Buck is Eddie's special friend
—And he's never had one of those before, so the lines between what should be romantic and what should be friendly-intended blur.
Buck is Eddie's special friend who a few months into meeting him praised his parental abilities, though his parents have always criticised him for it —the way he always seems to be dragging Chris down, by his mother's word. And Eddie believes him, because Buck knows a thing or two about parenting styles, and he got the short end of the stick before being born.
Buck is Eddie's special friend, who a few months into meeting him decided to follow Bobby's advice given when Abby was around, and stepped in to help instead of looking from the sidelines. Buck involved Carla into Eddie's life; past merging with future. And Eddie accepted the help though he doesn't usually. Eddie doesn't have any reasons why he should trust Buck, but Buck seems to know a thing or two about life, and they promised to have each other's back's —Buck looks at Eddie with hope that he never had for himself, and Eddie feels it to. There's hope for him after all.
Buck is Eddie's special friend, who he entrust with his child a year into their friendship. Who his child adores. Who he has no reason not to trust because Buck has always had Eddie's best interests.
Buck is Eddie's special friend because 'having a child is like wearing your heart on your sleeve', and : "There's nobody in this world I trust with my son more than you". And Buck is Eddie's special friend because : "Do you know how Christopher misses you? How could you? You're not around."
Buck is Eddie's special friend, because he doesn't see Christopher as an extension of Eddie. And in consequence Buck might as well be Christopher own's special friend, too : "Buck?" "Yeah ?" "You're a great friend"
Buck is Eddie's special friend, who watched as the life escaped from arms reach after giving someone else a second chance. He's the friend that crawled his way to him, who saved his life, who pressed on his wounds. —Not for the first time. And, "Are you hurt?" despite the fact that he was dying.
Buck is Eddie's special friend when he stayed with Christopher after the shooting. When the team didn't feel the same way after the shooting. When he made himself a target because he was the one watching his friend get shot standing there not being able to do anything to stop it.
Buck is Eddie's special friend when the latter made him his son's legal guardian in case something were to happen to him. —And didn't tell him for a year, just 'Because, Evan. (...) You think you're expendable, but you're wrong.'
Buck is Eddie's special friend when he goes out of his way to show Eddie how much of what they do is worth it. When he can set his questionable ways aside, and talk sense into him, because : "That's not how you talk about someone you're in love with." & "Is that enough?" are things just special friends do.
Buck is Eddie's special friend because when Buck died, Eddie forgot he'd been struck by lighting himself and ran up to get Buck off the rope. Because Eddie was asked to drive the ambulance because he was just too close, they were just that kind of special friends. Because : "Do more!"
And Buck is Eddie's, in a way no one was been. Because Buck is there when Christopher flees the first time —seeking for a friend, in a place he knows won't reject him. And is there when Christopher leaves the second time, to a place Eddie feels refejcetd.
Eddie is Buck special friend then, —When Buck runs away from his loft to sough comfort in Eddie's home. When Eddie let's him rest, is patience with him, gives him space to open up.
Eddie is Buck's special friend in the same way if not more than Buck is Eddie's. Because Eddie is ready to drop everything the moment Buck asks. Because that's what you do for special friends.
Because Eddie's speech about him not knowing his sister the way Chim does is reversible to them. Because Maddie knows Evan, but she doesn't know Buck, Eddie's special friend.
Eddie is Buck's special friend, because Eddie wants to go treasure haunting with him —it just so happens that Taylor is there. And he wants to play dress up with him —it just so happens that Tommy is there.
Eddie is Buck's special friend, because he's been wary of every person that's broken Buck's heart.
And Eddie is Buck's special friend when he's the friend called to talk to Buck at the hospital after Maddie is kidnapped by Doug. Because Eddie understands, because there's never been a time as angry as Eddie was where Buck didn't feel understood.
Because "That's all you ever see" translates to that's all he ever thinks about. And how pledged is his mind with images of Buck, how much he needs Buck, how present Buck is in his life. A missing piece that he wants and wants and wants. It's been Buck. BuckandChris.
Eddie, Buck; Eddie and Buck. EDDIEANDBUCK.
They're special friends because "We should bring this party to the couch"
"We?"
—And a smile. So haunting, so endearing. So understanding of what it means to be BuckandEddie.

BuckTommy Fluffebruary: Day 3
~Spiderman kiss~
The call was simple - just a man stuck in his apartment who needed to be freed. But today was clearly not Buck's day. He volunteered to be the one to go straight up to the victim, but once the crane was up to the right height, Buck secured himself with ropes and started to descend, but a cracking sound was heard and the ropes stopped moving.
Buck tugged at the ropes and tried to fix the problem, but it only got worse: he got tangled in the ropes, hanging at a tremendous height, one of the ropes slipped out of his hands, wrapped around his legs, and Buck flipped violently in the air. Now he was hanging upside down by the windows of the building, trying to radio for help.
“Tommy, stop!” - He heard Chim yell down below. - “We need a second lifter to get you to him!”
“I'll be faster myself!” - Buck hears the dear voice.
Not a few minutes pass before Tommy appears on the loggia between floors, right in front of him. Hanging upside down makes Buck a little dizzy, but he's so happy to see Tommy.
“Not a day without an adventure, huh?” - Tommy jokes, a softness in his voice. Buck only smiles embarrassedly.
“Come here,” Tommy pulls him to him, their faces coming into contact with each other. Tommy lifts his head slightly and touches Buck's lips with his lips. Buck's lips are unusually upturned, and Tommy smiles at the strange sensation in the kiss.
“...Now how about you help me get free of this thing!?” - Buck says too agitatedly as they pull away from each other. Buck's cheeks have turned red and Tommy knows for sure it's not from hanging upside down. Shouts and hooting can be heard from below. Tommy knows their friends will never leave it alone. @bucktommyfluffebruary
Day 3 is done, and it was not an easy one! Hope you like it 💕

🐤 Bathena 💀💀💀💀
And!!
🎃 BuckTommy
🫶🫶🫶🫶
Hi Becca!! Thank youuuu for the prompts, these were so much fun!!!
---
🐥 for Bathena (I'll admit this one gave me pause hehe, so I hope you like what I came up with!!)
The noise of the karaoke bar is deafening, but Bobby’s having a lot of fun. He’s laughing as he sips his club soda and watches as Tommy and Buck come down from the stage after signing an actually very soft rendition of what Hen informed Bobby was a High School Musical song. And now Chimney is trying to convince Bobby to sing, which is. Not gonna happen. He doesn’t sing in public, and there is nothing or no one who can make him change his mind.
Well, except for one person, and Chimney probably knows that. "Athena!" Chim exclaims when he spots her and Maddie coming back from the restroom. "Will you tell your husband he has to sing? He’s the only one who hasn’t!”
Athena raises an eyebrow at Bobby, and he gives her an unimpressed look. She sits down by his side, taking a sip of her wine, and shrugs at Chimney.
“Don’t bother, Chim. I don’t think there’s much we can do if my husband’s too much of a chicken to sing out in public.”
There’s a collective ‘ooooohhhh’ going around the table, and all of his team, plus Maddie, Tommy and Karen, are smirking at Bobby. He feels his cheeks blush, and he raises an eyebrow at Athena, crossing his arms.
“‘Chicken’? Really?” He says, and Tommy and Chim snicker at each other.
“Are you gonna pull a Marty McFly, Cap? The whole ‘nobody calls me a chicken’ thing?” Tommy snarks, and Buck and Eddie start making silly chicken noises. But before they can do it for too long, Athena raises a finger at them, giving them the look. The pair of them stop immediately, looking like properly chastised children.
“First of all, back off. He’s my chicken.” Athena says, kissing his cheek, and she manages to make it sound like a good thing. Then she smirks at him. “But you know how to make them stop, baby.”
Bobby looks at her, then at the microphones, then back at her. And with Athena smiling at him like that, her beautiful eyes looking at him filled with love and joy despite her teasing, singing in public doesn’t seem so terribly scary anymore.
“How about we make a duet out of it?” He suggests, and she laughs at first, but then realizes he’s serious. She smiles amazed at him.
