A character looks straight into the camera and says "I'm not interested in romance" and people will still say "No, it's not confirmed they're aromantic!!!" "They could change their mind!!!" "it's a challenge for them to overcome!!!" "They'll have character development that makes them fall in love"
It's like they are given the most blatant answer to a character romantic orientation and they actively ignore it. all the while all it takes is subtext for people to speak as if it is fact for a character to be any other sexuality.

Thinking about this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
So what I love about this is how completely accurate it is to describe your kink orientation as a "need". Because it's not just something I would like out of a relationship. It's not a want. It's a need. I'm actively unhappy in vanilla relationships(or that one time I spent a year trying to be in a relationship with another sub *shudder*). I need to be able to submit to my partner. And honestly I just need to be able to submit in general. Not having that feels like I'm suffocating. So Louis saying that he and Armand had figured out what they NEEDED from each other, not wanted, but needed, is perfectly accurate.
Also look at the love in their eyes!!!! You'll NEVER convince me that they weren't in love in Dubai.

Too Hard
Woop part 2 of the trip inside Jamil's head. Part 1 here.
The next time Jamil caught sight of you on campus, his first instinct was to turn around on his heel.
What a stupid thought to have because of you.
Besides, that would only make him more conspicuous, not less.
So, when your eyes met his, Jamil gave you a short nod in greeting. He would’ve left it at that and kept on his way, had you not walked up to him.
“Hi Jamil! How’s it going?” you said with that impossibly disarming smile of yours.
Why was it so difficult to look at you like he normally would? You had no right to make him feel so stiff, so unnatural.
On autopilot, Jamil exchanged a few pleasantries with you - those lessons from his parents had been instilled too deep in him for him to falter too badly in a simple exchange such as this. Still, Jamil quickly excused himself by telling you he still had to find Kalim before his next class.
Jamil didn’t miss the way your smile faltered. Had you hoped to get something out of him?
“Oh, okay. I’ll see you two later, then.”
Something about that irked him, though Jamil did not allow himself to dwell on it further.
His heart really had no business still racing as it did when he walked away, unaware of the frown on his face.
Just act normal. That’s all he needed to do.
After all, he had no time for dwelling in silly fancies.
If Jamil had been acutely aware of you before, it only seemed to worsen now that he was making a conscious effort to not act any differently with you. In fact, the harder he tried to keep you out, the more you invaded his thoughts, unsettling him.
The most innocuous words from you looped in his mind, and even the simplest actions caught his eye. For goodness's sake, he’d found himself staring at you while you were queueing up in the cafeteria the other day, not even doing anything other than standing around and looking bored!
For once, Jamil found himself grateful for all his duties. At least they provided him with something else to occupy himself with.
After all, if he was busy enough, it was difficult to think about those bright eyes of yours, your sweet laugh, or the way you bit your lip while thinking.
Still, sometimes it felt like no matter which way he turned, you were there, ready to throw him off-kilter. Not like it was his fault that often the most convenient route to class intersected with your daily routines. Or that your face seemed to jump out from any crowd, catching his attention.
Which certainly did not help his basketball performance. Jamil certainly did not recall you having such an interest in sports before, yet suddenly you were always there, distracting him. What had changed?
Could you possibly-
Jamil scoffed to himself, forcing his thoughts back on track for the nth time that day.
He picked up the tray of food and started taking it to Kalim. After dinner, he’d need to help Kalim with his homework, there were some housewarden tasks that would need dealing with, not to mention the preparations for the next-
Jamil froze in his tracks.
The voice he heard was quiet, but it was unmistakably you.
Really, it should not have come as such a surprise to him. You had become a rather frequent visitor to Scarabia, and Kalim often invited you to stay for meals. In fact, Jamil had started planning the dorm’s meal prep with your tastes and dietary restrictions in mind, just in case.
Jamil rounded the corner with strange exhilaration, his heart fluttering needlessly.
Yet, his mood evaporated when he saw you.
Why did you stop talking and look so guilty as soon as you caught sight of Jamil?
Jamil knew that look you gave to Kalim, had used it himself a thousand times. The one telling Kalim to keep quiet about something.
What could there possibly be that you would be comfortable sharing with Kalim, but not with him? That would give Kalim reason to sit so close to you, a comforting hand on your shoulder?
Jamil's mind raced with possibilities, yet could not settle for any single explanation.
He’d have to ask Kalim about it later.
