Blue and Violet Scenes/Ideas that never made the cut
Self Indulgent post ahead, but I kind of wanted to share some of the things that had been part of the early stages of BAV but were cut out when I finally started publishing! Most of this stuff was either cut out due to my interpretations of the characters naturally changing and/or I simply realized that these aspects simply could not fit the story I wanted to tell (or, they are just silly things I simply could not fit into the plot line. OR, I forgot about them and didn't remember these things existed until now đ).
Starting off strong with a thing I actually wrote a segment for (an idea that was relatively recent compared to the ones down below): During Colours, Baihe and Macaque were meant to visit the ruins of her house and try and salvage any bits and pieces which might help them find her parents. In the end I had decided that, Baihe would have done that already before Macaque found her on the park bench. I just think that that moment between her and her old home should just... well, it's a moment that belongs to her. Something Macaque didn't need to bare witness.
Extra Info: This is where Baihe was originally meant to find the old photo of her, her parents, and MÄo as a kitten. And... Macaque is there in the background. Stealing an air fryer that managed to survive the wreckage (this was in fact written into the draft of this segment).
Next is- well, it contains a bit of a heavy topic. It's about Mayor and LBD and... erm...
In the published version of TQFTSK. Macaque betrays the Chief and locks them in the Calabash and this inevitably leads to LBD telling Chief to cut off their hair. Originally, this was not going to be the only thing she would do.
I have incredibly mixed feelings about this concept, but basically, after Chief especially failed to get the key and 'let' Macaque escape, LBD would have had severe insecurities about the Chief being on their own and the idea that they would never be able to get anything done without her. So, she made them wear a collar. So that every time they didn't do anything right, the needles imbedded into it would dig into their throat and- well, it was basically torture. She would have called it 'necessary discipline'. Of course, the collar would not be visible to anyone. It only appears when it's 'necessary'.
But this was an extremely early concept that I threw away in the bin after realising that this was not what I wanted LBD and Mayor's relationship to be like. While the initial idea behind this was to really empathize the fact that LBD owns Mayor and is extremely controlling, the idea of a physical collar ruins that aspect of their relationship. It's a visual and painful representation of their relationship, sure, but it made their relationship too negative and, well, Mayor loves her. And I knew it needed to be important to at least give you guys some sort of reason and some sort of argument as to why that admiration and love would be justified. The collar was just too much, and it didn't fit either of them.
Side Note: One thing I think subconsciously happened though, was the needle thing. LBD ended up killing Ling with tens of thin needles piercing through their body. So, not a collar, but the basic principle of needles being used for pain... remains.
Moving on, a more silly one this time! Somewhere near the beginnings of all of this (all the way back when I had only planned to make TQFTSK and Colours), there was going to be one single chapter (in Colours) dedicated to the Mayor going through all the stages of grief (eventually I'd come to the conclusion that they needed a lot more than one chapter to do all of that lmao). As a part of their bargaining stage, Macaque was going to stumble upon them in a bar and- unfortunately, being the curious nut he is, decides to stick around and just listen to the Mayor drunkenly mope.
PSA: No, this would not have ended in drunk kissing. This was meant to end in a snotty nosed Mayor and Macaque promptly leaving after he'd had his bit of listening to their misery.
Another thing was that Mayor was meant to be able to see souls! This particular story feature eventually just evolved into Mayor simply being able to judge a soul by looking at their eyes (hence the whole, "eyes are the gateway to the soul").
Another Note: This whole idea was also meant to emphasize the fact that Mayor has no soul and, how whenever they look inside themselves, there is no colour and there is no soul (that is, until they get their soul back). But, well, I figured their eyes alone would be able to do all of that just fine without this ability.
Now, as ashamed as I am to admit, originally I had completely bought into the Baihe, Macaque, and Mayor family dynamic. So, in the beginning, this was what was going to happen.
But then I decided Baihe was not going to conveniently be an orphan or have shitty parents for the sake of this dynamic. No, no no no. She will have loving parents, character development, and she will be more than just a character to fill in the slot of 'the child'. Whenever I write Baihe, I always strive to not use her for the sake of developing Macaque and Mayor's characters. No shame to those who like this dynamic though, its a good one and it's so silly (I still like it to be honest).
Now, let me tell you that there are a LOT more unused concepts than this. It's really just a decent slice from a never ending pile of WIPs and shower thoughts scribbled onto a doc from all the way back in like... 2022-23.

Thought up a few interesting things for the Squid Memes AU
1- Desti was an Elite Octoling back during Splatoon 1, and she and her squad (the three other Octolings that would go on to become the Octoposse) were among those who defected after the battle. Though interestingly, she didn't actually hear Calamari Inkantation like the other defectors, seeing as she was recovering from injuries she sustained fighting Agent 3 and thus wasn't present for the battle/concert. She just found out that her teammates were running away and was like "not without me you're not."
She's fully aware that Paige is Agent 3 (once she finally runs into them on the surface at least) and thinks it's honestly kind of funny that the so-called "Scourge of the Domes" was a freaking kid when they tore through the place, and that of all the people she could've gotten into a rivalry with it of course just had to be 3's big sister. She doesn't tell Meggy both because she's not about to out the kid like that and because it amuses her a little that Meggy doesn't know.
2- Axol and Pearl have been friends since they were kids, partly because I figure it would make sense if the tiny angry rich girl who sings too loud and the otaku who figured out fucking magitech and built a pen that could bring his drawings to life because he was lonely got lumped in together as the Weird kids nobody likes. Plus Marina canonically reads manga so even if Pearl doesn't like anime stuff herself we know someone else liking it isn't a turnoff for her.
3- So for this one I'm also pulling from Spongebob Squarepants canon because I needed an explanation for Heavy Squid and all the other Squidwards we see.
Okay, so we've seen in a few episodes of Spongebob that there are a bunch of squids/octopi/whatever Squidward's meant to be that look almost exactly like him. Obviously there's Squilliam but there was also that town of Squidward lookalikes he moved to once. Well, in this that's because they're not Squids or Octopi, they're instead a fourth (yes, fourth. we count Salmonids in this house) type of Inkfish that I'm tentatively calling "Schnozlings." In terms of abilities they're sort of a halfway point between the playable Inkfish and Salmonids, where they can live underwater thanks to having the right kind of respiratory system and thick enough skin to not get splatted by the ink-eating microbes, while also having Swim forms (which unfortunately aren't microbe-resistant like their humanoid forms).
Their swim forms are round, with six tentacles that all look similar to the long tentacles of an Inkling's swim form, while their humanoid forms are...well...Squidward lookalikes. Complete with four "legs," no fingers, a long droopy nose (hence the name Schnozling) and in a few cases the ability to grow hair on their heads like a human. As a side-effect of their microbe-resistant thick skin, most of them don't have any way to display their ink color in humanoid form, while their Swim forms are color coded just like Inklings and Octolings.
(And yes this means I'll have to redesign Heavy Squid to look less like Heavy and more like Squidward. But still big and muscular because that's his Whole Thing.)
#i wish squid memes were real au#au lore#splatoon#sm4 desti#agent 3#paige spletzer#smg4 axol#pearl houzuki#heavy squid#squidward tentacles#squilliam fancyson#schnozling#why yes i DO subscribe to the headcanon that a lot of octarians are fucking terrified of agent 3 why do you ask#desti's cool with them though#desti lived on the surface for two whole MONTHS before she actually heard the inkantation#her reaction to the Realization that followed was basically just âhuh. glad i got out of THAT shitshow when i didâ#idk i thought it was funny#yes this means that the smg4 version of Actual Squidward can do inksports#he'd probably suck ass at it but he could do it#info for heavy as an actual CHARACTER will come when i finally make a post about my versions of the original splat squad#look pearl found a homeless girl in battle armor who couldn't speak inklish in the woods and decided to form a band with her#she would ABSOLUTELY hang out with a guy who treats her like a normal person and draws stuff so well that it's literally magic#even if the subject matter is something she hates on an instinctual level