“Are you for real?”
“Unless you don’t wanna sing with a chicken?” He teases, and she rolls her eyes, pressing a kiss to his lips.
“C’mon, chicken. Let’s show this children how it’s done”
(Bucktommy under the cut!)
- 🎃
It's a matter of revenge, really. Eddie had the audacity to say Buck and Tommy were sappy just because they had a little 'No, you hang up' moment during their mutual 48-hour shifts. So, as the little shits they are, they decide they are sappy, that's their thing now. And that they're going to be ridiculously sappy next time they have Eddie over. "Want a beer, Eddie?" Tommy asks from the kitchen, watching as Eddie and Evan keep trying to overtake each other on Mario Kart.
"Yeah, thanks man!" Eddie says distractedly, and Tommy smirks to himself, figuring out how he can get his boyfriend to win.
"And you, Pumpkin?" He asks, his voice as sugary as possible.
It works, too; Eddie drops his controller, looking at them with his mouth agape. Evan, already knowing Tommy had something like this in mind, just smirks and crosses the finish line. Then, he bats his eyelashes at Tommy. "Absolutely, Pumpkin, you're the best" He says, making kissy noises, and Eddie stares between the two of them. "...I hate you both" He grumbles, and Tommy and Evan smirk at each other. The trouble is: they aren't quite able to stop there. At first they only called each other 'Pumpkin' in front of Eddie, but one day, it's just the two of them at home, and Tommy is distracted with a book, so he barely notices what he's saying. "Pumpkin, can you take the trash out?" He says, and Evan stops in his tracks.
It takes Tommy a while to notice he's standing in front of him, a small smirk playing on his face. He frowns at his boyfriend. "What?" "Nothing." Evan says, and then places a kiss on his cheek. "Pumpkin." It's only then that Tommy realizes what he saids, and he can't help but laugh. He pulls Evan down so he lies on his lap, both trash and book forgotten for the moment, and Tommy kisses him. "For the record, I blame Eddie" He clarifies, and Evan laughs, kissing the tip of his nose. "Me too, pumpkin." He teases, and Tommy pinches his arm in retaliation. Evan squirms away with a laugh. "But... you know what? It's kinda cute." "It is." Tommy easily agrees. "We are pretty cute, aren't we, pumpkin?"
"We are." Evan nods resolutely, kissing Tommy soundly. "I love you, pumpkin." "I love you too." Tommy says. -- Becca I really hope you like those, baby! I tried to do something different for the ideas! Ily ♥♥

Watching the Credits - Chapter Two
BuckTommy, Chapter Two - 3,880 words, Rated T
Tommy was a big mega star. Tommy's cool. Tommy has a Wikipedia page! Buck doesn't think his ego could handle being friend dumped by someone like Tommy. He should just cut his losses and run now. "I should just cut my losses and run now," He tells Eddie. "You won't get paid if you leave before shooting's over," Eddie offers. Buck hits him again. --- In today's chapter, our leads have matching crises, fruit as improvised weapons, and Ravi makes the world's briefest cameo.
Tommy's a whole different person on camera.
Watching him now, Buck easily sees how he made it a whole week on set without realizing who their lead actually was. The guy currently standing on the sound stage is not the same guy Buck was talking to an hour ago.
Even between takes, the difference is stark; harsher. Tommy's all straight lines, suave, composed, untouchable. There's no sign of the scrunchy smile and goofy chatter from earlier. Buck thinks it's perfectly reasonable he didn't recognize him, no matter how hard Eddie and Chim had laughed at him over the crafty table earlier. This guy on set right now could be a stranger.
A movie star.
A movie star who wants to get drinks after they wrap today.
Oh god.
"What am I going to do," Buck laments to Eddie, glad he hasn't drifted much further from the craft table than he usually does. Buck asked him about it once, wondering if Security wasn't needed in more, you know, important areas, and Eddie had just shrugged. Buck's can't really blame the guy, if it's one thing that can be said for 118 Productions, they don't skimp on the food.
"I dunno, man, maybe if you ever learn to stop looking at the camera Bobby will actually let you stay in shot for once," Eddie says mildly. Buck whacks him with the back of his hand.

i need eddie to get another guy friend in season 8, and buck loses his shit about it (again), so he breaks up with t because he's convinced that the weird feeling he gets when he sees them together is because he is Really attracted to the new guy.
#like things with t are fine cuz he likes exploring this new side of himself even if t doesnt always match his energy but whatever its fun#and maybe at work chim is the one who brings up eddies new friend and he is immediately just. what new friend?#chim laughs and says. tbf last time eddie got a new friend you attacked him so you could date his friend. hes probably keeping it to himsel#and bucks like. dude what. that was. yeah it was shitty of me but it was a one time thing. i wont do it again...#and when eddie shows up for shift buck immediately asks about his new friend and eddie tells him about the guy without hesitation#after shift tho buck is like. why didnt you tell me about him? after t i get why you dont want to but im just. you dont have to worry man.#buck. i know. im not worried. anyway he and i are gonna head to a bar to catch the game. you want to come with? you can bring t if hes free#oh. thats. thatd be okay? i dont want to idk ruin the vibe by bringing a date#nah man. itll be fine#and so he and t go to the bar and eddies already inside with the new friend and its Fine. its Great actually because t gets along with eddi#and the new guy and the new guy makes eddie laugh and doesnt miss a beat and knows more about the teams record this season than buck and#buck is doing Fine. this guys smile is big and his eyes are bright and when he laughs he sorta leans into eddies space alittle and its Fine#the night ends and buck and t go back to his apartment and buck cant stop thinking about that guys hand when it clapped down on eddies#shoulder or the look on his face as he teased eddie about the beer he drinks (cuz its kinda bad but only buck can say that) and buck Cant.#he wants that guy. he wants his hands and grin and teasing voice all to himself and not on eddie.#so he breaks up with t and ts confused af cuz i thought things were going good?#yeah. i just. i want to explore my options yk now that ive uh figured out i like men.#and its a clean break. not dramatic or messy. t tells him to call if he every changes his mind. buck wont.#bucks trying to not pry about eddies new friend and he doesnt grill eddie or anyone and just waits and listens to all the new info he gains#and eventually eddie invites him out to watch another game because whatever team they were watching made it to the playoffs#and when he gets there eddies like. no t tonight?#nah we. uh. we broke up.#eddie says sorry man that sucks. and the new guy is like. honestly he didnt even seem that into you which what an idiot. youre great.#and its good because the new guy splits his attention between the two of them now. eddie isnt the only one getting hands and grins and eyes#and the third time theyre at the bar the guy follows him to bathroom and kisses him hard against the door before pulling back with a#panicked sorry and leaving and when buck finds eddie after hes like. what happened? new guy ran out of here without even saying goodbye#he kissed me in the bathroom. i think uh. i think he was kinda freaking out about it and thats why he left.#and eddie just blinks at him before being like. buck. buck you said you werent going to do this again.#i didnt mean to! and buck means it. he just saw the way that guy made eddie laugh and put his hands on eddie and had eddies attention and#oh.

I'm rewatching 911 and I just got to 4x04 and I had to pause and laugh at the fact the bomber (stan I think??) had a whole bomb and was alone in the basement fully intending to blow the building up, yet was still masked, and kept the mask on until he started having a asthma attack. like genuinely love that for him but it made me fucking cry with laughter
#911 fox#honestly that entire scene just made me laugh and is one of the most unserious scenes on the show in my opinion#like them constantly cutting back and forth between the team outside seriously discussing chim being in danger and how to save him#and chim and stan just gossiping about the Buckley Family Trauma(tm) that is daniel#and then after when they're wheeling stan into the ambo and seeing bucks turn out and being like omg it's true!! you're buck!!#and buck just being soo confused#and chim being the most unsubtle shoving stan in the ambo as quickly as possible and talking over him#like just soo unserious#which is wild considering it's a scene about a suicide bomber essentially

Found this in my drafts and decided to finish it up, written before the Abby reveal so we're just pretending that never happened, have some outsider pov of the alt timeline where Tommy and Buck met before Buck was at the 118.
