i see "It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society"-type rhetoric pretty often and its the sort of sentiment that seems reasonable on its face but i think dissolves into incoherence when you really engage with it? the history of humanity is profoundly sick societies. i dont think ive ever read about a society and been like "man, this society is really healthy". societies are deeply dysfunctional! to the extent that a concept of a society is built around the examples of societies that have existed, they are profoundly unjust and filled with weird neuroses and encourage violent or self-destructive behavior. so the only coherent reading of a quote like this must be, "it is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a society". which its a position you can have! but only if youre like. a weird monk type

Pain travels through families until someone is ready to feel it.

For many of us our generational curse is avoidance. We come from people who just act like it didn’t happen, but pain demands to be felt. And somewhere along the line a child will be born who charge is it to feel it all. These is your shamans, your priest and your priestesses, your healers. You call them mental health patients. And label their powers as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and the like. But these are ones who born with the gift of feeling. And as we all know… you can’t heel the pain that you were refuse to feel. It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. In everybody’s life there’s a point of no return and in a very few cases a point where you can’t go forward anymore… and when we reach that point all we can do is quietly accept the fact, that’s how we survive.
