reading the novel, i love how blatantly indulgent of the juniors lan wangji is. when he was their age, he was duelling wei wuxian over broken rules and lived his life by behaving as precisely as what was expected of him, and now as an adult, he's basically letting the juniors do whatever they want as long as it isn't unsafe and generally letting the kids act like kids
which leaves wei wuxian to have to be the one playing bad cop. wei "has never followed anyone else's rules in his life" "bane of lan qiren's existence" "public enemy number one" wuxian has to be the one being like "oh my god don't burn money on someone else's doorstep, don't you know that's rude. you kids need to focus on your studies more, why isn't anyone teaching you anything useful, do i have to do everything myself around here"

"Even if you didn't know that we thought you were dead," Jin Zixuan says, "you knew that everyone else did. What was your plan for announcing your return from the dead?"
Wei Wuxian frowns and scratches his nose with his flute. "I don't have one, really. I imagine quite a lot of people still want me dead. But not anyone important, right? Sect Leader Yao wanting me dead isn't remarkable. That's like a Tuesday."
For fuck's sake. That kind of forethought is how they ended up in this mess in the first place.
"I'm pretty sure my father wants you dead," he says.
Wei Wuxian makes a face. "I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that I care even less about your father's opinion than I do Sect Leader Yao's."
Yeah, he'd made a point of that when he'd stolen every Wen from him and set up camp in the land between the Jin and the Jiang.
Yanli rolls her eyes. "We were thinking some sort of secret mission to explain A-Xian's absence and special training for A-Ling's." Then, apologetically, "I had been hoping your father would be dead by now."
"I can just kill him," Wei Wuxian offers.
Jiang Cheng pinches the bridge of his nose. "Do not reenter society by killing a sect leader."
"We can also hide out as new disciples," Wei Wuxian says. He really must be worried about his brother if he's dropping it that easily. "Which might not be a bad idea until we can find out what was happening to all our letters."
There's a pause. Finally, it's Lan Wangji who says, "You and Jiang Yanli are rather recognizable to most cultivators."
Jin Zixuan is surprised that they managed to go thirteen years without being recognized, even with staying out of cultivator territory. They certainly won't manage the same now that they're back into it.
"Plus the several dozen junior disciples who already know who we are," Yanli says gently. "A-Xian, we came back so we could stop hiding. So our children could stop hiding."
Wei Wuxian softens. "Okay, okay. But then, realistically, I am going to have to kill a sect leader. Or two. Definitely no more than three."
It really says something that Jiang Cheng is his less irritating brother in law.

lan wangji does not know that his forehead ribbon truly was askew the second time wei wuxian pointed it out, now does he
as i’ve mentioned before, lan wangji also does not know that wei wuxian had alike scars in his back as a punishment for having saved him
lan sizhui and the rest of the juniors have no idea about the story hanguang-jun and senior wei had together. if they saw the dire situation where they screamed at each other and fought, they’d be really shocked, because: seriously, these two men are so goddamn shamelessly affectionate in a daily basis, how could they ever had conflicts?
jiang yanli, jin zixuan, wei wuxian and the wens’ deaths were basically in the same couple of days. none of them actually know that besides wei wuxian. jiang yanli and the wens think they’ve died to save wei wuxian, but in the end it just spared him some more time. he died not long after anyway.
no one despite lan xichen has any idea why lan wangji was so interested in bunnies out of a sudden, right? he just one day appeared with a ton and they just thought, ‘oh yea, it’s hanguang-jun, we’ve got him covered’
if wei wuxian’s mother saw how much her boy tormented lan qiren and the lan clan in general, from what her reputation precedes, she’d possibly smile proudly
everyone still thinks wei wuxian was the preferred ‘son’ instead of jiang cheng. they think he’s got a privileged childhood for living with the jiangs being treated not as a servant, but as part of the family! they dont know everything he’s been through in that goddamn fucking environment!!
perhaps meng yao would’ve been more empathic towards wei wuxian if he actually got to know his tragic backstory in the streets and with the jiangs. maybe if he got to know him better, before the sunshot campaign events. they were treated unfairly in resembling points, weren’t they, after all?
nie huaisang and wen qing would be like brother and sister if they were to know each other. they never did. in fact, wen qing wasn’t spoken about or to enough.
mentioning the public eye again, for them it’s like wei wuxian was the dishonest and devilish son of the two most famous, righteous rogue cultivators of their age. and considering madam lan’s past actions, lan wangji is the son of a murderer. historically ironic.
wei wuxian is part of jin ling’s family three times. one as himself (martial uncle), second as being in the body of mo xuanyu (biologically an uncle) and third as being the husband of lan wangji, lan xichen’s brother, who’s sworn brother with his uncle (a very distant relative, but a relative likewise, especially since being sworn brothers is such an intimate thing there).
the lan disciples simply saw hanguang-jun, the epitome of righteousness and the king of blank expressions, pick a random gay demonic cultivator one day and let him tag along on his adventures only for them to get married later because, yeah, that’s the yiling patriarch, in fact, why nobody told me my idol had a situationship with the biggest badass villain in history??
from somewhere within, mo xuanyu is oddly satisfied for seeing wei wuxian getting a proper revenge for him and a bunch of other stuff, beyond having very gay sex with the hanguang-jun — can you imagine?! he must think that at least his body served for a good cause!!!

I was looking for this fic where Wei Wuxian doesn't get adopted by the Jiangs.( I'm not sure if it was because he retained his memories of his earlier life.) Anyway... he gets the Dafan Wens at Yiling and closes Yiling with a barrier that no one can break through.
At some point Lan Wangji comes by and meets Wei Wuxian and there's a little bit of an identity crisis happening because Wuxian doesn't want to tell Wangji who he is but the smart Lan figures it out (I think lol) Also the war happens (again not so sure) but anyway all the sects comes to ask for refuge at Yiling.
The part I remember really well is where The Jiangs come by boat and Yu furen is her usual self with her condescending attitude.
I also remember a section where, towards the beginning, Wuxian actually cures the Burial mounds and like the entire village just loves him and takes care of him because he's such an angel.
Please find this for me cuz I went through 115 pages in my history and still couldn't find it. @poetic-writes

It is a MDZSxTGCF crossover, it starts with Wei Ying arriving to ghost city after his death and Hualian finding him (I'm pretty sure he calls Xie Lian an angel at some point). Some time later, Lan Zhan travels to the ghost city to find Wei Ying, he doesn't find him but Hua Cheng lent him some luck so they can reunite soon.

