As gen-AI becomes more normalized (Chappell Roan encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use gen-AI because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by tech companies. I draw not because I want a drawing but because I love the process of drawing. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

I went into a store today that I can only explain as "the return depot for last month's tiktok momfluencer trends"

more than half the store was giant displays of YETI cups (mostly barbie pink). there was a bunch of makeup "formulated FOR KIDS!!" called "No Nasties" (gotta start that clean vs dirty moralizing and fearmongering early ya know), a bunch of ~*~aesthetic~*~ useless shit and Kate Spade notebooks and pens (do you know the median household income in this region? no one is spending $38 on a fucking Kate Spade notebook when they can go to dollarama or walmart), lots of ~*~aesthetic~*~ toys & leftover christmas** decor for sad beige children and their vanilla girl #mamabears

(**I think it was christmas decor? I assume the de-saturated sage green triangles on the white & beige bobble garland were meant to be d christmas trees, but they were just so bland and sad that it was hard to tell)

if that's your thing, great, you do you, but WHY would you put this store in the middle of butt fuck nowhere where your target customer does not live and is most likely struggling to stay above the poverty line, while the people who can afford to shop there are, like, 80? it was a 30 minute drive so that's about halfway between Povertytown and Richboomerville. If we didn't need eclipse glasses, we wouldn't have had a reason to go out there (last time we went to that area was in October)

the store is going out of business (shocker) and the owner is a serial entrepreneur of Mommy & Me type business that keep failing because there's no market for them.

either open these businesses where there is a market, or join facebook or w/e groups for your target demos, find out what THEY want/need, what THEY think the gaps in the market are, and then do that. or else you're just going to keep failing.
