Just Us
Help Me (Part 1)
---------------------------------------------------
TW: Fake relationship, sexual tension, kissing, happiness, mostly fluff, secret crush
Note: First Jake series! Thank you @anyalikeslasagna for helping me so much through this part, it's gonna be a pretty mid length series, probably about 10 or less parts. Enjoy! ^^
-------------------Jake Peralta------------------
You were in your quiet and quaint apartment, soft music playing from your speaker as you cleaned and danced, a knock came rapping at your door.
You stopped the music with a call out, running to answer your door. As you opened the door, you saw Jake right outside with a tight, sparkly purple dress. "Hey, what's up? What's that for?" You asked, reaching for it before he pulled it away. "Let me in and I'll tell you," He said pushing you over and rummaging through your fridge. "You have nothing but junk in here!" He whined. "It's literally all the food groups, Jake. You just wouldn't know that because you only eat chips and drink only orange soda." You groaned. "True dat!" He chuckled to your reply. He sat on the couch, twiddling his fingers.
"Whats wrong?" You asked, handing him the bag of kettle cooked potato chips you had. "Well, you know how we're like besties and people usually think we're dating? Well I might..." He paused. "Have told the squad you were my girlfriend and that you'd come with me to the party with them tonight." He spoke quickly. You were quiet for a minute, trying to process the words that just came out of his mouth. "So I have to go to a party with your colleagues, whom of which I've NEVER MET, and pretend to DATE YOU?" You asked, angry he did that and never told you but happy you'd finally get to "date" Jake.
"Yeah..don't be mad, just come with me! It's gonna be ok! You're awesome, I'm totally awesome, and we'll be perfect together." He grinned. That was a sentence you've longed to hear.
"Fine. But, we need to discuss boundaries. I'm only going because I don't want you to embarrass yourself in front of your 'dad'." You were referring to the captain that Jake used to hate but now loves. "Alright! So's, what can I do an' what can't I do?" He asked, rubbing his sweaty palms on his knees.
"You can call me cute names, just nothing dumb, so like babe, baby, and dear is fine, no babydoll or baby girl." You exclaimed in disgust. "You can hold my hand, hip, and shoulder, no ass pokes. Kissing is good too, jus' no sexual jokes or anything, except your usual." The words slipped from your mouth easily. "I'm good with all of those. But, is holding you close to me ok? Like, pulling you by the waist, I guess." He asked, his cheeks a soft pink glow, his hand rubbing the back of his neck vigorously. You nodded to his question, handing him the TV remote. "Stay as long as you want, since we've gotta get into character." You told him, grabbing his hand and pulling him up off the couch.
"Ok, let me try this, just so you know, it's all fake," He smiled. "Don't take it like I'd really do this to you." A chuckle escaped his smile. You grinned at him, letting him do his thing.
He wrapped his arm around your waist, one hand resting on your lower back and the other on your upper, close to your neck. Your breath hitched, core aching. His hand moved its way to the back of your neck, pulling you close and your head up to reach his, and pressing a kiss to your lips.
His lips were soft. The kiss was softer. It was endearing. He had you pulled all the way up to his own body, a soft bulge growing under where your own pussy lay, crying for the feeling of it inside you.
He released your lips, looking into your eyes. His gorgeous brown eyes glimmering in the warm lighting of your apartment. "Was that good? Believable?" He asked, letting your body go. "Uh-Yeah. That's good." You smiled, the empty feeling filling your heart.
"Party's at 7, I'll pick you up. Wear this dress and uhh..black heels. I'll see you later, Princess." The last word was dragged out. You never said it was allowed, but you never said it wasn't. It made your heart flutter and your body warm. You grabbed the dress excitedly and skipped to your bedroom to pick out the rest of your outfit.

Sea Of Love - Cat Power "Come with me, my love, To the sea, The sea of love."
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
“Drive safe, Red.”
“Will do, Captain.”
The second he walked away from my car, the tears I’d been choking back came out, and unfortunately, I hadn’t stopped the entire drive back to the house to finish grabbing everything, which seemed silly because I could have packed before I went to see him. I spent the whole day trying to decide if I should even go, with breaks where I would just cry because I couldn’t believe that I couldn’t just spit out what happened.
The way he still insisted on walking me to my car speaks volumes about him, and I really didn’t know what I expected, but I was mentally prepared for him not to want to talk to me after everything. I don’t deserve him by any means.
I couldn’t stop myself from hugging him. I knew he wasn’t going to try anything because he’s always concerned about whether or not I’m comfortable, and I’m sure he didn’t want to take any chances of getting rejected.
9:20 p.m.
I pull into the driveway, crying harder as I put my car in park. I don’t want to go home. I should have just stayed there. Taking a deep breath, I force myself to go inside. I set my bag and phone down on a chair in our kitchen, knowing that if I had my phone with me, I’d never get anything packed.
I wander around the house, silently crying as I grab my things and shove them into my bag. Changing out of my jeans and into some leggings, hoping that maybe being more comfortable will help. Even though I know the only thing that would help right now is him.
Knowing that he came here so we could still spend the night together is making this worse. The way he so happily changed our plans and drove out here. I sit down on the couch, thinking about how he somehow made my catching up on emails more enjoyable. Rewarding me with kisses every time I finished one, I don’t think I’ve ever worked more efficiently than knowing I get to smooch a cute boy every time I hit ‘send.’
He was so sweet when I started to fall asleep, wanting to make sure I was comfortable. I was a little surprised when he said he would stay since he wouldn’t be able to check on the bar. Feeling how warm he was when he got into bed with me. Granted, I also was teasing him as he took his pants off. Quietly laughing at the thought, even with tears rolling down my cheeks.
He always has a way of making things better, even when he isn’t here. When we weren’t together, he’d send me random things he was thinking about throughout his day or asking how my day was going. I don’t think we’ve gone more than a few hours without talking since I called him that night.
My throat tightened, and I remembered how he reacted to Cass. The way he immediately just pulled me into his arms, letting me take my time to explain. He fully just listened to whatever I had to tell him like he genuinely wanted to know her. I just know that if she could meet him, she would absolutely adore him. Especially considering how he treats me, she would be planning our wedding already.
I walk through the house one last time to make sure I have everything. I should just go back. My stomach turns at the thought. I don’t even know what I’d say; I’ll just text him tomorrow—shutting the lights off as I walk back towards the kitchen.
I bring out the bulk of my stuff, shoving it all into my back seat. Quickly walking back inside to grab my bag and lock it up, my chest hurts as I pull the door shut behind me.
I grab my phone from my bag to check the time, and his name is on my Lock Screen.
11:02 p.m.
Jacob: hi, just wanted to say thank you again for everything. I don’t know if you’re still driving or not, so don’t feel like you have to reply right away
Jacob: but I’m still down to keep you company tomorrow, if you are. 🖤
My eyes are full of tears when I laugh—my sweet boy. Dropping my phone into the driver's seat, I stand there with my face in my hands, letting out the sob that had been waiting. I need him. It was like I needed something to tell me that it was the right choice to just go back to him, and that was enough.
I look up at the moon, “Cass… thank you.” My voice shakes as I say it, but god, it feels good to get it out. “You were right. I needed to find my Scott, and now, I just wish you were here to meet him.”
I have to go get him.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
My heart races as I drive down the dark roads, waiting until I get a little closer to Portland for more street lamps. But as I’m driving, I swear every song that comes on just makes my mind wander.
Hearing him call me honey for the first time in his office. His arms pulled me in so fast I didn’t have time to think about it. Talking me down or trying to, at least. I felt so safe with him, and I had only met him once before. Something about him was so comforting in that moment, whether it was the way he knew I was about to break and brought me into a quiet space to have my moment. Or the fact that he didn’t let go until I was ready.
The look in his eyes as he wiped my tears away, gently holding the sides of my face like he thought I would crumble if he added any more pressure. And to think that was just a glimmer of how thoughtful he is.
I’ve never met a man who just wants to do things like he does. He walked me to my car every night when I was at the bar, opening my door for me like he was straight out of the fifties or something. Always asked me to let him know when I made it home; it was a soft level of protection that I didn’t know I needed.
Standing there next to the water, the street lamps barely gave us enough light to see each other, but the way his lips looked and how he kept glancing at mine.. I knew I had to take my chance.
“Is this okay?”
His smile into me as we kissed made it hard for me not to fall for him. The way he so sweetly giggled against me. Keeping me close to him because it was cold out, but not wanting to stop. Oh, the first of many ‘one more’ kisses. Which always meant another ten minutes trying to escape him, not that I ever really wanted them to end. I’m almost positive that both of us genuinely started contemplating quitting our jobs to hide away together a handful of times.
Going out of his way to surprise me so I could still go to Salem. Taking a day off, even if I had to badger him a little about not checking in constantly. It was for his own good. It was so adorable how he just happily followed me, looking at all the haunted sites and letting me tell him all the history as we walked around. I suppose it helps that he’s definitely into those types of things, considering the pirate knowledge.
His sweet face turned red when the girl told us our aura colors were pretty compatible. But I can’t blame her for assuming when he grabbed my hand while she explained them to us. I knew it was because of what she was saying, and he just wanted to make sure I was okay.
I’ve simply never met a man who understood emotions like he does. I don’t understand how considering he grew up with two brothers, he’s definitely the odd one out of the three. The way he can stay so calm in most situations is beyond me. Even tonight, when I showed up, he seemed nervous for a second, but the moment I said something, he came around.
I could park right outside the bar because there was nobody out, but I decided to park around the corner so I could mentally prepare.
