It is incredibly difficult to hear so many people in the environmental movement continually lionise trains as the answer to all transport needs.
Being a full time mobility aid user with chronic fatigue and sensory overload makes use of public transport nightmarish.
If *real* efforts were made to make every train and every station fully wheelchair-accessible, *without* having to rely on unreliable or downright abusive station staff to put ramps up and, down, it would be a fantastic *start*. On good days, I *might* be able to use it for certain kinds of journeys.
However, it still wouldn’t solve the issues with sensory overload, or the problems getting to train stations from my home due to severe chronic pain and chronic fatigue.
If overdo it when I’m out, I *crash*. I cannot expend all my resources getting places. I then cannot do anything when I am there, and am unable to get home safely.
This is not that uncommon a problem. My issues are due to hEDS, POTS and autism, but they are incredibly common symptoms of Long COVID and ME/CFS resulting from Long COVID. So, unsurprisingly, folk with these needs are becoming increasingly common as Covid continues to rampage through the population. *Some of us need transportation we have control over*, and we need environmentally sustainable options to do this.
While expanding the public rail network, making it completely affordable (or, realistically, free) and making it fully accessible for wheelchair and other mobility aid users, children travelling alone from about age 8, elderly people with limited eyesight and hearing and parents travelling with infants would be an *incredible* start and massively increase usage of public transport, there are those of us who will always need at least part-time access to vehicles which can come to our homes and that *we* have control over, that are just as affordable as public transport, and the environmental movement needs to acknowledge this, plan for it, and stop treating it as selfishness, laziness and all the other “fun” terms disabled folk face constantly just for trying to live, especially outside our homes.
This is going to be even more the case if you want us to be able to work outside our homes and if you continue to be resistant to providing fully remote jobs that pay a living wage.

Defeat Project 2025
⚠️ 🚨The Dangers of Electing a GOP President in this Coming Election🚨⚠️
📘 👀Please read up on the Heritage Foundation’s Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise, also known as Project 2025.
🤼We must Defeat Project 2025 because it endangers our country’s democracy, social justice, freedom, human rights, and environment.
👉 The far-right plans to:
🔏Centralize the power to the executive branch, which eliminates the checks and balances of our democracy!
🥾Make federal employees at-will workers to ensure political loyal hires
👊 We need to fight to protect human rights because the far-right plans to eliminate:
❌Federal protections for LGBTQ+ Rights
❌Efforts that address gender equality and continue to restrict reproductive rights
❌Efforts that address racial inequality and diversity, equity and inclusion
🌎The plan will also roll back #ClimateChange mitigations🌎
✊ We need to #StandTogether in solidarity to push back against abuse of power and protect the democratic process✊🥺 Please be informed about the implications of voting for Trump this upcoming election🗳️ 🚫 No one party or person should have that much power or control🚫
🖲️Click here for more information: Read Project 2025, Media Matters Article on the Project, TIME’s Article on Project 2025, NECC Observer on the Dangers of the Project

The Infinite Echo
Perceiving Divinity in All, as The AllIn our quest for understanding the divine, we often find ourselves tangled in the web of human-conceived definitions and limitations. The notion of God, as vast and boundless as the universe itself, cannot be confined within the walls of traditional perceptions. My journey into this realization has reshaped my understanding of divinity, stretching beyond any…

Lululemon
Worker Wage - ★★☆☆☆
Based on the available information, we have found that Lululemon salaries in the US range from $8-$24.15, which is 9% below the national average. While Lululemon does not publish information on the wages of garment workers, outside sources state that the factory workers, who produce Lululemon’s garments, claim to be paid $110 a month in Bangladesh.
Working Conditions - ★☆☆☆☆
Their clothing is produced in Canada, the US, Peru, China, Bangladesh, Indonesia, India, Israel, Taiwan, South Korea, Malaysia, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Switzerland. Lululemon’s outsourced labor has raised questions in the past as to the treatment of the garment workers. In an investigation conducted by The Guardian, the workers claim to have been physically assaulted, verbally abused, and forced to work overtime, while making significantly less than the living wage.
Sustainable Materials - ★★☆☆☆
Lululemon says they aim to source more sustainable raw materials and fibers including recycled and renewable and recycled polyester and nylon. They aim to achieve at least 75% sustainable materials by 2025. Currently, they use low quantities of cotton and recycled materials. According to changingmarkets.org, Lululemon uses 23,390 tonnes of synthetics and 62% synthetic fibers in the production of their garments.
Environmental Impact - ★★★☆☆
On Lululemon’s website, they stress the company's aim towards reducing their carbon footprint by “eliminating waste and closed-loop innovation, making progress toward clean water and better chemistry”. Their website also stresses their goals such as reducing 60% of emissions in all owned and operated facilities and across their global supply chain. They intend to progress toward their goal by sourcing renewable energy, partnering with their manufacturers, and sourcing more raw sustainable materials. They have also joined THE CLIMATE GROUP’S RE100, signed the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. There is no evidence of Lululemon reducing their carbon emissions during the logistics stage of exportation.
Social Impact - ★★★☆☆
In 2022, Lululemon announced they would be donating $75.3 million to the BC Parks Foundation to support environmental preservation and habitat conservation efforts in British Columbia.
Inclusivity - ★★☆☆☆
Sizes at Lululemon range from XS-XXL, and model diversity does not reflect diverse sizing. Prices tend to be on the higher end.

