Eris said, his hand tightening slightly on yours as he addressed an older male in an autumn-orange cloak, “is Kaela. A guest of the Autumn Court and… my most delightful companion this evening.”
The male’s eyes swept over you, appreciation flickering in their depths. “Delightful indeed,” he said, his voice rich with insinuation. “Tell me, my lady, how is it that the Autumn Court has been graced with such a beauty?”
You smiled politely, keeping your voice light. “It seems your court has a way of drawing people in, my lord.”
The older male chuckled, his gaze lingering on your face. “If only I were a younger man,” he said with a mock sigh. “Perhaps I’d have a chance to steal you away from Eris.”
Eris’s smile was tight, his amber eyes narrowing slightly. “Perhaps,” he said, his tone cold enough to make the noble falter. “But I doubt you’d get very far.”
The exchange was brief but effective, the older male bowing slightly before excusing himself. Eris’s hand remained firmly on yours as he guided you onward, his smirk returning as he leaned closer. “It seems everyone here is desperate for what they can’t have.”
You glanced at him, your tone carefully neutral. “And you enjoy that, don’t you?”
He didn’t deny it. “Why shouldn’t I? Let them look. Let them wish. At the end of the night, they’ll all know you’re with me.”
The words should have unsettled you, but they didn’t.
Eris’s possessiveness was a tool you could use, a shield that kept others from prying too deeply into who you truly were.
Still, you felt the weight of every gaze on you, men and women alike casting bold looks your way, their compliments growing more brazen with each introduction.
“You look like a goddess of autumn herself,” one male said, his voice dripping with admiration. “Surely no mortal could compare.”
“If only I were brave enough to ask for a dance,” said another, his eyes trailing over you shamelessly.
Eris, to his credit, didn’t allow their words to linger. “Bravery wouldn’t save you,” he said coolly, his arm slipping around your waist now, pulling you closer. “Some treasures aren’t meant to be touched.”
The possessive gesture drew murmurs from those around you, whispers that only seemed to inflate Eris’s ego further.
He thrived on the attention, on the envy that radiated from the other nobles.
And though you played along, offering a charming smile or a soft laugh at the right moments, you couldn’t shake the feeling of another gaze, one that burned hotter than all the rest.
Azriel.
You hadn’t seen him since Eris had taken you from his table, but you felt him. Felt the weight of his hazel eyes on you from the shadows, the intensity of his focus like a tangible thing.
It wasn’t just jealousy—you knew that.
It was something deeper, more complex.
He was watching you not as a predator watches prey, but as a hunter studies a puzzle he’s determined to solve.
As you moved through the crowd, you caught glimpses of him at the edges of your vision. Always in the periphery, never too far but never too close. His shadows curled around him like restless vipers, their movements barely restrained.
His expression was unreadable, but the tension in his body, the sharpness of his gaze, told you all you needed to know.
He hated seeing you like this—on Eris’s arm, surrounded by adoring nobles.
Hated the way Eris leaned into you, whispered in your ear as if you were his to command.
And yet, he did nothing.
He stayed hidden, his hands clenched at his sides, his shadows betraying his frustration.
Eris, oblivious to the spymaster’s presence, led you to a quieter corner of the courtyard where another group of nobles gathered. They greeted you warmly, their compliments flowing freely. One particularly bold male, tall and broad-shouldered, leaned close enough to make your skin prickle.
“If Eris ever tires of you,” he said, his voice low and dripping with innuendo, “I’d be more than happy to show you the true charms of the Autumn Court.”
Before you could respond, Eris stepped in, his voice sharp as a blade. “Careful, Halric. Flirting with what’s mine is a dangerous game.”
The other male chuckled, though he stepped back, his hands raised in mock surrender. “Of course, my lord. No harm meant.”
Eris watched him retreat, his hand sliding lower on your back, his lips brushing close to your ear. “They’re fools,” he murmured. “All of them. They see only what’s on the surface.”
You turned your head slightly, meeting his gaze with an enigmatic smile. “And what do you see?”
Eris’s eyes flickered with something more—something darker. “I see fire. A fire that can burn everything to ash if it’s not handled carefully.”
His words sent a chill down your spine, but you hid it well, your expression unreadable as you allowed him to guide you back toward the heart of the festivities. All the while, you felt Azriel’s gaze following your every step, his shadows whispering to him in the darkness.
And though you couldn’t see him, you knew he was there, watching, waiting.
You could only imagine the storm brewing in his mind as you played your part, as you allowed yourself to be paraded like a trophy at Eris’s side.
The celebrations had reached their peak, the golden lights and laughter fading into a blur as Eris finally pulled you away from the crowd. His hand was firm around your wrist as he led you down a quiet hallway, away from the revelry and into a shadowed alcove tucked between towering stone walls. The flicker of distant torches barely reached this secluded corner, casting everything in dim, golden light.
The moment you were alone, Eris turned to you, his amber eyes gleaming with desire and triumph. He didn’t waste time with words, didn’t ask permission. His lips were on yours, hungry and demanding, his hands sliding over your waist, your back, your hips as though he was staking a claim. You didn’t resist, couldn’t—not when playing the part demanded compliance. So you kissed him back, letting your hands rest lightly on his shoulders, your movements calculated to seem eager, even though your heart wasn’t in it.
Eris groaned against your lips, his hands wandering lower. You caught his wrist subtly, guiding him back up without breaking the kiss. He smirked against your mouth, mistaking your restraint for coyness. He pressed closer, the heat of his body seeping into yours, but before he could push further, a voice called his name.
Eris cursed softly under his breath, pulling back with a frustrated sigh. “My father always has the worst timing,” he muttered. He cupped your chin, his thumb brushing over your lower lip as he smiled lazily. “Wait here for me. I won’t be long.”
With that, he left, his footsteps echoing as he disappeared into the distance. You exhaled slowly, your heartbeat steadying as the heat of his presence faded. But before you could compose yourself fully, a shadow moved in the corner of your vision.
Azriel.
He stepped from the darkness like a wraith, his hazel eyes burning with fury, his shadows coiling around him like restless predators. The sight of him in the dim light was enough to steal your breath. His sharp jaw was clenched, his scarred hands at his sides, though tension radiated from every inch of him.
“What game are you playing?” he asked, his voice low and dangerous. His words cut through the stillness like a blade.
You stiffened, meeting his gaze with as much calm as you could muster. “I’m not playing any games.”
Azriel scoffed, taking a step closer. His presence was overwhelming, his shadows licking at the edges of the alcove like they couldn’t contain themselves. “Don’t lie to me.”
You lifted your chin, refusing to flinch under his scrutiny. “I’m not lying. My name is Kaela, as I told him. And I’m genuinely interested in him.”
The words tasted bitter on your tongue, but you said them anyway, your expression carefully blank. Azriel’s reaction was immediate. His jaw tightened, his eyes narrowing as if the very idea disgusted him.
“Interested in Eris?” he repeated, his voice laced with incredulity. “Why would you want anything to do with someone like him? He’s—” He broke off, his wings flaring slightly behind him, as if he couldn’t find words strong enough to describe his disdain. “He’s vile. And you let him put his filthy hands on you.”
You held his gaze, refusing to waver. “What I let him do is none of your concern.”
Azriel’s hazel eyes darkened, the shadows around him swirling faster. Before you could react, he closed the distance between you in a single, fluid motion. His hand shot out, pinning you gently but firmly against the stone wall. His other hand cupped your jaw, tilting your face up to his as his lips crashed against yours.
It wasn’t like Eris’s kiss—calculated and arrogant. This was fire and desperation, a storm breaking after too long held back. Azriel kissed you like a man starved, his mouth devouring yours with a ferocity that left you breathless. A soft moan escaped your lips, and his grip on your jaw tightened slightly in response, his body pressing closer to yours.
Your hands fisted in his jacket, pulling him even closer, and he responded in kind, his kiss deepening, his tongue sliding against yours in a way that sent sparks shooting through your body. Heat pooled in your core, and you felt yourself melting into him despite every logical thought screaming at you to stop.
When he finally pulled away, your lips were swollen, your chest heaving as you struggled to catch your breath. Azriel’s eyes bore into yours, his own breathing ragged. His thumb brushed over your cheek as he stared at you like you were the answer to a question he hadn’t even known he was asking.
“Now I know you’re a liar,” he said, his voice rough. “You didn’t kiss him back like that.”
You opened your mouth to protest, but no words came out. He leaned in again, his voice dropping to a whisper. “Who are you? The truth this time.”
You swallowed hard, your resolve cracking under the weight of his gaze. But before you could speak, the sound of approaching footsteps broke the moment. Azriel stepped back, his shadows swallowing him as he disappeared into the darkness once more, leaving you alone, shaken and utterly undone.
You barely had time to compose yourself before Eris reappeared. His amber eyes glinted with the light of the torches as he stepped into the alcove, a slow, satisfied smirk curling his lips as he looked at you. He appeared every inch the confident heir to the Autumn Court, but his gaze carried a possessiveness that made your skin prickle.
“I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long,” he drawled, stepping closer until the heat of his body was brushing against yours. He cupped your face with one hand, his thumb grazing your cheek as his eyes roamed over you. “Where were we?”
Before you could reply, his lips captured yours again, the kiss hungry and insistent. He pressed you back against the stone wall, his hands wandering over your waist, your hips, and lower still. You stiffened slightly, your hand darting up to catch his wrist, stopping him just as his fingers began to stray too far.
“Eris,” you said softly, your voice calm but firm. He pulled back just enough to look at you, his brows furrowing slightly. You kept your expression neutral, offering him a small, teasing smile to soften the rejection. “Not here.”
He studied you for a moment, clearly debating whether to press the issue. Then, with a frustrated sigh, he stepped back, though his hands lingered on your waist. “You’re maddening, you know that?” he said, his tone a mixture of irritation and amusement.
“Perhaps,” you replied, tilting your head slightly. “But I don’t think you mind.”
His smirk returned, his amber eyes glittering with amusement. “No, I don’t.” He leaned in, brushing his lips against your ear as he whispered, “But you’ll have to make it up to me later.”
You didn’t respond, just smiled faintly as he pulled away. He straightened his jacket, his confidence undiminished, and reached for your hand. “Come on,” he said, his tone lighter now. “I’ve been gone too long already. Let’s not give the vultures anything to gossip about.”
He didn’t wait for your response, simply laced his fingers with yours and led you back toward the heart of the festivities. His grip was firm but not harsh, his stride confident as though parading you through the crowd was a display of his power.
When you re-entered the courtyard, the music and laughter enveloped you once more. The crowd had thickened, and the firelight cast a warm glow over the dancers swirling in the center of the space. Eris held your hand tightly as he wove through the crowd, pausing every so often to speak with a noble or exchange pleasantries. Each time, his arm would slide around your waist, pulling you close as if to remind everyone watching that you were his for the evening.
The attention was as suffocating as it was useful. Nobles cast envious glances your way, their eyes filled with curiosity, admiration, or outright jealousy. Compliments were thrown your way with little subtlety, each one bolder than the last.
“You’ve outdone yourself, Eris,” one male said, his tone dripping with envy as his eyes roved over you. “I didn’t know the Autumn Court could attract such… radiance.”
Eris’s smile was sharp, his arm tightening around you. “Some treasures find their way to the right hands,” he said smoothly, his gaze daring anyone to challenge him.
You played your part perfectly, offering polite smiles and soft laughter, but you felt the weight of another gaze on you—one that burned hotter than all the rest.
Azriel was still watching.
From the shadows at the edge of the courtyard, he stood like a sentinel, his wings folded tightly against his back, his hazel eyes following your every move. He was a master of stealth, but you knew where to look now, could feel the intensity of his focus even when you didn’t meet his gaze.
His presence was a storm brewing on the horizon, and each step you took with Eris felt like walking closer to its center.