5. hi! im looking for a fic where the juniors of lotus pier think wwx gives the worst punishment. in reality, wwx just deliveres them to the most appropriate adult to deal with it. like if the best punishment would be "im not mad just disappointed" lecture, then he'll drop the kids off to jaing yanli or if they need handstands then to lan wangji and so on.. but wwx himself rarely punished them and somehow the juniors came to the conclusion that he must give out the worst punishment

It’s a modern AU, where LQR suggests a marriage between JYL and LWJ (after a scandal with JGS comes to light, making JZX a bad option even though JYL still wants to marry him). But LWJ and WWX are already secretly dating, so WWX chaperones JYL and LWJ on a “date” where they finally tell her they are together, and then go about telling the rest of their family through the rest of the fic. @eorlgreylady

7. What I remember from it is that WWX was in the bath before some people broke into the jingshi and held him hostage when LWJ got back. He had a string to his throat, or a knife not fully sure. After the guys that broke in were killed and it was like the next day, JC came by and the three of them started talking in the middle of CR so that the others would know that LWJ killed the men because they tried to kill his husband and if they wanted to see the scar left across WWX's throat.

i remember a lot but these are the important bits: modern au, wwx & lwj used to be classmates, nhs finally convinced wwx to confess his feelings for lwj, and when he did (in public, blurting out loud cause he was VERY nervous), lwj thought it was a prank, got angry and rejected wwx. wwx was devastated, nhs felt guilty, planned to drink & then met wen xu. wwx and wen xu get together, but wwx ran away (?) with wx. he was actually in an abusive & manipulative relationship with wx. then wwx adopts wen yuan and he fled with wy. years later, wwx owns a cafe, wy is a teen and they accidentally meet lwj again at the cafe. the junior ensemble is there, things happen and wx finds wwx but there is a happy ending.

There was also a mention that LQR was horrified, because the other times he expelled someone, they simply petitioned to be readmitted to the school and he was expecting that to happen with WWX.

The next second, there is a bright light and a man dressed in black appearing in the middle of field, brandishing a pitch black dizi with red tassel like a weapon. “GIVE ME BACK MY HUSBAND!” he shouts as he blindly tries to kick Lan Qiren. There is chaos—Jiang Cheng shouting ‘what the fuck, what the fuck’, Nie Huaisang screeching in horror, Lan Qiren trying to outshout everyone, and Lan Xichen trying to bring order—which is broken by a huff and a sound of laughter from Hanguang-jun. The unknown man, hair tied in half high ponytail with red ribbon, whips his head to the source of laughter. When he sees Hanguang-jun, everyone can see the rapid change of his emotion from anger to astonishment to a besotted one. “Er-gege!” the man cheers, leaving the chaos he has made to run to Hanguang-jun who has already opened his arms. “Er-gege! You laugh! Your poor husband has missed you so!” “Husband,” Hanguang-jun answers, catching the man who has thrown himself at the older Lan Wangji’s embrace without any shame. “I miss you too.” “!!! Lan Zhan! I told you to give me warning before speaking like that! Your husband’s heart can’t take it!”

Lan Qiren coughs out blood as he points at the shameless couple with a shaky finger. “Y-you! The pig that touches my nephew! What did you said your name again?” he shouts in anger, wiping the blood that drops on his chin with his other hand. The man in black stops kissing Hanguang-jun just to laugh again. But, after he seemingly understands that he needs to explain and can’t keep playing around, he detaches himself from the older Lan Wangji—who quickly wraps an arm around the other man’s waist—and bows low to Lan Qiren’s direction. “This humble one is your worst student, Wei Ying!” he greets cheerfully. “Courtesy name Wei Wuxian, of Gusu Lan Sect… I have a forehead ribbon and all! Do you want to see, Uncle?” the man begins rummaging the lapel of his robes before pulling a Cloud Patterned forehead ribbon with triumph. “You are not Wei Wuxian!” Jiang Cheng snaps, pulling his shixiong to stand behind him. “The fuck, you look nothing like him! What kind of joke is it?!” “The joke is I died once and got offered a body—aw, Lan Zhan, don’t look like that!” Wei Wuxian—the older one—smiles gently at the stunned and pale-faced younger Lan Wangji who loses all the color on his face at the word ‘I died’. “I am alright.”

They have been separated for too many weeks. They are so shameless that even Wei Wuxian can’t look at any of them at their eyes—even if one of them is still him. Wei Wuxian can’t imagine him and Lan Zhan being that shameless. Especially Lan Zhan. No simping in the Cloud Recesses!!
I received permission to write a ficlet based off this amazing post by the lovely @lovewanxian and this is the result. They're working on their own fic on the same premise, so make sure to give them some love when they post it <3
I had a lot of fun writing this and drank a lot of water to quench the thirst. It didn't work, but I highly recommend hydration - and have fun!
Lan Sizhui is suffering.
Now before you get up in arms about who to kill, it's not that kind of suffering. Nobody's trying to kill him and Lan Jingyi's pranks have yet to land him in the infirmary - the suffering that's plaguing Lan Sizhui is spiritual.
No, it's not a qi deviation, although he is quite sure he's heading that way far too quickly for his age and skill level. And he didn't get cursed either - hm, well, that's debatable in the circumstances - but the point is, his suffering isn't caused by anything that's related to cultivation or any outside interference.
Lan Sizhui is suffering because all his friends are simping.
But that's normal teenage boy behavior, you might argue. Teenagehood is, virtually, the best age to simp, it's basically in the job description for the ages between 13 and 19.
Fair, but Lan Sizhui's friends are simping over Senior Wei, who is twice their age, married and one of Sizhui's beloved father figures. See the issue yet?
Imagine all your friends do all day is lament over how much they want your dad to "punish" them, how hot his ghostly cultivation is and how much they wish he'd turn them into fierce corpses - Sizhui suffering makes sense now, doesn't it?
And he's been through this before. His friends' first crush has largely been Hanguang-Jun. Understandable - Sizhui has eyes, and he can admit he's attractive, objectively speaking.
To Sizhui, he's been the closest thing to a parent for many years, so thinking of him as anything less is weird - but facts are facts. Hanguang-Jun is powerful, domineering, but kind and supportive. These are all attractive features.
Sizhui has long grown used to Jingyi fangirling over him, and to the self-insert fic black market he ran out of their room from ages 12 to 15. He's done handstands for days to atone for it, and has made peace with it.
Of course, all juniors have kept some degree of Hanguang-Jun worship and, as the female disciples put it, "fanny flutters", but the crushing has evolved into admiration rather than infatuation and Sizhui only has to deal with number one Hanguang-Jun stan fluttering over his dad.
And then Senior Wei came about and Sizhui's peace of mind has gone to hell.
Disclaimer for all of you clutching your pearls right now: Sizhui loves Senior Wei very much and is infinitely grateful to have him back, has even slipped and called him "baba" a few times. The problem doesn't lay with Senior Wei at all.
The problem lays with the entirety of the Lan junior population (please let it be just the juniors, if the seniors simp over Senior Wei too, Sizhui's going to defect) being shameless about a man that's treated them as nothing less than his unofficially adopted children.
And how do they show their gratitude? By lusting over him and moaning about how lucky Hanguang-Jun is to bed him every night.
Lan Sizhui is suffering.

