The thing about the horrible knife twist of made-for-tv movie Barry Berkman's legacy is that like... yeah, yeah he WAS manipulated.

It wasn't by Cousineau, some intellectual, non-military outsider, and a gang of foreigners.

It was by Monroe Fuches. Fuches, a cook in the army, always on the fringes of violence, employed by it, benefitting by it, I'd argue charmed by it, who seized the broken vessel meets human gun that THE U.S. MILITARY CREATED for that purpose. Fuchs, who I personally think might've been doing this same thing to Barry's father. Fuches, who thrived in prison and became an even worse, more power hungry, more delusional beast, because the U.S. military taught him how to lie, how to romanticize his manipulations, how to dress himself in the accomplishments and symbols of worse systems and more violent men.

A heartbreaking piece of the show for me is that Barry is redeemed in American consciousness, not because anyone in the in-world audience of Barry saw what we saw in season one and even two - essentially some kid in the body of a man who had never been handed anything other than a gun thinking that abuse for the sake of art could mean those people love him, at least love him better than abuse for the sake of keeping him stunted, self-conscious, and read to kill...

And how many times was he pulled back in BY Fuches? Because he feared for Fuches life? because Fuches convinced him it would be the last time every single time?

Fuches escapes into the darkness, frightening because he might do this to John one day, frustrating because he was the one good kill Barry could've made and in the end he just didn't, but ultimately in the show's world... he's just that. Gone. Darkness. Nothing. He escapes even scrutiny in the end.

Jax unwillingly becomeing a parent

★ His first and only question was how the hell did a four year old get in this situation. The headset should have been way out of reach for you. Questions that will never be answered, I guess.

★ After making you cry the first time he spoke to you he tried to steer clear of you. That worked out horribly because you seemed to want to always be near him. Much to everyone's confusion.

★ "oh my! Looks like the little one has taken an interest in you!" Was Cain's response to seeing you huddled up near Jax. At some point he gets a child harness to keep you in his line of sight. It's just easier this way.

★ By the way he didn't mean to make you cry, he just didn't know how young you were and said something he would've said to an adult. Kids cry easily, what are you gonna do?

★ Jax stole a few pillows from Kinger for you to sleep with. Yes, you don't technically need to sleep but he's not going to tell you that. Nap time is one of the only times he can get a moment to himself.

★ He gets beyond pissed when you get woken up during nap time. To the point where he's barely keeping it together and wants to beat whoever woke you up with a chair leg.

★ If you want to be picked up, then he's picking you up. It doesn't matter if he's talking to somebody or doing something. You'll get picked up while he's doing something and without missing a beat he'll continue like nothing happened.

★ Instead of giving you the usual Jax treatment, he just tells you the most outlandish lies while trying to convince you that they are true. Sometimes he tells you something that sounds so true you don't question his bullshit.

★ Jax isn't known for his empathy, but he does feel conflicted when you talk about small details from your life before meeting him. What color your house was, the lullabies your mother sang and the books you used to be read. It all makes him think.

★ You're family might be looking for you, not knowing where you are and that you're trapped. Do you even realize this? They probably think you're dead, that something terrible happened to you. Those thoughts make his stomach sink.

★ If he cares about you this much he can only imagine the grief your family feels. You will forever be a blissfully ignorant child not knowing the truth of what's really going on.

I wake up randomly in the middle of the night so here are some things I love about kevin can fuck himself

-obviously the switch between sitcom and drama pov. It's such a good way to show how Kevin's pov (sitcom) controls the narrative especially in front of other people and how other people don't really see the abuse bc "lighthearted" narrative he pushes that often makes Allison look bad (she's a bad driver, she's not funny/can't take a joke, etc)

-this kinda goes with the last one but how people who have interacted with Kevin treat Allison. Like Sam. When she goes to the diner the night she sneaks out Sam she says she needs to talk because she finally has something to say and as she's trying to vent to him, instead of just listening he tells her that all she wanted was someone to "sit her and nod and agree with you" Like dude obviously she wanted you to LISTEN not you're advice.

-This similar thing also happens with. Diane. When Allison steals the bellecheck hoodie and wears it to work Diane's first question after hearing Allison say it's her new favorite is "has Kevin seen this new look ? ...it's not fair to Kevin...you got lucky" [that she's letting herself go ].

-i also love how they make almost every male character suck at least just a little bit bc yeah it be like that sometimes. For Kevin it's obviously the verbal, emotional abuse/manipulation of not only Allison but everyone in his life, with Sam it's that he's cheating on his WIFE and (imo) very dismissive of Allison's abuse, with Neil it's thay he's mooching off of patty and manipulating people into thinking he's dumber than he is so people will do things for him and he generally just treats Allison like shit, and Chuck (Diane's husband) just a disgusting cheater, the man from the car shop could have gotten Allison assaulted bc she slapped him while she was high. Etc. The only redeemable man i think is Kevin's dad who went along with a lot of Kevin's dumbassery but was ultimately also a victim of Kevin's abuse and did try to remind Kevin to be good sorta.

- I also love how they are able to portray several types of abuse and the reasons why they can't leave/ are in the sitchuation to begun with.

-Allison can't leave kevin bc she has no money (he controls the finances) doesn't have a good relationship with living parents, Diane is in the same situation too. And then IMAGINE trying to divorce kevin?? NIGHTMARE. Not only bc as we've seen he'd never let her do that to begin with but also because if they pushed the divorce the most likely story is that, with Kevin's luck he'd find some kind of loophole that let's him stay with more than Allison.

-Dianes husband is cheating on her and she's able to leave for a few weeks. Bc once again she has no where to go, Chuck probably controls the finances and has sole ownership of their house, I assume has no family to turn to so she goes back and "forgives him" because there are simply no other viable options.