Just see if he’s still in the bar, and then if not, he should be at home. I don’t think he’s supposed to see his parents until tomorrow.
Shutting off the engine, I sit there staring at the sky. Ever since he pointed out the moon that night, I’ve felt comfort in it. Whether or not Cass can hear me, I will keep talking to her through it. I’d like to think she knows.
I step out, feeling the wind against my skin, shit- it’s cold. I start walking towards the bar, taking a deep breath before turning the corner. I pulled out my phone one more time, just to make sure he hadn’t said anything while I was driving here. No notifications.
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
11:35 p.m.
I round the corner, and he’s already standing outside as if he knew I would come back. I see him putting his phone into his pocket and looking down at his boots. It feels surreal to see him for some reason. He finally looks over as I get closer; I can see him trying to fight the smile growing on his face.
As I walk up to him, I whisper, “Hi.”
“Hey, you,” he whispers back, his voice alone made my eyes well up again. I look down at my feet, hoping to swallow the emotions, but fail miserably. Here goes nothing.
“Um,” I let out. I feel my lip quiver, so I tug it in with my teeth a little.
His voice was quiet, asking, “What’s wrong?” as he gently tilted my face up to look at him, which only made the tears flow faster.
“I don’t want this to be over, Jacob,” I choke out, pointing between the two of us. I have cried in front of this man far too many times in the last three weeks.
He sweetly wipes the tears before he finally says, “Hun,” Pulling me into him and placing a big kiss against my forehead. “It doesn’t have to be over.”
“I just want to be able to kiss you and be with you,“ I ramble out. All of the feelings I’ve been holding back started falling out of me.
He shakes his head slowly and calmly tells me, “I want that more than you know.”
“I don’t want to feel like we have to be quiet about it.”
“We don't have to.”
“Jake, I just,” I start, my voice sounded a little panicked at this point. “I have stronger feelings for you than I anticipated and—”
He quickly tells me, “I promise those are most definitely mutual, honey.”
“It scares me a little,” I admit quietly.
“Hey–” he cuts me off, “I will have you however you’ll let me,” holding my face in his hands, and then he says, “I told you before- whatever you’re comfortable with.”
“I don’t want you to feel like I’m interested in anyone else,” I start, “Because I only—.” My brain is moving faster than I can move my mouth while still trying to calm down from crying when he leans in. –Want you. The most relieving kiss I’ve ever felt; time slowed the second his lips met mine. My hands find their spot on his stomach; just having extra contact with him helps me slow down.
He pulls away, and his hands are still holding the sides of my face as he looks at me. He looks like he wants to say something, but I watch him swallow hard before he finally caves. I feel like I know what’s coming.
“Say the word, and I’ll forget about the ‘friends who maybe sleep together' thing,” he whispers. “I would do anything to call you mine.” His face is still so close to mine as we stare at each other for a second in comfortable silence. There is only one right answer in my mind.
“Please.”
His lips find mine quickly, smiling into me like a kid on Christmas morning. My heart pounds as we practically relive our first kiss. Not knowing how to stop, giggling as we take turns placing little kisses everywhere.
“You’re sure you want this?” He asks, his hands still holding my jaw. “Like absolutely positive?”
“I don’t think I’ve ever been more sure about something,” I tell him, a small laugh sneaking out. He stares at me for a second before looking up; his eyes close before he shakes his head a few times. His arms fall, sliding around my waist. When he looks back at me, his eyes are glistening. My hands quickly grabbed him, wiping his tears as they finally fell, “Aw, baby.”
“I feel ridiculous,” he giggles, trying to sniff the emotions away.
“I’ve cried enough times in front of you— I think you’ve earned it.”
He looks up again, letting out a small laugh, and then looks back at me. His hands grabbed mine, holding onto them tightly when his adorable little voice wavered, telling me, “I just really thought I had lost any chance with you.” He breathes in a shaky breath and, on the exhale, says, “And I’m just so happy that I get to keep you to myself now.” A few tears sneak out as he tells me. He really is the most precious man alive. I steal one of my hands back from him, gently wiping his face again.
We stood there giggling like teenagers when the realization hit me, “I get to say you’re my boyfriend now.”
“Mhm,” He hums against me. “I’m all yours.”
Kissing him a few times before giggling against his lips, “Jacob, I’m your girlfriend.. we’re dating.” He just smiles against me, and I can’t stop the excitement from coming out as I bounce back and forth in his arms. “Did you ever think this would have happened?”
“Honey, you have felt like a fever dream to me for three weeks.” He chuckles to himself, “No, I never thought I would be lucky enough to find someone like you.”
After a few minutes of bliss, I finally have to come out with the truth, all of them.
“I want to tell you something,” I tell him. “Well.. actually, a couple of things.”
“Go for it,” he says; his smile might be permanent. Let me start with the least important thing.
“Cass made me promise that if I found some boy with long hair and nerdy interests, I had to try,” I admit. “I just didn’t know how to handle it when I found you because I haven’t been in a ton of relationships— but you made it so… easy.”
“I’ve never been more relieved to be a long-haired nerd in my life.” He giggles at himself, kissing my cheek when he mumbles, “I hope I make her proud.”
I don’t know how I could cry more at this point, but my voice shakes when I tell him, “Oh, she would have loved you.”
He tugs me back in for a hug; I just snuggle into him for a minute. Naturally, he would say something like that.
“What else is there?” He asks quietly.
“Well..um,” I hesitated. Just spit out, Char. “I have to go home, like up-north-home, or I’m going to get fired.”
His eyebrows pull together, letting out a small laugh before finally asking, “You? How would you get fired?”
“I sort of have been lying to my boss to be .. here,” I tell him, dodging his eye contact. It’s quiet for a beat before he finally speaks up.
“Wait– is that why you were so upset?”
I nod, “Mhm..he called when I was at Quinn’s, and I had been freaking out since because I was .. scared to tell you.”
“Oh, hun. Fuck, I’m so sorry,” his smile fades quickly.
“No, I’m sorry,” I tell him, grabbing his hands, “You didn’t know, and I was acting like a dick to you.”
“I still wish I hadn’t panicked so fast,” he says, the look on his face making my heart hurt. “I’d never say anything like that to you ever again. I thought I’d lost you as soon as it came out.”
The tears prick my eyes as he tells me. It makes even more sense now– he thought his heart was about to get shattered. The thought of not keeping him around had never crossed my mind; I would have figured out a way.
“I knew you didn’t mean it, baby,” I told him. “I forgave you the second you started crying.”
He pulls my hands up, kissing across my knuckles, letting out a long breath. Looking back at me, “So, if you have to go back home, what do we want to do?”
The way he says ‘we’ could make me cry.
“Well,” I start. “I don’t mind driving here. And I typically only work during the week, so I could come to you right after I clock out on Fridays.”
“I will never say no to that,” he tells me. Quickly following up with, “But I can also come to you during the week since the bar isn’t as busy.” His hands gently squeezed mine.
“Are you going to be able to handle not being here?” I tease him.
“Oh, shut up,” he laughs; oh, I love that laugh. “I’m gonna need to get over it at some point. At least I’ll have you as a distraction.”
I just hum back, “Mhmm.”
“We’ll make it work, hun,” he says; he sounds so sure of it.
“You really don’t mind?”
“Not at all,” he tells me, “I’ll do whatever I need to if it means getting to be with you.”
My hands hold the sides of his neck as I kiss him a few times, whispering, “You’re unreal.” Enjoying the butterflies as he giggles against my lips, finding it increasingly more difficult to focus every time I kiss him. I need to tell him first, and then we can have fun. I get a little chill just thinking about getting to spend the night with him after this. FOCUS CHAR.
“Um, there’s still more,” I spit out. “I sort-of-maybe-kind of lied to you.” Kissing his cheek a couple of times before looking at him with an uncomfortable smile.
He lets out a laugh, “Really just getting it all out there, are we?”
“I can’t start a relationship with you and not just tell you all of this!”
“Whatever you need to do, hun,” he laughs. “Go on.”
“I didn’t need to be here at all,” I start. “Melody could have just done everything in like a day and your paperwork had been sitting in my car already settled for the past two weeks.”
“I know.”
“What– You know?” I stared at him, my eyebrows pulled in immediately, wholly lost in how he knew what I was doing.
“Of course, I know,” he giggles. “Who do you think helped Josh get certified, honey?”
My mouth hangs open for a second, “Why didn’t you say anything?”
“Well, honestly— it took a few nights of you being here for me to realize, but also,” he laughs, his hands finding mine. “You really think I’m gonna out the most beautiful girl on wanting to be around me–” he pauses, looking at me with his eyebrows raised before shaking his head with a quiet, “Absolutely not.”
I can’t get anything out before he quickly adds, “I honestly had just forgotten about it when I hired Mel, so when you asked, I just assumed it was about to screw me more.”
“Wait— so, you just.. let me interrupt your schedule for like two weeks to vaguely help train Mel?” I ask quietly.
He nodded quickly at that, “Gladly.”
“But.. that’s so..” I hesitate.
“I think it paid off,” He lightly tips my chin up to meet his gaze, “Don’t you?” Leaning in and leaving a small kiss on my lips.
I can’t stop the giggle that sneaks out when I whisper, “Think you’re so smooth, huh?”
“Is it working?”
“I mean, you got me,” I laugh. “So, I guess I’m gonna have to say yes.”
Taking every chance I have to kiss him, like I’ve been deprived for so long. A bit dramatic of me, but how am I supposed not to kiss him at this point?
