When I woke up the next, the bed was cool as the morning- though the sun shown through the now half open window like near noon. Half forgetting the night prior and half remembering, I sat up quickly.

"My goodness darling- someone's ambitious." A light laugh came into the room. I turned to the left to see Miles entering with a bowl of oatmeal and glass of water.

"I'm, wait what time is it? How long have you been up?" I asked, as he calmy came and sat on the chair near my side of the bed. "Oh don't worry love, it's only been an hour and besides- you were so tired." I yawned in reply, before he set the bowl in my hands.

"Oooh, Miles- thank you" I beamed. "Oh please- it's what Mothers do," he cheekily totted his head with a smirk. "Of course," I wryly chuckled as I began to eat, overjoyed to have Miles there with me, "My- do I feel like a lady today!"

When I finished, I realized a scribbling sound coming from Miles' direction. Turning to look at him, I was met by the sight of him focusedly drawing on a large notesheet.

"What is that?" I asked, quickly swinging my legs off the edge of the bed and leaning in to get a look. Though he pulled in slightly and when I confusedly looked up, laughed "You make a great portrait."

My eyes lit up, " A portrait?! Of me?! I wanna see!" "Uh uh uh" he tutted, "Not quite yet my darling." Then he rose from the seat and quickly planted a soft peck on the top of my head.

I gasped. Miles stepped back concerned, "I am sorry, I wasn't thinking- I didn't want to make you uncomfortable." Our faces were deathly pale with surprise on both sides.

I stood, suddenly wrapped my arms around him, and began muttering inaudibly into his shirt.

He slightly pulled me back just enough to worridly ask, "My dear, I'm so sorry- Are, are you alri-" I cut him off, looking up with a teary eyed laugh, "Oh Miles- no one's ever kissed me."

He blushed madly, and bashfully looked all about ourselves, a mix of a laugh and a clearing of his throat sounding from him, "Well, thing is, I, I have never kissed a woman myself. Not that you're a woman all the time, I know you vary- just that I've, I mean..." We both nervously laughed knowingly.

"Well," he cleared his throat as we composed ourselves and slightly pulled away, "I, I would be overjoyed if you would allow me the honor of endeavoring to win your first true kiss, y/n." "Of course I will, Miles." I beamed as did he in return, and we began the day.

"First off- let's get this room cleaned up!" I sang, as we began to fix things and get the fireplace stoked.

At about five that afternoon, a knock came at the door. Miles and I exchanged nervous glances, but maintained upbeat. He arranged his slightly wrinkled clothes (as we both had slept in our clothes from the day before), and headed to the door. "Bobbies" he whispered, and I quickly ran to the bedroom. That was codeword slang in the old days for the police.

I heard the door swing open and Miles speaking with a few voices, before he invited them inside. "Um, y/n dear," Miles called in a very civilized tone. I was glad to be wearing such a simple outfit that I just slipped a pale blue, nice, feminine, evening robe over it.

"Yes Miles?" I quickly came into the entrance. There I was met by the sight of two heavy set, older policemen and one mustached, ginger man.

"Gentlemen," I curtsied, as the two cops tipped their caps. "Good'ay miss," one said, " We wanted to inform you that a certain Agatha Runcible, has unfortunately been committed to the Middlewell Hospital, for the mentally unwell." Feeling their eyes scan me for 'normal behavior', I overreacted shock.

"O-ohhh, oh my! How awful, the poor dear. Whatever for?" I gasped. "Oh, she was feeling quite out of sorts," the one nodded. "Yes, a shame really," the other look down ashamed to bear the news to a 'proper civil lady', as myself. "Yes, awful news really," the mustachoed ginger shook his head, slightly smitten by me. Though, I wanted to be sure Miles and I were fully clear, as there still was slight speculation in the air.

"My, and to think we had her to those fine dinners at the hall and never seen the poor dear needed help, darling. Oh, for shame! I- whew" I suddenly acted lightheaded and raised a palm to my brow, tapping Miles' hand in the process. "I beleive I am feeling a bit faint!" My voice sounded weakly.

The ginger raced to me, though Miles was already folding his arms about me. "Oh dear, darling!" He played along, "She gets like this at times. Please make yourselves comfortable." "Ah, y-yes, gentlemen- please don't-" Suddenly my foot slipped and I really did begin to fall down.