Tommy is being weird. That's the only way Hen can describe it. He's been quiet on calls, none of the usual banter and posturing she's used to; he's been quiet in the station, prone to staring at the space between his lap and the dinner table even as Chim spouts off some ironic quote that would have had him cheesing it up a few weeks previous; he's been quiet as he packs his shit and heads out for his truck. Each afternoon since he'd quietly announced his transfer to the 217, he's been quiet, and it's weird.
Hen's not entirely surprised. Tommy's nothing if not protective of his own feelings - years and years of Gerrard all hanging over their heads even though he'd admitted a few drinks deep one night that he was pretty positive his professionally scathing complaint about Gerrard was very likely what tipped the scales ("Could have been Sal's, though," he'd said with a shrug as his eyes drifted to the head on his beer.). From what she's gleaned off Chim, there's a good chance he'd been an ass in part to protect himself from feeling too bad about losing someone, too (again) - not that that's any type of excuse for the shit he'd had a hand in putting her through. An excuse for the things he's said, in the heat of the moment, in the quiet caverns of life under a shitty captain.
(Stumbled apologies, serious expressions on a face softened only by the shots he'd been buying all night, words said and unsaid between them and the gaping maw between a Chim happy to accept and move on while Hen downed her tequila and waited for the other shoe to drop.)
It's been years since then. Years and years winding between them all, a dozen captains and more than a few transfers of good firefighters away from the 118, and something good and warm and special brewing in their house with the arrival of the captain who'd made family dinners a daily occurrence.
She'd sort of expected Tommy might finally open up, when those family dinners kept going and Nash kept staying and things started to settle into something closer to friendly instead of the soldiers of war camaraderie they'd grown so used to. And maybe he has, to someone who isn't Hen - who'd taken his little efforts to change at face value and refused to put in more work than that for a colleague who'd made mostly bare minimum efforts post-Gerrard, always accepting the new status quo, refusing to make waves. She respects Tommy. Trusts him on the job, and sometimes off of it when they've had a shitty shift and need to decompress before they go home to the people in their lives who can never really understand losing someone to the heat of a fire, to blood loss and blunt force trauma. Doesn't care for him the way Chim seems to, doesn't really desire a closer relationship than the one they've maintained through the turnover of captains and the 48's they pull on occasion.
But Tommy's being weird, and Hen's pretty sure she's the only one who sees it.
She waits until she's sure Chim has a date to hit up Tommy for an after shift drink, and his eyes crinkle around the corners in suspicion because he knows just as well as she that she's putting them in an awkward position without the buffer zone of an extra coworker to fill in the blank spots of the things they don't say to each other. He'll be gone in a week. There's not a single fucking reason for her to try to get to know him better now.
"Sure thing, Wilson," he says, and when he offers to drive them both Hen makes up some excuse about needing her car in case of some Denny related emergency.
---
She expects it to take a while. Ply him with a few drinks, figure out what it is about Howie that always puts Tommy at ease so quickly when they're out like this and try to replicate it - he keeps things close to the vest but Hen has ways of weaseling things out of people once she's got them where she wants them.
Tommy sighs and picks at the label on his bottle. Thins his lips, and stares at her sideways. "I'm seeing someone," he says, in an undertone, and Hen hasn't even taken her first sip from the bottle he'd ordered for her, too, while she scrounged up one of the smaller booths. His eyes dart, like he's checking to make sure no one else is listening, that no one here recognizes him, and Hen - Hen knows that look. She just can't square that look with Mr. Toxic Heterosexuality himself.
Hen takes a sip. Forces herself not to vibrate out of her own skin because - because - because she's gotta wait this shit out. Could be he's found himself attracted to some weird goth chick, or a woman with meat on her bones, in which case he's in for a big ole smack to the head or one of the looks she reserves for when the boys get a little too caught up in their locker room talk.
He darts his gaze up. Meets hers, steady on, for the first time in...weeks, actually, now that she's thinking about it, and the guilt there in his eyes sure is something to behold.
"He's younger," Tommy says, and Hen rolls her tongue over her teeth so she doesn't do something stupid like hone in on that pronoun with either glee or full-on righteous anger.
Hen narrows her eyes instead, and is surprised that he keeps her gaze. She's expecting - unnecessary contrition, or maybe a ducked head or excuses. He chews on the inside of his lip and chuffs out a self deprecating laugh.
"I don't have a fucking clue what I'm doing and he still lives in a frat house."
Hen's mind goes somewhere inappropriate, and she has to stop herself from making a truly horrible hand gesture because he can't possibly mean -
He rolls his eyes. "I know where to stick it, Wilson, that's not the issue."
She has about half a million questions queueing - things she's not sure they're close enough to ask, things she doesn't actually want the answer to but stick there in the back of her mind anyway, things she'd never ask someone who'd been kind to her from the outset. "How'd you do it?" he asks, and Hen remembers the way he'd stood, arms crossed and face blank and something sad and vulnerable in his face while she lectured from her red and chrome pulpit. Jesus. He's known. He's known a while.
"I've never exactly been passing," she tells him, and winces at the aggression in her voice, in that statement, in the very existence of the idea. He shoots her a bitchy look that's far more familiar, in line with their normal dynamic. It has her rolling her shoulders back, has her sitting up a little more in her seat. "Is that - are you asking me how to come out?"
Tommy shrugs. Tips his head. "You're the one who wanted to get drinks."
"And if I hadn't asked?"
She knows the answer. The dumbass would have transferred out of the 118 with no one the wiser. Probably fallen off all the group chats, squared with himself for however long it took, decided one way or another who to tell from there. But he's here now, talking to Hen. Telling Hen, the person he's probably the least close to.
Hen sighs. Takes a longer drag off her beer this time while Tommy folds up a piece of the label he's ripped off. She's not gonna be his fucking gay guru. They're not anywhere approaching that close.
He could have lied, though, is the thing. Seems like he's maybe been lying for a while, if the uncharacteristic fidgeting is anything to go by. She knows him under stress, knows him when he's walking through literal fire. Figurative fire is an entirely different matter. She doesn't know that Tommy.
The words that fall out of her mouth aren't the ones she's aiming for. "You and Sal." she says, and then bites down the rest of that sentence like it'll burn them both. His eyes dart up. He shifts in his seat.
"The only reason I'm saying a word is because the answer is no," he says, and - yeah that's fair. Everyone has the right to come out of the closet in their own fucking time.
"So this kid," Hen says, moving on, and - oh. There's that look. It's a little dreamy-eyed, the way he's been getting sometimes when he's looking down at his phone and trying his hardest to keep a straight face. "What's the deal there?"
"He's new," Tommy says, and Hen can feel her brow tic up of it's own accord, because he says it with the authority of someone who isn't new. Hen has to wonder exactly how many times the perpetually single Tommy joke had been made while Tommy was less than single. God, that had to have stung, hadn't it? "He's - apparently he didn't realize he was flirting until I kissed him about it."
That's remarkably brave for a man who isn't out to a single person he and Hen are mutually acquainted with. At least as far as she knows - Chim can't keep a secret to save his damn life so at least she knows he doesn't know.
"You know you didn't have to tell me any of this."
His expression is wry. He bites his lip, curls his tongue over his teeth, shakes his head like he's clearing cobwebs. "The transfer isn't the only thing I had on the docket for major life changes."
Karen's gonna be pissed if Hen doesn't get the dirt, she tells herself as she leans forward, so she throws a teasing edge to her voice as she quirks a brow. "This life change have anything to do with your baby gay or is that just a natural progression of the coming out process?"
Tommy's posture eases, just a little. He gives her a look that she's more familiar with seeing when Chim's in the booth next to him, or they're elbow deep in shit-talk at the station.
"Happy accident, actually," he says, and Hen leans in to listen to him dish when his eyes go all soft and gooey.
___
She's known Evan Buckley a total of six hours the first time he mentions his boyfriend. There's a nervous edge to it, like he's still testing the word out, like the syllables are unfamiliar, and he glances down at the phone in his lap right after he says it, like he's double checking something. Hen wouldn't have pegged him for it, for all that she tends not to make assumptions. It's just. He's so.
