By Her Side
Pairing: Bodyguard! Mingi x princess!reader
Genre/trope: fluff, comedy (?), Modern royal au
Word count: 8.5k
Warnings: Age difference, reader is 10 years younger than Mingi, Mingi and reader first met when she was 10, but it was just cute relation back then, reader's hand gets burned. Lmk later if I missed something!
AN: phewww now this might not be for everyone guys. It's a risky trope for some people but because I have parental issues I'm fine with this. But if u still decide to read this after ignoring the warnings and then proceed to hate my work, I'm gonna delete and block you. That being said, enjoy Mingi being an absolute cutie
The Kang family had always been at the center of their nation’s identity, revered for their grace, strength, and modern leadership. Crown Prince Kang Yeosang, the epitome of royal perfection, was frequently seen fulfilling his duties with calm authority. The press adored him, and the people admired his unwavering commitment to the country.
But then, there was her—the mysterious younger sibling, the princess. Her name was only whispered in the media, her face hidden behind the shroud of privacy. She was unlike any princess depicted in the movies or books. She spent her days like an ordinary teenager, far removed from the royal spotlight, in oversized hoodies and sneakers. To her, the palace gates were more like walls keeping her in than protecting her from the outside world.
The princess rarely appeared at public events, and even when she did, the cameras were only granted fleeting glimpses of her, often from the side or with her head bowed. While the media speculated about her personality, the truth was far simpler—she just wanted a normal life.
To the world, she was Princess YN of the Kang family—a figure shrouded in mystery. But to the people who mattered, she was just YN. She attended a regular high school, sat in the same classrooms as everyone else, and blended into the crowd so seamlessly that most of her classmates often forgot about her royal title. She was the girl who shared notes, cracked jokes, and groaned about exams like everyone else.
Her friends treated her like one of their own, never bowing or tiptoeing around her. They teased her when she tripped in gym class and cheered her on during group projects. They knew who she was but never made it a big deal. She loved that.
What wasn’t so normal, however, was the tall figure who accompanied her everywhere—Mingi, her bodyguard. Dressed in unassuming clothes and rarely speaking unless needed, Mingi was her silent protector, always lingering at the edges of her life. Whether she was walking to school, grabbing ice cream after class, or spending hours at the library, Mingi was there.
He wasn’t just a bodyguard, though. To YN, he was more like a guardian, someone who quietly guided and watched over her. While her friends sometimes teased her about having her “personal watchdog,” she never minded. Mingi had been a part of her life for so long that she couldn’t imagine going anywhere without him.
During lunch breaks, while her friends chatted and laughed, Mingi often sat a few tables away, scrolling through his phone but always aware of her. When they walked home from school, she’d casually chatter about her day, and though Mingi’s replies were short, his presence was steady and comforting.
“I bet you think my math teacher hates me,” she said one day, munching on a bag of chips as they walked to her favorite bookstore.
“I don’t think he hates you,” Mingi replied, glancing at her. “But maybe stop arguing about every grade?”
She grinned. “Never. Someone has to keep him on his toes.”
“You’re going to give me gray hair before I’m 30,” he muttered, shaking his head.
“You’d look good with gray hair,” she teased, nudging him.
Moments like these made YN feel like the luckiest girl in the world. She might have been born into royalty, but with Mingi by her side, she got to live a life that felt wonderfully, perfectly normal.
How did they meet? Well the meeting was a bit chaotic.
It had been a quiet spring afternoon when ten-year-old YN first met Mingi. The palace halls were dappled with sunlight, and the faint hum of gardeners at work outside filled the air. YN, dressed in her favorite pale blue dress, sat in the corner of the grand library, building a lopsided tower of books. She was humming to herself when a knock interrupted her focus.
“YN,” the King’s voice came from the doorway, deep and steady as always, “I want you to meet someone.”
She turned, pushing her hair out of her face, and blinked at the tall figure standing beside her father. He was lanky but strong, with wide shoulders and a quiet confidence that seemed far too mature for someone who looked only a decade older than her. His black hair was neatly combed, and he looked stiff in his uniform—nervous, even.
“This is Song Mingi,” the King continued, his tone softer now. “He’s going to be your bodyguard from today onward.”
“Bodyguard?” YN tilted her head, confusion written all over her face. “Why do I need a bodyguard?”
The King smiled. “Because you’re very special, YN. And special people need someone to look after them.”
Mingi bowed deeply, his voice low but clear as he spoke for the first time. “It’s an honor to serve you, Your Highness.”
YN frowned, her gaze darting between her father and the stranger. “So… what does he do? Stand around and look boring?”
Her father chuckled, patting her head gently. “He’ll be here to keep you safe and help you with anything you need.” With that, the King left, leaving YN alone with the unfamiliar young man.
For the first few days, YN wasn’t quite sure what to make of Mingi. He followed her everywhere, always a step behind, silent and watchful. Whether she was in her room playing with her dolls, exploring the gardens, or eating her meals, he was there.
“Do you ever talk?” she asked him one day, spinning around to face him as he stood by the door to her room.
“If you want me to,” he replied simply, his voice calm.
“What’s the point of you being here if you’re just going to be boring?” she huffed, crossing her arms.
But things began to change after a few days. It started with little things—how Mingi always made sure her favorite snacks were on hand during study time, how he carried her books without being asked, or how he gently guided her away from muddy puddles in the garden without a word. When she tripped during a game of tag with her friends, Mingi was the first to rush to her side, kneeling to check her scraped knee.
“You’re not hurt badly,” he said, his voice soft but steady. “But let’s get this cleaned up.”
From that moment, something shifted. YN began to trust him. Soon, she found herself clinging to him more and more. She’d tug at his sleeve whenever she wanted something, ask him endless questions about his life, and insist he sit with her during meals, even if he tried to politely decline.
“Mingi, do you like chocolate or vanilla?” she’d ask, holding up two bowls of ice cream.
“Vanilla, I guess,” he’d reply, only for her to shove the bowl of chocolate into his hands with a grin. “Well, I like chocolate, so you’re eating this one.”
It wasn’t long before Mingi became the center of her little world. To her, he wasn’t just a bodyguard—he was a constant, someone who made her feel safe in a way she didn’t even realize she needed. She didn’t care about the circumstances that brought him to the palace, or that he was the son of a noble family that had fallen from grace. To her, he was simply Mingi, her guardian, her protector, and the one person she trusted with everything.
By the end of the first month, she was practically glued to his side. Wherever YN went, Mingi wasn’t far behind—and she made sure of it.
The palace soon became accustomed to the sight of YN clinging to Mingi like he was a second skin. Wherever she went, her tiny hands were either clutching his sleeve, gripping his uniform jacket, or reaching up to be carried. And Mingi, with his endless patience, always obliged her, no matter how exhausting her energy seemed to be.
One day, while attending a charity event with her parents, YN grew bored of the endless formalities. The long speeches and handshakes weren’t exactly ten-year-old-friendly. Spotting Mingi standing a short distance away, she made her way over to him, ignoring her mother’s disapproving glance.
“Mingi,” she whined softly, tugging at his sleeve. “I’m tired.”
He crouched down, his expression softening. Want me to take you somewhere quieter?”
“Carry me,” she demanded, lifting her arms up dramatically.
Without hesitation, he scooped her up, balancing her effortlessly on his hip. She snuggled into his chest, resting her head on his shoulder. The cameras caught the moment almost instantly, flashes illuminating the hall as reporters whispered to each other. The next day, headlines were plastered across every paper: “Princess YN Finds Her Comfort in Her Shadow, Bodyguard Mingi!”
It didn’t stop there. The media couldn’t get enough of their dynamic. During a public library visit, YN decided to curl up in Mingi’s lap while reading one of her favorite picture books. It was an innocent gesture—she had always leaned on him as a source of comfort—but the sight of the princess slouched against the stoic bodyguard with her book upside down made the perfect photograph.
“Do you think you could sit any straighter?” Mingi teased in a low whisper, glancing down at her as she adjusted herself against him.
“Nope. I’m comfy,” she mumbled without looking up.
The royal PR team later joked that the image single-handedly made the entire nation collectively “awww.”
Another instance came during a school event. YN, participating in a relay race, tripped over her shoelaces midway. She wasn’t hurt, but her face scrunched up in frustration as the other kids raced ahead of her. Before anyone could step in, Mingi walked straight onto the track, kneeling beside her.
“You okay, Princess?” he asked gently.
“No!” she pouted. “I was winning!”
“Want me to carry you to the finish line?” he joked.
Her eyes lit up instantly. “Yes!”
Despite the protests of her teacher, Mingi picked her up, her arms looping tightly around his neck, and jogged to the finish line. The other kids laughed and cheered, and YN wore a smug grin for the rest of the day. The moment was, of course, caught on video and quickly went viral.
In quieter moments, their bond shone just as brightly. During long car rides to royal functions, YN would inevitably fall asleep against Mingi’s shoulder, her little body slouching into his side. No matter how cramped or awkward the position, Mingi never moved until she woke up, even if his arm went numb.
“Doesn’t she get heavy?” one of the royal aides once asked him, watching as Mingi carried a dozing YN into the palace after a long day.
“Not at all,” he replied simply, adjusting her slightly so she’d be more comfortable.
Mingi didn’t care about the headlines or the public perception. To him, YN wasn’t just his responsibility—she was his charge, his little princess. And to YN, Mingi wasn’t just her bodyguard. He was her rock, her protector, and the one person who never let go.
As YN grew older, her dynamic with Mingi evolved, but in many ways, it stayed the same. He was no longer the one carrying her around or fetching things for her—she had plenty of palace staff to do that—but Mingi remained her constant, her anchor, and most importantly, her best friend.
“Hey, Mingi,” she said one day, sprawled across the palace couch, flipping through her phone. “Can you believe someone asked me to bring them a cup of water today? Me. A princess. I mean, can you imagine?”
Mingi, who was sitting nearby with a book in hand, glanced at her, unimpressed. “You could’ve just gotten it for them.”
“I don’t think so.” She raised an eyebrow, smirking. “That’s what staff is for.”
He shook his head, hiding a small smile. “You’re impossible.”
“But you like me this way,” she quipped, tossing a cushion at him.
Mingi might have been her bodyguard, but to her, he was the one person in the palace who never treated her like royalty. He didn’t bow, didn’t rush to fulfill her every whim. And she liked that. She didn’t need to ask him for anything—he already gave her his loyalty, his protection, and his steady presence.
She didn’t hesitate to make the distinction clear to others, though. If anyone dared to suggest Mingi do something outside of his role, she was quick to shut it down.
“Mingi isn’t staff,” she’d say firmly. “He’s my friend. Get someone else to do it.”
Her other staff quickly learned that Mingi held a special place in her life, and they respected it. Meanwhile, YN never held back from treating him like a confidant. She’d drag him to her favorite places, tell him all her secrets, and share everything from her late-night worries to her wildest dreams.
“You know, sometimes I think you’re the only person who actually knows me,” she told him one evening as they sat in the palace garden.
“That’s because you talk my ear off,” Mingi teased, though his voice was warm.
“Well, someone has to listen,” she shot back with a grin, leaning her head against his shoulder.
And though Mingi never said it, he valued their friendship just as much. To him, she wasn’t just a princess—she was YN, his closest friend, the one person who treated him like family in a world that often felt far too formal.
It was a crisp winter evening, the kind where the cold seemed to seep into your bones despite the layers of warm clothing. The royal family stood on the grand balcony of the palace, gazing down at the crowd gathered for the annual winter gala. A sea of people, elegantly dressed in thick coats and scarves, murmured excitedly below, admiring the lights twinkling across the square.
YN stood near the railing, her eyes wandering over the scene, but she wasn’t paying much attention to the event itself. Instead, she was focused on the warm presence beside her. Mingi stood just behind her, always watchful, his dark coat blending with the night as he ensured she remained comfortable despite the chill in the air.