Lan Wangji is suffering.
No, he isn't dying, cursed, qi deviating or having to sit through sect leader Yao's rants - he's being Wei Ying's teacher assistant for his introductory talisman course.
It may sound confusing - how could that be a cause for suffering? Lan Wangji loves his husband and being around him, finds his inventions fascinating and likes helping him. So what's the issue?
The issue is that literally nobody in that whole entire classroom is paying any attention to the lesson. Sword to their neck, he is positive neither of them would be able to recall not even the past five minutes of talisman theory.
But ask them anything about Wei Ying and they'd rant for hours. And Lan Wangji doubts it would be a respectful rant.
Because the Lan juniors may not be paying attention to talismans, but by God are they paying attention to their teacher. Lan Wangji can virtually see the hearts in their eyes and the bloodflow directing down south - and he hates it. Wei Ying is being such a thorough teacher, he's putting his heart and soul into it, but his class seems fascinated only with the robes he wears, the way he moves, and they nearly break their necks to look at him when he turns his back to write something on the blackboard.
(Okay, Lan Wangji does too, sue him, that's his husband, he's allowed.)
Point is, these kids are entirely undisciplined. Lusting after seniors is not explicitly forbidden in the rules, but Lan Wangji is going to suggest his uncle adds it to the list. This way, he can hand harsh punishments fairly. Nobody is allowed to have horny thoughts about his husband except for him.
And it's not like the kids are being subtle about it either.
Here's an exmple.
Wei Ying's just finished demonstrating the penmanship for a banishing talisman, and encouraged the students to try it themselves, as he would walk among them and offer help where needed.
Everyone - everyone except Sizhui and Jingyi - needed help. Even those that Lan Wangji knew to be specialized in talisman work.
Everyone needed Senior Wei to take their hand in his, lean closely and direct their brush strokes. Everyone needed to be spoken to softly and encouraged to try again.
Lan Wangji has broken two brushes already and he's probably going to move to breaking fingers next.
One of the students, Lan Yichen, Hanguang-Jun's third favorite after his two ducklings (yes, they're his favorites, no, nobody knows and this doesn't cloud his judgement, yes, they're his ducklings), raised his hand and called for "teacher Wei" (Lan Wangji glares his way, but of course the little horny bastard has no time to look anywhere but at Wei Ying).
"What's wrong?" Wei Ying very obliviously asks and Lan Wangji feels the wood of his third brush crack in his grip.
"I really don't know why this talisman won't burn correctly..." Lan Yichen whines, looking up at his senior through his lashes, pathetic and submissive.
Lan Wangji will have him copy the rules about propriety fourty times.
Wei Ying looks over his shoulder at his talisman, and doesn't see the way the boy leans into his scent just a little bit, his cheeks dusting red at the close contact.
Lan Wangji fights the urge to grip Bichen. He can't kill a kid. Come on.
Wei Ying takes the brush from his hand and glides it once over the talisman paper. He smiles encouragingly at Yichen, who's managed to make himself look borderline tearful. "Let's try it together now."
"T-Together?"
Lan Wangji is a strong man. Self-disciplined, in control. He doesn't know how much longer he'll be able to stop himself from - what was the word Jingyi used... ah yes - yeeting that young man all the way to his home sect.
"I'll send in some of my spiritual energy, and you send in the rest. Let's see if anything cool happens, yeah?"
The boy looks like he's won the lottery. Lan Wangji can see it behind the sopping wet cat look. The brush in his hand is halfway broken now.
The talisman lights up blue and dissipates.
"Wow!" Lan Yichen shouts, as if he hasn't been using talismans for the past 5-7 years of his cultivation career. "You're so good at this, teacher Wei!"
Wei Ying laughs and pats the boy's head before returning to his teaching desk. Behind him, the boy looks like he's just ascended. Or had an orgasm.
Either way, Lan Wangji breaks his brush in little smithereens and tries talking himself out of murder.
"These kids are so distracted today." Wei Ying sighs. "I knew I shouldn't have taken you with me, all they do is look at you."
It takes all Lan Wangji has not to side eye his husband.

Lan Sizhui walks into his room after having tea with his dads - they always have tea together before night hunts, a little ritual to lift their spirits and... well, for a last memory if something bad happens. It's a risk of the job, after all, though it's highly unlikely, considering how powerful both Hanguang-Jun and Senior Wei are.
So, Sizhui happily returns to his room to get ready and finds several of his friends all over the place, looking much like the backstage to a courtesan show. Some are struggling on deciding which robes to put on, others fight for natural light to powder their faces and the rest struggle with hairstyles.
"Hello, people who do not live here. Where's Jingyi?"
"Getting scolded for calling sect leader Nie cunty to his face at the last discussion conference." One of the boys, Lan Haoran, answers, blending the powder into his skin to hide acne scars. "He's not allowed to come to the night hunt with us."
"That's a compliment." Sizhui replies, and barely manages to reach his wardrobe for clothes in the mess.
"Tell that to teacher Lan Qiren."
"Anyway, what are you guys doing here?"
"Getting ready for the night hunt, duh!" Another, Lan Lixin, says, fixing a golden hairpiece in his bun.
"And since when does night hunting entail a makeover?"
"You want us to look like shit with Senior Wei around?!" Lan Tao exclaims, emerging from the bathroom in a delicately ornate set of light blue robes. "We have to look presentable."
Sizhui rolls his eyes. "You know he only has eyes for Hanguang-Jun."
"It's worth a try." Lan Lixin says, taking a final look in the mirror. "And anyway, last time he said he liked my hairpin, so what more could a man want from life?"
Sizhui takes in a deep breath to calm down. "And why are you lot here instead of your own rooms?"
"Your room has the best lighting." Lan Haoran responds. "God, I really need to invest in some skincare."
"Anyways, do you guys think we'll get to see Senior Wei control the Ghost General this time?" Lan Tao asks.
There are three dreamy sighs in response.
"I wish he'd control me like that. He wouldn't even need Chenqing, I'd just do anything he wanted stat."
"Same. I love when he gets all serious, I'd love him to get like that with me~"
"You guys realize I'm right here, right?"

Wei Ying saves his third Lan junior of the night and he's starting to grow tired. Of course, he doesn't expect them to be able to take on a night hunt independently and succeed at it, he's quite sure they've never been so uncoordinated before.
The strings of the guqin vibrate loudly and the fierce corpses kneel, growling in pain. Wei Ying rushes to pluck yet another child from their grasps and sends a burst of resentful energy their way. "It's alright, I got you."
The boy in his arms whines and hides further in Wei Ying's chest. He didn't get hurt that badly, but Wei Ying figures it must have been terrifying for him to be nearly torn into, so his reaction is understandable.
He gently lays the boy against a tree, wipes some dirt off his face and sends him a reassuring smile. "It's all right now, you're safe."
"Thank you, senior Wei..."
Lan Wangji rolls his eyes as his fingers move over the guqin. Who knew the Lan have so many aspiring actors in their ranks?
Wei Ying lifts Chenqing to his lips and a shrill tune fills the silence. The fierce corpses writhe at the sound, and, holding the flute with one hand, Wei Ying sends three talismans to immobilize them.
A nod is all it takes for Hanguang-Jun to send Bichen their way.
"Wow..." the "injured" juniors exclaim, eyes fixated on senior Wei, his eyes glowing red and expression determined.
Sizhui, who's unfortunately been delegated to tend to their wounds, fastens a bandage a bit too hard on one of his friends, pulling his attention away.
"You lot are being ridiculous. You could've gotten killed."
Lan Tao clutches his arm, eyes full of horny ideas as he stares at the way Senior Wei sends resentful tendrils towards the fierce corpses. "I wonder what else he can do with those."
"You know what, I'm going to kill you myself actually."
"What's your issue, Sizhui? It's not like it's our fault senior Wei is a DILF." Lan Lixin huffs.
"I do not want to know what that means."
"It means dad I'd like to fu-"
Lan Lixin finds his lips glued together. Hanguang-Jun sends him an icy look. "Stop talking. Conserve your energy."
"Serves you right." Sizhui mumbles. "I was wondering when Hanguang-Jun will do something about you horn dogs."
Lan Lixin glares meaningfully at him, but Sizhui pretends not to see it.
"You guys need to stop thirsting after my family. Hanguang-Jun, now Senior Wei, who's next, the Ghost General?"
The boys appear to actually be considering the possibility and Sizhui barely stops himself from liberally smacking the backs of their heads.
At least Hanguang-Jun and Senior Wei have slain all the fierce corpses, and the night hunt is over.
If he has to see his friends act so pathetic for attention again, Sizhui is going to just jump in horde of fierce corpses sword-less.