You and Jake returned to your home in Wisconsin early on the Sunday after Thanksgiving. True to his nature, Jake insisted on handling all the heavy lifting himself, ensuring you remained comfortable. While he brought in your luggage, you strolled into the kitchen.
Your cell phone buzzed, and you saw that it was Dr. Colson calling. You answered with a casual, "Hey, Jason."
"Y/N, I was just calling to follow up on the Wyoming study," Jason said, diving straight into business.
You let out a sigh, feeling the weight of the conversation. You still hadn't broached the subject with Jake, and you knew how he'd react. Heading towards the office for some privacy, you replied, "I reviewed what you sent, and you're right. It doesn't add up. But, Jason, I can't go to Wyoming right now. Jake's home, and I need to talk to him about it."
Jason's voice was sympathetic. "I understand, Y/N. Family comes first. Just keep me posted on when you can make it out there. We need to get to the bottom of this."
"Of course," you replied, grateful for his understanding. "I'll talk to Jake tonight and let you know as soon as possible."
After ending the call, you took a deep breath, resting your head in your hands, you were lost in thought when you heard Jake's voice.
"Darlin', you alright?"
Startled, you lifted your head and turned to see Jake standing in the doorway of the office, concern etched on his face.
You managed a small smile, trying to mask your inner turmoil. "Yeah, I'm fine," you replied, hoping he wouldn't see through the facade.
Jake stepped into the room, his concern deepening as he approached you. "You sure? You seem a bit off."
You hesitated, debating whether to confide in him about the Wyoming study. But you knew you couldn't keep it from him any longer. Taking a deep breath, you decided to be honest. "Actually, Jake, there's something we need to talk about." You slowly walked over to him. "Before Thanksgiving, Jason asked if I would travel to Wyoming," you began, meeting Jake's gaze. "Apparently, Stryker's info isn't making any sense. Even the information he sent me isn't adding up."
Jake listened quietly as you spoke, his expression becoming more serious with each word. When you finished, he remained silent for a moment, processing the information.
Finally, he spoke, his voice calm but firm. "You know how I feel about Stryker," Jake said with a hint of frustration.
"I do," you replied softly.
He walked over to you, his hands gently finding their place on your slightly swollen tummy. "And you know how I feel about the pregnancy."
You placed your hand on his, the connection between you grounding and reassuring. The two of you locked eyes, sharing an unspoken understanding. "I do." Feeling the weight of his words, you took a deep breath, the reality of the situation settling in. Despite the challenges and uncertainties, you found solace in the unwavering support and love you shared with Jake.
"I just want to protect you and our baby," Jake said, his voice filled with emotion.
"I know, Jake," you replied, your voice gentle yet resolute. "And I appreciate that more than you'll ever know, but I still have a job to do."
"A job you said you didn't want, that's why you took the one here," Jake stated, his tone tinged with a mixture of concern and apprehension.
You nodded, acknowledging his concern. "I know, Jake. But this isn't about what I want anymore. It's about doing what's necessary to ensure our family's future, especially with the baby on the way."
Jake sighed, running a hand through his hair in frustration. "I just don't want you putting yourself in danger, especially now."
"I'll be careful, Jake. And I won't do anything without talking to you first," you assured him, your voice soft but determined. "But right now, we need to figure out what's going on with Stryker and the Wyoming study."
Jake looked at you, his expression softening as he realized the weight of your words. "Alright," he said finally, a hint of resignation in his voice. "But I'm going with."
You looked at him, incredulous. "Seriously?"
He met your gaze with a firm nod. "Seriously."
"I'll call Jason and let him know then," you said, determination in your voice.
"And Chuck is coming too," Jake added, confirming the decision.
"Okay," you replied, a bit surprised by the sudden addition but trusting Jake's judgment. "I'll let him know."
With the decision made, you felt a sense of relief wash over you.
"I'll call work and talk with them to see when we can leave," you said, already heading over to the desk.
"I'll finish bringing in the luggage," Jake offered.
"Just leave it in the mudroom," you instructed, already dialing John Andrysiak's number.
Jake nodded and exited the room, leaving you to make your call. As he left, Chuck entered the kitchen.
"Lieutenant. Welcome home. I have to say, I was shocked when Doc texted me that you were home," Chuck greeted, his surprise evident in his tone.
Jake looked at Chuck with a serious expression. "Chuck, what do you know about this Doctor Stryker?"
Chuck's surprise was evident as he considered the question. "I'm not a fan of his, that's for sure. Why do you ask?"
"Y/N has to go to Wyoming to fix something he screwed up," Jake explained, his frustration evident. "I want you to go with us."
Chuck nodded without hesitation. "Of course. I'll make sure everything is taken care of before we leave," Chuck assured.
"I'd appreciate it," Jake said, acknowledging Chuck's words, just as you walked out of the hallway from the office.
"It's all set. We leave Wednesday," you announced, glancing at Chuck. "Did he tell you?"
Chuck nodded. "Yes, Ma'am. I'll make sure everything is squared away by then."
"Thank you, Chuck," you replied gratefully, then turned back to Jake. "I'm going to go check on some emails."
"That's fine, darlin'. I'll take care of things here," Jake assured you with a reassuring smile.
You turned back around and headed towards the office.
You sat at your desk, your eyes fixed on the numbers displayed on the computer screen. You were trying to decipher what Stryker had done differently compared to the first time you went to Wyoming. While you understood that circumstances could change, the magnitude of the discrepancies suggested something more was at play. It was clear to you that there was more to this situation than initially met the eye.
There was a gentle knock on the door and you looked up and saw Jake.
"You looked so lost in thought that I didn't want to startle you," Jake said softly as he walked into the room.
You smiled warmly at him. "I don't think there's ever been a time when you've startled me, Jake. Surprised me, yes. Startled, no."
He approached you, his concern evident in his eyes. "Darlin', why don't you come eat dinner and get some rest? It's been a long day."
"You're right," you admitted, realizing just how exhausted you felt after the day's events. "Dinner and rest sound perfect." You slowly stood up, neatly organizing the papers into a pile and shutting down your computer.
Jake couldn't help but notice the weariness etched on your face. "Y/N, don't you think you're overdoing things?" he asked, his concern evident in his tone.
You paused, considering Jake's words. His concern was always genuine, and you appreciated his attentiveness to your well-being.
"I might be," you admitted with a soft sigh, feeling the weight of the day's responsibilities settling on your shoulders. "But this is my life, Jake. Just like being a fighter pilot is yours, this is mine," you explained, a hint of frustration in your voice. You wobbled slightly, feeling the strain of the day, and Jake rushed to your side.
"How about you go and take a bath, and I'll bring dinner to you?" Jake suggested gently, his concern evident in his voice. "Y/N, I know this is your life, and I still struggle with it, but you're wearing yourself out."
You paused, considering Jake's suggestion. His caring tone softened your frustration, and you realized he was rightâyou were pushing yourself too hard. Taking a deep breath, you nodded in agreement.
"Okay," you conceded, giving Jake a grateful smile. "A bath sounds heavenly right now."
Jake's concern melted into a gentle smile of his own. "I'll get everything ready for you," he promised, guiding you towards the bathroom with a supportive arm around your waist.
In the bathroom, Jake started running the bathwater as you began to undress, feeling the warmth of the steam from the water already soothing your tired muscles. You reached for a hair clip, quickly securing your hair into a loose bun to keep it from getting wet.
As you settled into the warm water, you let out a contented sigh, feeling the tension slowly melting away. The soothing aroma of lavender filled the air, calming your mind and easing your tired muscles. It was like stepping into a sanctuary, a moment of tranquility amidst the chaos of your day.
Jake kissed your forehead tenderly, his gesture filled with love and care, before quietly leaving you to relax and unwind in the comforting warmth of the bath.
With each passing minute, you could feel yourself unwinding, the weight of responsibility lifting from your shoulders. Jake's thoughtful gesture brought a sense of comfort and relief, reminding you that you didn't have to face life's challenges alone.
As you soaked in the bath, your thoughts began to wander, despite your earlier hesitations about Jake re-entering your life after four years. You couldn't help but imagine what it might have been like if you had chosen a different path, if you had quit your job and embraced the life of a Navy pilot's wife.
You imagined a life where you and Jake navigated the challenges of military life together, supporting each other through deployments and homecomings, sharing the joys and sorrows of a life intertwined with the Navy. You envisioned quiet moments at home, curled up together on the couch, sharing stories and dreams as the world outside seemed to fade away. Would you have had more than one child by now?
But alongside those idyllic visions, doubts and uncertainties lingered. Would you have been content living in the shadow of Jake's career, sacrificing your own aspirations for the sake of his? Would you have felt fulfilled without the sense of purpose and accomplishment that came from your work?
As the water began to cool, you found yourself torn between the familiarity of the life you had built for yourself and the allure of the possibilities that might have been. But amidst the swirling currents of doubt and longing, one thing remained clear: whatever path you had chosen, Jake would always be an integral part of your life, a constant source of love and support, guiding you through the twists and turns of fate. You loved him and he loved you even without each other for four years.
You sighed as you thought about your husband's handsome face and your hand gently touched your stomach. Would this child be more like you, more like Jake or a mix of the both of you?
As the water began to cool, you found yourself torn between the familiarity of the life you had built for yourself and the allure of the possibilities that might have been. But amidst the swirling currents of doubt and longing, one thing remained clear: whatever path you had chosen, Jake would always be an integral part of your life, a constant source of love and support, guiding you through the twists and turns of fate.
After a while, Jake gently knocked on the bathroom door, his voice warm and reassuring. "Dinner's ready, darlin'. Whenever you're ready to come out. Just come to the bedroom."
"Okay," you replied softly as you reached for the drain, allowing the water to begin its slow descent.
Carefully, you stepped out of the bathtub, the cool air enveloping your skin as you grabbed a plush towel and began to dry yourself off, feeling the tension slowly dissipating with each gentle stroke.
The softness of the towel against your skin was soothing, and you relished the simple comfort it offered as you dried yourself off. With each stroke, you felt the tension of the day melting away, leaving behind a sense of calm and relaxation.
As you wrapped the towel around yourself and stepped out of the bathroom, you were greeted by the familiar warmth of your bedroom. The soft glow of lamplight cast a gentle ambiance, inviting you to unwind and let go of the stresses of the day.
You walked over to your dresser, selecting a pair of comfortable lounge pants and a tank top. Just as you were about to dress, Jake walked in, closing the door behind him. He paused, his gaze fixed on you, clad only in a towel.
Slowly, he approached you, his steps measured. Coming up from behind, he enveloped you in his arms, gently placing his hands on your swollen tummy, a gesture filled with tenderness and warmth.
He kissed the back of your neck, his breath warm against your skin. "You are so beautiful," he whispered softly.
You closed your eyes, allowing yourself to be enveloped by his touch. The towel slipped to the floor, forgotten, as Jake's hands gently cradled your swollen belly, the moment filled with tenderness and love.
You turned towards him, your eyes meeting briefly before your lips touched in a gentle, loving kiss.
The kiss was tender and reassuring, a moment of connection that reaffirmed the bond between you. As your lips parted, you felt a sense of calm and comfort wash over you, knowing that despite the challenges and uncertainties, you had each other to lean on.
Jake's hand gently cupped your cheek, his thumb softly caressing your skin. "I love you, Y/N," he whispered, his voice filled with sincerity and warmth.
"I love you too, Jake," you replied, your voice equally soft but firm with conviction.
He pulled you close, wrapping his arms around you in a protective embrace.

Delicate | hwang hyunjin x fem! reader
"This ain't for the best, my reputation's never been worse, so you must like me for me"
- Delicate, Taylor Swift
Summary: Moving to Seul wasn't something that Selene expected to do, but her broken heart and tired soul were craving for peace. She didn't even think too much about it: she simply saw an opportunity that would let her hide from the media and Hollywood for some time and took it. However, she will have to make a decision by the end of the year and she hopes that, when the time comes, the same world that was hating on her right now would forget everything. Maybe she wasn't meant to be an actress, but she was sure she wasn't meant to be loved. At least, that was what she thought before meeting an idol who wasn't treating her like a broken and pitiful person.
Status: on going (started 08/02/2024)
Genre: actress!reader x idol!hyunjin, SLOW BURN, angst, hurt/comfort, eventual smut (minors dni)
Warnings: there will be descriptions and heavy talk about mental illnesses (depression mainly), past abusive and toxic relationship (the character is oc and not present in the story), past abusive household, depression recovery, cheating (not between the main couple), hate on the web (idk how to tag this), the not so secret dark side of being a celebrity and I think nothing else...I will add things up if anything else comes into my mind.
General info: I won't be constant with the updates because it's a complex plot and I need time to write it down and I'm a perfectionist. Also, this is just a hobby, unfortunately I need to work irl (being an adult sucks and your girl needs moneyđ„Č). Actually, it's been two years since I got this idea and I've been thinking about it everyday since then and finally I decided to write and post it. This fic is settled back in 2021 because it follows skz's career from the end of hyunjin's hiatus to (for now) the release of case 143. For now it will be divided into two seasons: the first one is from their meeting to them becoming friends and the second one will focus on them going from friends to lovers. Even though in the first season they're not a couple, there will be hints to romance. Also, it's necessary for the introduction to the backstory of the reader. As for the reader, I'll make a post with the basic info you need to know before diving into the story. There will be all skz members, some members of enhypen for plot reasons and mentions of other idols.

- Story Tag Masterlist + Info -
For anyone who wants a brief overview of the most common tags, stories, and characters that I tend to post about, I've compiled a list to hopefully make it a bit easier to follow along! Keep in mind that a lot of the content posted about these stories is either outdated, or subject to change at any time.
Everything is below the cut, as it got rather long.
-------
- Home Is Where You Are -
A collaborative effort with my friend @cookieg122. HIWYA is a story that follows the journey of three OCs (Khalan, Aya, and Antony) as they discover who they are and what it means to be a family. Initially based on some stuff that happened in a few Minecraft servers, but over time has shifted into a fully original story. It's split into three acts, each focusing on a different part of the characters' journey:
Act I Originally based on the Drehmal: Primordial/Apotheosis Minecraft adventure map that my friends and I had played on some time ago, but now has been replaced with Atria; an original world that @cookieg122 and I are building together.
This current version of the story has Khalan and Aya getting whisked away from their home worlds into Atria by an unknown force. Act I focuses mostly on their growing relationship and their goal to try and return Aya back to her home world of Bocca. However, some of the gods of Atria are not pleased about Khalan and Aya's arrival, as their mere existence seems to defy the very nature of the world, so things get chaotic as the gods desperately try to set things right again.
Act II Aya and Khalan try to escape the wrath of the gods by utilizing a broken portal in an attempt to access Bocca, but are instead flung thousands of years into Atria's future; well after calamity had struck the land and the world began anew. The previous god of death makes a return as a power-hungry demon who consumes souls in an attempt to grow more powerful and regain his godhood. Unfortunately, he targets Khalan as his next victim due to Khalan's immortality being exploitable as an infinite source of energy.
This is also when Antony is introduced to the story and becomes a vital character; permanently weaving his way into Khalan and Aya's lives as he attempts to fight against the demon that is tormenting them. Khalan's Journal (abandoned and incredibly outdated fic) happens during this time.
Act III Aya finally manages to figure out a way to create a portal back to her home world of Bocca, though things aren't at all how she remembered it to be upon returning. Reformation is brewing within the Kingdom of Farfalla, and Aya, Khalan, and Antony get heavily involved in the efforts made to change the kingdom for the better; discovering themselves in the process, growing as a family, and taking some time to heal from the heavy trauma they've been shouldering up to that point.
Important extra content regarding basic character overviews/explanations can be found here and here, for anyone interested... and the (admittedly very small) collection of fics pertaining to this story can be found here on AO3 as well.
---
- Ravenwood RP -
Written roleplay universe that my friend @baskervilleshound and I have been working on for some time, though we tend to keep the actual written story part of it to ourselves.
Ravenwood is a mysterious, creepy town nestled in the middle of a forest that doesn't exist on any map. Time appears to be stuck in the early 90s, monsters are known to roam the woods at night, and once you've entered Ravenwood, there's no way to leave. This RP is mostly filled with the sporadic ideas that my friend and I have come up with regarding our characters being placed in such an interesting setting. It's kind of all over the place, but we're just having fun with it.
---
- Codename: IRIS -
Another story that @cookieg122 and I are working on. Although the characters from HIWYA are used in this story as well, it exists within its own alternate universe.
Codename: IRIS is an story in which a young boy (Khalan) befriends a sentient AI (Aya) within a virtual reality world; using gaming as a form of escape from his abusive home situation and the stress of moving to a new country. Things get out of control as another AI entity known as IRIS v.1 threatens to destroy and corrupt Aya's virtual home, eventually bringing that threat into the real world as well. Both Khalan and Aya, along with the help of their online friend Antony, work together to try and stop v.1's destructive rampage and attempt to also restore Aya's corrupted code and fragmented memories in the process.
Haven't posted much about this one yet, as there's still a lot to it that needs fine-tuning, but here's to hoping that I can share more as time goes on.

So those are the main stories I'm currently working on. I figured I'd keep it limited to just these three for now, though. If you have any questions about them, or other stories I may have posted about as well, feel free to send an ask! I'm always open to sharing more info or clearing up any confusion if possible!

