good evening I just found out that about 2 years ago NRK started airing a Sesame Street spinoff from 2008 and I'm baffled. they refrained from purchasing the rights to air Any Sesame Workshop Production for 21 years after the mess that was the Norwegian Sesame Street co-production, why did they decide to pick up an ancient Bert and Ernie spinoff out of the blue? I'm so confused.

Video: I Was Interviewed By The Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (and it was insane)
About how I was interviewed by the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation NRK about lost media. In particular, the Norwegian version of Sesame Street, Sesam Stasjon. But also, other television shows and video games that are no longer available. Here’s the story of how and why that happened, plus some parts that were cut from the final article, which I’ve linked…

watching a video on sesam stasjon, but within the first 2 min the guy says that it had to be different from sesame street because norway is big and if it took place on one street, kids wouldn't see it as their town, unlike american kids, who could recognize their own street in sesame street.
ignoring for the moment that the us is much larger than norway, it's funny to say this about sesame street, which is one of the few prominent us kids' shows to not take place in a generic suburb. sesame street is very specifically in manhattan. most of the country doesn't look like that at all.
it feels more accurate to say that street aims for underprivileged urban kids while stasjon wanted to reach more remote, rural kids, which makes sense given how the populations of each country are distributed and how their children's media typically approaches that.
more importantly, my streak of watching youtube "video essays" by people i'm unfamiliar with and hearing something in the first 3 minutes that makes me question the reliability of the information and analyses in rest of the video... continues...

We don’t have a bird in the Norwegian version, which is called Sesam Stasjon (Sesame Station)
Making friends with people from other countries is so crazy. I sent my group chat a Big Bird gif.
Tumblr media
And this one girl says, “why isn’t he blue?”
I’m like, the fuck you mean??
So today I learned that in the Dutch version of Sesame Street, they do, in fact, have a blue Big Bird.
Tumblr media
I was baffled by this so I went on Muppets Wiki and guess what.
In Mexico, Big Bird is green and his name is Abelardo.
Tumblr media
Turkish Big Bird (aka Minik Kus) is apparently fucking orange.

This looks like a fuckin alternate universe or smth. I can’t.

Muppet Fact #684
Geir Børresen, the performer of Max Mekker on Sesam Stasjon, the Norwegian Sesame Street co-production, was thought to be too tall for the puppet to work. So, to fit in the full body puppet, Børresen would perform while bending his knees, shortening him about 50 centimeters.

I was today years old when I learned the Norwegian co-production of Sesame Street has been in a Copyright Prison of the PBS’ making since 2004 and the majority of the episodes produced are essentially lost media. that would explain why a childrens’ show that had such a big impact on Norwegian pop culture (and my young, developing brain) in the 90′s just completely faded into obscurity in the early 2000′s. also I can’t help but wonder if there’s some correlation between this and why No American Muppet Media has been released in Norway since.

The Norwegian Sesame Street
The Norwegian Sesame Street
On November 10th 1969, the children’s series Sesame Street premiered on PBS in the United States. It became incredibly popular, and soon it’s influence started to reach beyond America’s borders. Over the years a large number of international co-productions of Sesame Street was produced. This article will focus on just one such co-production, the Norwegian Sesam Stasjon. The Conception of Sesam…

The Norwegian version, Sesam Stasjon (sesame station)! I was surprised too, when I find out Sesame Street was a thing.

Ever since I caught the German Sesame Street while on holiday as a kid, I’ve had this strange fascination with foreign versions of the show.

Today I am drawing myself taking my Max Mekker plush for a walk while the two of us were buckets on our heads. For those who are not aware, Max Mekker is a character for Sesam Stasjon which was a spin of-of Seasam street in Norway, many of the characters from the American version where also in it. I loved this character as a kid, and kids are kids so my parents found me walking him around the house, apparently, I used to wear buckets on my head a lot. So you know great times — Go to my YouTube to see a time lapse of me drawing it 😊👍 - - - #childhoodweek2018 #childhoodweek #ilustration #childrenillustration #instagramart #art #madsjohanogaard #childhood #child #digitalart #2018 #day3 #dailyart #instagramartist #sketchbook #doodle #ilustrator #characterdesign #artcollective #challange #kidliart #best_of_illustrations #maxmekker #bucket #nostalgia #sesamestreet #sesamstasjon #arts #plush #spade