Jamil gave you a short, polite greeting, his eyes lingering on you in an attempt to read what you were hiding.
“If I’d known you were coming over, I would’ve prepared something for you to eat as well,” Jamil said, already thinking about which parts of the dorm’s dinner to spruce up for you.
“Oh, no need, just figured I’d pop by. I’ll get out of your hair soon enough,” you said, something sheepish about your expression.
As expected, Kalim asked you to stay and dine with them, and with just a bit more persuasion you agreed - though not before telling Jamil that he should join you too and have himself a breather.
And since Kalim agreed with you, Jamil soon found himself sharing a meal with you and Kalim. Yet, even as he sat down with the food, his mind raced.
Had you been getting particularly close to Kalim lately? But surely Jamil would’ve noticed such a thing. Maybe someone from the dorm had been giving you trouble? But if that was the case, then surely you could let Jamil know about it, too. Unless for some reason you did not want to? But if it was something that concerned Kalim, then sooner or later it was bound to concern Jamil, too.
All the while, Kalim was talking to you about this and that, the latest topic being the animals kept on the Asim estate.
“I’ve got some pictures, let me show you!” Kalim said with an excited grin.
Only, a thorough patting of his pockets and a look around confirmed that Kalim’s phone was nowhere to be seen.
Jamil pinched the bridge of his nose. Where had Kalim left it this time?
Before Jamil even had the chance to say that he would handle it, Kalim sprinted off. Jamil hesitated for a moment, automatically halfway up from his seat, before he decided that leaving a guest unattended would be a worse offense than not helping out his master.
Jamil slumped back down with a sigh, mentally tracing the path Kalim took today, trying to recall the last time he saw Kalim handle his phone.
“Breathe. He’ll manage,” you said. There was the faintest of smiles on your lips, and Jamil could not decide if it was knowing or amused. Perhaps both.
Somehow, despite his frustration, Jamil’s own lips wanted to curl up too.
“Hmm. Maybe he will.”
Sure, Jamil could’ve called Kalim’s phone, to make it easier to find, but it was not that urgent, was it?
Jamil took another bite of his food, keeping an eye on you from the corner of his eye.
How was his mind so empty and so buzzing at the same time?
“You know-”
“So-”
You looked at each other, both just as surprised that the other had spoken up at the same time.
Even your surprised look was so-
“You first,” Jamil said. The way you bit your lip... Jamil had to raise a cup to his lips, slowly sipping his drink.
“Just… Feels like it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen you be still, you know. Or exchanged more than two words with you,” you said. You were attempting a light, joking tone, yet it was quite clear there was more to it.
“You say that like it would be unusual for me to be busy.”
He was not prepared for the way your soft sigh tugged at his heartstrings.
“No. It is not.”
You were both quiet after, poking at your meals. Normally, Jamil would’ve cherished such a moment of peace, yet this particular silence between you two was decidedly awkward.
Where was your usual chatter? Why weren’t you looking at him like you usually did?
“If you’re worried about me, don’t. I’m fine,” Jamil said, some softness creeping into his tone despite his best intentions.
“That's what Kalim said too,” you said. Yet the way you looked at Jamil made it clear you were still skeptical.
Wait.
Had you clammed up earlier because it had been Jamil you had been talking about with Kalim? That Kalim had comforted you about?
The thought twisted his stomach into knots.
Eta: you can find part 3 here, part 4 here, and finally part 5 here. Hasdhfsdf the way I fought with that last scene I swear. I don't even want to know how many versions I went through, trying to figure out how to say what I wanted without rubbing it into your face or making it too veiled. The joys of trying to convey things through a limited pov. Hopefully it came out reasonably balanced in the end. Rip to all those sentences that were lovely on their own but didn’t work for the whole. Hopefully I can rehome y’all one day. I do have thoughts for part 3 and part x (might be some chapters between those two as well, who knows at this point), so maybe we'll see those at some point, too. Tag list: @colliope @crystallizsch @diodellet @jamilsimpno69 @jamilvapologist @twstgo If you'd like to be tagged for future works, let me know! (Just be aware that sometimes I do also write nsfw, though you can certainly ask to be tagged only for particular kinds of works.)