Eris, oblivious to the spymaster’s watchful gaze, led you toward the center of the festivities, where the music swelled and the dancing was at its most fervent. He turned to you, his hand still on your waist, and offered a slight bow. “Dance with me.”
You hesitated, but only for a moment. Refusing would raise questions, and so you placed your hand in his and allowed him to guide you onto the dance floor. The music was lively, the rhythm fast and playful, and Eris was a skilled partner. He spun you with ease, his movements graceful and commanding, his smirk growing with every admiring glance cast your way.
But no matter how charming Eris was, no matter how well you played your role, your mind was elsewhere.
You could feel Azriel’s gaze on you even now, searing into you from across the courtyard. Every step, every twirl, felt like a challenge—a test to see how far you could push the illusion without breaking.
When the song ended, Eris pulled you close, his lips brushing your temple. “You’re perfect,” he murmured, his voice low enough that only you could hear. “Every single one of them envies me tonight.”
You didn’t respond, simply offered him a small smile as the next song began. But as he led you into another dance, your thoughts drifted to the shadows, to the figure watching you with a gaze that felt more intimate, more piercing, than any touch Eris could muster.
The festivities were finally winding down, the golden light of the torches dimming as the Autumn Court’s revelers began to thin. The music had slowed to soft, wistful melodies, and the air carried the scent of burnt leaves and smoldering embers. Eris stood at your side, speaking with a small group of nobles, his arm draped loosely over your waist as though to remind everyone of your place. His laugh was sharp, cutting through the night like a blade, but his attention wavered when a steward approached, murmuring something low in his ear.
Eris sighed dramatically, his hand brushing over your hip as he leaned in. “It seems I’m needed again. Don’t stray too far—I won’t be long.” His amber eyes gleamed with promise before he turned and disappeared into the shadows with the steward, leaving you standing alone at the edge of the courtyard.
You exhaled slowly, the weight of your role settling heavily on your shoulders now that his presence had lifted. For a moment, you considered retreating to a quieter corner to compose yourself, but before you could take a single step, a familiar figure emerged from the darkness.
Azriel.
His approach was silent as ever, but his presence filled the space like a storm rolling in. His hazel eyes were sharp, cutting through the autumn haze as they locked onto yours, and the faint flicker of his shadows around his shoulders made him seem even more menacing.
“You’re alone,” he said, his voice low but carrying an edge that sent a shiver down your spine.
You straightened, meeting his gaze with as much calm as you could muster. “Not for long. Eris will return soon.”
Azriel’s jaw tightened at the mention of Eris, his wings shifting slightly behind him as though the name itself irritated him. He stepped closer, his movements deliberate and controlled, and you instinctively took a step back, your shoulders brushing against the rough stone of the wall behind you.
“What are you doing here?” he demanded, his tone sharper now. “And don’t give me the same rehearsed lie you told Eris.”
You lifted your chin, refusing to let his intensity intimidate you. “It’s not a lie. I told you the truth—I’m Kaela, from a lesser court with ties to the Summer Court. Tarquin encouraged me to attend these festivities to build connections.”
Azriel scoffed, his expression darkening. “Do you think I’m a fool? That I’d believe you’re here for some… socialite mission? With him?” He stepped closer still, his body radiating heat and tension. “You expect me to believe you’d associate yourself with Eris Vanserra for connections?”
“Why does it matter to you?” you shot back, your voice sharper than you intended. “What I do and who I do it with are none of your concern.”
“It matters because you’re lying,” Azriel growled, his hands suddenly gripping your arms as he pulled you close, his face mere inches from yours. His scent—night-chilled mist and cedar—filled your senses, making it harder to focus. “You’re not who you say you are. I see it in your eyes, in the way you carry yourself. You’re hiding something, and I want to know what it is.”
You swallowed hard, trying to steady your breathing as his piercing gaze pinned you in place. “You don’t know anything about me.”
“Then tell me,” he said, his voice dropping lower, more dangerous. “Tell me who you really are, and why you’re letting that vile male touch you.”
You hesitated, the weight of your mission warring with the intensity of his presence. But you couldn’t let the facade crack—not now, not after all you’d worked to build. “I told you who I am,” you said, your voice quieter now but still firm. “And as for Eris… perhaps I see something in him that you don’t.”
Azriel’s eyes narrowed, his grip tightening slightly, though not enough to hurt. “You can’t seriously mean that. Eris is a snake. A power-hungry coward who’d sell his own court for a sliver of advantage. And you—” his voice faltered, a flicker of something raw flashing in his eyes, “—you’re too clever to fall for him.”
You exhaled shakily, your heart pounding in your chest. “And what do you think you know about me, Azriel? You’ve seen me at a ball and a festival. That’s hardly enough to claim you know anything.”
“I know enough,” he said, his voice low and rough, the tension in his body palpable. “Enough to see you’re not who you say you are. Enough to see that you didn’t kiss Eris like you kissed me. You say you are interested in him but your body says otherwise.”
Your breath hitched, and his gaze dropped briefly to your lips before snapping back up to your eyes. He leaned closer, his voice a whisper now, but no less commanding. “So tell me, who are you?”
You stared at him, your mind racing. His proximity, the heat of his body against yours, the way his shadows curled restlessly around you—it was too much. Your carefully crafted persona felt like it was slipping, but you held onto it with everything you had.
“I’m exactly who I told you I am,” you said softly, forcing the words out even as your chest tightened. “And you have no right to demand otherwise.”
Azriel’s jaw clenched, his frustration evident as he released your arms and took a step back. His shadows writhed around him, their whispers like faint echoes of his turbulent thoughts. “You’re lying,” he said again, his tone quieter but no less certain. “And I’ll find out why.”
With that, he turned, disappearing into the darkness as swiftly as he’d arrived, leaving you standing there, shaken and breathless. You pressed a hand to the wall to steady yourself, your thoughts spinning.
You’d held your ground, but Azriel was relentless, and deep down, you knew this wouldn’t be the last time he’d confront you.

Twiststuck stuff i just wanna get out
Im a huge Cater multi-shipper
Normally this wouldn't be a problem
BUT I CAN'T HAVE ALMOST EVERYONE IN THIS AU HAVE A FLUSH OR PALE CRUSH ON HIM THAT'S ABSURD!!!
#froge post#twiststuck#... theres so many good ships tho.#like riddle pale crush on him would be SO cute.#Though Riddle doesn't go through with it? Buuuut still might have lingering feelings of red and pale in the future?#(I will say this; Riddle ends up breaking quads but its Trey <> riddle but Trey is also his Auspistice. This freaks him out at first)#and Idia having a flush crush would be really funny too cause of how outgoing cater is#and idia's mind is like “woa... alien find me fun to be around?” and he gets a flush crush#I've already confirmed that Jade has a Pale/Flush crush on Cater though Jade isn't sure which one it is.#Jade also seems like the kinda troll who would mix his romances like doesn't quite follow quadrants and instead breaks them#Obviously Trey and Cater being in a relationship is a thing.#past or present? idk. but they've got something going on.#Malleus <3 Cater would be so good too#Prince Malleus learning about humans/ communication and other things from Cater and gains feelings of some kind Pale to Flush or something#Pale Crush Ace i think is a good idea but then Ace gets over it pretty quick. Same with Deuce probs. (these two red tho)#ROOK AND CATER?! LIKE ok that's a biiit of a Crackship? but like here me out???#Like Rook loves learning but also he's “trapped” in that little room and manages to see the world from Cater's pictures#and falls a bit for the photographer? who manages to capture the beauty of NRCBurb or whatever i call the game dfjsalkf#Vil and Cater is also good albeit probably one-sided on Cater's part? Though I can imagine Cater doing the good ol Sacrifice for him.#Cater will throw himself in harms away alot in this au actually.#if i write a narrative for it#Kalim and Cater being “Pale” despite both being human. Like Cater reigns Kalim in from his extravagant plans with more lowkey plans#also Cater did pretty much sacrifice himself for Kalim in the Playful Land event! so there's another point for self sacrificial Cater#I saw Jamil x Cater one time and I thought that was cute so that might be a one off joke-ish moment#floyd flush crush cater is also probably a one off joke too#during the “Jade thinks Cater is a purple blood era” and then loses interest when learning Cater is human. probably#watch me come up with more after posting#HOW DID THIS GET SO LONG HELLO???#Cater Diamond#twst

i think something moonage daydream was really good at doing was capturing a vibe
#sir.txt#the thing it was second best at was painting a picture... that movie is a watercolor rendition of a galaxy to me#i feel like the linear progression of bowie's life in the movie never being marked by any specific dates not even years... it gives it that#not cut and dry feeling. none of these events exist solely in one day of one year they are something that will span longer than ourselves#one day- a couple of hours- stretched into infinity simply by the fact that they were not confined within a date#i think that's something worthy of bowie. to be immortalized not through the medium itself but by how the medium refuses to cage him within#any set parameters that would be too extreme and unsatisfying for him would he be there to choose#instead letting him trespass all those barriers and just be and transcend#my boyfriend says the film is like bowies superstar cosmic journal well i say the film is like bowies watercolor rendition of a galaxy in#formation- and all the stars are still forming and the watercolor still hasn't dried as another layer is added so shades melt within-into-#each other#like how bowie refused to keep himself caged within one style one look one identity he surpassed all of those boundaries and transformed#into something else... it is only fair that the film capture it in a similar way... all of the flashy colors and editing is just a#projection of bowies spirit itself in all its vibrancy and extravagance without being supercilious#this movie was touching but also fun for the sake of fun and eccentric for the sake of eccentricity. it's a must watch for whoever loves#bowie at his most raw and unrestrained and undefined... i felt like falling through the screen to bw held by him at several moments#BECAUSE that's what the movie is it's the galaxy wrapping its arms around the unknowing astronaut#and welcoming them into itself because nobody in this reality is actually an outsider of life- nobody passively observes the universe-#that's something that i found very moving in the film was how bowie surpassed that feeling of all-encompassing loneliness that was#what propeled him to create art... and found acceptance and loving and understood he wasn't alien to all of it.#it's very moving again like i said. but specially movingfor someone like me who struggles so hard not to simply idly observe things and let#life reject me. I can't keep letting these things write themselves into existence over and over and maybe just maybe#that film helped me snap back into a higher sense of lucidity where i realise i have to take control of my life#but like. anyway.#bowies life is very mythologised but in part it is very much a self constructed myth which he himself took the time to skillfully architect#and its such that myth ceases to be only in suspension and untangible: bowie being extraterrestrial.#he.... he integrates so much into the planet he does become an energy traversing through earth. he becomes life itself but in the least self#important way this sentiment could be expressed.#there will never be another bowie- as there will never be another dylan or reed or lennon. there will never be circumstances which will come#but to quote the movie. his life hasnt ended. only changed. thats beautiful. anyways my tags are up

/obey me! vent/
#jessamine rambles#before i start. pls keep in mind that this is fully subjective and could just be a 'me' problem. i just want to get this off my chest#ngl i've been contemplating on whether i want to stop playing obey me. both the og game and nightbringer#idk i've been playing the game since its first month and while it's given me a lot of joy + memories + chances to befriend other ppl. i'm#pretty burned out. not to mention TIRED of my consistent disappointment with the game#the main story.....where do i start?? i actually enjoyed s1-s3 despite my qualms with the fillers and pacing but s4 disappointed me. i was#rlly looking forward to simeon's storyline and the new characters but ultimately. the devs tried to squeeze too many things into one season#not to mention that there is a notable difference in how the characters are written. i.e. beel's hunger and asmo's beauty#being watered down to running gags instead of the complexities explored in the old dg stories and chara songs#gameplay-wise. i was there when the devs raised the rewards price of the event urs and removed the demon ssrs completely#but nightbringer was the last straw for me. the amount of time it takes to grind for two games. knowing that the og app has essentially bee#abandoned by the devs?? not to mention that while the plot is interesting. i haven't touched the main story ever since the coma arc#i will give credit to the devs for improving the event stories by choosing to focus on 1-2 demons. but it has always felt like a quantity >#quality situation. esp if i were to compare it to my other fandoms#it also doesn't help that i'm currently at a point of my life where i'm questioning if i could use my time on obm for better things#seeing how the game is giving me less reasons to believe it is worth my time#idk this may also be a short-term phase since i DID get back into twst after a long hiatus and i recently got into whb#which btw has felt like a breath of fresh air despite my frustrations with the bugs and current gacha#but yeahhhh........as much as i love the obm characters and fanfics. i'm just tired#at this point i feel like the only reason why i still play the game is due to the nostalgia and so i don't waste the years of grinding#aaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh#this is what i get for being the type of player who only plays a few games so they can rlly dedicate their time and passion to it#that's all

i was playing dmc 3 for the first time and i love how ridiculously over the top it is and i wish capcom did the same for resi like obviously not as outlandish as dmc but again the whole like “dark serious tone” of resi remakes just feels weird as a capcom game and it kinda feels like it insists upon itself

Calls you “my dear” and “lovely”/“wonderful” even though we literally just met
Comments that your names are beautiful
Offers to escort you (well, Trey technically) through the woods even though Skully has no idea where tf he’s going
Remarks that it would be nice to hold hands and stroll through the forest together
He tends to use the term "fated" to refer to things he has in common with others
Is the first character in all of Twst to have a BLUSHING face
He holds your hand and kisses you (on the back of it??) without even waiting or asking for your okay (avert your eyes, Grim…)????
