I’M SO HAPPY! For multiple reasons - I lost over a pound even when I ate past my scheduled fasting time. I had greasy, fried leftovers from my bf’s parents’ place cuz I didn’t want it to go bad (it was so yummy), and then I had a few bites of gelato which made me bloated the rest of the night - so I was sure I would’ve gained from that. But I ate that magic sweet potato soup for breakfast, lunch, and dinner yesterday. I’m almost certain that soup is helping me lose weight cuz ain’t no way I would’ve lost if I ate my regular diet of eggs on toast and yogurt w/trail mix AND all that extra food last night.

I’m also happy, more so relieved, because the new kid is learning so quickly already. I was able to show him something once and then I had him take over and he went at it for the rest of the day on his own! Of course I stood there for a bit at first just to make sure he got the hang of it and in case he had any questions, but eventually I walked off and did my own thing. It feels good not having to baby someone the whole day 😭 Hopefully he learns everything else just as quickly! We need someone who knows how to work the press for days I’m out sick or on vacation.

I also need to talk to my boss about my raise and when I should be expecting it. He said he would group it into my yearly raise, but that isn’t until mid-September, and I’m taking on these extra tasks now, so should I get my raise now? Idk - I feel bad if I keep asking, but also I want to be compensated appropriately for the new work load that I’m taking on now 😣

I know yesterday I said I wasn’t going to look at anymore houses…but a new one was posted within our range when I was at work yesterday and I hit up my buyers agent asap to go take a look at it this weekend lol my bf is still butt-hurt over the last house we applied to and got rejected (because ppl are greedy and want over 300K for a tiny 1 bedroom), so to avoid getting his little man feelings all hurt again, he said he doesn’t want to go with me and look 🤪 men really are more emotional and sensitive than women. Like…it’s just a house. We’re obviously going to be applying for a cheap house along with hundreds of other ppl in our same situation. We just need to be patient. But that doesn’t mean stop looking until we have 70K saved up for a full down payment! Otherwise we won’t have a house until we’re in our 40’s 😭 My mom already offered to help us with a down payment, plus we don’t HAVE to put the full 20% down. But it seems like his listening ears stop working when I say stuff that makes sense - he just doesn’t want to hear it. Men. ☺️ Guess he’ll just have to deal with the house that I choose when I eventually put an offer on one and get accepted, all because he doesn’t want to be sad looking for the perfect house with me 🥺 poor thing 😔

ughh! i’m so so sorry your sister had to go through that :((( it really is so frustrating. i also haven’t been able to fully enjoy my vacation (or anticipating lolla peacefully either) bc even if i didn’t fully work things out, i was still stressing. i’m just frustrated bc nobody organized this well. i have a lil fault bc i could’ve reached out earlier but my professors or the program coordinators or whatever could’ve reached out to the supervisors and gathered all the info before just saying i was assigned to the center. they said there’d be other people but they didn’t tell me i was competing (they probs didn’t even know cuz they didn’t even communicate with the supervisors). idk, it’s a super red flag imo from all parts. i hope things do work out in the end. at least my professor said that if we can’t talk it out she’ll find me a new center (bc like i wanna leave so badly but i want my master’s bc if not all this suffering would have been for nothing🥲).

nonetheless, im so so so glad your sister’s internship came through but they handled it sooooo terribly. i feel for her so much. idk why people (especially if they take internships/practicums like wtf) don’t organize their shit!! but whatever, we ball. but it’s been so crazy lately. grad school has been too intense, where can i apply to place lip balm upon the lips of lee know? pls lmk

the move has been kinda stressy bc it’s been raining so badly here and we haven’t been able to clean the outside of the apartment 🥲 but we ballin too.

in terrible news, as we talk about lack of competence, tw: pet loss. as i was writing this message my bf said that the vet told him today that his senior family dog who was in surgery and had a leg amputation due to cancer had to be revived and was at the verge of death. which is so so so sad in itself. as a person that loves my animals more than anything, i would’ve taken the decision to put her down before the surgery but to each their own. but what really pisses me off is that the vet didn’t even do (or offer, in fact) to get her bloodwork done, knowing that she was high risk due to her age, condition and weight. the vet didn’t even do checked if she could survive before scheduling the surgery. and my bf’s parents were very naive and didn’t question it. and man, hate people that have lives in their hands and only care about money. this poor baby is still suffering there as of right now and it absolutely breaks my heart.

on a brighter note, my bf and i have a vinyl collection and i just ordered ateez’s the world ep.fin:will a few days ago. i’m really excited to get it. i’ve never seen a kpop vinyl irl and im really really interested in how it’ll look.

GOOD BYE 2020!

Hiya everybody! 

Well, this is the last blog for 2020. It’s been a rough year and I know I’m not the only one. 