#twisted wonderland#jamil viper#twisted wonderland x reader#jamil viper x reader#ner writes#jamil definitely knows how to deal with his feels#also writing this is making me wonder how aware jamil is of his inner versus outer life#like he’s very aware of how he comes across because that’s what he’s been told to watch out for#but how well has he truly learned to understand himself and his own feelings wants etc?#(I mean as you can tell I’m assuming not very well)#originally this went to more of a “jamil hears just the wrong part of the conversation” route but#a) I kinda hate that trope especially when it’s dragged on beyond belief and#b) Kalim maybe doesn’t want to spill anyone’s secrets but he really is such an open book especially with Jamil so#also it’s not like jamil needs the extra help to catastrophize he already does that well enough on his own 🙃#tho then I went a little too far in the other direction and had to pull back#but let's just hope I didn't edit this to death by now#also also: since I seem to have a bit of a naming theme going on for this series#if I were to be the sort to go for the angst route what part would definitely be titled Too Late or something along those lines#also x3 but loved folks commenting on that part about reader being inoffensive in the first part#I certainly had fun writing that line#(and in general extra love to everyone who leaves comments on tags replies wherever always great to read those)#(and in general chat with y'all)

The Second Our Eyes Met (I Knew I Wanted You) (Christen Press x Reader)
Tumblr media
When Christen Press caught your eyes across the party, she felt an immediate spark, what she didn't expect was to be pinned between you and the bathroom door soon after, her lips slamming against yours.
Anonymous Request: G!P reader x christen press, they hook up in the bathroom at a party, reader has christen stare at herself in the mirror.
Anonymous Request: How about a ‘you can’t get enough of me huh? ;) ’ prompt for the g!p smut you were talking about?
Disclaimer: First of all, this fic is 100% NSFW, so if that isn't your thing, I'd DEFINITELY skip this one considering it's basically porn without plot. Also, this a g!p reader fic, so also avoid if that isn't your thing. Other than that, please enjoy and let me know what you think.
Her eyes had been on you all night, green orbs boring into you from across the room.
Typically, you would have approached her without a second thought, but something about her made her seem unapproachable.
Maybe it was the women around her?
Maybe it was the fact that this event was meant to be formal, and making a pass at a random woman would most likely be frowned upon by the others around you?
However, the more you caught her gaze, the more you found yourself not caring.
You eye her intently, drinking her in your eyes raking down her body, from her green orbs, down her chest, to her muscular calves, until you eventually settle on her high heels.
You didn’t know who she was, you didn’t care in all honesty.
You wanted her, and you wanted her bad, the thought of her fluttering around you as you were buried deep inside her made the appendage between your legs begin to stir.
You clear your throat, downing the last of your glass of whiskey before heading to the open bar, intent on getting another, knowing full well that this was going to be a long night.
************************************************************************
Christen Press didn’t know your name, she knew nothing about you, but she wanted you, wanted you beyond belief, something she’d never experienced with anyone.
Anytime she’d glance your way, she’d find your eyes already on her, the thought of you staring at her making her core flutter.
She’d never felt outright lust for anyone, at all, but currently gazing across the room, she felt a strong desire to drag you into an adjacent room and have her way with you, eager to ride the appendage between your legs, something revealed by the noticeable bulge in your pants.
Your throat visibly bobs as you catch her looking at said bulge, shifting to hide it from view, but now that she’d noticed it, she couldn’t help but stare.
The more she stared, the more you wanted her, the more you wanted to drag her into a secluded room and use the very thing she’d been staring at most of the night.
You sip your whiskey, your throat bobbing as you reluctantly turn away from the woman, brainstorming on how you might get her alone, hoping that the looks she’d been giving you all night meant she wanted you just as much as you wanted her.
You move to your feet, leaving your empty tumbler behind before you make your way towards where you know the restroom is located, hopeful that she won’t be far behind.
************************************************************************
Christen watches as you make your way out of the room, eager to follow behind you, but she knew she had to make an excuse so her teammates wouldn’t come looking for her.
“Can you hold this?” She whispers to Alex Morgan who takes her drink, one of her perfect brows arched in question.
“Restroom.” Christen says simply before making her way out of the room, confident she’d be able to track you down and act on the desire she was feeling, a thrum of excitement pulsing between her legs.
It doesn’t take her long to find the restroom, and when she does, she sees you leaning against the bathroom counter, your eyes darting to her reflection in the full-length mirror covering one of the bathroom’s walls.
“That didn’t take long.” You say suggestively, her breath hitching as you back her up against the ornate door behind her, twisting the lock to avoid any unwanted interruptions.
With no prompting, she grabs the front of your suit jacket and pulls you in, her lips slamming against yours.