Every few moments, Mingi would glance down at YN, noting how her scarf had slipped a little, exposing her neck to the cold. Without a word, he gently adjusted it, making sure it was wrapped securely around her. YN barely noticed—she was used to it by now. Mingi’s careful attention to her every need had become second nature.
“YN,” Mingi’s voice cut through the soft hum of the crowd, “your scarf came loose again.”
YN sighed, her breath visible in the cold air, and shifted closer to him, her cheek grazing his coat as she stood slightly slouched against his side. She had grown used to his hovering, his need to ensure she was always warm and taken care of. It wasn’t annoying to her—it felt like normal.
“I’m fine,” she mumbled, her voice muffled by the cold air, but she made no move to pull away from him. She liked the way Mingi was always there, always making sure she was safe and comfortable.
Mingi didn’t argue. He simply adjusted the scarf one more time, then slipped a small heat pack into her hands, holding one against her ear, knowing how much she hated the cold seeping into her sensitive skin. He didn’t even ask if she was okay. He just knew.
YN clutched the heat pack with both hands, pressing it against her ear, and looked up at him, offering a small, thankful smile. There was no need for words—Mingi's actions spoke for him. She wasn’t bothered by the constant attention, the way he fussed over her in the cold. To YN, it was just how things had always been, and she couldn’t imagine a winter night without Mingi there, making sure she was taken care of.
She let out a soft breath and leaned against his side, her body instinctively seeking the warmth he always provided. Mingi didn’t pull away. In fact, he wrapped his arm around her, pulling her a little closer to shield her from the wind.
To the royal family, the people on the balcony, and the watching crowd, this was simply the expected sight—the princess, calm and composed, standing with her ever-vigilant bodyguard. But to YN, this was the norm. It wasn’t a chore or anything unusual. It was Mingi. Her best friend. Her protector. And for the first time, with the wind biting at her skin, she leaned into him even more, grateful for the comfort that only he could give.
The next morning, as YN sat in the grand dining room with her family, sipping on her warm tea, the morning papers were spread across the table. She glanced lazily at the headlines, her fingers tracing the rim of her cup absentmindedly. As usual, there was a flurry of royal gossip, but one headline caught her eye.
"Princess YN and Bodyguard Mingi: A Winter Night of Comfort and Protection"
She frowned, her brow furrowing as she skimmed through the article. Pictures of her and Mingi on the balcony the night before had been plastered all over the page—images of her clinging to his side, the heat packs in her hands, and Mingi adjusting her scarf. It was clear the media had turned their attention to their every move, almost as if they were trying to capture some deeper meaning behind their closeness.
“Why are they so obsessed with me?” YN asked, looking up at Mingi, who was quietly standing beside her, ever-watchful.
Mingi glanced at the newspaper but said nothing, instead focusing on adjusting the setting of her teacup. He knew what was coming.
“Well?” she pressed, looking up at him with wide, curious eyes. "I mean, it’s not like I did anything special. It’s just cold, and you were just… looking out for me.”
Mingi smiled softly, his expression gentle as he gave her a small nod. “You’re not just anyone, YN.”
She blinked, still not fully understanding. “But why? I’m just me.”
“That’s just it,” he said, kneeling beside her so they were eye-level. “You are a princess. People look up to you. They admire you for who you are, for everything you represent.”
YN’s brows furrowed even deeper, and she leaned back in her chair, trying to wrap her head around his words. She was so used to the quiet normalcy of her life that she had never truly realized how the world saw her.
She mumbled softly, tracing a line in the condensation on her teacup. “I don’t want all this attention. It feels so… weird.”
Mingi chuckled softly, his tone warm but reassuring. “It can be a lot, yes. But that’s just the way it is when you’re born into the royal family. You’re not just living for yourself. Your actions, your presence, it matters to people. They care about you because they see you as someone who represents the country, its hopes, its dreams.”
YN blinked, trying to absorb his explanation. “So it’s not because I’m cute or something?” she asked, her lips curling into a small, playful smile.
Mingi chuckled, shaking his head. “Of course, you’re cute. But it’s more than that. You’re the princess. The future of this kingdom.”
YN paused, staring down at her tea. She didn’t fully understand all of it, but there was something about the way Mingi explained it that made her feel both strange and important.
“You always say things that sound so serious,” she muttered, not quite grasping the weight of what he meant.
Mingi smiled at her, knowing how young and innocent her thoughts still were despite her royal title. “You don’t have to understand everything now. Just know that you’re more than you think you are. And that’s why people are watching.”
YN let out a sigh, her head drooping as she thought about it. “I guess I’ll have to get used to it, huh?”
Mingi nodded, giving her a light pat on the back. “You’ll get the hang of it.”
And even though she didn’t fully grasp the complexities of her status, YN knew that one thing would never change: Mingi would always be there by her side, keeping things normal, keeping things grounded—just like a friend.
A few days after the whole winter gala incident, YN and Mingi found themselves attending a royal charity dinner, an event full of formalities and stiff faces. YN, however, wasn’t one to enjoy the seriousness of these events. Her mind often wandered, especially when the speeches began. That evening, as she sat next to Mingi, her attention started to drift.
At first, she tried to occupy herself with her phone under the table, but her restless fingers quickly grew bored. She glanced over at Mingi, who was dutifully standing beside her, observing the guests with his usual focused expression.
“Hey, Mingi,” she whispered, poking him lightly in the ribs. “Do you think the soup is too hot? Or do you think they put something weird in it?”
Mingi glanced at her, raising an eyebrow. “What do you mean by ‘weird’?”
“Like… I don’t know,” she said, wrinkling her nose. “What if they secretly put... chocolate in it?”
Mingi chuckled, clearly amused by the absurdity of her thoughts. “YN, don’t be silly. Chocolate in soup is—”
But before he could finish, YN's mischievous grin appeared. She leaned over toward him and whispered in a stage whisper, “What if we just sneak a taste? You know, just to see if it’s chocolate or not.”
Mingi looked at her in disbelief. “YN—no, we’re not sneaking food under the table.”
But that was exactly what she was about to do. Without further hesitation, YN grabbed her spoon from the table and casually dipped it into the bowl of soup, all while trying to act as if she were merely adjusting it. The only problem was, she hadn’t quite thought it through. As she tried to raise the spoon to her lips, she accidentally splashed some of the soup onto her dress.
“Oops,” she muttered, trying to cover the small spill by quickly wiping it with her napkin.
Mingi, ever the protector, quickly leaned in to help, but the moment he did, he accidentally knocked his own drink—an expensive glass of red wine—right onto YN’s lap.
“Ah! Mingi!” she yelped, wide-eyed. The wine spread across her dress in an instant.
The room went silent for a moment, and YN couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “Oh my god, what did you do? You just exploded my lap with wine!”
Mingi looked horrified, his face flushed. “I’m so sorry, Princess, I didn’t—”
“Don’t worry,” she interrupted, still giggling. “At least the wine looks kind of fancy, right?”
Mingi quickly grabbed some napkins and tried to dab away the mess, but YN was now laughing so hard that she could hardly keep her composure.
“What’s going on over there?” someone whispered nearby.
“Oh, nothing,” YN said between fits of laughter. “Just Mingi trying to drown me in wine and soup.”
Mingi shot her an exasperated look, but even he couldn’t hold back a smile. “You’re impossible.”
The rest of the evening went on with everyone around them trying hard not to giggle at the mess they had unintentionally made. And though YN’s dress was ruined, it was just another one of those funny moments that felt normal between the two of them—a princess and her overprotective bodyguard, who never seemed to do anything quite by the book.
One afternoon, as YN lounged lazily in the palace, scrolling through her phone, she noticed Mingi, who had just returned from his usual workout. The sight of him, all flushed from his session and wiping sweat from his forehead, made her pause mid-scroll.
Her mind, never short of strange ideas, suddenly lit up with a random, ridiculous thought.
What if... she mused, a mischievous glint appearing in her eyes. What if I swing from his biceps?
Without a second thought, she stood up and walked casually toward the workout area where Mingi was cooling down with some stretches. His attention was focused entirely on his breathing, unaware that YN was about to disrupt his hard-earned relaxation.
“Mingi,” she said in the sweetest tone she could muster, stepping into his personal space, “I’ve been thinking.”
Mingi, still slightly out of breath, raised an eyebrow, giving her a suspicious look. “Uh-oh. That’s never good.”
“No, no,” she said, holding up her hands in mock innocence. “It’s a good thought. A very good one.”
He groaned. “What are you plotting now, YN?”
She grinned widely, moving closer and without warning, gently tugging on his arm. “I want to swing from your biceps.”
There was a long pause, and Mingi blinked in disbelief. “What?”
“You heard me,” YN said with a shrug, grinning even more mischievously.
“Do you want me to install a swing in the garden for you?” Mingi asked hesitantly.
“No! I’ve seen you working out so hard, and I’m curious. You look strong enough. Come on, just once. Let me swing from your biceps.”
Mingi, still processing what she said, stared at her for a moment. Then, without much else to do, he rolled his eyes and sighed, but there was a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. “You know, this is the weirdest request you’ve ever made.”
“I know, right?” YN said, bouncing on her feet in excitement. “But come on, you owe me for making me stay in all these boring royal events.”
Mingi could only shake his head in disbelief, giving in because he knew YN was never going to let it go. “Fine, fine. But if you hurt yourself, I’m not responsible.”
“Deal!” she said, her voice full of joy.
With one smooth motion, she jumped toward him, wrapping her arms around his thick bicep. He flexed slightly, just enough to lift her off the ground, and YN squealed in delight as she swung from his arm like a monkey.
“See? This is fun!” she exclaimed, giggling wildly.
Mingi stood there, still holding her with a mixture of amusement and disbelief. “You are ridiculous.”
“I know,” YN grinned, her legs swinging back and forth. “But it’s a good kind of ridiculous, don’t you think?”
“You’re lucky I work out so much,” Mingi muttered, though there was affection in his voice.
“Thank you!” she laughed, then swung once more before jumping down. “This was exactly what I needed.”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “You’re impossible.”
But YN didn’t mind. She was already back to lounging, her weird request fulfilled. Mingi might have had his personal workout time invaded, but in that moment, he couldn’t help but smile at how his friendship with YN always kept things unpredictable—and oddly fun.
It was a sunny afternoon, and YN was feeling particularly adventurous—or rather, particularly bored. Mingi had been called to attend a brief meeting with the palace security staff, leaving her to her own devices. Normally, this wouldn’t be an issue, but YN being YN, boredom wasn’t something she handled gracefully.
She decided to take matters into her own hands.
“I don’t need Mingi for everything,” she muttered under her breath, determined to prove that she could function just fine on her own. “How hard can it be to make a cup of tea or something?”
She strolled into the palace kitchen, glancing around at the unfamiliar appliances and shiny surfaces. She had seen Mingi brew tea for her countless times before—it looked easy enough. She grabbed a kettle, filled it with water, and placed it on the stove. With a smug grin, she flicked the stove on and waited.
Moments later, the kettle started whistling, and YN panicked. “Oh no, it’s screaming at me!” she yelled, fumbling with the knobs. Instead of turning the stove off, she accidentally turned it higher. The whistle got louder, and in her panic, she grabbed the kettle with her bare hands.
“HOT! HOT! HOT!” she shrieked, flailing her hands and dropping the kettle back onto the stove with a loud clang.
Hearing the commotion, several staff members rushed into the kitchen, only to find the princess standing there, her cheeks flushed, holding her now slightly red hands.
“Your Highness, are you alright?” one of them asked, clearly concerned.
“I’m fine,” YN grumbled, glaring at the offending kettle. “This thing just hates me.”
Before the staff could offer assistance, the door to the kitchen burst open, and in strode Mingi, looking mildly out of breath and thoroughly unimpressed.
“What is going on here?” he asked, his voice low and calm, but his eyes scanning her for injuries.
YN froze, caught red-handed—literally. “Nothing,” she said quickly, hiding her hands behind her back.
Mingi crossed his arms, raising an eyebrow. “Nothing? Because it doesn’t sound like nothing. It sounds like someone decided to play chef without supervision.”