Not going to lie, I am so HAPPY that it’s over. As I look back this year, it’s been a rocky road but it did have it’s wonderful moments. The BF spent six weeks in Alaska for work, only to come home and be stuck at home for 10 months, unable to go back to work. From January to May, I worked from home and it was awful. In March, the first couple of weeks were great working from home. After that, it was boring and I was losing my mind. Unable to go anywhere. Not even go to the gym to work out and keep my sanity. The week of Mother’s Day was by far the worst. Having a Zoom meeting with my manager along with HR to inform me that I was being furlough for two months along with no pay. As much as I was worried about money, the BF made things a little better. 

With a lot of convincing, we decided to take a trip to Colorado and spend a week and half with his brother and sister-in-law. We had a such a wonderful time. I took a lot of pictures, did a lot of hiking, and sight-seeing while we were there. The weather was absolutely amazing, and I kind of wish it was like that in Houston. Wishful thinking. During our drive home, we stopped in Oklahoma and spent a couple of days with my granddad. 

After our wonderful trip to Colorado, the BF surprised me with tickets to Alaska (roundtrip too!) for a couple of weeks. He flew up the weekend of Father’s Day for work reasons. At the end of June, I get a call from my manager informing me that with uncertainty with reopening the office, HR decided to extend my furlough another two months. So, we updated our plane tickets from two weeks to an entire month! I literally spent an entire month in Alaska, seeing things I NEVER thought I would be able to see. Moose, sea lions, sea otters, etc. Going fishing for pink salmon, red salmon, hailbut, rock fish, and trout. Oh, and seeing a grizzle bear 200 feet from us along with her two cubs. Meeting all of the BF’s friends and friends of the family who he grew up with. The weather was wonderful too. 

However as exciting as all this may sound, we wouldn’t be able to do all this with help. Also, trusting in God that he would take care of us. Take care of our struggles. We knew that we wouldn’t get an opportunity like this ever again, so we took it.

After doing wonderful trips all over the world, it was time to come home and settle. Money was starting to get tight. Still unable to go back to work for the both of us. However with luck and prayers, an opportunity came around the corner. My company came to me with a NEW job opportunity with better pay. Since October, I have been working FULL TIME and I can’t thank enough to them for giving me this chance to come back to work and bring home the bacon! Also, the BF flew back to Alaska to go back to work FINALLY along with better pay and with benefits a day after Christmas. I truly believe that 2021 is OUR year. Our year to shine. 

As we look forward to the New Year, I hope and pray that it’ll be better and hope that this STUPID COVID doesn’t halt any exciting opportunities. Such as wedding invitation, new babies being born, family vacations, etc. 

So with that being said... GOOD BYE 2020 AND HELLO 2021!!!

So you’ve pretty much become my go to for help in real life things bcos u give the greatest advice and wise master sage vibes. My older sister who’s in college (we hv a 6 yr age gap) got a bf and I felt really happy for her at first bcos he’s a actually a really good person. Awww! Well, to be clear, I don’t think I’m all that wise lol, but I hope I’ve learned a few life lessons that might help others. I also hope I keep learning them.

Well, congrats to your sis! But I definitely don’t think you’re just being clingy and dumb. It really is likely a situation where you both need to adjust: yes, she has someone new in her life and as a result he will take up more of the time she used to have for free before. It’s normal to feel a bit sad about that. With time (assuming the relationship lasts), these feelings will abate. 

However, it’s also the case sometimes that people overly invest in new relationships and neglect the relationships they already have. I don’t know your sister so I can’t say that this is the case for sure, but it definitely could be. Having a new relationship is exciting, but it’s important not to pour all your energy into only one relationship without clear communication to your other important relationships. I think if she hasn’t had many experiences in relationships, that’s also fairly normal--it really is about trying to find that balance, and it’ll take time for your sis. That said, that doesn’t make your feelings invalid or dumb. 

So, whether your sister is tipping too far into the side of ignoring others for her BF or not, I think my advice is the same: talk to her! She’s your sister, and it sounds like you two love each other. Your needs and wants are valid just as hers and her bf’s are. 

Plan out what you want to say to her (i.e. ask her “hey, can I talk to you later?” and maybe set a time). And then tell her how you’re feeling. These conversations can be tricky, though. Begin with (and stress) that you think her boyfriend is a good person and you’re happy for her. And then when you tell her how you feel, emphasize “I feel” statements, rather than “you do this” statements (the latter is accusatory and can put her on the defensive. For example, you might say, “I’m so happy you’re seeing a good guy; you deserve it! I just miss you a lot while you’re away and was hoping to spend more time with you while you’re home on vacation. Is there a way we can arrange to spend some time together one-on-one--maybe without phones?”). Emphasize what you want from her, not what you don’t want her to do (spending time with her vs. her ignoring you).

