I'm not sorry but I just can't get behind headcanons where they make Pearl or Gem older than Grian and fWhip in sibling AUs. Because half the time it circles back to shoving female CCs or female characters to the "nurturing/motherly" role.
Edit: If not that, it's shoving women into "the one with the braincells™", which is still a problem on it's own. I get that that was semi Gem's role in empires s1 (mostly in the WRA), but at least put a tiny bit of nuance idk. It's still frustrating when people end up doing this to female characters.

not the first person to say this but the main thing for female villains when it comes to thriving to make them more multifaceted and dimensional and empathetic for an audience being “but she loved her children… but she wouldve done everything for her children…” drives me up the fucking wall. the men do not get this same treatment at all. there is so fucking much other shit you can do to make these characters sympathetic

makes me a little sad when star trek ignores IDIC. like. vulcans are logical. that is true. But 'logical', for vulcans, does not amount to 'without compassion,' and it definitely doesn't amount to 'racial superiority.' Belief in 'infinite diversity in infinite combinations' should NOT result in the weird racist/speciest stuff we're getting in some of the newer treks. It does make sense that some vulcans are discriminatory. They're still flawed. But that should not be common or expected, like it seems to be in SNW. If it is, then it's a race of hypocrites, which. doesn't seem very true to Star Trek's message.
I think TOS Spock does a pretty good job of embodying this. Not always, it was the 60s, after all, but mostly. He was often trying to find non-violent routes, and get by without killing - even if they were in danger or had already been attacked. (See: the mugato, and the horta (until Kirk was the one in danger, lmao. t'hy'la > IDIC), the Gorn ship). Kirk, in his eulogy, calls him the most human soul he's ever known, and I've always read that as Kirk calling out Spock's overwhelming compassion.
It's just so much more interesting when Vulcans get to be radically compassionate. I want them to believe that everything and everyone has value. I want them to respect all ways of being. I want them to find ways for even very non-humanoid aliens to exist unfettered in society. I want them to see hybrids and think that it's amazing. Also, like, disability rep. I want Vulcans to have The Most Accessible Planet and available resources because they want everyone to feel accepted and valued. It makes for better characters and more interesting stories.

always makes me uncomfortable when wc fans genuinely seem to think mapleshade is an entitled cunt for being in a halfclan relationship and wanting her children to grow up in thunderclan without issue

sometimes i get really sad thinking about mia and how short her life got cut. like. she was 27 but still had so much ahead of her. she was going to avenge and find her mom and her boyfriend was comatose and she waited every single day for him to wake up because she loved him and she still had maya and pearl to care for and protect from their aunt and she had phoenix to watch grow and develop as a lawyer. and all of that was taken away because some corrupt capitalist with horrible fashion sense didn’t want his reputation ruined.

There's no way any anti who throws the "go file your taxes" insult is actually an adult, right? 'Cause an adult would know you literally only file your taxes once a year and only at a like really specific time of year usually :/

Normally I hate the trope where like a guy character gets a girlfriend and she's just a guy version of him, but I REALLY like that Soldier tf2 gets a girlfriend and Zhanna is basically a girl version of him. For one thing I think it would ruin Soldier's entire joke if he got a girlfriend who was normal, and for another thing you NEVER get women characters who act like Soldier tf2. Zhanna gets to be just as stupid and just as nuts and just as naked (and her nudity is treated exactly the same as Soldier's nudity) so idk. It's just nice to have a woman who is funny

Potentially unpopular opinion but am I the only one irritated when people use runs written by people who have admitted that they hate Jason (such as bftc) as their basis for his character but then completely ignore character flaws that have existed since a characters conception (such as Tim’s misogyny) because “it’s out of character.”
Like, you’re willing to take something written with the intention of ruining Jason’s character at face value but will completely ignore a character consistent flaw present since a characters inception.

