Several sources mistakenly list this character's name as "Isla Black". This seems to stem from an incorrect transcription of J.K. Rowling's handdrawn family tree by the Harry Potter Lexicon, based on observation of the original during its auction, on 20 February 2006. A scan of the original document has since surfaced, having been included in the book Harry Potter Film Wizardry, a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the Harry Potter film series. The scan clarified that Iola's name had been incorrectly transcribed by the Lexicon.
Bob was a muggle. They had eight children, all witches, Iola moved to France with her husband to escape the family's influence.

Golden trio fans on tiktok tryna tell me Sirius and Andy were the only traitors in the family 💀
Even if you don't count Reg and Cissa (which you SHOULD) how can you sleep on my man Alphard?
And do Dorea, Phineas, and Iola no longer exist?
Bella was also frowned upon even if she wasn't burnt off the tapestry because she took her views too far
This was all sparked from me saying I find the black family interesting, to which they decided I was a n@zi because 'they are all evil' and this person didn't have any other argument

Do you think that if Andromeda and Sirius apologised and wanted to come back, they'd be accepted by the Black family?
oooh this is a great question and I have thought about this a lot.
I think Sirius would be, but Andromeda wouldn't. Some of this is based on the patriarchal vibes I get from the Blacks, but also what Phineas Nigellus says when he hears that Sirius is dead. He calls Sirius the last of the Blacks, which isn't strictly true (Andromeda, Tonks, Narcissa, Bella and Draco are still alive), but it makes me think that it's because Sirius carries the name.
So, I think after Regulus's death and the weird plague that seems to hit all the other men, causing them all to drop dead in the late 80s/early 90s, they would take Sirius back because he can continue the family name.
If we look at the list of disowned members, all the women are disowned for who they marry (so Andromeda isn't special in this regard), whereas for the men, it's for 'wrong think' and being a squib.
Iola Hitchens (née Black): Marrying a muggle named Bob Hitchens
Phineas Black II: Supporting Muggle Rights
Marius Black: Being a Squib
Cedrella Weasley (née Black): Marrying the blood traitor Septimus Weasley
Andromeda Tonks (née Black): Marrying a muggle-born Ted Tonks
Sirius Black III: Being a Blood Traitor
Alphard Black: Financially supporting his disowned runaway nephew Sirius Black III
I think Sirius set a precedent as both Phineas and Marius aren't firstborn sons, and Alphard is disowned posthumously. So I think they would take him back for being both magically powerful (unlike Marius) and for being a firstborn son (unlike Phineas). I also think that Alphard being disowned was done partially because it meant that Sirius would be less likely to return if he were financially independent.

