My brain was infected by Inuyasha and to this day I have a weird. attachment. to swords and weapons being forged in stories and I love Naruto and the thought of him learning to make weapons (not really necessarily him using them, just. making them.), so here are my thoughts real quick:
I’ve already stated this before but I’m saying it again: If Naruto learned how to forge swords, he’d immediately give his all to make Sasuke a sword
I love the thought of Naruto using one of Kurama’s fangs to make a sword (here’s where the inuyasha stuff makes itself known) and I love the thought of Kurama being like “if you use my tooth for this, do not give it to that Uchiha brat. Look at me. I’m not kidding.”
Naruto making weapons from every tailed beast (not sure…what exactly he’d get from…a couple of them…so I’m not gonna think too hard on it)
I really really love the idea of Naruto making weapons, maybe the tailed beast weapons^, and then like. scattering them. maybe not even on purpose, so there’s just these crazy strong weapons that seem like they should be from Tales of Old™️, real prophecy-like weapons, but they were just made last week on a whim
Naruto having new goggles that he uses while forging <3

There is something so beautiful about people on this app using thier degrees and careers to make the most unhinged shit.
Like “I’m gonna use my double major in journalism and marketing to tell you what each Inuyasha character would get cancelled for and their apology videos!”

Currently crying in a corner because I remembered that Inuyasha visited the well at least every three days.
And I don’t think he was waiting for Kagome to “come back”
As much as he was waiting/trying to see if the well would open for him
So he could go to her
Because he chose her. Because he thinks they were born for each other. Because since she has people who love her in her era, maybe that’s where she belongs
But he truly believes that he belongs with her, wherever and whenever.

The thing I’m really loving about ranma 1/2 (2024) —besides the color, the queerness and the silliness— is how it’s basically a teenage boy(girl) who’s been raised with toxic masculinity learning the importance of consent.
He learns this both from watching Akane being harassed to then experiencing the same harassment when in girl form. Ranma’s seeming lack of his own gender awareness clashes perfectly with how differently Akane treats people based on gender. He might have learned to be sympathetic towards Akane’s hatred for men but that very quickly turns into empathy.
(Spoilers for episode 8 under cut)
I feel like this was perfectly illustrated in the most recent episode (#8). When he and Akane are fighting and she dares him to kiss her, his growth really shows. He takes a step back from his pride and the goading to think about how he felt in the moment that he was forcibly kissed. The sort of position he was put in simply for being a girl.
So far we’ve seen all the ways that Ranma is impulsive and very easily goaded into things. This is sort of the first time he *doesnt* give into that. Obviously he cares about Akane, and obviously is not against kissing her.
However he now knows the negative experiences she’s had with men and that she is also not one to back down from a challenge. Of course his “maybe we should only kiss people we want to” got misinterpreted as rejection, but was a honestly attempt to not make her feel the same way he had in that moment. He’s seeing how other boys are acting and actively deciding to not have that effect on people, especially the girl he now cares about.
If this love story goes anything like Inuyasha did, I expect a lot of parallel learning. In this I think Akane will more reflect Inuyasha’s growth.
Inuyasha learned that he was allowed to accept happiness, to choose life. To feel his emotions without seeing them as weakness. Just because he can fight alone doesn’t mean he has to and that he is lovable despite not conforming to what society views as desirable.
Akane in turn I think will also learn the value of trust. Allowing herself to be loved by someone who isn’t going to view her personality as a conquest or thing to be tamed. She’s already accepted being herself rather than trying to be like her sister so she’s got a good start!
That leaves Ranma and Kagome.
Kagome ultimately learned how to sit and cope with her negative emotions. She gave them time but refused to let them interfere with her principles on how to treat people. She used this as a way to provide support for her loved one while takeoff care of herself. She would meet him where he was at. Even if he didn’t choose her in the end. (Thank fuck he did)
I think Ranma will have a somewhat similar role, but rather he needs to learn how to stop saying shit he doesn’t actually mean. He’s sort of dug himself into a hole as far as communication goes.

Sesshomaru and his twins.....

Just kidding. Seems like Towa finally came into her senses and distanced herself from the sperm donor. Rin had to step in to replace her. Of course Donormaru is just being inserted here and incapable of emotions. And can't even bother to give Rin a pair of sandals still.

one thing that always gets me whenever i read inuyasha modern au fics is that inuyasha is supposedly "the slacker" or the guy who doesn't try hard on anything academia related, and that always struck me as odd bc you're telling me inuyasha wouldn't be competing with, say, koga for rank 1? that he wouldn't study his ass off in the subjects he's actually interested in? that he wouldn't pour his everything into extracurriculars he cares about? he has his aloof moments in canon but ultimately he's a hard worker and i think that trait should be reflected in aus!
plus if we're thinking about the setting here, inuyasha's canon behavior is greatly influenced by his upbringing (and later lack thereof). putting him in an environment (modern au, lack of youkai discrimination) where his talents are cultivated instead of looked down upon would give us a very different character. it's always interesting to me whenever i see canon-typical inuyasha behavior in an au where his mom is alive because it suggests that his mistrust and gruff behavior are just part of his personality and not largely a result of childhood events. i feel like modern aus are an opportunity to see how he might have grown if not for the death of his mother + father & the consistent threat looming over him as a child. what would his personality be like then? how would his first meeting with kagome go considering that? his dynamics with his older brother? his goals? it's something that could be explored in a fic taking place in the feudal realm but it's kind of difficult to just subtract the discrimination aspect that comes with that setting...just things to think abt ig!