- niel has been using patty to provide basically everything for him and what she doesn't kevin pays for. AND I think she dodged a bullet with the boyfriend.

-even Jenn (sams wife) has been emotionally cheated on for pretty much the duration of their relationship and then fully cheated on for thr latter half.

-OH YEAH I almost forgot the whole reason I made this post. Throughout everything kevin in someway always wins. And dude if you have ever lived with someone like that THATS EXACTLY HOW IT FUCKING IS. no matter what happens to them or if you do or anyone else does something to subtly and inadvertently teach them a lesson they always fucking prevail. People like kevin are the luckiest goddamn people in the world and the only times they're NOT lucky is in situations that also/mostly affect you. It's the most infuriating thing to witness bc despite all your suffering, grievances, and through all the inconvenience and annoyance they cause you they still fucking win at your expense.

-ANOTHER THING a love about this shoe is that it also does a pretty good job of showing the nessecity of female companions as a woman. If you've ever taken a college level English class you've probably heard of this notion before (I'm sorry I can't remember the exact term they use for it rn ) but basically it's a good rule of thumb to have another woman you can talk to and share with. Allison is pretty much completely isolated except for Kevin's friends or Diane or Sam. But when Allison and patty become genuine friends imo she starts finding who she is again and who she could be without kevin. (I think I'm gonna edit this later bc I think ibexplained thay horribly.) And not only that, Tammy with all her expirence in the cj field, despite her jealousy of Allison and multiple confrontations she still believes Allison and completely sympathizes with her.

-one more thing Allison and patty 100% in love. They're literally gonna die old and alone together.

-my own personal headcanon that I think was hinted at in the flashback to when Allison met Kevin. She met patty first and I think patty liked Allison immediately buy Allison chose kevin.

- also one thing I have noticed is if you watch this show with women they clock immediately the subtleties of the abuse (ex. Kevin standing on Allison's pottery barn coffee table and breaking it) but if you watch with a man that kinda goes over most of their heads. Cause like yeah it's just a table. But it's not. It's a POTTERY BARN coffee table that she found on SALE and it's thr nicest thing they own and it's constantly being treated like shit and Allison is always being bullied for buying a cheap table.

Linda Flynn-Fletcher

I think Linda Flynn-Fletcher is potentially one of the most misunderstood characters in the show.

It think comes from a natural enough place. Her role in the show is of course, to act as the potential threat to their summers of fun. While they boys never see her as a threat, narratively she's the big bad. If she sees it, its game over.

Here's the thing though. She's a not a bad mom. Her children LOVE her. Similarly to how Phineas and Ferb absolutely adore Candace and would do nearly anything she asked, Phineas, Ferb and Candace all love and respect their mother and don't disobey her. Now a bit of this is clearly Linda being a more permissive parent, but any rules that Linda has Phineas and Ferb never do anything to disobey their mother. While I wouldn't be surprised if there were one or two instances where Candace disobeyed her mother willfully, the closest I can think off off hand is Candace not doing a bunch of chores that she was supposed to do. Really, the fact that all her kids love her, shows how much all her kids feel loved in their household. And I think that's super important. Candace wrote a song about how much she feels loved by her mom, even if her mom is dismissive of Candace. But she still goes with Candace to see what the boys are up to even if she doesn't believe it. She sets boundaries on how often Candace can bust the boys sure. But she hasn't forbidden Candace from doing it altogether. Nor does she punish Candace for presumably lying?

At MOST Linda will say something like: "let's get you out of the sun" after a failed bust. The worst of it I think is probably the time Linda made her promise not to try or suffer the Pharaohs curse. Which, was just some guy in a Pharaoh costume telling Candace curse you. Linda goes out of her way to read books to try and deal with her daughter. She and Candace still clearly hold a lot of affection for each other and do spend a decent amount of mother daughter time together. Linda gives books to her daughter, tries to direct her to other activities, and finds her sleep busting cute, and sometimes goes out of her way to do activities her daughter wants to do with her. All things considered Linda is REALLY patient about Candace's busting. Could she be doing more to get to the bottom of why Candace is presumably acting out? Sure. But Doofensmirtz could also be doing a better job of listening to his daughter and not insulting her (or do we not remember why Vanessa wears earbuds around the house) but we all call him a really good dad.

A LOT of shows have kids hiding a secret from a parent for one reason of another. But while the crux of the show rests on Linda not knowing what her sons are doing, its not because its a secret. The boys aren't hiding it from her. The boys genuinely believe she knows. Lawrence genuinely believes she knows. Candace is the only one in the family who really grasps the situation.

Linda's ignorance, her disbelief of the wild shenanigans that her children get into is easily mistakable for normality. For representing the oppressive day to day. The same thematic antagonist as school. A mom who wants whats best for her kids, and thinks that whats best for them is them being normal, without realizing what's really best for them. After all why else we saw what would happen if she found out in Quantum Boogaloo. But the fact of the matter is aside from that one future (which also featured an effectively evil leader in Doofensmirtz, and therefore implies more factors at play than just Doofensmirtz and Linda's characters), we don't really know how it would play out in the long term. Future Linda even just kinda moves on after discovering the truth.

Linda is exactly like her kids. She just does the same things on a less physics breaking scale. The woman has like 37 different hobbies. She takes a cooking class, donated an art sculpture, is part of a jazz group. She has a background in astrophysics. She was a pop star. She won a meatloaf contest. She takes french lessons. The fact that Linda has several hobbies is part of the reason the formula works at all. Linda is constantly trying new things which gets her out of the house, while her sons are trying their own new things. Her absence is what prompts Candace to have to go looking for her. Also, What Do It Do when the moment Linda gets put in Candace's position she acts the exact same way.