You pick her up with ease, carrying her to the sink before placing her on the counter, your tongue sliding into her open mouth, earning a breathy moan from the woman whose name you didn’t even know.
Your hands run down her body before settling on her waist, squeezing her sides as the two of you kiss feverishly.
A beat passes before your jacket is shoved off and your dress shirt is unbuttoned, falling to the bathroom floor, leaving you in nothing but your bra.
Her lips leave yours before finding your pulse point, her tongue running up the column of your neck before sucking a bruise into your tanned skin.
You wrap your fingers around the top of her dress, the brunette pulling back slightly to whisper.
“Careful.” She says as she pants heavily, a smirk stretching across your face.
“Can’t have your friends knowing you came in here to fuck a complete stranger?” You grin cockily, the woman gasping when your hand slides up the hem of her dress, your palm resting on her mound, her panties already soaked through.
In any other situation, she’d be embarrassed at how wet she was, but in this moment, all embarrassment flew out the window, she wanted one thing, and that was to orgasm, an orgasm she wanted you to give her.
“God, you’re soaked for me, aren’t you?” You rasp in her ear, the brunette unable to bite back a moan when you grab her panties, tearing them from her body, the shredded garment falling to the floor.
“Now that, that’s out of the way.” You growl before your fingers slide through her wet lips, the woman moaning when your fingertips brush her clit.
“Right there?” You ask, her lips leaving your neck as you draw small, lazy circles against her clit.
“Faster.” She begs, and you chuckle.
“Like this?” You ask, the brunette using your shoulder to muffle her cry as you begin drawing rapid, relentless circles against her clit.
“You like that?” You whisper, earning a rapid nod when you flatten your palm against her, your fingertips teasing her entrance.
A sudden knock on the door makes you stiffen, your eyes widening as they lock with the woman’s who’s resting on the counter in front of you.
“Christen? Are you in there?” A voice sounds from the other side, and you snigger, using one hand to drag her dress downwards to reveal her breasts.
Christen muffles her cries into your shoulder as you cup her breast, your thumb brushing against erect nipple.
“Ye-Yeah, I’m alright.” She pauses mid-sentence, gasping when your lips wrap around one of the dark buds.
“J-J-Just...” She pauses, her face scrunching up as your hand travels south again, your fingers again finding her clit.
Her mouth hangs wide open as you circle her clit before dipping a finger inside her, her inner walls fluttering around the digit.
“Are you okay? Do you want me to come in?” The voice asks, the woman in your arms doing everything she can to remain quiet as you slip another finger inside her, your fingers curling as they brush against the spot inside her that makes her whimper.
“No! I’m okay, I’ll-I’ll be out in a few minutes.” She gasps, her hands now resting on your back, her nails digging into your skin.
“Okay, well if you need me, just call me, okay?” They say as your fingers slide in and out of her tight heat.
“I will.”
Moments later, footsteps carry the person away from the door, the woman in your arms growling as she hastily undoes your belt.
“Eager?” You tease, Christen moaning as your fingers pound repeatedly into her.
“I want your cock, not your fingers.” She growls, shoving your pants off, the article of clothing falling in a heap around your ankles before you step out of them and kick them across the bathroom floor.
You groan, your fingers stilling when she palms you through your boxers, a raspy growl rumbling in your throat as your lips again meet hers, your tongue sliding into her open mouth.
Her legs wrap around your middle as you pull her closer, her core resting against your stomach as you kiss hungrily.
She gives her hips a roll, groaning as her clit grinds against your abdomen, the woman wanting to be wrapped entirely around you, to have you deep inside her reaching places your fingers couldn’t.
She makes her intentions known when she uses her heels to hook into your boxers and drag them down your body, your erection springing free.
“You want my cock that bad, huh Christen?” You ask, your lips brushing as you whisper, your hand settling on the erect rod between your legs.
You pump it softly, groaning into her mouth as you line yourself up with her entrance.
“Are you ready?” You ask, running your tip through her soaked lips, her core latching onto you with each pass.
Wordlessly, she wraps her legs back around you, pulling you into her, the action making your brows furrow in pleasure as you push yourself up on your tip toes, now fully sheathed inside her.
“Yeahhh.” You moan as she adjusts to the stretch, her core fluttering around you.
You give your hips an experimental thrust upwards, Christen’s breath hitching her nails digging into your back as you start a rhythm.
