Flash warning and ig spoilers for Jupiter men? It’s really good u should read it on webtoon
The first edit I ever made was of Jackie and I’ve improved so much that looking at the old one physically pains me. The next edit I did was of Jackie and Arrio and I misheard the lyrics so I wrote down the wrong text but oh well. Anyways, I love these two so much and honestly, idc if they stay friends or become romantic partners. All that matters to me is their bond, regardless of its romance or friendship. Their dynamic is everything to me.

@chrumblr-whumblr day 11: on the run
wc: 1217 | warnings: sprained ankle, being chased and shot at by battle droids, mention of burn injury | characters: Peter Parker (pov), Arrio Mckay, Dick Grayson
the boys get isekai'd into the clone wars tee hee chrumblr rp girlies <3 @ablatheringblatherskite @youjustfeelthemforever @choasuqeen
“You’re gonna have to run faster than that, man,” Peter panted, and Arrio glared back at him. “I am running at the same speed you are!” “Both of you, save your breath.” Dick’s reproof came through gritted teeth; they looked back in unison to see him trip and almost fall, but then he caught himself and kept going, onward through the jungle at a limping run. Peter and Arrio swapped a glance, shut up and kept running.
Moonlight glowed brighter through a hole in the trees ahead, and Peter expected to burst out into a clearing. But then his spider-sense flared, and he grabbed Arrio just in time to keep him from going over the cliff that suddenly loomed below them. “That was clo-” Unable to stop himself, Dick slammed into them, and for a moment they teetered at the edge, about to go over, before Dick grabbed his grapple gun, Peter shot a web to the nearest tree, and they pulled themselves away from the precipice. All three stumbled back towards the tree line, and Dick leaned against the trunk of one, grimacing.
“Are you okay?” “I’d be better if the others were here. And if my ankle was in perfect working condition,” he replied glumly, reaching down to rub it. Arrio growled in frustration. “I knew we shouldn’t have asked those things for directions. The one time I do stop to do that, and we get shot at and chased through the jungle.” “You knew? I was the one who said maybe we shouldn’t ask the evil looking robots if they knew which way our friends were!” “And I was the one who overrode you.” “Oh, please, like your vote alone is enough to override me.” “It was two to one! That’s what outvote means, Peter.” “Yeah, but-” “Boys.” Arrio and Peter swapped a glance, shut up and turned to see Dick frowning at them. “This isn’t helping.
“We’re stranded in a strange jungle with no one around for miles except for those robots. I get that you were right, Peter, but you were still outvoted. And Arrio, you weren’t the only one who voted against him. It was the majority opinion and we went with that, so” — he pinched the bridge of his nose with his other hand — “can we please stop arguing now and get a move on before the robots catch up?”
Peter and Arrio looked from him to each other, then nodded.
“Yeah.” “Okay.” “Good.”
The word was barely out of his mouth before they heard the a modulated voice coming from behind them. “Freeze, Republic dogs!” The trio looked from each other to the lone robot and back.
Peter crossed his arms, tilting his head. “I have no idea what you’re talking about, but we’re not any of those things. Which we tried to tell you when we asked for directions-” The robot kept its gun trained on them as the leaves and branches rustled, and the others in its squad emerged from the trees.
“I don’t think they care, Peter.” Arrio’s posture was tense; he moved furtively in front of Dick, his ring starting to glow like the embers of a fire. “I got that much.” He was about to start backing away from the robots when his spider-sense went off again, and he pushed Arrio to the ground. “DUCK!” “Open fire!” The robots started to shoot red lasers at them, and Peter had to pivot midair to avoid all of the bolts, catching a glimpse of Dick twisting into a somersault. He lunged to the side as the onslaught continued, webbing up one of the robots and swinging it around to crash into the others. They went down in a clatter of metal, and Peter yelled, "STRIKE!"
Arrio's face popped into his view as the other boy pushed himself up off the ground. "Strike? Where?!" "Bowling. Not our friend," Peter explained tersely as he shoved him back down. "Stop shoving me!" "Then stop getting in the path of those lasers!" "Boys! Can we-" They both watched as Dick flipped again to avoid a crimson bolt, stumbling as he landed on his bad foot, and Peter felt the heat of one on his face when it zipped by. His gaze followed it like the world had turned to slow-mo, and his stomach gripped in a tight vice as he watched it thud into Dick's shoulder, and the vigilante went down.
