A new study documenting the scourge of plastic waste around the world has found that more than half of branded plastic pollution can be traced back to just 56 companies.
More than 20 per cent of all branded pollution is linked to four brands: The Coca-Cola Company (11 per cent), PepsiCo (five per cent), Nestlé (three per cent) and Danone (two per cent).

I think a massive facet of Tim's secret identity should be that everyone in Gotham knows that if Tim had Bat Skills, he would simply be a benevolent supervillain instead. A feral little gremlin who would take out the kneecaps of every boomer trying to embezzle charity funds. Like, this is the bitch that's constantly ready to fight God in a Denny's parking lot. He would be out there committing murder every time someone tried to rezone Gotham's voting districts again; he'd just show up in their dark living room with anime eyeshine like, "oh? And you thought you could get away with this? 🔪"

"Socialism, like the ancient ideas from which it springs, confuses the distinction between government and society. As a result of this, every time we object to a thing being done by government, the socialists conclude that we object to its being done at all.

Say what you want about SNW but I REALLY loved the way in the episode where Pike sees the future where Jim is not the captain of the Enterprise lil glimpses we get of him having just insane professional chemistry with Spock.
Like across realities and in different universes, Kirk sees Spock across the room through a video transmission and calls him impressive. It's like a jolt, bullseye, and laser focus towards eachother before they even meet in person.
They instantly agree and see eachother's point of view. There's SPARKS. I genuinely felt watching this as if they were the only people in the room (and I feel like the camera work in that conference room helped with that - purposely).
Not to mention Jim's full body turn he does when he watches Spock leave, which to me definitely betrayed some kind of interest on Jim's part.
I get being mad at comphet Spock, (though TOS did comphet Spock also so 🤷) and I think if snw went in a slightly different direction with Chapel they could do something interesting and canon-compliant, which is a shame.
But after finishing the 1st season I really do feel the show only gets better (when they lay off the one liners a bit and focus more on the honestly pretty cool episode ideas they have), and it looks like it's done with love, attention to details and understanding, overall, what star trek is. (Which I can't say about some other star trek media cough cough).
But most importantly, at least for the sake of this post and for the sake of the ship that started modern fandom culture, I feel like they understand the gravity of K/S.
Now, I'm not deluding myself that they're going to 'get together' within SNW, if it's to keep with the tos timeline even in the slightest. And as much as I enjoy the show, it doesn't seem likely for it to be breaking any new grounds. Besides, at this point in time it would make no sense, considering there's no space for them to be together in TOS until season three at best. Any alternatives would either be either out of character, or simply upsetting (such as an on and off relationship, a breakup, things I don't want to think about 😞)
HOWEVER. They already made a hint Chapel is bisexual, and while they do try to generally keep with TOS canon - they diverge from it only when they think they are the point A from which they can get to point B, which is TOS. I don't always agree with their vision, but I can respect it. So I wouldn't be that surprised (though ecstatic) if they hinted at at least at Kirk being bisexual, here and there.
And in TOS canon Spirk is inescapable. If we ignore the romantic interpretation, which is already pretty hard to ignore, then in their capacity as soulmates - a part of canon that's impossible to ignore. And with as little Jim and Spock as we got so far, I think they understand that.
In SNW keeping Kirk and Spock apart messed up the whole timeline! You could say that Spock dying is what really messed it up, but we can clearly see the episode we've seen in TOS from a different perspective and things went south the moment Chris started to act. Both Kirk and Spock are there - both the same as in the regular timeline, in their respective duties. But they're not together and them not being together is so bad for the universe that Chris has to go back in time to tell himself to die (well not die but suffer from a horrific accident).
And if it doesn't feel extremely monumental, soulmate level shit idk what to tell you
#spirk#star trek snw#snw#i reeaally am surprised with how good this show is. i know the characterisation is controversial though like i said i get some of it#i get how they think itd get us from point a to point be#but otherwise the little details they get right make me tear up#the enterprise is so REAL AND ALIVE!#i absolutely LOVE uhura. i love her characterisation her motivations and her fears#i adore una. shes such a cool character#id like chapel more if she was an original character to be honest. just the knowledge that its supposed to be chapel has me a little 😣#but honestly its fine#oh I LOOOVE TPRING!#and most importantly. i love the plot points! fhe episodes idea and execution#where mbenga is navigating a storybook version of the enterprise... it was so charming but also so so very tos. and that's what i like#about this show is that it fundamentally understands what tos is. the whimsy and the social commentary#dont get me started about the episode with the CHILD oh my god. it was fantastic. it was sci fi it was horror it was#it slapped me in the face#yeah and while i adore spirk with every fibre of my being most criticisms of snw ignore the fact that they just met#and that it's supposed to be the past to tos ahh i could write a whole separate post about it#but i just cant believe people who hate snw but like a/os 🤨#one of these shows has all the wrong characterisation doesnt respect the source material and just doesnt understand what star trek is.#and it's not snw!

I'm thinking about fanon Tim traits and why people write them so often - obviously a lot of the traits are found in first which then informs other fics, and I think people generally read them more than comics so a lot of people get used to them and piggyback off them. Otherwise though, is it just that there's room in a lot of dynamics, both romantic and family wise for someone smaller, more delicate? Is there any single instance in canon that has started off any of these misinterpretations? Like, there are so many fun premises out there for first but Tim is just written so wrong and I'm just wondering where it's all come from.
Also, what are some of your most hated fanon Tim traits and misconceptions?