HE ALSO KISSES GRIM AND ALL THE OTHER BOYS ON THE HAND
HE KISSES YUU MULTIPLE TIMES THROUGHOUT THIS EVENT
HE WALKED OUT OF a DAtinG SIM 😭
Other Skully facts:
He’s taller than Malleus (not including the horns, just judging by the models) and Sebek (stated explicitly in the dialogue)
He’s is a first year student
He’s 16, same age as the other first years (though Skully only recently turned 16)
Speaks very respectfully, even to fellow first years (Riddle remarks on Skully being very gentlemanly and even Vil calls Skully elegant)
He refers to himself using an archaic form of “I” (wagahai)
HE’S AN OTAKU FOR HALLOWEEN, he calls Jack Skellington “Jack Skellington-sama” and says Jack is the person he admires the most dbsksbsiqguzvs
Skully asks everyone else call him Jack-sama too
He comes from a small isolated fog-shrouded rural village; it is located at the bottom of a valley
His hometown considers Jack Skellington the founder of Halloween; Jack Skellington is not known outside of this village
The people in Skully’s hometown love Halloween and its founder, Jack
He seems to be sleep deprived???
Skully tries to tell others at his school about Halloween and Jack, but his peers don’t listen and get mad at him
Skully doesn’t like to talk about his school (and seems to actively dislike it, calling his classmates fools and asking to avoid the topic of school)
He self-admits to not having many people who understand him
Confirmed a mage (Leona says he has the same amount of magic as Epel), but he doesn’t have a magical pen/doesn't seem to know what they are???
He doesn't know Malleus either.
Skully claims he was also sucked into the book while attending the used book fair in Foothill Town
Chunibyo?? Like, he presents as mysterious initially but actually has very excitable reactions to things, lots of purple prose too
Leona calls him a BADGER
He calls his classmates “worthless” for not understanding/listening to him
He thinks lowly of those who disagree with his opinions on Halloween; there is a drastic shift in his personality when the NRC students express dissent
Skully’s ideal Halloween is solemn and desolate, involving: beating up all ghosts, painting rooms entirely black, no decorations, and no music
This is how his village spends Halloween, in solemn silence; Skully grew up thinking this is how it always is
He likes classical music and opera
He acts gentlemanly because he believes Jack is also a gentleman
He wants to learn piano someday
Skully believes that staying traditional and respecting and protecting the past is important
Details about his unique magic
(Side note: GRIM’S NEW oUTFIT 👌 He looks perfect in that suit!! LOOKS At HIS WIDDLE PAW gLOVES… And the chest fluff sticking out gives the illusion of a cravat! Aaaaaah, so cute 💕)

It all started with a mouse
Tumblr media
For the public domain, time stopped in 1998, when the Sonny Bono Copyright Act froze copyright expirations for 20 years. In 2019, time started again, with a massive crop of works from 1923 returning to the public domain, free for all to use and adapt:
https://web.law.duke.edu/cspd/publicdomainday/2019/
No one is better at conveying the power of the public domain than Jennifer Jenkins and James Boyle, who run the Duke Center for the Study of the Public Domain. For years leading up to 2019, the pair published an annual roundup of what we would have gotten from the public domain in a universe where the 1998 Act never passed. Since 2019, they've switched to celebrating what we're actually getting each year. Last year's was a banger:
https://pluralistic.net/2022/12/20/free-for-2023/#oy-canada
But while there's been moderate excitement at the publicdomainification of "Yes, We Have No Bananas," AA Milne's "Now We Are Six," and Sherlock Holmes, the main event that everyone's anticipated arrives on January 1, 2024, when Mickey Mouse enters the public domain.
The first appearance of Mickey Mouse was in 1928's Steamboat Willie. Disney was critical to the lobbying efforts that extended copyright in 1976 and again in 1998, so much so that the 1998 Act is sometimes called the Mickey Mouse Protection Act. Disney and its allies were so effective at securing these regulatory gifts that many people doubted that this day would ever come. Surely Disney would secure another retrospective copyright term extension before Jan 1, 2024. I had long arguments with comrades about this – people like Project Gutenberg founder Michael S Hart (RIP) were fatalistically certain the public domain would never come back.
But they were wrong. The public outrage over copyright term extensions came too late to stave off the slow-motion arson of the 1976 and 1998 Acts, but it was sufficient to keep a third extension away from the USA. Canada wasn't so lucky: Justin Trudeau let Trump bully him into taking 20 years' worth of works out of Canada's public domain in the revised NAFTA agreement, making swathes of works by living Canadian authors illegal at the stroke of a pen, in a gift to the distant descendants of long-dead foreign authors.
Now, with Mickey's liberation bare days away, there's a mounting sense of excitement and unease. Will Mickey actually be free? The answer is a resounding YES! (albeit with a few caveats). In a prelude to this year's public domain roundup, Jennifer Jenkins has published a full and delightful guide to The Mouse and IP from Jan 1 on:
https://web.law.duke.edu/cspd/mickey/
Disney loves the public domain. Its best-loved works, from The Sorcerer's Apprentice to Sleeping Beauty, Pinnocchio to The Little Mermaid, are gorgeous, thoughtful, and lively reworkings of material from the public domain. Disney loves the public domain – we just wish it would share.
Disney loves copyright's other flexibilities, too, like fair use. Walt told the papers that he took his inspiration for Steamboat Willie from Charlie Chaplin and Douglas Fairbanks, making fair use of their performances to imbue Mickey with his mischief and derring do. Disney loves fair use – we just wish it would share.
Disney loves copyright's limitations. Steamboat Willie was inspired by Buster Keaton's silent film Steamboat Bill (titles aren't copyrightable). Disney loves copyright's limitations – we just wish it would share.
As Jenkins writes, Disney's relationship to copyright is wildly contradictory. It's the poster child for the public domain's power as a source of inspiration for worthy (and profitable) new works. It's also the chief villain in the impoverishment and near-extinction of the public domain. Truly, every pirate wants to be an admiral.
Disney's reliance on – and sabotage of – the public domain is ironic. Jenkins compares it to "an oil company relying on solar power to run its rigs." Come January 1, Disney will have to share.
Now, if you've heard anything about this, you've probably been told that Mickey isn't really entering the public domain. Between trademark claims and later copyrightable elements of Mickey's design, Mickey's status will be too complex to understand. That's totally wrong.
Tumblr media
Jenkins illustrates the relationship between these three elements in (what else) a Mickey-shaped Venn diagram. Topline: you can use all the elements of Mickey that are present in Steamboat Willie, along with some elements that were added later, provided that you make it clear that your work isn't affiliated with Disney.
Let's unpack that. The copyrightable status of a character used to be vague and complex, but several high-profile cases have brought clarity to the question. The big one is Les Klinger's case against the Arthur Conan Doyle estate over Sherlock Holmes. That case established that when a character appears in both public domain and copyrighted works, the character is in the public domain, and you are "free to copy story elements from the public domain works":
https://freesherlock.files.wordpress.com/2013/12/klinger-order-on-motion-for-summary-judgment-c.pdf
This case was appealed all the way to the Supreme Court, who declined to hear it. It's settled law.
Tumblr media
So, which parts of Mickey aren't going into the public domain? Elements that came later: white gloves, color. But that doesn't mean you can't add different gloves, or different colorways. The idea of a eyes with pupils is not copyrightable – only the specific eyes that Disney added.
Other later elements that don't qualify for copyright: a squeaky mouse voice, being adorable, doing jaunty dances, etc. These are all generic characteristics of cartoon mice, and they're free for you to use. Jenkins is more cautious on whether you can give your Mickey red shorts. She judges that "a single, bright, primary color for an article of clothing does not meet the copyrightability threshold" but without settled law, you might wanna change the colors.
But what about trademark? For years, Disney has included a clip from Steamboat Willie at the start of each of its films. Many observers characterized this as a bid to create a de facto perpetual copyright, by making Steamboat Willie inescapably associated with products from Disney, weaving an impassable web of trademark tripwires around it.
But trademark doesn't prevent you from using Steamboat Willie. It only prevents you from misleading consumers "into thinking your work is produced or sponsored by Disney." Trademarks don't expire so long as they're in use, but uses that don't create confusion are fair game under trademark.
Copyrights and trademarks can overlap. Mickey Mouse is a copyrighted character, but he's also an indicator that a product or service is associated with Disney. While Mickey's copyright expires in a couple weeks, his trademark doesn't. What happens to an out-of-copyright work that is still a trademark?
Luckily for us, this is also a thoroughly settled case. As in, this question was resolved in a unanimous 2000 Supreme Court ruling, Dastar v. Twentieth Century Fox. A live trademark does not extend an expired copyright. As the Supremes said:
[This would] create a species of mutant copyright law that limits the public’s federal right to copy and to use expired copyrights.
This elaborates on the Ninth Circuit's 1996 Maljack Prods v Goodtimes Home Video Corp:
[Trademark][ cannot be used to circumvent copyright law. If material covered by copyright law has passed into the public domain, it cannot then be protected by the Lanham Act without rendering the Copyright Act a nullity.
Despite what you might have heard, there is no ambiguity here. Copyrights can't be extended through trademark. Period. Unanimous Supreme Court Decision. Boom. End of story. Done.
But even so, there are trademark considerations in how you use Steamboat Willie after Jan 1, but these considerations are about protecting the public, not Disney shareholders. Your uses can't be misleading. People who buy or view your Steamboat Willie media or products have to be totally clear that your work comes from you, not Disney.
Tumblr media
Avoiding confusion will be very hard for some uses, like plush toys, or short idents at the beginning of feature films. For most uses, though, a prominent disclaimer will suffice. The copyright page for my 2003 debut novel Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom contains this disclaimer:
This novel is a work of fiction, set in an imagined future. All the characters and events portrayed in this book, including the imagined future of the Magic Kingdom, are either fictitious or are used fictitiously. The Walt Disney Company has not authorized or endorsed this novel.
https://us.macmillan.com/books/9781250196385/downandoutinthemagickingdom
Here's the Ninth Circuit again:
When a public domain work is copied, along with its title, there is little likelihood of confusion when even the most minimal steps are taken to distinguish the publisher of the original from that of the copy. The public is receiving just what it believes it is receiving—the work with which the title has become associated. The public is not only unharmed, it is unconfused.
