Webigaza isn't a character that stands out for me at least, but I'm very curious about her manga debut. We know she's supossed to be pretty (and that she won't escape "Murata's female treatment" lol) but I hope her face screams "uncanny valley", more like a doll than a human being

I’ve been holding onto this ask til she finally showed up and….

…let’s just say from the raws she almost passed me by - if it weren’t for Suiryu’s reaction and the telltale panels of her guzzling down a gallon of water for her overheating symptoms, I might’ve otherwise missed her without doubling back to check. Like oh wait a sec, is that her??? Almost mistaking her for just another quirky news reporter or a newbie streaming attention-grabby v-tuber. Where at this (early?) stage, it’s not obvious at all (from her looks) that she’s someone who went through extensive bodily modifications to obtain cyborg + superhuman psychic powers (we do see her fly away like Tatsumaki though), but otherwise these few pages feel like just a tease without actually seeing her in action yet.

I think, if there’s anything I might have expected, it would be her overall *~radiant~* pixie magical girl vibe. Cause what was most striking and standout to me about ONE’s design for her, was her 1000yrd stare eyes, full of resolute determination without regrets, framed in all the gratuitous frills and fanciest fluffiest lashes imaginable. Uncannily doll-like (with an underlying crazed desperation) would be apt. Yet she had a mysterious—and quite literal spark, or aura to her that I just don’t feel from Murata’s. (Speculation: perhaps her manga demeanor might change once Sweet Mask’s identity gets outed and she resigns herself to her life’s choices.)

For reference, here’s how she looked in the webcomic (of which her line about ‘being on hiatus’ is ironically the same, but she rushes off to fight giving us a demonstration of her powers all at once, whereas in the manga it’s offscreened till we see her again):

Comparatively in Murata’s style, perhaps she comes off rather same-facey much like how he draws most of his other typical youthful women. If I look reeeally close I can see some of the same iris sparkle-dots in her eyes like ONE’s, but…the lashes. I wish were much more flamboyant. (Like think about invisible girl’s face reveal in bn/ha - biggest flashy fluffy lashes in all their sparkly rainbow light-refraction magic glory~ So mayhaps I expected some of that pretty eye-stopping glamor for her from Murata.)

And yet thinking about it more….I realized that since Webigaza’s character is one who follows trends to compete, her manga debut reminds me of Tatsumaki’s ai-doctored hero commercial, where she looks like an (ooc) uwu-waifu’d up poster girl (much to Tatsu’s rage) for the HA, and here we see Webigaza promo shooting for the Neo Heroes in much the same way. Essentially, she’s dolled up and cutesy gesturing like how others expect her to look like (aka like an ai-mishmash of generic idol trends), rather than going ham individualizing herself as a manic pixie dream girl psychic cyborg….YET. Meaning perhaps we’ll see more of her human appearance chafe away as her cyborgification desperation (as another extreme foil to Genos) intensifies.

"Blaze, watch out! There are civilians nearby!" Joel barked in Blaze's earpiece as he loosed a wheel of fire. Canary squawked in alarm as Poultry Man tackled him out of the way of the wheel. The two hurtled to one side in a tangle of white and yellow feathers.

"I know that," Blaze ground out as he focused on conjuring another wheel. He liked wheels of fire more than fireballs, due to being a little more precise and effective, in his opinion. "So maybe step off my back a little."

"I will when you stop acting like you're out of control!" Joel snapped.

Blaze's whole body went rigid, the fire wheel spinning around his fist. "Out of control?" he demanded, his other hand holding the earpiece firmer in his ear as he ducked behind a concrete barrier to hide. "I am never out of control, and I resent the implication otherwise." An animalistic growl built in his throat. "Do you understand how much I work to remain in control with powers like mine?"

"Blaze—"

"N-n-n-n-no. Between the two of us, only one of us has the one-hundred-and-sixty IQ. And that would be me. So don't you dare lecture me about not knowing how to use my own powers. I'm not you, Lore. I'm not a danger to myself and others because I don't know how to leash myself. So shut up and let me do my work." He ripped his earpiece out of his ear and vaulted the concrete barrier to throw himself back into the fight, hurling the fire wheel in Poultry Man's general direction. The villain squawked like a chicken and dodged out of the way.

"Blaze! What are you doing?!" HoTGuY shouted as Blaze lowered his head a little and charged forward. His Blaze Rods appeared around his head, orbiting fast. They lifted him off the ground and he was flying, his gold-blond hair turning into pure flame. It would return to normal later.

Canary saw him in the air and snapped out his wings—enormous and vibrant, rich yellow. They beat the air once and shot him up to be almost level with Blaze. "Look who we pissed off!" Canary teased, voice singsong and high-pitched. "You here to play games, Fire Boy?"

Blaze's eyes were entirely the same shade of red while his fire powers were active and his Blaze Rods orbited his head. Iris, sclera, pupil—all the same. It was why he didn't bother wearing a mask. No one expected the green-eyed nerd to be Blaze because everyone assumed Blaze was red-eyed all the time.

Blaze bared his teeth in a frustrated snarl, sparks shooting between the gaps. He spun two fire wheels into existence. One spinning around each hand. "Let's see how playful you are when your flight feathers are ash, birdie," he spat. The inside of his mouth glowed like there was fire in his throat, its light reflecting outward.

Blaze had a temper. Blaze knew he had a temper. A bad one. One with a short fuse and a big explosion. He knew it was a side-effect of his powers. He didn't used to be so easy to set off. He used to be a lot more patient with people and situations.

But here he was, eleven years after his powers manifested, ready to burn a whole city block down and trying to stop himself from actually doing so.

But man did Canary piss him off. Even more than Poultry Man. Poultry Man was a pain in the neck. He was chaotic and antagonistically playful. He took nothing seriously. But Canary—Canary was little more than Poultry Man's lackey. But he targeted Blaze like it was his life goal to see how much fire he could withstand.

Canary's eyes widened behind his mask.

"Take the shot, you idiot!" Poultry Man shouted.

Canary moved to aim his crossbow, but Blaze's fire wheel spun into existence faster. He hurled it across the distance like a chakram. Canary's wings flapped hard to go over it and avoid it. Blaze rushed after.