Also it's why she and Lawrence are so compatible. They have a lot of weird hobbies they spend together. She likes Lawrence's history references. They watch car racing together. They went spelunking together. They go bowling regularly enough to have equipment. She has played the bagpipes while Lawrence danced (which sidenote: do you think she taught Candace how to play the bagpipes?).

Not to mention her extended family. Think about it. Her mom was a competitive roller derby skater who once bit a skate and shook it like a dog with a chew toy and pulls elaborate pranks with her identical twin. Really she's a lot like Candace with her aggressive passion. Her dad apparently won a balloon race, but tells the story in the most straightforward way possible, sometimes very oblivious, but is overall a lot like Phineas. Her sister is an adrenaline junky. And back to Quantum Boogaloo for a minute: Her granddaughter is just like Candace, Grown up Candace is a lot like Linda. Do you not see the implications!!?!?!? LIKE???? DO YOU NOT REALIZE THAT LINDA WAS PROBABLY A LOT LIKE CANDACE AND PHINEAS WHEN SHE WAS YOUNGER?!!?! YOU THINK IT SKIPPED A GENERATION OR SOMETHING???

Do you think Linda used to complain about Tiana??? Do you think Linda thought her family was weird and was embarrassed by them??? Do you think Linda ever called herself the only mature/normal member of her family?? LIKE CANDACE DOES????

Anyway, Linda is just like her family. Sure, she is RELATIVELY more normal, but that's relative, and probably simply because the universe bends itself around to keep her from knowing. Linda literally cannot find out about the real nature of her universe. Linda is just a grown up version of her children, seeking to make the most of each day, but within the bounds the universe has set upon her, both as an adult woman and mother, but also in the laws of physics expected of her. But she still makes the most of her life. You don't have to build a roller coaster to make the most of each day and all that.

I think if Linda is representing anything its that even parents can have rich fulfilling lives. Where they make the most out of each day. Having fun with your life doesn't stop with adulthood. Even if you have more responsibilities doesn't mean you can't have fun? Sure childhood is something you can't get back but growing up isn't inherently bad either?

Zeus x Eurylochus - 70's au (Not sure what to call it)

I'm thinking about an AU set in the 70's where Zeus is living a double life. He and Eurylochus already have three daughters together. The oldest is Zeury at 10 years old, the middle is Eurylana at 8 years old, and the youngest is Lily at 5 years old.

(Don't ask me Zeus and Eury's ages yet because I'm not sure. And don't ask me how their daughters got here either. That's up to you how they were born.)

Lore/Backstory

Eurylochus is very much aware of Zeus' other family, but he won't say anything because he's emotionally and mentally not in the mood for the drama.

Not to mention it's the 70's, gay relationships weren't accepted like that. So, the other reason Eury doesn't say anything is to make sure his and his kids' lives aren't at stake.

I'm not really sure how they met yet so don't ask. I'll give you the details once I have them.

And...Eurylochus loves Zeus. That's the third reason he won't say anything. They were childhood sweethearts so to speak but due to the times, Zeus had to marry Hera. It was an arranged marriage, so Zeus didn't really have much of a say in the matter anyway.

As for Zeus, he does love Eurylochus but doesn't have much time for him. He tries though. Genuinely.

Jobs

Of course, Zeus is a rich CEO of the city's most well-known tech company. Surely a job he worked for and DEFININETLY not a job his father gave him after he stepped down.

Eury isn't rich but he's not poor either. A well of middle class "single" dad who's a principle at his daughters' school. On the side he works at his mother's bakery.

Family/Friends

Eurylochus is the only child of a mechanic, James, and a baker, Angela. Both of his parents are aware of their son's relationship with Zeus and have mixed opinions about it.

James won't except the relationship at all nor will he acknowledge his grandchildren. Angela is more lenient though. She always wanted grandkids and well...she got them.

Angela kind of finds the irony laughable. All her life she's been told to be specific for what you wish for. She supposes she should have been specific to HOW her grandchildren came to be...and what gender she wanted her son to be with.

She's against his relationship with Zeus too but doesn't express it often.

I may change this to Eurylochus going no contact with his parents though, I'm not sure.

His friends Odysseus and Polites don't know that Zeus is the girls' father. They just know those girls belong to someone other than Eury.

At the beginning of her marriage, Hera would be so hurt when Zeus cheated on her. No amount of begging or "think of the children" could stop him. It got so bad until she just...snapped.

With every new whore he found would be a new one for her to...remove from life so to speak. With some should we kill them herself and with others she'd hire someone to do it.

Zeus just think Hera may have threatened the girls to stay away from him. He doesn't know that Hera has them assassinated.

Zeus and Hera have four children in total: Hephaestus (oldest), Athena (second oldest), Ares (middle child), and Hebe (youngest). I can't decide their ages yet so if you have any ideas let me know.

Zeus isn't exactly the greatest man in the world, especially to his children. It's clear that Athena is his favorite of the bunch...he mostly forgets about the others, especially Ares.

The only friends Zeus has been his brothers...that's it. And even they are iffy about it sometimes.

Family life

Zeus is actually a good father to his and Eury's daughters when he's around. He showers them with gifts, affection, and genuine care. Zeus does love Eurylochus, don't worry.

When he can he'll send flowers or other gifts to his address. Sometimes they'll even share a kiss or two. Maybe even a night of cuddling if their lucky.

It's rare for Zeus to be there for any holiday but when he can he goes all out. Christmas is his favorite time of year so even if he can't visit, he'll let his little girls know he loves them.

Eurylochus is of course, the disciplinary parent while Zeus is the fun one. The oldest girls favor Zeus a lot more, mainly because he buys them things when they ask for it.

