It’s been a while since I’ve tboi posted and I’ve def said this before but I like how the horsemen r like that . Such simple designs but they get across just the right vibe
There’s a sort of innocence in it. Isaac’s interpretation of the bringers of everyone’s doom is a couple of silly kinda gross/nasty guys that ride on toy horses that laugh and cheer when they see each other beat up babies. And sometimes cry when their horsies r taken away.
But they also have that same odd-kilter edge of grossness and morbidity. They’re not just a skinny one, a sick one an angry one and a skeleton; they’re corpses (debatable in War’s case, the redness could also read as burns and heavy scarring or exposed skin). Famine and Pestilence are decomposing. Every horse is as worse for wear as its owner. And theyre all legitimate threats, if not on a typical run then in the final confrontation for sure. There’s also their theme, how it changes to fit them all, its sophistication as Death enters the fray.
Death is a skeleton alone. It’s a universal symbol, but he’s exactly what he should be, a way to show death as an equalizer and a truth isaac must face. He doesn’t need to be flashy or a new twist. He works. And he’s funny.
But the mix just goes to show that for his odd taste and better-than-average knowledge of the Bible, Isaac is still a little kid. One who had the whole weight of the world shifted onto his shoulders as his family fell apart and he became the victim of neglect, abuse and extreme religious beliefs. He is terrified and distraught, forced to deal with much more than most other kids deal with. Instead of getting a happy, safe childhood, he spends what little years he has… like this. To the point where his mind becomes this dark place, where even the most childish and idealized aspects become warped and unsafe. And of course, the Horsemen aren’t the only aspect that show this, but I feel they do act as a more notable display of this alongside some other bosses and aspects of the game…
And Conquest… ah… Dare I say the most “mature” of Isaac’s horsemen, in terms of what the boy is going through in his head. Maybe he shares this award with death, though. Not only does Isaac acknowledge the forgotten one, but… there’s just something so. Interesting about the state Conquest is in. He, too, is a corpse, but he’s not quite like the others. He is not that skeleton picked clean and is very visibly dead, but he is relatively intact and well preserved. Even the horse head seems alright. There is… honor. Respect. Humanity. Glory. He himself is holy, one of two enemies that attack w/ beams of light. The other is Isaac.
And that’s just. It’s a lot to unpack. But I think it’s telling that Conquest is the holy one. The white rider basked in holy light, not aligned with any demon, able to keep a body not rotting, burnt or stripped of flesh…
And maybe that’s why he’s the “forgotten” one. The reason he’s not with the Beast and other demons.
Because no one wants to admit those that call themselves holy the most are the ones doing the destroying.
And In killing his own “holy” self and Dogma, Isaac already destroys the standards he was held to and overcomes the brunt of the trauma from the fundamentalist beliefs imposed upon him. Conquest is really only an extension of that. He need not fight him. Now it’s a fight against the aftermath, the rest of the pain, the worst his mother sent to him…
But the source? Dogma. And conquest dies with dogma.

I think so many people are so deeply alienated from themselves that they have no clue how to exercise their free will and autonomy. For some, this alienation runs so deep that they are afraid of their own autonomy and humanity. It is completely understandable why one would have those feelings, but it can be worrisome.
I want to help others who feel this way, so here are small things I have done to exercise my free will:
Add "guilty pleasure" songs to playlists and actually listen to them (I have a ton of late 1990s-early 2000s music I listen to now proudly that I never listened to in the past out of shame)
Getting the décor item, bath set, bed spread, ect. in the patterns you like, even if it's "childish" (I got a dinosaur-themed wastebasket from the kids' décor section and I adore it)
Taking a new route to get to a place you go to often
Eat dessert first
Celebrate well, and often
Collect things that are "odd" or don't seem like an "acceptable" thing to collect (somebody on my "for you" page collects dandelion crayola crayons and it was so cool!!!!!!)
Incorporate one new piece in an outfit you wear frequently (e.g., a new chain, a necklace, ribbons, bracelets, ect.). Challenge yourself to add onto the outfits if you feel up for it.
Sing along to songs without worrying that you sound "good" or your intonation is completely accurate
Read a book from a genre you weren't allowed to read as a kid (comics, thrillers, mysteries, anything!)
Walk without having a specific destination or goal
Pick up a new craft without expecting yourself to master it or to ever be "good" enough. Get your hands messy.
I don't want to shame anybody for not feeling as though they have free will or that they are exempt from exercising it. However, I wanted to give ideas so that you might read this list and find your own ways to express your intrinsic autonomy and will. You deserve to be a person, to feel alive, not just living. That is what our lives are for.