“I was just trying to make tea,” she muttered, pouting. “How hard can it be? You do it all the time.”
Mingi sighed, stepping closer and gently pulling her hands into view. He inspected her reddened palms, his frown deepening. “You burned yourself.”
“It’s just a tiny burn,” she protested.
Without a word, Mingi grabbed a small first-aid kit from the counter, pulled her to a nearby chair, and sat her down. As he carefully applied some ointment to her hands, YN watched him silently, feeling both guilty and oddly comforted.
“You’re not allowed in the kitchen alone anymore,” Mingi said firmly, wrapping a bandage around her hand.
“But I was just trying to—”
“YN,” he interrupted, looking her straight in the eye. “You are truly hopeless without me.”
She opened her mouth to argue but then closed it again, realizing he wasn’t wrong. “Fine,” she muttered, leaning her head on his shoulder dramatically. “I guess I do need you for everything.”
Mingi chuckled softly, his expression softening. “That’s what I’m here for.”
From then on, YN stayed far away from the kitchen—unless Mingi was there to supervise. And though she occasionally teased him for being overprotective, deep down, she knew she wouldn’t have it any other way.
It was a chilly, overcast morning, the kind where the sky hung low and gray, promising rain at any moment. YN sat with her group of friends in the school common area, bundled up in her scarf and coat. The conversation drifted from homework to weekend plans, and finally, as it often did, to crushes and dream weddings.
“I think I’d want someone who’s athletic,” one friend said, her cheeks pink as she laughed.
“Yeah, but he also has to be super smart,” another added.
“What about you, YN?” one of them asked, leaning in with a teasing grin. “You never talk about this stuff. Who’s your dream guy?”
YN blinked, caught off guard by the question. Normally, she’d deflect with a joke or tease them back, but today, she hesitated.
Her friends stared at her expectantly, but instead of conjuring up a romantic fantasy, her mind went somewhere else entirely—to Mingi.
She thought of how he always stood by her, carrying her heavy school bags without complaint. How he remembered to pack her favorite snacks on long days and made sure she had an umbrella when the sky threatened rain, just like today. How his steady, quiet presence had been the one constant in her life for as long as she could remember.
But then, like a sudden gust of wind cutting through the chill, another thought hit her: One day, I’ll have to leave him behind.
Her stomach twisted. She wasn’t like her friends, free to imagine marrying their crushes or choosing their own futures. She was a princess, bound by duty. One day, she’d be expected to marry someone suitable—a prince or nobleman chosen by her family, someone who fit the royal image. And Mingi… Mingi would remain as he was, her protector, her shadow. But never more.
The thought felt like a weight pressing down on her chest, and she didn’t know why it hurt so much.
“YN? Hellooo?” her friend waved a hand in front of her face, snapping her out of her daze.
“Huh? Oh, sorry,” YN mumbled, forcing a small smile. “I was just… thinking.”
Her friends exchanged amused looks, laughing lightly. “Thinking about your crush, huh?” one teased.
“Something like that,” YN muttered, though her heart wasn’t in it. She laughed along with them, but the unease in her chest lingered for the rest of the day.
The school bell rang, signaling the end of the day, and YN packed her things slowly, her thoughts still clouded from the earlier conversation with her friends. The idea of leaving Mingi someday had weighed heavily on her throughout the day, and she couldn’t shake it.
As she exited the school building, there he was, as always—Mingi. He leaned casually against the sleek black car, dressed in his usual suit, an umbrella in hand just in case it rained again. His watchful eyes immediately softened when they met hers, and he straightened up, opening the car door for her.
“Rough day?” he asked, noticing the faint frown on her face as she approached.
YN didn’t respond immediately. Instead, she stood there for a moment, looking at him, her thoughts racing. She thought about how he was always there, waiting for her, protecting her, ensuring she never had to worry about anything. And the idea of losing that—of losing him—was unbearable.
“Mingi,” she said suddenly, her voice firm but her eyes filled with emotion.
He blinked, surprised by her tone. “Yes?”
“I’ve decided,” she said, stepping closer to him, her hands clutching the straps of her backpack. “I’m not leaving you. Ever.”
Mingi tilted his head, confused by her sudden declaration. “What are you talking about?”
“I mean it,” she continued, her words tumbling out impulsively. “If I have to marry someone, it’ll be you.”
There was a brief, stunned silence as Mingi processed her words. His eyes widened slightly, and for the first time in a long while, he looked genuinely flustered.
“YN,” he started, his voice gentle but firm, “you can’t just—”
“I’m serious!” she interrupted, her cheeks flushing but her gaze unwavering. “Why should I marry some random prince or noble when you’re the one who’s always been there for me? You’re the one who takes care of me, who knows me better than anyone else. Who else would I want by my side?”
Mingi exhaled, rubbing the back of his neck as he tried to find the right words. He crouched slightly so they were at eye level, his expression softening.
“YN,” he said carefully, “I’ve been by your side since you were a kid. My job is to protect you and make sure you’re safe. That’s what I’m here for. But marrying me?” He shook his head lightly, a small smile tugging at his lips. “That’s not how it works.”
“But why not?” she pressed, her voice quieter now but still determined. “I don’t care about what’s ‘supposed’ to happen. I just… I don’t want to lose you, Mingi.”
His expression softened even more, and he placed a hand gently on her shoulder. “You’re not going to lose me,” he said firmly. “No matter what happens, I’ll always be here. That’s a promise, remember?”
YN bit her lip, her shoulders relaxing slightly at his reassurance. “You better mean it,” she muttered, her cheeks still pink.
“I do,” he said with a quiet chuckle, straightening up and opening the car door again. “Now, come on. Let’s get you home before you decide to propose to me in front of the whole school.”
She let out a small laugh, climbing into the car, her heart feeling a little lighter. As they drove away, YN glanced at Mingi through the rearview mirror, her mind still replaying their conversation.
That evening, after they arrived back at the palace, YN couldn’t keep the thoughts swirling in her head any longer. As soon as dinner was over, she excused herself and marched straight to her father’s study.
The king was sitting at his large oak desk, reading through a stack of documents when she entered without knocking—a habit he often teased her about but secretly adored. Her mother, the queen, was seated on the nearby couch, sipping tea as she reviewed her own set of papers. Both of them looked up in surprise when YN stood before them, her face set with determination.
“Father, Mother,” she started, her voice steady despite the nerves fluttering in her chest, “I need to talk to you about something important.”
The king raised an eyebrow, setting down his pen. “What is it, my dear? You look serious.”
“I’ve been thinking about the future,” she said, clasping her hands together. “About how one day, I’ll have to marry someone. But I don’t want to marry some stranger or someone chosen just because of their title. I want… I want Mingi.”
The room went silent, the words hanging heavy in the air.
The queen blinked, clearly taken aback. “Mingi? As in your bodyguard?”
YN nodded firmly. “Yes. He’s been there for me my whole life. He’s the one who truly knows me, who understands me. I don’t see why I have to marry someone else just because it’s tradition. It’s not fair.”
The king leaned back in his chair, his expression thoughtful but hesitant. “YN, you know we’ve always respected your opinions and wishes. But this… This isn’t something we can decide so easily. Mingi is—”
“—not a royal,” the queen finished gently, though her tone carried a note of concern.
“I don’t care about that!” YN interrupted, her voice rising slightly. “Why does it matter? Times have changed, haven’t they? People don’t care about traditions as much as they used to. They care about love and happiness. And I know what I want.”
The king exchanged a glance with the queen, both of them clearly unsure how to respond.
It was then that the door opened, and Yeosang stepped in, his brows furrowed as he looked between his parents and YN. “What’s going on?” he asked, sensing the tension in the room.
“She wants to marry Mingi,” the queen explained, her voice laced with a mix of disbelief and worry.
Yeosang’s eyebrows shot up, and then, much to everyone’s surprise, he smiled slightly. “Well, why not?”
“Yeosang!” the queen said, shocked by his response.
“Mother, Father,” Yeosang said calmly, stepping closer, “it’s not the old days anymore. Things are different now. People won’t revolt just because the princess marries someone who isn’t royal. In fact, they’ll probably love it. You’ve seen how the media adores her bond with Mingi. They’d see it as proof that she’s grounded, that she cares about real connections instead of outdated customs.”
The king frowned, clearly conflicted. “It’s not just about the public, Yeosang. It’s about the responsibility, the image, the—”
“The happiness of your daughter,” Yeosang interrupted gently but firmly. “Shouldn’t that come first?”
YN looked at her brother, her eyes wide with gratitude. She hadn’t expected him to stand up for her so strongly, and it gave her a surge of hope.
The queen sighed, looking at her husband. “He’s not wrong, you know. But… it’s still hard to let go of traditions we’ve followed for so long.”
The king rubbed his temples, clearly torn. After a long pause, he looked at YN. “This isn’t a decision we can make overnight. But… if this is truly what you want, we’ll consider it. Just give us some time.”
It wasn’t a definitive yes, but it wasn’t a no either. YN’s heart swelled with a mix of relief and hope.
“Thank you,” she said softly, bowing slightly before leaving the room.
As YN left the study, her thoughts still buzzing with hope and relief, she heard familiar footsteps behind her. She turned to see Yeosang following her down the grand hallway, his hands casually tucked into his pockets.
“What?” she asked, stopping in her tracks and raising an eyebrow at him.
Yeosang sighed, motioning for her to keep walking as he fell into step beside her. “I need to talk to you,” he said, his tone calm but firm.
She rolled her eyes. “If you’re going to tell me I’m being ridiculous, don’t bother. You already supported me in front of Mother and Father.”
“I did,” Yeosang agreed, glancing at her. “But only because I’m tired of those outdated customs, too. And because, if anyone deserves you, it’s Mingi. He’s practically perfect for you.”
YN blinked in surprise at his honesty, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Really? You think so?”
“Yes, I do,” he admitted with a shrug. “He’s loyal, reliable, and has been by your side for years. I know he’d do anything to keep you safe and happy. That’s the kind of person you need in your life.”
Her smile grew, but before she could thank him, he stopped walking and turned to face her, his expression more serious now.
“But, YN,” he said firmly, “you’re still too young to make decisions like this.”
Her smile faltered. “What do you mean? I know what I want.”
“You think you do,” he replied, his tone gentle but unyielding. “But you’re only a teenager. Marriage isn’t just about liking someone or thinking they’re a good person. It’s a huge commitment, and it comes with responsibilities you can’t even imagine right now.”
“I’m not saying I want to marry him tomorrow,” she argued, crossing her arms. “I’m just saying that when the time comes, it should be my choice. And I chose Mingi.”
Yeosang sighed, rubbing the back of his neck. “Look, I get it. You’ve grown up with him. He’s been like your rock, your anchor. It makes sense that you’d feel this way. But you need to take a step back and really think about what you want in life—not just right now, but years from now.”
YN frowned, her arms dropping to her sides. “You don’t think I’m serious?”
“I think you’re serious,” he said honestly. “And I think your feelings are valid. But feelings change, YN. And you’ve got so much time ahead of you to figure out what you really want. All I’m saying is, don’t rush into something just because it feels right now.”
She looked down at the floor, his words sinking in. As much as she hated to admit it, Yeosang had a point. She was still young, and the future felt like a vast, uncharted sea.
“I just… I don’t want to lose him,” she said softly, her voice barely above a whisper.
“You won’t,” Yeosang reassured her, placing a hand on her shoulder. “Mingi’s not going anywhere. You’ve got time, YN. Don’t let fear make you rush into a decision. Trust that the right moment will come when it’s meant to.”
She nodded slowly, her gaze still fixed on the floor. “Thanks, Yeosang. I… I’ll think about what you said.”
He smiled faintly, giving her shoulder a gentle squeeze. “That’s all I ask. Now, go get some rest. You’ve caused enough chaos for one day.”
She laughed lightly, the weight on her chest lifting just a little. As she walked away, she couldn’t help but feel grateful for her brother’s honesty and support. Even if she didn’t have all the answers yet, she knew she had time—and the people who cared about her to guide her along the way.