Lily favors Eury more because from her perspective, he's around a lot more than Zeus is. But she likes Zeus too.

Eury is "Papa" and Zeus is "Dad"...I'll come up with more but let me know what ya'll think of this so far.

matt and frank are basically an old married couple and they always have been. they're two sides of the same coin, and they're more alike than either one of them want to admit, which is why they butt heads constantly, to your amusement and your annoyance

they're always bickering about something. it doesn't matter how big or small it is. a simple disagreement can turn into a full blown argument (which is usually matt's fault, he's an onery lil shit and a professional arguer). they're both moody, but frank is more of a quiet brooder, whereas when matt is in a bad mood it becomes everyone else's problem

the only thing that can shut down an argument between them is you. their petty bickering can be amusing, but after awhile it gets old, and when they really start to argue, it grates on your own nerves. the second you snap at them and retreat to the bedroom or leave the apartment entirely, they seem to pull their heads out of their asses, and then they focus their collective effort on how to make it up to you. the one thing they agree on is you and how important you are to them

neither one of them is great with words and expressing their feelings, but they show their affection towards you and each other through actions

frank is organized, and matt is a chaotic mess. so frank does little things to keep matt organized, bc he truly does care, but also for his own sanity. he adds the braille labels to all of matt's jars in the kitchen, makes sure there's actually food in the kitchen, he adds the braille labels to his suits, he buys a similar scent of body wash and shampoo so matt doesn't get overwhelmed with too many smells. when he gets tired of matt leaving his court documents all over the place he builds him a shelf to keep it all in one place. he keeps everything clean and he fixes anything that breaks

frank also makes sure matt's ass is up every morning (by any means necessary) so he's not late for work, or he forces him to stay home if he's in rough shape after a bad night

matt also does little things for frank, but he also gets him to talk. when he stitches frank up when he gets injured, sometimes he tells him stories about how he used to stitch up his dad after bad boxing matches. he creates that space for frank to talk about his own grief, helps him keep his family alive in his memory. he also encourages frank to keep going to curtis' support group for veterans, bc there's just certain things you and matt will never be able to understand about frank

matt picks up takeout on his way home from the office from the pizza place he knows frank loves. he tells frank which coffee beans are the freshest at the grocery store. he's not a dog person, but he allowed frank to bring one home from the shelter bc he knows frank loves dogs and they can provide emotional support

one of their favorite things to do together is cook. frank is a great chef, and matt knows which ingredients are the freshest, and when something is perfectly done. matt knows how to make basic dishes, but frank teaches him how to make his own favorite foods, and even some of maria's recipes

frank is a reader, and matt finds his voice soothing. on the days where he's feeling overstimulated, he likes to lay on the couch with frank while he reads to him. it helps calm matt down, helps his body and his mind relax. matt is the more physically affectionate between the two of them, he's more tactile due to his loss of sight, so a lot of times he ends up holding frank's hand while he's reading to him, or he'll lay with his head in his lap

as much as they bicker and argue, they do care about each other. sometimes they're so focused on you, that they almost forget that, until it's just the two of them left alone together

there was a week you were gone with a business trip, and it was just the two of them alone. eating meals together, sleeping in the same bed, they even went out to josie's together without you for the first time. it was like an awkward first date. it was also the first time they slept together without you. when you'd come home from your trip, you'd expected to come back to the aftermath of world war three, but to your surprise, they'd not only survived each other's company, they'd enjoyed it (and matt being the teasing fucker he is definitely filled you in on everything you missed, everything)

they're enemies to lovers that are still kinda enemies, bc sometimes they can't fucking stand each other, but they're still in love and they're perfect boyfriends not just to you but also to each other even if they don't wanna admit it and I just wanna go on record and say I would sell every bone and organ in my body to be in this throuple

•He would call you "Darling", "Sweetheart" or "Lovely".

•He's a very chill and calm caregiver, and tries his best to keep that cool.

•Sometimes he can be a bit grumpy, and irritated, but he tries his best not to take it out on you.

•He doesn't like punishing you, or being upset at you. If you make a mess or any mistakes, he may be a bit annoyed, but he does NOT wanna yell at you, or punish you. He really loves and appreciates your company.

•He has only ever yelled at you once, and it was an accident when he was having a bad day. He forgot how vulnerable you were when you were regressed, and immediately felt horrible.

•He always surprises you with random gifts. Soft baby blankets, stuffies of your favorite animals, sometimes pacifiers, and will even take you on random surprise trips to places you like/places you wanna go!

•He orders pizza for you two once a week. (Or if you don't like pizza, though I haven't seen someone who doesn't, he'd order whatever kind of takeout you like!)

•He loves cuddling you. He's super touch starved, and needs your affection, even though he'd never admit it to anyone (besides you).

•He loves stroking your hair. He'll just hold you, look at your face and just stroke your hair. He always tells you how adorable and sweet you are, and how much you mean to him.

•He doesn't like to talk about anything that has to do with what he's done, or Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. He was terrified of ruining your relationship (Platonic or not), and he never brought it up. He's super honest with you, besides that.

•I headcanon that he loves camping, so he'd take you on a surprise camping trip! You'd make S'mores, have a barbecue for dinner, and watch the fireflies at night. The woods and the dark can be spooky sometimes, so he'll be sure to keep you close and make sure you feel safe.

•He enjoys playing pretend with you. He'll hold one of your stuffies/dolls and make silly voices for them.

•He also likes drawing and building blocks with you! I feel like he'd love making block castles with you.

•He loves carrying you. No matter what your size, as long as he can lift you, he'll carry you around everywhere.

•When he first found out about your regression, he had no idea what it was. He let you explain, and did some research on his own. He usually isn't the biggest fan of kids, but for you, he would do anything to help you.