71?
71. When it comes to more complicated narratives, how do you keep track of outlines, characters, development, timeline, ect.?
A big old messy scratchdoc!! I try to use headings to keep the information somewhat organized, but they work best if I let them stay pretty sprawling. It's usually something like:
Top section: What are The Themes? Why am I writing this story? Are there important symbols or visual motifs I want to keep track of? Are there reminders to myself that I want to see frequently to bring myself back into focus (re: tone, characterization, types of description or details to focus on)?
Character Section: I don't always do this, but for big fics or things with a large ensemble cast I usually lay out each important character, the basis of their arc/conflict, and how they contribute thematically to the story. If it's AU or set post-canon or there are other reasons that information about the character would be different from their canon counterpart, I note it here.
Reference section: Any specific research I've done for the fic. Lists of things like minor characters' names, descriptions of settings or OCs, etc.
Revelation List: I stole this from DMing advice blogs, but any time there are mystery elements to a fic I always lay out the Revelations (what the characters need to learn) and the specific clues or circumstances they encounter that allow them to reach those conclusions. Do they find and interpret evidence? Do they get information from another character? Do they do research? Even if I don't plan out all the details of the plot, I need to understand how the characters are going to reach each of the Revelations or I'm going to get stuck.
Timelines: I don't always do these either; it really depends on the fic, but if there's a specific chronology I need to keep track of (or a secret structure that would get lost in the full outline) I try to write it down
The Plot: Finally!! The actual outlining part! I start by writing bullet point versions of the events I know will happen (I usually have a pretty strong sense of the beginning and climax of a fic by this point, even if I still have a bunch of fine-tuning to do) and then work backwards or forwards to fill in the gaps. If it's a mystery fic (and most of my longer fic has at least some mystery elements) I refer back to the Revelations list to make sure I have scenes that cover all the necessary Leads and Revelations to get the characters to the endpoint.
Snippets: For certain scenes, the outline version doesn't accurately capture the Vibe I'm going for, so I have a section at the end where I write quick, tiny, scaffolding-style first drafts. These usually have almost no relation to what the final scene actually looks like, but it's about pinning down the idea and the atmosphere.
These documents are really big and messy and I usually need to go back and edit them as I go, because my original ideas inevitably undergo some shifts as I figure things out, but that's the fun of it!
It has to be the right type of fic to make this worth it, but sometimes I'll also do a scene-level outline in an Excel spreadsheet, with columns for Scene, POV Character, Location, Characters Present, Events, Reactions, and Plot-Important Info. This is good for super plotty/mystery-heavy fics and fics with big ensembles that I can't keep track of other ways. I have an enormous and beautiful outline in this style for the Owl House Tam Lin AU which I do still want to write someday, bc while I didn't end up loving TOH as a whole I do love a lot of the characters, and also we came up with possibly the best plot twist of my life involving 400 years of moon phase records so. It's on the back burner but it's still on the stove, as it were. And the good thing is that because I have such an exhaustive outline it will be easy for me to pick back up at any time if I want to!
#memeses#thanks for the ask!#this makes it sound much more organized than it actually is lol#but!! the important thing is to write everything down!!#even if you are not cursed you probably won't remember things as well as you think!#and if you are cursed it makes it a lot less scary to have all the info there so if you just Absolutely Cannot Write for six months#you don't risk losing all your cool ideas

SHIPPING INFO. Answer the following for your muse(s) so people know how shipping works on your blog.
Whatâs your OTP for your Muse(s)?
the ones that have been occupying my brain rent free are; my canon x oc ship with makenzi, iselda x rosinante, and SanVio. i favor a lot of other ships, but those two are heavy on my mind.
What are you willing to RP when it comes to shipping?
i'm down for all sorts of ship dynamics! i think the most important thing is chemistry between writers and what works for the characters themselves. toxic / unhealthy ships, i'm willing to explore, but again heavily depends on writer chemistry and understanding. plus, there are a few things that are a hard no for me that would need to be communicated.
How large does the age gap have to be to make it uncomfortable?
i think the biggest thing for me here is i really don't like ships where one has watched the other grow up and then when they're of age, the ship happens, or once was their teacher sort of thing, the unbalance of power there as well as the fact they were likely a minor at the time. both of those make me uncomfortable.
Are you selective when shipping?
yes!
How far do steamy moments have to go before theyâre considered NSFW?
clothes coming off or any explicit contact with private areas are considered nsfw for me, and at that point, it'd be a fade to black. i am willing to do morning after threads where clothes are presumably off, but once it veers towards a sexual scenario, i would also fade to black at that point.
Who are other muses you ship your muse with?
i will answer this for a few of the oc's! i like bartolomeo and iselda, and the potential of haru and robin, luna and usopp.
Does one have to ask to ship with you?
yes, because i prefer the communication. or, even just expressing interest on a post i make about a ship i'm thinking of.
How often do you like to ship?
all the time? lol, i mean, i guess it's muse dependent. there are muses i'm more hesitant to ship or would like to ship first with friends i'm most comfortable with, and sometimes i'm not interested in shipping a character, and then there are muses that i am more willing to open up to a broader audience.
Are you multiship?
yeah! sometimes, i get attached to a certain portrayal and decide that i would only like to ship with this friend's version of that character. but, that's never imposed on the other party. for the most part though, i am v much multiship!
Are you ship obsessed or ship more-or-less?
in between! however, i am obsessed with the ships i have and the dynamics i've cultivated with mutuals.
What is your favorite ship in your current fandom?
besides the above mentioned, i do favor; lawbin, sanami, and zorobin to name a few more. special shoutout to druhawk because i am actually obsessed!
Finally, how does one ship with you?
communicate with me! literally, just bringing it up and asking, expressing interest by replying to a post, letting me know forthright, asking if we can chemistry test, saying that you want to send a shippy meme, etc. i know it is daunting, i feel the same when i am interested in shipping and broaching that topic, but i feel that it helps us establish a nice basis of communication.
tagged by: @sirensofthefiveseas !! tagging: i'm not sure who has done this, so please steal this then tag me < 33
#any clarification needed literally just ask me < 33#*âËïŸâ§*ïŸ* âž» member of the sogeking fanclub ( ooc ).

hmmm (ok im not v good at this but) what I like about how you write your characters is that they're so very multifaceted and feels so solid. like, you're not afraid to have them act on their own personal opinions or preconcieved notions and it makes them feel so much like people, it rocks
as for what I think you could do better at.. i think this kinda applies for most of us really, and I understand that in some of our plots our characters do need to explain each others backgrounds. But sometimes I feel like it comes across as a bit too heavy on dialogue on your end. I'm not saying you should cut down on the explanations (i think they can be needed!) but more like...maybe pacing it so that theres more room for the other muse to react to each new info could work?
Thank you so much for sending this, Garlic! Seriously, I can't tell you how much I appreciate this feedback from you. Not only do I highly respect you as a fellow writer and roleplayer, but it means a lot to me to receive honest, respectful, and critical feedback from my writing partners. It really helps me out a lot.
It is SUCH a relief to know that my characters feel like actual people. That is one of the most important things to me as a writer and a roleplayer - that they feel organic and that their personalities and personal convictions come through, so that when they take an action or when they speak or do something, it speaks of them, whether it's positive or negative, regardless of how it affects the direction of thread or relationship with the other muse. It's hard sometimes because I worry about upsetting other muns in the process - so there's an urge sometimes to hold back - but I am a firm believer in giving muses the space they need to be themselves, so to hear you say you can see that in my muses means a lot. Thank you!
For what I can improve, I know exactly what you mean, and it's something I've been trying to figure out how to work on, especially with my chattier muses like Thursday and Doomsday. They are extremely chatty by nature, so it's difficult figuring out how to trim down their dialogue a lot of times. Also challenging is... just me. xD I am long-winded (as you can see), and you'd be surprised how much I trim down on my replies before I actually hit the post button. Still, I appreciate you pointing that out and I will work on that. I think I'm finally starting to understand that people in the rp community really do prefer shorter replies. Not super short ones, but shorter than what I've been producing.
Again, thank you so so much for sending this in. It's been very helpful! đ

Final Fantasy XVI RP
I just finished the game a couple of days ago and I'm obsessed. I need to write in this universe!
So, without further ado... have some info!
18+ writer with years of experience looking for another 18+ writer.
i don't shy away from dark or nsfw topics; not necessarily looking for nsfw/smut heavy threads by any means, but i can tell you right now i probably won't mesh well with someone who has to fade to black :c sorry.
i'll write over email, in gdocs, or via a discord server. i can't say i have much of a preference for any over the others; i'm also down for ooc over discord and the actual writing thread elsewhere. please note i DO NOT write here on tumblr.
given how recently the game came out and i finished it, i've not written for this fandom before. i certainly don't mind taking any constructive criticism if you think i've misrepresented/misconstrued a canon character.
i'm comfortable with canon/canon pairs and canon/oc ones of any genders/dynamics/orientations (m//, m/f, f//, trans + nb inclusive). if we can agree on a canon/canon pair, then i'm happy to leave it at that. if you'd like to go the canon/oc route, though, i do require us to double; like most everyone who's ever dabbled in fandom rp i won't be stuck writing the canon for the original without a little reciprocity.
i like long posts. how long is long, you ask? i like to stay at least around 3 paragraphs, though i can -- and do -- write more than that. all in all, i'm a mirror poster who enjoys fleshing out details and delving into characters' thoughts/feelings/motivations. my sweet spot is 4-6 paragraphs, but i'm more than willing to write novella/generally longer posts if you're game!
i don't do rapid-fire or one-liners or short, measly little single paragraphs. they make me sad and tend to indicate my partner's lack of interest or effort. that said, if your motivation is running dry and you need/want to stop, that's completely fine! honestly, if you ghost i won't chase after you, though i'll admit to a slight preference that you give me a chance to try and fix things up?
at the very least one post a week; i'd prefer around 3 a week, personally, but ofc irl stuff happens.
everything has to be in third person; absolutely no first or second. i default to past tense, but i'm perfectly fine with present if that's your preference!
beware spoilers below if you haven't finished the game!
you'll find the pairings i'm most interested in writing/am actively looking for as well as general ideas for plot/plot points below the cut!
so! i'm honestly not super sure about pairs, but i'm more than happy to talk them through with you? off the top of my head, i know i'd be interested in things like:
dion/joshua (it doesn't have to be in the terms of dion's perceived debt to joshua, but there's just such a nice familiarity there, especially after twinside and dion's drowning in guilt; maybe even bringing in memories of them meeting when they were younger)
hugo/benedikta (my favorite amoral duo who both just need to fuck off from dhalmekia and waloed and do whatever tf they want; also, hugo turning benedikta away from barnabas? his actual affection for her takes her by surprise; this dude doesn't actually just want to exploit and use her for his own ends? say whatttttt?)
dion/barnabas (i'm a terrible person; it's fine! :c but the whole dark v light theme? waloed v sanbreque? barnabas' whole crusade to kidnap bearers/dominants?)
benedikta/jill (mayhaps cid comes too late to save jill and benedikta absconds with her from the battlefield? i think they'd be able to relate to one another relatively well tbh, and plus i'd love to see jill a little more assertive/proactive)
cid/benedikta (purely platonic; i'd love to explore that dynamic, flesh out their background more; tbh, it'd probably be set in the background of an actual pair)
cid/barnabas (iâd loooooove the opportunity to explore their dynamic before cid up and left waloed; maybe cid even confided in barnabas at one point until barnabasâ loyalty to ultima comes out and cid feels betrayed? add benedikta into the mix and ooof. lots of drama potential, i think.)
clive/barnabas (especially in the context of clive having just lost to barnabas in a fight? won't master ultima be so pleased with you, mr warden of darkness? but then... wait. why won't you hand over mythos? clive somehow turning barnabas around? you love to see it)
clive/ultima (dark af and i'm not even sorry. but ultima...making it into clive's mind in a botched attempt to possess him? doesn't even need to be romantic or sexual, but just... a fucked up dynamic. ultima hitching a ride in the back of clive's consciousness? more than he already does?)
clive/joshua (shhhhhh. clive literally saying they've become one is just so darn platonic i can't even com pre hennnnnnd. i'd argue clive shows more emotion over joshua than anyone else in the game, and i'd be remiss in not exploring that further)
please note i have zero interest in writing clive/jill :c they're more of a brotp for me. sorry! i'd at least be willing to hear out other canon/canon pairs, but please don't be offended if i don't want to write them :c
i'd also be incredibly down for some canon/oc shenanigans, and ofc i'd happily double! gonna be super basic and ask for my partner to write clive for me tho; could absolutely be down for poly (cough with cid cough) but that's not necessary at all. also, ngl, i'd love to write a leviathan oc (for whom i already have a great deal of ideas...) i know, i know, the medicine girl is who everyone kinda suspects to be leviathan but, shhhhhhh ;o au for a reason, yeah? it's not confirmed anyway.
miscellaneous ideas
dominants v ultima (as it should have been imo; dominants protecting humanity, working together to try and save it instead of clive having to do it all basically alone)
more fallen lore? ngl, i was hit with such similarities from this game and ff12 i was half-convinced it was like, a thousand+ years post-ff12. i know it's not, but it could be interesting to bring in ff12 wrinkles into the fold? all the crysts and crystals and incorporeal beings directing humanity in the directions they want? plus AIRSHIPS. aetherfloods = jagd/myst? we don't have to go in the ff12 direction for more fallen lore, tho.
time-au a la: dominants returning to the time of the fallen/helping in the fight against ultima at dzemekys
some sort of magic that allows the dominants to retain information from previous hosts? warnings about ultima/crystals/the blight/etc?
people have compared ultima and jenova and... lbr. it would be incredibly interesting to see. ultima wants a host? too bad. jenova's cells have infected it; he can't direct it anymore. too bad every time he keeps trying jenova's still there.
these aren't all the plots i'd be interested in writing by any means, but, well. i think i've rambled on long enough. i hope i've managed to pique some interest, and if i have, feel free to reach out!

