george rexstrew deserves awards for many things but i have to say. edwin’s bloodcurdling scream as niko gets killed deserves a whole award unto itself. like. that scream did not feel at all like a tv show scream. to a somewhat jarring degree. and i can’t express how much I respect that
#he has a number of very convincing screams and suffering noises which I imagine was an important prerequisite for the role#but this one is just especially chilling and again. jarring. not saying that the other actors are bad or anything but no one even comes#close to competing with george and its stark in moments like this#another screaming moment that I thought he did really well in particular is far easier to gloss over and that’s#when he and charles are escaping hell and he almost gets dragged down into lust#when he’s screaming out for charles he borderline SCREECHES#throughout that arc in general it’s just incredible but yeah#I think part of what makes it so convincing is that he isn’t afraid to be high pitched and genuinely Scream rather than yell#like. he is clearly immune to being put off by ‘you scream like a girl’ rhetoric#I think a lot of male actors avoid screaming and screeching like that for that internalized reason when. if you wanna be as realistic as#possible. a scream is high pitched. if you’re scared for your fucking life it’s just involuntary#I can also see it being uncommon due to difficulties getting that sound adequately recorded but yeah anyway you get my point#tldr: george rexstrew is great at disturbingly realistic screaming and I applaud him for that#I really hope he didn’t have to retake that part too many times..#his poor throat……….#george rexstrew#edwin#edwin payne#dead boy detectives#dead boy detectives spoilers

Can we agree on a shared clothing size system. I ordered a bikini bottom on eBay (cause I found the top here but the bottom was sold out, uncommon size bra girlies know how hard it is to find a bikini that fits AND in a color you like) and it was marked as a size 10 and since the store was in the UK I thought that must mean it was a UK size 10. So off I go converting to EU sizes and yes UK 10 is a EU 38/M so great my size!!
But it arrived today and NO it was apparently a AU 10 which is NOT a EU medium but a EU small! I got this shipped all the way here for it to be too small bc size conversions needs way more research than I thought! Can we have a shared clothing size numbering system please!
#this has been a whole struggle bc at first a Norwegian web shop DID have the bottoms I was after#so I ordered the top from one web shop and the bottom from the other shop cause none of them had both#I get order confirmations to my email#two weeks pass I get the top but no shipping notice on the bottom#SURPRISE they didn’t have the bottom after all but THAT mail ended up in spam for some reason!!#so I went on eBay to order instead and managed to get the wrong size#can’t imagine it’s easy to return so I guess I’ll order ANOTHER#this may not seem like such a big deal but when it’s really hard to find bikinis in your size AND a nice color that isn’t black or neon#well#I want us to have an international clothing size number system please#but we can’t even agree on metric systems so I guess not#it’s the fantasie swim in Persian Rose if anyone’s wondering

As much as I roast Beyond Birthday for his lack of subtlety I also kin him for it. Because in art school we were sometimes required to incorporate deep symbolism into our art pieces, and I was always doing things like drawing a dude holding a compass and wearing goggles to represent that he's feeling directionless about his worldview
#seriously art school was such both a good learning experience and also an embarrassing bummer all at once hahaha#i think the worst part about it is i started feeling like i couldnt have a sense of playfulness or humour in what i made?#not necessarily because anyone told me that but i just somehow internalized it and it sucked all the joy out of making stuff#i had to relearn a lot about why i used to love doing it in the first place and all that jazz people always say about art school#but anyway i just cant not be literal and hamfisted so i really shouldn't make fun of B#for being like#hmmm clocks!! eyeballs!! the number 13#it's really not as easy as it looks to be subtle and artful about such things#i think part of the problem was i went to school basically for making fine art to hang in galleries#when all i really ever loved art for was all the comics and movies and games and cartoons i took in#i didnt live somewhere where i could often go to museums or galleries so i lived through books and screens alone for art basically#and i really started believing all the stuff i loved wasnt the 'correct' kind of art that i should be focusing on anymore because of school#i definitely recommend considering your influences when it comes to the kind of schooling you do#like pick something where you'll be studying the artists and art you genuinely were inspired by because#so much of art school was studying fine art and artists that legitimately did nothing for me#not because they werent worth studying but just because they werent my personal taste#beyond birthday#p