I love how Discworld introduces Granny Weatherwax.
She is introduced as a witch, but it's not actually clear if she can do any magic for quite some time. At first all she does is herbal medicine and Headology, aka make-believe, mind tricks, placebos and basically tricking people.
Even when it becomes clear that she flies around on a broomstick and can project her mind into other living things, it's still not obvious if she can do any magic beyond that.
And then she and her buddies magically move an entire country 15 years into the future, and it becomes very clear that she's not only very much capable of doing magic, but she's one of the strongest, if not the strongest magic user in the entire world who can do stuff like summon death himself with nothing but a candle, and I am not even sure she really needs the candle.
Compare that to the wizards. The first impression you get of them is that they're powerful magic users, I mean they are wizards in a fantasy world, people fear them for their magic, and they got a whole magic college, so they must be powerful, right? They even look down on witches because they "don't use real magic"... and because they're usually women.
Granted, the very first (and best) wizzard we're introduced to can't even do any magic, but he seems like an outlier. Then you hear more and more about the magic college and other wizards, and it becomes clear that most wizards are arrogant and lazy fucks who can't do much magic beyond basic fireballs, turning people into frogs and maybe teleportation. Even the head-wizard of the college was completely helpless after running out of juice from a single teleportation spell.
Even when all the wizards become incredibly powerful, thanks to circumstances beyond their control, all they use their magic for is building really tall wizard towers and raging wars against each other. Wars which are ripping holes into reality, which threaten to release unspeakable horrors from the unspeakable horrors dimension.
Like... the books used most reader's assumptions and expectations, aka 'Headology', to make them underestimate Granny Weatherwax while overestimating the Wizards.
Just *chef's kiss* world building.

Protecting Family
Hmmm
I'm on a Danny is Dick's child kick rn so I'm making more.
But lets add in some Ghost King Danny!, Dad to a deaged Ellie and Dan! And toddler Mar'i Grayson.
Danny was conceived during Dick's amnesia year when he was Ric and the woman couldn't find him to tell him (or maybe the Owls caught wind of the pregnancy and took her) and he ended up somehow (hmmm maybe a meddling time keeper?) with the Fentons.
Danny grows as a Fenton, he knows he was adopted btw, then becomes Phantom, protects Amity, becomes the Ghost King and things seem to be going okay between Amity Parkers and the Infinite Realms since they took care of the GIW problem, AND has been a good doting teen dad to his deaged 'cousins/clones' turned kids.
Danny was going to go pick his kids up from daycare one day when CHAOS happens. Just as he wrangles Ellie onto his shoulders, cause she wants to be tall today, and about to take Dan's hand cause he's and I quote "A big boy and not a baby like Ellie, Dad!" he suddenly feels the tug of his family being in danger.
Thing is, its a blood related danger. Meaning someone blood related to him was in grave danger, and by the emotions he can feel, its someone young, way younger than him.
Problem.
The only people Danny knows with his blood in their veins and are young enough for the feeling are with him.
So who?
But due to Danny being a protector spirit AND knowing the feeling is from someone as young as his own kids, Danny decides to use his Ghost King Powers to summon said person from the danger to him.
Danny opens his free arms out just as a tiny toddler with black hair like his own but with bright green eyes, even the sclera were green, in a ruined party dress drops from the sky from the summoning circle that had opened above him.
Danny stares at the terrified child, whose hands are tied by rope and was crying, and takes notes of certain traits she had that he saw every time in the mirror or on his own kids, same eye shape and cheekbones. He can tell his ghost core has claimed her as family but not as his kid though.
No the connection that formed was almost like his connection with Jazz but a bit stronger.
This kid, was his sister. His blood related one.
-Meanwhile-
Dick Grayson, aka Nightwing, and his family were freaking the fuck out.
Dick was already panicked when his daughter Mar'i had gotten kidnapped just a few hours ago by the Joker.
Now he was feeling pure dread when his daughter, who was about to be killed, was suddenly pulled into a strange glowing circle at the last minute and disappeared into thin air.