Trademark has many exceptions. The First Amendment protects your right to use trademarks in expressive ways, for example, to recreate famous paintings with Barbie dolls:
https://www.copyright.gov/fair-use/summaries/mattel-walkingmountain-9thcir2003.pdf
And then there's "nominative use": it's not a trademark violation to use a trademark to accurately describe a trademarked thing. "We fix iPhones" is not a trademark violation. Neither is 'Works with HP printers.' This goes double for "expressive" uses of trademarks in new works of art:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogers_v._Grimaldi
What about "dilution"? Trademark protects a small number of superbrands from uses that "impair the distinctiveness or harm the reputation of the famous mark, even when there is no consumer confusion." Jenkins says that the Mickey silhouette and the current Mickey character designs might be entitled to protection from dilution, but Steamboat Willie doesn't make the cut.
Jenkins closes with a celebration of the public domain's ability to inspire new works, like Disney's Three Musketeers, Disney's Christmas Carol, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, Disney's Around the World in 80 Days, Disney's Alice in Wonderland, Disney's Snow White, Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame, Disney's Sleeping Beauty, Disney's Cinderella, Disney's Little Mermaid, Disney's Pinocchio, Disney's Huck Finn, Disney's Robin Hood, and Disney's Aladdin. These are some of the best-loved films of the past century, and made Disney a leading example of what talented, creative people can do with the public domain.
As of January 1, Disney will start to be an example of what talented, creative people give back to the public domain, joining Dickens, Dumas, Carroll, Verne, de Villeneuve, the Brothers Grimm, Twain, Hugo, Perrault and Collodi.
Public domain day is 17 days away. Creators of all kinds: start your engines!

1
People see you as a bit more reserved, someone who doesn't like to be around people for long. Most of the time, they think you take a long time to understand a situation and make a clear decision. It's important for you to gain a good perspective and evaluate a situation thoroughly, according to them. Some people think you are indecisive and your mind can sometimes be dull and empty. Like a scared rabbit. It is important for you to evaluate a situation from a completely logical, intellectual and emotional perspective. You also listen to both sides of a situation and are impartial. Some people think you are also judgmental (not in a bad way) and fair. You have a more passive aggressive and not too vocal side. You don't show yourself too much and don't try to shine according to people. Also, people think that you have a hard time understanding your emotions. Or your emotions overshadow your thoughts and make you completely clueless.
Maybe your horoscope is dominated by Taurus. You give off that vibe. You have a unique light that shines on its own, according to people. You don't need anyone, and even if you do, you only get help from people you love and are close to. Your family and group are important to you. Your living space is important, and wherever you live, you make it your own habitat. If someone were to harm your group or someone you love, you could become a scary person.

2
People see you as a cat. You are noble and not easily captured. Your feelings are strong and you choose carefully who you go to or approach. You have self-confidence and are not afraid to express your own truth. People may find this side of you brutal at times, but you are strong and that is very attractive. You don't have a hard time leaving a relationship or an event behind. Because you are always open to new options and you don't get attached to people more than necessary. You don't give too much of yourself in your romantic relationships. Everything should be equal for you. The other person should be equal to you. This is the only way they can gain your attention. People see that you have a strong side as well. You can turn into a lion when necessary.
People think you have unexpected sides. Sometimes you wear the most incredible clothes and display the most unusual behaviors according to them. You have sides that cannot be put into a mold. You know when to say what and you are a good speaker. You express yourself very well but you do not talk unnecessarily. You usually work smart, not too much for them, but some people may consider this aspect of you as lazy. But you can usually get everything you want because you can turn into a strong and smart leader whenever you want. You can go to paths that people would never choose, and you are brave. You are always in search of something new, and discovery never ends for you.

3
People see you as a pure and clean-hearted person. Maybe you have gone through a lot of hardships and changes in your life. Or people see you that way. People see that you may have lost a lot of things or people you love. Yet despite everything, you are pure and even naive according to some.
People find you naturally beautiful. You don't even need to use a lot of makeup because your own beauty always shines through. You are not afraid to share your inner self with people and you always share your love with them. Maybe you even share your precious belongings and memories with people. People see that you have a romantic soul and even a little childish because you have eyes that can see the beauty of life at any moment and despite everything. You left all the difficulties behind you and created a brand new life for yourself and the universe is helping this, people are aware of this. According to people, you enjoy buying new things and perhaps even collecting. You can notice even the smallest and most forgotten beauties for people and you make life beautiful and fun. You also have an adventurous side. In a childish way. You do not get into unnecessary fights and ego games. According to people, you are someone who needs to be protected and multiplied.

reader gender is not mentioned, reader not specified to be yuu
Tumblr media
VERY COMPETITIVE
if he catches you trolling it’s on sight. he takes this game very seriously, and refuses to get anything lower than 3rd. when you play together and ask to duo, he carries. you’ll see him with the most impressive and beautiful outfit you’ve ever seen and watch him lose his mind when he gets 5th. he spams poses, like in full concentration mode. also a very harsh critic. if he sees you off theme it’s an immediate 1 star, no exceptions. anytime he critiques your outfit you feel like an office worker with an overly harsh boss that demands better. he also probably has VIP. and beef with 10 year olds. (so think of when caseoh plays, but less yelling)
riddle, azul, jamil, vil, rollo
PLAYED IT AS A JOKE : IS NOW HOOKED
at first he thought it was just a dumb and silly dress up game for girls.. boy was he wrong. when he first played with you, he was expecting to hate this game to its core. he was a troller at first, purposefully making dumb outfits that don’t even match, barely adding anything to his outfit at all. suddenly, something in his mind flipped, and now he’s addicted. you’ll catch him sometimes playing his free time, teasing someone like him for playing a dress up game. not that you have room to talk. duos are fun, he likes being partners with you. he’s probably the kind of guy to vote everyone one star and then vote you five, but he expects five stars in return.
deuce, ruggie, epel, idia, skully j. graves
LOVES THE GAME
he’s played this before, he loves it! dressing up in cute outfits and watching other people dress up in cute outfits? why wouldn’t he play? and to play with you? that’s even better! wouldn’t be as competitive as the first category, but does take the game seriously. he doesn’t despise trolls, actually laughs at them sometimes. he does find it unfair they make the podium sometimes, but it’s really just a game. he loves duoing with you and wearing matching outfits, absolutely adorable! he either votes pretty fairly or votes everyone five stars depending on who they are. please play more with him, he loves this game!
cater, kalim, rook, ortho, lilia, neige
NOT THAT INTERESTED
what’s the appeal to it? it’s just playing dress up, nothing special. he’ll play once in awhile with you, but don’t expect it to be a regular thing. it’s just not his cup of tea. obviously since he doesn’t play often, his outfits are subpar. nothing podium worthy. votes pretty fairly, giving criticism and critique on other people’s outfits (though his aren’t that much better). he doesn’t mind being a duo with you, but you definitely carry. personally he thinks trollers are ruining the game and making it annoying for those who play religiously. overall, just a dress up game. would play but only if you play too.
trey, leona, jack, sebek, silver
THE TROLLER
is that one guy who has nothing on their character and walks onto the stage with no hair or makeup. skin tone is still at the default, colors on the clothes are unchanged, and it’s all on purpose too! would dress up in dumb outfits for a completely different theme and loves watching people argue about it in the chat. votes everybody one star because they’re just silly like that! absolutely cackles if he gets on the podium and loves watching the server get into fights about it. you don’t duo with him, you know better. loved playing with you, but it doesn’t seem the feeling is mutual.
ace, jade, floyd, che’nya
HOW TO POWER HANDHELD DEVICE
teach him how to use a phone first. doesn’t know how to log in to his account. when he joins the game, poor baby kept running into walls trying to put on shoes. outfits are usually incomplete or unchanged because he doesn’t know how to take off accessories or how to put them on. votes fair enough, but doesn’t ever make the podium. if you ask to duo, you’ll have to teach him cause he also doesn’t know about that either. basically just a big man baby who needs help using technology for the first time.

wait for your love - cl16
Tumblr media
pairing: arranged marriage!charles x fem!reader summary: in which you're in a fake marriage OR you and your fake husband might be in love with one another warnings: none?? no smut in this part (SORRY), badly translated french (pls correct me), NOT PROOFREAD!, angst, pining???, jealousy, complicated feelings word count: 3.6k author's note: I'm still unsure how i feeeeel about this one but I tried my best!! I think writing about an arranged marriage is a little hard because i didnt want it to be mafia related so this was my take on it. there will be a second part!! i also want to mention that all these separate parts are just events that are little peaks into their marriage. it is not in the span of a week or anything, it takes place over time. they do not go from nothing to being in love in the span of one week. just wanted to make sure you guys were aware of that LOL. ok love u all. sorry if this sucks.
✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ ✦ . ⁺ . ✦ . ⁺ . ✦
THE MARRIAGE WAS merely a façade, designed solely to serve the interests of both of your media images. You weren’t in love—far from it…right?
“Charles! How are you and the beautiful Mrs. doing?” A reporter placed a microphone in his face, an eager grin pulled on his lips as he awaited an answer.
“Elle est tellement merveilleuse, n’est-ce pas?” She’s so wonderful, isn’t she? His gaze strayed from the reporter to where you stood a few feet down the carpet, posing for the dozens of cameras. “Tellement belle.”So beautiful.
His eyes remained transfixed on you, the rest of the world fading into insignificance as he watched you approach. The chatter of the reporter beside him became distant background noise, overshadowed by the sight of your radiant smile. With each step you took closer, a surge of warmth flooded through him, causing his heart to swell with an overwhelming sense of anticipation. Charles turned back to the reporter just as he said “Looks like she is making her way over here!”
“Salut beau gosse!” Hi handsome! You gently press your lips to his cheek, the warmth of your smile radiating as Charles’ face lights up upon feeling your kiss. His hand finds its place on the small of your back, a comforting and possessive touch that speaks volumes of his affection and protectiveness towards you. A united front.
“You guys are seriously too cute!”
The both of you smile largely at the reporter, thanking him, before heading down the carpet to enter the movie premiere.
It wasn’t until you crossed through the main doors of the building that you drop the smile, and his hand drops from the small of your back.
“Tellement crédule.” So gullible. He utters the words briefly, prompting a nod from you before you take a small, deliberate step back, putting some distance between the two of you.
-
You learned early into the arrangement that Charles wasn’t capable of love. His heart seemed barricaded behind the walls of his ambition, his sole focus on climbing up the ladder of success in his career. It seemed easy at first though, it’s not like the either of you had any feelings for each other.
“Assez!” Charles roared from behind his imposing oak desk, his voice echoing through the room. “That’s enough!” His words cut through the tense atmosphere like a thunderclap, commanding your attention and halting any further discourse with an authority that brooked no argument.
With a subtle roll of your eyes, the delicate sundress draped over your form swayed gracefully with each purposeful step towards his desk. His gaze, cold and piercing, met yours as you reached out, your fingertips lightly grazing the polished wood surface. Leaning in just slightly, you locked eyes with him.
“Je vais me répéter une fois de plus,” I will repeat myself once more. You declared, your tone carrying a hint of assertiveness. Tracing the edge of the desk with a meticulously manicured nail, you maintained your composure, refusing to yield under his scrutinizing stare. “You need to be more careful in public.”
Your cheeks flushed red with frustration, a stark contrast against the determined set of your jaw. Despite the tension, Charles couldn’t help but be captivated by just how stunning you appeared in that moment. He couldn’t tell if he hated you or just wanted to fuck you.
He scoffed before reclining back in his chair, the top buttons of his shirt carelessly undone. His tousled hair appeared as if he had run his hands through it a dozen times—or perhaps someone else had.
He watched as your eyes traced along his disheveled hair and the partially undone buttons of his shirt, a knowing smirk playing on his lips. “Jealous, mon ange?” He teased; voice laced with amusement. Now it was your turn to scoff.
Mon ange. Him and that stupid nickname.