At this point, I'm reeally hoping the narrator in Sparks and Spells is Kiyomi Haunterly. Saw someone else point out the narrator mentioning their "nonexistent eyes", but in the last episode, I also realized the narrator makes ghost puns. Since they say they're planning to enroll in Monster High next semester, that at least confirms the narrator is in-world watching the musical, and the puns imply they're a ghost. There's no telling if it's something that'll translate into the actual show, buuut I wanted to go back through the episodes and look for key bits of characterization in some of the quotes.

Observations are long, so putting that under the read more. You've been warned 😅

Episode 1:

"Maybe this magical music spark is just the thing this talent show needs! I'm entertained! ...Don't tell Draculaura I said that by the way." – narrator cares about Draculaura's opinion; Drac is also the first character the narrator focuses on and mentions by name, which would make sense for Kiyomi

Episode 2:

"First up is Cleooo~ Because she demanded it..." [audible nonexistent eyes rolling] "Ooh, haha, sorry boo~" – narrator unimpressed and even disdainful of Cleo demanding to go first, reacts smugly about her getting interrupted; first use of calling people "boo"

"This isn't exactly a witchcraft-friendly environment... Especially not with Dracula in the audience." – seems to be in favor of witchcraft, sympathetic to Draculaura's plight

"Thankfully our ghoul Iris is on it!" – seems to have a soft spot for Iris, in contrast to Cleo

"That magical music spark might be an agent of chaos, but it sure knows how to put on a showw~! 10/10" – all about a good show despite the chaos, aka narrator is a theater kid

Episode 3:

[Heath accidentally lights his picture of earth on fire] "Ooh, symbolism! Dark! Listen, if this takes a magical musical turn? I will not be upset about it." – narrator is a theater kid +1

"Poor Iris. She's poured her eternal soul into the show and has no idea what in the Hades is going on." – very sympathetic to Iris; the specific mention of Iris having an eternal soul and using "what in the Hades" makes me think of River Styxx, which would also line-up better personality-wise...

"Iris, watch out! ...Oh. She can't hear me." – narrator is watching the musical in-world, but not in-person; maybe scrying, or looking through a portal like Kiyomi's powers?

Episode 4:

"Our stinky little spark is just getting started!" – fun fact: the narrator's VA calls herself a "stinky voice actor" on her instagram bio, so if she had input on that line that'd be super cute lol

"Our boos are relieved, and now they can focus on getting the show back up and running. Personally, I prefer the drama. ...And it looks like the drama loves me too! I see you~" – Boo counter +1, narrator is a theater kid count +1000

Episode 5:

"You know what this moment needs? A heartfelt song!" – narrator loves the tropes, more for the theater kid pile

[clapping enthusiastically after Draculaura's song specifically] "What a performance!!" – sus

Episode 6:

"Calling all boos! Calling all boos!" – Boo counter +1

"Iris clearly wants to join the fun, but right now she's putting the sigh in 'cyclops'. Thankfully, this night is full of surp-eye-ses!" [squeals in delight and self-satisfaction] "That was a good one." – focus on Iris again, and even by MH standards, this is some unabashed pun tomfoolery

Episode 7:

"It's happening! It's happening!!" – narrator is very excited by Iris finally getting a chance at the spotlight

"I'm not crying, there's just something in my nonexistent eyes." – aforementioned "nonexistent eyes"; seems especially moved by Iris's song, maybe finds it relatable?

Episode 8:

"This is my favorite part of the night! The grand finale! Draculaura, where are you going?? We need your vocal range!" – narrator is a theater kid +∞

"I know it seems like capturing the spark will fix your mistake, but, boo, sometimes, you just gotta go with it." – Boo counter +1

"One thing is for certain: I'm enrolling at Monster High next semester! See you scaaare! Booo~!" – two uses of boo this ep, and iirc, this use of ''see you scare'' is new, maybe a nod towards ghosts haunting?

So from this we can gather the narrator is an enthusiastic, bubbly ghost who loves a good show (but not people trying to hog the spotlight), is here for the chaos, and really likes Draculaura and Iris.

Despite her being a literal kid-of-the-theater, I don't get Operetta vibes from this narrator. And though she's bubbly like Sirena Von Boo, there isn't any sea-related wordplay that hints to being a mermaid. River Styxx is also pretty upbeat and cheery though, loves to entertain, and is connected to Greek mythology through her uncle Charon. But that mention of nonexistent eyes, the way some of the narrator's dialogue hints at a special interest in Draculaura, and the possibility they were watching the show through a portal, are all reminiscent of Kiyomi.

The narrator doesn't seem shy and soft-spoken like Kiyomi in g1, but g3's already established its characters aren't meant to be the same as those in g1. And in Kiyomi's case that'd probably be a good thing. The wiki mentions she's self-consciously lawful, cares a lot about honor, and can't stand when people complain, which, as the only explicitly Japanese character (and one of the only two explicitly east Asian characters) in g1, is...a little too much of a stereotype, for my taste. So change is good.

Kinda feel like the narrator could be a mix of Kiyomi Haunterly and River Styxx, both in personality and background. Maybe shy around other people, but more playful and spirited when she's by herself, hence she feels more comfortable watching from a distance and relates to Iris's insecurities. G1 Kiyomi was also brave and curious though, so it'd be interesting if g3 leaned into that a bit more, especially from an angle of her being passionate about performance—maybe stemming from Japanese theater. But then also having River's relation to Charon and connections to Greek myth.

I always thought their characters had very similar color palettes and aesthetics for being introduced in the same line, more so than the rest of the characters, though the line had a lot of pastels and flowy, sheer fabrics overall. And as much as I love River Styxx's design, we didn't see much of her character at all, because she wasn't a main player in Haunted and there were so many other characters that needed more focus as part of the story, like Kiyomi. Personally, I'd like to see g3 introduce new characters as well as bring back old ones, but that's a lot of characters. So combining the most interesting ideas from certain characters that were one-note or didn't get much chance to shine in g1 seems like a smart way to go. Better than leaving some really cool concepts behind entirely, I think.