Hen shoves back against the stereotypical bullshit and throws him a bone, because he looks like he's fucking desperate to share information on the fact that someone cares enough about him to let him call them his boyfriend. She lobs a layup, something relatable about 'my wife, Karen'.
"Yeah, Tommy said you were married."
Hen pauses. Wonders if she can turn her head like an owl so that she doesn't have to shift her weight to look behind her at where Buck is happily washing dishes, elbow-deep in sudsy water. There's no one else up here with them - most of the shift is working off dinner downstairs.
"We never have meals like this at home, I'm lucky if the guys I live with don't steal my last packet of ramen before I can get to it," he'd said, and she remembers Tommy grinning at the memory of this Evan he'd been seeing being inordinately impressed by the fact that Tommy could grill a steak. ("Jesus, Kinard, are you sure you're not robbing the fucking cradle?")
Hen shifts. Eyes him a little more carefully as he turns his head to meet her gaze, and - holy shit, she's actually feeling a little protective of Tommy Kinard right now. "He know you're out here sharing his business?" It's not the tone she's going for - admonishing instead of exploratory, but Buck just grins at her over his shoulder, like he's pleased Tommy has someone watching out for him. Shit. She'd been a little concerned that Tommy was in over his head, stuck up on the idea of being out out and clinging to the first boy that batted his lashes, but it feels like maybe there's more to it than that. She can't square that with what has to be at least a decade of years between them, but -
Love is love, and all that.
"We, uh. We've been talking about it."
Hen raises an eyebrow, because that's not actually a green light to air Tommy's business.
"He - well last night we talked about it again. So. I mean it's not like Facebook official or anything. But he said it was cool to talk to you. A-all of you. He's - everyone at Harbor knows me."
It hurts a bit to know that Tommy's been there less than six months and felt more comfortable being himself with a bunch of strangers, but...
It's good. That he has that. That he's not walking the world just shoving bits and pieces of himself away.
Hen watches him rinse his arms and square his shoulders and shift to face her. "How'd you two meet, anyway?" she asks, because Tommy had been so stuck on the trying to figure out how to have an honest relationship piece that she'd never gotten around to asking.
Buck's expression could be easily mistaken for a solar flare, for the way it lights up the whole loft.

Fifth of All
Late one night, Tommy receives a text from Howie.
> buck in hospital. might not make it <
And that's the whole message. He doesn't elaborate beyond that or pick up when Tommy calls. So Tommy grabs his jacket and keys and sprints to his truck, hoping it's the same hospital as always.
He flies through the bay doors, not really remembering the drive, but he'll accept any tickets as long as he's here in time.
The nurse behind the desk is on the phone, but when she notices the slightly wild look in Tommy's eyes, she puts the call on hold long enough to direct him to Evan's room.
He tries not to run, but he can't deny that he jogs down one hallway, then the next two, before he comes to a stop outside the closed door.
It hits him then. He could lose Buck. He could lose Evan. Howie had warned him, said he might not make it.
Tommy feels sick.
He raises a fist to knock, but before he makes contact, the door swings open, a burst of noise and laughter hitting Tommy. Howie almost walks right into him before stumbling back, looking perplexed.
"Tommy? What are you doing here? What...?" he trails off.
Tommy looks around the hospital room and sees nearly everyone he hasn't spoken to since the breakup. Maddie's right behind Howie, Hen is in a chair off to one side, and Eddie is next to Bobby on the other. They're all clearly having a fun time, their laughter only fading when they notice Tommy and confusion takes over. It's not the sorrowful mourning Tommy had been expecting.
On the bed, Evan sits with his leg in an air cast, one arm in a sling, and various scrapes and cuts that Tommy can see on his face and arms. He's not exactly near death.
"'Buck in hospital. Might not make it.' Really, Howie?" he asks, staring down at wide, worried eyes.
"'Might not -" Howie scoffs, realization softening his features. "Tommy, I meant I might not make it to the karaoke bar tomorrow night. Gotta take care of the unlucky man-baby in the hospital bed over there."
"I'm not a 'man-baby,' Chim," Evan says, rolling his eyes. "I can take care of myself."
"Yeah," Bobby interrupts, "took care of yourself so well that you fell off a ladder today."
"I slipped!"
"You fell on a glass coffee table," Eddie says.
"Where you dislocated your shoulder and sprained your ankle and got a concussion," Hen adds.
"I'm fine," he insists. "Just need someone to drive me home when I'm released, and I can take care of the rest from there."
Tommy doesn't roll his eyes at Evan's petulant tone, but it's a near thing.
"I can help."
Six sets of eyes turn to him.
"We couldn't ask you to do that, Tommy," Maddie says softly.
There's a crinkle between her eyebrows that makes her look like she's trying to solve some puzzle. And in this case, the puzzle is Tommy.
"You're not asking," he answers just as softly. Then he asks everyone, "Can Evan and I talk for a few minutes?"
They all glance at Evan like they're waiting for his permission.
"It's fine, guys. Go get some coffee or something."
They all file out, Tommy standing out of the way as much as he can while everyone pats his shoulder or shakes his hand or — smacks him upside the head.
"I deserve that," he says, rubbing the sting where Hen's hand had connected with his skull.
"And more," she says seriously. "If you break him again, I swear to God I -"
"Okay, let's go," Eddie says, shoving her down the hall and away from striking range of Tommy. "We can save the threats for the next time he screws up. I'll help you take him down," he tells her with a smirk.
Tommy knows it's a joke, but it's also not a joke. He doesn't want to screw this up again either.
He steps into the room, closing the door behind himself. He stands near the foot of the bed, unsure if he'll be welcome any closer. Evan simply stares at him, waiting.
"So first of all, I'm sorry. Let's get that out of the way. And second of all," he takes one step closer, "I'm blocking Howie's number."
Evan snorts, but doesn't say anything. Tommy takes another step.
"Third of all, I'd really like to take care of you while you recover. If you'll let me."
"You don't need to do that."
"I know. I want to."
"I don't want you to do this because you feel obligated or like you owe me or whatever," Evan says, a little sad.
Tommy takes one final step that places him next to Evan's uninjured side.
"I have a lot of vacation time saved up. I'd like to spend it with you," he shrugs.
Evan looks like he wants to say something, but he doesn't. Instead, he nods, accepting Tommy's help.
"Fourth of all, I want you to stay at my house." He holds up a hand before Evan can protest. "You don't need to be worrying about stairs or trying to sleep on your couch once the shoulder heals. Plus, my kitchen is better."
"Okay, fine," Evan concedes. "What's fifth of all?"
"Fifth of all," he says, finally sitting in the chair at Evan's bedside, "please don't ever die."
That surprises a laugh out of Evan.
"What? That's not something I can promise."
"Then at least make sure I die first."
"Tommy," Evan says, concerned, "you know I can't promise any of that. What's going on?"
"I -" he clears his throat when his voice breaks, "I lost you once. And I know I owe you an explanation for everything. But today I thought I might lose you for good, and — I can't do it again. I can't take the thought of losing you forever."
"Tommy -"
"I love you."
Evan's mouth snaps shut.
"And I don't expect you to say it back - now or ever - but I need you to know that one more person out there loves you. So please, at least try not to die while I'm still alive, okay?"
It takes a moment for Evan's expression to shift from shock to understanding.
"Okay, I can try."
"Good. That's - that's good. Thanks."
Evan holds out his hand, wiggling his fingers until Tommy laces his own through. He can feel the adrenaline crash hitting him.
"So does this mean you want to try again?" Evan asks.
"If you'll give me another chance, I'd like to try keeping you. And we can call this a trial run for living together. Although I don't want to move too fast for you."
"If anything, I think I moved too fast for you," Evan smiles. "Maybe this time instead of moving at my pace or your pace, we can move at our pace."
"Have I ever told you how much I love the way your brain works?"
Evan squeezes his hand.
"Once or twice I think."
"Is that all? That's not nearly enough."