Like lightning, the ginger man's arms wrapped about my lower half and lifted me up, bridal style. My brow instinctively raised in the oddity of the situation, though quickly regained my act- playing along. Weakly, I turned to the man and tapped the side of his face with a faux dazed expression, "Thank you so much sir, I-I am such a ditz these da-days." "I'm sorry I wasn't here to catch you all the times before, lovey- woulda loved it," He grinned back with a slight wink, as he started to turn for the tiny parlor- I shot the now agrivated Miles a wide-eyed look.

"Oh I bet you would." Miles muttered to the roof.

Here’s the thing with the Christians who go door to door to spread the word.

I, personally, would invite them in for a cup of tea or coffee or whatever they prefer. I would cater to them, and be kind, though politely and non-aggressively explain to them why I am not interested.

Why?

Because these people expect hostility. More often than not, they have been sent out by older members of their group, and when they are met with hostility, they will return to essentially be told ‘I told you so’. And it will be used as a manipulation tactic to ‘prove’ that non-believers are ‘evil’ and ‘must be saved’. In the case of, and especially if, the people who come to your door are young folk, it’s likely not their fault.

Thus, with the spider as my guide as a druid…

I welcome them into my web. They might struggle in the silk a little. They might be frightened. They might think I’ll bite their heads off… but they’ll wriggle free and walk away. Hopefully with a new perspective and the realisation that ‘spiders’ aren’t so scary.

Understand that when you’re horrible to these people, you’re not just ‘making them go away’ when they leave. You’re strengthening their doctrine. And they will teach their children or younger members of the group the same thing, when they’re older. And so the cycle continues.

Understand that they’re humans too, and humans are such vulnerable things, prone to influence.

2. what sport moment made you cry? (happy)

Im not sure I've ever properly cried from happiness while watching any sport, but I've definitely come close on a few occasions (all rugby related)

when scotland beat france in the 2021 six nations which meant wales won the tournament

leicester tigers winning the english premiership while I was actually in the stadium !!!

and portugal beating fiji at the world cup last year was so incredible, i did have tears in my eyes

i do have a bit of a collection of rugby clothing items going. they're mostly welsh, but I've also got some stuff for scotland, japan, leicester tigers and last years world cup

15. which athlete was your favourite growing up? why?

I'm gonna do this sport by sport cause there's a lot that i liked.

tennis wise I inherited my parents' love for roger, andy and serena and how could I not? I also loved watching dustin brown and heather watson, and eventually I decided I quite liked rafa too (understatement of the century). we basically only had access to wimbledon so the players i liked were mostly the ones I saw playing there.

in terms of rugby where do I start? I feel like as a welsh rugby fan who grew up watching them in the 2000s/2010s I couldn't not say alun wynn jones. he was welsh rugby for the last decade and a half and we all miss him very much. i loved ken owens too, my favourite hooker (yes that is a real rugby term). basically I just loved wales and I think the team from around 2017-2021 is probably a good encapsulation of my favourite players.

Inside restaurant is Deserted

Explain that I'm sort of in a rush, am assured it's fine

Order chicken milanese which is generally a pasta dish with a breaded chicken component

Am led to seat nearish the front and promptly provided with a pint of coke in a glass tankard

Am then provided with a front row seat to an absolutely incomprehensible series of people entering and exiting (and in one case walking directly into) the door to what I can only presume is the kitchen

Starting with the guy who had been sitting at a table chain-smoking over a pile of papers

I counted at least three people exiting at least twice without actually entering in between

Am finally brought food

It is a breaded, butterflied chicken breast approximately the size of my face and a small pile of pasta approximately the size of my fist

It is all delicious

Chain-smoking papers man reappears, now wearing a chef's apron labcoat thing

Go up to pay, chain-smoking ficus lady is now having a very loud argument in a language I did not recognise but was not Italian Welsh English French russian Gaelic or Spanish

She sees me, says, and I quote 'ah little girl lost, one moment' and promptly hangs up

I am 27 and only nominally female

I am not remotely lost

She charges me for the pint of coke but not the food

I try to point out that she hasn't charged me for the food

'do you want to pay for the food?'