Your thighs slap together softly, but neither of you care, the two of you overcome with pleasure.
“Faster.” She sighs, your hips snapping upward roughly, causing her to bite your neck to stop herself from crying out.
You pound into her relentlessly, her mouth hanging wide open, her brows furrowed.
She lets out a gasp when you lift her into the air and place her against a nearby wall, her legs wrapped tightly around you as you again start thrusting into her, burying yourself deep inside her.
“Look at yourself, Christen.” You whisper in her ear, your tongue running along the shell of her ear.
Christen’s unable to stop herself from moaning when her eyes lock with her own in the mirror, the woman watching as you thrust rapidly into her, bringing her a sense of pleasure she never felt before.
The thrill of being caught only heightened that pleasure, the fact that a few rooms away was filled with people who could catch the two of you at any moment.
“Look how bad you want me; you can’t get enough of me can you? You can’t get enough of my cock, can you?” You ask, pounding into her, her breath catching in her throat.
It’s when her breath starts to hitch rapidly that you know she's close, the tingling at the base of your cock telling you that you won’t be far behind.
“You want to come baby?” You ask, Christen nodding as she begins slamming down onto your roughly, chasing her release which you know isn’t far off.
Her walls flutter rapidly around you, before she goes stiff in your hold.
She slams her lips against yours, allowing you to swallow her cries as she comes undone, trembling violently in your arms.
You groan into her open mouth, still thrusting hard as your thighs begin to quake, streams of your seed spewing into her as you shudder, burying your face in her neck as you groan.
It isn’t long before the two of you still, both covered in a thin sheen of sweat, both panting loudly as you pull away from one another, before surging back in for one more heated kiss.
You pull back slowly, placing her on the floor, letting her steady herself before you step backwards and retrieve your boxers, pulling them up over your near flaccid cock.
Christen pulls her dress upward, covering her breasts before flattening it out, ridding it of any creases, of any signs that something may have happened in the restroom.
She glances across the bathroom, watching as you button your dress shirt before tugging your jacket on.
Much to her surprise, you make your way back towards her, guiding her back into the wall before your hand slides up the hem of her dress, Christen gasping when you start drawing wild, sloppy circles against her clit.
It isn’t long before her back is arching, and she’s coming for a second time, a lengthy whine sounding into your shoulder.
You smirk, teasingly circling her clit before she grabs your wrist, unable to take more of your teasing caresses.
You lick your lips, your eyes running down her front before the smirk you're wearing splits into a cocky grin.
“Sorry, i just had to see that face again." You smile, eyeing her intently before you take a step back.
"See you around Chris.” You wink, adjusting your outfit before making your way out of the bathroom, still wearing that same smug smile.
Christen pants heavily against the bathroom wall, her pleasure entirely sated.
She makes herself look more presentable before making her way out of the bathroom, her teammates turning her way in confusion.
“Are you okay?” Alex asks, sipping her wine as she eyes her fellow forward worriedly.
“Ye-Yeah.” Christen clears her throat, her green orbs darting around the room before settling on you, a tumbler of whiskey in your hand, which you raise to her before downing it with a grin.
“I’m great actually.” She smirks, taking her wine glass from Alex’s hand and taking a sip, her green orbs locking with your Y/E/C’s as she licks her lips.
You shoot her a wink, unbeknownst to the women around her before turning back to your tumbler of whiskey, sipping the amber colored liquid, elated that you’d came to this party in the first place.