"Dick!" Their voices rose in a single cry, and Arrio and Peter shared a look and nod, then turned to glare at the robots. Arrio's fire shed a warm yellow-white glow on the scene as he threw fireballs at their enemies and Peter flung them at each other and the ground. Some of the robots wailed as they flew off the cliff, voices fading the further they disappeared into shadow.
Peter whirled to web two of them together, and his webs flew through Arrio's fire on the way, lighting up and binding the robots to the flames and each other. "Whoa. Not what I intended, but we'll take it." Arrio shrugged in agreement, and they dispatched the last few metal soldiers together. Only when they all lay sparking on the ground did the duo turn and rush to their friend's side. Peter supported Dick as he moved to sit up, hand pressed to his arm.
"Nnh. Great job, guys." "Are you okay?" He nodded, but the pained set of his jaw told a different story, as did the bloody, burnt flesh of his shoulder. "I'll be fine. We should get a move on, before any more of them show up." He stood and winced as he tested his bad ankle. “You shouldn’t walk on that,” Peter told him anxiously. “It might make the sprain worse.” “I don’t think we have much of a choice.” His face was grim, and he nodded towards the dim lights of a settlement in the distance. “If we can get there, we might be able to get some help that won’t shoot at us. I’ll survive,” he added at both Peter’s and Arrio’s worried looks. “It’s our best option,” Arrio admitted, and Peter nodded reluctantly. “Outvoted again.” He put a hand on his forehead dramatically.
Dick broke into a grin at that. “Well, maybe one of these days you’ll have a good idea.” “I had a good idea! Don’t talk to the evil robots.” “…A good idea that everyone shares.” His smile softened the blow of his words, and he limped towards the lights, the first few step out of thousands it would take to get there.
“Yeah, Peter. Maybe someday I’ll even agree with you.” Arrio smirked as he followed. “You wish you could agree with me.” “You wish you could get Dick to agree with you.” “You wish you had superstrength.” “You wish you could make fire butterflies.” “You wish you could shoot webs.” “You wish you could-” “Boys.” They looked forward to see Dick turn back to them with a playfully resigned sigh. “I’m glad you two are getting along better, but I really hope you’re not planning to do this the whole trip. Because we have a long way to go.”
Peter and Arrio looked at each other and grinned. “No promises,” they chimed in unison.

Arrio, pointing at Raoul and Christine: I've only had this French couple for a day and a half but if anything happened to them I'd kill everyone in this room and then myself.
Maddox: Can we not kill ourselves over the French couple, please? Raoul will cry even harder.

episode 27 came out yesterday! this one was action-packed! let’s get into it.
the mysterious character chasing arrio down the school hallway really showcased how the magic works in the dimension he comes from. it seems like to use a spell, he has to crush a glowing rock/totem to gain its power. is this true for all people where he comes from, or would someone who has the spellbook he’s after be able to use magic freely without the stones, and thus gain unlimited spells?
and since he referred to arrio as “magite” in a previous chapter and in this one noted his bright orange hair, i wonder if that means in his home dimension, the magites are more naturally able to use magic, while the other inhabitants imitate that magic with their stones.
i also cannot emphasize how cool the fire effects were drawn this episode. the mysterious character making whips and blades out of his flames was so well-done!
we see glimpses of this new dimensions language, and i wonder if someone we’ll see enough of it to decipher it, or even get a full alphabet. world-building a new language is never easy but it’s such a key detail to stories like this so i really appreciate seeing that extra care and attention to detail.
jackie really came in strong when she drop-kicked the adversary here! i feel like she’s adapted much more easily to watch-dog’s training than quintin because of her cheerleading background; she already has physical skills, she’s just honing it in a different way.
and of course the “wham!” moment of the episode, quintin revealing himself to arrio. this is something i thought would happen, since quin is impulsive and once he judged that he needed to do something drastic for arrio to trust him, he’d come clean and tell him the truth.
arrio still isn’t in the best place because everything seems to be falling apart around him, so i still wonder if this reveal will do more harm than good for him. he still might push the twins away and have some trust issues since they kept something this big from him. i also feel like jackie will be upset because quin was so insisting on not telling arrio…and then he’s the one that goes and reveals it? it might feel hypocritical to her. and of course nathan won’t be happy about it. i really hope this doesn’t (pardon the pun) backfire on quintin!