Firmly believe that if Ford had joined the Henchmaniacs, he and Pyronica would’ve instantly become besties. Ford finds out she’s a quantum physics genius who burned her city to the ground when she didn’t receive the proper appreciation she so rightfully deserved and is like “oh she’s just like me fr.” They would’ve been a “two queens maximizing their joint slay” dynamic for the ages.

i just got reminded of diego’s foul ass “yknow she said she couldn’t get pregnant while breastfeeding” comment and i want to THROW UP
WHYYYYY WAS THAT A LINE
what sexist ass man wrote this season of umbrella academy jesus christ
they literally never come back to it or address how fucked up it was and i have seen people interpret it as lila tricking him into having more kids which like honestly kinda reasonable bc they NEVER address that that’s not how that fucking goes down
it literally makes me sick, ik i’ve said it on here before but i feel the need to reiterate like, doctors tell women that, that is common medical misinformation and i’ve never in my entire life even HEARD of a woman using it to trick a man into having babies w her
but women do ALL THE FUCKING TIME get personally fucked over by this misinformation like, that’s how I was born, women are not out here telling you that bc they’re malicious and baby crazy, and it’s so vile to even insinuate that. like yeah lila’s a fictional character and maybe a fictional character would do that, but you need to make it ABUNDANTLY CLEAR that it is an outlier bc at they way they did it made it seem like women who say that are maliciously lying, which they fucking aren’t!!!!
arrghh i hate men i hate them

Ended up pirating all of Hazbin for the sake of my younger days (used to be a fan when I was around 14/15, before all the stuff with Viv came out) and I am so surprised by how I felt... nothing for the most part. Like a lot of the show's storylines feel like they was crammed in there with no real pacing. A lot of this should have been season 2 territory, which is a sentiment I've seen echoed around, but also... it feels as if the show is trying to be episodic while also having a long narrative thread, which just doesn't work with just 8 episodes. Especially not when paced like this. So I kinda ended up feeling nothing for the most part. All the events got a "Oh, great, so what?" reaction out of me because there was little to no buildup to most of them.
Sir Pentious was always a fave of mine so I was glad to see they kept him around and, though I think we should have had more episodes with him as a villain, I think how he ended up was fitting for what little of an arc he had. I am livid about what they did to Cherri and Mimzy.
I fucking loved Mimzy, I have no idea why they sent her away -- having someone like her at the Hotel would have been a blast considering how the others are already on the road to redemption. She would have balanced it out by being a regular sinner, someone who doesn't care about redemption and won't probably ever care unless it's in her best interests to. Plus her friendship with Alastor was quite cute, they bounce off of each other very well imo. Plus I could see her have a bit of a conflict with both Charlie and Vaggie because of her ways of acting. I'm so sorry they took that from you girlboss.
And Cherri... dear lord where WAS she? She should have been a lot more present. I used to like her relationship with Angel and I even think Cherrisnake is cute conceptually, but both these relationship had... little to no room to breathe imo.
#hazbin hotel critical#not putting this in the main tag#i wouldnt call myself a fan but i guess i can mourn what could have been#not considering viv and her controversities for a second... the pilot had a very nice feeling to it#that the series was not able to replicate#i think my liking of mimzy should come as a surprise to NO ONE LMAOOOO#i love evil selfish women im sorry ... sue me#we need to save mimzy sir pen and cherribomb from hazbin everyone else can rot#ok in all fairness i will give the show credit for ONE thing#i kind of enjoyed adam and lute as antagonists. adam is insufferable which is awesome#it makes it easy to hate him as a villain. and lute being his right hand woman makes sense#they read like a christian couple (term used loosely) where the man is a misogynistic asshole and the woman just kinda endorses it#which is perfect if you wanna make a critique of heaven and the humans who go in it because they repented or whatever#i always love dumbass villains who are easy to hate (mamoon from helluva being another example of a villain i enjoy)#thats it. thats all i have in terms of compliments#would love to adress the Angel Dust controversy because as a victim of SA (and CSA) myself I think there is nuance to be found in --#-- having a discussion about how we see survivors and how we portray the abuse they endure#i was an unconventional victim too. i kind of see a glimpse of me in Angel which is why I was LIVID when I got the full picture of the --#-- situation. but still

i randomly thought of a very old piece of hypmic trivia i thought would be very funny to roast myself with lmao, couldn’t find it tho, but finally found those old interviews with a hypmic producer i occasionally reference!!!! i read thru them and the answers there are pretty relevant to this blog actually lol
hypmic as a whole was inspired by the old school delinquent manga the producers all grew up on. hirano-san, our interviewee, even lists some lol. but we’d been talking about kuukou’s character likely being inspired from hajime no ippo, and ichiro making a reference to this genre of manga in h era reformation just made it feel relevant lol
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i always say hypmic wants to give a shit about their male audience, here’s that exact quote lol
Tumblr media
also lol!!!! throwback to when they put it out there that the drb results totally had impact on the direction of the story LOL