Broke (2016): BBC Sherlock is a phenomenal piece of media and anything that seems like a flaw just hasn't been fully explored yet
Woke (2020): BBC Sherlock is an incredibly flawed series run by an egotistical writer, it never deserved the hype and is actively bad on so many fronts (especially representation)
Bespoke (2024): BBC Sherlock is flawed and bogged down by increasingly poor writing, which many fans refused to see while it was airing, leading to hugely misplaced expectations (particularly for the final series), AND it has the seeds of some compelling characterizations and portrayals, some genuinely solid performances, and touches--albeit imperfectly--on complexities that are still being discussed today (particularly as it relates to the relationship between Sherlock and John). The huge cultural impact of the show has created a massive pendulum effect in its public perception, leading to most people today remembering a caricature of the show (whether positive or negative) rather than appreciating its nuanced merits and failings...that being said Season 4 sucked
#these just sum up my personal takes at the years in question and also what i'm seeing on tumblr/other social media#bbc sherlock#sherlock holmes#and i actually have a lot more thoughts to share on this series#specifically relating to the cultural impact#there is SO much about the show that goes unappreciated in hindsight because of how public perception of it has soured#and i totally fell into this as well--i still regularly rewatch hbomberguy's video absolutely dismantling the series and he isn't wrong!!#but what i'm saying is that i think it's easy for us to look at a piece of media (especially one so massively popular) like sherlock...#with very black-and-white lenses. it wouldn't have become so popular if there wasn't something inherent in it that resonated with people#and that's being buried (and i totally forgot it) because 'sherlock is cringe and problematic. can't believe i liked that'#which again it IS full of issues and those are well-documented as they should be. future portrayals should not repeat those mistakes#BUT being able to impact so many people is a merit in itself. and that's only possible because of other genuinely good things about the show#yes the way they handled the relationship between john and sherlock was riddled with problems YES it was often queerbaiting#AND the way they portrayed that relationship had a deep effect on me. i saw a lot of myself in sherlock and the complex way he loved john#the nuanced feelings he had about john's marriage to mary. the part (in s4!) where john calls him inhuman for not feeling romantic love#there was genuine intention and care put into some parts of this show and it comes through in scenes like those. they impact people.#and because of this realization i'm going to (eventually) do a rewatch of the show. i'm much older and i want to see how i'll view it now#but i want to go into it--and i want everyone who engages with it still--to have an open mind and evaluate it for what it is#not what we expected it to be (secret episode anyone?) or what the cultural drift has turned it into (the tiktok of sherlock's mind palace)#but the messy problematic somewhat-heartfelt massively significant and ultimately meaningful piece of media it actually was#anyway that's my thoughts would love to hear y'all's perspectives#funny how after all this time making a sherlock post still feels like i'm poking a bees' nest lol please be kind!#kay can i just catch my breath for a second#kay has a party in the tags

"Colin should have grovelled more!" "Penelope folded too easily"
I think statements like this typically come from people who like Penelope. . .but don't really understand her. And don't really understand just why she cares for Colin, and just why him groveling would not in any way bring her peace.
Penelope and Colin are kindred spirits in their loneliness, in season 3 more than any others. Penelope had lost her friendship with Eloise, and Colin didn't really have a close friend circle to begin with. Except with Pen. Pen was the person he could put the mask down for, could open up to, (in particular with their 'dreams' discussion) and that's why he couldn't even entertain the idea of giving up talking to her in Season 2. She is a vital part of his life, and holds so much significance and importance to him.
I imagine that's what made their silence over his travels especially painful for him. They spent such a long time talking after Season 1, and he even informs her that her letters were so encouraging, that it helped him heal something inside of himself. That if she could see him in a gentle way. . .so could he. (And he repays this, because he is honest to god out here acting and looking at her like she hung the moon in the sky). But without her presence in his life, he spiraled. Didn't feel confident in being who he is, and thus put on his persona more firmly. We know this because he wrote in his journal that "I want to be less needy, less insecure, while still maintaining the core of my vulnerability that makes me who I am". That he misses his family, that he misses home.
And we know, from the books, that Home? Home is Penelope. Penelope is his North Star, is his guiding force, and who I argue he feels he needs. In his very first scene, he looks toward her house, tries to find her in the window. When he does not, he returns to his family. In the outdoor gathering, he looks for her and finds her, eager to talk. He states aloud that he misses her, and I imagine he wrote it, too. Not hearing back from her over the course of his travels was surely something that hurt him, but he doesn't hold any ill will toward her for it, only wants to reconnect again. In fact, the one and only time he brings up how he misses her and that she didn't respond, she makes very clear the reason why: she heard what he said and it hurt her. And he's ashamed of it.
Colin hears her call him cruel, and instead of ruffling his feathers about it, instead of getting upset, instead of having a chip on his shoulder as I feel so many men would about it. . .he understands why she does so.
Penelope is a woman who has been largely treated poorly in her society. She feels unheard, she feels undesired, and in her circumstances, and I can't help but ask myself. . .has anyone ever truly apologized to Penelope for hurting her, before? Her mother? Her sisters? Eloise, likely, but. . .anyone else? And the way Colin did? Because of all the characters in the show, Colin? Colin knows how to apologize. He has a lot of practice in it. And very importantly: Colin, a man of privilege in his society, apologizes. . .predominately to women. To Marina, to his mother, and multiple times to Penelope.