“Jamais.” Never. You replied firmly, your tone leaving no room for doubt as you turned around. With a subtle sway of your dress, it raised slightly, offering him a glimpse of the lace set beneath it. Without another word, you walked out of the room, leaving him to ponder just how badly he wanted to remove that dress from your body.
He always resented how you seemed impervious to his charms. No matter his efforts, you remained aloof, seemingly untouched by his presence. It bothered him to no end. To him, you were an epitome of perfection, a constant reminder of his own shortcomings.
-
“Es-tu affamé?” Are you hungry?
You didn’t care if he was. You just needed to distract yourself from the fact he never came home last night. From the fact that he came home obviously smelling like another woman.
The marks on his neck had your throat feeling tight. Marks from another woman. Marks on your husband.
You tried your best to ignore the dark purple marks littered on his neck, and the tiredness in his eyes as he plopped down on the chair across from you. The umbrella in the center of the table, protecting you both from the bright sun as you sit beside the pool.
“Non, simplement fatigué.” Just tired.
You nodded slowly, your movements languid as you bit into a strawberry, its juices trickling carelessly past your lips and trailing down your neck in a sensuous cascade.
Charles couldn’t help but allow his gaze to follow the path of the juice, his eyes tracing its journey down your neck, almost reaching the enticing curve of your breasts.
You made no effort to wipe away the trail of juice, the glistening droplets lingering on your skin like a tantalizing invitation. With a knowing smile, you relish in the anticipation, fully aware of the effect it had on Charles. Men, they’re too easy.
“You should cover up those marks.” You bit into the rest of the strawberry, before standing from the table, preparing to dip into the pool. Charles hands reached out as you walked by him, his fingers dipping into the strings of the bikini bottoms at your hips.
His touch seared through you like a branding iron, leaving a scorching trail of sensation in its wake.
“Est-ce que ç ate derange?” Does it bother you? He looked up at you, his face serious.
The words felt like lead in your throat, heavy with unspoken truth. It didn’t bother you, did it? But deep down, it gnawed at you like a persistent ache, an undeniable discomfort you refused to acknowledge.
“No.” You attempted to push out of his grip, to no avail. “Lâche-moi.” Let go of me. He didn’t.
Never, is what he wanted to say.
“What’s wrong?” He questioned; his eyebrows scrunched as he looked up at you from his chair.
Your hands slipped around his wrists that rested on your hips. “Rien ne va pas.” Nothing is wrong. He cocked his head to the side, as if to say liar. You finally pull out of his grasp, walking towards the pool and jumping in.
End of discussion.
-
“Did you really need to eye fuck her the whole night?” You half-shouted in the passenger seat of his car, the cool leather seats contrasting with the warmth of your bare thighs clad in the mini skirt.
“Did you really take that guy’s number?” He half-shouted back, his hands gripped tightly on the steering wheel.
“What’s wrong with taking his number?”
There was nothing wrong with taking his number. You both agreed you can date other people if it was kept under the wraps. But despite the coolness of the leather against your skin, it did little to quell the agitation simmering within Charles.
Perhaps it was the rarity of you into dating others. It wasn’t that you couldn’t attract men; in fact, men often vied for your attention. Rather, it was your own inclination against one-night stands that set you apart. Charles concluded in that moment that this must be the reason for his discomfort. And considering you had finally shown interest in someone, did it imply he was special?
“Tout le monde remarque!” Everyone noticed!  He spat out the words, unable to conjure a coherent response in his frustration. Deep down, he knew there was nothing inherently wrong with simply exchanging numbers.
You laughed, a carefree melody that seemed to dance through the car, causing you to lean forward over your lap. The casualness of your reaction grated against Charles, intensifying his frustration. How could you be so nonchalant about accepting another man’s number? The knot of unease in his stomach tightened, gnawing at him with a persistence he couldn’t comprehend.
“So?” You turned towards him; his eyes were focused solely on the road. “It’s not like I fucked him in front of everybody.”
Charles head snapped briefly towards you; his eyes narrowing with sharp intensity. The mere thought of you being intimate with another man felt like nails scraping against a chalkboard, setting his teeth on edge with raw, visceral discomfort.
Why was he so bothered? It’s not like he doesn’t fuck other girls.
-
“Où vas-tu?” Where are you going? You found yourself stood in the archway of the kitchen; Charles leaned against the kitchen island with a glass of water in his hand.
His eyes trailed down your figure, a short black dress that hugged your curves. He felt his patience wearing thin as he watched you engrossed in your phone screen, fingers tapping away and a large smile on your face.
Who were you texting?
“Hm?” You said, still smiling down at your screen. “Où vas-tu?” He egged on, his tone dripping with impatience at your lack of an answer.
“Oh, j’ai un rendez-vous.” I have a date. You tore your gaze away from the screen for the first time since you came downstairs. Lifting your eyes, you met Charles with an infectious smile spreading across your face. The sheer warmth and joy emanating from you caused Charles’s heart to momentarily falter in its rhythm.
A date? He felt sick.
Charles remained silent for a few moments, his grip tightening around the glass in his hand betraying the turmoil within him. The sudden crash of the glass hitting the kitchen floor startled you both, causing a shared flinch as shards slid across the tiled surface.
“What about my event tonight?” He disregarded the broken glass around him, his attention consumed by the word “date” echoing relentlessly in his mind.
“Pretend I’m sick or something,” You tilt your head in confusion. “You’ve gone to events without me before.”
It wasn’t until you went to make a step towards the broken glass that Charles snapped out of it. “Don’t come near, tu pourrais te faire mal.” You could get hurt.
The words made you stop in your tracks and your heart clench slightly.
“Je dois y aller.” I must go.
Your eyes meet Charles one last time, you offer him a small smile before pulling your phone to your ear and answering it with a smile.
Leaving Charles alone in the kitchen, the lingering question of when this feeling would dissipate hung heavily in the air.
“Je ne veux pas que tu partes.” I don’t want you to go. He muttered to nobody but himself in the empty house.
-
You went on a relentless series of dates since then, each time returning home with a grin that seemed to mock Charles. He longed to wipe that smug smile off your face, but deep down, all he truly desired was to see you genuinely happy. Yet, the idea of your happiness being derived from someone else filled him with a sense of dread he couldn’t shake.
One night, Charles felt his sanity slipping as he anxiously waited for your return, each passing minute amplifying his restlessness. Was this what you did when he was away?
His unease peaked when you finally walked through the door well past noon, wearing a smile that seemed out of place and with your hair tousled, a stark departure to your usual pristine appearance. A faint, barely perceptible mark gracing your collarbone served as Charles’ triggering a tumult of emotions within him.
“Did you fuck him?” His voice was gruff as he walked up to you by the front door, essentially cornering you between the front door and his body.
Your eyes widened at his tone and question.
“Cela ne te regarde pas!” That’s none of your business! You shouted, your finger pressing into his chest.
His eyes blazed with fury, the green in them almost appearing black. “C’est tout à fait de mon affaire!” It’s all of my business!
He was aware of his irrationality, but despite that knowledge, he couldn’t shake the overwhelming emotions stirring within him. All he wanted was for the burning ache in his chest to subside.
“Ce n’est pas juste.” That’s not fair. You countered, your narrowed eyes reflecting your simmering anger, your chest flushing red with frustration as you breathed heavily.
“Tu es ma femme.” You are my wife. He folded his arms firmly across his chest, the sinewy muscles of his biceps straining against the fabric of his shirt, emphasizing his imposing presence.
You rolled your eyes, “C’est faux.” It’s fake. The words almost hurt to say aloud.
“Is it?” His words were short as he looked down at you, his gaze unfaltering, almost begging you to admit that there is something between you two.
“Oui.”
You pushed past him, rushing up the stairs and slamming your bedroom door shut.
-
You didn’t always fight though. There were good and bad days. Almost like a real marriage, right?
“Mon ange, wear the blue one.” His voice came from a distance as he sat on the edge of your bed, surrounded by the chaos of your closet. You felt a sense of panic wash over you, unable to find solace in any garment you tried on. You couldn’t even decide on a color.
“You always look good in that one, yeah?” He continued; his tone almost absentminded. Despite your turmoil, his words elicited a small smile, causing a faint blush to rise on your cheeks. Grateful that he couldn’t witness your reaction, you silently thanked whatever higher power existed. You vowed never to let him see you blush from his words.
You stepped out from your closet a few moments later, the blue silk dress that left little to the imagination of your breasts, with a small thankful smile on your face. Charles felt his hands itching to touch you as you leaned over the vanity, applying a last coat of lip gloss.
“Prête?” Ready? You turned back towards him, the small pebble of your nipples poking through the thin fabric, a sight that momentarily arrested Charles’s attention. With an effort, he tore his gaze away, clearing his throat discreetly before nodding in response and leading you out the house.
“Pourquoi cela?” What is this for? You quickly ask about the purpose of tonight over the low murmur of the radio as Charles pulls into the valet area of the event.
“It’s for charity,” He swung open his car door, the faint sound of camera clicks filling the air in the moment it remained ajar before he swiftly closed it again. With a sense of urgency, he hurried around the car to open your door, his movements a flurry of activity as he sought to ensure your comfort.
Tonight, he remained steadfastly by your side, his attention solely focused on you, his wife. He didn’t allow his gaze to wander, even as other females vied for his attention with near desperation. It was a departure from his usual behavior, as if he finally decided to listen to your complaints.
“Tu es magnifique.” You look beautiful. He muttered into your ear, his words meant for you alone, shielded from prying cameras. It caught you off guard—a genuine compliment, untainted by presence of the reporters or observers.
-
“Mon ange, regarde tes cheveux!” Look at your hair! Charles laughter filled the kitchen, reverberating off the walls with a hearty resonance. It wasn’t long until you joined in, your laughter mixing with his in symphony. The sight of both of you covered in flour from your baking rendezvous added a touch of whimsy to the moment, the white powder dusting your hair like a playful snowfall.
You stepped closer towards him, a playful pout forming on your lips, while he looked down at you with a twinkle in his vibrant green eyes. The intensity of the green hue in his eyes was so striking that it caused your stomach to flutter with nervous anticipation.
You noticed his eyes briefly flicker to your lips before meeting with yours again. A silent ask.
His flour dusted fingertips rested against your jaw, holding your face in the palm of his hands, while his eyes flickered to your lips again.
“Laisse-moi t’embrasser, s’il te plait.” Let me kiss you, please. His words were so quiet, as if you both were secluded in your own bubble. You didn’t answer as your eyes trailed all over his face. As if you weren’t sure if you heard him correctly.
“Ne me fais pas supplier.” Don’t make me beg.
He could feel the rapid pace of your heart, almost beating out of your chest as he uttered the words. You nodded in response, but before you could even finish the nod, his lips crashed into yours.
It was anything but gentle. As if, you both had waited years to be able to do this without a camera in your presence.
His tongue slipped into your mouth almost instantly, eliciting a soft moan that escaped your lips and melded with his own. He groaned in response, his arms encircling your waist to draw you closer, pressing you flush against his chest before guiding your back against the messy countertop. One hand found its place against the nape of your neck and jawline, holding your head in place with gentle insistence. Meanwhile, the other hand tenderly played with the ends of your hair before wrapping them around his fist, holding your hair firmly yet tenderly.
“Si doux.” So sweet. He murmured against your lips; his breath warm against your skin as he continued to savor the moment.
Your hands instinctively wrapped around his biceps, holding him close, though he showed no inclination to pull his body away from yours.
His lips trailed along your jawline as he pulled the ends of your hair, lulling you head back to give him more access to your neck. Another soft moan left your lips, escaping into the kitchen, as he sucked on the spot where that mark once was.
“Drive me crazy, mon ange.” He muttered against your skin, peppering kisses along your neck, along your jawline, until he met your lips again with a soft peck.
Your eyes met his and you could’ve sworn you would’ve dropped to your knees right then and there for him.