As a final note, earlier I briefly mentioned the narrator's voice actor, who I found through IMDB. Her name is Merk Nguyen, an openly queer, Vietnamese American who seems very sweet! Not exactly sure what that'd say for the narrator's cultural background, since Kiyomi was specifically a noppera-bō from Japanese folklore, and g3 has been pretty good about their casting in regards to cultures so far. But if the narrator is meant to be Kiyomi and they go for another character with mixed backgrounds, I'd be very happy to see it!

1. Show Me Love (Airing now with English subs!) Summary: Meena, a small-town girl, moves to Bangkok to achieve her dreams. She chances across Cherlyn who asks her to join an agency to compete in the Miss Grand beauty pageant. Meena initially turns it down because she’s not interested. However, she agrees after receiving an offer of a large monthly sum throughout the competition. Meena’s journey for the crown begins and an unexpected romance with Cherlyn sparks.

2. Love of Secret (already aired and ready to watch) Summary: Panpan is a medical student with a dream of becoming an idol. She's forced to conceal that dream because her father is a famous surgeon who hopes his daughter will go on to become a doctor like himself. What's more, Panpan is concealing her relationship with Aitim, her girlfriend, best friend, and biggest fan.

3. 23.5 (THE most anticipated gl in herstory #MilkLove4Eva) Summary: Ongsa, a loner all her life, falls in love at first sight with the more popular Sun. Each gl will follow one main couple and have their own plot line, but the gls all happen in the same Be Mine universe. So the characters all know each other or are related to others in the adaptions and have history (like The L Word but hopefully not as poorly written). The first to air will be More & More (Tawan & Winnie), then Be My Baby (Sitang & Jaojay), followed by Be My Sugar (Perth & Piphim), and finally Be My Boo (Phapie & Jaokha). M&M's supposedly airing sometime in 2023. Fingers crossed the scheduling sticks!

Azarin is the leader of a Bozjan resistance engineering unit, the Fireflies; so called that because often all you can see are the sparks from their welding machines deep in the night. She works tirelessly in service of the Resistance, and previously found a close friend in Misija. Her betrayal shattered Aza, and in the aftermath she doubled her zeal for Bozjan independence, as she doesn't wish for anyone else to fall victim to the conflict.

She's a Bozjan Cannoneer (aka Machinist) and has a big fuck ass cannon called Frou because it makes that noise as it winds down after being used.

Her wife, Iris, is a former magitek artificer and they both love to reverse-engineer Garlean designs to work with aether. After Bozja and Dalmasca were freed she wished to travel and see the world. Lucky that Iris agreed.

Iris was once part of the IVth Imperial Legion under Menenius sas Lanatus. After an accident during a Bozjan ruins exploration, Iris was declared KIA, though a Firefly member found and delivered her near-dead self to his leader Azarin who took charge and made sure Iris received immediate medical attention.

Initially resistant to the Bozjans' hospitality, Iris refused to talk, until one day she realised that Azarin was attaching an aether converter to a magitek cannon (aka Frou). She corrected the Hrothgar's attempt and from then on, they became friends through their shared love of machinery and engineering.

Bereft of a homeland to return to, Iris threw her lot with the Resistance... and Azarin. They fell in love, and became a powerhouse of engineer couple, feared for their quick wit and ingenuity. After Bozja and Dalmasca were freed, she and Azarin made ready to travel the world, eager to finally enjoy peace and freedom that they'd been denied for so long.

Ash wasn't pleasant when meeting Volo, he doesn't know why but he knows Arceus told him something about it but he just can't remember what he said, Ash could only try and wait until the memory slowly comes back.

"Ash!" Rei and Akari both called, they have been occasionally visiting him after talking with him, they think he's weird and confusing but he's very cool to be around! (And maybe scary) but however they seemed to be interested in Ash's knowledge about all sorts of pokemon, for example, how rapidash's fire won't burn you if it trusts you enough.

Well, for Ash…he can't help but stare at Akari, no, dawn.

He can see the mark of Arceus on her right eye, her iris, he felt upset but only sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck. Dawn had told him that she woke up in this world with barely any memory and only her Arc-phone telling her to collect every pokemon in the region, he's pretty sure Arceus accidentally slipped and let her head hit the ground first.

"Kamado slowed us down, we're so sorry for being late!" Akari explained, well, Ash only laughed that off, the old man of course wouldn't let them go to him that easily, he knows he's an outsider so he doesn't mind it.

..well kinda, it drilled a little bit into him, the distrust, the looks, the...hatred.

"It's okay! I understand." Ash chuckled, "are you guys ready to train with your pokemons?"

"Yes!" The twin yelled and Rei let out his pokemon from her pokeball, while Akari just let his pokemon jump out of his shoulder, Rei looked at Akari as if he's confused.

Akari has an oshawott while Rei has a cyndaquil, truly opposites yet the same, Ash slightly smiled at this fact.

"...Um Akari? Why is your cyndaquil out of your pokeball?"

"Ah! I uh.." Akari scratched her face and then looked at Ash pleadingly to explain.

Ash sighed, "well, Rei, if you trust your pokemon enough outside of the pokeball in a lot of cases it would strengthen your relationship with them, like a partner." He explains, but Rei only tilted his head.

"But pokemons are wild and scary! They can knock you out if you don't have your guard up, or even worse." Rei shivers,

"Do you think your pokemons will do that to you?" Ash crosses his arms, "they only act like that because you weren't friendly to them, sometimes treating them like a friend or a living being in general can be a great key."

Rei looked awkwardly between Ash and his Cyndaquil, Ash briefly chuckled again, "I'll give you an example." Ash snapped his finger and suddenly Pikachu appeared out of thin air, Akari and Rei shooked.

"You see, Pikachu here is always beside me, or somewhat near because he's my partner, he knows what I say and I know what he say, for example;" Ash whispered something to Pikeachu's ear and Pikachu replied with a cheerful 'Pika!' like usual.

Pikachu leaped off of Ash's shoulder and disappeared again, leaving a trail of small yellow sparks before it came back with a basket of apples, "Don't worry, this is our basket, we didn't steal anything." Ash took two apples from the basket and as Pikachu set down the basket, Ash gave him his favorite berry and he chirped excitedly.

"I trust he will come back to me and won't cause trouble, I trust that we will come at each other whenever we're in need of each other, in danger or something else." Ash explains, Pikachu turned to Akari and Rei.