Ultimately, Penelope wants to be heard, Penelope wants to be understood, Penelope wants to feel desired.
And Colin checks every single one of those boxes. He informs he is not who he was before, and then he proves it to her. He hears that he hurt her, and he comments on it directly. An entire night apart, and he comes back to her 'Because I embarrass you' with 'I am most certainly not ashamed of you', replies to her 'I am a laughingstock' with 'you are clever, and warm, and I am proud to call you my good friend'. He hears her proclaim her own insecurities, and empathizes so deeply with her. He listens. He understands. He makes clear that he cares for her, and that she *is* desired. 'You lift my spirits' 'I seek you out at every social assembly'. That she helps him see the world in ways he loves, that he sees HER and how much she has cared for HIM, that she makes him feel appreciated, that he appreciates her, in turn.
And then? Then? He shows her. He tells her, and he shows her. His actions all throughout Season 3 reinforce this apology. He continues looking for her in every corner of every ballroom, he continues complimenting her, he laughs at her jokes and respects her boundaries, he is ever so gentle with her, he listens to her with an attentiveness that no one else has ever given her. To Lady Whistledown? Sure. But to Penelope? Who else in the entirety of that ton has listened to Penelope the way Colin has?
Absolutely no one.
Penelope Featherington ghosts Colin Bridgerton for months with no explanation, and Colin comes back wanting to reach out to her, and she finally tells him why.
And he apologizes. Because he listens. Really, truly listens. And really truly cares.
I need you to understand how rare that is, even nowadays, but especially back then. That Colin is the kind of man who can put his hurt to the side and realize he made a mistake, that he said something callous, and he adores her, and he can't lose her, and he has to see her and make it right.
Because that's why Penelope fell for Colin. Not because he's beautiful, not for his charm, not for his family. But for his heart. Because he shows her kindness in a world that so often disregards her. Because he seeks her out and tries to understand her, truly hears what she has to say and compliments her, says he's sorry and looks at things from her perspective.
Because he saw her when she was invisible.
Penelope Featherington, who grew up in a house that made cruel jabs at her, has Colin Bridgerton come to her and say he regrets what he said, and that he was wrong, and that he understands why she's mad at him. Penelope Featherington who has so rarely had much of anyone tell her that they're sorry for what they said about her, sits before Colin Bridgerton as he professes how much she means to him. That he cannot even spend a full day away from her knowing they're on bad terms with each other without making it right. That he sees how she is hurting and he has to in any way he can amend it. She is lonely, with no one really in her corner at the start of season 3, and she feels like she lost it all, and Colin comes to her and says 'no, I'm here and I appreciate you and you are special to me, please let me in and let me prove it'. Is it any wonder why after she shakes his hand, she stands in the sun, and she feels the warmth of it, she can smile? That she can breathe, again? That she can be truly content for the first time in the season?
Because Penelope Featherington does not want Colin to beg. She knows him. She knows the tender, full heart he hides behind the new cavalier persona. She knows the soft underbelly of Colin Bridgerton.
He never had to grovel. All he had to do was love her. Assuredly. Fervently. Loudly. Unapologetically.
And he does.

Love when people come in with exotic animals and then get upset about other people coming over to interact with them and their exotic animals. Like. Ma'am. You are wandering around a bookstore in Central Texas with a BABY KANGAROO IN YOUR BAG. PEOPLE ARE GOING TO ASK YOU QUESTIONS ABOUT YOUR NON-NATIVE SPECIES ANIMAL THAT YOU ARE CARRYING WITH YOU. Still baffled that Hopes so blatantly wrote Claude as the typical Evil Vaguely Middle Eastern Man set on destroying the Good White Nation for his Evil Vaguely Middle Eastern Nation that is often seen in fantasy settings - complete with him being seen as worse than a white woman who does many of the same evil deeds he does in-verse, even by his friends (should it be the bad ending route of SB) - and so many in the fandom were so eager to gobble that shit up. INSIST that "Clearly A Racist Stereotype" is LEAGUES better than "Subversion Of A Racist Stereotype" even. Like I don't think I'll ever get over how supremely fucked that is