The distant ring of a cell phone was heard in the background, immediately causing you to push him away from you. Your cellphone.
You looked at Charles with a sense of panic. What were you doing?
As if Charles could sense that panic, he brushed off the pain with a small smile. “Tu devrais répondre à ça.” You should answer that.
-
You didn’t see Charles for a few days following the kiss.
“Que fais-tu ici?” What are you doing here? Charles eyebrows were furrowed as he took in your figure standing before him, an unnamed bag in hand.
You shook the bag in your hand, “Déjeuner.” Lunch. You waved the bag around like it was no big deal. Like you didn’t come all the way to Maranello to bring your fake husband lunch.
You found yourself unsure of the exact reason behind your actions, yet you did it anyways. With Charles away for the past few days, leaving you alone at home, a peculiar sense of longing seemed to linger in the air. Though you refused to admit it outright, all indications hinted at a quiet, yearning for his presence that you got so accustomed to over time.
“Tu n’avais pas besoin de le faire.” You didn’t need to. A smile pulled on his lips as he slung his arm over your shoulder, grateful for the sight of you.
“Je m’ennuyais.” I was bored. You confessed with a shrug, a hint of sheepishness coloring your tone.
He pulled you into an empty room, wordlessly. Instructing you to take a seat as he grabbed two waters from the nearby fridge.
“Comment se passe le travail?” How’s work? You asked, although your inquiry was more out of habit than genuine interest. Since the kiss, you found yourself at a loss for how to engage with him, unsure of how to navigate the shifting dynamics between you two.
He chuckled softly, choosing to settle into a chair beside you rather than sitting across from you, as if he wanted to be close to you. “Tu m’as manqué.” I missed you. He confessed quietly, his tone revealing a vulnerability he rarely displayed with you.
The tips of your ears flushed with a rosy hue in response to his confession, a shy smile tugging at the corners of your lips. Your gaze softened as you reached into the bag, delicately arranging the food on the table before him, each movement infused with a tenderness that spoke volumes.
“C’est bon.” It’s okay. He muttered, a silent acknowledgment passing between you two. “I know you missed me too.”  A smirk pulled on his lips as you shoved his shoulder half-heartedly.
You didn’t deny it.

ANYWAYS Idiyuu is Hades and Persephone conspiracy:
Persephone is not from the Underworld. She is called back to the Mortal Realm eventually because she has to return. Yuu is literally from another world. They are not suited to Twisted Wonderland, and are nothing like Idia has ever seen. They have to go back eventually.
Hades is probably one of the few TWST boys to have a “canon” spouse (at least in Greek mythology, which Hercules’ Hades is obviously based on). On top of that, Hades and Persephone is the love story between death and life, isolation and abundance, ending and rebirth. Idia is a gloomy, pessimistic boy who has been condemned to be the keeper of the Underworld. Yuu is a kind, gentle prefect who has been there to help and has helped everyone they know, again and again.
Night Raven College has been in a ‘winter’ for all of its history. Everyone is hostile to everyone, no one wants to cooperate or work together, and every single person there has some ulterior motive. In comes Yuu, who is a breath of fresh air. A new perspective. A new season. They bring ‘spring,’ showing people that they can bloom. They can harbor feelings that aren’t cruel. They can do things that aren’t harsh. And slowly, they start to thaw. Flowers of friendship and something gentler bloom. Yuu is there to help pull the boys from their darkest moments to see the light again. Idia is no exception.
I think that the way Book 6 was set up makes Idia and Yuu seem a lot more meaningful honestly, though I'm probably reading way too into things lol. Yuu originally goes to the Island of Woe to save Grim. They don’t particularly care much about what’s going on with Idia—they just want to get Grim back. But then later, once they realize what’s going on, they do. There isn’t much, if any, personal connection to Idia’s overblot like there was with all the others. Yuu doesn’t have to do anything to help. And yet, they still do. Even after Idia basically kidnapped Grim, they still help him. They still try to end his winter.
Persephone, in many forms of the myth, didn't originally go to the Underworld willingly. But eventually, she came to love Hades, and they were happy together. Idia and Yuu have no reason to care about the other at first. But they eventually do, after everything that happens and everything that brings them together.
Hades and Persephone are in a constant push and pull. Persephone has to leave because if she stays, winter will never end. She does not want to leave, because she loves Hades. Yuu has to leave Twisted Wonderland, because they have a home beyond it that they need to return to. And yet, they don't want to leave because they love Idia. Idia doesn't want them to go, because it finally feels like spring again. But the seasons have to continue in their cycle, so what can they do?
Also, I think it’s really funny and really beautiful how Idia and Yuu’s first meeting was probably the Ghost Marriage event. This guy who thinks he has 0 rizz ends up having to be saved by some strange new isekai'd student and their gang of potential suitors before he gets his first kiss and promptly dies afterwards. Idia, the boy surrounded by death, is saved by the prefect who seems to be giving everyone a new chance at life. Imagine how poetic it’d be if Yuu and Idia end up getting married in the end, except now neither of them are going to die and they have the rest of their new lives together. There will be winter, but there will also be spring. The cycle of seasons will continue, but flowers will always bloom. They will always return to each other.

A BRIDGE TO CROSS | alessia russo x child!reader
wow this is a long one, so i hope when reading this your comfy! i did decide to put the flashback in here and if any other questions arise from please ask away. also lovie’s not really in this one till later on, its more focused on alessia for once rather than lovie — but don’t worry she’s in it a little later on.
all that’s left from me is to say enjoy!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
grumpy masterlist
a late afternoon sun spilled through the windows of alessia's kitchen, painting the room in a soft glow. the hum of life surrounding her as she answered a few work emails she hadn't had a chance to reply to yet while nursing a cup of now warm coffee.
you, sat across the living room floor, in alessia's eyeline from the open plan area as you hummed off-key with crayons sprawled across the floor. the floor being a chaotic masterpiece of mismatched papers, open markers and alessia's worst enemy at the moment, glitter glue.
alessia had been trying to focus on the emails from her agency on upcoming media appearances and events but her gaze kept drifting to her phone which sat beside her coffee mug like a ticking time bomb.
the message had arrived out of nowhere, a text message from harrison reed, her ex boyfriend from college who also happened to be your biological father.
alessia didn't even have the slightest idea on how he could of managed to get her phone number, it being reserved for only those closest to her. it had been years since she'd even though about hearing from him and yet, there it was. five words long.
(maybe harrison) | ‘i want to meet her.’
the words sat heavy in her chest, replaying over and over in her mind. she'd read the message half a dozen times already, trying to decode its intent. trying to figure out if it was genuine or another empty promise she'd have to shield her daughter from.
across the room, you were a picture of joy. your own little personality as you chatted away to yourself. you were drawing again, as always, your tiny hands gripping a purple crayon.
alessia smiling to herself faintly as she watched you press on the paper a little too hard as your tongue stuck out in concentration.
"mummy, look!" you chirped up as you sat up onto your knees holding up your creation, a stick figure with wild hair standing beside a lopsided house. "it's you and me!"
alessia chuckled softly, setting her coffee down to admire the drawing, "it's beautiful lovie, your getting to be quite the artist!”
you beamed as your face lit up, "i'm going to draw esme next" you announced grabbing the elephant teddy with such enthusiasm.
alessia leaned back on the seat she was sat at, her heart tightening. you were everything to her. she'd fought so hard to you a life filled with love and to shield you from the shadows of the past.
and now, he wanted to come back. and alessia was sure if she could trust him, especially not after how he reacted when she told him.
five years ago.
alessia was sat on the edge of the bathtub in her cramped dorm bathroom, the stick trembling in her hand. she had re-read the result at least ten times. her chest tightening with every glance at the small plus sign.
pregnant.
pressing a hand to her mouth, willing herself not to cry. but her thoughts raced: she was nearly four thousand miles away from home, her scholarship, her dreams of playing professionally.
everything she had spent years working for felt like it was slipping through her fingers.
the sound of her phone buzzing on the counter was what jolted her out of her spiralling thoughts. it was him, harrison. staring a the screen as her stomach twisted in knots.
she hadn't even told him she'd been late this month. he didn't know she'd been panicking all week, buying test after test after practice and waiting for her dorm to be empty before she even dared to use it.
taking a deep breath, she pressed the green button, answering him. "hey less," harrison said his voice easy and light, "what's up?"
her throat felt dry, but she forced the words out, "can you come over? i need to talk to you"
"sure, is everything okay?"
"just..come over- please harrison"
alessia had met harrison through a party in her first year at the unc campus, he a bit like her had a athlete scholarship but his was for football not soccer.
the two had been off and on for a few months before they became official at the end of her freshman year.
the two were a good couple, harrison looked out for alessia and she thought she loved him but maybe that was just because he was her first love — he definitely wasn't the one for her.
when harrison showed up fifteen minutes later, his hoodie pulled up against the chilly evening air, a plastic bag no doubt filled with snacks he'd grabbed from the local store.
alessia sat in the edge of her bed, her hands wriggling nervously in her lap. harrison leaned against the doorframe, his expression puzzled by the shear look on his girlfriends face.
"alright, what's going on? you look like you've seen a ghost" his american accent cutting through the room like a knife. alessia looking up at him as she tried to think of the best way to say it.
biting her lip as her heart pounded in her chest. she didn't know how to start so she just held up the pregnancy test, her hands trembling.
harrison froze, his easy and chilled demeanour evaporating, "is that...?"
she nodded, "i'm pregnant" she said it barely coming out above a whisper.
he scoffed, as he stared at her his face totally unreadable. before he laughed a short, disbelieving sound. "your joking right, like this is one of those weird youtube pranks?" he asked spinning his head around to look around for a camera.
"it's not a joke harrison."
his expression immediately changed, "you can't be serious less, we're still in college. we aren't ready for this-"
"do you not think i don't already realise that!" she snapped, her voice breaking, "do you think i haven't thought about how this is going to change everything?"
harrison let out a loud sigh as he paced the small room, "so.. what are you going to do?" he asked as alessia glanced at him with a blank expression, "you're not actually planning on keeping it, are you?"
alessia's stomach churned at his words, "it's not 'it" harrison. it's a baby, our baby."
he stopped, his face paling, "less you've got a scholarship, you've got a great future ahead of you, you can't throw it away for this?"
her voice wavered, but she stood her ground. "i haven't decided yet, but if i keep the baby, it's not 'throwing my future away'"
harrison shook his head, his tone a lot colder now, "you're not thinking straight. just figure it out.. alright and let me know what you decide."
and without another beat or word, harrison left. leaving alessia alone in the suffocating silence.
it had been two weeks since alessia had found out she was pregnant and the decision of what to do had been weighing on her both mentally and physically.
she'd hardly slept, her thoughts consumer by the enormity of what was ahead. but after breaking silence with her family and them offering her their undying support.
with many sleepless nights on the phone to her mum, she knew what she wanted. for both her and her baby.
she was going to keep the baby.
the clarity didn't make facing harrison any easier. she had spent the morning rehearsing in her head what to say, trying to figure out what his reaction would be.
arriving at his dorm, it not being too far of a walk from hers. hesitantly she lifted her hand hovering over the door before finally knocking.
harrison answered quickly, his expression guarded, "hey, you alright?" he asked pulling the blonde into a side hug as he kissed the top of her head.