•He'd ask you if you need a caregiver, after doing his research. When you allowed him to be your caregiver, he didn't really know how to act the first time you regressed. After a few times of caring for you, his father instincts really kicked in.

So like, I was having a moment thinking about how because exy is not actually central to the narrative of AFTG (again, I've talked before, although maybe deleted it by now, about how AFTG is not a sports drama but a drama contain sports, and this is the difference, not good or bad, just differences in genre) how little weight there is on the games themselves. And this is not me hating it's just musing I muse while writing fanfic. Like way Nora writes matches is fun, but there's not really any weight to them. Correct me if I'm wrong and I've missed, but I've reread the interactions with Ichirou and everything else, and I can't find anything saying there's an actual wager on the finals for Neil or Kevin or Jean. No matter how much we/they hate Riko, it's nothing. Riko doesn't die because he lost, he died because he made a fool of himself trying to kill Neil (and didn't cover up the other stuff well enough). The match was nothing but an excuse for Ichirou. An easy cover up as to why Riko suddenly lost it and ended his life. The game doesn't matter.

And this is a "problem" if you want to call it that (I don't think it's actually a problem unless Nora really did want it to be a straight sports drama, which I don't think she did), throughout in that there's no weight to the matches. This is why a lot of sports dramas plump for single elimination. And, if you want to focus more of the sport, like I sometimes do in my fics, this is where that becomes an issue. Take out the mafia and now the sport has to carry the weight. Now, there's a lot of pros and cons to a lot all the different tournament styles and and single elimination is rarer the more teams you have, single elim often faces readers going "yeah but they're not going to lose because they can't" while the opposite league play like AFTG has the opposite problem of "yeah, why does it matter if they lose?" And that is what happens in AFTG. The games are fun, but there's no weight on most of them. Even the first Ravens game. It doesn't matter. Aside from the Foxes pride, it's not the last game of the season and they needed the points. We don't even know how losing to the Ravens affected their standing in the league. We lost to the Ravens. Ok and? Not even the characters were bothered. There was no narrative weight. And that's what you need to make league play tense. Neil and Kevin and Wymack, and probably Dan, should constantly be aware of who's playing who, and what the ideal loss/win ratio is and what the point difference needs to be. My dad is a fan, and I am not, but he is constantly telling me which teams need to win and how much by to improve his teams standing and prepare them for later in the season. This is casual fan behaviour, Kevin and Neil should be all over that telling us who they need to beat and how much by so we can count what they need to get through. Whether the Foxes were going to make it to the championship or not wasn't a concern for me. It'd be like asking me to be tense about whether they're going to win or lose a match, but during the match no one is describing the match or telling you the score.

Apologies for this being late, I worked overtime and then immediately went to rescue my sister and her kids from a car breakdown. I got overwhelmed pretty quick.

I really liked this episode, but as I was in a not great mood when I watched it, I didn't absorb as much as I normally do. (My mood really affects how much I enjoy something, regardless of quality. I was in a foul mood when I first watched Faster and was fairly critical of it. I was wrong.)

This is really the first time we've seen not beautiful weather on Pabu and that's terrifying.

CROSSHAIR IS PART OF A COMMUNITY!!! Have yall considered that he's never been a part of a community before? Like yes, he's has his family, but a community?

'Does it matter? We're not giving her up.' This man. I love this man. If Tech did not already reign Supreme in my heart, I think Crosshair would be my favorite character in Star Wars.

VENTRESS YOU QUEEN I LOVE YOU YOU'VE COME SO FAR (I haven't read dark disciple but my sister has, and she informed me that Vos' Dark Side training by Ventress culminated in him summoning a water monster and killing it. This is such a beautiful parallel that she calms it.)

Crosshair helping Omega on is my everything.

I really love that Crosshair has decided to give Ventress a chance, because he was given a chance. (And also I lowkey ship them in a one night stand kinda way. Crossajj is such a good ship name too)

DAD DUO.

I don't think Ventress is lying when she says Omega isn't Force sensitive. Omega doesn't show ANYTHING in this episode that implies that she's sensitive. Yes, she uses Batcher, but she'd trained Batcher with normal friend methods. I think that Ventress stops the testing prematurely before she can be more sure, because she sees the possibly unhealthy attachment the Batch have. It might also be to protect Omega to not know for sure. My personal theory is that Omega is slightly more sensitive than the average clone, but not to any natural talent degree.

Oh gosh, I'm so scared for the next few episodes. Ventress gives them such a clear warning. This episode did such a good job of getting the tension tight again.

I know some people call this episode redundant, but the characters NEED this in order to catch up. We as an audience knew that M Counts meant midichlorians. But the Batch had no idea. Sometimes, we need to let the main characters catch up with us.

(This is also why Tech as CX-2 works on a reveal level because the mystery isn't for us, it's for the characters)

But yeah, a great episode! I'm terrified for everything and everyone!

A quick note- I've seen people say that it's too late in the season for Tech to return. I'd like to remind you that it took exactly two episodes in season 2 to get us behind Crosshair's redemption. They can do a lot in a few episodes.

Headcanons for Maxine and Billy's little friendship because it's just so cute and I want more of it:

Billy's family moved to the neighborhood a few years before the Christmas special. So Billy's known Maxine for a few years, but not his entire life.

Billy is a bit shy and has trouble making friends at school. Maxine coming into his life is basically his version of Lilo's "Maybe send me an angel! The NICEST angel you have!".

In general Billy has the knack of seeing the best in everybody. Which is part of why he loves Maxine- he can tell that deep down, she's got a heart. And even more deep down, is sad inside.