"Pika pika! Pikachu!" Pikachu said and the twin pokemon stared at each other before they looked at their trainer, Ash stared for a while, waiting for their reaction.

Rei was amazed, Akari was… well he knows she's just gonna teach Rei too even if it's unconsciously, "it takes time though, but don't worry, it'll work out if you and your partner tries."

Rei's face that was full of doubt and confusion suddenly turned into a face full of determination, Akari was already on the move, talking to her oshawott and getting the both of them fired up, Rei was slow to do that, he throws around words of motivation, and slowly and surely, his pokemon starts to catch his determination.

"Well then, who wants to go first?" Ash stretches his arm before rubbing the back of his neck.

Volo doesn't wanna know why he's here again, finding the two members of the galactic Corps training with Ash ketchum, who definitely looks like he's more experienced than them, he has proven that after defeating multiple rampaging Alpha pokemons.

He arrived when the both of them were at the last minutes of fighting each other, and Ash who seemed amused ended the training right then and there with one Thunderbolt, Ash congratulates them on improving, after a few minutes of talking and then when they walked just far enough so that they couldn't hear the both of them Volo approached Ash.

Ash, who slowly turned his head to Volo, looking at him with those uncanny eyes for a second before he smiled and it all seemed to just fade away right after that, Volo kept up his merchant smile and walked towards Ash.

"Well how is my amazing customer today?" Volo greeted only to be greeted by Ash with a laugh,

"I bet you say that to every customer." He said, and Volo chuckled before nodding,

"I have a new product from overseas, do you want to see it?" Volo asked and Ash stayed quiet for a second, awkwardly scratching his neck.

"No, not today, I don't have any money for now." Ash tells him and Volo sighed from slight disappointment, well it's not his fault anyways because no way in God's way that this kid will find a job, he can't join the galactic Corps because Kamado would be against it probably since he's exiled from the Jubilife village, and other job requires him to be over 16 probably.

"But can I ask you to join me for lunch?" Ash asked, and Volo was surprised at the offer. Volo agreed and sat down beside him, looking at his tent it seemed like it got a little bigger than the last time he saw it, Ash poked the fire with a stick before calling for Pikachu.

Much to Volo's belief, Ash's Pikachu brought three wooden bowls and a spoon to them, "Thankyou Pikachu, I know I can count on you." Ash said to the pikachu as if it's his friend and started filling out the bowls with the newly cooked soup,

"Have you heard about the legend of Giratina?" Volo perked up at the sudden mention of the legendary,

"...yes, I know that legend very well." Volo replied, and Ash hummed,

"It is said that he's one of the first creation of Arceus,"

He? Why is he talking about a Legendary pokemon as if it's a human?

"Along with Palkia, Dialga, and others." He continues, "but then he was banished by Arceus because he was too violent," Ash chuckled at that part, "well that ended up in him being the ruler of the distortion world, the lake guardian was supposed to be keeping an eye on him but Arceus underestimated his power, he was the closest thing that's power comes near him."

"He's either called the Fallen angel, but with what I said the last few seconds he seemed more like a corrupted God rather than that." Ash's eyes narrowed.

Volo's smile faltered for a bit before he was almost shoved a bowl full of soup, Volo hesitantly took it, "..how did you know about that last part of the legend? About Giratina being the closest thing to Arceus?" He asked, and Ash hummed while rubbing his own neck once again, Volo had to admit, it was a weird gimmick of Ash before he narrows his eye down to why Ash was rubbing his own neck, there was a scar surrounding it.

"It's a legend, everyone comes up with different versions of it." Ash shrugged, before chugging down on the soup, and no matter how Volo looks at him he looks like a very energetic teenager, but no, this kid sounds old.

Volo ate with him, although he quickly lost his appetite while thinking about what Ash said, and once he put the bowl down, Ash looked at him and said;

"Do you know how powerful a Legendary is?"

Ash looked at him straight in the eyes,

He continues, "It almost feels like you have a God in your hand, I can't blame people who thought of that, the legendaries are powerful enough to control wind, lightning, plants, fire and everything else." Ash grinned, "but just like in the stories about greed, those people didn't end well."

"Yeah." Volo smiled before standing up, "Thankyou for the food, Ash, sadly I have to excuse myself"

"Don't be sad, you'll find me later anyways." Ash chuckled, "goodbye then, Volo."

Volo walked away.

"And be careful." Ash said to him as he was walking away.

And as he was walking, he thought.

'What's wrong with that kid!?'

He knows

He KNOWS something's wrong with him, with that kid.

He was scared of that kid, he was a menace, no wonder Kamado exiled him! He was so blunt and acted as if pokemons are not wild animals that are feral, dangerous, and- he should talk to Cogita about this, he should ask if what Ash said was true.

Soon after he arrived in Cogita's land once again, "Cogita!" Volo called and she peeked her head out of her house, with a loud sigh she replies;

"Yes Volo?"

"Can you tell me the legend of Giratina again? I...need to confirm something, can you make sure it's the full story?" Volo sat down on a chair there, and Cogita raised an eyebrow at him,

"Oh? You don't usually like to repeat a story you heard before."

"Yeah- well I just need to make sure.. of something." Volo scoff in irritation,

Cogita can only pout and proceed to tell him about the legend, in full detail, including its relation to Arceus, Volo was however unsatisfied at the story, he guess he can see the resemblance in Giratina being a God if it is close to Arceus but it's still a pokemon nonetheless, just like the other legendaries.

