Roccella nigerrima 

Why are there so few pictures of this lichen on the internet? Well maybe because it is only found on the Galapagos Islands, and when people go to the Galapagos, they're not usually there to take pictures of the lichens, unfortunately. But like, how could you not want to take pictures of this beautiful little critter? This fruticose lichen has pale white-gray, terete, many-branched thallus, and grows on costal rocks and cliffs. It produces ochre to pale brown soredia along the lower branches, and has only been found with apothecia on one occasion. There are 2 very similar Roccella species native to South America, but they both have a C+ reaction whereas R. nigerrima here has a C- reaction. So you know, if you are ever traveling in the Galapagos and happen to have some bleach on you for chemical testing of lichens and are able to ID this little guy, definitely snap some pictures! For me, for yourself, and for the lichenology community at large.

My auntie keeps Golden Guernsey goats on our island, like many of our local unique breeds of livestock they nearly went extinct in the starving during ww2 occupation surviving by only one smuggled flock. They're super friendly and energetic and their colouration might be of interest :eyes:

Under the Maine Lights Program, the lighthouse and 12 surrounding acres are owned and manned by College of the Atlantic. The rest of the seabird-friendly island is owned by The Nature Conservancy in Maine

You know, not to quibble too much over Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island but the Voodoo Cat Witches backstory is very...odd. it just...glazes over some...rather obvious... uh....

But then they are like "and then some **spice traders** came and started a *pepper plantation* and we ate them all." But they all look like

And there sure are a lot of confederate zombies. But you know who we don't see at all? Like you know what population of people implied by the existence of both plantations and confederates isn't actually ever seen?

And like, maybe it would be weirder if the movie about cursed voodoo werecats grappled with the legacy of slavery in Louisiana. But.....