He shyly asks, “Do you still need to leave?”
“I can leave in the morning,” I tell him. “They can survive a couple of hours tomorrow without me.”
“So.. you’ll stay with me?” He asks, biting his lip subtly.
I giggle at how cute he is before whispering, “Yes, baby.”
“Thank the lord,” he lets out, pulling me into him.
My arms slid around his neck as snowflakes decorated us slowly. Pressing kiss after kiss onto his face and lips, dimly lit by the street lamp nearby. Fighting the urge to cry again, holding the back of his neck, I kissed his cupid's bow; the tears that had been threatening to fall made their escape. Pulling away, I start to lean back so I can compose myself again. Seeing the tip of his nose is red, and I can’t shake the chill in the air. Stopping this moment feels wrong, but I cave.
“Can we go inside? It’s freezing,” I asked, scooting a little closer to him. I traced my finger down his nose, tapping its tip a few times.
“In a minute—”
With no hesitation, his arm wraps around my waist, pressing me up against him. His free hand quickly wipes the tears away from my cheeks. I watch his eyes dance between my eyes and my mouth like he always does. His hands found my jaw, and just like our first kiss, he lingered a breath away before he whispered, “One more.”
⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯⎯
The moment his bedroom door shuts, I can’t stop myself. My hands pulled his face to mine, and his lips pressed into mine like we hadn’t seen each other in months. Our breathing is already heavy, and we’ve hardly made it past the threshold.
“I know I told you, but” he pauses to kiss me. “I’m so sorry for everything, and I promise—never again.” He litters my face with little pecks.
I slide my hands into his, pulling him towards his bed until I feel the frame hit the back of my knees. Tilting my head slightly as I lean into him, kissing him again.
“No, I’m sorry,” I tell him quietly. “I shouldn’t have lied to you— about any of it.” He leans forward, pressing his lips against my forehead a few times.
Sitting back on his bed, I grab the collar of his shirt, pulling him to me. Both of us smiled into each other; I couldn't stop myself from holding his jaw.
“Move back for me, honey.”
I never want him to call me anything else. I move myself up his bed, laying back on his pillow. He follows suit, watching his necklace swing as he crawls over me, making my mouth water.
The feeling of his body pressed to mine when I slid my arms around his neck, pulling him against me in a hug. Nothing could have stopped me from kissing the side of his neck a few times.
“This feels fake,” I tell him quietly, letting out a small giggle.
He kisses the side of my head before pulling back to look at me, “It does feel different.” Tucking the hair behind my ear as he just stared at me, the slight smile on his lips.
His eyes gazed down for a second before meeting mine again when he leaned in, his lips finding my bottom one. Every kiss felt more desperate until my hands found their way into his hair. I could see his chest moving from how heavy his breath was.
His hips shift against me, and it sends a little wave of pleasure through me, letting out a small ‘mmm’ into his mouth, and I can feel the smirk on his face.
He rolls his hips into me again, pulling another quiet moan out of me. I grab his bottom lip gently with my teeth, giggling as I let it go. His eyes are still closed, but that lethal smile of his beams at me.
“Hi, baby,” I whisper. I felt butterflies when he finally opened his eyes to look at me.
“Mmm.. honey,” he mumbled back. His hand slid down to the waistband of my leggings, hooking his finger into it. “May I?”
I lean up, kissing him slowly before telling him, “Please.” His hands waste no time, sliding my leggings off and tossing them on the floor. He lightly drags his fingers up the inside of my thighs, letting his right hand timidly run over the damp fabric.
“Oh?” He says quietly, popping an eyebrow up at me.
It’s hard not to blush when he’s hovered over me, looking the way he does. Sliding the fabric over, he rests his hand on me for a minute as he kisses my cheek.
I feel his finger as he teases me, only for a second before letting it slip into me. Even just his middle finger alone makes me fall apart. Slowly pumping it into me, making my body tingle with every time he grazes that one spot.
“You’re so pretty.”
I let out another ‘mmm,’ watching his eyes light up at the sound. He starts moving his hand a little faster, and the way his palm is pushing against my clit is making my head spin.
Snaking my hands down, I unbutton the rest of his shirt. Good lord— he’s so fine.. wow I’m so fucking lucky. Moving to undo his pants, when he giggles softly.
“Is that what you want?” He whispers, and even hushed, his voice makes me melt.
I nod a few times, “Please, baby.” I pulled the zipper on his jeans as far as I could reach before just letting my hand run over him.
Watching him slide his shirt and jeans off, I swear I can feel my pupils dilate. I’ve never been so attracted to a man in my life. He leans back over me, in just his tight boxers, feeling my thighs tense at the sight.
I just want to touch him constantly, letting my hands run over his shoulders before moving to his chest. His skin is always so warm and soft, and it takes all my willpower not to kiss every inch of him.
I’m still not used to the way his hair will brush against me when we’re in positions like this. But— he is so sexy when he pushes it out of his face, flipping it to one side. Or pulling it back before he goes down on me like he did the night we were drunk. I hope he knows how gorgeous he really is.
The way his eyes light up when he slides my sweater off will never get old. He’s always so gentle with everything, even when he slides my bralette over my head. His hands so softly grab at my tits, grazing his thumbs over my nipples. It’s honestly really adorable how much he likes that they’re pierced.
Littering kisses over my collarbones and then slowly working his way down until he hovers over one of my nipples, letting his tongue lead the kiss. Watching his plump lips wrap around it, a man surely doesn’t need lips like his, but lord, am I glad I’m the one he’s putting them on. It never seems like it could get better, and then he moves to the other side, and I get to relive it.
He sits up after a minute and reaches over to his nightstand, pulls out a condom, and quickly sets it next to me. Leaning back down, he starts peppering my neck and collarbones with little pecks, running his hand up my side.
“Babe, you know you don’t have to—” I whisper, glancing over at it.
He holds my chin, giving me a slow kiss and giggling to himself as he pulls away, finally saying, “Hun, as much as I’d love not to— I’m not taking any more risks right now.” I can’t stop the laugh that sneaks out of me.
“Plus, this is easier to clean up since Josh is down the hall,” he mumbles quickly, that sweet little smirk of his coming back. Letting my fingers lightly drag down his sides and over his hip bones as I look up at him.
He slides his boxers off, kneeling between my legs. He starts to stroke himself as he looks at me. My jaw falls open at the sight.
“What?” He asks through a laugh. You’re so fucking hot. Not only am I able to see his chest and stomach in front of me, but the way his arm is flexing as it moves and how his hair falls around his face when he looks down.
My brain stalls trying to answer because seeing how his hand is wrapped around his cock has me thoroughly captivated. He grabs the condom, ripping the foil, and quickly rolling it down the length of him; I’ve never seen a man make that sexy, but there’s a first for everything.
He leans back down, lining himself up with me and slowly pushing in. We both let our little moans at the feeling. He bottoms out in me and just sits there for a second, looking at me with his hands cradling my head, when he whispers, “I missed you.”
“Oh,” slips out. I pull him in, kissing his face as he starts to move his hips. Gently rocking them into me, fully engulfed in the moment, we take turns pressing kisses into each other. This kind of sex feels different.
Being able to kiss him and run my hands all over him, just enjoying the feeling of being so close. Holding eye contact while he pushes himself into me slowly, like he’s savoring every second of it. My heart pounds as we look at each other.
He starts to move a bit quicker, and I’m fighting every urge to moan, knowing we aren’t home alone. But nothing could stop me from letting out a quiet, “Harder, babe.”
Watching his lips curl up, he leans forward, kissing my forehead before sitting up on his knees. His hands wrap around my hips, pulling me closer to him. Thrusting hard into me, he slides one hand over, lightly toying with my clit. His mouth hung open slightly, necklace bouncing off his chest, that small trail of hair on his stomach, his hands touching me; the sight of him alone brings me closer.
A moan sneaks out; my eyes go wide at him.
“Does that feel good, honey?” He says, his voice lowered; his voice alone makes me wet.
I nod, pulling my lip in with my teeth. I tap his hip a few times so he’ll stop. He looks at me with his eyebrow raised.
“Lay down, babe,” I tell him. He moves back as we trade spots, except he leans against his headboard. His hands guiding me onto his lap, feeling so full as I sit on his cock. Taking a second to adjust to the position, I lean into him, letting my lips hover over his ear when I whisper, “You fit so perfectly inside me.” His delicious little groan as the goosebumps flood his skin.
I start grinding against him, feeling my own orgasm creeping closer, letting quiet whimpers out next to his ear, kissing down his neck. Anything to shower him in affection because he deserves it.
“Char,” he mumbles. “If you keep doing that, I’m not gonna last long.”
Resting my forehead against the side of his head, I whisper, “Touch me.” His hand snakes down, rubbing my clit quickly, pulling some quiet moans out of me. I sit up, and my hips start to lift off of him, bouncing slightly. The angle of being on top makes him hit every right spot as I move. My body is starting to feel warm as his hand keeps rubbing tight little circles.
“Jake,” I breathe out, my hand grabbing the headboard behind him. “Oh my god. Baby, I'm gonna—.”
His eyes light up, and I can feel how wet I am as I come down on him, over and over. He finally whispers, “Fuck me, honey.”
I’m seconds from losing it, and my body is tingling; I can feel the knot in my stomach, and even my nipples are peaked when he sends me over the edge, quietly moaning out, “Oh, my sweet girl. Wanna feel you come for me.”
It hits me as I come down on him, my legs refusing to lift me back up as my head drops back in pleasure. His hand slowed and joined the other, holding my sides to support me.