"This doesn't line up, at all." Volo whispered.

iris rambles dont mind me

(before reading: for context, iris is a radiant whose powers revolve around the creation of bubbles. while harmless on surface level, said bubbles can alter reality of whatever gets encapsulated into it.)

thinking abt Iris's lore makes me so emo as fuck. i can envision her character trailer is so deceptive, she's just going about living her normal life in a city that looks a bit too whimsical to be real. everything looks fine and alright though, because she's happy, the people she (seemingly) knows in her world are happy. she has a routine that... strangely almost never changes too much but that's okay bc--despite also having strange and eerie flashbacks of a lab-controlled life for some reason--everything is fine!

and then some "anomalies" (aka radiant agents from the VP, as they can only safely enter. any other human who enters an illusion this strong likely goes insane) enter her bubble world. she's trying to get rid of them, even more so try to force them into this lie. but as radiants, they're mostly resistant to whatever's happening within. whoever is in that team are trying so hard to make her snap out of it, and probably one of them finally asks her "what's your name?"

and this causes Iris to lose her shit because she finally realizes that she doesn't even have a real name. the people who created her never gave her one, save for the serial number she was assigned. the memories of her childhood and adolescence in the lab flood back too fast, with the only good one being that of her caretaker who affectionately called Iris her "little bubble". ultimately, her entire facade falls apart and she's forced to face reality, and the fact that all the citizens living in her word are just imaginary fragments based on people who died in her presence.

the VP takes her back, hoping to find a way to help her recuperate and recover. i'd imagine she's just a hollow shell of her idealized self as she sits in the interrogation room, refusing to talk for a long time. only with cypher's help do they discover that the young lady before them doesn't even have a genuine identity, and that she was the product of an unsanctioned and immoral effort to clone the earliest radiants. additionally, his expertise allowed him to finally uncover the name of the Jane Doe whom she was cloned from: Yeojin Chae.

Cypher presents the woman's story to the young girl, and despite the tragedy of her ending, it somehow manages to ignite something inside her: the first sparks of determination and hope. knowing the girl had nowhere else to go, she's offered sanctuary with the VP. almost immediately, she asks to join their ranks.

she spends some time improving her condition though, and while she's still plagued by trauma, she figures joining them is the only way she can find worth in herself in a reality that she now has to fight for. before her formal induction, she's given the opportunity to choose her own name-- at least so she could be identified. the girl settles on "Yeojin", the name of the woman she was cloned from.

i can definitely see someone like Astra being her radiant mentor. somewhere along that timeline, Yeojin earns her callsign of "Iris", and ultimately finds a new family--the dying wish of her caretaker--within the VP

The Chaos Insurgency building is quiet for once tonight.

Crickets chirped outside the gates. Cicadas were droning from the grassy plains and the sky shimmered with stars. Perhaps tonight was to be the longest this building has ever been quiet for some time if not for the two captives that intel had “borrowed” from their rival company.

The corridors have a hollow hum in its interior. Tonight, it was disrupted by the squelch of fluids followed by a shrill scream.

A burnt hand belonging to a soldier plopped down onto the ground.

Joining it was a spleen, a rib, and a foot twitching with little sparks of light. Two webbed hands slammed into the body’s abdomen. Bolts of bright lighting roasted it’s corpse to a crispy shade of black. Around the corpse’s neck was a pair of handcuffs that once held #7948 captive, aka the anomaly that the soldier had the balls to call a “wimp”.

The Iris of its one visible eye, the other hidden under its bangs, stared daggers at the corpse with a coy toothy grin.

Sirens screeched an ear-piercing signal that sent a torrent of militia rushing to the corridor.

Guns that were blasting bullets now clattered on hard titanium tilted floor

What echoed through the building was the warbled roar that belonged to the figure who dashed along the ceiling. It dodged the bullets that left dents along a neat line on the ceiling, slithering swiftly into an open air vent.

“Don’t stand there, jackass! Get th-“

Another soldier had his sentence cut short when a pair of dark green claws punctured the flesh of his throat. Rows of teeth yanked at his uniform before his body was ripped in half by the claws.

A few soldiers shot at the reptile as quick as they could.

Whatever bullets somehow hit its body felt like nothing more than the bite of a mosquito.

Its eyes—a haunting hue of yellow—flashed bright with infuriated bloodlust.

A swipe of the anomaly’s tail decapitated the heads of three other sentries that charged towards it.

Looking down at the squirming guard in its grip, #682 lifted him up high above the floor

It tossed the two halves of the body onto the floor. A loud “thud” echoed and the corpse was slathered in a pool of his own entrails. The fragrance of blood wafted through its nose, a familiar smell he’s fond of

#682 growled a nearby soldier that backed away slowly from it in attempt to catch off guard with a bullet.

A snarling noise forced her to look up above the open air vent oozing with a red sticky trickle of down-pouring blood.

Sasha leapt out of the air vent, sticking the end of its tail straight into the brain of the unsuspecting sentry, making her drop her gun as it electrocutes her.

It’s tail slid out to rip off the sentry’s head with Sasha taking a hearty bite out of the the abdomen of its limp prey.

Blood spurted out, drenching some of the soldiers so much they they can’t see.

It scampered off the body to go and rip out the jugular veins of another soldier trio among the clutter of guns collapsing onto the tiles.

As vocal cords were being torn left to right, another group of soldiers stormed in only to slip on the puddles of blood below. Multiple skulls cracked against the titanium while a few had brains split open from the impact.

Sasha dove back into the vent from before, a soldier accidentally slamming their face into the vent edges and squishing their face straight through the glass of the helmet.

Hiro unhinged its jaw to chomp a couple soldiers in half, gleefully adding onto the carnage of the hallway.

Sasha emerged out of the vent again in a flash of an electrical adrenaline rush, paralyzing some more soldiers.

Red flares of light harmonized with the blaring sirens from above. A fitting setting for the eruption of insanity that stirred within the halls. The Insurgency’s steel plated walls—once clear steel—now painted with splotches of warm viscera and broken bones.

Hiro roared as its hands slashed open the throats of charging sentries, blood spraying in individual rays of droplets staining its skin and shirt.

Another soldier ran but tripped over a blue tail that clutched her and pulled her into an open vent.

Sasha emerged with a sparking, twitching corpse in its grip before tossing it to three more sentries, shocking them all along wit it.

Screams and sirens surrounded the area but the sound of the anomalies blood spilling drowned out the silenced voices.

Hiro ripped out a soldier’s liver before slamming it into his brain and dragging out the rest of his organs in a trail of sickly sweet stenches.

Bullet shells and torn or electrified bodies littered the floor.

Sasha pounded across the floor, emitting 800 volts of light and striking a group of soldiers upon instant contact before they could even aim their guns at it. She dove into the group with hands sparking wildly with volts.

A loud crash of thunder launched the soldiers into a bloody clump of mangles bodies.

Hiro jumped onto the wall behind a soldier, scaling the building. It ripped out their spine with his own teeth, tossing the open-spined corpse in the air like a chew toy.