Hello! welcome to any and all to...
{ ~StarVerse~ }
a multiverse with a lot of interesting inviduals and some hidden secrets and lore behind it all!
a multiverse mostly consisting of fun, silly stuff! though, it can be serious too.. :)
but who am i to try and spoil that? ah of course! one of the mod's after all!
ah yes- there is not only one, but TWO people managing this blog (+ account!) and doing all the handiwork here!
let's see...
Mod Star đ
and...
Mod Kurokin đ¶
two different people, two different personalities...
oh what am i doing, trying to be all cryptic and mysterious? that is laughable, even for me! i am not even close to that irl...
as of right now- no characters are yet open for questioning at the moment! but you can ask me and kurokin about anything that may intrigue you-
-or you are simply curious about us! that is fine as well, just keep the asks civil and we won't have any problems now, oki? we don't want to cause any drama here at all, so please don't start one..^^'
ah, silly me..i haven't properly introduced myself! (technically)
i am one of the mod's here! specifically mod star, of course! here is what you should know about us!
âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ
Mod Star đ
the pronouns i use are Ne/Nem/Nemself! but you can use they/them and he/him! i don't mind ^^
i am a person who..simply doesn't even know what they're doing- i just go with the flow and sometimes it works-
i am a minor, and so is kin, so please don't be weird about..well, everything really.
i am a trans nonbinary using neopronouns! and..well, a questioning aroace person who is also pansexual! ..tho i may be questioning that part too.
i am also a writer and the creator of this multiverse! ..it's actually not a new multiverse- it's a pretty old one that i finally found the courage to make a blog about!
...kinda nerve-wracking actually.
but i won't let that stop me! i want to at least try and let myself be comfortable with what i do- and right now, i want to do this!
whoops- coming back in on rambling about myself!
i am NOT comfortable with nfsw/suggestive asks, heavy gore, slurs, etc etc.
and i am not comfortable with people that are pushy and try to force me or kin to rush things because- again. me and kin are MINORS, who go to SCHOOL (it doesn't matter that we have vacation right now) you guys have to be patient for an update/new post, alright?
âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ~âĄ
Mod Kurokin đ¶
My pronouns are He/Him or They/Them
I have social anxiety, so I get very nervous when meeting or talking to new people at first, but don't worry about talking to me though since I always respond, and I'll get comfortable eventually.
I actually use Microsoft Paint on my laptop when drawing, I've been using that to draw for 6 years now.

đ«â ïžBoundaries + DNI's + Infoâ ïžđ«
do not start fights, nor drag me and kin into them at all. this goes for any drama that happens.
dni if you are a pro/comshipper, maps, a predator, someone who wants to cause trouble or be an asshole. this will result in a block, i'm sorry but if you won't respect boundaries, a block will be your result at this point.
pls don't tag this blog in any posts- just the two blogs that me, star, is using currently ^^'
if you want to make fanart, go ahead! just don't make it suggestive or nsfw (especially about the characters on this blog ^^')
don't be pushy about updates, or force us to rush things, be patient pls..
i (star) will delete any asks that seem fake or even harmful towards anyone on this blog. so don't even try.
and i think that's all for boundaries + dni's ig? will update if need be.
this blog is sfw, but there will be heavy topics like depression, SH, SA, ED, and a lot more perhaps? i genuinely don't know myself, but look out for any of those!
nothing is canon in..well, everything. designs, personality, behavior etc. but then again, not every interpretation is canon, now are they?
do know there will be use of gacha to come with answering asks! mostly in comic form, technically.
also, when asks are open to any characters, pls know you have limited questions for them! and if they are similar, i will have to screenshot and put them together!
currently-
you only have 10 questions to ask any of the characters here!
yep, 10! originally i was gonna do 15 but i thought it would be too much for me and kin. so 10 it is, unless i change my mind.
tho, any questions you have for me and kin are unlimited! ask as much as you like of us! we don't really mind at all ^^

(PART 1) "Ursha"
Human reader on a space team with larger, scarier, and stronger alien teammates
Notes: SFW, platonic, fluff, reader has a neutral-polite-sweet personality. (The reader doesnt talk in this one but will later) THIS IS VERY INFO-DUMPY WITH LONG CHARACTER EXPLANATIONS. Not proof read, sorry for any mistakes. I'm posting this at 1 AM.
I didn't have a better word for it than "space team" but basically its just like a group of astronauts who do stuff like transport supplies. Space truckers lol. Also my FIRST like, fic basically.
-------------------------------------
Some of your crewmates aren't exactly on friendship level with you, but they're all mature and professional at the very least- you do not want drama on an isolated spaceship in the middle of literally no where. (At least, for the most part)
But, the ones who do care about you (at least a little) are:
Ursha- introduction Not her real name, but a nickname she presented to you on your first day meeting her. Speaking multiple languages is a must for this line of work, but theres plenty of different translators to make it work as well. Apparently, its the closest sounding thing to her actual name- while also being a bit shorter. You haven't done much research on her species, but apparently although they are physically capable of more structured speech, their language consists of guttural sounds and whining. You haven't heard her speak it, but maybe one day she'll let you.
Ursha isn't exactly a teddy bear. She has a stony, matter-of-fact personality. She's about 7'6", with semi scaly red skin that dapples into a deeper shade on the tops of her strong arms (which she has 4 of) and down her forehead to the end of her nose. Her face is similar to a predator from the predator movies, but with a slightly different mouth. More like a mandrill, but wider and generally thicker. Your other crewmate, who's quite the bookworm, has noted that Ursha is actually on the smaller side of her species average. She has straight deep red hair, tied back. You have never seen her hair down.
END OF INTRODUCTION
ïżŒThe first day you and Ursha met, she was seemingly unfazed, but looking back as you know her now, you realized that the minimal eye expressions showed that she was quite taken aback. The shorter you are, the more shocked she is. If you're below 5'8" this woman will not be able to understand how you won't get crushed by the slightest hazard. A shipping crate wasnt strapped in properly and its bindings snap? Smushed. Mild turbulence and you fall off the loading dock platform? Splat. Space pirates hijack the ship? The end of you. She eventually realized you were less defenseless than you seemed, especially with your gear, but she still tends to underestimate your ability. You know it comes from a good place though, and sometimes it almost feels sisterly. If you try to take on a heavy load she will seemingly materialize behind you and effortlessly take part of it. If other crew mates comment or even tease her about it, she will respond that you are simply ambitious and shes being responsible by keeping you from being OVER ambitious. Her delivery is completely neutral, not passive aggressive, not compassionate.
If you get injured she also seems to have a habit of suddenly appearing. She seems quite stealthy and fast for someone of her height and bulk. One time you had quite a bad fall- Although it was just tripping over yourself in the hallway- you managed to do a weird spin in attempts to steady yourself only to twist your ankle when you finally fell as your foot caught on your other leg. Along with landing on your knee and then elbow. That was not a fun day. Upon witnessing the horror of your baby giraffe-like movements and the gruesome finale, several crew mates- Ursha included- rushed over to make sure their small human teammate didn't just die. Two of them split off to alert the medic, while Ursha and one other crew mate stayed beside you. After the initial shock, you were left just stewing in a puddle of embarrassment and bodily pain. You felt a large hand gently hovering against your back, seemingly trying to comfort you while being afraid of breaking you even further. Like someone holding an injured bird. It was Ursha. The other teammate talked to you and both of them gently rotated you into a sitting position. At this point the other crewmates and the medic were arriving.
You were carried to the med bay where your foot was wrapped. You were advised to stay down for a couple days if not longer. After you healed, Ursha would always ask how your foot was when you both started work that day. And then every day. For like a year.