I lean into him, tucking my face into his neck, feeling our chests rise and fall together. His arms wrapped around me, holding me close.
“Hold on tight,” he mumbles, so I slide my arms around his neck quickly. Sitting up, he holds me against him with one arm, flipping us over. Making sure not to knock my head against the headboard, he sets me down carefully.
He leans into my ear, giggling, “This is gonna last like two seconds.” His hips start thrusting into me; he locks his arms behind my knees to hold them up. Driving himself into me quickly, his eyebrows pulled together as his mouth started to open slightly.
“Mmm, Jake,” I moan quietly, knowing it’ll only help him. “God, you feel so good.” Watching his face get a little red at the praise, his hips move a little faster, he's gotta be so close. I pull his face down to mine, hovering my lips over his, whispering, “Come on, baby. I’m all yours.”
I can see him suck in a breath before he lowers himself, tucking his face in close to mine as his hips start to struggle. His little jagged breaths next to me when he lets out a small “fuck.” His sweet face presses into mine, letting his lips rest on my cheek, lazily leaving little kisses on me while I’m just running my hands along his back, letting him have his moment to recover as he does for me.
“Char,” he whispers after we have been lying there for a minute.
I turned my face towards him, “What?”
“I’m so.. happy,” he says. “I can’t believe I get to call you mine, finally.”
I run my hand down the back of his head, “I’m happy too.” Holding him close for a second, it feels like I could cry just lying here with him. I can’t fight the giggle that comes out when I tell him, “Let’s go take care of ..that.. we have a night of cuddling to make up for, Sir.” Giving him a little double pat on his ass that makes him laugh.
“You’re right,” he giggles, moving off of me. I slide out of bed, standing up, and before I can grab anything to pull on, his hands grab my hips.
“What are you-“ I start to ask until I feel his lips against my ass. He sucks in gently, almost nibbling on my skin for a second before pressing another small little peck against it.
“Told you I didn’t need to try that hard,” he says, shooting a wink at me as I look down at him.
My jaw just falls open for a second, glancing down at the small bruise that’s forming. Something about him doing that lit a small fire in me.
“Um,” I let out.
He just smiled at me as he stood up, “What?”
“Since when have you liked doing that?”
“You like that, huh?” His hands slid around me, giving me chills. “Why don’t you stay here? I’ll bring something back to clean you up.” He mumbles, kissing the side of my head.
“Well, hurry up,” I giggle. “We have new things to discuss when you get back.” My eyebrows pull together for a second as I tell him.
I tap his phone to see the time when I’m caught off guard by his Lock Screen. When did he..? There sat a photo of me from our day in Salem, and I felt my eyes start to tear up over him again. He is absolutely everything.
He’s only gone for a couple of minutes, wandering back into his room, only wearing his little boxer briefs. I’m never going to complain about that. It makes me happy that he’s already comfortable enough with me to do it.
I sit up to take the towel from him, but he just holds it away from me, shaking his head.
“Absolutely not,” He tells me, fighting a small laugh when he says it. “I can take care of you. You’re my girlfriend now; let me have this.” He kneels on the floor, pulling me to the edge of the bed.
“So.. when you did it before was because..?”
His face starts turning red at the question, his little smirk as he clears his throat, trying to avoid it. Just quietly making sure everything is clean; he really is so cute sometimes.
“Oh, you have to tell me now. You can’t get all shy on me,” I tease him.
He looks up at me with those dumb brown eyes, “Definitely wasn’t because you were already mine.. in my head.”
“Ooohhh,” I coo, gently holding the sides of his face and placing a little kiss on the tip of his nose. Giving him a slow wink when I tell him, “Your secret is safe with me.”
I can’t describe the feeling I get when I watch him. Even with things as simple as him picking up a few pieces of clothes from his floor, I just want to stare at him as he does mundane tasks. Maybe it’s because of the slight chance he’ll glance over and shoot me one of those lethal smiles. Sometimes, he just looks at me, and my heart cartwheels. I’ve never felt like this about anybody I’ve dated.
My heart pounds as I sit here, watching him grab a sweatshirt for me from his closet. He turns around to hand it to me with that soft smile on his lips, a loose strand of hair falling into his face. I can’t help but admire his chest and stomach as he stands in front of me. But nothing prepared me for the look in his eyes when I reached out to take it from him.
I love you.
I feel the heat rush into my face at the thought. Is that crazy? I take the sweatshirt from him, but I don’t break eye contact until I pull it over my head, flipping my hair out from it. He’s still staring at me, which makes my whole body heat up.
I can’t help but laugh out, “What?”
“You,” he says.
My eyebrows raise, “What about me?”
He slides into bed, facing me, and grabs my hands. His eyes looked all over before saying, “I don’t want to say too much.”
I squeeze his hands a couple of times, telling him, “You’re never too much for me.” The look in his eyes changed when I said it. Almost like they softened a bit, and the corners of his lips turned up, we sat there quietly for a moment.
“Are you okay?” I cave, asking him as he looks down at our hands. His thumbs run over the backs of my hands.
He nods, his eyes moving back up to meet mine, the smile is still there. “I’m more than okay.”
“What is it then?” I move closer to him. He seems comforted whenever we’re touching.
He takes a deep breath, “I just want to make sure it’s clear that I still mean it when I say ‘whatever you’re comfortable with,” pausing for a second, “I never want to make you feel uncomfortable or pressured into anything.”
“I will tell you if anything is too much,” I tell him, “but I promise that I don’t think you could scare me away, babes.”
His sweet little smile at the pet name, “Is that a challenge?”
Both of us giggled at him, trying not to be loud since it was late. Sitting here with him, just talking and laughing, feels so natural with him.
“This is nice,” I tell him quietly.
He just looks at me, wishing I could hear what he was thinking. His arm slides around my waist, pulling me into him as he falls into the pillows. Trying not to laugh too loudly as he peppers my face with kisses, holding me hostage in his arms. Everything with him feels like a dream.
We finally settled into bed, and I’m curled up against him. Laying there in the quiet, it hit me that he was already outside when I got here. He wasn’t smoking.. I can’t stop myself from finally asking, “Why were you outside?”
“What do you mean?”
I prop myself up on my elbow to look at him, “When I got here, you were already out there?”
“Oh,” He looks over at me with a soft smile, gently reaching out and pulling me in close. His lips landed on mine gently, letting a little exhale out mid-kiss like it was what he really needed at the moment. Pulling back to look at me, his hand still holding my jaw, letting his thumb run along my cheek. The look in his eyes had me falling in love with him all over again— and then he whispered, “I was waiting for you to come home.”
My eyes well up as I look at him. Oh, I really do love you. I softly wipe my thumb across his lip, leaning in close to him.
“I’ll always come home to you, Jacob,” I whisper. Watching his eyes light up, and just before he kissed me, he quietly let out the two words that changed everything.
“Oh, honey.”

Once upon a time when employees are being interviewed at SI:
.
.
Interviewer: So what is it like working for Iron Man?
Employee A: Oh! Easy question. I like that. It is an honor, you know. It's what I thought when I joined, and it still is now. But also, I did not expect that SI is a place where we are allowed to prioritize things like family. Like last time, I left my phone on silent at my desk cause I had to go to a meeting. My kid at home was having an emergency and I couldn't be reached. But apparently, Friday, Mr. Stark's AI, keeps track of phone vibrations so she made the report and someone came to notify me. I didn't even know there was a protocol for that. Turns out my daughter was having her period for the first time! And I'm a single father so I had no idea what to do and I was panicking. Next thing I know, an SI nurse came and apparently she was sent by Mr. Stark to walk me through how to help. Apparently, Fri also caught my panic rumblings and triggered 'YOU ARE NOT ALONE PROTOCOL' or something. (*laughing*) The next week, we received an official email introducing a new department called Human Care. They encourage everyone to reach out if we ever find ourselves out of our depths on non company emergency matters.
.
.
Interviewer: How long have you been working here?
Employee B: Eight years, two months, six days and counting.
Interviewer: What's the weirdest thing you've witnessed here?
Employee B: (blanks out)
Employee B (struggling to think): Ahm. Really? Just one? Er- That's a tough one. Maybe that one time they set up a room for everyone to try lifting Thor's hammer? Or wait, no, maybe that time there when flying roombas were everywhere following Mr. Stark and reminding him to eat? Or when a villain came via the vents but before he could come down, Hawkeye accidentally hit him with pepper spray? I don't know, man. Weird things happen a lot. We're used to it by now.
.
.
Interviewer: Do you feel safe working here?
Employee C: Yeah. The avengers live here. But to tell you the truth, I think Happy Hogan and his black tux team of agents scare all the potential bad guys away. I heard rumors that Black Widow personally trains them. Like, I know two of them. Jake, for instance. He's like a giant, and he is intimidating but I saw him crying one time and when I asked him why, he just said Mr. Hogan.
.
.
Interviewer: Which avenger have you met?
Employee D: Oh, I've met two of them. Captain America and Thor. It was odd but one time, they were in the cafeteria and carrying trays of food and I do not mean just one each. Nope. Like, a ton! Like they're feeding an army. But it makes sense. Can you imagine the workout? With bodies like theirs? And the battles they go to? Man, if I have to save the world from aliens, I'll probably need the same nutrition.
.
.
Interviewer: Which avenger is the kindest?