Okay so it's five am and i was laying down trying to sleep when it occurred to me that if Arrio is a Magite on his mom's side, then Jessie must be too. and im kinda losing it over this realization. aksjsaksjakajakakak i really hope they acknowledge this in canon. like, so much.
sorry, normally i would have put a lot more effort into this message, but im kinda tired. now im going to sleep. night lol
bestie hiii! im manifesting in your haouse and knocking you out :D <3<3<3!!!
hdsfjhfsfdhfd yeah!!!! i mean by heritage theyre both magites!! AK has never said much abt Jessie as far as im concerned so we´re pretty much in the dark on if she´s gonna get anything in an old old concept, the whole magite powers thing worked like a "battery" and would be passed down if i remember correctly, so with Arrio being the eldest he would´ve taken the powers, and Jessie wouldnt get anything, not sure if that´s stilll canon tho
i think the other option would be they both have the potential, but it needs a trigger of some kind, with the spellbook acting as arrio´s trigger, idk idk also srsly dw!!!! you could send the most incomprehensible keymash post and i´d be just as happy to recieve it, youre good lmaoo <3<3<3<3

ah sorry for neglecting the blog!!! the holidays kept me a lot busier than i thought they would. i’m back now though, and i’m three episodes behind in reviewing jupiter-men! so i’m going to put all of my thoughts on this one. think of it as a trilogy i guess? buckle up, because this will be a long one!
episode 24
so in this episode, we learn that “jessie” (who arrio referred to in a previous episode) is his little sister. and she’s adorable! arrio always felt like a “big brother” character to the twins so him having a little sibling of his own makes a lot of sense for him.
we also meet arrio’s dad who, in the middle of arrio’s “angsting,” gifts his son a journal from his mom as an early 16th birthday present. it seems like his mom left this for him before her death (or disappearance?), with the stipulation that he waits until 16 before receiving it. this is pretty common in the YA /coming-of-age genre, and it makes me wonder if there was more to arrio’s mom than meets the eye…
but we don’t get the answer to that yet, as arrio throws the gift under his bed before opening it.
arrio is understandably getting increasingly frustrated by the avalon twins flaking on him and not-so-subtly hiding something from him. of course we as an audience understand why jackie and quintin are doing so, but since arrio is in the dark, their sudden behavior changes are hurtful and worrying to him. arrio’s interaction with mr. khan (the school counselor) highlights his worry, as well as giving more insight into arrio’s past.
mr. khan is downright fearful of arrio, and there’s even mention of a past restraining order. it’s clear that arrio was (and i’m sure still is, in shades) a deeply troubled kid. seeing the reactions the adults at school have to him now, two years later, makes me wonder how supportive they were of him during the roughest part of his life. at least it seems like his dad had his back the whole time, though we still don’t have many concrete details of the things that happened back then.
checking on the twins, we see they are exhausted and their bodies are in pain after two weeks straight of training, without breaks. geez! these are two 14 year old kids. watch-dog’s training is intense.
nathan seems like a taskmaster when it comes to training the twins, and while i’m sure part of it is him wanting to rush the process to get his dad back, it also makes me wonder what kind of training jupiter-man may have put nathan through. is this kind of tireless training…NORMAL for nathan? is he putting them through grueling training because he’s single-minded in his goal and doesn’t care if it’s extremely difficult for them, or does he really not see anything wrong with pushing them so hard because he may have gone through the same? i wonder if when we eventually meet jupiter-man, the story will take a “never meet your heroes” direction and we learn he may have had some serious flaws behind the scenes.
it seems inevitable that the twins will experience serious burnout at some point. at the end of the day they are still kids, and they’re now neglecting their friends and family for their duty as superheroes. this is an enormous burden for them to carry, and i really hope they will be able to find a better balance and support than they have right now!
in the end, we see the mysterious glitches we saw in a previous episode expand into a portal, from which a mysterious new character emerges. they have fire powers and seem to be looking for something. this is so exciting! i’ve been looking forward to seeing beings from the other dimensions and getting more lore on these other worlds.