"Ahh, Lan Zhan, you were even more beastly than usual today!" Wei Ying whines as he takes his rightful place on his husband's chest. "I'm not complaining, of course, but what brought this on?"
Lan Wangji decides not to answer, placing a possessive arm around Wei Ying's waist underneath the covers. "Mine."
"Yours, always." Wei Ying leaves a soft kiss on Lan Zhan's neck. "Hey, did you set up the silencing talismans before we started? I don't remember anymore."
"...yes."
Wei Ying hums and burrows further into Lan Zhan's chest, pliant and sleepy. "Good, good, we would've probably kept the whole inn awake if you hadn't."

The juniors' dark eyebags the next morning and their refusal to look either of their seniors in the eyes is peculiar.
But who can understand the youth these days, really?

wwx scolding jl for emulating jc and sounding like a brat (or maybe more accurately to wwx's complaints, a little bitch) is weirdly satisfying to me. no he thinks the way jc raised jl sucks, actually, and he's trying to fix jl's attitude. here jl goes along with wwx's prank and then yells at him afterwards, even though he himself played along. a bit different from the jc situation sin he's a child, but I imagine wwx got irritated when he was younger a lot when jc would go along with his schemes and them turn around and complain about him as if he didn't particupate

when I was reading swbts this weekend, she mentions that nobody actually follows all the precepts, because it's impractical and absurd. but there were some really obvious ones like 'don't murder' and it's nice to see that the lan precepts include some good things in there besides the well-criticized 'don't laugh without a cause' and such. also, lwj is the only person following every single one anyway and that doesn't have anything to do with whether he's a good person or whether he thinks wwx is a good person, either. they're really not connected and his character development is realizing that

I don't really think about villains in terms of whether they're 'redeemable' or not and I don't like to think of people as ontologically evil but man I don't think xy was ever going to be anything besides what he was. it did suck that he was mutilated as a child, and it must have been difficult growing up on the streets, but the glee with which he talks about mass murder makes me think he would have kind of taken any excuse to go wild and murder a ton of people. 'oh he just needed love and understand' well he got it! and he used it to trick the person who loved him into murdering more people and then he tortured and murdered their teenage ward/friend. I can appreciate a reading where he's more harmless and just funny in his destructiveness, but I will never be able to swallow AUs where he's genuinely a good person. loving murder is just too much a part of him!
there's also a line where the juniors make wwx say that lwj is good at stuff and he seems very taken aback to be asked, which is weird bc aren't they at least traveling companions? maybe he was confused at being asked to give an account with authority since he knows the kids still think he's a random jin exile who's known lwj for like. a few weeks max. man I don't like that moment, it seems really forced and awkward even if wwx is still in his 'I don't quite understand why lwj is doing this or how long it'll last' era. which also seems weird given them moments they've already shared and the comfort wwx has in stating with lwj? man, maybe it's easier if he doesn't have to think about it or explain it to other people. I GUESS

personal highlights:
while this wasn't as horribly dull and poorly done as the last third-party character focused plot (I seriously spent a lot of 34 thinking 'oh god, cql is bad after all), it didn't offer a lot in terms of special moments or humor. a solid 5/10. mediocre. let's see

@absolmon ohoho I didn't think about JL but no I am and he's... not happy.
Seeing that Sizhui and Jingyi were a part of the group that preformed the desecration of his jiujiu, he's not a happy sect leader. You may not want to insult the Jiang Sect Leader, but it's even worse to insult him and then face the Jin Sect Leader.
Jiang Cheng keeps the whole thing a secret both due to his pride and of who the suspects are. He cannot get rid of the pup, because cultivator bodies are not great at removing parts of them, and... he doesn't want to.
It might have been a deeply confusing and barely consensual happenstance, not something he'd choose for himself, not the people he'd ever consider to sire his heir... but it was done and one thing JC knew how to do was rolling with the punches. He was going to keep it and fuck the alpha who sired it. It was his pup, no one else's. His sect will accept the child and if anyone has any issue with it they will have the whole of Yunmeng Jiang to deal with.
Except, Jin Ling is not placated that easily. Once he learns about it (after pressuring jiujiu into telling him the truth, which only happened because JC couldn't stand his nephew beig horrified at the idea of an assault on his person...) he's livid with his friends and his daijiu. How could they?! How could they do that, lose themselves to their instincts and then not take responsibility for it?!
"Now he has a pup and you don't even care!" He finally loses his cool and explodes at his friends. He will punch Huanguang-Jun in the face, no matter what!
...except that is exactly what he shouldn't have said, because none of the four alphas had the slightest incling of the risk taken that night.
WWX chokes on spit, because JC never said... never indicated that this could have been a risk! He just told them to fuck off and left, and WWX left him alone, because he didn't want to stress the omega even more!
And to know he can be a sire of his shidi's pup????
Lan Zhan instantly runs calculations and decides that he needs to take responsibility - he will not leave a pup of his fatherless-_-
The juniors are close to fainting. Sizhui needs to sit for a moment, because he can't imagine himself being this irresponsible! He needs to help and take care of his accidental mate! Jingyi still cannot believe that he'd been inside of the Sect Leader Jiang at all. And that it may have consequences? His parents will murder him in the woods.
And that's how Jiang Cheng wakes up to four alphas invading Lotus Pier, each of them adamant they will take responsibility and be a father to his pup and won't take a 'fuck off' for an answer.
Jiang Cheng doesn't even know which of them is the worst option to be the biological sire-_-
Soooo a/b/o idea.
Omega!JC, stressed with life in general, decides to take a break na goes on a night hunt where he, unfortunately, crosses paths with LWJ and WWX who took their juniors out on an 'adventure'. Well, a group of alphas lead by the Huanguang-Jun and ForgiveAndForget Wei Wuxian is not conducive to relaxing, but abandoning his prey to the alphas is not something he is willing to do - he'll be damned if he gives way to some fucking knothead. He'd spent the last two decades showing alphas where they can shove their superiority complex!
However, in his zeal to capture the wild yao, he gets a bit too close and ends up dosed with sex pollen that sends him into an immediate stress-heat and the alphas around him into a knotting frenzy.
It's an affair that everyone wishes to forget and the alphas swear under the threat of ball-removal that they'll never mention anything to anyone. They split ways, promising to forget.
Except JC cant forget that easily - not when two months in, his stomach starts to swell and his head medic tells him he's carrying a pup.
Jiang Cheng would gladly murder the alpha responsible - if he knew who it was!