I wondered what is your favourite witcher moment? A moment/chapter that really struck with you? And why?
hmmm...
Tumblr media
as for "favorites"...
i consider baptism of fire chapter 7 to be my favorite chapter out of the saga, because every scene in it is fantastic and a personal favorite... firstly, the frame story (love a good frame story!) of the children of vyrva hearing the legend from old storyteller pogwizd. then the heartache and black humor of regis loredropping his backstory, followed by interesting intellectual discussion, geralt's company and zoltan's company being reunited, emotional shattering of geralt consoling milva, and finally, one of the best action scenes: the battle of the bridge. and geralt and regis' side conversations in this chapter really serve to illustrate just how much geralt developed as a character in this book, a major aspect of why it's my favorite in the series (imo, geralt before baptism of fire is not as compelling as during and after it).
my favorite short story is something more, for its ending with geralt and ciri. and for its scenes with calanthe, yennefer, and death, each with powerful emotion. and for how visenna appears... i actually can't get through something more without crying, i cry every time. also, of course, geralt telling dandelion that he must have gone crazy with fear if he could think that geralt would leave him there... and i also think something more is an example of incredibly good writing, in terms of weaving everything together.
my favorite setting is beauclair, i find it really beautiful and yet the most tragic, in its beauty, because our heroes cannot stay there and it's not their destiny to live happily ever after. i joke "my mind is in beauclair" but it's actually true, it's the setting for a lot of my daydreaming and there's something so magical about it.
my favorite character introduction is tied inbetween dandelion (voice of reason 5) and angouleme (tower of the swallow 5).
in ciri's story, i think tower of the swallow was her strongest book, within that i like her time spent with vysogota. and, of course the ice skating scene on tarn mira is well-written and orchestrated (my favorite detail is that bonhart realizes what she's planning, and turns back without warning any of the rest... foreboding, foreshadowing, but also, hilarious).
and maybe an unpopular opinion: i like chapter 6 of time of contempt, when ciri is in the korath desert. it was a great way to break the crazy action of chapter 4 and interconnected politics of chapter 5. i find it to be much more figurative than a lot of people see it: "oh, ciri's in the desert and has to survive." yes, that's the literal interpretation of events... but the point of it is that she's abandoned by everyone who she thought promised to never abandon her, she realizes that all she learned is useless. and she wanders the desert ("for 40 days and 40 nights," one might say). the suffering is the point. it breaks her. it's hard to change a character this drastically, it's also hard to write a chapter with just one character and their introspection without much happening (expect for ihuarraquax showing up in the middle of it, i mean). but i think it was done well and was placed in exactly the right moment with the rest of the book. time of contempt has probably the best pacing out of the series.
the witcher does "suffering" really well, that's probably why it struck such a chord with me. so anything where a hero is in anguish is well-loved (for instance, geralt's monologue to iola in voice of reason, or the ending of a grain of truth).
i also like anything that is an allusion or in reference to another work or history, particularly when i can pick up on it - either i knew it before i read, or when i've had time to look into it and research it.
in particular, i like seeing odyssey parallels, like in the last wish, how geralt and yennefer go back to this ancient topos of a hero in conflict with a witch or sorceress, using trickery to defeat her - odysseus and circe - but yennefer is the one to trick geralt instead; and then they find love genuinely, putting this manufactured conflict down, recognizing a connection, not hatred. and i also see an odysseus - circe thing with geralt and fringilla. and one of the reasons i like beauclair so much is because of the "magic land tempts heroes into staying forever, staying their quest and making them either drugged or miserable" which is like at least four different places in the odyssey: the island of the lotophagoi, circe's aiaia, calypso's ogygia, finally, scheria... someplace so perfect and beautiful that you just want to stay, but it will be your doom if you do. very metaphorical. and also on this topic, i think regis is like the anti-polyphemus, being a great host and displaying exemplary xenia, giving the heroes wine and not eating them or drinking them. it's them who get drunk, not him!
segueing from this, my favorite part of the odyssey is odysseus and telemachus. and so i really like everything about geralt and ciri, and how ciri inherits this misery of being a witcher from her father, though her future is left up to reader interpretation, i love the lines in chapter 7 of lady of the lake that she was all alone amongst an archipelago of places... i really like their story that he tried to save her by leaving her, and it was his leaving her which doomed them both. and i like how sapkowski decided for ciri to be a girl, which not only makes her interesting and unique as a hero, but also invites more interesting examination into her and geralt's relationship as a father-daughter relationship rather than a patriarchal lineage father-son inheritance. (the witcher would be so trite if ciri was a boy).
oh yes, anything relating to isolation and loneliness is a big win for me, which is also probably why i like the witcher so much, it's all about that
i have to stop writing now but i could literally go on about more favorite things for hours <3

I'm super excited for the @ladiesofhpfest, and I can't wait to share with what I've been working on with y'all! Here are some sneak peeks at what I've got planned for each theme:
Mothers and Daughters
There will hopefully be two fics, a (mostly) fluffy one about Astoria raising Scorpius and a very angsty one about Barty Crouch Jr.'s mother and her decision to take his place in Azkaban. The Mrs. Crouch one is still a WIP - I only got the idea a few days ago - but hopefully it will be ready in time.
Senior Sweethearts
Come join me in an AU where a few things go differently in DH and, as a result, Andromeda gets to grow old surrounded by her loved ones. Also featuring a very sweet friendship between Andromeda and Astoria.
Out and Proud
For last year's fest I broke Emmeline Vance's heart in a fic titled Midnight Rain. This year, she meets Hestia Jones and gets another chance at love and happiness.
Women of the House of Black
For this theme, I'm exploring one of my favorite headcanons: that Iola Black, who was disowned for marrying a Muggle several generations ago, was never forgotten by the women of the family, and her story was passed down as a cautionary tale.
Character Chic
A character sketch of Marietta Edgecombe. What sort of person is she? Why did she betray the D.A.? How does she move on with her life with broken trust, gaps in her memory, and a mistake she made at sixteen permanently scarred onto her face?
Marauders Era Misses
I've been promising an Emmeline-centric first war fic for a while, and it's finally on its way! Despite being a very background character in canon, she's someone I have a lot of headcanons about - and here, I'll be delving into aspects of her story that I've alluded to but didn't fully explore in other fics, especially Midnight Rain and To Have Loved and Lost.
Women of Color
An eighth year fic starring Padma Patil, who returns to Hogwarts after the battle to finish her education and figure out what comes next. How do you go back to your ordinary life after a year like the one she and her peers have just been through?
Rebels and Renegades
The fic version of this Tumblr post: Dorcas Meadowes and Marlene McKinnon as Riddle Era women who remember Voldemort from their school days and are among the first to join the Order of the Phoenix. This is still very much a WIP and will probably be the longest fic I write for the fest - but luckily, the theme isn't until August, so I've still got plenty of time!
Next Gen Girlies
This was actually the first one I wrote for this summer's fest, featuring Molly and Lucy Weasley. The two sisters are very different people, but they love and support each other nevertheless. It's also yet another excuse for me to delve into the topic of squibs, which apparently I just can't stay away from.