"With hindsight" Part 2 - a Yuna D. Kaito retrospective/analysis
Welcome to the second part of my retrospective on Yuna D. Kaito!
I remind you this is just a collection of scenes about Kaito from the whole story that I will be revisiting with the hindsight that Chapter 70 finally gave us. I'll try to give what I think is the right interpretation, but of course these are just my thoughts on the matter.
Continuing from Part 1, here we get into the heart of the story, while we find out more and more hints for Kaito's plan...but also hints for what's really in his heart.
My main goal with these posts is showing that the recent development didn't come out of the left field but there were actually subtle (or less subtle, but misunderstood due to prejudice) hints for it all along.
In this particular post, at some point, there'll be talk about heavy subjects related to life and death. The paragraph will have a warning beforehand, just to be sure, and you can skip to the next section if you want.
"The greatest magic artifact...Akiho-san herself" - Volume 6
After the huge event of the first time-rewind happening just merely a couple of chapters earlier, the end of volume 6 brings another earth-shaking revelation, along with many more important info.
First of all, since he completely dropped his "mask", we're shown for the first time how Kaito is immediately aware when Sakura creates a new Card. But that also confirms that he didn't meddle with those events, not in the beginning at least.
As I said previously, Kaito is someone who tends to act and intervene only at the last minute, when he cannot really avoid it anymore.
Even though the Card created by Sakura was so pivotal to the success of his plan, he really didn't intend to make her produce it by force. He still had time, so he hoped she would create it on her own without needing to resort to harsh methods. Another indication that he really wasn't keen on hurting Sakura at any moment of this plan. He was just standing there, going "oh!" when he could sense a vibration in the magic that suggested that Sakura's powers went out of control again, and soon another Card would be born. He just had to wait for the right one. A game of patience. Definitely a challenge for someone like him, used to obtain everything immediately, thanks to his magic.
We also get the first mentions about his plan: we acknowledge that he indeed needs a Card created by Sakura in particular, but that any of those new created ones will still be very useful to his goal (almost all the Cards in fact acted as "characters" for the story he prepared in Clockland).
We're informed that Momo is the guardian of the Book Akiho holds so dear, and that Kaito is trying to make that Book work to activate a forbidden spell.
Indeed, as we well know from chapter 70, everything went exactly as he wished for: they went inside the Book, he created the Clockland story using his memories and those of Akiho + Sakura in order to turn them sisters later on, the transparent Card he wanted was produced at the very last moment and he "piggybacked" Sakura's wish to exchange roles with Akiho to make an exchange himself.
But the biggest revelation (and one of the biggest misunderstandings) is that Kaito mentions "that's why I never returned it....the greatest artifact created by the Magic Association and that Clan...Akiho-san herself".
After this page, all the red flags and sirens probably went off in everyone's head, "omg he abducted her", "he wants to use her", "he's deceiving her"...but....to be honest, seeing the chapter with the first part of Akiho's past, and seeing how unhappy she was, we should've wondered immediately if that wasn't for the best.
Because it was.
He literally saved her life by never returning her to her clan.
Still, the sense of distrust in Kaito after this scene here (powered by that seemingly manic smile) persisted for long, long time in the fandom. And that was exactly what CLAMP planned us to feel like. Or rather, they wanted to see if we'd be able to get rid of this feeling the more the story went on.
Time magic at the behest of the Association - vol. 7
Just want to point out this small detail here - it tends to be forgotten, but Kaito didn't learn time magic when he decided to escort Akiho around the world, nor was given that ability by Momo.
He already knew how to work it, and has been using that dangerous type of magic ever since he was a kid, at the orders of the Association. Eriol obtained that information during his research.
This connects to chapter 70 because it made sense for them to impose a spell like the Seal of D on Kaito.
They knew he could use time magic, they knew he had no qualms in using it, and therefore that made him all the more dangerous to escort such a precious magic artifact in their eyes.
But most of all, this scene here confirms how Kaito himself was used and abused by the Association, in a similar way to what happened to Akiho. Scared of the terrible side effects, they ordered an emotionally stunted boy to use that magic on their behalf, well aware that it would've shaved off his life span. He didn't know any better, had a bleak existence because of how he grew up, he didn't have desires, so he couldn't really muster a will to refuse the orders.
"The boy didn't understand what was fun in that" - Volume 7
When talking about Kaito's past, CLAMP keep telling us "he didn't care for anyone, he didn't know what was fun in doing something with someone...spending time with them".
It's something they keep hammering because it's very indicative of how Kaito changed profoundly thanks to Akiho.
Now he experienced what's good in doing something for someone (not only all the things he did for her as her attendant, but also the very plan he set into motion, the sense of accomplishment we see in his final smile in chapter 70 comes directly from that), he experienced how good it can feel to spend time with someone (there's no doubt he loved spending time with Akiho, otherwise when given the chance - the time rewind at the date later on - he would've avoided it).
The only problem is.....he hasn't understood why yet. What really makes the difference here. Or rather, he stubbornly refused to acknowledge it till the end. And that stubborn ignorance led him to go on with his plan, thinking he was doing something good, oblivious to the effect this will have on Akiho later on when she'll find out what happened. That's why Momo cried "blockhead!!" in rage before he disappeared in chapter 70.
"Happy ending for whom?" - Vol. 7
And here we get HUGE, huge hints for what was coming up in the future.
Kaito was exhausted (Momo checks on him with a worried face) and fell asleep on a sofa, dreaming of his past and the moment that changed his life forever. The moment when the Association decided to tell him that they had just executed a magic ritual on the girl that he had certified as "magicless, like a blank book" long time before, in order to turn her into a magic artifact. Not "any girl", but the daughter of the only person who treated him with humanity for the little time they interacted with eachother.
If he was still dreaming of it now, years later, it meant that the event scarred his heart in a way that he didn't even fully understand himself. And we'll get confirmation of this only in chapter 60, 29 chapters after this one.
Kaito mentions that his dream looked "like a picture book", and Momo poses a clever question: "Does it look like this book will have a happy ending?".
We all took this question as figurative back then. But to imagine she actually was meaning it in a literal way, that we would really witness the characters becoming protagonists of a story set up by him! Again another hint under our noses.
Kaito confidently replies "It will (I'll make sure of it)", but that's when Momo (oh, I love her so much) comes with another sharper question that hits the bull's eye fully: "And that...will be a happy ending for whom, exactly?". My gosh. I don't know how Kaito didn't start second guessing after a question like that.
Because it's true, even though this might be the happy ending he imagined for Akiho (at his own expense, but he didn't care), it didn't even occur to him that this might not have been what she wanted at all. It didn't occur to him because of the complex feelings that his sense of disgust for himself and his guilt for what he had done to her were stirring in him. But we'll find out more about that later.
"She's really loved...by all the people involved with her" - vol. 7
Man, you can really feel we're halfway through the story, because in volume 7 are starting to surface a series of hints that become more and more specific to the revelation of Kaito's plan.
Kaito and Momo had just sensed that Ruby Moon and Spinel Sun came to Japan on behalf of Eriol, and Kaito knows very well that Eriol is venturing in scheming that far for his dear Sakura's sake.
And then....Kaito becomes sad? melancholic? for one moment...with a quite painful expression.
"She's really loved...by all the people involved with her"
This expression here kept me (and I'm sure not only me) wondering for long, long time. Years. It's apparent he's feeling a pang of sadness because Sakura's blessing with people who love and care for her wasn't granted on Akiho as well. But was he only feeling sad for Akiho? And what exactly that expression represented, was there envy for it? Longing?
Did he resent Sakura for the blessing of a loving entourage?
Now we know he really didn't. Of course the idea that CLAMP wanted to instill in our heads was that Kaito wanted to exchange the girls and felt envy/resentment towards Sakura, for the countless, shameless luck and privileges she was blessed with. I had fallen for that interpretation too for some time, because it kinda made sense. Seeing his past, his background, his upbringing...and the fact that Sakura was basically a stranger to him.
And Momo's further comment that Akiho loved Sakura too, with the subsequent silence from Kaito, was really staged by CLAMP in a way that could suggest Kaito was having second thoughts about his plan, because if he hurted Sakura, Akiho would've been sad.
But now it doesn't really seem like that was the case anymore. We know he never intended to hurt Sakura, nor exchanging them, from the very beginning.
I think here his storming feelings are originating not only from Akiho's situation, but also from his own need to be loved. A need that was naturally born in him along the years, but could not find its way to be acknowledged and expressed properly. And Momo mentioning that Akiho loved Sakura as a friend only contributed to make him feel even more alone, outside that "circle" of people loving eachother. He's excluded from this, because in his head he won't ever have someone who loves him. He's a bad person with a locking seal imposed on him that will swallow him whole at the end of this journey. Which is why...
"Because it's about you, Akiho-san" - Vol. 7
...when Kaito nonchalantly blurts out "Because it's about you, Akiho-san" in response to Akiho's question on how does he know perfectly everytime she's coming home to let her find her afternoon snacks ready, Momo becomes livid. So much that she wants to send him flying with a kick.
Because Akiho of course cannot help but running away, red in the face like the reddest tomato, in front of such sweet declaration of affection from him. It's like he's saying "you're important to me, so of course I always know everything about you, I have a sixth sense for you" and that would be perfectly fine, if it weren't for his otrageous obliviousness. His "?" face in front of a raging Momo is further proof of that. Remember when she said, in the Drama CD 2, "it's true they say people know the least about themselves"?
He's uttering it himself and yet he doesn't understand the full meaning of the words that are spilling out of his mouth. Nor he understands the effect they have on Akiho (because he's oblivious to her feelings as well).
Kaito never ever admitted that he's doing all of this for Akiho's sake, never spelled out that he cares about her and loves her in his own way. Even though it's apparent to everyone by now. And this obliviousness, or this refusal? to see the truth is precisely the reason why the success of his plan will only bring misery to Akiho in the long run. Despite he wanted (deep down in his heart) nothing more than making her happy.
"I will read more books" - vol. 7
If we exclude the scene where Kaito gets closer to Akiho during stopped time at the end of Vol. 5, this is the first time we clearly see Kaito hurting for something. The first time he clearly lets slip a sort of weakness in front of Akiho. And you can guess it, it's got always something to do with her.
This is the very first, timid proof that what little Kaito said on that fateful day of some years earlier had wrecked him in every possible way and had pushed him to give all of him to make things right.
Akiho says something really innocent, "I will read more and more books! I will memorize so many more things...!" because poor her, she just couldn't bear to keep embarrassing herself in front of her most important person with her clumsy, ignorant takes.
Little did she know, she had just pierced his heart with a knife at that very moment.
Because "reading more books" is not just an innocent, healthy activity, but in her case can also actually mean to push herself one step closer to death. And since it all started with something Kaito unintentionally said, the mere thought wrecks him more than 100 spells attacking him.
Kaito defends his 'family' - vol. 7
Allow me to comment on this scene, because I really need to point out something that will be more subtly connected to what happened in chapter 70 (we get into dark thematics related to death, so beware and skip to the next paragraph if you're sensitive on the matter).
The Magic Association tried to attack the Shinomoto mansion, likely to take Akiho back. Of course Kaito sensed it and counterattacked, using time magic.
Here he commented "As long as they continue to not include time magic (in their spells), due to their weakness and fear of its devastating effects on their bodies, it's going to have the same result every time".
The thing that immediately becomes apparent for people reading this for the first time is that Kaito not only betrayed the confraternity of people he was once part of, but he also despises them, thinks very little of them and probably has done so for quite some time (with all the reasons of this world).
Then, it's also very apparent how he indirectly poses himself in contrast to their actions: "they're weak and cowards, that's why they don't use time magic. While I have no qualms in using it. I am not afraid of what will happen. No one is gonna stop me".
Then....if we dig deeper...we also find something more personally concerning Kaito, in his sentence.
He's indirectly showing he acknowledged that they kept using him when he was a child to perform tasks that required time magic, because they were too coward to use it themselves. He acknowledges they used him, and lord only knows when that realization came about, probably after starting his journey with Akiho and staying away from that toxic environment for some time.
And that realization came with his greatest act of rebellion.
"I hate myself, I'll always be alone and am not interested in continuing living this life, but at the very least I won't ruin myself at your behest anymore. I WILL BE THE ONE to decide how and what to exhaust my life on". It is of course a terrible, horrible way to see the worth of his own life, but at the same time a desperate scream for self-determination that personally I can't ignore. For how horrible it is, this is Kaito calling the shots for what concerns him. He's not existing for the use and abuse of other people anymore. And this is also part of why he shows that self-satisfied smile at the end of ch. 70, although mixed with other emotions.
Of course, he made such decision with a mindset of someone who got nothing to lose. Nothing, or no one. And this is where he was terribly wrong.
Rewind & the silencing spell - vol. 7
Sakura produced the Rewind Card, and for the first time ever, we get a comment from Kaito indicating that, although it's not exactly the one he was looking for, it went quite close.
Now that we know that the Card he was looking for is Exchange, we can infer in which ways Rewind went close to it, but wasn't exactly what he was looking for.
I think Rewind was simply incomplete for the full plan Kaito had.
Rewind showed to be capable to change the appearance of someone to make look them like they were in a previous state. In Syaoran's case, it made him look like when he was very little, because that was what Sakura was thinking about when she created the Card. Even if Kaito wished, thanks to Rewind, to restore Akiho's situation back to when she wasn't turned into a magic artifact yet, that would've been only a superficial change. Rewind doesn't seem to have (for now) the full potential of the time-rewindings operated by Kaito. Sakura didn't actually travel in time to bring a little Syaoran back from those times, as Syaoran still had his own teenager conscience. The "change" doesn't operate at deep level, basically, and so it was insufficient for Kaito's plan.
Furthermore, in this same scene, we see him activating the silencing spell on Syaoran. Again, a move made at the very last moment, when Sakura had already found out that she was the one giving birth to those Cards. To be honest I still don't feel like this was malicious at all. He could've thought up so, so many harsher ways to stop them from interfering with his plans if he meant any harm to them. Messed with their minds, made them forget (Eriol did so with Yue!!), I don't know.
Instead, he chose this way, exposing himself even further, because why only mentions of Akiho and Kaito would get "blocked"? Of course that made so apparent that the spell came from him, and he somehow wanted Syaoran to know it did. Probably as a way to suggest "it's me, please don't interfere more than this". Of course, as I said before, Kaito is not here to f*ck around, so he found himself forced to use this silencing spell, or cutting off Eriol from communication, or to use all the time-rewinds he used.
The first decision I've ever made for myself - vol. 7 and vol. 8
I look at the first picture of this paragraph and I laugh, because I remember when this chapter came out people were making fun of Kaito, calling him "creep" for spying on a middle school (a swimming class, at that đ
). But looking at that smile now, with the hindsight of what we know...it's such a sweet smile. He seems genuinely happy to see Akiho enjoying her time with all her classmates. He loves to see all the bonds she created.
But that heartwarming feeling lasts very little, as his "half-assed" (as I always call it, what was that 'wave' for?) attempt to make Sakura create a new Card triggers Akiho's book, and for the first time ever we see it in action, making her lose her conscience completely.
The proof is that "Akiho" doesn't talk with her usual voice, but with the voices of the Association and the Clan. As you can see, at her feet, we see the same "book pages" that will engulf Kaito at the end of chapter 70 too (therefore almost confirming that's where he is right now, inside the damned book).
As both Momo and Kaito confirm, the spell that will eventually crush her soul is still very much active on her and not too far from its final goal. We get a glimpse of a very sorrowful expression from Kaito while he says with his own words that probably those people are hoping that the spell will crush Akiho's soul. This expression alone shoul've already been enough to confirm what Kaito's intentions were. But also how much he felt responsible for that atrocity.
Kaito doesn't have a choice, he will use *more* time magic to put some sort of "seal" on the book inside Akiho (freezing its time), full aware that this is just a patch and won't solve any problem definitively. But at least it should keep everyone (Sakura & Syaoran included, since it activated mostly in their presence) safe while he tried to bring his plan to completion.
Also...I can't help but point out how he softly caresses her face again before starting his spell, such a sweet gesture that almost seems as if saying "sorry" for performing a magic on her without the girl being aware.
Once again, he allows himself to be this sweet with her only when she's not aware of it. Knowing what we know now, it's no wonder why.
And here it is...probably the most important scene beside the one where he made a choice and said "I'll go".
His first conversation with Akiho.
For him, this wasn't really the first 'meeting'. Indeed, later on he will talk again about this moment and he will specifically use the japanese word for "conversation". Because although from afar, the very first time he met her was through the magic sphere.
Of course she was way too little to remember. So while for her this might have been effectively her first meeting with him, for him it wasn't, and his kind, sweet smile is proof of that.
He went there already knowing who she was, her background, who she was the daughter of, what happened to her, and prepared so that he could make her feel at ease from the very start. Of course someone must have taught him this, because before this scene he used to have such a dead stare. He looked like he never smiled once in his whole life.
My idea is that, after making his contract with Momo, she "trained him". For his smiles and everything else. Taught him how to interact properly with other people, since he was so averse to it beforehand.
This theory I have comes from the fact she's the one who told him, in one of the Drama CDs, "please laugh more properly! even it's a fake laugh!".
Anyway, this scene is so powerful because it's not only drawn in such a "fateful meeting" way, but also because this fountain and rose garden will appear later on in Clockland too, summoned by the magic of Momo's book browsing through Kaito's memories.
While other people might argue that this is also the place where he met Lilie once, I'd daresay first meetings and talks are more likely to leave such a big impression on someone. When he met Lilie there, it was one of their regular meetings (and clearly not the first one), while with Akiho it was the meeting that would start their journey together, and start the process of how his whole life would change thanks to her.
It's definitely not by chance that he's remembering this important moment while he discloses to the readers for the first time that "I made a decision that day. The first decision I've ever made for myself".
Stopping the time of the book inside Akiho proves to be very arduous.
So arduous that Kaito is sweating and panting at the end of it.
Not only that, but the book itself activates some sort of "defense" (that black matter that comes out of Akiho, the same black matter that comes out when she loses consciousness) and literally attacks Kaito. You can see it hitting him in several spots.
He looks stubborn and unstoppable, though. Even with the magic of the book hurting him, he still pushes through with his spell for the sake of Akiho.
Momo is taken aback because she didn't know *anything* of this idea of his, and she's really mad when he's done.
Always for the same reason.
Because while he can realize her change of mood without any problem ("You look even angrier now" "Ah, you can understand *that* just fine, hm? And yet you don't understand what's really important"), he hasn't understood Akiho's feelings nor his own, yet. And he keeps insisting in disregarding his life like it's nobody's business. The very core of the problem that will persist till chapter 70 lies all there.
Small detail I like to point out: Kaito's time magic isn't infinite. After he exerted himself on stopping Akiho's book, the magic he used to stop time for everyone literally starts to crumble apart, signifying that its effect will vanish very soon. This will happen again later on, in a *very* different situation.
Whenever Kaito's magic focus falls short, whether it's due to physical or emotional matters, his magic is affected and falls apart.
And with this scene of the beginning of volume 8 I will conclude this second part of my analysis! đ
I have to be honest, when I started this "project", it was totally propelled by the strong feelings that chapter 70 gave me, but I thought I would finish this in 1, 2 posts maximum....but along the way, I found myself wanting to talk about so many scenes đthat I'm not even sure I'll be able to finish this within the 3rd post đđđespecially cause later on there'll be more and more hints scattered around...god help me đ
At this point I can say for sure that part 3 will come after the release of chapter 71, so see you later for my monthly translation + commentary post!! đ
#card captor sakura#cardcaptor sakura#clear card arc#yuna d. kaito#ccs spoilers#akiho shinomoto#yunaaki#akiyuna#god this will be soooo long now that I realized how many scenes I want to talk about#what did I put myself into đ#please don't infer that Kaito is absolutely blameless and perfect by the sheer amount of love I have for him and that emerges from my posts#I think it's clear by the amount of times I've mentioned it that he's making a terrible mistake#and it's ok because he's human and still very inexperienced at many things#the authors don't call him openly 'immature' for no reason#but there are certain things that have no meaning if you don't come to understand them on your own#I know that 'sealing him off' in that book is clamp's way to give him his hail mary pass before it's too late#let's see if being away from her will make him understand now#Welcome to the Kaito Educational Channel