"can..we talk?" alessia asked, stepping to the side to sit on the couch before he could respond. not wanting to give herself the chance to back out.
he closed the door behind her, crossing his arms as he leant against the wall, he knew exactly what the conversation was about to be had. "so have you figured it out?"
alessia frowned at the casual tone in his voice as if this wasn't a serious conversation but she forced herself to stay calm knowing an argument right now would not be the best thing, "yeah i have. i'm keeping the baby."
harrison's eyes widened briefly clearly not the answer he was hoping or expecting as his brow furrowed deeper. "less, come on. think for a moment. your only twenty, we're still in college. your finally getting noticed by the senior teams, and football is going well for me. you can't seriously think this is a good idea-"
her jaw tightened, "it's my decision, harrison. i've thought about it and this is what i want. i'm keeping my baby"
he scoffed, running a hand through his hair, "are you hearing yourself right now. how are you supposed to raise a kid at your age, it's insane less"
"i'll figure it out" alessia snapped her voice firm despite the lump in her throat. "i have my family. i don't need you to like it, harrison. but i just need you to know this is happening"
he stared at her for a long moment, his expression hardening as he let out a loud sigh, "look i'm not ready for this" he said his voice cold and clipped. "i can't be a dad, less. not yet anyway"
alessia felt something in her chest pang, the hurt cutting a littler deeper than she expected. but beneath the pain a fierce determination began to take roots she straightened her back meeting his gaze head on.
"ok" she said shrugging, her voice steady, "if you don't want to be involved, you won't be. but know this, my baby deserves better than someone who walks away when things get hard."
harrison opened his mouth as if to argue, but alessia shook her head stopping him. not wanting her hear anything else from the boy.
"i don't want anything from you, harrison. not your money, not your time, nothing. from now we're done. me and my baby won't have anything to do with you."
her words hung in the air like a challenge and for a moment alessia thought he may change his mind, say something and protest her stern words.
but he didn't, he just sighed shoving his hands into his pockets, "if that's what you want"
alessia's heart ached at his indifference, the memories built flooding into her mind but she refused to let him see her cry. without another word she turned and walked out of his dorm door.
walking along the dimly lit door corridor, the cool air hitting her face as she let out a shaky breath. a wave of reality hitting her like a brick as tears pricked at her eyes but she quickly wiped them away angrily.
"i promise we'll be better without him" she whispered to herself, placing a protective hand over her stomach.
in that moment, alessia made a silent promise to herself and her unborn baby: she would give them a life filled with love and supports. they mightn't have their father to turn to but they would never feel unloved.
and alessia would make sure of it.
that evening, alessia was sat in the familiar comfort of her parents' living room. her hands curled around a mug of tea. the walls were adorned with family photos — memories of holidays, birthdays and days out which were always loud and full of love.
it had always been her safe haven, but tonight, it felt anything but safe.
you had spent the evening in the kitchen with your nonna, helping to make dinner which had been a favourite of yours. making faces on everyone's pizzas with the toppings.
you were now in dream land having difted to sleep in your mummy's arms as you watched the tv.
alessia's parents, mario and carol as well as her older brothers gathered around her each wearing a different expression after hearing the news of who was back.
mario sat forward in his chair, elbows on him knees as his brow furrowed in deep though. carol was perched on the couch beside alessia as she gave a comforting hand on her knee in quiet support.
while her brothers, giorgio and luca across the room sat side by side with their arms crossed and a protective energy glowing from them almost tangible.
alessia's dad broke the silence first, his voice steady but soft. "so to get it straight, after four years, harrison out the blue wants to meet tiny?"
alessia nodded, her hands tightening around her mug. "that's what he says, somehow he got my number and messaged me yesterday"
"but he hasn't been around at all" luca's voice was sharp cutting through the air like a blade, "so why are we even having this conversation. his actions speak louder than his words"
alessia hummed, she knew exactly what her brother was saying, heck she felt the same way. but for some reason the decision felt like such a difficult one.
her mum, carol sighed, giving alessia's hand a reassuring squeeze, "darling, i know this is complicated but.. maybe he's realised he made a mistake. people do change you know"
mario nodded in agreement, his expression thoughtful, "exactly what your mum says, it sounds like he's trying to take responsibility. and as much as you maybe wish it wasn't true but harrison is her father and she deserves the chance to know that"
alessia bit her lip, torn between her parents clam logic and her brothers silent fury. she couldn't deny that part of her wanted to believe harrison had changed that he could finally be the father figure you deserved but despite her parents words, alessia knew harrison better than them.
and she didn't know if she was exactly ready to gamble with your heart.
"you really think he deserves a chance, dad?" alessia asked still hesitant.
mario nodded slowly, "i do, i'm not saying forgive him overnight but you could always meet with him, if he's in london and talk to him. see if he's serious. if he's willing to show up for her now — that has to count for something."
a loud scoff could be then heard from luca, his arms tightening across his chest. "count for what? a pat on the back for finally doing what he should've been doing for the past four years-"
carol gave her eldest son a sharp look, "luca. don't make this harder than it already is for your sister."
but luca was unmoved in his opinion, "but mum, he walked away when less needed him most! and now he thinks he can just waltz back in like nothings happened!"
gio, who had been quieter of the two brothers, decided to add his opinion. his voice firm, "and what happens if he decides it's too hard for him and disappears again? think about what that'll do to lovie. she's too young to understand why her dad didn't stick around the first time."
alessia's throat tightened, like she was going to either be sick or pass out or maybe both. she'd had the same thoughts running through her mind all day.
"boys" mario said sharply cutting through the clear tension which was building. his tone carrying the weight of authority. "this isn't about us, it's about what's best for y/n and if harrison is serious don't you think she deserves to know him?"
luca scoffed, "only if he's serious," luca snapped sharply, "and that's a big if."
carol turned back to alessia, her expression softer now, "what do you think darling? do you believe he's changed?"
alessia let out a shaky breath, setting her mug down on the coffee table careful not to wake you as you slept peacefully in her arms. "i don't know mum, part of me wants to give him the benefit of the doubt but i can't risk lovie getting hurt. she's happy and she doesn't even know what's she missing."
"which is exactly why you should be careful," gio firmly said, her voice protective not only of his sister but also of his niece. "she doesn't know him. if you let him in and he screws up — she's the one whose going to get hurt and confused, not him."
the room fell into a tense silence, alessia's parents and brothers were split down the middle — her dad and mum urging caution but also the fact everyone deserves a second chance while her brothers were both adamant that harrison definitely wasn't even worthy of considering the opportunity.
finally mario broke the stalemate, "less, we can sit here and go back and forth but at the end of the day it's your decision. tiny is your daughter and whatever you choose, we'll support you.
alessia nodded slowly, her eyes stinging with she'd tears. she appreciated their support but it didn't make the decision any easier.
glancing down at your sleeping figure in her arms as you clutched the side of her hoodie in your hands, soft breaths coming from your lips. her heart aching as she thought about your bright, innocent and trusting smile.
whatever she decided, it had to be for your sake.
it was a few days since she'd been at her parents, going over her options and she was still no further forward on what to do so as she sat lying on her bed it was late and the house was quiet, you tucking up peacefully in bed and the world was quiet, but alessia's mind was anything but.
so as she lay on facetime to someone she hoped would be able to give her an honest and brutal opinion and not sugar coat it.
"so after four years he's just reached out, that's mad less" ella's thick accent came through the speaker as her brows furrowed as she adjusted the angle of her phone
alessia sighed running a hand through her freshly washed hair, "tell me about it. it's like where has he suddenly gotten the change of heart come from. i don't know if i can trust him, el"
ella's face softened, her usual playful smirk replaced with genuine concern, she'd seen the fallout after what happened. the state the blonde had been in when she came home from the states six months pregnant.
she was the only one who really knew the whole story. whether that was from late night chats or drunken confessions after one too many on a team night out.
"i mean i don't blame you, after all you've brought her up on your own. you've played both parents and he's just been.. well not here"
"exactly," alessia said her voice tight, "and now he want to meet her" alessia huffed expressing the same concerns about letting harrison back into your life like she did with her parents.
ella shifted, propping herself up on her elbows, "it normal that your feeling worried, but.. what if he's serious this time? people can change less. don't you think tiny deserves the chance to know her dad, even if it's just to see for herself what he's like?"
alessia frowned leaning back against the headboard of her bed. "but that's the thing, she's doesn't even know he exists. she's happy el and i've worked so hard to keep my promise to her and give her a good life"
"i know you have less," ella said softly, "but.. what if one day after school she asks about him. what are you going to tell her? that you wouldn't give him the chance"
alessia groaned quietly, covering her face with her hands. part of her wishing he had never even sent the message and then she wouldn't be in such a split state of mind. "i don't know! that's why i'm calling you. i don't know what to do."
ella was quiet for a moment, her expression deep in thought. "look i get your scared, heck i don't know sometimes how you manage everything you do. but i also know how much you love that little girl. you always put her first and this is no different."
ella paused as alessia nodded, hearing her best friend loud and clear, "maybe the answer isn't about trusting him— it's about trusting yourself. you'll know if it's the right thing to do."
alessia let out a small laugh, as she looked at the camera, "you make it sound so simple"
ella laughed lightly, "it's not simple, far from it. it's messy as hell. but your so strong, less. you've handled everything else life thrown at you and you'll handle this too. just.. don't rush it. start small and let him prove himself."
alessia let out a slow breath, the tension in her shoulders easing a little, "you really think i should give him a chance?"
ella's eyes softened as she let out a sigh, "i think you should do what feels right for tiny. but yeah maybe, give him a shot. if he messes up you'll know and you'll handle it. your her mum and there's no better at protecting her than you"
for the first time in a couple days a small smile tugged at alessia's lips, "thanks el, i don't know what i'd do without you."
ella grinned, her usual cheeky grin as her playful energy returned, "you'd probably just sit overthinking everything. good thing i'm always here to knock some sense into you"
alessia laughed, shaking her head, "your an idiot"
"and yet you still love me for it!" ella winked before stifling a yawn. "right go and get some sleep. you've got enough in your plate without being a total zombie tomorrow."
"and less," ella paused grabbing the blondes attention as she shuffled around her bed, "i'm proud of you" ella smiled softly as the two shared an understanding nod, knowing exactly what the other was saying without having to say a word.
"goodnight, el" alessia smiled her voice softer
"night, less. you've got this! oh, and give my favourite little russo a kiss from her auntie ella, i miss her” ella added with a pout as a small giggled came from alessia as she nodded telling her best friend she would do just that.
as the screen went dark, alessia leaned back against her pillows, staring up at the ceiling as ella's words replayed in her mind. for the first time since harrison's message, she felt the faintest flicker of clarity.
the cafe was small and tucked into a quiet corner of london, the last thing alessia wanted was for this to be in every media outlet going. so she chose a discreet location somewhere she wouldn't usually go.
the bell above the door jingled as she stepped inside, clutching her coat tightly around her. her eyes scanning the room until she saw him: harrison reed.
sat at a table by the window, his hands wrapped around what looked to be some sort of health smoothie filled with all the healthy greens.
his hair a little shorter than she remembered, not the messy moon of curls it was back in college as well as the light subtle on his jaw. a black shirt covering him as his arms where on show a lot more tattoos coving his arms than the blonde could recall from back in college.
he looked nervous — his knee bouncing under the table, his fingers tapping against the plastic cup. when he saw her, he stood quickly unsure what to do or how to greet the blonde so he stuck his hands into his pockets.
"alessia" he said his voice tentative.
alessia just gave him a curt nod as she forced herself to take a steadying breath. she walked towards him, her heart pouring in her chest.
as she reached the table, sliding into the seat across from him without a word, her posture rigid and far from relaxed.
harrison sat down slowly, his movements careful as if he was afraid of scaring her off. for a moment neither of them spoke. alessia kept her arms crossed tightly, her gaze fixed on him like a shield.