The sound of tennis balls being hit back and forth echoed through the royal court the next morning. Yeosang and Mingi were engaged in a competitive match, their banter as sharp as their serves. Despite the casual atmosphere, Mingi could sense there was something on Yeosang’s mind.
“Nice shot,” Yeosang said as Mingi delivered a powerful forehand that he barely managed to return.
“You’re getting slow, Yeosang,” Mingi teased, smirking as he prepared for the next serve.
“Not slow,” Yeosang retorted, adjusting his stance. “Just distracted.”
Mingi raised an eyebrow but said nothing, focusing on his serve. He sent the ball flying across the court, and Yeosang returned it with surprising force. The rally continued for a while before Yeosang finally missed, and Mingi stepped forward, spinning his racket casually.
“All right,” Mingi said, tilting his head. “What’s on your mind?”
Yeosang sighed, walking to the side to grab his water bottle. “It’s YN,” he said simply.
Mingi tensed slightly but kept his expression neutral. “What about her?”
Yeosang took a sip of water, then leaned against the net, looking directly at his friend. “She told me last night that she doesn’t want to marry anyone but you.”
Mingi froze for a split second before letting out a quiet sigh. “I know,” he admitted, rubbing the back of his neck. “She told me the same thing yesterday.”
Yeosang raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued. “And?”
“And… I told her that’s not how it works,” Mingi said firmly, his voice calm but resolute. “She’s still young. She doesn’t fully understand what she’s saying. It’s just… attachment. She’s known me her whole life, so she thinks I’m the answer to everything.”
Yeosang studied him for a moment, his expression unreadable. “You’re probably right,” he said eventually, setting his bottle down. “But that doesn’t change the fact that she’s serious about how she feels.”
Mingi sighed again, sitting on the bench and resting his elbows on his knees. “I know. And that’s what worries me. I don’t want her to make decisions she might regret later. She’s a princess, Yeosang. Her life is already so complicated, and she deserves better than—”
“Don’t finish that sentence,” Yeosang interrupted, walking over to stand in front of him. “If you’re about to say she deserves better than you, don’t. Because it’s not true.”
Mingi blinked, clearly taken aback. “Yeosang, I’m just her bodyguard. You really think—”
“I think you’re one of the best people I’ve ever met,” Yeosang said firmly, crossing his arms. “And I think my sister deserves someone who will treat her with the care and respect you’ve shown her every single day of her life. Do I think she’s too young to be thinking about marriage? Yes. But do I think you’re a bad choice? Absolutely not.”
Mingi stared at him, stunned into silence.
Yeosang smirked, amused by his friend’s rare speechlessness. “Honestly, I expected you to freak out more when I brought this up. But it seems like you’ve already thought this through.”
“I have,” Mingi admitted quietly. “I’ve been thinking about it ever since she first mentioned it. I just… I don’t want to cross any lines. My job is to protect her, not—”
“Not fall in love with her?” Yeosang finished, his tone teasing but not unkind.
Mingi’s eyes widened slightly, and he looked away, unsure how to respond.
Yeosang chuckled, clapping him on the shoulder. “Relax, Mingi. I’m not here to tell you to stay away from her. If anything, I’m telling you the opposite. Just… don’t rush anything. Let her grow up, figure things out for herself. If this is meant to be, it’ll happen in time.”
Mingi looked up at him, his expression softening. “You really mean that?”
“I do,” Yeosang said with a small smile. “You’re my friend, Mingi. And more importantly, you’re someone I trust. I know you’ll do what’s best for her.”
Mingi nodded, his chest feeling both lighter and heavier at the same time. “Thanks, Yeosang.”
“Don’t thank me yet,” Yeosang said with a smirk, grabbing his racket. “Now, let’s finish this game. I’m not letting you win just because we had a heartfelt moment.”
Mingi laughed, standing up and grabbing his racket. “We’ll see about that.”
As they returned to the court, Mingi couldn’t help but feel a renewed sense of responsibility. Whatever the future held, he would make sure YN was happy—whether that meant staying by her side as her bodyguard or something more. For now, he’d take it one day at a time.
Months passed, and YN’s relentless determination, along with Yeosang’s support, slowly melted her parents’ hesitation. It wasn’t an easy road, but the Kang family eventually came to terms with the idea. The modern world was changing, and so were the rules of royalty. What mattered most was YN’s happiness, and it was clear that her bond with Mingi was unbreakable.
One crisp autumn morning, YN was called into the royal study. Her parents were there, seated at the same desk where she had once pleaded her case. Yeosang stood beside them, a small smile tugging at his lips.
“We’ve discussed it,” the king began, his tone gentle but formal. “And we’ve decided that if this is truly what you want, YN, we will support your choice.”
For a moment, she just stared at them, her mind struggling to process the words. Then, as the realization hit her, her face lit up with pure, uncontainable joy. “Really?” she exclaimed, her voice trembling with excitement.
The queen smiled softly. “Yes, really. We only want you to be happy.”
Before they could say anything else, YN bolted out of the room, her heart racing as she ran through the palace halls. She knew exactly where to find Mingi—in the training grounds, where he often started his mornings.
As she burst into the training yard, Mingi was mid-swing, sparring with another guard. He paused when he saw her, his brow furrowing in concern. “Princess? What’s wrong?”
She didn’t answer right away, instead running straight to him and grabbing his hands. Her grin was so wide it almost hurt, and her eyes sparkled with excitement. “They said yes!” she blurted out.
Mingi blinked, caught off guard. “What?”
“My parents! They said yes!” she repeated, practically bouncing on her feet. “They’re okay with it—with us! You don’t have to just be my bodyguard anymore. We can actually—”
Her words were cut off as Mingi let out a soft laugh, his shoulders relaxing as relief and happiness washed over him. “They really said that?”
“Yes!” she exclaimed, squeezing his hands tightly. “We don’t have to hide how we feel, or worry about traditions, or anything. They’re okay with it!”
Mingi smiled down at her, his heart swelling with emotions he could barely put into words. “I’m happy for you, YN. For us.”
She laughed, the sound bright and carefree. “You’re happy? Mingi, I’m the happiest person alive right now! I don’t think I’ve ever been this happy!”
He chuckled, shaking his head. “You’re something else, Princess.”
“Of course I am,” she said playfully, sticking her tongue out at him. “Now come on, we have to celebrate! Ice cream, movies, anything you want—just name it!”
Mingi laughed again, letting her excitement wash over him. “Whatever you want, YN. Today’s your day.”
As they walked back toward the palace, YN chattering excitedly about all the plans she wanted to make, Mingi couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of gratitude. He’d always been content just being her protector, her shadow. But now, as he looked at her radiant smile and heard her joyful laughter, he realized that being by her side in this new way was more than he’d ever dreamed of.
For YN, the future felt brighter than ever. And for Mingi, there was no place he’d rather be than right there beside her, no matter what came next.

҉ * ‧͙ ⋆ ⁺ ༓ ☾ Chapter 6 - Hidden in Ba Sing Se
“My leg is broken so I have this disabled specialized animal” I smiled innocently, leaning against my Buffalo Yak for support. The lady sighed “usually i'm not allowed to invite animals…but you're an exception, you’re royalty for the northern water tribe after all” Her eyes sparkled as she took a closer look at my passport. The lady stamps my ticket and gives it to me graciously. “Thank the spirits” I muttered under my breath, hopping on my animal. This is when becoming a princess is actually beneficial. No one cares if you're royalty and do something a little…wrong, unless if you're part of the fire nation, royalty or not you're bound to be untrusted. I looked for an area with no people nearby, luckily there was quite an amount of open space. I got off my Buffalo Yak and pulled off the bandages resembling a horrible injury. “Aren't you lucky that I used my brain to get us both in there, I was scared that they weren't going to allow you in. I had to fake an injury for you- uh” I stopped myself “I never gave you a name”. The Buffalo Yak made a sound which I hummed at. “I'll name you… uh..Ah…Ah-ku…Aku!” I springed up in excitement. “Aku means the moon, pretty name right?” I smiled sheepishly to an animal, who probably doesn't even care. “Okay Aku, you and I are going to have a fresh start in Ba sing se” I slightly hug Aku “No future arranged marriage plans, no restrictment for my water bending and no more princess duties for me” I smiled in contentment for my future plans.
I internally gag at the situation I'm in. I couldn't tell if it was the disgusting food they supply us with or the fact I'm seasick on a boat or even both combined. I'm leaning towards the first option, it's not like this is the first boat I have ever rode on. Thinking all of this in my head made me feel like a brat but what do you expect? A girl who lived in luxury her whole life has to deal with this…food…? That same girl was also complaining of being a princess, mixed signals. Aku was getting transported by another boat, I would be lying if I said I wasn't worried. I thought escaping would be more fun than this, in fact ‘this’ is quite boring. It's not like I regret it, I just wished it could be more enjoyable than looking out at the sea. I make sure the wind doesn't blow off my hood from the cloak I was wearing to hide my identity. The last thing I wanted was word to go out that the Northern water tribe princess is here. I grip on the edge of my hood, digesting the wind that was coming from the side.
Fresh start.
Fresh start.
That's all I'm able to think of at this moment.
҉ ☾
“Where did all this food come from?” I said out loud. Loud enough for the boy who was passing the food to hear. “The people were generous enough to give us better food” He smiled. I look up at him and laugh. “Oh really?” “Yes really” He joined in my laughter and sat next to me. “So what's your name?” His eyes twinkled as I leaned back against the deck.
“Y/N” “Y/N huh? Sounds pretty familiar-” “My parents named me after the northern tribe princess” I quickly said, pulling out a complete lie out of nowhere. It's pretty believable, I would say. It's quite common for parents to name their children after royalties, I personally believe it's quite dumb. He laughed which made me awkwardly giggle “What's your name?” “They call me Jet”
“Why are you going to Ba sing se?”
“You’re asking a lot of questions” “I only asked two…” I deadpanned as he continued to smile. “I'm going to start a new life” He responded while I continued to eat my food. “I guess quite a lot of people have been coming for the same reason, huh?”
“Yeah, it's quite a good place to start”. Silence right after that. I like to keep it that way. “You should meet my freedom fighters, I have also met 2 others as well. I think you will get along with them.” Jet offered, already standing up, holding out his hand for me to reach. But I declined, shaking my head. “Im good staying here, thanks” I smiled. I wasn't in the mood to talk to more than 2 people today, neither participating in long conversations. He shrugged “Then I’ll see you around” and waved me off. I waved back slowly putting my hand down, sighing, hopefully tomorrow we can make it to the wall. Oh Yue, how much I wish you were here right now. I looked up at the moon, I couldn't tell but the moon seemed a little brighter than usual.
Leaning back against the sitting area provided, I felt so fatigued like my whole body was going to give out. I couldn't get Aku to help me because…well Aku is getting transported completely differently. “I always wondered why you wear a hood everywhere,” Jet, who came out of nowhere, came towards me. I laughed awkwardly, clutching the fabric closer to me. “It's a style choice” I whispered. “What a style choice” He laughed which made me smile. I felt the sweat from the anxiety I was facing. “I bet you would be even prettier with the hood off, but it's okay you're still pretty now” He smiled cheekily. I wanted to roll my eyes but I stopped from doing so. “Thank you” I said quickly, trying to make him just leave. Just as I thought he was decent. “Are you sure you don't want to meet my crew?” “I'm sure, please don't worry about me.”
“Do you not want to join in our adventure?” “I prefer going solo” I tightly smiled, hoping Jet would just leave me alone. Don't get me wrong, Jet isn't mean or bad I would say. At least to me he is not, however I'm quite literally hiding my identity from him. “Are you sure?” Jet moved a little close to my comfort. “No one would mind.” I leaned back against the pillar, pushing him back a little. “I'm definitely sure,” I said uncomfortably. “Whatever floats your boat” He cheekily smiled and went over to 4 others. The 2 he was talking to looked familiar. One was quite old, holding a cup of tea and the other was a boy who had a scar… I immediately got up from where I sat, and walked over to stand far away from them. Yes I was tired but I needed to remain precautious. I wish I could be able to kill him, I couldn't in this situation. Not too long the train arrived and I immediately found a spot far away from the two. I look at the window, seeing my own reflection faintly. Man, I was tired. The train starts slowly picking up pace as it moves. Oh what luck do I have?