About planning to see each other

This is a topic I've been planning to talk about for a while but didn't exactly know how to approach the topic. But now that I just learned that my friend @thepurpleinternetprincess is gonna be seeing her love this coming summer, she just gave me the inspiration I needed to write about this!

So, obviously, when planning to see each other is a very exciting event. Doesn't matter if it's the first or 20th time your planning a trip, it's always very thrilling. BUT, it's also a very important and sometimes complicated thing to do, that's why, when we start planning a trip we really gotta think about every single detail through.

First, think about all the factors affecting your life: if you live with your parents (my case), or if you have your own place, if you're gonna be working/studying during the planned dates or you will be in vacation, think about when you will have enough free days to really enjoy your time together, if they can stay at your place (or your parents), if not, where, what activities will you do with them, how about food, etc.

There are many things to think about than just looking for a good date and buying the airplane tickets. Obviously, looking for cheap airplane tickets is a whole other important and most times hard thing to do (I'll probably talk about this in another post), but other important things to think about is what they will do during their stay and how to take care of them.

Sure, some of you may live in the same country, but some of you may be from totally different countries. When inviting your loved one to your country you really gotta make them feel welcomed and not worry about anything. Yes, it can be scary going to a whole new country to meet someone you met online, but if everything (or most things) work then you can get through it.

First of all, one of the most important things to think about before purchasing the first airplane ticket you see is the timing. I might be stating the obvious but I'll still say it, the best times to travel are summer and winter, or at least whenever both of you are free for at least a week. Yes, summer and winter are high season times and the plane tickets are expensive. But you know, at least for the first couple of times seeing each other, it's worth it!

Deciding where they'll be staying is a very important detail. If you're living with your parents you'll obviously need to ask them for permission. If they refuse, although it'll make things harder, you can still work it out. You'll have to have them stay at a cheap local motel or something similar. Obviously, we don't want them to have to spend any unnecessary extra money, so I'd recommend that you help pay for their stay if necessary. It's only a nice thing to do. Regarding this part, I know how it can be with unsupportive parents, but believe me, when they see your partner is literally going the extra mile just to be there with you, they'll see they're really committed and I'm sure next time they visit they'll let them stay at the house.

Oh and another thing, if you're seeing each other for the first (couple of) times, don't expect either of your parents to let you sleep in the same bed xD I mean, if the parents let you then you're just fine! But I'm just saying, in most cases, that doesn't happen. It took my parents a long time before they let my BF sleep with me xD

Moving on, if you're on the receiving end, the one welcoming them, you really need to think about a schedule. Write at least the general ideas of what you will do with them from the moment you pick them up at the airport. And that's another thing, will you pick them up or have them come to you through some other transportation. But back to the activities, you can plan these together beforehand so you can make the most of your trip, or if you'd rather just chill and do everything randomly and unexpectedly then that's fine too!

Yes, I know planning trips can be hectic, but believe me, it gets better. Once you and your partner figure out what works best for both of you you'll be doing all this very easily and wanting to make more trips per year! I've already become a pro at purchasing plane tickets. Also, becoming a member of a specific airline really helps and will come in handy in the future as you accumulate miles!

So, these are just a couple of ideas and tips to take in mind when you are planning a trip, be it your first or 10th trip, thinking about all these factors is very important. I might talk more about some things like how and where to find cheap plane tickets and the sort. The other hand though, the staff who work at the park are often involved in whale and dolphin rescue around the north coast and are often the ones out on the beaches all night helping beached whales (along with the surfers). sitting in my small studio apartment on a sunday, and it’s raining out. getting used to actually expecting rain frequently vs. in LA where we’d rarely have to do a raincheck. i still feel like i’m in a slump, but trying to push myself to be more active. i think i’m burnt out from my current lifestyle. traditionally, most people refer to being burnt out from their jobs. but i think i’m feeling burnt out by not having much of a work/life balance. doing the 95% of the household management/cooking on top of a full-time job, and not having a good way to de-stress (b/c lack of quality time with partner, still budding friendships, and being far away from family and LA friends) is finally getting to me. i miss my family T.T and having the comfort of a family. 

i again revisited this conversation with matt and mentioned how spoiled he has become. i’m starting to see my mom in myself. my mom’s very proactive in the household and is very nurturing, sometimes overly nurturing. for example, she’ll always pack me a bunch of food every time i go on a flight. she always made dinner for me when i was working. besides my own room, she took care of cleaning everything else in the house. and i know she is happy to do this as long as i’m good to her. i was happy to take care of matt too, until he started taking it for granted and demanding more. this past weekend, we got into a fight after i brought up the imbalance in our relationship and the majorly differing expectations we have of each other. he’s currently on two weeks of night shifts so, again, never a good time to have a discussion like this. i got a whiteboard to write out his exact chores and now have implemented a “punishment” if he doesn’t do them - he’ll have to do his own laundry LOL. hopefully this new method is helpful... i’m so looking forward him progressing onto his third year of residency (oct 2021), because it means he should have more free time.