#clyde discourse#anti clyde#like if you ever want a reminder that CIaude plays second fiddle to the other two lords in the fandom's mind here it is this is it#Hopes couldn't be more blatant in how much it wanted CIaude to be EdeIgard's fall guy in two out of three routes#with how they play switcheroo with their character traits#CIaude becomes the imperialistic violent invader who's willing to sacrifice innocents lives for his own gain#and who doesn't give a shit to recognize information that contradicts his beliefs#and EdeIgard becomes the one who always strives for the most peaceful means to resolve conflicts#(just ignore how she's the one who started the conflict like how what everyone in Hopes does - she has her reasons don'cha know!)#like i swear to god hearing all of these people try to sell the dumbass one-note Boss Bozo that is Hopes!CIaude#as ''more interesting'' than his 3H iteration will make my brain leak out of my nose#''what if our first POC lord was a violent evil invader who tricks everyone into thinking he's a good guy''#is not the fucking win you think it is.#like y'all this is PEAK racism. this shit isn't interesting it's brazenly disrespectful#''b-but he's not a bad guy in Hopes!'' THE SHIT HE PULLED WITH SRENG MAKES HIM OBJECTIVELY EVIL LIKE OH MY GOD SHUT UP#there's shit all ''gray and nuanced'' about him needlessly worsening foreign relations WHEN HIS WHOLE SHIT#IS ABOUT BE T T E R I N G FOREIGN RELATIONS. it is clear that in Hopes he either is too braindead to realize the contradiction#or it's just not what he gives a shit about in actuality and he's just saying it is to come across better#with recent reblogs thought i'd post this draft because WOW do people just. not give a shit#''uhm calling something racist is racist ackchually 🤓'' get your dumbass outta here

You know, for all the accusations that jews essentially do blood quantum to exclude everyone and Be Superior, antisemites are some of the first to use blood quantum if it means they can hate jews...

In defense of Maya (without knowing the manga):
She definitely annoyed me because obviously I know Taichi isn't the person she was claiming he is and she clearly knows Kohei likes him as a friend, at least, so it's like ...girl, come on. But like.
She only went off on Taichi after she got the first set of notes he took? Which, let's be honest here, were dogshit. He really didn't take a service that Kohei needs seriously and he was initially doing it for Kohei's lunch. She didn't lie there. We also learned there's only 23 notetakers in the entire college. This is a service that is very much needed, yet doesn't have nearly enough volunteers for, and Taichi was treating it like a joke that didn't matter at first. That shit was hella disrespectful. He didn't mean it as such, and Kohei didn't take it as such either, but it was. So no shit Maya got that notebook and was like "...what the hell am I supposed to do with this? And this is who Kohei thinks is so nice and cool and everything?"
All Maya has are the initial terrible notes that Kohei gave her like they were helpful (they weren't) and knowing Kohei only kept Taichi as his note taker because he liked being around him. With the unspoken fact, that maybe non disabled people didn’t pick up on, that he also only kept Taichi as his note taker because there just aren't enough note takers, so he couldn't have gotten better anyway. Which almost certainly factored in as to why Maya blew up at Taichi. Disabled people shouldn't have to accept shit notes just because the alternative is no notes at all. We already have to work uphill cause of the disability, it's adding insult to injury to basically know everyone’s like "well, yeah it sucks, but you could have nothing." Or even a “yeah, I didn’t care at first, but I do now!” Because it’s like “it’s great that you finally realized this is a real service needed for a real disability that affects real people. Glad you finally figured that out. Congrataritos.” Like it is exhausting being disabled and having to sit there and smile when people have their lightbulb growing moment since we don’t have the option to dick around until we decide to lock it in. So I completely got why those shitty notes set Maya off. Because she didn't go off at him after the dinner, it was after she got those notes.
And on a related note, we all clapped for Taichi when he went off on homegirl in the cafe because she wasn't treating Kohei like a real person with real issues, but he also wasn’t taking Kohei and his problems seriously with those initial notes. Like yes, he started trying and actually doing better, but that only happened once he became friends with Kohei and realized he needed to do better. Who knows, maybe the cafe girl could have grown as a person, like Taichi did, if she had been able to get to know Kohei as a real person. But Taichi didn't let her get that chance, just like Maya wouldn't have let him get that chance if she could. The only difference in those two situations, to me, is Taichi is already Kohei's friend so Maya can't stop them from interacting like Taichi did with that girl.
Like I’m sorry y’all, Maya's not being any more of a bitch than Taichi was because she can only work with the information she has, which obviously isn't what we as viewers have. She’s pushy and overbearing and, yeah, annoying because she also obviously has a crush on Kohei and we know he's sprung on Taichi, but it’s really not like she just looked at Taichi and went “fuck this guy” for no reason.
