Steven: My mother once told me that bad news was just good news in disguise.
Lapis: Was this before she gave up her gem?
Steven: Yes it was.
Dipper: But! The point being, that even though things look bad—
Mabel: —there is a rainbow around every corner!
Stan: And nothing but smooth sailing ahead!
Amethyst: Smooth sailing, Stan?!
The crew turns their attention to the back of the yacht where the ocean’s waves are rising, menacingly. They are quickly surrounded by dark stormy clouds and heavy winds. All the while, a muffled sound could be heard coming from the boat’s galley.
Tumblr media
(Explanation for the GIF: Squidward is Stanley, the screaming customers behind him is the panicking crew (Dipper, Mabel, Lapis, Steven, and Amethyst), and Mr. Krabs is Greg. The goopy monster chasing after him is the tidal wave.
I imagine that Greg would jump out of the galley, all tied up, and say something similar like “it’s the tidal wave!”
Why’s Greg all tied up? He was trying to convince Stanley to turn the (rented) boat around after hearing on the radio about a big storm coming in. Stan, of course, took care of it by tying Greg up (with Amethyst’s help) and pretending that everything is normal.
Things are not normal. Even Amethyst is starting to doubt Stan’s composure to keep the “family outing” going.

26/01/24 - Gravity Falls S1E01 Tourist Trapped & S1E02 The Legend of the Gobblewonker
5/5 Stars
This is an incredibly biased review but I genuinely believe that Gravity Falls is the best cartoon of the 2010s and I think they nailed it within the first 2 episodes. If you haven't watched Gravity Falls please watch Gravity Falls.

The S.S. Cool Dude breaks my fucking heart. And confuses me.
Tumblr media
Soos owns a boat. A boat he BUILT!! Or at least, did a lot of repairs on himself. Everything about this boat screams homemade. The different metal sheets on the hull, the red part that looks like the cab from a tractor, the random headlights on the top, the chain steering wheel. Soos is a handyman, so this makes sense.
But I have to know if Stan was involved in this. I feel like he had to be? It's too much of a coincidence.
If this is something Soos did on his own, without any ideas, input, or help from Stan, how did Stan feel about it? He certainly knew about it, even if he didn't say anything. Did he ever think, wow this kid is just like me? Did he want to help? Did he stay away because it reminded him of his brother and it hurt too much? Did he listen to Soos at work excitedly talk about the progress he was making on his boat and have to pretend not to care?
If this was a project that Stan and Soos did together, first awww!!! But second, what happened? If that's the case then the vibes are definitely off in the episode... Stan didn't ask Soos to come fishing with him and the kids? Didn't ask to use the boat they built together? Soos was just, also at the lake?
Plus, in the end, the S.S. Cool Dude is completely destroyed. For seemingly spending a long time buying parts, repairing the boat, and paying for a spot to dock it, Soos really doesn't seem upset about it getting destroyed. He's just excited to get in Stan's little boat and spend time with him.
Personally, I think this is probably what happened:
Young Soos heard Stan tell a few vague stories about fixing up a boat as a teenager and dreaming about going to sea, and maybe even hunting monsters.
Soos wants to spend more time with Stan, and make him proud, so he starts working on a boat himself. Stan helps for a while, things are going good. But something happens and Stan can't take it anymore. It hurts too much. It was supposed to be him and Ford. So, Stan quits. Says he's too busy or something. Soos continues to work on it, and spends time at the lake when he can.
Soos is at the lake on opening day, like the rest of the town, and spots Stan and the kids, talking about a monster hunt and offers up his boat, maybe hoping Stan would come along. The kids agree, but Stan stays behind. Oh well, maybe if he catches a monster Stan will be impressed?
We all know how the monster hunt ends, but that's not important. Soos doesn't care about the Gobblewonker, or that his boat is destroyed. The kids are with him now, and they want to spend time with Stan. And so does Soos. So, he gets to. He gets to fish with Stan on a boat, which is all he really wanted anyway.