i really enjoy this kind of worldbuilding and crafting of different systems. i like that they never really feel repetitive as long as the author puts a distinct spin on them. for instance, in the separate webtoons “four leaf” and “lone,” witches play large roles. but their magic systems are totally different! the witches in four leaf gain magical strength based on the number of bells they collect with the type of abilities being determined by their exact number of bells, while the witches in lone use wands to channel different innate magics with specialties in different forms depending on the individual.
it’s that kind of variety i love about exploring different worlds and the people / creatures that inhabit them, which is why i can’t wait to see the various worlds and dimensions of jupiter-men!
episode 25
it’s arrio’s birthday! and he opens his mom’s gift!
it’s a blank journal with a mysterious cover. arrio reads the inscription, which refers to enchantment and speaking from your soul. this seems to clearly indicate that arrio’s mom was from another of these dimensions (of magic?! awesome), and probably the exact one that the mysterious character from the previous episode came from.
a ring falls out of the book, and when arrio puts it on (and subsequently can’t take it off), his eyes fill with fire for a moment. so arrio will gain access to powers at some point! i would love for him to join gusher, powerhouse, and watch-dog on their team, but i’m wondering if the mysterious person will manipulate arrio and turn him against the twins…i don’t want arrio to become a villain, but with all of this tension and misunderstandings, i think it’d be easy for him to become a pawn in a villain’s game.
(also, arrio’s snappy orange socks he always wears are presents he gets from his baby sister; such a cute detail!)
however, at school, arrio’s small friend group gives him a cupcake in celebration while the twins are nowhere to be seen. when they finally approach him late in the day, they blow off his request to hang out (again) and ask that he cover for them (so they can train without their mom asking questions). they completely forgot his birthday (they think it’s the next day because they’ve been so preoccupied with everything else).
arrio confronts them on their lies and demands to know what they’re busy with, as he’s afraid it could be a gang. things get heated between quin and arrio while jackie tries to mediate. arrio tells quin that he’s concerned because he’s like a brother to him, and quin snaps that they *aren’t*so he can stop worrying.
this was a really sad and well-written argument. arrio definitely has reasons to be upset and worried. quintin snapping was a bit shocking to see, because while he can be somewhat intense when expressing his emotions, we’ve never truly seen him this angry. and i think a lot of that is because of the stress of constantly training and lying. it’s taking a toll on him even if he doesn’t really want to admit it.
after the argument, watch-dog calls. jackie (rightfully) goes off on him, but he interrupts to say that this isn’t a drill, it’s a real attack.
i think this episode did a good job showing the conflict between the twins and arrio come to a head. they can’t just pretend everything is okay while leaving him in the dark, and i hope they’re all able to talk openly about what’s going on. before it may be too late…
episode 26
arrio is still hurt by quintin’s comment, then he’s confronted by rick chang (the bully we met wayyy back in eps. 1 and 2). rick is pushy with trying to get information to go after jackie while arrio asserts her autonomy (w friend arrio), so rick picks a fight, arrio fights back, bada-bing-bada-boom, arrio gets detention on his birthday. plus we get more clues to his backstory, like the fact that he was in a gang. now we know why he was so concerned about jackie and quintin getting pulled into a gang; he knows what it’s like and feared they’d go down the same path he did.
sidenote, we also learn that rick has some sway in the school due to who his mom is. the principal says that while isn’t innocent, he’ll “call it even” and let him go without punishment so long as he doesn’t get his mom involved. which, scummy as heck. maybe we will meet his mom someday and get some proper rick lore, but for now i’m perfectly content hating him haha.
the heroes meanwhile sense an anomaly, and it’s coming from…the school?!
the mysterious person enters the detention room arrio is in. while there, they mention that “the star guardian is losing his touch if we are both here,” which makes me wonder a bit about the purpose of the star guardian. this character doesn’t appear to be a starstruck monster, but a person from another dimension. are star guardians meant to keep ANY interdimensional beings from crossing over into other ones? even non-harmful ones? do they enforce this dimensional segregation at any costs?
because if that’s the case, that DOES NOT bode well for what could have happened to arrio’s mom. did she flee here from her dimension for some reason, and once she was discovered by the previous star guardian, jupiter-man, nathan’s dad, daejung mun, did he banish her back to her home dimension (or KILL her)? separating her from her HUSBAND AND CHILDREN? this is realllly making my theory of jupiter-man hiding some skeletons in his cape look a lot more likely if that’s the case!