An actual story drawing? It's a miracle! LMAO
This is the first time Kouko and Inuyasha properly connected one on one, through comfort and a bowl of warm soup.
More on this scene below the cut!
After a particularly rough confrontation with Kikyo, Kouko followed Inuyasha out to where he was trying to silently recuperate from the event. He definitely wasn't thrilled, but instead of beckoning him back to the group, she offered him out a bowl of warm soup, and sat next to him to give her condolences to how things played out between the two of them.
She wasn't aware of his past before now, and in all honesty, seeing him do more than bicker with Kagome and fight in battles definitely humanized him in her mind. She still hadn't grown past her distain for demons yet, so being able to sympathize with one was a bit of a revelation.
She understood the feeling of breaking things off on bad terms with a lover, especially with how badly things ended with her and her own first love. Though it definitely wasn't the same, it was a similar type of grief, and while she had grown and overcome her own mourning over time, she had the realization that his pain was still a very open wound. If none of the others were willing to give him the time and patience he needed to grieve, she would.
It was a cautious, and very hesitant start to them growing to be friends, but one brought through compassion and concern. It helped them grow some semblance of understanding for each other, that would eventually lead to Inuyasha returning the kindness down the line.
I've had this one as a sketch for... Actual months now? I think? ( ̄▽ ̄*)ゞ What a pain! I'm so incredibly happy with how it turned out, though! The soft muted greens fit so well for this being the first peek into their bonding in comparison with the lively brighter greens they have later!
Fun Fact: I always forget to draw Inuyasha's beads when doing pieces like this where it's set before he got them taken off LMAO Slips my mind nearly every time!
(There's also a 50% chance I forget Kouko's freckles on every piece I do of her (×_×)⌒☆ Happens more than you'd think, I just manage to catch it before I post the drawing lol)

Inuyasha: What are you talking about? Kagome?
Inuyasha: *sighs*
Inuyasha: Look. I meant what I said when I told you she wasn't here. Kagome's been gone for a while, and... and I don't think she's coming back.

This is genuinely one of my favorite little throwaway moments from the manga (that got cut from the anime btw). We have Kagome keeping up a relentless march simply because she saw how many people died to Naraku's latest attack, and that motivates her to stop him even if she's on the brink of wearing herself out. We have Miroku being a good friend and tactfully taking note to point it out to Inuyasha, who's too absorbed by a similar motivation at the moment. Then he just casually tells him he can't just tell a girl he likes her before being a slave driver, Inuyasha not bothering to try denying he did in fact confess to her (which Miroku was eaves-dropping on as usual lol) while Kagome claps in "you tell 'im" approval. Meanwhile Myouga realizes he's missed a lot since he's been gone. 😂

New thoughts about half-something trope in anime/manga/game:
I love Castlevania Alucard and don't mind him being a damphyr because I noticed people don't act like him being a half-anything is what makes Alucard strong or good-hearted. Meanwhile when Yusuke is headcanoned as half-demon (canon is mazoku not hanyou), he's turned into an Inuyasha copycat.
Inuyasha is Yusuke's polar opposite. Inuyasha hated being himself. He hated being a hanyou because he was treated badly for it. Meanwhile, manga canon Yusuke was never insulted by demons for being an ex-human. They like him before and after his turning for who he is, not what he is. And Yusuke himself never minded turning mazoku because to him, his identity as Yusuke Urameshi stayed the same no matter his biology and genealogy (and this is more consistent in the manga because his identity issues in his Yomi fight was anime only).
Which means to say that Yusuke's flaws and good points (talking about humans as food and saving a child) are both there in him no matter if he's human or demon (Kuroko misunderstood him, I have a separate meta post for that). Inuyasha is the opposite of this because he turns human and that weakens him while turning more youkai makes him lose his conscience.
Anyway, half-demon Yusuke is okay too but some reasoning for it changes the character into something else (he's not Inuyasha). Meanwhile, Castlevania Alucard being a half-vampire barely gets talked about in the fandom even if it's more important to him than it is to Yusuke so almost nobody makes his biology the thing that controls his identity. In any case, I don't like it when biological changes or mixed-race stuff are what decides when a character's morality is good or evil and I figured it out with Alucard's help. I think Castlevania and Yu Yu Hakusho are great stories that tell you race is not what makes someone good or evil. And YYH manga has more nuance about this.
