Saw Twisters Tuesday and y’all words cannot express how pleased I was. I’ve seen the original Twister movie, but this one was even better.
My inner Stormchasers childhood was dancing in glee. They got so many nods to actual weather phenomenon in it. I was incredibly ecstatic. Absolute masterpiece of a film. Only complaint was when they shot fireworks into the one tornado, which obviously wouldn’t work that way, and a cgi animation error with the rotation direction of one of the tornadoes.
This film has got action, horror, death, danger, humor, romance, and genuinely damn good acting! Legit felt like the people acting were believable. I was stunned at how good it was. (Of course Steven Spielberg directed it. How could I be so blind to not realize this was his handiwork)
For a two hour movie the plot was jam packed. I literally could not have guessed the plot until it was revealed. There were so many twists and turns (haha)! I never felt bored watching it. They did so good. I love how the movie sets up the audience to think everyone is gonna be one way, but then reveals that actually these people are very complex and have history to make them do the things they did because of the past and MAN I have not seen a movie flawlessly execute this in so long!
There was a time in my youth where I watched Stormchasers on tv and fell in love with it. I believed that’s what I wanted to do for several years. It turns out it was the cinematography I actually fell in love with, but the weather knowledge stuck with me and this movie 100% did that knowledge justice.
Idk if y’all will go to see this movie or not, but if you do you won’t regret it. It was excellent. I really felt satisfied watching it. It was that good. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
#twisters#movie review#twisters movie#Stormchasers#sky rambles#it was a really good movie#no I won’t be taking criticism#yes I know the cgi was a bit weird at places#but it was still seamlessly executed into the film#weather nerds will love this movie#I expect to see this movie played at airports a few years from now#it’s great

Saw a movie once where a woman plucked her own eyes out. I'm not trying to bag him, but it's a prime example of 'if he loved you, he would'.
one thing about orpheus and eurydice is you guys are all like “i’m different i wouldnt turn to look at her” because you are all familiar with the story of orpheus and eurydice. but orpheus wasnt familiar with the story because he was in it lol.

this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.
good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.
sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.
so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.
one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.
#warm up#writeblr#actually this is because again i don't go here#i don't read/write fanfic but i have nothing but respect for my troops#but i also have never played minecraft. im sorry. please ask me any question about pokemon tho i love that shit#anyway#out of some banal and thoughtless curiosity i watched the minecraft movie trailer#and again i know nothing about minecraft. i am aware im in an endangered population#but im watching this going: this is so fucking.... BAD#there is NO LOVE in it!#like if someone who has NO history in minecraft watches that and is like - ohhh this is soulless#WHO IS THE AUDIENCE????#ppl who love minecraft are gonna hate it!!!#at some point it's the ''mean girls musical movie'' problem --#some people will always hate the premise of what you're doing and some people will love it#make it for the ppl who love it#and usually that somewhat convinces the haters to like. chill enough to TRY it . bc it IS good#but when you try to make it for the haters..... nobody likes it. it doesn't have passion. energy. footwork#which is a small way of saying a big thing: if you love something. fucking make it and assume someone will love it too.#i love u . be brave . be bold. be in boston and come to my reading#where i wrote a really weird fucked up little book.#love u love u love u etc

Mostly spoiler free summary of my viewing experience
#The boy and the heron#how do you live#studio ghibli#ghibli#in all honesty that movie was legitimately so fantastic and im like changed as a person#Story wise as well! It hits really hard if you know a bit about miyazaki and his legacy. Its a very personal movie i think#And you can feel it in every aspect#The eng dub voice actors were really good as well and the animation was beautiful as always#Also really loved the tone!!! The story really relied a bit on the use of negative space in both sound and pacing and i enjoyed that alot#in conclusion go read a article about miyazaki and his son and then go watch the movie it’s probably going to be one of my favorites#image id in alt