“Aku!” I yell in joy as I find the Buffalo Yak. He made some bizarre animal sounds to show his gratitude. I got on his back as he started walking. “Now buddy, I actually don't know where to go” I sigh, I really should have made a plan. “Lets just book a room to sleep in, we’re going to be staying here for a while”.

"hopeful promises" childe x reader
(angst, hurt/no comfort.) major character death, one mention that captain guy, a bit rushed
gn reader, unspecified pronouns or descriptions for reader. this was in my drafts for two months. enjoy :}
you can recall every other time you were able to make it to the docks upon his arrival.
from the time you went to bed the night before, to the time you push past crowds of dozens just to reach his embrace, your heart exhilarated just at the thought of seeing his face once more--no matter how long the separation lasted.
and you knew that he, too, was always beyond ecstatic to spot you in the crowds of many. it didn't ever matter how many people in the crowd had similar traits as yourself or wore the similar clothes as you, as he would always make a beeline to you the moment he's off his ship. there could be a thousand identical to you around you both, but he'll always know where you are, amidst the crowd.
and so you waited today, waited for that familiar freckled face to disembark the large boat and become one of the many on land again. eventually, the sun started to set, and no more ships entered the harbor. disappointed, you went back to your home.
you checked the date again, and the last letter he sent you impending his return, which swore that today was the day.
but, alas, you knew of his job. you knew what you signed up for.
so you kept going back to wait, day after next, for him to come back to you.
today marks day eleven of stepping out onto that bridge, and the sun was already out of the sky, descending behind the hills over by the shielded horizon. you sigh, and drag yourself back home.
as you were about to stick the key into its keyhole, out of the corner of your eye, you spot a sealed envelope resting on the chair you two had planned to throw out. he had bought it for you a long while back, but recently decided to throw it out as he had planned to get you another one as, he says, "royalty only deserves the best reserved spot to rest their weary legs," he couldn't have you sitting on something uncomfortable.
you smile and grab the envelope, readjusting it so you can properly hold the key between the middle joint of your index finger and the pad of your thumb, pushing it into the knob and twisting it before making your way inside.
you kick off your shoes, and immediately work on unsealing the envelope, pulling out the paper hidden inside, for your eyes only.
to your surprise, it wasnt from him or his family. rather—from another harbinger—the one he would always tell you about.
your heart skipped a beat, but not in the way it usually woul whenever he had something to do with it. you didn't realize you were holding a breath, your eyes scanning down the words that read;
"to [name]; Ajax's partner,"
you didn't have to read far to have your heart stop beating in your ribcage, feelin like all beats were skipped entirely, as you read;
"we're sorry for your loss. but we are afraid that Tartaglia won't be making it home today, or any time coming forward. as you may know, the eleventh was always up for a challenge, always willing to push past his limits to proclaim victory against even the strongest of foes.
however, that wasn't the case this time — for he had lost his head in battle, and his corpse was frostbitten; hardly recognizable.
this was a battle that not even her highest, the tsaritsa's most loyal soldier could win. im sorry.
all regards,
Il C."
no.
that was—
... you simply couldn't believe it.
but even as you tried to fight reality, every teardrop that fell onto the trembling paper, which was now crumbling with wetness, brought you back again.
there was a reason as to why his eyes got more dull than present whenever he promised you—pinkie promised you that he'd be home. there was a reason he looked guilty everytime he promised his return would be set in stone, and you both knew that reason all too well.
and yet, you still couldn't believe it. how could you?
there was also a reason as to why he left that same, nearly torn up scarf with you, everytime he departed from home. he told you, "keep it. if there comes a day where I don't return to your arms, you'll still have something of me you can hold, even then."
maybe you could have taken this better if only he hadn't promised he'd be back.
no, no, that's not the case. it's not like.. it's not like he lied.
but..
that's exactly what he did.
he left you with hope every day, and each day that hope would turn to be true—each day except today, where you falsest of hopes were being forced to endure.
"baby," he would say, turning to you with a smile on his face—one that never seemed to reach his eyes. "im heading out now."
and you would respond, "for how long?"
"a couple of weeks." he heaved a sigh, already dreading being out of your reach for longer than an hour. "but it's alright.. I'll be back. it's nothing I can't handle."
you nodded, "I know." yet, there was a falter in your gaze that only he seemed to catch, reaching for your cheek to cup it as he pressed your foreheads together. "do you have my scarf?"
you nod again. "it's under your pillow." he laughed—and it would be the last you'd hear it.
"good.." he stared down at you, those blue eyes swirling with contemplation, before being replaced with the faintest of guilt as he holds up his pinkie.
you hesitate—just like all the other times—but link your own with his.
and always, he starts off—always, for—unbeknownst to you—he deliberately makes sure that the last line is yours to recite. everytime, without fail.
“you make a pinky promise, you keep it all your life."
"you break a pinkie promise, I throw you on the ice."
"the cold will kill the pinkie that once betrayed your friend.." he trailed off, and he can feel the pit in his stomach grow as he awaits your finish to the lullaby.
and now, that pit in your stomach was twice as big, now that you were thinking back on everything. oh, how you regret making such promises with him. ones that, even you knew would fail to be upheld one day.
yet, you foolishly finished; "and the frost will freeze your tongue off, so you never lie again.”
oh.
how true it turned to be.

Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3
ALRIGHT, SO-
Final part of this convoluted saga I came up with at like, 3 am one day. Last time we were left on a cliffhanger (because I'm evil like that) but now y'all (the maybe 4 people who's paying attention to this AU) get to see what happens next.
Let's just get right into it!
So, the quartet (Poppy, Cooper, Branch and Hickory), after hearing who had beamed them up into the giant UFO, was equally shocked and overjoyed, mostly on Poppy and Cooper's part. Immediately Cooper got up and started asking questions, like how is this possible, how Prince D. looked just like him, and if he's his twin, that means he's also royalty, and such things. It was here when King Quincy and Queen Essence entered the fray, which just excites Cooper further.
The two parents are obviously overjoyed at finally seeing their long lost son. They were kinda miffed at Prince D. for using the bubble without their supervision, but seeing who he had beamed, they let it slide for now.
The same stuff then happened as it is in the movie, with some dialouge changes, like Cooper telling the Funk Family how he got with the Pop Trolls as an egg. They noticed Branch in the group, and was pleasently surprised how a Techno Troll is with the Pop Trolls, since they're an isolated bunch. Branch said that he doesn't really know what made his egg be with the Pop Trolls, just that his adoptive family found him one day and took him in. The Funk Family then tells him the brief history of the Techno Trolls since they can kinda tell he's clueless and they felt bad. Then the history of the Strings came along.
Same thing there, explaining how every tribe once lived in harmony until Pop got greedy and stole all the strings, so everybody else took back their strings and ran, living in isolation from eachother ever since.
Cooper and Branch is clearly disturbed. Maybe because of their respective tribe of origin before they settled in Pop Village they feel more unsettled by the news, but they felt horrified by the implication nonetheless. Poppy even more so, desperate to prove that the Pop Trolls are not like that anymore, look at Cooper and Branch! They're fine! (Enter worried side eyes from the two). Then everything goes as it is in the movie, the Funk Family softly rejecting her offer to combine their music together, and Rock invading and everyone preparing for battle, with Cooper deciding to stay behind to help his family by bubbling everyone to safety back to the ground below.
The same argument Branch and Poppy has happens, with a little change in the dialouge. It's something along the lines of Poppy not listening to others when they offer advice that might work in her favour, and instead goes off to do her own thing; about how she doesn't listen when her way does more harm than good; about how, in a way, she's doing the same thing Barb is doing. The two split off, with Branch having the intention of going back to Pop Village to warn the others. It may not be his tribe of origin, but it is his home for all his life, and he'd protect it in whatever way he can.
We cut to Poppy sulking to herself before being spotted by Hickory, who manages to find her. Same dialouge happens, with Poppy revealing the string to him, Dickory splitting from Hickory's... behind and revealing their true identities as Bounty Hunters, and squabbling with her for possession of the string. In here, perhaps due to talking with Cooper and Branch, who are different genre Trolls but holds love for Pop, empowered his hidden desire to see harmony between different genres and tribes, and decided to fight back against his partner (brother? Brother). Of course, this doesn't go unpunished by Barb, who suddenly appears with her lackeys and apprehended both Poppy and Hickory, saying that this is what they deserve for trying to delay her plans (she lets Dickory go, but not without a warning to control his brother). Poppy claimed she'll stop her, but Barb revealed that she has invaded Pop Village and destroyed most things there, so all Poppy can do is sit tight and watch the show.
Turning back to Branch, when he finished his 2014's sad boy song, he then got ambushed by the K-Pop gang and the Reggaeton Trolls, who demands the location of Queen Poppy. Obviously he refuses 'cause while he still has beef with her, she's the most important person in his life, so you bet he'll try to protect her at all costs. The dance off still commences the same way (you have to admit, dancing with fins for legs is hella impressive), with thw two groups complimenting eachother on their dances before interrogating Branch again.
The convo here is changed slightly because I wanna see Branch and the two Bounty Hunter groups to interact some more 'cause their dynamic is interesting. Basically it's the lines of,
"Why does Barb decides which music is safe to listen to? All music is worth listening to. Liking different genres doesn't matter."
"Ugh, what do you know, Techno Troll? You don't know how it feels to be regarded as lesser for liking a different music."
"[Pop Troll profanity], I'm literally a living example of that, who do you think I've been living with all my life? And besides, who's to say Barb won't turn tail on her side of the deal and destroy you, too?"
With the power of persuasion, he managed to stop the two groups from continuing their plans and starts a temporary truce between them. His first initial plan was to get back to Pop Village to confirm everyone's safety and maybe stop Barb from destroying it. But Chaz (the guy that made him trip balls) suddenly appeared and steps in their conversation to say that Barb has gained all the strings and is making her way to Volcano Rock City, home of the Rock Trolls. This completely changes the course of his plan, but Branch is determined to follow through.
So he, the K-Pop gang, the Reggaeton Trolls and Chaz (who only came along for the thrill of it) all decide to work together to stop Barb from achieving whatever it is she's planned to use the strings for. They found the sentient hot air balloon Branch had ridden before chillin' in the outskirts of Lonesome Flats, and hopped in to make an impromptu trip to Volcano Rock City.
The scene with Poppy and Barb chatting is the same because other than it being a first face to face convo with the two, it changes nothing in the long run.
We go to the scene where Barb does a wardrobe change and presents the other tribe leaders to put her Power Chord thing to the test, to make everyone Skillet enjoyers. But before she could fire at Poppy (who she chose as the first target), a book came flying at her face. She looked up, only to see a Techno Troll along with the rest of the Bounty Hunters she hired coming in flying from a hot air balloon. (He also said the same catchphrase, "I guess a comprehensive manual does come in handy!") This shocked her since she made sure every Techno Troll was accounted for when she first invaded Techno Reef. So what the heck is this guy doing here?!
The other leaders was surprised and concerned by his arrival, but none of them rivaled the feeling of shock and horror coming from Poppy, and Trollex respectively.
Before they could think any further, and before Barb can even do anything, Branch suddenly leaps from the balloon straight down to where Barb is. And, in the most simplest term I can use, he Falcon Punched her. In the face. The guy's not afraid to play dirty.
Soon enough the two of them got into a nasty brawl, with both giving everything they got to beat the other. One is trying to take the guitar away, and one is trying to keep the guitar from the other. Million pairs of eyes is watching them play it out on stage.