It's easy to fall back into this thing with Evan. They talk until the 118 crew and Maddie return, and then they all talk some more. Tommy takes his fair share of gentle ribbing, but with Evan's hand in his own, it's not so bad.
The next morning, Tommy gets to take Evan home. They've gone over all of the discharge forms and orders from the doctor, and they pick up two prescriptions from the pharmacy on their way.
As Tommy helps Evan get settled in the recliner, Evan says, "I love you, too, y'know."
Tommy barely falters where he's fluffing the pillow against Evan's back.
"You really are on a lot of painkillers."
"Tommy," Evan says seriously, the hand of his good arm clutching Tommy's wrist before he can pull away, "I love you. I never stopped. I don't know if I ever could."
It's the simplest thing to lean down and press his lips to Evan's. It's less simple to allow himself to accept what Evan said. Not because he doesn't believe Evan means it, but because he doesn't know if he'll ever deserve it.
"What do you want to eat? I think we'll order in, so pick whatever. Thai? Chinese? Sushi? There's that new Ethiopian place two streets over."
"Delivery is so expensive, Tommy."
"I'm on vacation," he shrugs. "And maybe I wanna splurge on some food for you."
"Well, first of all -"
"Don't start."

I'm still so disappointed with 911. Like yes, seaon 7 was messy, but the opening disaster was great and they got a few really interesting storylines rolling despite the very difficult circumstances.
But then they got renewed really early. The conditions were lining up perfectly, everything was falling into place. And yet season 8(a) is so much worse than season 7. Just look at where we left the characters in season 7 and where they are now.
Hen (and by extension Karen) was stuck with the custody battle storyline again, but for the first time there was an antagonist involved who had not only a personal vendetta but also the power to exact her revenge on a big scale while at the same time the very same conflict also had the potential to drive a huge wedge between Hen and Chim while they try to work out their weird patchwork situation.
But all of that got resolved in a single episode that also somehow had to fit random calls, Eddie's C-plot, their weird obsession with Hotshots and whatever Bobby and Gerrard had going on. And then this very personal vendetta between Hen and Ortiz wasn't even ended by them. It wasn't Ortiz giving up / forgiving Hen or Hen defeating Ortiz fair and square, no. Bobby and Gerrard who have never even had a scene with Mara got to safe the day. And then neither Ortiz nor this storyline ever get mentioned again.
Bobby lost his job, had a major health crisis, was borderline suicidal and lost his house last season.
Then we meet him in season 8 and he's just okay, mentally and physically, he gets his job back very conveniently automatically in one swoop together with Ortiz being dealt with. The rebuilding of the house is mentioned in one episode and never again.
Athena was really worried about Bobby by the end of season 7, her son moved back in with her after having spend the last couple of years at his dad's, she also lost her home and she once again went rogue as a cop.
In season 8 she's no longer worried about Bobby, everything is okay, there are no consequences for her actions job-wise, as I said the house thing isn't really talked about and Harry? Nobody knows what happened to him.
Eddie had the whole Shannon-Marisol-Kim thing blow up in his face with huge consequences. I expected him to go back to therapy, to maybe argue with his parents, to talk to Buck or Hen about losing Christopher like this, to maybe spiral a little and finally unpack the Shannon trauma.
Instead he mentions every now and then how his son is in El Paso right now, but doesn't really get into it, he lives his everyday life as per usual, doesn't seem particularly down or stressed tbh, he doesn't go to therapy, he doesn't talk about Shannon, he doesn't talk to his parents outside of one small exposition scene in 8x01, doesn't try to talk to Christopher about what happened. Instead he talks to a priest once which has the amazing effect that he dances in his house in his underwear once. I'm sure that fixed him. Oh, also he may be uprooting his life again without talking to anyone about it. Okay.
Are Chimney and Maddie even still main characters at this point? Sure, they have a lot of screentime and they had their wedding episode last season. They also temporarily took in Mara.
But despite fostering Mara, they had nothing at all to do with the little Ortiz related drama we got. They were just. There. In the background of a few scenes. I guess. We also don't see them adjusting to being married now or talk about what the future might hold for them now. They just accidentally got pregnant AGAIN and didn't really talk about the risks and implications and so on here either. It was brought up very briefly, but there was so much potential for actual discussion there instead of a one-off conversation.
Buck's the only one whose season 7 storyline really got picked up again a little. He discovered he's not straight and got himself a boyfriend last season.
They (briefly) showed us how that relationship continued - and then very abruptly ended in a very strange way. But once again they didn't pick up the queer topic. They treated Tommy like they would any other love interest which would be fine if Buck's sexuality was already established. But as a matter of fact it is not. Buck only recently discovered he's queer and we haven't seen any of the stuff that usually comes with the package. Are the Buckley parents okay with this? Has Buck chosen a label? Did he and Hen ever share a moment of solidarity? Was dating another man all of the sudden a big adjustment?
I fell in love with 911 because they had great characters, but right now the show is doing fuck all with those characters. They're all running in circles and even worse maybe, the characters feel less connected to each other than ever. Like. I'll keep up with the show via tumblr osmosis, but the show didn't deliver on a single thing in 8a. They literally did nothing right.

Bobby greeted Hen and Chimney with a hug, "Any updates?" He asked, knowing from their maudlin expressions that nothing had changed since early this morning.
They both shook their heads no. "Docs are hopeful he'll wake up, but they're worried about damage to his spine." Chimney said lowly, rubbing his jaw tiredly.
Bobby nodded sagely; he figured the damages would be serious. His breath had been knocked out of him when he saw the younger first responder had been impaled by a branch and his face had been cut up by glass. "Has the hospital been able to contact his family?"
Hen licked her lips, looking a bit teary as she and Chimney shared a sad look. "His cousin is on the way from San Francisco." She said tersely.
Bobby frowned at that, "That's it? What about his parents? Siblings?"
Chimney shrugged; his arms crossed defensively. "They stopped wanting anything to do with him, Bobby."
Bobby felt a rush of annoyance at that, he was ready to snap till he realized...
"Oh." He pinched the bridge of his nose, "Has Buck even left his side?"
It was Eddie who answered, coming up from behind Bobby with a carrier tray of hospital coffee. "Nope." Eddie sighed, "Hasn't left his side since they got him out of the OR."
Bobby checked his watch; Buck had been awake for more than 24 hours then. They were already doing a 48 and where in hour 40 when they received the call. Despite Bobby's orders, Buck rushed onto the scene.
Buck's yells had him nearly want to sedate Buck or hug him once they saw how hurt Tommy really was.
"He needs to get some rest." Bobby insisted, "Did he even eat?"
"We tried, he's not handling this well, Bobby." Hen confessed worriedly; her voice shaky as Eddie pulled her into a half hug.
Bobby swallowed audibly.
He knew his soft spot for Buck was obvious. He saw bits and pieces of himself in Buck, he saw a version of what Robert Jr could have been if he had lived.
He had never wanted this for Buck.
For Buck to go through the worse thing Bobby had ever gone through.
To see the man he thought of as a son sob and shout about saving the love of his life as they pulled Tommy away from the wreckage.
Barely breathing and bleeding and impaled.
"I'll talk to him." Bobby decided, feeling both uneasy and strained. He couldn't blame Buck for not wanting to leave Tommy's side.
But the kid had to take care of himself for Tommy's sake.
"I'll go with you Cap." Eddie nodded to Hen and Chim, a silent conversation going on between the three of them that Bobby wasn't privy to and was unsure if he wanted to know.
Bobby didn't know what to expect. He didn't think seeing Tommy hooked up to so many machines, his face littered with stitches and bruises, and his chest and arm wrapped in badges would break his heart like this.
Buck was pulled right up against Tommy's bed, back turned to the door and hunched over. Bobby could see that Buck was holding Tommy's hand in both of his, his eyes wet and face red. Still in his uniform and looking as disheveled as he did when they got to the hospital.
"Buck?"
Buck jumped in his seat, turning but not getting up- he still had one hand still holding Tommy's, he wiped his nose with the other as he sniffed. "Cap." He sounded so horse that Bobby winced. Before Bobby could say a word, Buck beat him to it.