I leave. The door is now full of half a dozen very tall very Italian men and one absolutely adorable cocker spaniel

I ask if I can pet the dog (I have my priorities straight okay)

Hi, I just wanted to say thanks for all you do, you are a Tumblr bright spot and all around good egg. In particular though, I wanted to thank you for talking about Welsh language so often and freely. I remember ages ago you were understandably frustrated that someone who ought to be using correct Welsh place names wasn't, and I thought, "I can practice that as a way to have basic respect for the place, people and language". I found it trickier than I expected, though, and I was cross with myself. Then I saw a post of yours about how Welsh pronunciation is very consistent, even in place names, and I realised that I am struggling with a very English problem - place names are so variable (like Alnwick and Alnmouth, same blooming river, one has a silent L). I was really insecure about reading the Welsh letters in case they changed in ways I didn't predict. Now when I struggle, I can remind myself not to impose english problems on a not-English language. And if i can spot that unconscious bias, i can look for others, and that's because of things you said, and I'm really grateful. So thank you, I think you're great.

For me, it's the hypocrisy of the fact that at least some of the people who attacked and insulted him are the same ones who started pleading with him to post BTS things from GO 2 as soon as the SAG-AFTRA strike ended. The same people who also called out Georgia for supposedly liking an Amy Schumer post on Instagram and then promptly forgot about it when she shared the "DILF of the Year" stuff right after, but still hold a grudge against Michael one month later...

It makes me sad that it’s been a month since Michael Sheen has interacted with fans on Twitter (I don’t count the tweets for causes or charities). Except for the time some ten years ago when he got off twitter all together, I think this is the longest “hiatus” he’s taken. I’ve heard, “maybe he’s just too busy” and I’m sure that’s partly true but he’s been busy before and generally doesn’t stay away more than a few days at a time.

I think we all know the real reason he’s currently gone is because he was dogpiled over his statements about the current situation in Palestine not being pure enough according to the Twitter Foreign Policy Experts who thought they’d take it upon themselves to school a 54-year-old activist who’s been watching the shifting struggles of the world for decades. Anyone who’s been following him for the past few years should have noticed by now that he doesn’t take kindly to condescention or insults and he’ll readily block those who try. In their parasocial fantasies they forget that friendliness ≠ friendship and shit you can get away with saying to RL friends may not go down well with someone they don’t really know outside of their public persona.

I hope if he finally decides to start interacting with fans again they remember to show some goddam respect. He’s NOT your buddy. He’s a friendly stranger on the internet.

Addendum: if anyone tries to make this political I will block you, no exceptions. I don’t take kindly to condescension or insults, either.

Okay I don't know if this is a good place to ask, sorry if it's random or annoying! I'm trying to learn Welsh for study purposes (goal: read Mabinogi) and I'm wondering if y'all can recommend any welsh-language podcasts or audiobooks? Especially medieval-adjacent ones, because brain gremlins. Thanks! (I hope this isn't annoying.)

Hey! Not annoying at all, it makes me so so happy when people ask this question!! Welsh is still an endangered language and a really underappreciated literary culture, please learn and read Welsh and tell other people about it!

Now I've had this ask before but the Tumblr search function continues to be garbage so I'm just gonna start again.

The Learn Welsh Podcast is super useful, as is Y Podleidiad Dysgu Cymraeg from BBC Radio Cymru. You could also check out Doctoriaid Cymraeg.

The fiction podcast We Know None has a little Welsh language in it, as does @ethicstownpod. And Gather the Suspects, Seren and Chain of Being are all from Welsh creators, so I recommend them!

Audiobooks are a bit trickier - because Welsh is endangered there aren't as many. This said, the bookshop Y Lolfa is an amazing Welsh language book store that has a few Welsh language audiobooks, and you can access it online. It also looks like Audible has a 'Welsh language' section of audiobooks - a quick glance and I think the books by Colin Jones should be a good start. They're fantasy rather than real mythology but designed for learners.

Always check the reviews, as sadly due to Welsh not being as widely spoken as it once was, sometimes these things will be made with bad pronunciation / mistakes, and might take you down the wrong track.

Also just a note - the original language of the Mabinogion is Medieval Welsh, which is quite different to modern Welsh. However you can find translations of it into modern Welsh and English.

And finally - it's not an audibook, but there is now a Welsh language edition of The Hobbit, Yr Hobyd, if you want to try that!