The corpse slammed smack into a wall. It slid down, a splatter of blood slid down with it. The hinges holding the one slab of wall together fell apart.

It swung down and crushed three more soldier against the wall, splitting their waists from their torsos.

One moment, the two anomalies were chained up behind a solder after a lengthy capture. But now they were mauling any solder and every soldier they can get their claws on.

The corridor had become a dingy, dry-blood coated, gut spilled plethora or a massacre, all because the damn Insurgency had chosen to “borrow” them from the Foundation without any warning.

A call command rang out on the P.A system for the soldier to retreat.

Two loud roars, Hiro and Sasha respectively, sent the surviving guards to scurry through the guts and bones and through the exit. With the last of the soldiers who were barely alive, escaping via the call command, the corridor was silent once again with the exception of blood slowly dripping into a puddle from above the ceiling.

The sickly sweet smell of organs were in every nook and cranny of the corridor.

Yasuhiro was standing above a soldier’s crushed skull with Sasha standing before another soldier’s charred corpse.

Relief filled the two anomalies that looked at each other in the middle of the hall.

Sasha wiped the residue of blood off its face. She stumbled a little while hurrying towards Hiro, bloody footprints trailing from her webbed feet and tip of iys tail. The humanoid reptile approached the eel woman without hesitation.

Yasuhiro held Sasha tight,sliding down against a bloody wall with Sasha in its arms.

It lifted its feet up to its chest, cuddling the humanoid reptile.

“Huh….it feels like a date.”

Sasha’s voice is sore from roaring but not so sore that Hiro couldn’t hear it. And it heard Sasha loud and clear.

“We should do this more often.”

“Maybe…”

Sasha nuzzled against Hiro as he ran its hands through its hair. That didn’t stop them from hearing the clack of two familiar pairs of shoes on the ground.

“Oh for crap’s sake!”

A slightly exhausted from running Dr Akamatsu and a conceded Dr Gokuhara stood upon the organ-scattered hall of the corridor.

“Those damn soldiers don’t tget it…”

“Gonta shall contact breach center.” The tall man smiled.

Kaede gave him a halfhearted smile.

“Remind me to get a mocha while you’re at it..”

Bailey's hands were shaking when they managed to comm back to base.

"Poppet?" Slipknot's voice came through. "What's wrong?"

Because it was far too soon for them to be touching base if things were going right.

"C- cold," Bailey gasped out. "Hur- hurts. Need h- help."

"I'm tracking your comm, I'll be there right away. Are you somewhere safe enough to stay there until I can get to you?" their mentor asked.

"I think- I think so?" Bailey managed.

"Then stay put. I'm coming to get you."

The line went dead.

Bailey tried to stay awake in the meantime, they really did. But they were just so cold. They'd found shelter after the fight had gone bad, enough to both keep the rain off them and keep the heroes from finding them, but that didn't change the fact that they were soaked. It felt like they barely blinked, and then Slipknot was there shaking them.

Bailey cried out as the movement made all their wounds sit up and proclaim their existence. Loudly.

"Sorry, little poppet," Slipknot said. "But I need you awake. What happened?"

Bailey groaned through their teeth. "Wasn't just Spark," they said. "Was Tempest, too."

"What? Tempest was here? Why didn't you call for backup?"

"Tried to," Bailey said. "Think Spark had done something, dampened the signals maybe? Comm didn't work until later. I called you first thing."

"Okay," Slipknot said, sounding calmer. "Can you walk?"

Bailey shook their head, biting their lip to stay quiet. "My leg," they said, when they could manage more than inarticulate groans of pain. "Dunno know what's wrong, but she got it with her staff, and it burns."

Slipknot swore quietly. "The two of them. Using lightning against anyone is excessive, I don't care who they are. I'm sorry, Poppet. I thought this was going to be something you could handle. I wouldn't have sent you here if I had known it was going to be this big a job."

They looped one arm under Bailey's knees and the other behind their back. Slowly, gently, they carried Bailey to safety.

Notes: it isn't full lightning, but Spark/Iris has some electro-generation ability along with her technopath powers. Combining that with Tempest's wind and weather control, and a metal staff makes for a great conductor to hit your enemies with.

(There are some serious miscommunications going on as to why they think that much force is appropriate.)

A Cup of Judgement Episode Differences!

Alright @baa-whatever, here’s the differences in episodes I’ve thought up so far.

HANDLE WITH CARE

-As mentioned before, in this episode’s equivalent, one of the Devil’s horns snaps off during the blindfolded pillow fight. This decision was mostly made because I feel the Devil would probably care more about his appearance than Harold.

-Iris is more startled than horrified by what happened

-Yes, the bride scene still happens. Yes, it’s just as fabulous as it is in canon.

-STICKLER, AS THE DEVIL IS FREAKING OUT: I don’t see any problems.

THE DEVIL: (Sparks fly from his fur) NOBODY ASKED YOU, STICKLER!

-Somehow the Devil is more melodramatic that Mugman in this.

-HAROLD: Wow, I hope the Horn Fairy comes to give me adult horns soon!

-IRIS, CONSIDERING THE FACT THAT THIS WILL PROBABLY HAPPEN AGAIN:…I’m sure you’ll meet her eventually, Harold.

-The episode ends with these two head butting each other and knocking each other out.

ROLL THE DICE (which will probably need a name change)

-Harold takes Cuphead’s role in this so the cluelessness will kinda be in character

-Here’s the show is just a normal gameshow…that just so happens to be hosted by a ghost

-Nobody knows this, of course. Chalice uses her physical form to host the show

-Instead of bringing the Devil onto the stage and recognizing him, she sees him in the front row of the audience

-Instead of Cuphead’s jokes, Harold tells stories that would actually be pretty funny…if he could remember them.

-Cuphead was taking a nap when Chalice called, so his confusion is mostly grogginess

-Harold still loses the game show (even though Devil tries to help him cheat), so Chalice just panics and forcibly grabs the Devil from the audience

-In response, he bites her, and she turns ghost in order to escape him. This causes mass panic, as expected.

-Instead of the tire rolling in, she gets smacked by an exit door someone rushes out of

-When Mugman takes over her show, instead of falling into the band section, he ends up freezing on stage from stage fright. Yes, Angel!Mugman has stage fright because that idea is hilarious to me.