"You're not gonna convince me to leave, so don't bother." He warned gruffly, wiping away some tears before turning back to Tommy.
"Buck, c'mon man, you can't-" Eddie had stated to say but Bobby rested a hand on his shoulder, a silent plea to stop.
Bobby stepped closer, "Buck, you haven't slept or eaten anything in over day, and you were already coming off a 48-hour shift when we got the call."
"So."
Bobby inhaled deeply, not missing how Buck held onto Tommy's hand tighter, his lips pressed right against Tommy's skin.
"So, you need to rest, maybe eat or at the very least shower." Bobby eyed what he hoped wasn't dirt and dried blood that looked to be caked onto Buck's uniform. "Tommy is alive and he's going to need you to be ready to take care of him when he wakes up, so you need to get ready."
Buck sniffed, his voice hollow and broken as he told Bobby, "I can't leave him Cap."
Bobby squeezed Buck's shoulder, "I know, but he would want you to be okay too." Bobby knew that to be true, Tommy would have wanted Buck to have at least shower and eat.
He knew how protective and doting the two were with each other.
"I'll be fine." Buck insisted, tears cascading down his face, "He needs me here."
Bobby pressed his lips tightly together; he saw Eddie look even more worried. They both knew what it felt like, to lose the love of your life. They knew how Buck would shatter if something bad happened and he couldn't be with Tommy.
It happened to them.
Bobby took a shallow breath; he knew it wasn’t going to be easy for Buck to leave without feeling guilty. "How about this, you let Eddie take you home so you can shower and nap, and I'll stay here. I won't leave his side till you return."
"Bobby-"
Bobby raised a finger at him, "Two hours. Just allow yourself two hours Buck."
Buck's voice sounded so broken as he asked, "What if he wakes up and I'm not here?"
"The moment Tommy's eyes open I'll tell him I sent you home, my orders." He saw the look of doubt on Buck's face, "Buck, Tommy knows you love him, he'll know that-"
He watched in horror as Buck crumble at that, "I never told him." Buck started to sob, alarming Bobby and Eddie now as they watched the younger man cry into his hands.
"What?"
"I never told him I love him. We never got that chance." Buck cried. "You can't ask me to leave Cap, please don't ask me to."
"Hey," Eddie's voice was soft as he patted Buck's back, "You and Tommy will get that chance Buck. He's gonna wake up and he's gonna need you and all of us, but Bobby's right- you can't keep going like this. He needs you to be okay."
Bobby kneeled down, he could see Buck's knee shaking, "Buck," he said slowly, "You have my word that the moment Tommy wakes up, I will call you. I'm not asking you to leave for the whole day, just two hours so that you can come back here with a clear head. Tommy's cousin is on his way here, he's gonna need your support as much as you're gonna need his. For Tommy's sake, kid, you need to be okay."
Buck looked like he was close to throwing up as he stood up, wobbling and barely getting caught by Bobby and Eddie in time. "O-Okay." Buck's voice was barely audible, Bobby couldn't take looking at him for too long- Buck’s blue eyes were blood shot and his skin was clammy to the touch. "You promise you won't leave him?" He asked Bobby.
Bobby felt his heart crack again as he was reminded about Robert Jr- how he would make Bobby promise he would come home in time for their favorite show.
"I promise kid." Bobby watched with bated breath as Buck finally stood on his own, still shaky as he pulled Bobby in for a tight hug.
Bobby held on tighter.
"Two hours?" Buck asked them both, looking and sounding uncertain- as though it was a trap.
"Two hours." Eddie promised, already leading Buck to the door since he was still unsteady. "I'll even warn you when the two hours is almost up, okay?"
That had Buck look mildly appeased, "Okay." He said roughly, wiping away more tears and snot. He was barely out the door when he turned around and leaned over Tommy, kissing him on his forehead and whispering something to him that neither Bobby or Eddie could hear.
Bobby sighed as he looked down as his former firefighter, taking a seat where Buck had been.
"Hey Tommy." Bobby took Tommy's hand in his, "You scared us out there, we thought we were going to lose you." Bobby had watched how terrified Hen and Chim were when they realized Tommy might have suffered spinal damage from the impact of the crash. How they hurried to stop the bleeding from Tommy's mouth and stomach where the branch had impaled him. "I need you to fight to come back to us, Tommy. You can't leave us yet. You can't leave Buck; I don't think he'll ever be okay if he loses you to tell you the truth. That kid has been looking for his other half for as long as he's been looking for a family. He has us and he needs you, we all do." He brushed away Tommy's curls from his forehead, "You have a family with us too, we need you. Not because you’re Buck's boyfriend, we just need you kid." He sighed, regretting the times in where didn't push for Tommy to open up to him.
He was just as guarded as Bobby was back then when they were both at the 118. But Bobby could see it, there was a level of uncertainness that Tommy had carried on his shoulder when he was with the 118. He figured it was guilt and something else, something that made Tommy seem closed off even when he was trying to relax during team dinners.
"Listen," Bobby pulled out his rosary and miniature Bible, "I know you don't consider yourself Catholic anymore, but praying is what I do for my family." He leaned back in the chair and started to pray.

Prompt: Tommy meeting Clipboard!Buck for the first time 🫶
Hehe thank you! This turned just a tiny bit steamy so uh.. yeah 🫣
Your prompt + this gifset =
“Chim, that box is labeled ‘kitchen,’ not ‘bathroom!’ Does it look like it belongs next to the soap dispenser?” Buck snapped, pointing his pen at a wayward box.
“Alright, alright, don’t blow a gasket,” Chimney muttered, rolling his eyes as he shifted the box. Then, noticing Tommy’s confusion, he smirked. “Oh, Tommy, you didn’t just let Buck use a clipboard, did you?”
Tommy frowned, genuinely puzzled. “Why wouldn’t I? They're efficient— i brought them!”
“You’ll see,” Eddie chimed in from the other side of the room, hiding his grin behind a roll of packing tape.
Minutes later, Buck was meticulously reorganizing a stack of boxes near the door, his clipboard practically glued to his hand. Tommy, meanwhile, had been using his own clipboard and was diligently checking items off the list Buck had prepared.
And then it happened.
“What’s this?” Tommy asked, holding up his clipboard and gesturing toward a box Buck had labeled “misc.”
“It’s for stuff that doesn’t fit into the other categories,” Buck replied without looking up, flipping to a new page on his clipboard.
Tommy’s brow furrowed. “That’s not efficient. You can’t just have a ‘misc’ box. Everything needs a category.”
Buck froze, clipboard clutched protectively against his chest. “Excuse me? Sometimes things don’t fit neatly into categories, Tommy.”
“Everything can fit into a category if you organize it properly,” Tommy countered, his tone matching Buck’s intensity.
The air in the loft grew heavy as the two men squared off, clipboards held like weapons. Tommy jabbed his pen at Buck’s list. “This—this is chaos.”
“Chaos? This is a system!” Buck shot back. “I spent hours creating this!”
“You call this a system?” Tommy scoffed, flipping his clipboard around to show his own list. “This is a system, and I only needed fifteen minutes to make it!”
Eddie and Chimney exchanged wide-eyed glances before simultaneously muttering, “Oh no… there’s two of them.”
Buck and Tommy continued their argument, oblivious to the chaos they were creating. At some point, Eddie leaned over to Chimney and whispered, “This is like watching two hurricanes collide.”
***
Later that night, after the boxes were packed and the loft finally quiet, Tommy sat on the couch, sipping a beer while Buck leaned against the kitchen counter, clipboard forgotten for the moment.
" You know," Buck began, his voice casual but his gaze locked on Tommy. "I think I realized something today."
"Oh? What's that?"
Buck smirked, walking over and leaning down so they were eye-to-eye. "You're annoyingly hot when you argue about systems and clipboards."
Tommy chuckled, "what?"
"Aaand you're a clipboard freak," Buck continued, unable to hide his wide grin, stealing the beer from Tommy's hand and taking a sip.
Tommy grabbed him by the wrist, tugging him down until Buck was straddling his lap.