“I thought this was going to be fun,” Wei Wuxian said, slumping against a convenient rock.
“Why did you think being stuck in a cave would be fun?” Lan Qiren asked suspiciously. “Also, sitting improperly is forbidden. You shouldn’t slouch!”
Wei Wuxian groaned.
He turned to look at Lan Qiren, who was sitting on top of a large rock. Quite properly, of course.
“How do you know so many rules?” he asked. “Aren’t you five?”
“I’m six.”
“Right, right. Six it is.”
Wei Wuxian wondered how in the world this had gone to such not fun places.
He’d thought meeting the great and fearsome Teacher Lan as a small child would be hilarious – he’d imagined a chubby-cheeked little hellion and an armload of stories that he’d be able to tell Lan Wangji and the juniors when he got back to his own time.
Instead, he got…well.
At least Lan Qiren was, in fact, chubby-cheeked.
He was also already a rigid old stickler who insisted on reciting the rules. A lot.
“That’s still an awful lot of rules to know, at your age,” Wei Wuxian said with a sigh, putting his chin on his hand. “You’ve already recited at least two dozen. Do you already know them all?”
Lan Qiren blushed.
He actually blushed.
Maybe this wasn’t that bad as all that. He was so cute.
“Not all of them,” Lan Qiren said meekly, hanging his head despondently. “Not on anything more than the surface level. I’m learning them as fast as I can, though.”
Wei Wuxian wanted to pinch his cheeks and ruffle his hair. Now this was more like what he’d been hoping for! Sure, he hadn’t expected someone who ended up with the sort of temper the elder Lan Qiren had to be such a shy cutie, but here they were, and where they were was amazing.
It’d be a bit better if they weren’t stuck in a cave, of course, but he supposed you couldn’t have everything…
“Senior Mo?”
“Mm?”
“Can I start reciting the rules again?” Lan Qiren asked. He was still looking at the ground. “It makes me feel better.”
Wei Wuxian pressed his hands to his chest as if it would contain the overwhelming feeling of having seen a tiny little kitten mew at him. This was so, so precious.
“Why would you feel bad?” he asked, smiling his best ‘trust me’ smile. “Just because we’re stuck in this cave? Don’t worry about it! We’re here together, aren’t we? We’ll find a way out.”
Boundless confidence usually worked on children, but Lan Qiren shook his head.
“I missed my schedule,” he said, and he sounded anxious, the poor thing. “I’m late for three whole things, and if we don’t get out, I’ll be late for the entire day.”
“So what? Think of it as a day off!”
Lan Qiren looked horrified. “Things have to be done in order,” he insisted. His little fists were balled up. “If they’re not done in order, they’ll be done wrong.”
“Is that so bad?”
“Yes,” Lan Qiren said, and something about his tone made Wei Wuxian turned to really look at him, surprised – Lan Qiren’s face was starting to scrunch up in genuine distress; he was very nearly on the verge of tears. “The rules are how people are supposed to behave. If you just follow them the right way, things will be all right. People won’t be angry at you, or hate you, or – or – not love you –”
“Oh, wait, hey there,” Wei Wuxian said, alarmed, reaching out for him, but it was too late; Lan Qiren curled himself up into a little ball and hid his face in his sleeves and…great, now Wei Wuxian felt like the world’s biggest bully. “Hey there, it’s all right, okay? Perform acts of chivalry is one of your foundational rules. I’m a guest here, your responsibility as the host, and you’re being chivalrous by caring for me. That outweighs the rules on punctuality or your chores, doesn’t it?”
Lan Qiren nodded. He seemed a little appeased, although he still looked miserable and anxious, his little hands twisting in his sleeves.
Wei Wuxian wondered, suddenly, whether there was some basis to that anxiety. He himself had never taken any of Madame Yu’s harsh words to heart – it wasn’t in his nature, he’d always been the sort of person who forgot pains as soon as they were over, but he knew others weren’t like him. Take poor Jiang Cheng, who tended to stew over the littlest thing, ruminating over things that were said long after the person who’d said them had forgotten them, even when they weren’t aimed at him. If Lan Qiren were more like Jiang Cheng…or worse, if some asshole in the sect actually did tell this poor child that he wouldn’t be loved if he didn’t get the rules right, which Wei Wuxian could definitely believe…ugh, no wonder the kid was terrified.
Wei Wuxian tried to suppress a grimace.
“Hey,” he said, aiming for casual. “Haven’t you ever taken a day off before? What does your mother say about that?”
“She’s dead.”
…oh, well done, Wei Wuxian. Well done.
First Jin Ling, now this – he just had a way of sticking his foot right in it, didn’t he?
“She died a few years ago,” Lan Qiren added, scrunching up his nose. “I don’t really remember her. My big brother said I killed her.”
Wei Wuxian had been about to try to change the subject, but he choked on air.
“He what?” he said, and then realized his volume had increased dramatically when Lan Qiren winced. “Sorry, I think I must have misheard you. He said you…what?”
“She got sick when I was born, it hurt her health,” Lan Qiren explained. “It was the same sickness that made it hard for her to go outside, and eventually she died because of it. So my big brother says…”
“He says that that makes it your fault?” Wei Wuxian asked, and Lan Qiren nodded. “Well, I say your big brother’s stupid.”
“You can’t say that! Talking behind others’ backs is forbidden!”
“Fine. He’s wrong, then. There’s no way that her death can be blamed on you, any more than my parents’ death in a night-hunt can be blamed on me needing to be fed and clothed and them needing to take on jobs no one else wants to make enough money to do that.” Wei Wuxian frowned a little. “How old is he, anyway?”
If this big brother (presumably the one who would be Lan Xichen and Lan Wangji’s father, and therefore empirically proven to be wrong) was only a year or two older, seven or eight, maybe such a terrible statement could be forgiven as lashing out in grief, but to lash out like that, especially to someone younger, was only just barely within the realms of acceptable – maybe if it had happened right at the time, with several years having passed since the time of the statement –
“He’s ten years older than me,” Lan Qiren said. “Which means he’s…uh…”
“He’s sixteen?!” Wei Wuxian yelped. “And he said – when did he say it? Right after she died?”
Lan Qiren blinked owlishly at him. “No, he says it every once in a while, whenever he’s really angry at me. The last time was a few months ago, I think? Why? Does it matter?”
Wei Wuxian had a sudden urge to play a very mean prank on a teenager. Which was immature of him, but also, what was wrong with Lan Wangji’s father? Well – wrong with him on top of everything Wei Wuxian already knew was wrong with him?
“Didn’t your father say something?”
“When?”
“…when your brother said that to you.”
“Oh. No. I don’t think he was there – I only see him once a month, and only if I’ve done well enough in my classes.”
Wei Wuxian could feel his eye twitching.
Lan Qiren must have noticed, because he tried to clarify: “There’s no reason for me to go see him if I haven’t done well, since there’s nothing worth saying to be said to him if I haven’t,” he explained, very earnestly and very obviously trying to be helpful, when in fact every word out of his mouth was making it worse. “My teachers have explained it to me. If I haven’t done well, it’s better not to see him at all – that way I’ll just get scolded.”
He looked a little wistful, though. As if he wouldn’t mind the scolding, if it meant he could see his father more often.
Wei Wuxian had seen a similar expression on Jiang Cheng’s face more than a few times.
“He wouldn’t have said anything, anyway,” Lan Qiren added, the wistfulness fading into sadness. “He likes my brother better.”
When they’d been young, every time Jiang Cheng got like this, Wei Wuixan would reassure him and then distract him, cheering him up with nonsense and promises of a better future. With this little doll-like Lan Qiren, whose future Wei Wuxian already knew – a future that saw him an old man before his time, stuck leading the Lan sect for years and years, raising his nephews, teaching brats like Wei Wuxian himself, absolutely none of which Wei Wuxian could say for sure that Lan Qiren had ever actually wanted because he’d never asked, never questioned, never wondered if the older man had a life or dreams or ambitions…
“I’m going to get us out of this cave,” Wei Wuxian said, suddenly reenergized. “And then, since the day’s lost anyway, we are going to go have some fun, you and me. I’m going to give you an adventure you’ll never forget!”
“I thought you said we were going to have fun,” Lan Qiren grumbled. “An adventure doesn’t sound fun.”
What a little old man he was.
When Wei Wuxian got back to the future, he’d have to…probably say nothing ever, except maybe to Lan Wangji; Lan Qiren would undoubtedly be horrified if Wei Wuxian ever made an actual overture of friendship or anything like that, and finding out that Wei Wuxian had met him in his childhood might very well drive him into an apoplexy of rage and embarrassment.
Not that that was going to stop Wei Wuxian. He’d find a way to make it up to the old man if it was the last thing he ever did!