SAY CHEESE

-Instead of the Diaper Baby advertisement, the boys discover a mural of Tar (also one of baa-whatever’s OCs). Iris has no idea how to explain all of this to them since they’re, you know, children

-As a result, the boys think Tar’s just a cool uncle Iris has never introduced them to because he went to jail. Since they’ve been to jail, they think they should get to meet him

-Iris tries to convince them otherwise.

-IRIS, TRYING TO CONVINCE HAROLD NOT TO FIND TAR: (thumbs down) Causing the apocalypse. (thumbs up) Not causing the apocalypse! (thumbs down) Causing the apocalypse. (thumbs up) Not causing the apocalypse!

-Eventually, he ends up having to chase them down

-Iris is…probably less than thrilled with the family mugshot. Or he could be just as fine with it as Elder Kettle.

DIRT NAP

-Instead of thinking the boys are trying to kill him, Iris thinks someone is trying to kill the Devil and Harold.

-The truth: the boys are trying to get a rabbit out of their dad’s garden. In their defense, the rabbit is Hopus Pocus.

-This all starts with both of them getting stuck in a tree together and being secretive about how it happened.

-Iris tries to rationalize everything that’s happening, but his worry slowly starts to get the better of him

-This all reaches a head when the Devil gets a black eye and refuses to talk about how it happened (Hopus used his magic to fling the little dude into the fence)

-This causes Iris to decide to “get serious” (aka booby trapping the living room)

-Harold accidentally triggers the alarm, causing Iris to come out weapons blazing…and promptly get slammed around and blown up by his own traps.

-IRIS: So nobody was threatening you two?

HAROLD: (Goes to talk about how Cuphead wants to lock away the Devil)

DEVIL: (Quickly) Nope, nothing’s wrong!

IN CHARM’S WAY/CHARMED AND DANGEROUS

-The boys end up meeting Dice while running errands while Iris takes a VERY well-deserved nap

-Dice is more focused on stealing things while tricking/charming people than getting free stuff

-“Turn Up the Charm” is a lot jazzier than in canon

-There is a bit of ship tease between Dice and Devil, starting with Devil being impressed by Dice’s skills

-Instead of floating through a wall, Dice simply climbs out of the window

-Not entirely sure about Charmed and Dangerous, but I DO know there’s gonna be ship tease (ex: instead of turning into a ghost, Dice gives the Devil a kiss on the cheek…which promptly cause the Devil to light on fire)

THE SWEATER SAGA

-The nightmare is basically the same, except Cuphead drops the Devil into a fiery pit at the end

-The Devil also wakes up when Harold dumps a bucket of water on him, as he was lighting himself on fire in his sleep

-The party is just a normal party, but Bowlboy is creeping everyone out and nearly reveals Cuphead’s plan to kidnap the Devil.

-The sweater repels angels now, which Cuphead isn’t thrilled about

-Cuphead actually gets pretty clever here and tries to rile the Devil up until he’s overheated enough to take off the sweater. It doesn’t work, and Cuphead promptly strikes the area with lightning, like, twenty times

-IRIS: Boys, why is the fence all burnt up?

HAROLD, AS CUPHEAD HIDES IN THE BUSHES AFTER STRIKING THE FENCE WITH LIGHTNING: Uh, Devil got the hiccups again!

-Yes, Cuphead ends up painting their fence. Yes, it’s just as glorious as in canon. He makes it extravagant solely to prove a point to these literal children

-Turns out, the Devil and Cuphead still have the same sense of humor here

-Knowing he won’t be able to save the Devil in time if he runs, Harold flies over to stop Cuphead with the sweater. He ends up slamming into the angel’s face and tying it to him

-Cuphead ends up with a face that looks like he’s been sunburned badly, while the Devil ends up missing a bit of fur from the ride

CUPHEAD’S SPEAR (aka the Devil’s Pitchfork)

-Here, Cuphead’s depressed about Iris getting suspicious about his activities and essentially putting him under house arrest unless he’s officially approved a trip to Earth.

-Cuphead does good deeds in order to give himself a cleanse/ego boost…and forgets his spoon/spear on Earth, which Mugman notices almost immediately.

-Harold ends up eating ice cream with the spoon, while the Devil causes chaos with it as a spear. This should give you a pretty good idea of their priorities.

-Mugman is less than thrilled with this plan/impromptu child kidnapping

-When Cuphead and Mugman take Harold, the Devil tries to fight Cuphead to get him back. This just leads to Cuphead kicking him into a tree in a panic and Devil getting a head injury.

(Bonus: until the third season comes out, I’m just going to imagine Iris coming to heaven and freaking out about how one of his kids is missing and his other kid came home with a head injury. Meanwhile, Cuphead is in the background, slowly beginning to realize that MAYBE this wasn’t the best idea)

BONUS

-Iris is just exasperated by the boys getting turned into candy and coating the house in frosting during Sweet Temptations because he has honestly seen worse at this point

-Release the Angels (aka Release the Demons) has Chalice falling from Heaven screaming while angelic music plays instead of Dice running out of Inkwell Hell while dramatic music plays. Also Cuphead still unleashes the Four Horsemen because why not-

-Dead Broke happens because Dice won a game of cards against the Blind Specter and made him do whatever Dice wanted for the entire day

-In the I Scream Man, Iris has to deal with both Harold beating up the ice cream man and the Devil raiding the ice cream truck

-The Devil just gets fluffier during Lost In the Woods

-Stickler ends up acting dangerously in Another Brother, despite this being wildly out of character for him, because the Devil tries to give him lessons on how to be the perfect brother…which Stickler promptly turns up to eleven

Ranking The Flash's Kids

Jimmy Garrick: 10/10

Buckle in folks, this one is sad. Little Jimmy Garrick was adopted by Joan and Jay Garrick shortly after World War Two. Jimmy was only four months old when he came into their lives and less than two weeks later Jimmy died of pneumonia. Although Joan and Jay had always wanted to be parents, the heartbreak was too much to bear and they never attempted to adopt again.

Jimmy gets a 10/10 for me because even though he was only in their lives for a short time, he meant the world to Joan and Jay.