dont mind me just ranting a little. i really hate the fact that honkai players in youtube comments always acts like they know the lore when their statement and argument is baseless speculation with no source whatsoever "we dont have enough information" "i think" when said info is available and straight up told in main story available on global. not to mention how the community LOVES to exaggerate how "depressing" honkai is like they have never seen an actually tragic and depressing death. constantly going "oh noooo character A is going to die đđđ" when it will literally ruin their whole character arc. no seriously honkai story is wholesome compared to many stories with heavy themes. all deaths have meaning or are painted in a thick rose colored glass, the theme of the story is heartwarming (fight for all that is beautiful in the world) and they arent even in a post apocalyptic world setting. the honkai community seriously lacks people who openly critique the story writting with most overglorifying its writting.
:â)
I think itâs because Honkai got dark and then got lighter, but people didnât really update their mental image to fit the lighter part of the story?
and now people have said itâs dark so much but it outright REFUSES to be dark anymore.
Aponia was nothing but simpery and good intentions, Kevin refuses to even consider killing Hua, Theresa is safe and sound and asleep away from the plot, the sims died and left Mei âfulfilledâ rather than sad, nobody is mad at her for colluding with the enemy eitherâŠ
Iâm not mad that good things happen, but I like it when I think things might turn bad, too. I loved the darkness of the deaths in EEâ itâs just that the ending basically makes them pointless, erasing the darkness with the rose tinted glasses. Honestly if theyâd been just a little less intense on the Mary Sue Elysia they wouldâve had me with a favorite chapter. It was dark and then it had a lighter twist and a kinder endingâ much like Shattered Samsara, but it just doesnât work at all for me.
Weird isnât it? Shattered Samsaraâs my favorite animation, too. What did they get wrong?
I think, in great part, Shattered Samsara was great because we were used to horrible outcomes and we were surprised by a good one. Thereâs pleading and emotional tension and the kinder ending is earned by Kiana struggling through pain and acknowledging all of it, all the darkness, and sheâll help Hua carry that burden. Itâs cathartic, itâs awesome, and heartwarming, and until she decides that NO she wonât accept the sacrifice you donât quite know Hua will survive this. (midway through).
Everlasting Flames and Because of You both have a fakeout loss that donât hold up two secondsâ thereâs no tension because we know they win. Narratively thereâs no doubt that theyâre gonna win. If they lost, it wouldâve subverted our expectations, but Mihoyo refuses to let them lose anything, especially Everlasting Flames. For Kiana this still works because itâs her apogee, her triumphant moment; a surprise would have meant the story has another twist coming, so itâs⊠fine. Good, just not as emotionally intense due to predictability. Itâs good.
For Elysia⊠the exact outcome was more uncertain, but the surprise would have been that someone survives. They announced the deaths and then they died. Either no tension or disappointment. Itâs the third animation in a row I was getting bored by, and itâs a treat for the eyes but not narratively significant in any way.
Everlasting Flames is a triumph; its narrative consequence is showcasing Kianaâs final push of growth into a realized individual.
Thus Spoke Apocalypse is a bittersweet epitaph for a man who announced that heâd die to accomplish his goal, and did. It isnât necessarily all that interesting (it wasnât to me, I skipped through) but itâs got the narrative significance of giving him the ending he has strived for all this time. Itâs a reward for Otto just as much as itâs his funeral.
Because of YouâŠ
You get exactly what you were told you would get and you can skip the animation entirely without missing anything. Elysia tells Mei sheâs going to fight, take back the other sims, then destroy ER, and she does exactly that in that order. It has no narrative value beyond giving a band-aid of a conclusion to an arc that skidded and refused to acknowledge death is tragic in its last moment, too focused on trying to state over and over and over again what we already knew: that thereâs beauty and goodness in the world. (Not despite the bad. The bad gets such little consequence that it might as well not exist. The Show not Tell rule is crying.)
People have called out Because of You claiming it copies Everlasting Flames but thatâs not quite right; itâs that they share the same story beats (main character gets beaten by Herrscher then rises again in very shiny glory thanks to the power of friendship).
Except for Everlasting Flames, you could forgive that because it was a peak, a triumphâ glory is predictable, but you can get fucked over in an infinite amount of ways.
Thereâs just no tension. Thus Spoke Apocalypse I got bored halfway but at least it had angsty flashbacks and a bittersweet endâ if Iâd actually cared for Ottoâs fate I wouldâve probably enjoyed it very much. I like nuance.
Everlasting Flames didnât need nuance because it was about glory and growth and Kiana coming into her own.
Because of You needed nuance so bad, and it didnât get it. Closest we get is HoC saying she did think Elysia is beautiful which is⊠honestly kind of laughable.
And ever since that part of the story, nothing really dark has been allowed to happen? Earth people are gone but literally not ONE person we know has been affected so far. Schicksal HQ and Salt Lake Base are fine. The robot guy is cool with his new body his bestie Jackal made for him. Stigma will end in dreams rather than blood even if the villains get their way. Bronya basically greets Mei with âhiâ, feeling no negative emotion whatsoever despite being one of those to pick up the pieces after Mei left Kiana for World Serpent, weâre not even allowed to play their spar. I havenât caught up with the update from yesterday but I donât think thereâs a lot of tragedyâ couldnât they have at least made a flame-chaser one of the living dead for some real pain? Itâs just MEI being like whelp weâre gonna die anyway and Prometheus going :/ so far.
I donât think spoiler culture makes any sense, and this isnât that. Itâs about tension. Itâs about taking me along on the roller coaster ride and making me fear the speed and the height even when I know Iâm safe. This is turning into a merry go round in a bad way. :T

my very very very long introduction to the welcome home fandom + set of rules
hello everyone!!!!!!
i got into welcome home a little while ago now, and i have finally gotten enough courage to put my headcanons and writing out into the world! and of course, you can request! (when the askbox is open ^_^ of course!!) i do have a few obvious or not-so-obvious rules though, as per every blog! rules below the cut :) it's long!
you CAN; ⊠ask for '(character) and reader'! it is the only thing i specialize in after all on this particular blog lolol, types of pairings that that i don't do are in my 'cannot' section, and if your idea is not there, dm me and i'll see if i can do it! :o) ⊠if you guys have anything in particular you'd like to share, i would love to hear it! i encourage it!! i like hearing everybody's ideas on things! personal headcanons, ideas or thoughts on a character or two, it's all a-okay with me! you can even ask me what i think on a character @:) ⊠ask for fluff, some light angst, hurt/comfort, go wild with it! headcanons galore!!!!!! ⊠ask more than once!
⊠just send silly stuff into my askbox LOL, try not to blow it up though!! you CANNOT;
âą ask for NSFW, incest, or anything of the like. the first of which (NSFW), clown themself has prohibited because they're not 100% sure if they're comfortable with it yet, and the rest of it is just a blatant, heavy no. âą ask for anything on gore or anything TOO heavy on a dark subject. please DM me if you're curious what goes over the line, it's just that i am a person too! sorry if this disappoints!! :( âą ask for anything other than GN reader. sorry :( i just prefer to stick with GN as it applies to everybody who might pass by my post, and if they decide to read it, i want it to apply to them!
âą ask for oc/character :( again, i'm sorry! there's nothing wrong with that kinda stuff, i've just never been too good at it, as i don't know much about your oc! established characters have always just been easier for me, but i could change this in the future! âą ask for character/character yet! it's still undecided for me as i'm not quite sure how everybody feels on some ships, as even when all some ships are completely normal, the shipping discourse is REAL across every fandom.
âą ask for frank x reader (romantic) or eddie x reader (romantic), sorry to all frank and eddie simps out theređjust not my place! extra info i will have to update my set of rules and the characters i will write for as time goes on, as new information will inevitably come out, and my writing may be TOTALLY out of character as well! but this blog is simply for fun, and as time goes on, things will change :) and i will adapt accordingly! if i get anything wrong about the characters, please do inform me in DMs! i will resolve the issue as quickly as possible, and make an attempt to edit, or delete the posts in the worst case scenario! i do keep myself updated on them to the best of my abilities, but sometimes i will miss things! even if it is something small, do not hesitate to inform me that that character actually HATES that food, or dislikes being around that kind of weather! and please link me to the source of the info you found if possible, or try to direct me better to it! if and when i receive a request for a reader with any disability or condition, i will try to write it the best i can, even if i do not personally have it or have ever experienced anything like it. if there is anything i can do to improve on my writing with certain subjects, DM me! i will take whatever you give and do my best to include it :) please do not criticize me too heavily for my writing skills. i am still improving on it as we go along, so try to hold back on anything like that! i am not the fastest at getting requests done, but i will definitely try, and i am hoping life doesn't get too busy! if the askbox is closed, do note that it is probably because i have at least 5 or more requests in it, and i need to sort through them, and take my time! or i may just want to write for myself atm! i hope that is reasonable :) i am a HUGE julie fan, if you request for her i am more likely to leave a huge chunk bitten out of my monitor and have eaten all the key caps to my keyboard with only the letters "J U L I" and "E" left. i love writing for julie LOL đđđ that is it, from what i know! do what you will with all of this, and enjoy yourself, neighbor!!!!!
#welcome home#welcome home x reader#gender neutral reader#wally darling x reader#julie joyful x reader#and more!!!#i forgot how to do rule posts so sorry if this is way too long lol#just wanna be precise!