That one time the Juniors became kittens
They Juniors should have really known better than poking at the weird talisman they found in Wei Wuxian's workshop. Mainly because they found it Wei Wuxian's workshop, but also, you know, good safety practices. Anyway, the resident mad genius comes back from his (kissing Lan Wangji) break to find four adorable little kittens on the floor. Once he is sure this is temporary and will eventually wear off on its own, he moves straight to being ecstatic. Finally he can hug all four of them at the same time!
Lan Qiren, after being briefed on the situation, gives some serious consideration to entering seclusion. There is only some much weirdness a man his age can take. Lan Wangji caught sight of Wei Wuxian napping on a sunbeam with four kittens on top of him and has been frozen by the visual since.
The Jingshi becomes much more lively, especially given that Jin Ling would see anything that dangles (but especially Chenqing's tassel) and go "Toy! Must bat! So swingy!" And then overestimate the motion and yeet himself off the table or something. Plus, and in spite of the fact he's the smallest, he spends the whole time he is a cat insisting that he can meow like an adult cat (he can't, it's a squeak, and Wei Wuxian won't stop saying how adorable it is).
Wei Wuxian takes to carrying all four of them around "to keep them safe". One on each shoulder and the other two in his robes. He rocks up to some meeting like that. Lan Wangji decides to take a page from his husband's book and attend to his Chief Cultivator duties while letting Sizhui and Jingyi climb on his shoulders. Look, if the Lan sect didn't want kittens using them as climbing posts, then they shouldn't have some many parts of their outfits practically made to be batted.
Imagine the confusion when someone mentions that pets aren't allowed in Cloud Recesses and certainly don't have a place in important meetings, and someone says that the kittens are actually highly valued members of the sect and disrespectful comments will not be tolerated. It is Lan Xichen. Completely blank faced (the neutral face of displeasure). He was not pleased to have his play time with the kittens interrupted by this very tedious meeting.

10. Chenqing as eunuch-in-chief scares everyone
Raven hair and coal-black eyes, Chen-gongong is the most beautiful man in the entire palace - well, he would be, if that pale bloodless frozen face of his would stop being so deathlike. Chenqing is slim and tall and speaks in a hushed tenor tone that strikes the fear of the reaper into the heart of men and women alike.
Nobody knows when or how Chenqing became an eunuch, only that Lord Protector Wei Wuxian brought Chenqing in when he became Regent. Some say Chenqing was already an eunuch before, some say he willingly became one to continue serving Wei Wuxian within the palace.
Truth is: Chenqing was an orphan that Cangse took in when she was the master of Yiling. WWX grows up with Chenqing and knows Chenqing has suffered mutilations at the hands of human traffickers. It's not clear if Cangse taught Chenqing some forbidden pugilist knowledge.
Chenqing knows everything about everyone in the palace. That's why his sleeves are so wide, they're full of secrets.
Chenqing is no less deadly than Suibian when it comes to the art of killing, even though General Sui is the Commander of the Imperial Guards.
No eunuch, handmaid or guard dare whisper what they all suspect - Chen-gongong and Sui-tongling are lovers.
WWX is too busy to care that his right and left hand men are boning.
11. Lan Xichen is the Deputy Imperial Tutor, meaning he is in charge of Jiang Cheng's education growing up.
Recall JC is 8 years WWX's junior and 10 years JYL's junior. LXC is 5 years WWX's senior which makes him 13 years older than JC. When JC became emperor at age 12, LXC was already 25.
LXC's life is incredibly difficult. JFM handpicked him to teach young JC before he died.
It's hard to be the teacher of a boy who's technically in charge of you and the rest of the nation.

Her son, who died several hours after birth from congenital defects, was recorded as JC's first son, and first prince.
Dowager Empress Yu Ziyuan ordered Meng Yao be killed. Meng Yao was privately executed...except he wasn't. Wei Wuxian arranged for him to be brought to Yiling. He's living a good life now. Lan Xichen writes to him.

After Jiang Fengmian married Jiang Yanli off to tribal warlord!Wen Ruohan, she made the best of her circumstances.
Though WRH has other concubines/slave girls, JYL is the only legal wife, in place of his first legal wife who died many years ago.
WRH is twenty five years JYL's senior, and already has two sons by his first wife. WC is the same age as JYL while WX is two years older. While WRH is alive, WX and WC have no choice but to respect their stepmother, bc their father absolutely does not tolerate insubordination.
WY is born within a year of the marriage and soon becomes WRH's favourite child.

WRH launches a campaign against country when JC is 21 years old and has only been officially emperor for about a year (WWX ended his regency when JC turned 20).
The war starts off bloody - JC doesn't sleep for days. WWX and LWJ are unreachable since they've gone off on an early retirement trip through the mountains. Somehow JC holds his own for months. Things take a turn for the better.
WY is 15 years old and leading a division by himself for the first time. WRH is very proud of him. WY is very talented, but WC and WX sabotage him and get him captured by JC's armies and stealing WY's victory for themselves.
WWX and LWJ are on their way back to the capital when they encounter the squadron that captured WY. WY: Kill me. I will not be your hostage against my father. WWX: Xiao-wangzi - little prince - you know the common tongue? WY: My a-niang was from the empire. WWX: ... a-niang? *sudden realization*
Half the court wants to use WY as a bargaining chip to negotiate a ceasefire against WRH and the other half wants to execute the little foreign prince to show WRH who's boss.
Suddenly, just as the Jiang empire seems to be turning tides, WRH dies. Stroke -rumour has it.
Now that there's no longer any reason to appease WRH, the court wants WY dead, regardless of who his mother is. Politics is brutal that way.

Hi, I was just thinking abt Lan Wangji in the Burial mounds arc. He and JC were the only people who actually saw the wens and their condition. But he... still did'nt do anything to help.
It just makes me wonder if wwx and the wens really were in such poverty bcz wwx did actually offer to treat lwj even tho he ended up paying( or was that just wwx being excited to see his crush) So i wonder was he financially stable then?? But it still doesn't make sense bcz logically wwx didn't go to lotus pier so he probably only had money he had on his person. I'm sure WQ had a qiankun pouch on her bcz its mentioned she had her sword with her. But then again, wwx is the sole breadwinner for 50 PEOPLE without any support system on a mountain of corpses. Their life really can't be easy.
Basically, I think my question revolves down to LWJ. Why do you think Lwj did'nt help wwx?( he did pay for a meal and bought A-yuan some toys but that's abt it) I understand that even if he said to Xichen that the wens were innocent, the cultivation world might not leave them free. But he could still provide material support right?? Like, idk I'll expect that kind of assholish behaviour from JC and JYL but LWJ?? I thought he was more honourable than that.
Ah I wouldn't get ahead of myself about WWX's finances anon... because he only offers to treat LWJ because he didn't spend his money on potatoes! Imagine! How much could potatoes cost?!