Dawn and Don Allen: 5/10

The Tornado Twins are sharing a ranking because I have 12 kids here and Tumblr only allows ten photos. They got the same ranking anyway so it works. Dawn and Don Allen are Barry Allen and Iris West-Allen's biological children. Born in the future (after Barry and Iris time travelled there to retire) they grew up without their father as Barry had died saving the world. Both were born with superspeed and they became the heroes 'The Tornado Twins'. Don is the father of Bart Allen aka Impulse (and technically the genetic father of Thaddeus Thawne aka Inertia) and Dawn is the mother of Jenni Ognats aka XS. Both twins died saving the world from an alien invasion.

They both get a 5/10 because while they are very nice and their kids are awesome, ultimately, they don't really do much. On one hand, I get it, they're dead. But on the other hand? Dead speedsters show up all the time, so not really an excuse. The twins are great but DC needs to use them more.

Nora Allen: 3/10

Nora Allen is the daughter of Barry Allen and Jessica Cruz (aka Green Lantern). Nora is from an alternate universe where Jessica and Barry got married instead of Iris and Barry. Nora inherited Barry's speed and uses it to fight in her apocalyptic version of earth. She is the oldest of Barry and Jess' children and is dating Wonder Woman's son.

Nora is getting a 3/10. The Barry and Jess thing is just too weird. I'm not a fan of the age gap between Barry and Jess and I'm certainly not a fan of Barry marrying anyone but Iris. Nora seems nice enough but her design is just meh.

Jason and Jenny Allen: 4/10

From the same universe as Nora Allen, Jason Allen is the middle child and older twin to Jenny Allen. Jason (presumably named after Jason 'Jay' Garrick) was not born with superspeed but rather the full range of Lantern Light. Jenny also has 'Lantern Light' powers, like her twin, and they both seem to have problems controlling it. Barry and Jess are dead in this universe which had effected all of the kids but Jenny seemed to take it the hardest.

Jason is getting a higher ranking than Nora (4/10) only because his design and powers are a little bit more creative. He wasn't just a copy'n'paste of his parents which I like. He's still getting a lower rank, however, for the reasons I listed for Nora.

Like her twin brother, Jenny is getting a 4/10 and for all the same reasons. The design is a little bit more creative and the powers are neat. Nothing more to say really.

Joshua Jackam: 10/10

Are we counting Joshua Jackam as Wally West's kid or Barry Allen's kid? Josh is a tricky case but I wanted to add him because he's so cute. Warning, this one is sad as well. Joshua Jackam was believed to be Wally West's son with his ex girlfriend, Julie Jackam. Josh displayed lightning powers incredibly similar to Wally's speedforce lightning. It was later revealed that Josh was actually Weather Wizard's biological child. After Julie's death, Josh was adopted by none other than Iris West, Barry Allen's wife. Josh was ultimately killed not long after by Thaddeus Thawne. Now I'm counting Josh because Iris adopted him and even though Barry wasn't alive to meet him, this makes him Barry's adopted son in spirit to me.

Josh is getting a 10/10 because this little spark plug is an absolute cutie. There was a while where Iris couldn't show up in anything without Josh in her arms and I think it's adorable that the two of them were that close.

Iris 'Irey' West II: 10/10

Iris 'Irey' West the Second is the daughter of Wally West and Linda Park. Irey was born with a strange connection to the speedforce which caused her to rapidly age and made her powers manifest as intangibility rather than superspeed at first. After she fixes her speedforce connection (by taking her brother's half of it) she develops full blown superspeed and takes on the mantle of Impulse.

Irey gets a 10/10. She's smart, she's cute, she's sweet and she's fast, what more could you ask for? Sure she's a little impulsive at times but hey, what can you do? She has to live up to Bart's legacy.

Jai West: 9/10

Jai West is the twin brother to Irey West and the son of Wally and Linda. He shared a speedforce connection with his sister which caused them both to rapidly age and caused his powers to manifest as temporary super strength (he speed up the growth of his muscles). After his sister took his half of the speedforce he lost his powers completely. Although lately it's 50/50 if Jai shows up without powers or with full blown superspeed. Although he's been trained to fight, he has yet to pick an identity.

Jai is getting a 9/10. I love him as much as I love his sister but he does get a point demerit for his attitude. Saying mean things to his sister and suggesting that his father should rob a bank will unfortunately lower him to a 9/10.

Iris West II: 7/10

Iris West II, aka Kid Flash, is technically a different person than the Iris 'Irey' West II that we already ranked. This Iris is the alternate universe half sister to Irey. Although they look similar, Iris actually has a different mother because Wally didn't marry Linda in this universe. They just share the same name because Wally likes the name Iris in every universe. Iris grew up without a mother and a distant father. She was constantly trying to prove herself to her father. She wanted to show him that she could be a hero and that she would be his legacy.

Iris gets a 7/10. She's cool, her outfit rocks and she's constantly trying to help people, whether it's through volunteer work or through heroics. She gets some points off for her impulsivity. It'd be acceptable and fine if she were a child still (or even just Impulse) but as a teenager (and Kid Flash), it's not a great quality. Also she's a little bit hot headed, which she definitely gets from her father.

Barry West: 0/10

Barry West is the older brother to Iris West and is Wally West's son from an alternate universe. His mother is not Linda Park and is instead an unnamed woman that Wally married. Barry never became a hero or did anything with his life. He drinks, smokes and belittles his sister and father. He hates the Flash legacy and wants nothing to do with it. He even steals food from a charity.

0/10. Barry is the worst kid. Absolutely zero redeeming qualities. He acts like Rudy.

Johnny Tyler: 2/10

Johnny Tyler is the son of Jesse Chambers aka Jesse Quick and Rick Tyler, aka Hourman. Jesse was formerly the Flash so Johnny fits on this list. Johnny was named after his grandfather Johnny Chambers, aka Johnny Quick. Three of Johnny's grandparents were in the JSA (Johnny Quick, Liberty Belle and the original Hourman) and both of his parents are current members. So far it is unknown what powers Johnny has inherited, if any, as he is still an infant.

Last but not least (that honor goes to Barry West) is Johnny Tyler at a score of 2/10. Why is he so low? Because we've only seen him maybe twice. Where did he go? Does he even exist anymore? I don't think I've seen his parents mention him even once since Flashpoint.