ok u know what? sure, I'll share what my brain was doing
Spoilers for what I'll be talking about, read as far as you dare!
so there's this webcomic that I like, yeah? it's called Jupiter-Men. Teen superhero story with a saturday-morning cartoon feel to it. Been reading for almost a year now, would recommend.
Over the past few days the author (@/actionkiddy) has been posting artwork leading up to the season 1 finale that drops next week, and strangely, the countdown started on day 10. This gave me a pause, bc wouldn't a 14-day or 7-day countdown make more sense? And why are the protagonists sitting on an L-looking shape?
The days come, and so do the artworks.
9 days left. Background looks like a blob of color. Maybe what I thought I saw was nothing?
8 days left. Still looks like a blob of color, I was probably tripping out at first. But hey, the panels that make up the backgrounds are summarizing the comic's arcs up until now, that's pretty cool!
7 days left. Definitely just the panels being shaped into cool shapes (I also like this art a lot)
6 days le- NEVERMIND THERE'S SOMETHING BEING SPELLED HERE.
I go back and review the shapes again, and sure enough:
L-U-P-I-T
Ten days. Ten letters. What could it spell? Is it an anagram? There's no "L" in "Jupiter-Men" though......
wait.
The character on the 7-days-left artwork.... his name is Arrio McKay, and his late mom is from another dimension, called Magi. People from other dimensions are not allowed onto Earth - or "Prime" as the dimension is known as - under normal circumstances, and his mother is no exception.
But... she stayed. Mrs. McKay stayed on Prime for several years, at LEAST 11, because that's how old Arrio was when she died.
Now, crash course on a small bit of JM lore:
(both panels are from ch. 46, second image edited for relevant info)
In Jupiter-Men, when one from a foreign dimension crosses into Prime, they require an item called an anchor in order to stay on Prime, lest they get forced off by the laws of the multiverse and its' relation to Prime specifically. The average anchor can only hold its' bearer to Prime for a couple hours before it breaks, maybe a day or two from what little we've seen so far.
But a special anchor, made by Prime's protector, the Star Guardian? It can last for however long the Star Guardian wishes.
This means that L-U-P-I-T-a McKay was not only in contact with the Star Guardian, she got special permission from him to stay. This honor is usually only given to people with connections to the highest levels of government in a particular dimension, and the trips are usually (?) short. It seems to be implied that any anchors created by anyone other than the Star Guardian are the ones in the black market, so Arrio's mother being allowed to stay on Prime for a whole 11 YEARS AND COUNTING is a VERY BIG DEAL.
But she's dead. Arrio is haunted by her death; poor boy has nightmares on the subject even 5 years later.
And that's just it. That was 5 years ago at the time of the comic's events, but she started haunting the narrative Arrio's part of the narrative after he learned of his heritage. Arrio is technically half banished from Prime, so the fact that he can stay on Prime seemingly without an anchor is... interesting to say the least.
Perhaps Lupita will start haunting more than just a tiny part of the narrative now.
Of course, there's also the possibility that her grave is empty, since uh.
That explanation is very dodgy.
There's more suspicious things in Arrio's story in the actual comic of course, but I have neither the time nor the energy to go over them right now. (The comment section did most of the heavy lifting for those other points anyways, so just. Read the comic ;))