Employee E: Ahm...We all know they're all badass. But kindest, I think Spider-Man. Last Thursday, it was raining, and then Spidey suddenly came all wet and holding a box and I'm gonna quote him now. He said, "Friday, can you please ask Mr. Sam Wilson Falcon sir to come down? The shelter is close and I have a box of puppies and I really, really want to bring them up but Mr. Stark is gonna ban me from the lab again."
Interviewer: Aww. So what happened next? What did they do with the puppies?
Employee E (grinning): Falcon came down, alright. But he came with Iron Man who zoomed past everyone to drag Spidey to the penthouse. I am not sure what I heard but he was muttering about oven toasters and frozen spiderlings? In the end, aome employees volunteered to take care of them. But I believe two of them are at the avengers' floor. We saw Mr. Stark ranting about puppy paw paint marks on his armani.
Interviewer (gasps): Oh my. Was he mad?
Employee E (ends up laughing): Mad? Try grunting fondly? Peter really likes those puppies. Mr. Stark tried to act like he hates them but really, he adores everything about the kid, puppies included. He even had custom made collars with avengers logo made for them.
.
.
Interviewer: I'm sorry? The Winter Soldier was asking directions to where?
Employee F: The Lego Store.
.
.
Interviewer: How would you describe the workload? Do you still get work life balance?
Employee G: I guess it depends. I work in R&D and we're all nerds there. So like, we're typically busy but it's play for us. Some days, we're really cramped with work, mostly when deadlines are nearing or sometimes, we're just really in the zone, we do not want to stop. Peter activated 'NIGHT NIGHT PROTOCOL' for that. Had Fri lock us out of the lab and we had no choice but to go home or nap at the sleep wing. And would you believe? After the product launch, we got emails on mandatory vacation leaves with bonus to spend! Like, who does that? So yeah, it's cool working here.
.
.
And then, there was this:
Interviewer: How does it feel to be the heir of a multibillion dollar top green tech company?
Peter (stares quizzically, dumb-founded): Uhhh-....Look, sorry, I think I'm in the wrong room. I'm not- Maybe you got the wrong questionnaire? I'm just an intern-
Interviewer: Oh. Wait. Is it top secret then? Sorry, I was told of your identity as Mr. Stark's kid so I thought I could ask. But if you're not comfortable-
Peter: WHAT!?? Who said that? They're probably just joking.
Interviewer (chuckles nervously): Ms. Potts did actually.
Peter (freezes): Oh.
Suddenly the door opens and Tony walks in.
Tony: Hey kid, and Ms. Carrenland. How's the interview going? Thought I'd drop by for moral support, you know.
Peter (looks torn, but excuses himself to go to Tony): Uhm, Mr. Stark, can I talk to you for a second? Look, sir, ahm, I think there's been a misunderstanding. The interviewer asks me how it feels to be your heir. Like that's real. I don't-
Tony (has his brows rising to his hairline): Kid. Peter. Breathe.
Peter (groans and sighs embarrassingly): I just didn't want to lie! They mistook me for someone else. It was a misunderstanding!
Tony (smirking): It's really not.
Peter: What?
Tony: Kiddo, I was the one who gave Pep the approval to sign the questions. And really, you've been managing the R&D department and shadowing Pep at management for a year now. You never wondered why I make you do that?
Peter: Oh.
Tony: Yup. Genius child here.
Peter: I just wanted to help. You seem stressed out with the Avengers' work and dealing with the government. I thought I could lend a hand. I didn't- I don't expect you to- I'm not worth that, Mr. Stark.
Tony (scoffs): I beg to differ. Look, I'll be honest with you. Even if you aren't interested in the company, it's still gonna be yours. Look around you, kid. Do you think I let just anyone go around with a free pass at my tower? You have a room at my home. This place is your home, as where as everywhere else that I own. Plus, it's another motivation for you to take care of yourself when you go out as Spidey. Imagine all our employees. They need you, kiddo.
Peter (mumbling softly): I'm just Peter Parker.
Tony (smiles and pats his shoulder): And that is why I chose you.

Fire Country Season 1
apparently, some very lovely people on Tumblr asked for a quick review on Fire Country and since I'm already bingeing hard on this, why not?! (Some spoilers in the review, please proceed with caution). This one's for you @idontknow-1213 and @sounknownvoid 🤗🤗
For those who don't know the show, it starts with Bode Donovan (actually a Leone but changes his name to Donovan) in prison applying for a program to be a firefighter. It's all good and lovely, until the day he starts the program and is assigned to a firefighter camp, Three Rock in Edgewater, his hometown. Ghost of his past actions (revealed later) have him conflicted about being back home and he requests for a transfer but of course ends up staying. Throughout the season, Bode struggles to build the bridges with friends and family that were burnt long ago, all the while striving to be a better person. He believes if given a chance, people can change.
Now let's talk about some key characters!
Bode Donovan (Leone): our protagonist, though looks like a guy you wanna don't cross, thanks to the muscular build, long hair and prison tats, he is actually sweet but deeply misunderstood guy. He takes his job as a firefighter very seriously and is not afraid to defy an order if it means saving people. I mean you can't always play by the books, right? One thing I noticed about him is though he is out of prison (in a way), he still goes by the prison law. Bode has a long way to go.
Manny Perez: Captain of Three Rock, Gabriela's father and Bode's mentor. He keeps the inmates in line but also believes in them and has their backs. He comes to appreciate Bode's knack at being a natural firefighter and regards him highly. Unfortunately, Manny has his own demons he tries to fight on the side. This is also why Manny relates to the inmates because he shares a similar past. I like his character. He is a man who learnt a lot the hard way. Quite hard bitten like that.
Sharon Leone: Division Chief Sharon Leone is Bode's mother (gasp!). She is also sick (kidney disease, it sucks) so she requests Manny to keep Bode in the camp and he does. While Sharon has a soft spot for her incarcerated son, she is headstrong and damn good at her job (woman knows her shit and how to make it work). She is a total badass and popular among men (I mean, seriously what's with other men hitting on her like she's single cause she ain't?!)
Vince Leone: that's Bode's dad (and if you are a huge Twilight geek like me, you would recognise him as Chief Charlie Swan, Bella's father) who doesn't want to be Bode's dad because he is the reason why his daughter, Riley dies. (Not really, he thinks he is but accidents happen and the catalyst is someone else). So Vince hasn't forgiven Bode for this until the real guy confesses and Vince is stuck in a situation that brings back old memories. What's Vince like? A devoted husband (except for that one incident), a good firefighter and a girl dad that's hard on his son. And did y'all know, the actor Billy Burke is a damn good singer??!
Gabriela Perez: Manny's Olympic-swimmer-turned-firefighter daughter. Honestly, when I first saw the cast, I expected Gabz to be a lot stronger but she's just a sweet girl next door that's trying to follow her heart, conflicted to choose between swimming and firefighting, just like Jake and Bode. Sparks fly between her and Bode as they try to balance their feelings among other chaos. Although, they are still not my favorite couple. I prefer Vince and Sharon (tooth rooting couple goals!!). I honestly wanted to like her but she comes with unnecessary baggages and is a bit of a crybaby (sorry!) but whoever is incharge of her costume, needs a raise. Her wardrobe is really pretty 😍
Jake Crawford: ex boyfriend to Gabz and ex friend to Bode. They have a fallout when Bode discovers Jake cheated on Riley which ultimately led to her demise. And honestly, I was prepared to hate Jake (no, it has nothing to do with Jake reminding me of Jacob Black from Twilight) and while he starts off as a jackass, towards the end of season 1, they redeemed him well. He is also serious about his job and his new love interest (thank God!) Cara who happens to be Bode's ex! (Yeah, they date in the family, it seems like🤣) he respects the Leones (Vince and Sharon, I mean)
Eve Edwards: (is it just me or that's too many Twilight references already? 🙊) a part of Bode, Jake and Eve trio friendship, she is funny but doesn't sugarcoat it. She is fiercely loyal and hardworking. They start exploring her character towards the end of season 1
Freddy Mills: Inmate at Three Rock camp and Bode's friend. Their camaraderie is commendable. Both are loyal to each other and have each other's back. I think Bode needed a friend like him. So that's good. Plus, he wants to marry a girl named Cookie!
Throughout the season, Bode tries to prove he is worthy of being at Three Rock, worthy of Gabriela's love but with his own conflicted nature and Sleeper, an inmate from Bode's past comes to stir trouble, it creates a challenge, leaving Bode with a difficult choices to make.
I honestly went in blind with Fire Country. At first, I was just going to see the episode with Camden in it (duh!) but I decided to give the show a try and I'm glad I did. What I love about this show is, if you have seen Walker, it will give similar family vibes. The entire Cal Fire unit works like a family including Three Rock as they fight fire side by side. The whole romance between Bode and Gabz is not in your face (which is nice) but the chemistry between Vince and Sharon is too cute to ignore. The first few episodes are a bit slow as they set the tone but then the show ups the stakes progressively. It is quite intense at times and you can feel the heat (no pun intended) on your face. I love that the show takes the time to scratch beneath the surface for each of its characters and not just the main ones, giving them a certain depth. I didn't expect to like the show as much as I do! But it's quite refreshing and a bit different than your regular crime/cop procedural shows. All I can say is Max Thieriot, who I know from his The Pacifiers time, has done a great job as an EP.
Let me know if y'all have any interesting takes on the show or the characters!

Flyboy | Chapter One
Chapter Two
Prologue: You moved to San Diego for a fresh start. You never imagined your best friend Natasha would end up there on deployment. When she asks you to come meet her at the bar, you weren’t expecting to meet a pilot who would make you question everything you’ve come to know about love.