Part of why Billy is so attached to Maxine is because his home life, while not bad, is very annoying. His mom is an obnoxious WASP, his dad is kinda spineless and just does whatever his mom says, and his older brother is an asshole (pretty sure one of the kids throwing snowballs at him in the Christmas special was supposed to be his older brother).

Billy's dad TOLERATES Maxine. Billy's mom hates her. (This is based on the book version of the Christmas special; Billy's dad apparently has also tried inviting Maxine to their Christmas parties but presumably out of being neighborly while Billy does it out of genuine love).

Billy has one of those "the kids only watch one hour of TV a day" moms and she's channel blocked Nick and Cartoon Network because she thought Rocko's Modern Life and Ed Edd N Eddy were going to "corrupt" the kids or something stupid like that, so Maxine lets Billy come over her house to watch cartoons via the cable she's stealing from another neighbor. He has his own key.

After a while, Billy starts calling her "Aunt Maxine". She's taken back by this at first...but accepts it.

Maxine stopped smoking because of Billy (and Floyd). Billy didn't like the smell and Floyd was sneezing a lot. She CLAIMS it's because cigarette prices got too high but Billy and Floyd see right through her.

Maxine regularly takes Billy to the movies. Sometimes she's sneaking him into an R movie and sometimes she's going with him to see Rugrats in Paris or the Pokemon movies.

Billy always goes to Maxine for advice first before his parents. Mainly because she's always 100% honest no matter what.

Every time Maxine does something illegal in front of Billy, she gives him a VERY half-assed "[X] is wrong, Billy" after. Except pirating. She won't say that's wrong.

Billy sometimes stays over when his parents need to leave for a weekend or an entire week. He's the only guest that Maxine actually enjoys having over- much more than her own family. She has the spare bedroom set up for him and they end up staying up all night watching shlocky B-movies on cable.

Adding to the above- if he's staying during the week, she calls him into school sick and takes him out for the day.

Maxine will never openly show any sort of affection to anyone (outside of Floyd and Mabel)...but will openly hug Billy (as shown in the book version of the Christmas special) and while it takes her a while to actually say it, will give him an "I love ya, kid" now and again.

The very first time Billy hugged Maxine and told her he loved her, she was legitimately confused as to why he was squeezing her with his body...and after the "I love you" pretty much froze up in shock. She only came to once Floyd came running up to her with the defibrillator (and yes, he was dressed like an EMT. Floyd wears many hats.).

Maxine has it in her will that she's leaving everything to Billy. Not to any of her relatives. Just Billy.

Billy always wears the sunglasses Maxine gave him for Christmas when he sees her.

Maxine generally has a pretty morbid sense of humor and sometimes jokes about how she doesn't have that much time left. She had to ease up on those kinds of jokes once she realized they were making Billy legitimately distressed at the thought of losing his favorite neighbor.

Maxine really doesn't understand (or care about) anything the kids are into nowadays but will attentively listen to Billy talk about Pokemon. After he goes home, she has Floyd quiz her with flash cards on every Pokemon so she can follow his conversations better.

A lot of Maxine's protective streak over Billy stems from him being a lot like her when she was a little girl, before she realized how awful her friends and family were to her and made her closed off to almost everyone. As the Christmas special shows, she actually fears the idea of him ending up like that.

One thing that genuinely pisses me off is how my dad will constantly point out me, my sister, and my mom's shortcomings and be so quick to blame us for it, yet when we point out his shortcomings that are genuinely harmful, all of a sudden he's "being invalidated", and that we "hurt his feelings" and shit, AND HE DOESN'T EVEN CONSIDER HOW WE FEEL EITHER WHICH FUCKING SUCKS!

Literally just today my parents were arguing about how my mental health was affecting my ability to attend school, and he's over there saying "oh, we should put [him] in a boarding school", "[he]'s doing this on purpose" yap yap yap, basically blaming me for all of this shit. (I put m pronouns in the brackets cause he was misgendering me the whole time btw)

And then I go an step out to get something, he calls me over, and basically just starts shaming me (in front of my mom an sister btw) for getting suspended and sharing how I feel about mr. Gonzales n shit, and when my mom tried to explain and elaborate on something to him, he completely blew her off.

And my mom (bless her heart btw) was literally trying to defend this asshole because she loves him, like a lot, and I feel bad that she has to put up with this tbh.

He talks about how his mental health and how angry he is at something, yet when we have the AUDACITY to try and talk about how WE feel, instead of taking the time to listen and understand, he basically dismisses us and does this thing I personally call "fake praising" (which is basically when he gives someone praise but it's in such a condescending and almost sarcastic tone to where it doesn't feel like genuine praise at all), and even straight up invalidates us n shit, it's fucking infuriating man.

And the fucked up part? whenever my mom does these things, all of a sudden it's this horrible abusive thing and that he's a selfish bitch, which upsets me because unlike him, she doesn't have as much control over it (though she's working on it), and both she and I have BPD, which makes this even more fucked up because he's so quick to judge us for the same shit he does just because we have a mental illness we can't control.

It infuriates me so much how he's quick to dismiss other people's struggles and sometimes tell them it's their fault, and then the minute he receives ANY amount of criticism against genuinely shitty actions, all of a sudden he's a victim?? FUCK THAT!

like first off the medications working bit is something for my doctor to ask, not you, second off, I get if you're reminding me, but for you to basically come at me and yell at me for not taking them and then acting like I got angry because I didn't take those medications because "I can tell that you're off them", and third off, if Brian really wanted to talk about my medications so that he can speak with his doctor about it, he should talk with me directly so that he can know first hand how it works and what the side effects are, he doesn't need to have my dad (who has no knowledge about mental health medications whatsoever) come and ask invasive questions about my medications and risk spreading harmful misinformation that's gonna get him killed.

