January wrap up

So I haven't really had the energy to make separate posts lately, BUT I started track what I read and bookmark, so here is a list of all the 911 fics I bookmarked in January 2025!

If you think Bobby and Athena are not Buck's parents I recommend you watch Fight or Flight again. Why you ask? Well because 1) Athena clocks that Buck is going to try to unlock Chimney's phone in a frankly ridiculous way instantly which leads to 2) helping him get the information they need out of the phone and driving his through the country instead of detaining him (as she should because among other things he broke chain of custody) and this happens after 3) Bobby signals for him to follow Athena and 4) gives him the ground rules in front of her which include: "don't leave her sight", "don't lie, don't withhold any information", "don't break the law" and, the greatest hit because it gets a scoff from Athena "don't do anything that's going to force her into early retirement".

thats gonna sound kinda mean but i cant wait to see buck dying of panic when he realizes that bobby and athena (his parents, ofc 😘) are in terrible danger. im sure hes gonna be freaked the hell out, just wanting to go there and do everything he can possibly think of to save them.

and i also wanna see the rest of the team trying to stop him cause he can (and probably will) die or get pretty hurt if he tried to save them with his bare hands.

I have been doing my best to stay netrual on the BT relationship. I did enjoy it when it first appeared on the show, but the writers haven't given us much. I did notice a few things that make me more certain that Tommy is Buck's first boyfriend not endgame.

Tommy hasn't met Athena yet. Athena, who is Buck's mother in all the ways that matter. It was Eddie had to explain who she was to Tommy. If Buck was really serious about Tommy, he would have happily introduced his boyfriend to Athena. They were in the same waiting room. Buck could have easily introduced Tommy to Athena while waiting for news on Denny. Chimney and Maddie's wedding was another chance to introduce them, but it clearly didn't happen.

Then there is Tommy's jealousy over how close Buck's 118th is compared to his own. Buck created a family with his team, one that Tommy isn't a part of. Yes, he is close to Eddie and Chimney, but he doesn't have a bond with Hen, Bobby, and Athena. We haven't seen what Maddie thinks of Buck's relationship with Tommy.

Buck cares about Tommy, but he hasn't gone out of his way to introduce him to people he sees as his family.

Unless things change, I don't see BT lasting long. Buck's family, he created with the 118th, is one of the most important things to him, so why hasn't he made the move to introduce Tommy to meet his whole family?

My notes: I love parental Bobby. I love parental Bobby and adopted-son Buck SO MUCH. This fic does such a nice job of comfort and the current relationship between the two along with their pasts. The line about Bobby not knowing if Eddie is alive based on Buck's reaction while he's cleaning him up is easily my favorite as it's so skillfully written and just heartbreaking.

I have to say that I love the phrasing of “You were Buck” is coming from Bobby’s mouth in Buck’s mind but it sounds very much like an internalization of things Athena has said to him - like in Buck Begins.

Sounds like someone just figured out the answers for himself.

He inches slightly as he braces himself on the edge of the roof. He’s ready. More ready, maybe, than he’s ever been. The soles of his shoes are pressed flush to the wall of the building and his hands grip the course edge of the building. He looks down at the city commotion, then up at the Big Dipper constellation (the first one he could ever identify as a kid). He feels his heart finally slow down to an acceptably calm rhythm. He closes his eyes. He doesn’t feel anything anymore. He doesn’t hear anything.

He doesn’t hear the door the roof open, nor does he hear the blood-curdling scream behind him.

Or;

Buck has never felt so alone in his entire life. The noise and the hatred and pain is loud and he wants it to stop. So he decides to make it.

I found this so beautifully written. I've often tried reading stories like this but I've never found one that was as good as this one. Realistic writing, had me on the verge of tears. If you're in need for some angst and these topics won't trigger you, I definitely recommend this one!