While everyone else was shocked and frozen in place, Poppy began working to get her cage door open while she's distraced. Just as she's about halfway through that the victor of the scuffle is decided. While most of the Rock Trolls on the front seat were too stunned to protect their Queen, a few managed to step in and hold Branch in place. Barb waste no time using the Power Chord on him, to Poppy and the leaders' horror.
When the stone cracked and revealed Branch as a rock zombie, new colours, clothing and all, something in Trollex snapped.
It seems there's a pattern with Techno Trolls being violent when pushed to the brink, as when Barb had finished transforming Quincy and Essence and moved to him and Trollzart, no joke, he flew from his platform, and speeds straight onto Barb to give her a good beatdown like his subject the other Techno Troll did. It sorta worked, since Barb soon fell from her cable straight to the crowd below (man Trollex packs a punch). Before the Rock Trolls in the crowd could get any ideas, Trollex took the guitar from her hands and threw it back on stage, where it's out of her reach for now. He would've followed suit, if Barb hadn't got a good grip on Trollex's fins and dragged him down to her.
But it seems that Trollex's little distraction worked against her favour, as Poppy managed to get out of her cage amidst the scuffle and dashes straight to the guitar, but not before being blocked by rock zombie Branch (I got a design in mind for him, just wait and see winky face). She's horrified at seeing her best friend boyfriend being like this, but she's determined to make things right, to make sure Barb doesn't fall to the wrong path any further and hurt many more innocent Trolls. She does her speech on how everything being the same is hella boring (character development!) and how she can't force someone to be the same as her because differences do matter.
Then she proceeds to smash the guitar to bits, and the strings followed suit.
Suddenly the entire city turned grey, with no colours in sight. The zombified Trolls (ie Branch, Quincy, Essence and Trollzart, who Barb managed to hit when Trollex one punched her) were turned back to normal. But that's not really important when everyone's turned Grey with the loss of the strings.
But the same scene in the movie happened here also, with them singing by themselves bringing their colours and music back. Nothing much changed in that regard.
Branch and Poppy reunited with a hug and Poppy then went full on her apologies, saying that she's sorry for being dismissive on his suggestions and that she should've listened to him more, that her desire to be a good Queen overshadowed what she actually needed to be one; patience and a willingness to listen. Before she could go overboard, Branch stopped her. And then said on how he's also sorry for how angry he got at her, and that he knew she has only done the things she did out of a genuine desire to do good. They finished with another hug, and the infamous dialouge,
"Branch... I love being different."
"And I love you, Queen Poppy."
[Cue the Snack Pack handing eachother money in the background].
After they did that high-five that makes glitter appear out of nowhere, the two are then approached by the Troll of the hour; King Trollex. For the first time in his life, Branch gets to see the tribe he originated from, the tribe he was born to. And Trollex gets to see the Techno Troll born from the egg that was lost to him all those years ago, grew up into a strong and independent soul.
The atmosphere was tense, with no one speaking a word for a while. Branch and Trollex continued to stare at eachother, taking the other in full detail. Poppy was starting to get nervous and decides to cut in, but not before Trollex pulled Branch into a tight hug, fins and all. Branch is justifiably freaked out and froze, but he then heard the words spoken from the Techno Troll monarch,
"I know I mean nothing to you. That you value and love Pop more than Techno, for they are your entire world. And I get it. I respect it. I'd offer you to come home with me, but I know that's useless. But, if you're willing, I'd like for us to get to know eachother, regardless of differences. I failed you then, but please, let me make up for it now. I want to know your trials, your tribulations. Your achievements. Perhaps not as king and subject, but... as friends."
Branch, despite freaking out about the close contact with his king this stranger he just met 30 seconds ago, felt oddly... relieved. And lighter than he was for a long time. Make no mistake, for all that Trollex is supposed to be to him, he's a stranger in his eyes. A person he'll instinctively distance at first. But then again,
What is a stranger if not a person to befriend?
WOO! WE DID IT! WE MANAGED TO REACH THE END, LET'S GO!!
Man, the amount of rewriting I did to make this as coherent as possible is staggering. But I'm glad I persevered, since now the World Tour saga of this AU is finally finished! While yeah, Branch doesn't get to hang around his tribe as much here, but that's what Trollstopia will be about! Oh boy, can't wait to get to that.
But in all cases, thank you for the maybe 6 people now that's been following me through with this, I hope you enjoy what I have to offer. Do not be fooled, for I have much, much more to offer for this AU. Until then, take care!
Band Together awaits :)
#also#the scene with the snack pack disguising themselves as rockers#yeah removed#they literally serve zero purpose#doesnt change anything in the story#so im sorry tiny diamond fans#he stays a background character here#but he wont be in the next installment if u kno what i mean ;)#trolls#techno!branch au#branch trolls#trolls poppy#trolls barb#trolls cooper#trolls prince d#trolls king trollex#trolls king quincy#trolls queen essence

Has anyone else started to see a pattern in regards to royalty. We got pink and blue appearing a lot for the hair. Observe.
Vivi Néfertari and Hiyori Kozuki
Both of them were Royalty Hidden in plain sight. fighting with an important purpose in mind.
You can even Apply this to Franky
When we first met him. He's the inheritor of a weapon against the world government. A master (or Prince) of ship building from his mentor Tom. Hidden in plain sight. With a new name and identity.
Then there are the Pinks
I believe it represents a hidden Talent or power. But they're know.
Princess Shirahoshi
Commander of Sea Kings also known as Poseidon. Hears and speaks 'Voice of all things '
Princess Rebecca
A warm and kind heart with a Talent in Swordman ship of the coloseme. However she chooses a Passive style. After the teachings of her mother. Her indomitable Will is her strength.
Charlotte Linlin
She is naturally strong. But then you add in the hunger cravings. A mental block she has she becomes monstrous and unrelenting. Something we did not know the full extent of until it was revealed.
Koby(Coby)
Excellent observation Haki. Eventually the successor to Garp. Everyone sees this kid's skills and determination.
The Reason I bring this up is because of these guys.
In a manner of speaking these guys are princes. Shanks with his obvious connection to the Dragons. Buggy with undefined origins from the Grand Line.
Both of them were introduced and confirmed as Cabin boys to Gol D. Roger early on in the story. And with the saturation of their colors increasing as we get closer to the Battle with the celestial dragons.
Buggy is definitely going to end up on that throne by accident. Cause that's the next step on Buggy's journey.

He/she had twin sons that were A-Yuan and Jingyi I believe and then in the end LWJ who is the father of the twins but he doesn’t know it, fakes his death and finds them by an anonymous tip *cough cough* NHS who had tried to get WWX to rejoin the cultivation world earlier when NMJ died. @bigmeatycl0ws

15. y’all are doing the gods work with this blog and this is coming from an atheist XD
anywho i’m looking for a specific fic (or was it series?) where the premise is the swords are spirits that can manifest in a human body. wwx is one such sword called suibian, as is lwj. the story starts (i think) with wwx being jc’s sword and they don’t really get along/harmonise (big surprise)
there’s some world building of a story of xxc being a self wielding sword and getting tricked by xy and either doing bad stuff and then dying or just dying.
uh it ends with wwx and lwj proving to the golden tower (the peeps that hold the swords because they’re too innocent or whatevs to be alone out in the wild) that they can handle their own. there’s a line in there about how they’re not self-wielding swords, but swords that wield each other.
wwx was previously lwj’s human under the name wwx something one or both of them forgot.
there’s some scene after about wwx meeting jc’s new sword and there being some antagonism between them (new sword throwing tantrum and wwx being chaotic but solving the problem as usual)???
think author said it was inspired slightly by touken ranbu? or some other sword person anime/game thing?
this is so detailed it’s bothering me so much but i can’t find it and i’m at the point where i’m doubting if it existed ;-; @tabbycallie
FOUND! swords, i guess by victortor (T, 26k, wangxian, swords au, asexual character, asexual LWJ)

16. Please help me find a fic! I think it was a WWX's Parents Live fic, but I can't be sure. I remember that LQR had a good opinion of him at the start of the guest lectures. There's a scene where LQR is talking about talismans, and has WWX take out all of the talismans he has on him. WWX has a whole system set up for combat talismans in one sleeve and general use talismans in the other, and he lectures about their unique uses and value and a bunch of sect heirs get angry at him for showing them up, and I think there's a fight later? But I really don't remember much beyond that. @lewiscarrolatemybrain
FOUND! From the Warm Sun by sunshine_sparrow (T, 58k, WangXian, CSSR & WWX, CSSR & LQR, Discussion of Rape, Period-Typical Sexism, Mostly CQL but probably some MDZS too, CSSR Lives, Madam Lán Lives, Qingheng-jun lives, But WCZ Still Dies, Fix-It, Happy Ending, All Soft and Very Little Angst, the wens live, Yīn Iron, Good Person MY, Good Person LQR) The scene with the talismans is in chapter 4.

17. Hello, thank you guys for all of your hard work! Don’t remember if this was book or cql canon but im looking for a fic where post WWX death lwj travels to another world where wwx is still alive during the cr lectures and older lwj, young WWX and young lwj end up sleeping together and then nhs comes and brings lwj back to their og world fulfill his grand plan

18. Hi! I have already asked this before but i can't remember the title again. So i am asking for your help once again.
So like, the cultivation world needs yiling laozu's help and they tried to summon him using mo xuanyu but they failed since yl Iz appeared in his own original body and not in mxy. Anyway so history repeats itself, wwx knows everybody especially lan zhan cuz he his "friend" that time. They became curious about wwx, they found his journal and he kept talking about this certain friend eventually they found out the friend's name is lan zhan lan wangji. Time skip they found out that Iwj reincarnated, he looks exactly the same as wwx's friend. Lxc said it was impossible cuz all their ancestors died because of an explosion that was caused by wwx back in the day.
There is this spefic scene, wwx kept blaming himself because he was the reasom why Iz died, ok so Iz married a woman (arranged marriage) and had child with her, wy was heartbroken and told Iz that he has feelings for him, Iz also has feelings for him, so when Iz heard that the sects will have a siege in burial mounds he went there and protected wy then something happened and the surroundings explode.
Anyway, they have come to a conclusion that wy is an immortal, he took care of Iz's child, Iz reincarnated he fought really hard to keep his body and appearance the same @hellothere9597
I know I’ve read this one but I can’t remember the name and all the tags I think should be in there aren’t :’) ~Mod L

Cherry Blossoms are another spring blooming flower, that I think suits because it is spring in the story and Felix is from the Spring Court. Cherry Blossoms have become associated with living in the moment, taking time to appreciate things as they are at present, and not always looking at the distant future that is bound to change. They can also symbolise femininity. In this chapter, Felix is trying not to focus on how he has to try and win Hyunjin's heart. Instead, he tries to enjoy what he is wearing for the ball and how he feels beautiful in it. I also rewatched the skz vlog of Felix, Hyunjin, and Jeongin getting their personal colour theory done. Lighter, pale tones suited Felix more, so I designed his dress off of that. Cherry Blossom petals are also a light pink color, which I feel like it makes it a good choice. Aha, I feel like I'm sitting my English exams again when I'm analysing like this. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this chapter.
Word Count: 1.1K
Felix stared at the dress on the mannequin his mother had made for him. The rose-pink and ivory satin ball gown had been specifically designed for the Summer Cout ball. She wanted Felix in light colours that made his skin glow and showcased the Spring Court. As the daughter of the Spring Court’s capital, it was only right that he stood out compared to the others.
The dress’s bodice was a puffball sleeve, off-the-shoulder, ivory top, topped with a rose-pink corset that laced up with an ivory ribbon in the back, and came down in a ‘v’ at the front. A petticoat was hidden under a layer of ivory satin, then an ivory lace with cherry blossoms embroidered across and bunched into ruffles at the hem. On top, a rose-pink satin curtained around the back and sides, leaving the front open for the lace to be seen. As Felix walked the satin would shimmer underneath. On his bed, a matching cloak was folded along with a pair of ivory long-sleeve gloves, and a pearl necklace.