you know. back when i reviewed poetry submissions for [insert unnamed literary magazine here], i once got a submission containing only two poems (you could submit up to five) both of which were about the author's older brothers, whose names are dan and john (my older brothers' names are dan and jon...athan) and her relationship w them and descriptions of them were not all that unlike my own brothers. still one of the weirdest things that has ever happened to me
#i understand my brother's do not have the most exotic names in the anglophone world#(although this was an international outlet and we frequently got pleeenty of submissions from non-anglophone countries)#(in fact one of the reasons i got sick of it over time was seeing too many worthy poems be rejected for bullshit reasons#and that seemed to happen in especially high numbers to poems from perspectives of other cultures/international issues#that i found to be very well-crafted and objectively deserving! but u can only afford to publish so many poems a week right#so u have to pass over the vast majority of stuff. so u have to grasp at reasons like 'the voice is too close' whatever tf that means)#(that shit used to pissss meeeee offff. i hate literary magazine readers. it's a fool's job and i can say it bc i've been the fool)#however that being said. what a coincidence#tales from diana#they were good poems too. i think i gave them a thumbs up before they were eventually rejected like most other thigns that are worthwhile#did i ever mention the literary publishing world is bullshit? bc it is#especially especially the poetry side of it. completely bullshit and so out of touch w how ppl read and appreciate poetry nowadays#no wonder that shit makes no money. well that and nobody wants to pay for it anyway#but when it comes to my poetry i have no problem being a starving artist. i never made a dollar from my work#but i don't think my work has ever been worth a dollar. it's never COST me a dollar either#and as far as i'm concerned i don't really want to be appreciated much for it#not that i ever have been. well. lol#but it wasn't about me bc i have reviewed thousands of submissions but only submitted to like... a handful of outlets over time#and having been on both sides of that equation. i do think that that's not for me#sometimes i do think about self-publishing but i don't even think the work of that would feel worth it to me#and if i were to do that i would probably do it under a pen name.#i don't have a collection of poems. i just have poems. thousands of em.#if i ever get around to writing those plays i have outlined in my head i might consider it though#bring back the closet drama

Do…. Do people actually have an issue with stuff being written in present tense?
#I’ve heard of POV preference but seeing all these posts about how much people dislike present tense#maybe I’m just not an observant reader but I can count the number of times I’ve actively noted a book/fic’s tense on one hand#and almost always it was because I liked how it worked with the author’s writing style#you’re telling me people will consider dropping something JUST because it’s in present tense??#genuinely can someone explain this to me?#I know some people don’t like first person pov because it feels too close and ‘I’ didn’t do anything. the character did#(I don’t really see it that way and don’t mind first person though I prefer third person)#and second person pov is rare and people don’t like it for the same reasons (being told what they as a reader ‘did’)#(I personally like second person pov a LOT but also prefer it to be a little treat actually suited to the story)#but verb tense?? as long as it all works grammatically I don’t see an issue#a lot of the examples I see of how present tense doesn’t work is showing two paragraphs side by side in the past and present#and I will agree that the present reads worse comparatively#but also it’s because the sentences were obviously (at least imo) written and structured for past tense first#and then ‘translated’ to present tense if that makes sense#I personally like how present tense lets me play with my sentences#but also I know that when I play with time and have a character recount past events within their own internal musings I switch tense#which I would think is allowed?? but maybe that’s bad form and I’m proving the point why past tense is ‘superior’#(I don’t really care for fic writing purposes as long as it flows and isn’t distracting but who’s to say)#anyways this was long but yeah. genuinely curious about this one#white weasel talks#tbd probs