they say when times are tough, to try and remember who they were pre-residency. sometimes it’s difficult to remember. sometimes all i see is an always exhausted and stressed out grump who is miserable. the only things we do for “fun” is play ubereats/caviar/seamless (we actually get very good deals for food)/pick up food, sometimes workout, and watch movies. we live in one of the most fun cities in the US but can’t use it to our advantage right now.

i’ve decided to not to be cheap and give therapy a try via kaiser. next step is to call in to make an appointment.

had a really nice day at the park yesterday with my bumble girls. it’s such a nice feeling to just sit on the grass and absorb all the sunshine, something i took for granted in LA. also, it was refreshing to be around less miserable/not miserable people (or at least people who need to put on a front)

planning to go on a hike with bumble girls at the end of the month. now we have a total of 9 girls (incl me) in our group chat.

had a somewhat fun weekend with matt when he was on easier rotations last weekend (although he wasn’t fully relaxed, bc he had a test and an upcoming 2 months of hell)

will work on being more brave/not letting the anti-asian american hate paranoia get to me. will remind myself that this has always existed, it’s just getting more media attention now. all i can do is be vigilant, but it shouldn’t stop me from living life

we had our first guest at my apartment, S! i made her a latte and breakfast. i’m also very grateful to have met her and she seems to be a solid friend.

update: very spontaneously invited my parents to NYC next month and they are down. i booked plane tickets and chinese tour spots immediately. it’ll be my mom’s first time ever on the east coast, and my dad’s first time visiting in 30+ years. we will be going on a similar chinese tour that i did by myself but with the addition of niagara falls. i’m so excited and happy. gabe and his bf daryl will also come visit sometime in the next two months! mae & husband supposedly said they will aim for july/aug (but this i’m not too certain about bc she tends to be flaky on trip plans lol). 

i’m so looking forward to spending time with my parents and have friends visit. my soul has warmed up because of this lol.

1. Which book has been on your shelves the longest? Uhm. Uhm. That’s... a hard... question... but I think the collection of Irish fairytales I really was into when I was like seven? I probably have older stuff than that but not on my shelves (it’d be stored somewhere) and not that I re-read at this point.

2. What is your current read, your last read and the book you’ll read next? The current read is Stuart Kaminsky’s The Howard Hughes Affair in the Toby Peters series because I need light reading and twenty-four books of down on his luck PI in Hollywood in the forties always dealing with old hollywood cinema stars is exactly what I need for light reading.

Last read: it was the previous in those series, You Bet Your Life, or if you don’t count that it was some medieval history book.

Next read: I’d like for it to be Stephen and Owen King’s Sleeping Beauties but it’s most likely gonna be either roman history or medieval history, again. Or possibly the fifth in that series but it’s really quick reading so. xD

3. Which book does everyone like and you hated? I’m gonna almost quote Damien who said P&P (which I...uh... don’t like lol) and say Emma which is still the Most Insufferable Thing I Ever Read In My Entire Life. P&P is less insufferable but I don’t get the fascination and mist likely never will.

Hmmm, lots I guess, but Different Seasons was the summer when I turned fifteen and it definitely changed my life for the better and I always remember it fondly, same for The Three Musketeers and the 2006 summer which was.. an interesting time I guess xD, latin/greek epics will forever be tied with my father for better or worse and french authors with my mom aaaand beat generation stuff definitely reminds me of my best friend from high school and I could probably say that while I never read hp it also reminds me of people I was better off without so that’s probably another reason why I hate it but never mind that xDDDDD

16. Stephen King: Literary genius or opiate of the masses? Guys. Guys. While I’m the first person who wouldn’t say King is the new Proust, and while there’s a lot of things I dislike about the way he does things (first of all how much he loves his PEOPLE FORGETTING EVERYTHING trope)....

a) when I read Different Seasons I was in a moment where I had fallen out of love with reading stuff for reasons and it brought it back full spades; b) he was the first author I read in english and 90% the person that influenced my writing style more for those reasons; c) he’s a genius at crafting characters/character work/character development way more than a lot of people critics enjoy more than him and since I’m a character driven whore put two and two together; d) he came up with my Favorite Fictional Character Ever (whose surname is half of my tumblr nickname/internet nickname anywhere so...) and with my Favorite Ship Ever and my Favorite Series Ever and a lot of my Favorite Things Ever; e) he’s exceedingly good at his genre and while his endings are shit 70% of the time when he nails it he nails it;

tldr: he might not be the Greatest Writer Ever but he’s my Subjectively Favorite Writer Ever for bad and for good and no one disrespects king in front of me okay? k. I owe his damned books enough to repay how much they made me suffer xD