Felix couldn’t deny that it was beautiful and that he was excited to wear it, however, the dress was a reminder of his duties for the night. His mother would most likely be monitoring him the whole time, while also trying to get him near to the Prince. Felix hoped Minho would be able to come up with an excuse to let him hide away for a bit, even if it was just for a minute.
“Are you ready, Your Royal Highness?” Chaeryeong said, coming to stand beside the Princess—a set of towels folded across her arms.
Felix hummed. At least he could enjoy the night knowing that he did feel beautiful in the dress.
“I’m glad you like it, daughter.” Felix’s mother stood to his other side. She wanted to see Felix’s expression when he first saw the dress and could easily say she was pleased when Felix broke into a wide smile. “I believe you are going to outshine many there.”
“Thank you, mother, for having this wonderful dress made for me.” Felix’s appreciation was genuine.
“Good, now let’s get you bathed and glistening.” His mother led the way and watched over as Felix was prepared. It was bad to think of her daughter as a product, but everyone had their duties.
“Have you been remembering the information I got for you about Prince Hwang Hyunjin?” Felix’s mother spoke, looking at his reflection in the mirror as his hair was dried and styled.
“Yes, mother. You may test me.” Felix worked hard to not disappoint or risk offending his mother at the ball.
The Queen cleared her throat. “Very good. I’ll start easy then they’ll get more difficult. Your first question is, when is the Prince’s birthday?”
“March twenty-fifth. Today is his twentieth birthday. There are one-hundred and seventy-four days between our birthdays.”
The Corner of the Queen’s lip lifted into a small smile as Felix replied with more information than needed. “Where did the Prince grow up?”
“In the capital of the Summer Court, the Dawn region. He grew up with his Cousin, Princess Hwang Yeji, she will also be attending the ball and is someone I should try to befriend.”
The Queen hummed, happy with the answers. “Yes, Princess Yeji will mostly be next to Prince Hyunjin for much of the night. I believe her opinions will be taken into account by the Prince. Next question, who is the third cousin?”
“Prince Nishimura Riki. He lives abroad.”
“Yes, however, he is currently here with his mother. His mother and the Prince’s mother shall be overlooking all the women who enter the ball tonight. Make sure that you look presentable and be well-behaved at every moment. If you try and eat a grape and miss your mouth, or disrespectfully chew with your mouth open, it will ruin your chances. I already feel like you’re at risk since your attendance record is low. From now on, you are no longer allowed to avoid making public appearances. I need you to be loved.”
Felix glanced at his mother. “Of course, mother.”
“Next question, what are the Prince’s hobbies?”
“He enjoys training and fighting, but he also likes to read. The Prince has said that reading helps to calm him down after practice, it also teaches him new techniques and tactics.”
“Close friends?”
“Lord Lee Dweahi from the Spring Court. His family lives over in the East. He will also be attending the ball.”
“Yes, Lord Dweahi is an… interesting character. I do hope he doesn’t cause too much of a commotion with his drinking. I’m sure the Prince will keep him in check to not embarrass himself. Anyway, you’ve done well with answering my questions, so I’ll only ask you one more; what is the Prince’s favourite food?”
“Sushi, and for fruit it is watermelon. He doesn’t like onions, carrots, and eggplants.” Felix let out a deep breath, no longer feeling like he was in the prosecution chair. He’d managed to answer all his mother’s questions, now it was only a matter of time until he had to meet the Prince.
Chaeryeong stepped back, letting the Queen have a full view of Felix’s hair and make-up. “All done, Your Majesty.”
The Queen stood from the cushioned chair she’d reclined in, wearing a tight-lipped smile as she stood behind her daughter—hands on his shoulders. “Marvellous, I have no doubt in you getting the Prince’s attention this evening.”
Felix returned the smile—he looked so much like his mother. Chaeryeong had styled Felix’s hair into a bun with a series of curls hanging down, framing his face. He didn’t like how his make-up covered up his freckles, but he couldn’t go against his mother’s word, especially on a night like tonight. His lips were a soft pink, the same that dusted around his eyes. The bottom of his eye line had been traced black with kohl. The kohl was also used to darken and extend his eyelashes.
“Oh, daughter,” his mother sang—a sign her next words may not be so loving “Tonight, you’ll represent the Spring Court, the capital’s family, and me.” There it was—the sign for Felix to play puppet.
His mother proceeded to open a wooden box on the vanity table. Taking out the tiara, she places it on Felix’s head. The tiara was made of platinum branches donned with diamonds cut to make flowers. A single tear-drop diamond hung from the tiara’s peak.
Felix’s smile grew feeling the weight of the tiara on his head. A part of him couldn’t deny that he truly felt beautiful.
His mother hummed with Felix being ready for the ball. “Let’s go, daughter. It’ll be good to get there a bit early and talk with the others there.”
“I’ll see you later, Chaeryeong.” Felix hugged her goodbye once his mother had left the room.
“Good luck,” Chaeryeong wished, giving him a wink.
“Thank you,” Felix giggled and hurried after his mother.

Court of Darkness: You Look Good With…
Here’s a list of items each prince finds most attractive on the MC when the MC wears them.
…
Guy - Ruby Rings
Upon their engagement, Guy gives MC a beautiful ruby ring, an heirloom passed down generations by Avari royalty. He’s made a slight modification to the ring, adding a protection spell to have it shine like a beacon when poison is detected—one can never be too careful with assassination attempts.
The ring is a sign—one that shows MC’s power and commitment to Guy, and a warning to others that she is his and his alone. To the Avari court’s great surprise, Guy has a second nearly identical ring made that he wears. It too is a sign to others—that he will have no other being than her by his side.
Lynt - Matching Cloak
The day Lynt gets giddy with excitement is one where MC shows off a white and emerald green cloak made by an Akedian tailor residing in Colde. The cloak is similar to the one that Lynt has in that it doubles as a sleeping bag. Unlike his cloak, MC’s cloak can magically expand to hold two people in it.
Lynt instantly wants to try wearing MC’s cloak with her. And thus Lynt discovers a second enhancement to the cloak—it includes an enchantment that allows users to blend into their environment like a chameleon. Now he and MC will have fewer interrupted naps!
Sorry Tino—your job at finding your wayward prince just got harder.
Toa - Scarf with Hidden Pockets
MC knits a gigantic cobalt scarf to match Toa’s piercing blue eyes. The scarf is long enough to easily accommodate two people. MC uses the scarf to snuggle with Toa when walking in town or sitting in the S:Rank lounge. The scarf is wider and thicker at each end so that MC can secretly hold Toa’s hands underneath it to warm them up.
Toa adores the scarf—it was crafted with love, and he gets to subtly enjoy MC’s touch without showing off too much PDA. Fenn often tries to join the cuddle scarf session, to Toa’s extreme annoyance. In these moments, MC brings a smile back on Toa’s face by grabbing a homemade Carmel from the scarf’s hidden pockets and placing it in his mouth.
Fenn - Jasmine Perfume and Fishnet Stockings
When it comes to Fenn, everything feels like a caress—his quips, his whispered words, his elegant fingers dancing across exposed skin. Conversely, Fenn feels most comforted by MC when he smells her jasmine perfume. He nuzzles against her neck whenever she is near, wanting to drown in her scent. Even if she is not with him, he’ll snuggle up against her Jasmine-infused pillow until she returns—after all, she is the home that he can always return to.
Fenn also has a thing for MC wearing skimpy outfits that show off her legs—especially fishnet stockings.
MC: Fenn, I feel so exposed wearing these!
Fenn: Well, that’s the point, isn’t it Treasure?
MC: Says the man who’s fully clothed right now! *Pouts*
Fenn: Ah, that can be quickly dealt with. *Wink*
Roy - Rose Petal Earrings and His Jacket
Sentimental man that he is, Roy saved a few rose petals that floated in the air with their first kiss. He freeze dried two of the petals and worked with an Invidian silversmith to craft a set of rose pedal earrings encased with silver. Roy smiles whenever MC wears them…which is constantly.
The earrings, however, are Roy’s second favorite thing MC wears. The absolute favorite thing is discovered by accident. One day, MC comes out of Roy’s shower, but is unable to find a towel. Since she hasn’t mastered the spell for drying herself off, she grabs Roy’s white and pink jacket, dons it like an impromptu bathrobe, and walks out to his room.
MC: Hey Roy, do you have a towel?
Roy: *Mouth is partially open, golden eyes widening in astonishment*
MC: Umm, sorry about wearing this Love, I couldn’t find—
Roy: *Pulls MC to his chest* By Creator, how are you so adorable and alluring at once?
Congrats MC—your date plans with Roy just got thrown out the window.
Rio - Apron and Flour
Cooking and baking are among Rio’s favorite things to do with MC. His heart is at its fullest when he and MC are in the kitchen, making food for themselves and their friends, flour speckled on their noses and cheeks.
MC gets two aprons, one for her one for Rio. They both say “Kiss the cook” on the front. Rio takes this message quite literally.
MC: Rio! I have jam on my lips and face now!
Rio: Oops, let me get that off for you Sunbeam! *Kisses/licks jam off MC’s face*
Lance - Leather Jacket
A black leather jacket looks VERY good on MC. It highlights her curves in all the right places, it’s certainly edgier than what those ridiculous S Ranks wear, AND she looks quite pleased with wearing it given the smile she graces Lance with.
MC smiles because the jacket contains special pockets—ones she uses to hide treats for Grushia the wolf or Christop. MC isn’t sure who is happier—Christop or Grushia at getting the yummy food, or Lance at seeing the pup and boy so happy.

Subspace with Programming
🗝️🏷️ RAMCOA/OEA, CSA, ACSA, sexual themes, references to EEGs.
TL;DR We’re looking for a way to build healthy relationships with alters who have no base of safe-enough. We think subspace, sexually and not, will help.
We went to a presentation about altered states in BDSM, and they pulled up an EEG of the drop into subspace. This specific one was of a person suspended by piercings, showing the brain activity going up for rigging and suspension, and then dropping from tall yellow to short red as they slipped into the fuzzy subby state.
The presenters talked about a spike a while after the change, and that for this person it was a moment of processing. They had been using their subspace to grieve, and that was the moment they ran a list of important people they’d lost.
We got to talk to the researchers when they finished presenting, and we asked about altered states in people with already atypical states (age regression, developmental delays, systems).
BDSM in Healing
The author of one of the only recovery books about OEA talks about why their CDD clients shouldn’t participate in BDSM, and we’ve taken issue with that for a while. Similar to how autistic people do well with proper BDSM, traumatized systems also benefit from learning negotiation and safer sexual practices.
We’ve spoken to our therapist about the grey areas where it might be better to stay away (if a system has poor communication, if system members will take on sex or pain as a job, if there isn’t control over switching during scenes), and we agreed that there was no one-size-fits-all for approaching sexuality.
Most systems have an absolute boundary of no sexual interaction for littlies. In the book, there were two contrary opinions about that. One was that any sexual encounter resembling what the young ones survived was bad, because there was no way to prevent leakage from whoever was doing it. That was the author, Alison Miller’s.
The other was that sexual NPCs had allowed the young ones to meet their sexual needs from trauma, and the children could then continue their age-appropriate development. That was a survivor story, and they created the NPCs to give safe-enough touch that eventually led into safe touch (with no sexual component).
And I still come at it from a harm reduction standpoint; letting inside kids participate in sexual activities shouldn’t be the first step, or the second or the third, but there’s only so many angles some systems can try before that’s the best option.
After this point, orange paragraphs are details of abuse.
Harm Reduction
Our left sidesystem doesn’t have many obvious littlies. The group we came from didn’t find value in children outside of exploitation, and we were assigned adult identities. It takes several layers of peeling to find the childlike states in most of us, so we didn’t have as much fear of accidentally getting a child in front for sex stuff.
The Left still has programming, but ours is more focused on external presentation (amnesia, silence, reporting), and the traumatized insiders are hidden away.