(This is gonna be pretty much all fluff but who knows, things may escalate later on. I’d like for it to become a multi chapter slow burn).
Roller skating the beach was always your favorite thing to do. The side walks always so smooth. The warm salt air hugging you as you fly. You got a call from Natasha about an hour ago telling you to come meet her at a bar nearby. She just got into town on her assignment. Funny how you’d end up living in the town that she would get called to for her first real mission.
She had been your longest friend. Admittedly your only friend. Somehow managing to maintain the relationship through all the shifts and changes in life. You kept her informed of all the dreams you’d chase and hearts you’d break, and she kept you updated with profiles on all the new characters she’d meet and struggles she’d face in her endeavors. You were excited to see her.
As you rolled up to the bar you gave a good look to the bronco out front. You always had a soft spot for classic cars. Popping off your skates out front and slipping on some flops, you headed in. Music playing, people cheering, drunks falling. Maybe you got here a little late, you feel anxious. Dealing with intoxicated people was always easier if you started at the same time as them.
“Y/n!!” You hear a familiar voice and immediately start scanning to your left. “Hey!” Nat emerges, pushing her way pash a group of guys singing. The piano is roaring, someone really knows how to play.
“Oh my gosh I’ve missed you!” You squeeze her tight. “Wow captain, check out that sexy uniform.” You wink and salute her. Nat pushes you playfully.
“Let’s get you a drink, then I’ll introduce you to the crew I’ll be dealing with for the foreseeable future.” She nods to the bar as she speaks.
You follow Nat, noticing the music die down and the jukebox turn back on. You turn to her, “You know I get anxious meeting new people, maybe I’ll just hang out at the bar for a little.”
“Oh no, you’ll fit in just fine with this group. As if the y/n I’ve known has ever been short on personality.” Nat grabs her drink, and your elbow, and starts dragging you off the barstool. Approaching a group of naval uniforms and one... Hawaiian shirt?
Introductions were made, you taking mental note of one Bradley Bradshaw. You were terrible with names, but somehow this one you doubt you’ll forget, it rolled off the tongue quite nicely. After shaking hands and giving head nods, a tall blonde walks up behind Bradley. An introduction coming your way that Nat didn't get around to, or maybe didn't care about.
“I believe you saved the best for last Pheonix,” he pushes pash Nat with a strong arm outreached your direction. Which you take to shake, and he pulls into kiss. “Names Jake Seresin, call name Hangman.”
”Thaaaaaaats a bit more than I needed for a friendly introduction,” you say as you pull back your hand smugly. Nat chuckles in your direction. “I haven't played pool in a while,” you say raising an eyebrow at Nat.
“Girls vs… boy?” Nat says as she looks around, but hangman seems to be the only one interested in actually playing a game. Rooster back at the bar, and everyone else scattered in conversation. So you agreed to a little cutthroat.
“This ought to be good, hangman, think you can take on both the ladies at once?” Rooster crows as he walks back our direction, handing you a drink, he must have noticed you finished your first one. You felt a little flustered as you took it from his hand. He didn't ask if you wanted another one, nor told you he was getting you anything.
Hangman smirks, “ive always been a ladykiller Roos,” he turns to you, “and, ladies first.”
A scoff comes from Rooster as he goes to drink his beer. Immediately you show competence by breaking with some good force. Pool balls bouncing off every end of the table. You find yourself immediately looking at Bradley, whose one eyebrow you see raise from behind those aviators. Handing the stick to Nat and waiting your turn, you take the seat next to Bradley.
“Do all pilots wear those sunglasses?” You ask.
“They make us faster,” he answers in a playful mannor, “You grew up here?” He asks.
You give a little insight into your life and how you ended up in San Diego as well as get a little intel on the handsome pilot before returning to your game. You immediately start putting pressure on hangman, who guaranteed he’d win.
“So you wont mind agreeing to buy the entire bar a round of drinks if you lose? Since youre so sure youre going to win anyways,” You ask Hangman.
He looks around to the increasingly crowded bar, “Okay. But when you lose, I get a date.” He smiles and leans over the table, handing you back the pool stick.
“HA,” Nat laughs, “She’ll win out of sheer willpower now hangman.”
“Deal,” You agree with a smile. And in no time, you win.
Rooster yells to penny who rings the bell and announces the good news. Everyone cheers. The boys immediately start poking fun at hangman. You laugh and take back your seat next to Bradley. “Good job kid.” He gives you a wink, glasses low on his nose. Butterflies in your tummy? It’s been a while since youve had that feeling. You heard a little bit about him from Nat. All good things, he was a gentleman. She would never consider mixing romance into her work, her and Rooster become good friends over school.
You would be lying if you said you weren’t infatuated. It’s been a long time since you've been interested in anyone. You had to question if it was so smart to crush on someone who not only worked with your best friend, but was in a work field that was so demanding. You never were the type to play into a fling. You were a hopeless romantic, dreams always bigger than reality. You’ve come to know that a heart is a heavy burden.
“I’m heading home, you need a ride?” Nat says.
“No thats okay, you go. I’ll finish my drink then skate home.” You smile back at her reassuringly.
“Really, it’s getting dark. Are you sure?” Nat seems slightly concerned but also she glances over to Rooster who, gives a half smile her way. As if to reassure her that she’s leaving you in good hands.
“I know these roads better than you do and I live close by anyway. I’ll see you tomorrow. Beach day before you start your work week?” You insist.
“That doesn't sound like a bad plan, I’ll call you in the morning.” She smiles and heads out.
“From what I hear, you've got a big week ahead,” you say turning to Bradley. You notice him take off his sunglasses and scoot his chair in closer to you than before. Your heart skips a beat. “Uhm, so are you ready?” You ask.
“I’ve been ready for this. I’ve waited a lot longer than you’d think for an opportunity to prove myself,” his response is filled with confidence.
“Well it sounds like you‘re prepared. Sometimes the best opportunities take the longest to arrive.” You finish your beer, feeling a liiittttlllee tipsy. Thinking about your skates outside on the deck.
“Well isn’t that the truth,” he replies gleaming down at you. “So,” he clears his throat, “I simply can’t let you go home alone in the dark.”
“Oh? Who exactly is ‘letting’ you control anything about my nights narrative?”
“Y/n… may I please drive you home?” He asks sincerely.
“Well, i guess because you asked so nicely…” you smile. Noticing your arms touching together. He smells so good. Are you buzzing from the alcohol or from just simply sitting next to him. “Take me home, flyboy.”
A smile spreads across his face, “I already closed the tab.” Bradley gets up first and slides your chair out for you as you stand. Leading the way through the crowded bar to the door. He waves to Penny, and possibly threw a smirk to hangman who noticed you leaving with him. Opening the door for you, then picking up your skates, he walks towards the bronco.
“This is your bronco!?” You exclaimed as he opens the passenger door. Putting your skates inside on the floor. And then holding out a hand to help you into the truck.
“You excited about that lil lady?” He smiles big.
”Ive always loved Broncos, my dad was always fixing up classic cars when i was a little girl. I was admiring it on my way in!” You grab the handle and jump in eagerly, ignoring his hand out for you. He chuckles and closes the door. You give him directions to your place.
Hand out the window making waves in the air. There’s hardly any conversation on the way. It was a quick drive, but the silence was comforting. Smug. It was one of the oddest things you've ever felt. Filled with the security that only an old friend could offer, but brimmed with the excitement of connecting with a complete stranger. As you pull into the parking lot of your apartment you look at the time on the dashboard. Almost midnight.
You look over at Bradley as he shifts into park. He looks back at you. “Are you hungry?” You ask.
“Actually, I am. What’ve you got in mind?”
“Well, theres a great little 24hr diner about three blocks from here. I think it’d fit the occasion perfectly.”
“Alright,” he grins, taking the keys out of the ignition. “Show me the way.”

“It’s Quaritch.”
Grace’s voice cut through your otherwise quiet lab, rattling you out of your peace by uttering just one name.
“Why?” Was what left your lips first.
Grace closed the door and walked further into your lab before continuing, “Check-in. He’s been doing it monthly, ever since we came to Site 26. Jake’s the one who’s been usually reporting back to him.”
You moved your designs for Project Pandora to the side and out of her sight when she got closer. “What’s changed?” You turned to look at her with furrowed brows before switching to Na’vi, “Is he not his puppet?”
She frowned, giving you one of her scolding parent looks, “He’s changing.” Her scowl hardened when you rolled your eyes before continuing. “And I know you’ve seen it too. And if the both of us have noticed then Quaritch has bound to as well. Why else is he asking for you instead of Jake?”
“Probably to torment me. Let me know that I’m somehow still under his control.” You glared down at your hands that were now clenched together.
“Like a puppet?” Grace asked gently. You didn’t respond. She took another chair in the corner of the room and pulled it up next to you. “Tinkers, listen to me. You gotta stop letting him get in your head.”
“I could say no.” You mumble instead, eyes still on your hands. “That I won’t meet him. Send him a big middle finger while I’m at it.”
Grace snorted, “As much as I want that—and believe me, I do—something tells me we shouldn’t mess with things—”
Your jaw clenched and you shook your head sharply, “If I continue to go back there, to be summoned by him like some lapdog, then I am no better than those soldiers that continue to follow him!”
Grace went quiet as you fought back tears.
No matter what you did to try and move on, to try and not think about it, that night still played over and over again in your mind. Appeared in your dreams—barely sleeping now because of it—it was all still fresh. Like it happened only yesterday instead of two years ago.
