I'm a broken record about this but after so many years of being left with the Axolotl poem about Bill, it'd be so lame if Bill never did reincarnate, and it'd be just as disappointing if it ended up being something minor like a cicada (although it'd be hilarious if he reincarnated, immediately died and then reincarnated into something else).

And to me, the wording of the original Axolotl poem really does make it seem like the reincarnation itself is the 'redemption' and the deal is that Bill is basically passing responsibility to someone else, after he's done with therapy and like.... doesn't pass down all of his many issues.

(Plus I dunno if it's my understanding of reincarnation that's wrong but it feels that when Bill is like 'yeah let me use the reset button!!!', he's forgetting that its way different from using a continue and he's just gonna end up with the equivalent of a shoddy new game plus made for a wrong character/setting at best)

Meanwhile, we're left with Bill poem about Stan that's the same in execution (a cryptic message between space and time and by that I mean hidden on the internet lol), with the same purpose (an opening/lingering mystery for Alex to use when he wants to return to the series) with the same elements (fire, lies, redemption, home) and numerous comparisons to Bill's own philosophy on lies that's repeated again in the same website.

(Also been thinking about how amnesiac!Stan could sorta be thought of as a reincarnation of himself in terms of mind only. The same soul being hit with that reset gun button, a chance of a new self unburdened by the past, but via the power of love and family they went nope!!! we want you back!!!)

Either way, with the poem and the book's ending there's the obvious Bill+Stan connection that we're supposed to acknowledge!!!

You guys have no idea how often I think about Divorced NikPrice. all thanks to @shyravenns for planting the idea in my head ofc <3

Both of them being single ever since they 'separated' because they just cannot move on, every attempt at dating other people failing either because the other sabotages it or threaten the potential interests. Possessive freaks. Y'know how it goes. They mess with one another and always come back to each other.

But Nikolai takes it a bit too far one time, and he gets involved with one of Price's operations. Chimera operators basically do the same thing as a Special Operation team, no? They're just less bound by the rules. So when Price gets sent on a job, only to find that it's already been taken care of by none other than his ex husband, he's fuming. And to others it may seem like a coincidence or a flaw in the intel, but John immediately understands Nikolai is involved because he left a message. Sort of like the one he did with the police.

Cut to Price angrily pacing around the room with Nikolai leaning against the wall with his arms crossed and a shit eating grin on his face, satisfied with his work. John's so mad. ''You're crazy'' he says loudly, ''You don't just go and mess with big scale operations like that. My operations.'' He tries justifying his anger. (Truth is, it's already justified since Nikolai wasted precious time and equipment just by getting Price's team there on a bust operation. But he's making it personal)

And Nik just calmly approaches him, not even moved by the sudden display of anger, he always liked seeing that side of John, really. Less composed, more honest, eyes bright with raw emotion. He's proud of his work. Walks up to him, arms open wide, inviting John to surrender.

''I did what's best for you, John. You know I only want you to be safe. You could've gotten hurt. I saw an opportunity and took it.'' He's just saying shit at this point. Price doesn't believe him. Not when Nikolai is making it this hard for him to move on, not when it always circles back to him. And most of all Price's frustrated with himself for still being so in love with the bastard.

Being incredibly self indulgent and sharing shitty afternoon sketches of my ayuu (haha get it) where yuu is miraculous ladybug. reading the novel, i love how blatantly indulgent of the juniors lan wangji is. when he was their age, he was duelling wei wuxian over broken rules and lived his life by behaving as precisely as what was expected of him, and now as an adult, he's basically letting the juniors do whatever they want as long as it isn't unsafe and generally letting the kids act like kids

which leaves wei wuxian to have to be the one playing bad cop. wei "has never followed anyone else's rules in his life" "bane of lan qiren's existence" "public enemy number one" wuxian has to be the one being like "oh my god don't burn money on someone else's doorstep, don't you know that's rude. you kids need to focus on your studies more, why isn't anyone teaching you anything useful, do i have to do everything myself around here"
