what's your favorite thing about yurisere?

Anon, I have am SO sorry this was sitting in my inbox since May and I never saw it until now. For some reason, I don't get notifications for asks... ;-;

Anyway, it's hard to pinpoint what my favorite thing about yurisere is, just because there's so many things about it I do like. I love the blue-girl-pink-boy aesthetic (moreso purple in Yuri's case) and think they look really good together. I love how versatile the ship is; you can examine all the gaps canon left and piece together different paths in which their relationship would develop all according to their personalities. I love their similarities and differences as individuals and how those would come together. They can go between bitter and sweet depending on the time. Amongst other things, of course.

But if I had to choose a favorite, it would probably be how their respective backstories form their dynamic as a ship. Them growing up on a restrictive island together yet never knowing the other because a third party kept them separated, and likewise, deeming Serena too precious and Yuri too dangerous for them to ever be with each other. I'm a huge sucker for that forbidden element! And that backstory has caused the both of them to have a "gap", so to speak. An area of their life that isn't quite filled. It's more obvious that Yuri would have turned out very different if he had someone who never feared and hated him, but it's less acknowledged that Serena would also have someone recognize her strengths and give her a true challenge (and possibly distract her from constantly vying for Leo's attention :0). Serena is pretty fearless and Yuri likes giving out praise, so it stands to reason that they would fill those "gaps" in each other. And if you go the enemies to lovers route, you get to see them realize what they've been missing their whole lives, which I really like.

Also, they're hot and unbeatable together and it'd be good to see them fall in love. That's the easy, shallow answer, lol.

What are some things you are thankful for?

I am thankful to have a path to follow and to be actively working toward a new goal. I'm also thankful for my friends, and those who have supported me in this pursuit.

kids being into how the internet looked twenty years ago when they should be all about how it operated. and i bet some of them are idk what the kids do. but i want them to be louder about ways we can try to take the web back from the three companies that homogenized it and control everything. resurrect soulseek and message boards. like i just think you are kinda #missingthepoint listening to spotify and posting geocities aesthetic on insta (and old people do this too). old people doing it is worse bc the kids weren't born so how could they know what made it great. which is why we need elderly girls like me to make posts like this one. but i love that y'all think it looked cool bc so do i. let me tell you all about my gurlpages website and bolt.com and deliver my comprehensive evaluation of livejournal and its predecessors. consult my colleagues for answers about myspace bc i knew that shit was a bad idea from the beginning and i was right.

i had a dream that time travel was invented and too many people choose to travel back in time to save the titanic from sinking (the question of whether unsinking of the titanic deserved so much attention in the face of human history was the subject of both heavy academic and online discourse), which caused a rift in the space-time-continuum that led to the titanic showing up indiscriminately all over the world’s oceans and sea in various states of sinking.

this caused a lot of issues both in terms of fixing said space-time-continuum and in terms of nautical navigation, and after a long and heavy battle in the international maritime organization it was decided that the bureaucratic burden of dealing with this was to be upon Ireland, much to their dismay. the Irish Government then released an app for all sailors and seafarers so they could report titanic sightings during their journeys, even though they heavily dissuaded you from reporting them given the paperwork it caused.

anyway i woke up with a clear image of the app in my head and needed to recreate it for all of you:

As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

When I was a kid my family pretended to get raptured so I would think I was left behind on earth while they all went to heaven.

I was like 8 years old and my sister and mom had gotten really into the Left Behind novels (bible fan fic about the rapture). In the books when the rapture happened the clothes that people were wearing when they got raptured were left behind in neatly folded piles.

One day when I was getting home from school my family decided that they would leave piles of neatly folded clothes around the house, and then hide in the basement.

The intended effect was that I would get home and see the clothes then, think that my family had been raptured and that I wasn’t good enough to get into heaven… or something?

The problem was that I had never read these books, and didn’t really think about the rapture very often. There was no reason that I would see some laundry on the floor and think “The rapture happened and I’ve been abandoned by God! I’ll never see my family again!! Oh nooo!!!!”

I just sat down and watched cartoons and eventually my family got bored and revealed that they were all hiding in the basement.

It’s a good thing I didn’t understand the joke, otherwise that shit would have been traumatic.