The right side, however, is child-heavy. They also appear to be adults, but they know their actual ages are younger. The right is where our ‘good’ alters were placed, and that refers to the trafficked and ritually abused kids. The ones who respond to cues, who fit perfectly into the role the perps wanted.
Some of the young ones on the right are the sexualized pets, dancers, royalty. Also worth noting are the clumps of shattered fragments; the organs, the rotting body parts, the broken dolls. The majority of the Horrors (tm) happened to people on this side, and they’re all so heavily programmed that they continue responding when called.
Cues and Triggers
The ‘perfect’ ones, who weren’t shattered, show up at front for themes of bestiality, CSEM, and torturous sex. Since building trust, we’ve discovered who comes out for what (there’s a curtain of mist or smoke when people are hiding). We don’t try to expose them to any of those things, but there are situations that draw them out by similarity.
One of the most shameful events we’ve made front-accessible is when our family brought home the dog they have now. We were maybe 12 when it happened, in our bedroom, and we have the memory because a left-side alter wasn’t fully kicked from front. The dog was a puppy, he jumped on everything before he learned better. He was big enough for our size, and he hit a pressure point that cued out a younger alter. They got into position, expecting there to be adults with cameras to guide the encounter.
We were fully clothed for that, nobody else in the room, and the puppy wasn’t trained to do anything about it. The littlie was confused, the puppy was confused, the left alter was confused, and that was it. The puppy was immediately distracted by a noise outside, so we opened the bedroom door and he took off.
This happens with the littlies we can’t talk to unless they’re in the fronting realm, and who can only stay in the fronting realm while they have an active trigger. We have interventions, but those are focused on the safety of the ones we find. We don’t have a reliable means of encouraging alters to remain safe and work on their behaviors.
We’ve gotten better at having notecards and alarms that redirect them to notebooks and apps, and we have them learn how to summon a few creature alters to talk. More and more of the people on the right are working with us, talking to others and banding together.
Before BDSM
Once they start deprogramming, we look for the structures and controls that prevent them from moving around. After that, we bring them to a safe subrealm of wherever they were, have them decide what changes they want (while the older ones look into what changes they need), and rebuild their area. Sometimes we have to move them elsewhere because of environmental risks or other alters trying to reprogram in their area.
Movement is the easiest for us because we don’t have many low-level alters who care to stay as they were. Once we demonstrate safe communication, they pick it up on their own time.
It comes back to sexuality and trauma. We don’t make anyone do trauma work before they want to (or aren’t resistant to the idea), and that leaves some of us with programmed urges. There are rules specific to every area, which is why some of them are still actively violent, and try to herd people into healthier mindsets for every iteration.
It’s hard. We’ve tried forcing people into therapy (which went badly with every plan we’ve implemented), having them talk with a mediator (it’s apparently subcultural), banning violence (worked temporarily until they found workarounds), and restraining people (we can do it if they allow it, otherwise Big No).
Why We’re Considering It
Some of us (not just the young ones) seek out unhealthy dynamics, or have problems we can’t solve before each person is ready. Once we start, it looks like doing system therapy for that alter’s subsystem, and sometimes for the nested subsystems — which is the same process but on a plane none of us see.
We need genuine cooperation, or at least benevolent deceit. So we’ve been thinking about what that BDSM research would do for us, internally interpersonally and with NPCs. It would be the most developmentally appropriate alters first, seeing how altered states bode with our subsystem switching (I don’t think we can accidentally summon the littlies to internal places), maybe trying to use the university’s EEG equipment.
Then, if that goes well, trying the NPCs with safe-enough versions of what the older ones were doing (aiming to avoid sexual exposure beyond the environmental cues they already know).
There’s so many of us. Probably all of us have young self-states, and there are at least a few hundred actual littlies. The idea is to get the altered state that helps processing, led by another insider (or NPC). It’s harm reduction compared to how they are when we find them and how they remain before heavy healing. This might be a road to recovery without the same pits of previous diversions. Then we can get to the phase of actually educating them and showing them choices in states where they really get to choose.
Thinking feels like catching eels, so I’m gonna end this here. Point is, subspace sounds cool and we want to try it sexually for adults and nonsexually for children. We’ve had progress with pseudo-sexual methods with sexual alters before. Wish us luck.

Cuck(2) detected
Ok so me and @val-of-the-north consumed mushrooms from Willem's back and decided to brainstorm the Old Gods family tree! This was fun! Maybe some things will get reviewed later, but for now we good!
1) It was initially Val's idea that Caitha was Nito's daughter as someone closely tied to death, as well as he pointed out Pinwheel's masks actually must refer to Nito's family! Nito has an empty coffin nearby, and there is even a smaller coffin hidden.. So yeah. Father, mother and child! I pointed out that since Nito was not a God but Caitha is, it was the mother who had to be a Goddess- and it is further backed up by how Mask of the Mother sticks out in comparison:
Father and Child look like just people, but Mother looks odd. I offered the idea that her quirk had to be connected to the water, since Caitha's quirk is tears of grief (death + water)! Her mask's design also features water waves motifs! o: (also I guess Nito had curly hair when he was alive XD)
2) We really liked the idea that whenever God has a child, they combine quirks of the parents, so there are other children! Gwynevere = Light + Love, Nameless King = Light + Justice as that kind of noble warrior associated with crows and what not, so this is general principle we follow mostly to detect parents
3) We are still not sure of the level on which Dancer, Rosaria and Queen of Lothric descend from Gwynevere, so the lines aren't clear! Dancer would be at least not a bastard kind of descendant since she is of royal family, so, from marriage!
4) Not sure of the exact specifics on Seath, it can be strange dragon genders or some soul fuckery, but we honestly tried to find another explanation for dragon blood of Gwyndolin, Priscilla and Yorshka and could not.. He is just the only dragon character relevant, and don't mind Gwyndolin being a sorcerer, and also the Moonlight butterflies stuff
5) Seath is the only white dragon and Priscilla is explicitly stated to be pale too, so we think it is safest to assume she is his daughter! She is also stated to be a bastard in Japanese original, so, illegitimate child of a royalty. Lifehunt ability then comes from Caitha's genes! We decided Priscilla was abandoned at infancy, clutching that doll, but we aren't sure yet whether her and Yorshka are non-identical twins only one of which shown fearsome ability potential right out or Gwyn just discovered a huge cuck fetish JHSDFFHDSHFS The thing here that puzzled me is that we receive Lifehunt ability from Soul of Aldrich in DS3, referring to him seeing 'pale girl in hiding' (Yorshka) after consuming Gwyndolin! That'd mean either that Gwyndolin had the gene too (connecting it to Seath then since Priscilla and Yorshka are no gods, ie the shared parent is not Gwyn), or that it was envisioned through sort of 'clairvoyance' from memory about Yorshka. Bro already envisioned Age of the Deep coming, so why not stop at the latter here?
6) Shira stated to be daughter of the Duke, which Val double-checked that shared symbols with Seath's title! The characters known with that status are Seath himself and that guy who is relevant to Seath, so sure, why not say the accent on that status had to be deliberate..
^ would've been really sexy if the KEPT her white hair from concept art, then. I have an impression that either relation to Seath was an implication that got obscured later due to time constrains (like Fromsoft ALWAYS does and never learns from their mistakes) or it was consequences of how DS3 face model creators are infamous for doing the characters dirty. Look at what they did with Kirk. Look at what they did with Creighton and HIS wonderful white mane. Basically it is a straw we would like to grasp
_________
That's I think the gist of headcanons, @val-of-the-north might add extra details and justifications if he's willing to!
#dark souls#dark souls 1#dark souls 3#dark souls 1 headcanons#dark souls 3 headcanons#dark souls headcanons#(wow it is really hard to tag ds trilogy stuff fdhsfhds)#dark souls 1 reference#seriously tho I have full disrespect to people who made ds3 face data#they clearly hated their job and wanted to go home soon :pensive:#but the vendetta against white hair is funny fgsfgds#what I look like when I bash Crow's white-haired anime favs lmao XDDDDDD

What backstory do you imagine for your Jadus?
thank you for the ask, anon. I wasn't sure whether to answer this or not after my self-doubt with my creativity.
but, I want to remind and emphasises that my version of Jadus are strictly canon divergent. some elements from canon ingame are also adopted into mines. but I'm afraid my ideas for characters are.... underwhelmingly undeveloped.
my design of Jadus (unmasked & masked). she/her and they/them pronouns.
Jadus is is half pureblood, half zeltron. Born as a legitimate and middle child to the Sith Emperor and an unnamed Zeltron bride. Their mother, alongside with two other brides, was unknowingly killed when they were a child. This makes Jadus one of the three Heirs with royalty blood but their gender was hidden from society (except Marr and Ania).
Jadus is also a (Force) Vampire. (rather than Eldritch horror being, sorry guys, I really tried but nothing screams out to me based on my preferences on what I looked for).
worth mentioning to above as a Vampire that one of their darkest ability was to force to drain the energy out of their opponent to channel their power or force them to feel exhausted and summon the shadow tendrils to restrain their opponents.
I headcanon them being a mixture of both Assassin and Sorcerer wielding double bladed lightsaber and mastering the skills of stealth, teleporting and shadow essences.
Spent their childhood and early adolescent years on Nathema. Why? Because dear old father fears them more than their sisters. The Sith Emperor was deeply afraid of their immense powers for a reason. It was revealed by the Servants that Jadus was considered the strongest Sith.
Jadus had more claim on the throne than their older sister, which caused a rift between Acina and Jadus as the two did not get along. Lachesis had tried, and again, get them to cooperate so they can dethrone their father altogether but Jadus knew better despite their claims they were not loyal to their father.
Their time on Nathema while growng up was... not pleasant. They were a victim of being subjected to tortures and abuse by Sith Overseers and zealots. There was implications that Jadus had killed a few of them after tapping into their dark powers.
A Sith oracle oversaw their trainings and encouraged them to embrace the darkness. Though, the only reason they had a pale skintone was due to the dark side corruption and exposure to Nathema's horrors, which had also enchanced their powers.
Transitioned with a top surgery before they became Darth Jadus.
Met Marr on the Sith Fortress while completeling their trainings. They two sorta became acquainted and known each others' identity.
Fast forward couple of years, Jadus had worked from within the shadows, favouring their time and attention on Intelligence. The Head of Imperial Intelligence had taken an interest in Jadus and choose them as their assistant. There, Jadus began to slowly plot and scheme against their father and his loyalists.
They ignored the suitors asking for their hand in marriage. Jadus killed them as the result of it. Though, many civilains and Siths were skeptical whether Jadus was married or not rumours despite Acina and Lachesis were married. // this was something I'm still debating about. if so, Jadus would had been put through Force Marriage by the Sith Emperor's doing by having the Dark Councillor for Imperial Intelligence as their spouse. Jadus was peeved about this. Though, the marriage was short lived.
Before Sacking of Coruscant, Jadus was approached by Overseer Ragate about a Sith tomb promising secrets and visions. Out of curiousity, Jadus went to seek out the tomb within the Korriban wilds. They soaked themselves in a bloodbath and received a vision that foretold them of a future that they claimed the Sith throne with a young sith hybrid agent with red hair by side supporting their ideals and goals to change the Empire.
Around the same time as Treaty of Coruscant formed and when Ania got accepted into Intelligence academy, Jadus poisoned the Dark Councillor, who was loyal to the Sith Emperor, and ascended a seat to the Dark Council. At this time, Jadus was distant with the Dark Council while also searching for the agent they saw in their vision.
five or seven years later, varying on my timeline revision, Jadus finally found Ania, being a new member of the Intelligence and analyise her, they secretly began to hand out assignments to Keeper reserved for her before they can meet her properly.
one of their hobbies was to attend Sith Opera and/or masquerade ball as a pasttime. They found.... comfort in it. we can't explain why.
cue the snippets I've written so far. Jadus became the tertiary main character of Imperial Agent and one of the legacy's main characters.
end. // this is as far i have got for them and my brain is mush on other details i'm missing.
... i hope this does the ask justice on the backstory I imagine for my Jadus. (sweats anxiously)