You held your head in your hands, tears now streaming down your face, throat closing up as you let out shaky and strained sobs.
“I could’ve stopped him, Grace. I could’ve convinced him—”
“No, no.” The scientist shook her head firmly, grasping your hand tightly in hers. “None of what happened is your fault. Do you hear me?” She then grasped your face so you were looking at her. “Don’t ever blame yourself for what happened. That was on Quaritch and the RDA, not you.” Her thumbs wiped at the tears as she continued in a quieter voice, “We can’t keep living in the past, kiddo. Especially, when the preset is constantly changing before us.”
You nod, sniffling. It took a few minutes for you to calm down. Grace waited right next to you. Her hand resting on your shoulder and giving it a gentle squeeze every now and then. It was a comfort, her presence always was. Until you met Grace Augustine, you never truly knew what a parent’s love was. Not really.
Your mother was always busy building her legacy in science, making sure to make a solid name for herself so that she’d earn great respect. To be looked at in the same light as her other successful male colleagues. There wasn’t anything wrong with that, in fact you admired her greatly for it and it always inspired you to do the same. But the chance of being a mother was never in the cards for her. She was always too busy and worked herself to an early grave. You were sixteen.
Then there was your father. A respected military captain and a longtime friend of Miles Quaritch. Shot himself in the head in his bedroom while you were downstairs, oblivious until the nanny found him hours later. You were nine.
In your father’s letter, he had asked for Quaritch to take you in and help your mother take care of you, to have a father-like figure in your life. You had to laugh at that, really. The damned bastard wasn’t even taking care of his own kid, a fucking baby at that, and yet your father expected him to do the same for you? It was ironic, really.
Quaritch did for a while. Wasn’t perfect at it but he was all you had, so who were you to complain in the beginning.
Then the shut down of Grace’s school happened and it felt as if you had been abandoned all over again.
But Grace found you. She’d always find you.
You chuckled pathetically, wiping at your eyes. “You really don’t have to take care of me like this. I know I can be a lot.”
“Hey, someone has to keep your genius intact. Otherwise who else would be able to keep up with my own genius?” Grace smirked, shaking your shoulders.
With a snort, you smacked her hand away and stood. “I’ll see him.” Grace watched you cautiously and you nodded confidently to yourself. “Yeah, I’ll do it.” Just as you grabbed your mask and radio, you turned back to the redhead woman as she got up as well. “What do you want me to tell him?”
Both of you exited your lab. Norm was sitting next to the link bed where Jake was currently about to get linked up in. Upon the men both noticing you both, Grace switched to Na’vi, “Tell him we’re making progress, nothing more. And if he starts asking questions, just be you and piss him off.”
You frown, “If I do that, he might raid my lab and shut us down.”
“Then find any reason to end the conversation before he starts pushing.” Grace sighed.
“I’ll try, I guess.” You started messing with the radio.
“Where are you going?” Jake asked, as you tried calling Trudy through the radio to pick you up.
With a shrug, you said as you gripped the mask tightly in your other hand, “Well, apparently his little puppet isn’t cutting it anymore, so Quaritch wants to see me.”
Jake straightened, staring at you with a mixture of disbelief and perhaps worry, “Wait, what? What does he want with you? Why didn’t he just request to see me like he always does?”
“What do you mean by puppet?” Norm asked instead, glancing between you and Jake curiously. “Is that like some strange sexual innuendo that I’m not getting?”
You roll your eyes and decide to focus on the radio as Grace replies instead, “Norm, you think you can take over lessons for Jake today?”
“Yeah, sure.” You heard him mutter while the radio came to life with Trudy’s voice.
After a few minutes of conversation, you finally turned back to the others, “Trudy will be here in twenty. She’s sending a helicopter.”
“Doc.” Jake called, trying to catch your eye. When you allowed yourself to meet his gaze he spoke to you softly in Na’vi. “Are you sure about this?”
You try not to look impressed, “You’ve gotten better, Puppet. But of course it’s because of me , so I’m not surprised.” Making a joke and forcing a smile was what kept you from breaking down into tears again.
Fortunately, Grace changed the subject, “Come on, Marine. Time to get going. I’m sure she’s waiting on you.”
Reluctantly, after breaking gazes, Jake finally lied down as Grace got him linked up.
Norm turned to you, brows raised curiously, “Why does the Colonel want to see you?”
You sighed, “Honestly, I really don’t give a shit.”
“Atta girl.” Grace grinned.
The cafeteria was empty save for you and Quaritch. He was already sitting when you entered and sat down at the table with him. You always felt small around him, like you were still this little girl looking up at him, intimidated by him. Instead of allowing him to see that, you willed your face into a blank mask and frowned at him, waiting for him to ask the questions.
“Corporal tells me you’ve been doing a good job training him.” He hummed casually, crossing his bulky arms. “I trust that means things are going well then?”
You shrugged, “I suppose. But that’s up to the Na’vi to decide if he’s one of them. Not me.”
He snorted while leaning back in his seat, “Well then what’s takin’ them so long? Those paranoid fuckers have no reason not to trust him, right? So what’s the hold up?”
“They won’t just let anyone into the clan.” You tried reasoning through gritted teeth. “It’s bad enough they don’t trust us as it is—with good reason—imagine how it would look if we were to rush their process.”
For a few moments, he watched you in both observation and disbelief. You waited, not once breaking his stare. If you were to look away, then he would know you were holding something back, hiding from him. He has a way of picking you apart. Sometimes.
“Why is it that you defend those savages? Over your own race?” Quaritch asked you as if it was a difficult concept to believe, almost as if you had betrayed him and he was trying to understand why that was.
He didn’t know what betrayal was. Not yet at least. But perhaps you had betrayed him long ago, ever since you first thought up Project Pandora.
“This isn’t our home.” You say simply, noticing his jaw tightening as you said that. “We are the trespassers. We are the infestation to them. Demons. We’ve practically destroyed parts of their home. It’s no wonder they don’t like us.”
Quaritch still watched you, keenly. “And are you filling Jake Sully’s head with this nonsense? Is that why Dr. Augustine had him carted away and out of my reach, so you all can fill his head with horseshit? Turn him against me?”
“Is that why you asked me here?”
“I’m just lookin out for you, kiddo. Wouldn’t want you ending up on the wrong side of this war.”
Your brows furrowed, “You think there’s going to be a war? Why would there be war?”
Quaritch shrugged, “Depends on Sully. If things go our way, then we can avoid any more mess that could possibly come if it doesn’t go our way.”
Depends on Sully? What did that mean? Was there more to why Quaritch tasked Jake to infiltrate the Omatikaya? Of course you always suspected there was but you never really had enough to go on. But now that Quaritch was alluding to it, whatever he asked Jake to do, now you were worried. Now you were angry.
“Do you even care about me?”
The question threw him off, even you were startled by it. It wasn’t what you initially wanted to say but this somehow slipped out instead of the angry rant you wanted to throw his way.
Quaritch then glared, “That’s not what we’re here to talk about—”
But you kept going, “Do you care about anything other than yourself or your obsessive need to take over a planet that doesn’t even belong to you? Do you even care for your newborn son—”
“That’s enough, Doc—”
“You never talk about him. So I just assumed he was dead or that you just didn’t give a rat’s ass about him—”
“I said that’s enough—”
“You claim you’re trying to look out for me, that you don’t want me on the wrong side of the war. Is that you actually trying to be some type of father or am I just another obstacle in your way—”
The slam came before you saw his hand hit the table.
“ENOUGH!”
Quaritch was now standing, scowling down at you. Yu refused to be afraid of him, you refused to cower away. The tears in your eyes was that of anger, not fear. You hoped he knew that. Though, you weren’t entirely sure if you were trying to convince him or yourself.
He pointed at you calmly, “I’m not your father, kid. Your father is long dead. And you are a grown woman. If you want to be reckless and get yourself fucking killed then so be it. I won’t even fucking blink. You hear me?”
Your silence made him falter. Your glassy eyes made him look away from you.
The silence was deafening. Quaritch paced away, back now facing you.
“You are dismissed.”
This was a bad idea. You knew this. And yet you still came anyway. For Grace, for the Avatar Program, hell even for Jake.
You just hoped it was worth it. You really did.
When you got back Jake was still in the link bed. Norm seemed to have a better attitude these days and was helping Grace out. She must’ve given him a talk and it seemed to have worked out for the better.
You were quiet and didn’t bother to say anything when you arrived back. Grace noticed your change and immediately ordered you to the back where the beds were. You would’ve protested and said you would be better keeping yourself busy in the lab but Grace insisted. Norm didn’t ask any questions. Thank Eywa for that.
So now, you were just lying in bed either staring at the ceiling lost in thought or trying your very best to not doze off to sleep. Really, as soon as your head hit the pillow—one you hadn’t touched in weeks—your body instantly felt like taking a long overdue rest.
Usually you have avoided any type of sleep, scared of revisiting the same nightmares you’ve been having for two years now. But perhaps this time you would allow it to come. You would not fight it.
Really, fighting was the last thing you wanted to do at that moment.
“You’re back.”
You turned your head to find Jake entering the room, rolling toward the beds himself. You gave a tired smile in return, “I’m back.”
Jake tilted his head, eyes narrowing, “Have you been crying?”
There wasn’t a point to lying but there also wasn’t any point in admitting he was right either. Instead, you buried your face into your pillow and mumbled out a “Maybe.”
For a while, the two of you didn’t say anything. You heard him roll up next to your bed but you refused to look at him, knowing that if you did you’d probably cry all over again. Crying in front of him was the last thing you wanted to do, especially when you didn’t know where you stood with him right now.