I got a vision (pure crack) of Harley Queen, now redeeming herself, having a youtube channel/social media where she reviews fast food items named after Gotham Vigilantes and Rogues.
BUT, she always drags Batman into it. Don't ask how she got him to accept, I don't know, but shr "kidnaps" him on slow nights, and now, they are sitting on some rooftops, with a bunch of food that Alfred would not approve of. (Good thing he doesn't use social media).
He gives the most empty reviews ever, barely comments on what he is eating, while keeping a straight face. He only does give criticism for the rare Harley Queen themed food, if he thinks it fits her or not.
And then, there are the numerous Joker themed food. Batman always glares at them with pure hatred, disgusted that people dare selling food named after a murderer. It's also totally memed to death, after a screenshot was posted with the description "He's going to kill that smoothie". He refuses to even touch these things, so Harley eats them alone, and she always exaggerates how disgusting it is, because fuck Joker, while actually finding it very good and finishing it in a record time. It is also memed.

as a tos-raised trek fan watching tng for the first time, i find myself yearning after the idea of sulu, chekov, uhura, or scotty getting their own slice of life episodes the way data and geordi or deanna occasionally do in tng... it would've been so nice to just follow them around the enterprise for a day watching them in their off-shift hours, getting into their own tomfoolery separate from the full bridge crew

John Whitehouse at MMFA:
On July 9, Oklahoma’s superintendent of public instruction Ryan Walters announced that a number of people — many of them key figures in right-wing media — would be rewriting the social studies curriculum in the state.
The list includes right-wing hosts with ties to Walters like Steve Deace, Dennis Prager, and Stacy Washington. Also included is Kevin Roberts, the head of The Heritage Foundation, which has organized Project 2025.
Walters announced an “executive review committee” to revise Oklahoma’s social studies curriculum. Members include Dennis Prager, Robert Pondiscio, David Barton, Kevin Roberts, Everett Piper, John Dwyer, David Goodwin, Mark Bauerlein, Steve Deace, and Stacy Washington. [Oklahoma State Department of Education, 7/9/24]
After implementing a mandate that the state’s public schools teach the Bible, Walters claimed that right-wing commentator and pastor Jackson Lahmeyer, who has promised to “embrace Christian nationalism” and previously ran for U.S. Senate in Oklahoma, encouraged him to implement such a policy last year. [Media Matters, 7/8/24]
Walters has approved PragerU Kids — which is widely criticized for pushing right-wing propaganda, such as including distorted histories about slavery in its history lessons — as curriculum for Oklahoma public schools. In one supposedly educational video, for instance, a cartoon version of Fredrick Douglass describes slavery as a “compromise to achieve something great.” [MSNBC, 9/7/23; Media Matters, 9/8/23; NBC, 8/10/23]
Dennis Prager is an anti-LGBTQ pundit who has hosted The Dennis Prager Show since 1999. In 2009, he founded the conservative nonprofit organization PragerU, which publishes short videos on political and international issues.
David Barton is a pseudo-historian and Christian nationalist well-known for spreading the idea that the country was supposed to be a Christian nation. Barton is the founder of WallBuilders.
Kevin Roberts is the president of the Heritage Foundation, the right-wing think tank leading Project 2025.
Steve Deace is a host for BlazeTV who has made many anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ remarks.
Stacy Washington is a commentator, radio host, and Air Force veteran who has appeared in many right-wing outlets. She was formerly a host of a program aired on American Family Radio, the radio arm of extreme anti-LGBTQ group American Family Association, before the network culled much of its programming and its dedicated Urban Family Communications network.
Right-wing indoctrination artist Oklahoma Superintendent of Public Schools Ryan Walters announced that he is having a team rewrite the state’s social studies curriculum, with many of its names right-wing media figures such as Everett Piper, serial history revisionist David Barton, indoctrination mill head Dennis Prager, and pundit Steve Deace.

Oh? Oh-HO!
Finally got around to reading the Angelina manga, and I'm on the issues where Big Bob shows up and mouths off about Columbia.
Here's the one panel that America-haters gleefully showed:
Tumblr media
"Yeah, fuck capitalism!"
Except that's not the context at all. Here are the panels immediately before that one:
Tumblr media
Taxes! Big Bob is ranting that "Taxation is theft!"
Far from criticizing capitalism and free enterprise healthcare, Big Bob is lambasting SOCIALIST welfare (always paid for by taxpayers) and socialized healthcare.
Big Bob is praising capitalism by insisting that taxation is theft, and he's praising private, free enterprise healthcare by insisting that his people should be free to keep their own money to buy medicine from the companies THEY deem to sell the best products.
Gee, I WONDER why people didn't want to share THESE panels?
Because Communists gonna Communist. They can never admit to the evils of their own practices, and they will shamelessly project those flaws onto capitalism.

"Socialism needs to pull down wealth; [classical] liberalism seeks to raise up poverty. Socialism would destroy private interests, Liberalism would preserve [them] ... by reconciling them with public right. Socialism would kill enterprise; Liberalism would rescue enterprise from the trammels of privilege and preference. Socialism assails the preeminence of the individual; Liberalism seeks ... to build up a minimum standard for the mass. Socialism exalts the rule; Liberalism exalts the man. "
Winston Churchill (1874-1965) British Prime Minister.

The rental prices in regional areas are such a joke. When I moved here I got a 3br house for 360/w and now that I'm moving out they're advertising it for 430/w even though there's a gaping hole in the lounge room ceiling, severe water damage, structural issues that have gone unaddressed for the three years we've been here and the photos they've put on the listing are so old they're only showing the external views even though that's not what the house looks like anymore.
So not only is the quality of the housing quite poor, they're hiking up the price to more than half of minimum wage's weekly income. It's really terrible like how are people who live in regional areas who get paid a lot less on average than people in cities meant to afford that really. It's perpetuating poverty.