He pulled Buck in for a deep, heated kiss, murmuring against his lips, "And you're not exactly subtle about how turned on you were when I started reorganizing your system."
Buck groaned softly, sliding his hands into Tommy's hair as he deepened the kiss.
nothing existed but the soft press of lips, the tangle of tongues, and the heat building between them.
Buck broke away, gasping slightly, but Tommy wouldn't let him go far, tugging him back until their noses brushed.
"But really, Evan," Tommy muttered breathlessly between kisses, his fingers gripping Buck's hips. "We can't have— mhmm—a 'misc' corner, or junk drawer, or whatever."
Buck silenced him with a feverish kiss, sliding one hand down Tommy's chest as the other cupped his jaw.
He pulled back just enough to murmur, "Don't worry about that," before diving in again, pressing Tommy back against the couch.
Tommy groaned into the kiss, his hands gripping Buck's shirt as his mind hazed over.
By the time Buck finally pulled away, Tommy's lips were swollen and his breathing was uneven.
"Mm, okay," Tommy muttered absently, still dazed. He blinked a few times before focusing on Buck's mischievous grin.
"Wait-no. No, I'm not letting you distract me!"
Buck laughed, leaning in to kiss the corner of Tommy's mouth. "Pretty sure I already did, roomie."

bucked up - evan buckley x reader
You might be dying.
That might sound like an exaggeration, but with countless shots of fireball and tequila (don’t mix your alcohol, folks), you’re pretty sure this is what being at death’s door would be like.
Buck had the brilliant plan of throwing Chim a do-over bachelor party, even though Chim was no longer considered a bachelor. This time, Buck reasoned, everyone should be invited; the 118, their respective families, as well as people from Dispatch, including of course, Maddie. The party went well, a certified success compared to the first attempt. You remember Maddie and Chim dancing and being in love. You can also vaguely recall Josh and Eddie singing a duet on top of the bar, while you and Buck cheered them on boisterously.
The endless supply of shots were courtesy of Ravi and Lucy, both of whom you have already murdered in your mind. You would follow through with it if you could actually feel your limbs and get out of bed.
Speaking of the bed though, you realize belatedly that it was an extremely nice, pillowy soft one. It was the kind of beds that luxury hotels would have. It was definitely not yours.
You smooth your fingers over the thousand-thread count duvet cover, and you’re met with a sparkling glint of a diamond on your ring finger. You stare at it puzzled, before you take notice that you were entirely naked under the sheets.
Before you can continue your scary revelations, you’re interrupted by a grunt and an arm thrown across your waist over the sheets. The person who grunted buries their face into your (naked) chest, still completely out cold.
You look down to see a band that matches yours on the person’s finger. When you push gently on their forehead with your index finger to see their face, you make a noise that probably resembles that of a dying whale.
Because, in your drunken haze, you seem to have married your best friend and coworker last night. You married Buck.
What the fuck.
“Buck. Buck!” You whisper harshly, trying to wake up your friend/apparent husband.
“Huh?” Buck mumbles incoherently and sleepily, his mouth open against the the top of your breast. If your body reacted to that by tingling, no it didn’t.
He blearily opens his eyes. His eyes take a moment to focus on you, before he gives you a bright, dopey smile. “Hey, Y/N.”
Buck then takes inventory of the room and the state of undress on both your parts. “Oh. What the fuck?”
“Yeah, my thoughts exactly.” You sigh, rubbing your eyes with the heels of your palms. Buck notices the ring on your finger from your actions, and then glances down to see that he has a similar one.
“Holy shit. What the fuck!”
“We covered that already.” You say bleakly, sliding the sheets up to shield your chest. You’re not sure why though, it seems that the two of you had seen each other quite intimately last night, and you had been quite… active, if the trash can full of condom wrappers were anything to go by. At least you practiced safe sex. Safe, married sex. Jesus Christ.
“What the hell happened?!”
“I don’t know, but I’ve already thought of 30 different ways to torture Ravi and Lucy.”
Buck laughs, a hearty, booming cackle. The corners of your lips lift up involuntarily at the sound, like they always do when you were around Buck. He eventually gets up from the bed, and starts to move around the nice hotel room, trying to find evidence of last night. He goes to the dresser, where he picks up a paper, one that looks like a marriage certificate.
“It’s definitely legal.” He shows you, both of your full names written clear as day.
You were absolutely looking at the certificate and not Buck’s butt. Or the thing hanging between his legs. You don’t think he realizes he is naked, or if he did, he doesn't care.
You reach onto the nightstand where your phone is and check if you had any new messages. You don't, but you stumble across nearly 100 pictures taken last night, along with some videos.
“Buck, look.” You gesture at your phone, and he comes back to join you back on the bed as you scroll through. The two of you watch your past selves smiling brightly while putting rings on each other’s fingers. You go on to watch a video of Buck dipping you low, before he presses his lips on yours as your first married kiss. The video makes you feel so many things, and you weren’t sure what to do with yourself.
“I guess we should… get this annulled?” You propose, even though the words taste wrong in your mouth.
“What if we didn’t?” Buck counters softly, avoiding your eyes.
“What?”
“You saw how genuine we are in those pictures and videos. What’s that saying, drunk words are sober thoughts? What if we stayed married?”
“Buck, we weren’t even dating before yesterday. How do we go from 0 to 100?”
“I know, but.. something about this, being married to you, just seems right, don’t you find?”
“Yeah.” You agree honestly.
“I think I’ve had feelings for you since day one." Buck admits. "You're my best friend, so who cares if we do things a little out of order?"
You smile at Buck, because the situation might be crazy, but you loved this man regardless of what title he wore; best friend or husband. You rest your hand on his, and say, "okay Buck. Let's stay married."
Buck cradles your face, kissing you properly and soberly. If you had thought the video of last night's kiss was sweet, that was nothing compared to this one.
"I do have a plan for the rest of our day though," Buck says, pulling away slightly. "I think we should consummate our marriage again," he continues, smirking and waggling his eyebrows at you.
"I think that's an excellent idea, husband." You giggle, as you move to straddle Buck.

thank you sarah @aringofsalt for the idea & beta 🥰
Buck is so fixated on the two glasses brimming with eggnog in his hands that he almost trips right over his mom's feet when he reaches the couch.
He yells out a sound that does some awful things to his dignity, catches his footing at the last possible moment, and manages not to spill a drop. His mom laughs and tucks her feet in close, leaving room between her legs and the coffee table for Buck to get through.
Buck hands over her glass and takes an indignant sip from his own. "You're getting the next round," he says, and slings his arm along the back of the couch behind her.
His thoughts swim pleasantly, the lights on the Christmas tree blurring together. His mom is warm beside him, his dad is helping Maddie and Chim with bedtime for Jee and the baby, and Tommy quietly moves around the room, collecting dishes. Like he can read Buck's mind, Tommy heads his way.
"You two all good?" he asks, gaze flicking between Buck and his mom. "Need a refill? Snacks?"
"Thank you, Tommy, I’m fine, dear," Mom says.
Buck looks dreamily up at his man. "Yeah I'm all good, thanks, baby." Tommy's answering smile warms something deep inside Buck’s stomach, radiating heat up his chest and out his throat.
As Tommy turns and walks away, Buck's eyes drop down to his ass and stick there until he turns the corner, out of sight.
"He is quite shapely."
Buck chokes on his sip of eggnog and coughs wetly as it rockets up and out his nose. "Mom!!" he yells, cupping his face so he doesn't drip everywhere as he scrambles to grab a tissue from the coffee table.
Margaret waves her hand dismissively. "What, I'm not supposed to have eyes?" she says. Buck can feel his face burning like the yule log on the TV screen. It occurs to him, for a moment, that his brain might be trying to fry itself from the inside out.
"What are we talking about?" Maddie asks, appearing at Buck's side. Buck slams his glass on the coffee table, winces at his sister's I-just-put-a-baby-down-and-I-will-KILL-you glare, and raises his hands.
"Our mother," he whisper-shouts as he points behind himself, "is ogling my boyfriend!" He gestures wildly as he talks; Maddie bats his hand away when it swings too close.