Climate change affects everyone but in vastly unequal ways. To address this and drive real, sustainable change, businesses must ensure their sustainability strategies do not exacerbate existing inequalities even further.
The introduction of double materiality is set to change this and is driving a monumental shift in the way businesses consider impacts and rightsholders. Double materiality requires organisations to engage with two types of stakeholder: users of information and affected stakeholders, or ‘rightsholders,’ who are or could be affected by the organisation’s activities. To support this shift, companies must assess the significance of an impact according to its severity and likelihood. This methodology draws on established human rights impact-assessment methodologies with an emphasis on the rightsholder.

Lemelson-MIT awards 2024-25 InvenTeam grants to eight high school teams
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Lemelson-MIT Program has announced the 2024-25 InvenTeams — eight teams of high school students, teachers, and mentors from across the country. Each team will each receive $7,500 in grant funding and year-long support to build a technological invention to solve a problem of their own choosing. The students’ inventions are inspired by real-world problems they identified in their local communities.
The InvenTeams were selected by a respected panel consisting of university professors, inventors, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and college students. Some panel members were former InvenTeam members now working in industry. The InvenTeams are focusing on problems facing their local communities, with a goal that their inventions will have a positive impact on beneficiaries and, ultimately, improve the lives of others beyond their communities.
This year’s teams are:
Battle Creek Area Mathematics and Science Center (Battle Creek, Michigan)
Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (Cambridge, Massachusetts)
Colegio Rosa-Bell (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico)
Edison High School (Edison, New Jersey)
Massachusetts Academy of Math and Science (Worcester, Massachusetts)
Nitro High School (Nitro, West Virginia)
Southcrest Christian School (Lubbock, Texas)
Ygnacio Valley High School (Concord, California)
InvenTeams are comprised of students, teachers and community mentors who pursue year-long invention projects involving creative thinking, problem-solving, and hands-on learning in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The InvenTeams’ prototype inventions will be showcased at a technical review within their home communities in February 2025, and then again as a final prototype at EurekaFest — an invention celebration taking place June 9-11, 2025, at MIT.
“The InvenTeams are focusing on solving problems that impact their local communities,” says Leigh Estabrooks, Lemelson-MIT’s invention education officer. “Teams are focusing their technological solutions — their inventions — on health and well-being, environmental issues, and safety concerns. These high school students are not just problem-solvers of tomorrow, they are problem solvers today helping to make our world healthier, greener, and safer.”
This year the Lemelson-MIT Program and the InvenTeams grants initiative celebrate a series of firsts in the annual high school invention grant program. For the first time, a team from their home city of Cambridge, Massachusetts, will participate, representing the Cambridge community’s innovative spirit on a national stage. Additionally, the program welcomes the first team from Puerto Rico, highlighting the expanding reach of the InvenTeams grants initiative. The pioneering teams exemplify the diversity and creativity that fuel invention.
The InvenTeams grants initiative, now in its 21st year, has enabled 18 teams of high school students to be awarded U.S. patents for their projects. Intellectual property education is combined with invention education offerings as part of the Lemelson-MIT Program’s deliberate efforts to remedy historic inequities among those who develop inventions, protect their intellectual property, and commercialize their creations. The ongoing efforts empower students from all backgrounds, equipping them with invaluable problem-solving skills that will serve them well throughout their academic journeys, professional pursuits, and personal lives. The program has worked with over 4,000 students across 304 different InvenTeams nationwide and has included:
partnering with intellectual property (IP) law firms to provide pro bono legal support;
collaborating with industry-leading companies that provide technical guidance and mentoring;
providing professional development for teachers on invention education and IP;
assisting teams with identifying resources within their communities’ innovation ecosystems to support ongoing invention efforts; and
publishing case studies and research to inform the work of invention educators and policy makers to build support for engaging students in efforts to invent solutions to real-world problems, thus fueling the innovation economy in the U.S.
The Lemelson-MIT Program is a national leader in efforts to prepare the next generation of inventors and entrepreneurs, focusing on the expansion of opportunities for people to learn ways inventors find and solve problems that matter to improve lives. A commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion aims to remedy historic inequities among those who develop inventions, protect their intellectual property, and commercialize their creations.
Jerome H. Lemelson, one of U.S. history’s most prolific inventors, and his wife Dorothy founded the Lemelson-MIT Program in 1994. It is funded by The Lemelson Foundation and administered by the MIT School of Engineering. For more information, contact Leigh Estabrooks.