Things I love about Kiseki: Dear to Me

In no particular order.

I love Chen Yi's room and Zong Yi's apartment. Both spaces reflect the characters perfectly. Every time I see Chen Yi in his bedroom, I am reminded that this guy is so much more vulnerable than he lets on and that at the heart of it, he is just a very young man wanting to prove himself. I've seen bedrooms like this. I look at his room and I know what it would smell like, you know. Every time I see Bai Zong Yi in his apartment, I see the headstrong teenager who works hard to keep his life on track and to escape poverty. Every item has its place and he takes great care of his things. I also see his independence, that comes with loneliness: a single towel hanging by the bathroom curtain.

I love the height difference between Zong Yi and Ze Rui. This is very important to me! Zong Yo being taller is a great visual counter balance to Ze Rui being older, more experienced and rich. I cannot stress enough how much I love it (and I've never cared about height differences before).

I love that both Ze Rui and Zong Yi feel bad about Zhang Teng's death. I love that Zhan Teng's death changes these characters, that he wasn't just an antagonist that could be killed off easily.

I love all the characters! This is really the main strong point of Kiseki. The plot is flawed and the execution is not always great but the characterizations are so good that it doesn't matter. And this isn't just true for the K4 but extends to supporting roles as well: Zong Yi's dad struggling to accept his son's relationship with Ze Rui but ultimately being a great father-in-law. Also that dinner scene after Zong Yi's been released from prison breaks my heart every time I watch it ; Zhan Teng feeling betrayed by Ze Rui and jealous of Zong Yi (Ze Rui showed Zhan Teng the tiniest amount of affection and you cannot tell me that this didn't mean the world to Zhan Teng.) Zhan Teng also has a past and a sister he loves and protects at all costs. Also, Chen Dong Yang (I very much dislike this man but at the same time deeply respect him.) And let's not forget the classmate with his stuffed animal, my favorite character xD The characterization is so rich in this show. We get it with everything: the dialogue (which includes single words or lines thrown into a conversation and short exchanges), the settings, the character's outfits and bodies (Chen Yi's tattoo, Ai Di's scars after his prison time), the character's mannerisms and then of course the choices they make throughout the show etc.

I love the acting. This is directly connected to my previous point. The characters just feel so real and so does the world they live in. I will forever love Louis Chiang for bringing Ai Di to life.

I love that the writers basically snuck a teacher/student romance into their mafia show (lbr they knew exactly what they were doing).

I love how Chen Yi one day just decided to pick Ai Di up and carry him wherever he wanted him to be and that from then on, he continued using this strategy. "Do more of what works and leave what doesn't work behind" is like basic counseling advice for how to deal with difficulties, so I approve. /j

I love that Zong Yi opens a bakery that exclusively sells strawberry flavored desserts sometimes (or all the time. He says he also sells other cakes but I have not seen any evidence supporting this claim.)

I love the intro.

I love how they incorporated the time jump. I'm generally not a fan of time jumps and I believe they are hard to pull off, but Kiseki does it pretty well. It could have ruined the show but didn't (thank god).

I love the experience of watching Kiseki because it just keeps getting better and better (even if, objectively, the last few episodes have their flaws). It's such an intense emotional experience for me. I get pulled into this world, slowly (or immediately lol) fall in love with the characters and then episode 8 just pushes the story to another level - like wow, I was not prepared for this the first time I watched it.

I say love, but I also hate some of these things because why do I have to suffer like this???

zeke and tina are both protective of each other obvs but they all know jimmy junior is the most sensitive and insecure out of their group so they are RIDE OR DIE for him constantly hyping him up whenever he dances and complimenting him. they will come up with these stupid hijinks and schemes to make jimmy junior feel loved on his birthday or valentines day its a whole thing. he really appreciates it and wants to be like that for them too but this boy is so stupid <3 its okay they understand and he shows them love in his own way thats more subtle

tina attends every single one of jimmy junior and zeke's wrestling matches she will ALWAYS be in the crowd cheering the loudest and hyping them up sometimes she brings her siblings along for extea support. doesn't matter if they win or lose she will always take them to get frozen yogurt afterwards as a reward

they have sleepovers regularly (usually at tina's house or jimmy junior's moms house bcuz his bedroom at his dads is a lot smaller and zeke's house/family is uhh not great for sleepovers) they usually consist of staying up late watching movies and eating snacks and cuddling together. they take turns deciding who picks the movie but jimmy junior always goes for a dance themed movie, tina LOVES her horse movies but will also enjoy romantic comedys and zeke likes cheesy movies from the 80s that they can all laugh at and make fun of, usually when jimmy junior or tina choose the movie they end up infodumping the entire time bcuz there are POP CULTURE REFERENCES!!!! HORSE FACTS TO TALK ABOUT!!!!! nobody minds this its what makes these movie nights fun :)

tina and jimmy junior are so competitive when they play games together its a NIGHTMARE and zeke really isn't competitive at all (despite being a wrestler) so he just spends the entire time keeping tina and jj from killing each other. DONT ask them to play monopoly or mario kart you will regret it

jimmy junior accuses tina of cheating whenever she starts winning a game they're playing (he's mostly joking) and she's just like LMAOO WHAT WANNA SAY THAT TO MY FACE??? and he's like I JUST DID IDIOT its so stupid and funny. louise and gene enjoy being spectators when they play games at the belcher household

zeke will always declare a tie despite the fact that they NEVER believe him and will keep playing

they all have each others favorite frozen yogurt orders memorized and whenever one of them has a bad day someone will bring them frozen yogurt to cheer them up :) sometimes both of them do