the episode ends with the mysterious person chasing arrio down the halls in an attempt to get the spellbook. we know the heroes will show up to save him, but their appearances will be cloaked due to their costume technology. will the twins choose to share their identities and truth with arrio before their relationship spirals further out of control? i hope so.
these chapters were really enjoyable, and i liked learning more about arrio’s backstory. the clues of it were spread out and we still don’t have the full picture, which is more interesting that just info-dumping all of it at once. this way it’s like putting puzzle pieces together. though i have to admit that i missed jackie, quintin, and nathan these past few episodes, because even though arrio is great and i’ve been itching to know more about him, it left the rest of the cast out-of-focus and i just really missed seeing more of them. that’s not a criticism of the story, though, because i think it was a good choice so we’d feel what arrio was feeling, about them not being there for him and leaving him feeling isolated from them. so bravo, author!
i’ll be getting back in the swing of posting my reviews weekly, so i won’t have to deal with writing three at once again, lol.

ok u know what? sure, I'll share what my brain was doing
Spoilers for what I'll be talking about, read as far as you dare!
so there's this webcomic that I like, yeah? it's called Jupiter-Men. Teen superhero story with a saturday-morning cartoon feel to it. Been reading for almost a year now, would recommend.
Over the past few days the author (@/actionkiddy) has been posting artwork leading up to the season 1 finale that drops next week, and strangely, the countdown started on day 10. This gave me a pause, bc wouldn't a 14-day or 7-day countdown make more sense? And why are the protagonists sitting on an L-looking shape?
The days come, and so do the artworks.
9 days left. Background looks like a blob of color. Maybe what I thought I saw was nothing?
8 days left. Still looks like a blob of color, I was probably tripping out at first. But hey, the panels that make up the backgrounds are summarizing the comic's arcs up until now, that's pretty cool!
7 days left. Definitely just the panels being shaped into cool shapes (I also like this art a lot)
6 days le- NEVERMIND THERE'S SOMETHING BEING SPELLED HERE.
I go back and review the shapes again, and sure enough:
Tumblr media
L-U-P-I-T
Ten days. Ten letters. What could it spell? Is it an anagram? There's no "L" in "Jupiter-Men" though......
wait.
The character on the 7-days-left artwork.... his name is Arrio McKay, and his late mom is from another dimension, called Magi. People from other dimensions are not allowed onto Earth - or "Prime" as the dimension is known as - under normal circumstances, and his mother is no exception.
But... she stayed. Mrs. McKay stayed on Prime for several years, at LEAST 11, because that's how old Arrio was when she died.
Now, crash course on a small bit of JM lore:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(both panels are from ch. 46, second image edited for relevant info)
In Jupiter-Men, when one from a foreign dimension crosses into Prime, they require an item called an anchor in order to stay on Prime, lest they get forced off by the laws of the multiverse and its' relation to Prime specifically. The average anchor can only hold its' bearer to Prime for a couple hours before it breaks, maybe a day or two from what little we've seen so far.
But a special anchor, made by Prime's protector, the Star Guardian? It can last for however long the Star Guardian wishes.
This means that L-U-P-I-T-a McKay was not only in contact with the Star Guardian, she got special permission from him to stay. This honor is usually only given to people with connections to the highest levels of government in a particular dimension, and the trips are usually (?) short. It seems to be implied that any anchors created by anyone other than the Star Guardian are the ones in the black market, so Arrio's mother being allowed to stay on Prime for a whole 11 YEARS AND COUNTING is a VERY BIG DEAL.
But she's dead. Arrio is haunted by her death; poor boy has nightmares on the subject even 5 years later.
And that's just it. That was 5 years ago at the time of the comic's events, but she started haunting the narrative Arrio's part of the narrative after he learned of his heritage. Arrio is technically half banished from Prime, so the fact that he can stay on Prime seemingly without an anchor is... interesting to say the least.
Tumblr media
Perhaps Lupita will start haunting more than just a tiny part of the narrative now.
Of course, there's also the possibility that her grave is empty, since uh.
Tumblr media
That explanation is very dodgy.
There's more suspicious things in Arrio's story in the actual comic of course, but I have neither the time nor the energy to go over them right now. (The comment section did most of the heavy lifting for those other points anyways, so just. Read the comic ;))

obscure fandom thing that has since burned me out in the hour I posted that