Lan WangJi was pushed onto the sitting mat. Glancing at the menu, he replied, “You can order.”
Wei WuXian, “I’m treating you, so of course you’re the one ordering. Order whatever you like. Don’t be so polite.” Good thing he didn’t buy the poisonous sprouted potatoes so now he had the money to pay. Lan WangJi wasn’t someone who liked to decline things too many times, either. After some thought, he ordered.
(;´༎ຶٹ༎ຶ`). And even when he buys the jade pendant and tassel for Jin Ling's present, money is tight:
Wei WuXian tossed to him the delicate sandalwood box that he was holding. Wen Ning caught it and opened it to see a tassel pendant that hung a piece of white jade. The jade was translucent. In it, soft light flowed as though it was alive.
He beamed, “It’s so pretty!”
Wei WuXian, “The pretty little thing wasn’t cheap at all. Your sister’s money almost wasn’t enough for buying this after a new outfit. I don’t have a single coin left anyways. I’ll just wait for the scolding when we get back.”
Wen Ning hurried, “No, no. Young Master is buying a present for Maiden Jiang’s child. Sister won’t scold you.”
Wei WuXian, “Mark your words. When she scolds me, remember to help out a bit.”
It's good to remember that after his time in the streets as an orphan WWX used to carry a lot of money with him and was very generous, so it was quite a change in his circumstances:
Wei Wuxian bought a large assortment of knick knacks and other items in Caiyi Town, brought them back to the Cloud Recesses, and divided and handed them out to the other junior disciples. (chapter 18)
“If you ask someone a lot of questions, you have to give them a gift to thank them for their trouble. Originally, I was going to give them some silver, but they got scared and didn’t want to take it. I found that they liked the smell of the rouge. They didn’t seem as though they’ve used that type of thing before, so I gave it to them.”
After a pause, he continued, “Hanguang Jun, why are you looking at me like that? It’s not as though that box of rouge is especially high-quality. And I’m nothing like how I was before—I used to always carry a whole pile of jewelry and flowery things to give to the ladies. I didn’t have anything else to give them, and it’s better than nothing.” (Chapter 33)
Wei Wuxian wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry. Ah-qing was only a teenager, probably not even fifteen at the time, but she could curse at someone with remarkable fluidity. She could snatch their purses even more deftly. If you pickpocketed me, you definitely wouldn’t be cursing about me like this. Back in the day, I had a lot of money.
He was still in the middle of sighing in self-pity, wondering when he had become so broke, when Ah-qing found her next target. (chapter 37)
Wei WuXian told him multiple times not to move before finally walking away. He had often tucked spare money into corners of his clothes, and now it became of use—at least he had money to buy things. (Chapter 59)
Still WWX takes his new situation in stride. It's only around LWJ that he bemoans the absence of tea bc he wants the best for LWJ.
Wen Ning said as well, “Yeah, Young Master Lan, sit and have some tea…” As he spoke, he shifted the tray in his hands a bit nearer to Lan WangJi. Two teacups, washed extremely clean, sat on the tray.
Yet, Wei WuXian only glanced at them before complaining, “How dingy. Asking a guest to drink plain water—there aren’t even tea leaves in here!”
Wen Ning, “I asked and they said they didn’t have any. Uncle Four said that they didn’t store tea leaves…”
Wei WuXian took up one of the cups and had a gulp, “This really doesn’t seem right. Prepare some the next time a guest comes over.” He only felt how funny it was after he said it. How could there be a next time, and how could there be another guest?" (Chapter 75)
this sentiment is clarified later in the book :
Thinking even if he didn’t need to rest, Lan WangJi definitely needed to, Wei WuXian replied, “Okay. Then let’s find somewhere to rest first.”
Wei WuXian himself was able to live anywhere, an estate if he had money, and under a tree if he had none. But right now, Lan WangJi was with him. He definitely couldn’t imagine Lan WangJi lying on some tree roots, or cramped with him inside a small, dirty room. And so, after some time of walking, the two finally settled on a neat inn at the other side of Yunping City. (Chapter 91)
But now back to why LWJ didn't offer him money. One, probably because they didn't really have that sort of close relationship where he felt he could extend that kind of help. LWJ may be in love with WWX, but outwardly they're still just acquaintances. WWX doesn't mind letting LWJ buy toys for AYuan or pay for their meal because he knows LWJ is well off and it shouldn't be a strain on his finances but he doesn't even think they're friends </3
On his way back up the mountain, Wei WuXian finally realized that he was the one who promised to treat Lan WangJi to a meal, yet in the end, the two of them parted ways in an atmosphere less than relaxed. It went without saying that he forgot to pay for the meal as well.
Wei WuXian thought, Well, Lan Zhan is so rich anyways. It’s no big deal if he paid for me once more. Speaking of it, he still has money on him, doesn’t he? It couldn’t have been all used up after just buying a few children’s toys. If worst comes to worst, I’ll just treat him again next time… How could there be a next time?
Now that he thought about it, for reasons this or that, he and Lan WangJi would end up parting on bad terms every time they met each other. Maybe they really didn’t suit each other as friends.
But, it wasn’t like there’d be any more chances for them to try and be friends with each other in the future. (Chapter 75).
Also, I doubt also LWJ who is a model of proper behavior would go to someone's cave home/farming settlement and suggest their circumstances appear so pathetic they're in need of charity (probably if WWX/the Wens were actually starving he would have done it regardless but not as it were when they were managing). And after all WWX says :
Lan WangJi, “Do you intend on staying like this from now on?”
Wei WuXian, “What’s wrong with staying like this? My place not good enough for you? This mountain here is even bigger than the Cloud Recesses. Our food here is much better too.”
“Wei Ying,” Lan WangJi spoke, “You know what I mean.”
Aside from the sharp contrasts between LWJ and jc's behavior, in regards to AYuan and Wen Ning, the way they viewed the people there etc., the issue isn't that WWX is literally starving in the Burial Mounds and needs money but that the Jiang siblings who had grown up with him not only didn't want to be seen with him, or certainly wouldn't visit the BM, they don't even ask if he's fine... For YanLi it's soup as usual. LWJ asks WWX multiple times how he's managing even though it's a difficult conversation. This echoes WWX's meeting w LWJ in Yunmeng even before the defection:
When he ran into Lan WangJi in the streets, he recalled many things from when he was studying at the Cloud Recesses.
On a whim, he stopped Lan WangJi, wanting to direct their conversation toward those days as well. But, Lan WangJi reminded him that everything was different from how they were back then.
Yet, when he returned to Lotus Pier, to the Jiang siblings, he’d be under the illusion that nothing had changed at all. (Chapter 71)
It's uncomfortable but there's an honesty in it the other interaction lacks. The Jiangs’ visit is nice on the surface but ultimately rings hollow. Outwardly for WWX's benefit but actually for their own, or perhaps more likely for YanLi's own who is the one who probably pushed for it. Don't get me wrong, I think WWX appreciates it, and he's happy to have the chance to see YanLi in her wedding dress, however a big part of his second life is realizing that discomfort he felt when LWJ was prying into his business and questioning him was just someone really caring for him:
Wei WuXian called out, “… Lan Zhan.”
Lan WangJi’s breathing wasn’t as placid as usual, feeling somewhat rushed. It was probably from carrying Wei WuXian while fending off attacks and being on the run for too long.
The tone in which he replied, however, was still the single syllable, as steady as ever, “Mnn.”
After the “mnn”, he added, “I am here.”
Hearing the words, something that Wei WuXian had never felt before sprouted within his heart. It was like sorrow. His chest hurt a bit, but also felt a bit warm.
He could still remember how, back in Jiangling, Lan WangJi came all the way to assist him, yet he didn’t appreciate the kindness at all. With all kinds of disputes, the two of them often parted with disapproval.
But what he hadn’t expected was that when everyone feared him and flattered him, Lan WangJi scolded him right in his face; when everyone spurned him and loathed him, Lan WangJi stood by his side. (Chapter 51)
So since WWX doesn't need financial help, and has already stated his intention to continue cultivating w resentful energy, and things are peaceful for the moment w the other Clans leaving WWX alone, there's nothing else LWJ can do except respect his decision.