Rings of Power âReview,â featuring wood-elves and gender
Iâm writing this for two reasons. Firstly, processing things in writing sometimes lets me stop obsessively thinking about them and actually get on with my life, which has been a major issue for me this past week. Second, people keep asking me what I think of the show and who I think The Stranger is (which I wonât actually be talking about here, but short answer is one of the Istari, probably Gandalf, which doesnât make canonical/historical sense but does make narrative sense, though the Blue Wizards make historical/timeline sense, based on drafts/notes â phew!). Anyway, it is exhausting and anxiety-provoking to give the same thoughts to people across different parts of my life repeatedly, so I am putting it all in one place, though I would not count on this every week. So. Transitioning to the essay, which will be heavily footnoted, just like the Professor himself. I am not sorry.Â
Thoughts on Rings of Power: Episodes 1 and 2
Rings of Power (RoP) has proved to be a different story than most of us could have guessed, given the scant scaffolding provided on the First and Second Ages in the The Hobbit (TH), The Lord of the Rings (LotR), and the LotR Appendices, those sources show-creators actually have access to directly use. (Admittedly, info on the Second Age anywhere is sparse, per not only Tolkienâs own admission in Letters but fansâ own scouring of the texts and drafts for scraps of lore.) In this post, I want to talk about some of the things I loved and did not love about the first two episodes of this particular adaptation. I will try not to get super into the weeds with lore here, because most people who follow me in these spaces already understand how this adaptation changed major plot, character history, and historical points. Instead, I want to talk about (a) my personal experiences with RoP, including (i) pre-watching anxieties and beliefs and (ii) watching- and fandom-related joys; and (b) my ongoing and developing thoughts about (i) Silvan and Nandorin representation in the context of intra-elven relations in the larger legendarium and (ii) concepts of gender reflected in RoP design choices.
Personal Experience
First, I want to talk about how I prepared for this adaptation, which is that I acknowledged it, ignored it, and then went feral with excitement (and debilitating anxiety) about it, all within the course of a one-year period. Anyone who knows me in fandom probably knows thatâwhen I have enough energy to consistently engageâI try very hard to make the Tolkien world a welcoming place for people. As someone who was a child/teen in online Tolkien fandom as Peter Jacksonâs adaptations were coming out (yes, I discovered fanfiction perhaps way too early), I was quite traumatized by some older, lore-heavy fans who vehemently correctedâand sometimes even subtly mockedâme as I was working my way through the appendices, the Silmarillion, and Unfinished Tales. I am therefore very passionate about civility (within reasonâI draw the line at supremacist nonsense) in fandom spaces. Ultimately, I never want rejection or belittlingâsubtle or outrightâto be how people experience Tolkien fandom, or even scholarship: gatekeeping helps no one. (Insert boost for the new blog @tolkienfandomagainstgatekeeping!).
Still, while I did preach kindness and encouraged welcoming behavior in the year preceding the release, I nevertheless experienced a lot of change-related anxiety as a neurodivergent person preparing for the potential fandom-related change bound to happen in online Tolkien communities as we processed the new show; dealt with some peopleâs real (and, admittedly, sometimes scary) rage regardingâand therefore their disingenuous attempts to derail the success of the show due toârace and white supremacy; and, finally, prepared for the influx of fans to the open system of online fandom. I had to take a break from actively engaging with fandom because I could not handle the constant RoP-related emotional stimulus from all sides. However, when I saw the final RoP trailer, their sweeping vision of Middle-earth blew me awayâmy anxiety morphed into excitement by the end of those three minutes. I did not sleep the night before it came out, and I had to take off work the days after to emotionally recover from it.[1] (I unfortunately do not make the rules for how, when, and why my brain is overstimulated.)
Appreciated Moments
At this point, I will transition to a few things that I absolutely loved. This section is less critical and lore-heavy than the following ones, but we will start with a pseudo-lore moment I loved: the symbolism of the opening scene with Galadriel and the other children. While the show cannot talk about the Kinslayingsâwhich is hugely problematic to me from an elven relations and politics perspective (more on that later)âthis scene is very clearly an allusion to the Kinslaying at AlqualondĂ« and the burning of the Telerin swan boats.[2] Whether these children who are harassing Galadriel are actually her Feanorian cousins or not, we cannot guess for certain, as we donât have a clear birthdate for most of the younger Finweans.[3] (Further, if we think about it too hard, things get complicated and confusing very quickly.)[4] Still, it was a nice little homage to the parts of history the show is not allowed to talk aboutâI teared up due to the beauty of the setting combined with the lore it evoked, which is a very near and dear part of the legendarium to me. That being said, I think that opening scene made some of the lore choices that followed hurt all the more for those of us who did immediately understand the reference, as it alluded to an imminent complexity and nuance that, for me, the show ultimately did notâand, frankly, cannotâdeliver. Still, I liked it. Mostly.
Next, I appreciated moments of the dwarven representation, and every single moment of the dwarven design. Having been introduced to LotR prior to Peter Jacksonâs (PJâs) adaptation, I latched onto a few characters at a young age and, for meâfor some reasonâthat was Legolas and Gimli. Gimli in the books is rational yet passionate but, more than anything, he is silvertongued and poetic. As much as I love John Rhys-Daviesâ performance in the PJ films, the writers made some mistakes in their choices regarding his role as, almost entirely, comic relief. The representation in the dwarves of Khazad-dum/Moria in this adaptation goes some way in repairing the lasting image of dwarves that took hold in fan communities following the PJ films. I found the opening sceneâin which the dwarves challenged Elrond to aâŠshow of strength?âa little hard to follow and a bit strange and othering given the show is told almost entirely from an elven point of view thus far, but I was overall pleased. I found Durin III and Disa likable, and the scene at the kitchen table went a long way to endearing Elrondâs character in this adaptation to me, while cementing Disa as an excellent original character in her own right. Overall, the design team blew me away with their conception of Khazad-dum. The ferns hanging off the side of the cliff inside the entrance illogically moved me to tears, and the dwarven ingenuity represented by the pulley-based elevator system felt very true to how I have always imagined dwarves. My only hope is that Celebrimbor and Narvi have some screentime. Elrond can't have everything.
Finally, like almost everyone, I enjoyed the Harfoots. [5] While I have heard a lot of commentary about how âhobbits werenât supposed to be involved in the major events of the Second Age!!â, I also think itâs worth reminding the world that (a) hobbit-like folk were living in the Vales of Anduin by the Third Age, and it would be absolutely bonkers to think they never interacted with or minorly influenced characters who do have a âdocumentedâ role if they had been out and about earlier; (b) almost everything Tolkien wrote about history is written âwithinâ his Secondary World, i.e., by one of the characters he imagined kept historical records and, thus, there is likely inherent narrative bias to what we do âknowâ about the Second Age; and (c) wood-elves were mostly only mentioned in the context of the Second Age in relation to Sindarin and Noldorin migration and expansion, but no one is complaining about Arondir. (Okay, they are, but theyâre complaining about him for racist reasons, not simply because wood-elves exist in this telling.)
Oh, and the music! I am not the right person to talk about the music, but thatâcombined with the gorgeous design and settingâwill keep me coming back for the rest of the season, regardless of what happens.
Nandorin-Silvan Elves, Intra-elven Relations, and the Related Significance of Omitted Elven History
Now, on to the critique. Let me start by saying: this section is heavily influenced by the utter bewilderment I have felt over the past year trying to understand how a show can be set in the Second Age without rights to most of the material of the First. What is the point in making a show when you cannot actually adapt the material realistically? While that is not the point of this section, it is hard for me to disentangle, so it feels only right to mention it.
Since I started writing this review, I came across @itariilles own excellent review on elves in the first two episodes of RoP. I recommend reading her piece as I will not be rehashing the points she made here regarding Galadrielâs character and motivation(s) or the complexity of casting an actor of color as a Silvan elf, with particular attention to her sections âGaladrielâs Motivationsâ and âFantasy Racism Against Elves.â To understand more where some of the frustrations expressed by Itariiles, myself, and many other fans come from, I would further, and selfishly perhaps, recommend reading the section Consequences of Resettlement: The âSindarizingâ of the âWild,â âLesserâ Elves by the Sindarin Princes and Noldorin Exiles of Beleriand in my linked paper here. Because I cannot write this section without at least mentioning elven ethnicity and lore, I do suggest refreshing your brain if you are not familiar with elven cultural groups across the Ages; and then proceed while keeping in mind the following: âWithin Tolkienâs elven worlds, these [elven] hierarchies are governed by (a) proximity to Aman and the Valar and, within Middle-earth, (b) proximity to the Noldor, with the Nandor and then the Avari being most distant. Characteristic phrases used to describe the Silvan and Avari are âlesser Elves,â âlesser Silvan race,â âwild,â âsavage,â ârude and rustic,â and âmore dangerous, less wiseââ (...me, 2021). [6]
Itariiilesâ does an excellent job outlining why it is odd Silvan elves would be reporting to the High King Gil-galad at this point in Second Age history. She additionally reviews the complexity of the showrunners placing the Tirharad (the human people we see in the Southlands parts of the episode) under Elven dominion. She notes, âA line said by a Silvan soldier reasoning their station over the men of Tirharad as âdescendants of those who served Morgoth' is uncomfortable as it plays into the established trope of South/Eastern men being inherently evil which links into Orientalist ideas of the East being perceived as fundamentally Other.â This is something I want to take a step further. In this adapted world in which, presumably, Silvan elves answer to the âhigherâ Noldor, what does it mean that the Silvan folk are being used to carry out what essentially amounts to Noldorin occupation of Mannish lands?
I have a few issues with this, and it has taken me a while to really pinpoint why, and Iâm still not quite there on expressing it and do not expect to be until I have more data from the show. Â Still, the first thing that bothers me about this setup is thatâin this adapted universeâthe Silvans reporting to the High Noldor creates unique issues across multiple contexts:
If we are fans of the traditional legendarium, this choice in the adaptation puts the Silvan in an even more more subservient context that Tolkienâs explicit and implicit language originally placed them (which is highly impressive); and
It tells us that within the adapted universe, the Noldor use another ethnic groupâone traditionally ranked less highlyâto carry out suppression and oversight of a third ethnic group.
This approach has not been uncommon in colonial and neocolonial history and, certainly, utilizing another group of people to establish and maintain strategic governmental and military control is part and parcel of imperialism. While all elvesâin the ethnic hierarchy of Middle-earthâmay be ranked higher than Men (due to being valued as firstborn by Illuvatar) and, thus, this oppression is not exactly lateral, it is still using one group of people to manage another, while the person in charge essentially handles war, decisions, and paperwork elsewhere.
Of course, all of this whining and speculating could be blown out of the water by something I could never have expected in this RoP universe as the episodes progressâin that they go âon recordâ changing the history of these ethnic and racial groups, or they reveal that the Noldor are already integrated with the Silvan at this pointâbut my hopes are not high. Itariiilesâ pointâone also made by a speaker on the RoP reaction panel at Oxonmoot, as well (@fernstrikeâ)âstill is not insignificant: What does it mean that the only actor of color cast as an elf thus far is a Silvan reporting to the Noldor, while all the Noldor we have seenâin the first two episodes, at leastâare white? We cannot escape the potential impact, as choices in the Secondary World/in-universe are inherently consumed by those of us in this Primary World we share.
My next issue with the flattening of elven history and culture centers on the Sindar, part of the Teleri group to which the Silvan also belong. As @skyeventide asked in her reaction thread (featuring my highly articulate response):
So then: where are the Sindar at this time? And the âSindarin Princes of the Silvan Elvesâ? Given the fact that Durin III is alive and Eregion and Celebrimbor arenât wasted or strung up, respectively, we can guess a timeframe of a few hundred years for the show, during which the Sindar are certainly out and about, depending on the draft/source (Celeborn in Lindon, Oropher & co. already settling with the Silvan across the mountains). And it is not as if the Sindar are forbidden by copyright to be discussed: Though Doriath is destroyed by the Second Age, it and Thingol are still discussed in the LotR appendices; there is a paragraph exclusively dedicated to how the Sindar migrated and integrated with Silvans in the woods during the time Gil-galad is High King [7]; and Nimrodelâs story and associated Sindarin and Noldorin woes are mentioned in LotR. Certainly it is not unreasonable that this is a storyline that will emerge throughout the season (or the next four, which could ostensibly cover thousands of years), but considering the placement of Silvans beneath Gil-galad at this time, I am wary. Should Thranduil emerge (as Oropher is not mentioned in LotR or the Appendices)âor Amroth or Celeborn (who all also have messy histories across various versions and drafts)âwhat shall happen? Will the Sindar be placed under the High Kingâs jurisdiction? Will the Silvans who are not already, apparently, ruled by Gil-galad be lumped in with them, under the High elves, as well?[8]
I can only hope there will be some thoughtful delineation of groups and meaningful and realistic group dynamics based on Elven history andâgaspâeven informed by modern political science, social psychology, sociology, or migration studies. Even if the âwhyâ is not immediately apparent in the show, interested viewers can easily look up the backstory and, thus, the show avoids unintentionally rewriting cultural histories (which, real history or not, is tiresome), a constant risk in stories with colonial and neocolonial settings/actors. Ultimately, my biggest concern as a person who thinks way too much about Elven ethnic hierarchy and social stratification is that instead of using the actual history of elven migration, conflict, and the long-lasting effects of the Kinslayings to explain the creation of differing elven realms, the very same effect will be attempted in another manner, i.e., by pinning a split from the Noldor as a personal flaw or choice of some yet unknown Telerin leader, or by having Silvans rebel against Gil-galadâs leadership and thereafter align themselves with certain Noldorin-type leaders (e.g., Galadriel and Celeborn) or Sindarin leaders with skeptical attitudes toward all things High Elven (e.g., Oropher Thranduil).[9] I can see these approaches making narrative sense based on some things that have already been set up in the first two episodes. However, I am still giving myself permission to be skeptical about it and to also just⊠not particularly like it.
Now, of course, all of this relates to that omitted Elven history, one genre of omission more glaring than all the rest: the flight of the Noldor, the Oath of FĂ«anor, and the three Kinslayings that followed. The inability of showrunners to incorporate, or even really reference, these events surrounding the Silmarils is disappointing. War is complicated and, to most sides, generally unjust for one reason or another, which is certainly something viewers can relate to. Furthermore, flawed characters are interesting, even if they are flawed because they participated in or failed to actively oppose actions most would now consider unthinkable. Still, the political intrigue and narrative arcs that facilitate this kind of in-universe justification of atrocity in fictional worlds has long been a compelling storyline in myth, religion, and fiction alike. Even Galadrielâs character could be complicated by acknowledging this complex history, orâgiven copyright limitationsâat least creating some alternative scenario that evokes the same historical complexity that the entirety of the First Age embodies, pitting elf against elf against man against elf, all of which barely pales in comparison to The War of Wrath. Galadrielâs behavior in âThe Noldor in Beleriandâ chapter of the Silmarillion during her conversation with Melian of Doriath (about why the Noldor returned from Aman) lays the groundwork for the type of high political drama this show could evoke, regardless of copyright.[10]
Ultimately, while Tolkien is well-loved by many due to his skillâintentional or notâin creating morally ambiguous characters, perhaps the showrunners are not prepared to address such complexity on screen. As those of us in the Silmarillion fandom know, discussing the humanâelf?ârights violations at AlqualondĂ«, Doriath, and Sirion can be tetchy [11], and inviting such tension to a show in the midst of the political uproar surrounding its very existence may have been too much to expect. However, because so much of elven history and hierarchy is situated within splits and migrations directly associated with the story of the Silmarils, it does feel that we are being cheatedâespecially fans of the Telerin Sindar and Silvanâof the complex story the elves deserve.
This Section Was Supposed to Be: Gender in the Primary and Secondary Worlds of the Original Legendarium and the RoP Adaptation
In this section, I meant to define Primary and Secondary Worlds according to Tolkienâs definitions in âOn Fairy Stories,â weave a pretty little tale, and then right-left-punch you with the historical, modern, and in-universe implications of the weird decisions the show made about women.[12] While there is a lot to be said about the racial and ethnic implications of costuming decisions, this post was going to specifically focus on gender, clothing, and gender-related roles in those first two episodes.[13] I was also going to discuss gender-related costuming and cultural-cult-religious implications in some of the other imagery here. (Rest assured, I am certain I am not the first person who did a double-take at that boat scene.) HoweverâŠ.  I am tired, I have a project for my research supervisor due tomorrow, and I am not going to let something I love (Tolkien) give me a mental breakdown once again, so I am abandoning that original plan. Instead of a well-crafted section, allow me to ramble at you about gender and, canonically, why I think the elven women in Lindon are ridiculously designed.
Now.
Tolkien and his legendarium were never the height of gender equality and progressivism, but they were also not exactly the worst, if we ignore the fact that he didnât particularly care for short-haired women wearing pants (Letters) and also that he thoughtâat least at one pointâthat elven woman would be pregnant (and thus secluded from larger society??) for 100 years (Nature of Middle-earth, 2021). (Yeah, thatâs absolutely bonkers, I know.) However, the text most fans have relied on for yearsâand which is not directly contradicted in NoMEâis âLaws and Customs of the Eldar,â or LaCE in fan parlance.[14] LaCE fairly explicitly describes the similarities and differences between elven men (neri in Quenya) and women (nissi in Quenya), as reported by an unknown Mannish loremaster. Tolkien (said loremaster) writes:
In all such things, not concerned with the bringing forth of children, the neri and nissi (that is, the men and women) of the Eldar are equal - unless it be in this (as they themselves say) that for the nissi the making of things new is for the most part shown in the forming of their children, so that invention and change is otherwise mostly brought about by the neri. There are, however, no matters which among the Eldar only a ner can think or do, or others with which only a nis is concerned. There are indeed some differences between the natural inclinations of neri and nissi, and other differences that have been established by custom (varying in place and in time, and in the several races of the Eldar). For instance, the arts of healing, and all that touches on the care of the body, are among all the Eldar most practised by the nissi; whereas it was the elven-men who bore arms at need. And the Eldar deemed that the dealing of death, even when lawful or under necessity, diminished the power of healing, and that the virtue of the nissi in this matter was due rather to their abstaining from hunting or war than to any special power that went with their womanhood. Indeed in dire straits or desperate defence, the nissi fought valiantly, and there was less difference in strength and speed between elven-men and elven-women that had not borne child than is seen among mortals. On the other hand many elven-men were great healers and skilled in the lore of living bodies, though such men abstained from hunting, and went not to war until the last need.
As for other matters, we may speak of the customs of the Noldor (of whom most is known in Middle-earth). Among the Noldor it may be seen that the making of bread is done mostly by women; and the making of the lembas is by ancient law reserved to them. Yet the cooking and preparing of other food is generally a task and pleasure of men. The nissi are more often skilled in the tending of fields and gardens, in playing upon instruments of music, and in the spinning, weaving, fashioning, and adornment of all threads and cloths; and in matters of lore they love most the histories of the Eldar and of the houses of the Noldor; and all matters of kinship and descent are held by them in memory. But the neri are more skilled as smiths and wrights, as carvers of wood and stone, and as jewellers. It is they for the most part who compose musics and make the instruments, or devise new ones; they are the chief poets and students of languages and inventors of words. Many of them delight in forestry and in the lore of the wild, seeking the friendship of all things that grow or live there in freedom. But all these things, and other matters of labour and play, or of deeper knowledge concerning being and the life of the World, may at different times be pursued by any among the Noldor, be they neri or nissi.
(Morgothâs Ring, HoME 10).
So then, why does elven gender in RoP weird me out a little bit, Galadrielâand her complicated characterizationânotwithstanding? (And, yes, it was necessary to include the full quote to only point out how much more ridiculous what follows is.)
This:
Why are all the attendants female? And why are they all dressed like this in the background? Where are the rest of the women? Are they locked away, pregnant? Did we take NoME that seriously?
Bizarre.
Conclusion
In the big scheme of things, I suppose I was mostly pleasantly surprised. It was entertaining to watch for the scenery, settings, and music; and I was moved to tears by some of the beautiful cinematographyâIâll continue to be giddy about the scenery and design whether I want to be or not. I also think it is very important that BIPOC were included in casting. However, I am not going to hold out on feeling the story of the Second Age was done justice. I willâforever and alwaysâalways be hung up on Silvan representation.[15] But, unless something truly egregious happens, for now I am okay with a mediocre and mildly frustrating storyline.
FOOTNOTES
I have still not recovered, so this will be a long 1.5 months.
Not to mention the boats she will one day have in her own realm, in Lothlorien.
As Sky Eventide notes in her reaction thread on Twitter, the scene even includes one red-headed child, which may be harkening to Maedhros, though Amrod or Amras might be more realistic given I would expect Maedhros to be the ringleader of the band, were the red-headed child meant to be him.
See Itariillesâ piece and my own linked paper for more on this. It is confusing to think about in the show context because while Galadriel thinks the kinslaying are unfortunate and does not take an oath like Feanor and colleagues, she doesnât think her Feanorian cousins are crazy for wanting to return to Middle-earth, though her motivations to return are different (yay colonialism). Again, see links.
Though an Irish Times article provides an interesting critique that, as an American many generations removed from Ireland, I would never have noticed. As someone who often complains about fandomâs jokes about wood-elf and Silvan culture/language as a stand-in for less cultured âhickâ accents and cultures, the linked article really moved me and put these European-based English choices into perspective for me. And it also spoke to the odd feeling I got as I noticed that while watching, once again, an adaptation used different accents that are cultural- and class-marked in the âreal worldâ to sort of delineate place in Middle-earth.
And yes, some of this quoted language comes from material the show has explicit access to.
Keep in mind, this is only ONE version of Sindarin migration. Tolkien wrote more on this across his lifetime that is not reflected in the Appendices as published. See my linked paper for more on this.
Dare I even ask if the show plans to somehow reference a group of elves like the Avari, given the showrunnersâ interest in the Southlands thus far? I donât know if my poor heart could handle the stressâŠ
Which conveniently echoes Oropherâs choice during part of the Last Alliance that left his people wildly diminishedâŠ
A political intrigue which we have seen snippets of, perhaps, with Elrondâs characterâitâs just not a tension and positioning I can, yet, easily follow. I donât âgetâ this world well enough yet to do so.
I, too, have been guilty of this, as someone who spends way too much time thinking about the Sindar. While I am still very much opposed to atrocity crimes in our real worldâobviously, itâs literally my jobâI have come to see the issues of the Silmarils as more complex than I once did, taking into account cultural and political motivations for character behavior. (Though that has not stopped me from writing Sindarin accounts of the Kinslaying at Sirion to balance things out, âvictors write historyâ and all that.) I have some patient acquaintances to thank for helping me develop a more complex view on Feanorian behavior in the First Age.
Do not judge me. I know nothing about boxing terms and I made that up.
Again, please read Itariilesâ piece (specifically the section âNeoclassical Aesthetic Given to the Noldor and its Unfortunate Implicationsâ).
And, if you want to get really particular, one of the two drafts of LaCE is titled: âOF THE LAWS AND CUSTOMS AMONG THE ELDAR PERTAINING TO MARRIAGE AND OTHER MATTERS RELATED THERETO: TOGETHER WITH THE STATUTE OF FINWE AND MIRIEL AND THE DEBATE OF THE VALAR AT ITS MAKINGâ...
And yes. I have lived through PJâs TH. I will survive it again.
Acknowledgements: Thanks to my acquaintances from the Silmarillion Writersâ Guild/Dreamwidth for encouraging me to finish writing this after I became discouraged. And thanks to my new acquaintances at Alliance of Arda for being interested in what I have to say. I would have just stewed in my anxiety without outside prompting to write this silly little thing that I actually really wanted to write.
