This is the subject of one of my fave Discworld fics, Mister Vimes'd Go Spare! by Lunik.

“Someone in your bloody Watch thought it was a good idea to elevate me to the status of a gods damned… God! I want to know whose bloody idea it was, and how they’d like their bloody figgin toasted!”

I like to imagine that Sam Vimes, instead of dying properly, instead got minor godhood. All watchmen at some point thank him for his actions, his actions a ripple across the Disc. There's precedent in the Duchess of Borogravia, and in his arc. He keeps getting promotions, and hates each one. What higher status could he be unwillingly raised to than divinity, eternally watching the watchman?

#discworld #sam vimes #i see that at least a half dozen people in the notes have already recced this but it's worth adding again #it just gives me so much glee how sam reacts in the vimesiest way possible to his ascension #although the first 3/4 of the story is the tale of how vimes's legend grew from 'living legend' to 'actual manifestation as a god'#and that is also great #but the amount of unholy glee i find in the newly-divine vimes #it is a joy forever #also how the rest of the gods are going to have to deal with him

"oh, right--" seungcheol pushes your legs off from where you've draped them over his lap. "i bought something for you. let me get it."

you shoot him a curious look as he's getting up. he bought something else for you? he's already spoiled you a lot today between the cute novelty earrings he found for you and the dinner he treated you to... what else could he possibly be hiding now? right as you go to lovingly nag him, he disappears into your bedroom and tells you to just let him spoil you while he's here.

and then when he comes back, its with a bag he must have stashed there earlier when you weren't looking. he hands it over to you, smiling as he parks himself on the couch. "happy birthday," he says for maybe the millionth time today. when you don't move to open it quite yet, he nods toward it. "look and see! you'll like it, i promise."

you push through the tissue paper to find a soft, brown bear plushie dressed in gingham overalls and a sweater that has a cherry pattern on it. when you look up, he's already holding out his phone to reveal a picture of himself with an identical one--although this one is wearing a sweater of your favorite color underneath its overalls.

"i was only going to buy one for you, but i felt bad separating them," he admits, cheeks already turning red as he averts his gaze. he meets your eyes a moment later though, those cute dimples showing as he smiles at you. "so? is this too much?"

"nope." you just lean in to kiss one of those dimples. "you're such a dork."

and he complains, because he's your seungcheol who always complains a little when you tease him, but he knows its true. he's your soft, loving dork just as much as you're his.

it seems odd to say because he does not die or get removed from power in any kind of traditional way but i find akio's defeat at the end of rgu to be the most genuinely emotionally satisfying defeat of any villain ever. anthy says "bye i'm leaving have fun playing merry-go-round in your little coffin forever :)" and then just Walks Out and leaves akio standing there like. ummmm anthy? 🥺 where are you going anthy..... and it is somehow infinitely more satisfying than anything else that possibly could've happened to him