She looks at him like he's slow. "If you don't want us to look, don't bring such a hunk home," she says. Like it's obvious or something.
Buck gasps indignantly as his mother smacks the backs of her fingers into his arm and says, "Exactly!"
One, two years ago, never mind three or four, you never would have gotten Buck to believe that he'd have this: Christmas dinner in his belly, boyfriend at his side, surrounded by family, none of them would have seemed plausible. He feels like he's glowing, like the warmth in the centre of him is incandescent, his happiness on display.
Maddie stops laughing at him for just a moment, just long enough to say, "Like, as if I'm not going to watch when he's walking away!" Her and Margaret's laughter doubles. Buck can feel his blush in his ears.
"Whose ass are we talking about," Chim asks, coming up the hall, "Tommy's? It's pretty fantastic, isn't it?"
Buck buries his face in his hands. His skin is hot to the touch – his grin is so wide he can feel it in his palms. He gets this. He has this. And it's good.
#bucktommy#my fic#bucktommy fic#buck tells tommy about it later and he's weirdly proud of himself to buck's great dismay

i can see the sun
nobody asked for a mini where BuckTommy meet in 2x18, but my brain wrote it anyway? enjoy!
-
Tommy never mentions the first time they met, mostly because he doesn’t think Evan remembers it, and honestly he wouldn’t blame him. That night was—as Evan still defines it today—the worst night of his life, and the last thing Tommy ever wants to do is bring those painful memories back to the surface. Still, in the time since they’ve gotten together, he can’t help dwelling on it from time to time, thinking about the strength he’d seen in Evan that night, the determination.
“Howie!”
Chimney spins on his feet, looking around him until his eyes fall on Tommy’s muscular build, the waves of his light brown hair.
“Tommy? What are you doing down here? It’s not safe-..”
“I was down the street,” he explains. “Thought I could help.”
Chimney turns, looks back at Hen and then Bobby, holding his hands out like he’s not entirely sure what the answer should be.
“We’re gonna need the help to get it off of him,” Bobby states. He looks past his subordinates briefly and then back at them. “Chim, there’s a girl down there with her hand bleeding from twisted metal,” he states, pointing. “Hen?”
She passes off the bag of IV fluids to Bobby that they’ve hooked up to Buck and Tommy looks around again before glancing down at the man on the ground, shaking his head.
“What the hell,” he mutters to himself. He shifts backwards and drops down, getting in front of the blonde with curly hair, blood all over his face. “Hey, kid.”
Buck lifts his head off the ground, groaning in pain as he looks up at him. Tommy reaches out and grabs his hand, squeezing tightly.
“You gotta fight,” he tells him, running his thumb over Evan’s fingers. They’re cold, and he can see the paleness in his face. Buck groans again.
“Let’s lift this,” Bobby states, glancing down at them. Tommy looks up at him and nods.
“Alright, kid, you can do this,” he tells him. They both hear the count off, and then the attempted lift and Evan screams like bloody murder, trying to pull his leg free from where it’s pinned beneath the truck, but barely gains any traction before it’s down again. Tommy glances up at Bobby and shakes his head. “You gotta lift higher.
“I-…I…” Buck’s voice is choked, pained cries falling out of him faster than he can do anything to stop them. Tommy reaches out and curls a finger under his chin, making him look up.
“Hey kid, you gotta focus,” he states firmly.
“M-ma-addie,” he stammers.
Tommy shakes his head again. “Whatever you have to tell Maddie can wait.” Tommy looks around them again, sees everyone trying to problem-solve the situation. He glances back down at the kid in front of him. “What’s your name?”
His head bobs up and down weakly and Tommy squeezes his fingers again.
“E-Evan,” he stammers. Tommy nods.
“We’re going to get you out of here, Evan,” Tommy tells him. “Just hold on.”
“One more time guys, ready,” Bobby states. They lift again, and again Evan screams, trying to move and again gaining no traction. Tommy looks up at Bobby again, shaking his head once more.
“It’s too heavy,” Bobby states, talking to people around them. Evan is gasping for air in front of Tommy, silent sobs coming out of him with the struggle for air. “We need more people.”
Suddenly there’s a crowd of people lining around them, and Tommy looks back at Evan, brushing a calming hand down his hair.
“Hang on Evan,” he states firmly. “They’ve got you.”
“One, two, three!”
He watches as they lift the truck, higher than they’ve been able to, high enough that he can see the clearance between Evan’s leg and the truck, and he tugs him forward until he’s free of it and the crowd is settling the truck back on the ground. Evan’s team crowds around him and Tommy steps back, moving out of the way. Bobby rests a hand on his shoulder and he looks up at him.
“Thanks for your help,” he tells him before stepping past him, joining the rest of the 118 as they gather around Evan and move him onto a stretcher. He doesn’t voice it out loud, but holds the notion in the back of his head that in another life, he would’ve been the one pinned under the truck.
. . .
“Where’s your head at,” Evan murmurs, late one night as Tommy sets his book on the nightstand. He’s been doing that thing where he read the same page three times over and still didn’t digest any of the information. Tommy looks over at him and gives him a soft smile, lifting his hand to brush along one of the barely-there scars on his chin.
“Just thinking about you,” he admits. Evan gives him an awkward smile, reaching up and pulling his hand away.
“Should I be concerned,” Evan asks, adjusting the blankets on his lap. “You seem…distracted.”
Tommy shakes his head dismissively. “No, no.”
“Then what’s up,” Evan asks, curious. “Where’s your head at.”
Tommy looks over at him, contemplatively. He narrows his gaze at Evan briefly before licking his lips. “Do you…remember? The first time we met?”
Evan squints at him with a curious smirk. “Harbor hangar. Stealing helicopters to fly into a hurricane and break at least a dozen different laws.” He drawls on like it’s basic information.
Tommy chuckles softly. “Sure.” He nods, biting his bottom lip briefly. “Except, no.”
Evan still has that gaze on his face, like he’s not entirely sure where Tommy is going with this. “Okay?”
Tommy takes a breath, lifting his hand to Evan’s chin again, looking at the scar once more.
“I don’t mention it because I don’t ever want to put you in a painful memory,” he states, thumbing the scar. “But I was there for this.”
Evan doesn’t need to see his face to know what Tommy is talking about. He stares at the older man for a time, clearly searching his memory, only to come up with nothing.
“I don’t…?”
Tommy nods. “You were already pinned under the truck, and I got on the ground with you so that Hen and Howie could help with the truck.”
Evan’s gaze shifts around at Tommy’s words, still searching his memory. After a moment, he looks up at him. “I always thought I made up someone rubbing my head. I mean, Hen would hold my hand, but-..”
“You didn’t,” Tommy tells him. He’s quiet for a moment, his expression somber. “I could tell you were getting close to giving up. You wanted to say something to Maddie, and I told you no.”
Evan nods, having the vaguest recollection of that. He looks back up at Tommy. “But then you just vanished into the ether.”
Tommy shrugs. “I sent flowers. And besides, you had a girlfriend.”
Evan narrows his gaze at him again, but this time there’s mirth in his expression as he pushes himself up and slots a leg over Tommy’s hips, straddling him.
“You mean to tell me I could’ve had you five years ago,” he states, moving his hands down to the hem of Tommy’s shirt, sliding his fingers beneath it. Tommy jolts at the iciness of his fingers. He smirks at Evan as he reaches for his hands, squeezing them. He leans forward, kissing along his jawline.
“Wouldn’t have been nearly as fun then,” he replies. “We were both still figuring stuff out.”
Evan pushes his hands further inside Tommy’s shirt, fighting against his loose grip to press his cold palms flat against his abs. Tommy growls softly, biting on his jaw. Evan settles back on his haunches and tilts his head, reaching out for one of Tommy’s hands. He brushes his fingers gently along the scars on his face, down to his chin, and then over his heart.
“I love you,” Tommy murmurs, brushing his thumb back and forth on Evan’s chest. Evan leans into him, pulls him into a searing kiss as his hands find their way back under Tommy’s shirt with only one intention in mind.
“I love you too.”