"do you want a dri-" harrison began but was quickly shut off by the blonde shaking her head, "-no, i'm not staying long. i have to pick lovie up at three"
the blonde glanced down at the time on her phone, thirty minutes. that it all she had to do was listen to him for thirty minutes. she could do that.
harrison just nodded, "well thanks for uh, meeting me" harrison finally said, stuttering over his words.
alessia's lips pressed into a thin line. "you said it was important."
he nodded, his eyes flickering to the smoothie in front of him before returning to her. "it is. i've.. i've been thinking about this for a while. reaching out, i mean. i know it's been too long. way too long"
her jaw tightened, "four years harrison. you haven't said anything in four years. you didn't even say anything after i went out my way to send you a message the day she was born"
he flinched slightly at the sharpness in her tone, guilt washing over his face. "i-i know i didn't and i hate myself for it alessia. i wasn't ready back then. i was..scared, stupid and i thought walking away was the right thing to do because i didn't think i could handle it."
alessia let out a bitter laugh, shaking her head. "the right thing? you left me to do it all alone, i was terrified too but i didn't get the luxury of running away"
alessia paused for a moment her voice a little shaky as she took a deep breath, "i had to figure it out alone — for her"
harrison's face fell as his hands tightened around the plastic cup, "i've let you down, both of you. and i know i'll never be able to make up for that. but i've changed alessia. i'm not the same selfish idiot i was back then"
she arched an eyebrow, skepticism radiating from her as she let out a scoff, "and now you try think you can just walk into her life and everything will be sunshine and rainbows? do you even understand what you're asking?"
harrison hesitated as his gaze dropped to the table, alessia continuing voicing her frustration, "and what happens when you go back to america"
harrison's head picked back up as he shook it, "i- i live here now. i have for the past year and a bit... football didn't work out for me not like the.. the way it did for you. i erm work for marketing firm now, the hours are long but it works" he shrugged and alessia nodded talking in the new information.
it didn't change a lot but it definitely changed something. harrison wasn't going to go away after a few months, especially now, not since he lived here too. alessia couldn't just forget him like she did before when he lived across the world.
"and i can't sit here and pretend to understand what it's been like for you. but i know i want to try. i want to be there for y/n even if it's just a small part. she deserves to know her dad"
the mention of your name coming from his lips made alessia's heart ache. your bright smile flashing in her mind, your endless curiosity and infectious laughter.
"she doesn't even know you exist" alessia said quietly, her voice cracking slightly, you had never really asked but alessia knew with each month that passed it was only a matter of time till you did. "she's happy and i've worked so hard to give her a life full of love and stability. i won't let you ruin that.
harrison's eyes filled with remorse, "i’m not here to ruin anything. i just want a chance. if i could erase the past i would in a heartbeat. but i know i can show up now. so please alessia, let me try and prove myself to you."
she studied for a long moment, searching his face for any hint of insincerity. there was a desperation in his eye but also something else — determination maybe even hope.
"this isn't about you." she said finally, her voice steady. "this is about it her and if you're not serious, if you mess this up. i'll never forgive you.
harrison nodded quickly, his expression earnest. "i understand and i swear i'm serious. i'll do whatever it takes to prove it to you."
alessia leaned back in her chair as her arms still crossed tightly. she wasn't ready to trust him, not yet, but she couldn't ignore the tiny voice in her head whispering 'what if he has changed?' 'what if this is his change to be the dad you deserve'
after a long pause, she sighed, "i need time to think about this and i'm not making any promises harrison."
"of course," he said quickly, a flash of shock going over his features at the blondes response, "take all the time you need, i'll wait."
she stood, reaching for her coat "this isn't just about meeting her. if i let you in, you have to stay. no backing out when things get hard. no disappearing acts and if you can't promise that then we might as well not even bother"
harrison rose to his feet, his posture uncertain but hopeful, "i promise alessia. i have a life here, i live here and have a steady job i promise i'm not going anywhere."
she didn't respond, simply pulling her coat tighter around herself as she nodded mumbling a quick "i'll be in touch" as she headed towards the door.
as she stepped outside and closer to her car in the cold air, she felt a swirl of emotions: anger, fear and deep down a faintest flicker of hope.
a few weeks had passed since alessia had met harrison in that cafe. after a few days of going back and forth with the idea and a few more conversations with her mum and ella.
she decided to give him the chance to know his daughter. giving harrison a call, him answering pretty much straight away his voice filled with hope as alessia asked when he would next be free along with another warning of the risk she was taking.
which lead to this warm sunday, and for once where alessia didn't have a match. the team having played on the friday night. as alessia and you walked through your local park which was only a short walk from your house.
the playground at the park was alive with laughter and the squeals of children running around in every direction.
alessia stopped for a moment as she leaned down to tie your shoelace again for you, standing back up as she gripped the straps of her bag tightly.
feeling her stomach churn as she glanced towards a bench in the distance, where harrison was sitting. his posture stiff as he sat with his hands clasped together.
beside her, you tugged at her hand excitedly. the eyes of your hair slightly curled bouncing up and down as you pointed towards the swings.
"mummy! can we go on the swings first?" you asked, your voice brimming with nothing but energy.
alessia forced a smile as she leant down to your level, "in a bit we can lovie, but first there's someone i would like you to meet"
your head tilted the side, curiosity filling your features as you wondered who it could be, "who?"
alessia swallowed hard, her throat dry, "he's... someone who would like to get to know you. his name is harrison"
before you could ask any more questions, alessia straightening up as her gaze met harrison's. he was already looking over, waving alessia over as she could sense his nervous energy practically radiating from him.
alessia taking your hand and starting to walk towards him, her heart pounding with every step.
as they approached, harrison offered a small and tentative smile. "hi y/n" he said softly, his voice careful and gentle not wanting to overwhelm you.
you looked at him, your big blue eyes wife with curiosity as you clutched your mummy's hand a little tighter. your usual boldness momentarily replaced with shyness. "hi," you said after a pause, you voice quiet and timid.
alessia crouched down before you, her hand staying tightly in yours, "lovie, this is harrison" she said her voice calm but steady. "and he's.. your dad"
your brow furrowed slightly, her head tilting as you processed your mummy's words, "my dad?" you repeated, your gaze flicking between your mummy and harrison.
"yes" alessia said softly, "he's been away for a little while, but he wants to get to know you"
harrison leaned forward, putting himself a little closer to you. he looked hesitant unsure if he should speak but when you didn't back away, he took a deep breath.
"it's nice to finally meet you, y/n." he said his voice warm and welcoming, "your mummy has told me so many wonderful things about you."
you stared at him for a moment, your little button nose scrunching up as you studied his face. finally you asked, "but why weren't you here before?"
the question hit like a punch to the gut and alessia felt her breath get caught in her throat as she looked at harrison waiting to see how he would respond.
harrison's face softened, guilt flickering in his eyes. "that's a good question" he said gently. "the truth is, i made a mistake. a pretty big one and i wasn't there when i should've been and i'm really really sorry for that"
you blinked, your expression still curious but no longer as guarded as you were, "so.. but your not going away now?"
harrison's throat bobbed as he swallowed hard, "no kiddo, i’m not going anywhere. and if you'll let me i would really like to spend time with you and get to know you"
alessia felt her chest tighten at the raw emotion in his voice. she looked down at you whose gaze was fixed on harrison and after a long moment you nodded slowly.
"okay" you said simply.
harrison's face lighting up with relief, his smile genuine and warm, "okay" he echoed softly.
you turned back to look at your mummy, your usual energy returning. "can i show him the swings, mummy? i'm really good at swinging high!"
alessia hesitated for a moment, her protective instincts warring slightly with the tentative hope stirring in her chest. finally she nodded, "of course lovie. go on"
you grabbed harrison's hand without hesitation, pulling him towards the swings with the same confidence you had with everyone you trusted.
alessia watching as harrison followed you, his movements careful but not awkward. he listened to you chattering about your favourite colours and how you someday when you get older would like a puppy like your auntie beth and steph.
by the time you reached the swings, you had clearly decided that harrison was worth your attention. you climbed onto the swing and your legs were kicking in anticipation.
"push me! but not too high!" you instructed your voice filled with authority.
harrison chuckled, a sound alessia hadn't heard in years. it bringing back memories of the two of them when they were sit and laugh in their dorms about things that probably weren't even funny.
"you got it kiddo!"
as harrison gently pushed on the swing, your laughter filled the air, bright and unrestrained. alessia stood by the bench watching them with a strange mix of emotions swirling inside her.
for the first time, she allowed herself to believe that maybe—just maybe—this could work.
the sun had dipped lower in the sky as they walked home, the soft golden light casting long shadows on the pavement of the three.
you skipping happily ahead, holding your mummy's hand with one of her own while the other clutched the small daisy harrison had plucked for her from the park.
you hadn't stopped talking since they left, your excitement bubbling over as you recounted every little thing about your day.
harrison walked in the other side of alessia, his hands shoved deep into her coat pockets, clearly not well adjusted to the cool breeze that london brings once the sun had lowered.
his steps were measured as his gaze drifted towards you every so often as if he couldn't quite believe you were real and part his blood.
when they reached the driveway of your home, you running straight to the door as your mummy came up behind unlocking it for you to rush inside the warmth, kicking your shoes off before turning to the door seeing your mummy and har- your daddy still stood at the door way.
"are you coming inside daddy?" you asked so innocently with a big toothy grin.
the words so simple as daddy, landed like a punch and a hug all at once. alessia's heart clenching and she saw the way harrison froze, his eyes widening for just a moment before he crouched down to your level.
"not today, y/n" he said gently, his voice steady but filled with emotion. remembering about what alessia had said about boundaries and wanting to respect them. "but i'll see you soon, and maybe we can go to a soft play"
you pouted slight but your expression softened when harrison added, "i promise i’ll be back, pinky swear?" he held out his pink and you giggled as you wrapped yours around his, "pinky swear!"
satisfied with the answer you were given, you turned and tugged at your mummy's arm, "can i have a snack now, mummy?"
alessia smiled, brushing a faint curl from your face, "go on inside and wash your hands first lovie, i'll be through in a moment"
you nodded, bouncing your way inside and making a beeline for the kitchen as you held your daisy tight in your hand.
as you bounced down the hallway, the world seemed to grow quieter. alessia turning back to harrison after making sure you went were you should be, crossing her arms instinctively over her chest.
for a long moment, they stood there, the late afternoon casting a soft flow over their faces.
harrison shifted awkwardly from one foot to the other, his hands still buried inside his coat pockets, "she's.. amazing" he said finally, his voice thick with emotion.
alessia's lips twitched into a small smile despite herself. "she is, i've worked hard to make sure she has a good life"
"and you've done an incredible job" harrison said honestly, his eyes meeting alessia's. "she's so clever, so confident. that's all you"
alessia felt her guard waver, but she quickly steadied herself, "not just me. my family and my friends. she's surrounded by people who shower her with love" her gaze hardened slightly, "people who've been there since day one."
harrison flinched but nodded, he knew it was coming. his jaw tightened, "yeah, i deserve that one," he admitted quietly.
"i know i let you down less- alessia. both of you. and i don't expect forgiveness overnight but i would like to there for her now, and you if you ever need me. however you'll let me" harrison smiled softly, alessia taking in his words, letter by letter.
alessia studied him, her expression unreadable, "your really asking me to fully trust you, after four years of nothing."
"yeah" harrison said quietly, his voice was steady despite the weight of alessia's words. "but not just for me, but for her. i'll do whatever it takes to prove that i'm serious this time."
her lips pressed together into a thin line as she considered him, the sincerity in his eyes was hard to ignore but the scars of the past were fresh and the last few days had opened more than alessia care to admit.
"we'll see" she said finally, her voice cool but not dismissive, "you've got a long way to go harrison. don't make me regret this."
he nodded, a small but grateful smile tugging at his lips, "i won't, i promise"
for a minute, the weight of their shared history hung between them — everything left unsaid, every moment lost. then alessia took a small step back her hand resting lightly on the door handle.
"goodnight, harrison."
"goodnight, alessia. message me once you've had time to think!"
she slipped inside and close the door behind her, leaning against it for a moment as she let out a shaky breath.
your laughter echoing from the kitchen, no doubt in alessia's mind that you were making soap bubbles while you washing your hands and alessia felt the faintest glimmer of hope pierce through the wall of doubt surrounding her heart.