they also enjoy giving each other makeovers like doing makeup and brushing their hair and painting nails etc but they only do this at tina's house bcuz jimmy pesto gets pissy about the boys dressing up or wearing makeup. they dont mean anything by it they just think its fun and they like to put on fashion shows together!!!! gene and louise agree to be the judges in exchange for candy and/or pocket change

zeke is HUGE into physical affection and loves holding hands with tina and jimmy junior, cuddling while they hang out and just spending time with them. tina is pretty neutral on pda but she likes giving zeke and jimmy junior lil kisses when she says goodbye :) jj is WAYY to awkward and insecure to accept any affectionate from zeke publicly (other than wrestling which feels safe and masculine) but he does enjoy it when they're in a private place and won't get caught. he maybe has more internalized stuff to work through than the others bcuz of his shitty parents but they're stupid kids and dont really acknowledge it. just accept his boundries and move on

jimmy junior brings flowers to school one time for tina AND zeke and they know its a huge moment for him bcuz he usually isn't affectionate like that. he really loves them and wants them to know that always <3 he researched the flower meanings and everything

whenever tina or jj get bullied (zeke doesn't really get bullied bcuz he's pretty big and intimidating and fits in better than them) like for being autistic or having a lisp u know the other two will be on the playground DEFENDING them!!!!! tina has her siblings to stand up for her too but zeke has definitely thrown a few punches for jimmy junior before even though he says it isnt a big deal and he's used to it. zeke says he shouldn't HAVE to get used to it

they like going on dates to wonder wharf together bcuz its accessible and cheap and they'll try to win prizes for each other and go on rides :D zeke's favorite thing is the carnival food, tina likes the quieter rides (she's still not a huge fan of the loud and scary rides even though louise drags her onto them sometimes) and jimmy junior likes playing the carnival games bcuz he has the best coordination and can brag about how good he is at them and win prizes. zeke and tina don't have the heart to tell him that they are not impressed by him winning a dead goldfish for them for the fourth time in a row

they like doodling or writing notes on each other with sharpies between classes as like a cute lil message or reminder for when they aren't in classes together!!!! zeke will draw FULL tattoos full of text and drawings on their arms and he's pretty good but jimmy junior likes writing his fave song lyrics, tina isn't a great artist but she tries to draw horses even if they end up looking like a toddler scribbled on them. jimmy junior and zeke love them anyway <3

some nate facts :3

tagging @swanconcerto and @oceanicwhitetipshark because you guys seemed excited :3 fair warning though:

1. this is really long so don't feel obligated to read everything and

2. i mention nate's dad being an angry asshole specifically in relation to how it's affected nate, but nothing graphic or too in dephth. still, please be mindful of your own triggers <3

he's a werewolf! poor briar (remember, he's scared of dogs, hehe i am so funny)

like briar, he is the youngest child, he has an older brother (isaiah, 19) and an older sister (selah, 26)

nate is short for nathan! him and his siblings all have biblical names (take this with a grain of salt, i did like one google search so if it's wrong. idk)

his dad was a horrible and angry man and nate is constantly haunted by the fear that he will turn out just like his father

it doesn't help that out of all three siblings he looks the most like his dad. he has the same white hair and nose.

he somehow convinced himself that if he let's himself feel any intense emotions, even positive ones, they will turn to anger so he tries to keep a tight lid on everything.

he took some time off school and lived with his mom's childhood friend martha and her husband. they live on a farm in the middle of bum fuck nowhere (not really, just a small village but nate is a city girl (gn))

his mother hoped being away from the city he grew up in, and thus being away from a place he associates his father with, would help him "get over" his issues. with a bit of prodding from selah, their mom also got him a therapist near where he was staying

he still has some resentment towards his mom because of that. he feels like she just gave up on him and decided to push him away and out of her sight

despite that, his time away really did help him with accepting his emotions more but if you look too closely, you can see his smile falter a bit! :)

additionally, whenever he feels even the slightest bit of anger he panics and bolts

i should mention that his pack (formed by his parents and now solely run by his mother) used to treat him like a ticking time bomb because of his similarities to his father so uhh that did NOT help

of course not the ENTIRE pack but a few of the older members treating him that way was enough

that's why being away from all that was so good for him, it was just so refreshing to be treated like a person and to not only be allowed to feel freely, but to be encouraged to do so

his treatment has improved since he got back (thanks to his siblings letting it be known they won't tolerate this shit any longer) but he still gets dirty looks from time to time

there's rumors going around at his school that he spent his time away in juvie because his anger issues got the best of him

all this is very sad and tragically ironic since he's SUCH a sweetheart, always has been

evie transferred to his school like a month before nate came back and when he did, some people told evie that he was bad news and she was like what. he's a saint.

he loved being on the farm and really bonded with the animals. named every single one of them and can tell which is which no matter how similar they all look.

still visits and helps whenever he can

the type to be late to meetings because he got caught up helping every single person in his sight

sometimes just squats down on the side walk to watch the ants go about their stuff. he's hypnotized.

when he needs time to think he goes to one of those pet shops and stares at the aquariums until he feels the manager glare at him for loitering. he gets sad thinking about the fish being trapped but he likes watching them anyways

insanely good with kids. he loves watching the younger kids in the pack and they love him even more. he let's them climb all over him they use him like a jungle gym. so even if their parents are wary of nate they have to put up with him lol

does a lot of art! mainly pottery and poetry though!! but he also crochets, the repetitive movement relaxes him

in general he really likes working with his hands, that's why he enjoys pottery and the farm work so much

a disaster in the kitchen. local teenage boy tries to make eggs, 5 injured 1 dead

vegetarian!! almost vegan. he either gets his non-meat animal products from sellers he knows are ethical or not at all.

absolutely obsessed with shitty romance novels you know like the types you get at the airport. will talk your ears off about them. no escape.