Sip the gossip, burn down your throat
When Jingyi, Zizhen and Sizhui joined Jin Ling at the newly opened bar near Jinlintai after the discussion conference, last thing they expect was to find him frowning so deeply that he appeared murderous, fingers gripping his cup hard enough to crack it.
"You okay?" Jingyi asked as he flagged down a waitress for some more wine and snacks. "Did someone mess with you or something? I can pretend I'm drunk and beat them up for you."
"No." And Jin Ling eyes darken even more for a moment, his attention drawn somewhere else. "Shut up and listen."
Everyone focuses in on the conversation happened at the table to their right. Two men, one fat and the other stick thin, draped in so much fake jewelry that their skin was beginning to turn green.
"Heavens, what is this world coming to?" The fat one shouted, downing a large cup of alcohol, "Inviting that disgraceful murderer to the discussion conference as if he hadn't been the one nursing Wen dogs all those years ago! Such scum to share space with us, fine people! Why don't they invite other criminals too?! My brother's been locked up for decades for an accidental killing, he deserves to be heard more than that Yiling Laozu!"
"And he's being so liberal around Hanguang-Jun too!" The skinny one completes, finishing his own wine jar and ordering another, "Such whorish behaviors, even for a cutsleeve! And nobody dares say anything! Not even Zewu-Jun! He lets them do whatever, I bet he'd say nothing if they began fucking in the middle of the conference hall!"
"Disgusting! Who does he think he is, flaunting like he doesn't have our families' blood on his hands?! I should just kill him myself and rid the world of that evil again!" The fat one shouts, hitting his fist against the table loud enough for the dishes to clank together. "And burn down that monster of his too, the Ghost General! My God, a Wen dog allowed among us! Treated the same as us!"
"You're telling me! He acts all modest and innocent, but we all know who he's killed! How does Sect Leader Jin tolerate his existence? His father must be rolling in his grave!"
"His mother too! The Yiling Laozu killed her, yet her son is acting so familial with him! Even Sect Leader Jiang says nothing! What kind of an uncle is that?! Did he not care about his own sister at all?!"
"What could he even do? The Lans coddle the Yiling Laozu like he's their most prized possession! And Sect Leader Jin's just some brat that got put on a throne, what does he know? I bet the Yiling Laozu is manipulating him and waiting to take over the Jin sect himself! Isn't he in the body of one of Jin Guangshan's half sons? It would be the perfect pretext!"
"I don't know how everyone is okay with all this! Didn't we risk put lives storming the Burial Mounds decades ago to kill the Yiling Laozu?! We're all supposed to protect him and love him now?! Ridiculous!"
"You know everyone else thinks the same! But they're too scared of the Lans! They've gained so much power recently, all those new disciples they've adopted out of nowhere... orphans! And they're taught by the Yiling Laozu... how does Lan Qiren tolerate this heresy?!"
"Terrible, terrible world we live in! Imagine, me, a sect leader, getting scolded by some Lan junior! All because I said-"
"It was because you are a prejudiced, small-minded, overly privileged piece of shit that became so insufferable someone had to speak up." Jin Ling loudly intervened, unable to take anymore of the tirade. He walked up to the neighboring table and delighted in the horrified looks of the two men. "And you should be glad it was a Lan and not me because as bratty as you lot think I am, I am equal parts as powerful and I could have had you sent into the dungeons with a look."
"If you insist on being detestable in public," Sizhui started, icy anger in his eyes that looked so much like Wen Ruohan's that the two men nearly got war flashbacks, "make sure the people you speak ill of aren't within earshot. This is a bar, and alcohol is being consumed here. Inhibitions are lowered and emotions run high." And he draws his blade out of its sheath just enough for the glare to shine in the men's eyes. "It would be most unpleasant to ruin this establishment's new furniture with bloodstains."
"And anyway," Zizhen added, smiling dangerously, "not everybody is up for hearing all this vitriol. If this is how you think of your generations' most respectable and most powerful members, you must not be that intelligent or useful to maintain relations with either. My father will be hearing about this, what is the point wasting our sect's resources for the likes of you?"
"I'm nowhere near as elegant as my friends over here, so heed my warning. Talk shit of anyone from the Lan sect, which, mind youm includes Senior Wei and the Ghost General, and I'll have you delivered to the Lan sect's punishment quarters myself. Hanguang-Jun will gladly take care of the rest after, and I'll thoroughly enjoy watching." Jingyi spoke, his voice so low and threatening that it made even his friend's skin prickle with fear. He also took the wine jars off the men's table and sent them a glare. "This is for the trouble. On your tab."
They nodded and quickly scampered off.
The four friends began laughing and high-fiving each other immediately after, sharing alcohol and memories the entire rest of the night.

Its summary is vague (which I suspect is why it isn't better known) but it is a beautiful retelling of canon from LWJ's POV with slight canon divergence. Summary:  Wei Ying has a lot on his plate right now.
It’s finals week -- which isn’t so bad. He’s never had to study much to do well in classes. But that just means that things are that much more tense with Jiang Cheng, who, as far as Wei Ying can tell, only takes study breaks long enough to glare at Wei Ying where he sits on the couch playing video games.
It’s not studies that have Wei Ying stressed out. It’s everything else. It’s the recruitment for the research trial he’s coordinating. It’s jiejie and her impending marriage to His Royal Douchebag Jin Zixuan. It’s the volunteer work at the palliative care facility. It’s Wen Ning’s worsening condition. It’s Wen Qing working herself thin to care for her brother and Wen Yuan. It’s the way Wen Yuan never seems to have enough food.
So, yeah. There’s enough on Wei Ying’s plate already, meaning it’s not entirely welcome when he comes home and finds a man standing in his bedroom. A man in extravagant white robes, a ribbon tied around his forehead, long hair gathered into a topknot, fist clutching a sword at his side, who asks him, “Where am I?”