I just spent 3 1/2 hours making a Black family tree and so I’m going to share some of my findings. (No clue if all of this is 100% correct, I tried to double check everything as best I could but I’m very sleep deprived)
Sirius and Regulus have the same aunt (Druella Black (neé Rosier) as Evan Rosier. Making Bellatrix, Andromeda, and Narcissa Evan’s cousins on their mother’s side (Regulus and Sirius being the sisters’ cousins on their father’s side).
One of Sirius and Regulus’ great-grandfather’s brother’s daughters (Callidora) married into the Longbottom family.
Another one of their great-grandfather’s brother’s daughters (Cedrella) married into the Weasley family (and was disowned for it).
And their great-grandfather’s brother’s third daughter (Charis) married into the Crouch family.
Sirius and Regulus’ grandfather’s sister (Dorea) married (Charlus) into the Potter family (I couldn’t find how close they are to James Potter but its been theorized that Charlus could be James’ distant cousin or uncle).
Sirius and Regulus’ uncle (by marriage) was also Molly (neé Weasley) Fabian, and Gideon Prewett’s uncle.
Elladora Black (never married or had children) was the one who would behead house elves when they got too old. She was the sister of Phineas Nigellus Black (the first) who was the oldest descendent of the black family tree that I could find and the whole Black family can be traced back to him and his wife, Ursula. (He had three other siblings and two were never married and the other, Iola, married a muggle, Bob Hitchens) (They might have had two kids but I can’t be certain and I don’t know what their names are or if they were magical.) Phineas Nigellus Black was also both Walburga and Orion’s great-grandfather.
There were also women with the last names Bulstrode, Macmillan, Yaxley, Crabbe, Rosier, Gamp, and Flint that married into the family (and Greengrass if you want to include Draco’s wife, though he was a Malfoy since his mother lost her maiden name when she married). The Men who married into the family (or really that the women married out of the family to) were Hitchens, Burke, Crouch, Longbottom, Weasley, Prewett, Malfoy, Tonks, and Lestrange.

The Cautionary Tale by @midnightstargazer
Women of the House of Black is kicking off with MidnightStargazer's "The Cautionary Tale," centering on Iola Black! Snippet and link below:
The burn marks on the family tapestry didn’t have names. That was the point of them. They were gaping holes of shameful emptiness. Their parents and siblings never truly forgot, but nobody would dare acknowledge them.
The identities of those who had once been part of the family were burnt away now. Unspoken. Forgotten.
All but one.
“Iola. Her name was Iola.”
The words were passed down from sister to sister, cousin to cousin, aunt to niece.
“She ran off with a filthy Muggle.”
Elladora told the story to Belvina, who shuddered in disgust and went on to make a perfectly respectable marriage to Herbert Burke. If Belvina didn’t love Herbert, if she didn’t crave his company and didn’t mourn much when he died, so what? At least she had done better than her disowned aunt. At least her name was still on the tapestry.
“His name was Hitchens. Bob Hitchens. Such a horrible, common name.”

Please help a black trans man not be homeless
New posts because the last one is losing traction: It seems to always lose it a bit once it hits 100.
Otherways to help
KO-FI | VENMO | CASHAPP | PAYPAL
Further explanation below the cut of what's happening.
Dancing snoopy.
Tumblr media
I am going to be homeless this coming December. I have some time in December to find a place to live. I have FOUND a roommate but I need money. I'll be moving to Ohio, and rn it's just securing funds to get there.
My Godfundme is set to 3K but I really just need at least 400-500 USD. I don't expect to get 3k. It's just set that if I am unable to immediately get a job when I move.
Winter is coming and I'd rather not be on the streets. My brother claims he won't let me go homeless, but with how he's not budging with the moveout date...
Any help would go far.