A Giant Woman vs a Giant Lake Monster! Who will come out on top?
Fuck I said I was gonna post the promo for the next UF chapter and almost forgot. Anyway yeah of course this is Zelda inspired because I'm obsessed and bc Echoes of Wisdom comes out next week. Either way, The Legend of the Giant Woman oughta be fun to revisit. It was already a pretty decent early UF chapter, but I think I can do it even better justice this time around ;3

Le Context et Masterpost
---------------------------------------------------
After the twins left the kitchen Stan turned to the other residents of the Mystery Shack who were (hopefully temporarily) stranded in Gravity Falls, "And what about you guys? You up for some fishing?"
"You want you us to come with you too? I thought it was a 'family' bonding trip?" Morgana asked voicing everyone's skepticism on the matter.
A fair reaction in Stan’s opinion. He hadn't really given them much of a reason to trust him. Heck, his own grand niblings had no faith in him! But maybe this was worth a shot. Fishing was something everyone enjoyed and it was the best relaxing and bonding experience he could think of (which wouldn't land them in jail again). And maybe he was an expert at it and could show how cool he was but that's besides the point.
"Thought you'd want to relax a bit if you're gonna be stuck here awhile anyway. Especially blondie over there." Stan drew attention towards Arthur who seemed to be staring off in the distance, not really paying much attention to the conversation.
All of the medieval residents were on edge from being trapped in a completely new world and had taken many, many accidents to adjust to the Mystery Shack alone. While Morgana, Gwen and Merlin had adjusted fairly well (or were better at hiding it), Arthur was still taking time to get comfortable.
Technology often suffered the wrath of Arthur's sword, despite being innocent of the sorcery accusations. Stan's heart was not ready to mourn the loss of more money. The wounds from Arthur's battle with the fridge was still too fresh on his heart.
"What do you say, Arthur?" Morgana asked.
Arthur snapped back to reality, "...will there be killing?" confirming that he was listening to everyone in the kitchen.
"Seriously? That's what you're concerned about?" Morgana deadpanned.
"Well, you all have some weird traditions so I was hoping to know we were talking about the same thing." Arthur answered both Stan and Morgana.
If Stan had to guess he was still salty about...actually there were too many mishaps to pinpoint one. "Yeah, sure. The fish will be dead if take them out of the water." Stan subtly searched the kitchen entrance for the twins. He hoped this conversation wouldn't spoil the surprise for them.
"We'll go." Morgana answered after some contemplation. She guessed it would be nice to get some fresh air. They couldn't hide away in the Shack forever.
-----------------------------------------------------
"No. For the last time, I am not getting in there." Arthur refused to budge from his position. The metal box abomination stood in front of him menacingly. He didn't know how the people here could just be fine with these glorified horseless cages, he knew he wasn't.
"Everyone has already gotten in, why do you have to be such a coward?" Morgana asked exasperated.
The pines twins were waiting inside with blindfolds on while Stan muttered to himself at the wheel. Even Gwen and Merlin (traitor) had gotten in, though they looked very stiff.
If Arthur had known that this was how they were going he never would've agreed to this. "How are you okay going in there Morgana? Just look at that...thing!" Arthur gestured to the car.
"Hey! I'll have you know this girl's survived a lot and she's still a beaut!" Stan called out offended.
Neither responded to that.
"Because that's how things work here. There's no getting around it. What are you going to do here alone anyway?"
"I don't know. It's still better than getting on that! Can you seriously trust that thing?"
"I'm not saying I trust that thing." Morgana looked into Arthur's eyes as they both fell silent for a moment, "Arthur, we don't know how long we're going to be stuck here. We need to adapt. Being stubborn won't get us back to Camelot."
Arthur stared at Morgana. After a careful look he realized, "...You're afraid."
"...We all are."
Arthur took a deep breath look at his still unfamiliar surroundings. A broken golf cart lay not far from the lawn mower he had skewered yesterday. Even the Mystery Shack where more of his wreakage was felt very wrong in its design. At least the forest surrounding it was comforting. He wondered if there were griffins there too.
"Fine, if you insist. Can't really depend on Merlin to protect you girls now can we?" Arthur spoke out loud.
"Oh, you really want to try that? You really want everyone to see your butt kicked by a girl."
"You're getting on or what?!" Stan called out too worn put on patience.
"I am. Morgana might be preparing for a fight though." Arthur said as he got on, Morgana doing the same.
"Har har. You be-" Morgana was cut off by the car's rumbling before it started moving.
"Buckle up. Or don't. I don't really care. Ha ha!" Stan laughed at his own joke as the car started moving faster increasingly unnerving it's passengers.
"Is This Normal?!" Gwen asked feeling a bit sick.
"No, I think it's just Grunkle Sta-aaaah!"
"AAAAaaaaahhhhh!"