Was he on your side? Was he still working with Quaritch? You thought you knew the answer before. But now…
A larger hand came to rest on the side of your head, surprising you so much you allowed yourself to look up from your pillow to meet Jake’s eyes. And see his face contorted into what looked like anger.
His hand was warm and his thumb gently wiped at the corners of your eye before caressing the side of your cheek. And then he spoke in a lowered voice.
“Next time, I talk to him.” You furrow your brows. His thumb gently rubbed around your cheek. “Alright? I go, not you.”
You wanted to ask him then and there.
Who’s side are you on? And should I trust you?
But you trusted Grace. And she believed he was changing.
So, you have to believe it too.
You weaved your fingers with the hand resting against your cheek and closed your eyes, “I can take care of myself, you know.”
He chuckled, his cool breath fanning against your eyelashes as he did. You hadn’t realized he was that close until now. “Believe me, I know. But I got myself involved with him. It’s my job to handle Quaritch. That includes keeping you away from him.”
Now it was your turn to chuckle, “Since when do you care what Quaritch does to me?”
There was pause before you heard him utter quietly, barely audible.
“He made you cry.”
You kept your eyes closed and your hand on his. If you were to move, this moment would be gone. Possibly never come back, never addressed again.
Right now you wouldn’t think about that. All you focused on was the now.
Just as you were slowly dozing off, Jake spoke, “Tomorrow Grace’s taking her avatar out to the village.”
“Mmm.”
“You should come.”
A smile tugged at your lips, “I haven’t used mine in a while. M’could be too rusty.”
You heard him laugh softly, “I can show you the basics. I’m sure you’re probably better at navigating it than me….”
Jake stopped when he noticed the way your breaths slowed down in a steady pace and how your eyes were now fluttering close with your grip on his hand loosening.
Smiling softly, he carefully took his hand away from your face and instead pulled the blanket over your body.
He sighed while looking at your sleeping form.
“What are you doing to me, Doc?”

✧ “bye, softie jr.”
Rosa Diaz x teen daughter! reader
warnings: the squad being their usual chaotic selves & rosa being an (over) protective mama. (i love rosa being soft, lol)
in which, the 99 finally meets y/n. unplanned.
continuation to “you’re a softie”
You always wondered how it was possible that no one on the squad’s somehow run into you while you were out with Rosa. Your Mom’s somehow never run into her colleagues outside of work, while she was with you, at least. Due to your closeness in age, the two of you have been mistaken for siblings on many occasions. And on this fine day, you had a first date gone…bad and needed keys to get home. But you left them at home since you left home the same time as Rosa that day to go to school. After school let out at 2:30, you went to lunch with Amelia from your Social Studies class. She was nice, and you liked her- but at the end of the lunch, you’ve come to realise you didn’t actually like her the way you thought you did. Being a 15-minute walk away from the precinct, you decided to use the fact that you needed the house keys as an excuse to mess with her. She wasn’t against you meeting them, thus you your decision to go to the 9-9. Stepping out of the elevator and entering the bullpen, you headed straight for Rosa’s desk barely having to look where you were going.
“Been expecting you. How was the date?”
“Fine, but that was also the last.” You told her and she pulls the one earbud you had in, off. Just for the heck of it.
“Why? Did they do anything-”
“No, I just don’t really vibe with her at all, that’s all. I’m perfectly fine.” You assured.
“Good.”
“I need your keys. Forgot to grab mine since we left together this morning.”
You could feel the eyes on you but you tried to ignore them.
“Here.” She opens up her drawer to get them, “Be home when I’m home. Otherwise, I can’t get in.”
“Of course.” You stifled a laugh, “What time do you clock out?”
“From the looks of it, 6:30? Maybe 7. I’ll pick up dinner on the way, how’s that?”
“That’s great.” You gave her a big smile on purpose just to see how she’d react.
“Hey, Rosa.” Amy says as she walked by you, “Wait—” She stops in her tracks and turned on her heels to take a good look. By now, everyone Rosa worked with was watching. Amy was the last one.
“Who’s this, Roro?” Charles asked.
“Call me that again and I’ll burn your sourdough starter to a crisp.” Rosa threatened. You let a laugh slip- you simply couldn’t take her seriously. She wasn’t like this with you at all- this was an act.
“She looks like she could be your sister.” Terry noted.
“Nope.” Rosa answered, “Try again.” You and Rosa shared a glance. Truthfully, the answer could not have been more obvious if it weren’t for the close age gap. You were pretty much a spitting image of your Mother— thank goodness.
“No way- it can’t be.” Jake broke the silence. Amy analysed Rosa’s face then yours, noting that the two of you had your arms crossed the same, with the same expressions on your face. Even the way you were dressed- heavily influenced by Rosa’s style. A light bulb went off in her mind.
“Rosa, I cannot believe this- you have a teenage daughter and this is first time we’re meeting her?!”
Terry’s mouthful of yogurt felt like it got caught in his throat, Charles nearly spilled his coffee all over himself, Jake’s bag of gummies and jellybeans fell from his hand and hilariously scattered all over the floor. Hitchcock and Scully? As clueless as ever. Solely focused on their bags of chips. Oh, and Gina who immediately snapped a photo of you two side by side. There was pin drop silence in the bullpen up until Holt came out to check on his squad. “Why is it so quiet? This is extremely unlike your usual selves.” He remarked, then he quickly spotted an unfamiliar person— you standing by Rosa’s desk. Now, it got awkward.
“They’ve just met my daughter and they’re shocked.” Rosa informs him.
“I see.” He nodded emotionlessly, “Nice to meet you, y/n.”
“Captain Holt. Likewise.” You gave him a polite smile.
“Everybody, get back to work.” He ordered. The buzz continues. “Will you guys wait until I’ve at least left the precinct to talk about me?” You sassed.
“How old are you?” Jake asked.
“17.”
“Damn. Respect, Rosa.” Jake’s eyes widened, “You were 18?!”
“Okay, that’s it. You guys already know too much.” Rosa decided, “No more questions. y/n, go home.”
“Yes, ma’am.” You joked.
“Stop it.” She said back, acting cracking a smile.
“Boy, I haven’t seen you this close to smiling since never.” Jake commented.
“I heard you had a date? Who’s the lucky guy?” Boyle asks.
“Charles, right?” You cleared your throat, “I’m a lesbian, so there was no guy.”
“Oh. I- I am so sorry.” He stutters.
“Why are you afraid of a 17-year old?” Rosa snorted.
“Why isn’t she afraid of you?” Charles retorted before he even thought it through.
“I am loving this.” Gina sighs.
“Why would she need to be? We’re practically best friends.” She shrugged. Now, they were even more curious about how Rosa was like outside of work. “Okay, you need to get home.”
“I’m going, I’m going. I know.” You sigh, throwing your hands up in mock defeat, “You’ll pick up my prescription?”
“I remember, y/n, yes.”
The squad says bye to you as you turned to leave. In retrospect, you could’ve easily passed some time at the nearby library and did some work but you weren’t going to pass up the opportunity to meet her friends officially.
“Byeee, softie…junior.” Jake called out, causing you to laugh as you hit the elevator button.

Boys Are Jerks
Pairing - Jake 'Hangman' Seresin x daughter!reader
Word count - 3,309
Warnings - swearing, teenagers being assholes, protective Hangman, Rooster & Coyote, angst
Summary - You get asked out as a dare by a boy in your grade, unfortunately for him and his friends, you have an overprotective father & squad of naval aviators behind you
A/N - hey y'all I strike once more with a new fic! This was an anon request but with the love 'Hangman junior' got I was bound to write a new fic at some point (I have some ideas for more of this universe). As per y'all, please send in requests, feedback and enjoy!!!
People would always say you were a carbon copy of your father, Jake Seresin, and you more often than not you found yourself agreeing. You shared the same wit and personality. But the thing that really proved you were your father’s daughter, was that you caught boy’s attention the same way your dad caught the attention of women. You never asked for it, but it was always thoroughly entertaining to see the various ways boys would try to get your attention. Despite you having the choice of most of the boys in your grade at school you had your eye on one guy in your grade. Liam Clark was one of the most popular guys in your grade. He was good-looking and captain of the football team. He was one of the only guys not constantly hitting on you, so you figured he wasn’t interested and so just minded your own business while admiring him from afar.
One day however, when you were at school, you were getting books from your lockers when Liam popped up behind you, asking your friends if he could talk to you alone. Your friends were hesitant at first, but you reassured them that you’d be fine and catch up with them in a bit. When your friends left the two of you in peace, he leant against the locker next to yours and glanced down at you.
“So, can I help you with something?” You ask lightly, closing your locker after you’ve gathered the books you need.
“You can actually. I wanted to ask you if you wanted to go out on a date sometime? You’re pretty cute and I’d love to get to know you more.” He asks coolly, his lips turning up into a smirk when he notices the blush covering your cheeks.
“Uh… yeah! I’d love to!” You manage to say after being rendered speechless for a couple of seconds.
“Great. Does Friday work?” He asks, raising an eyebrow as you nod. At your agreement he nods and tells you he’ll message you on Instagram later with more details before backing away and heading off to his next class, leaving you a blushing mess.
Nearing the end of the school day it was finally sinking in that Liam asked you on a date and you were buzzing. You couldn’t believe it and you just couldn’t wait for Friday to come. When you got home that day, your dad instantly noticed that you were happy and asked you what got you in such a good mood.
“I just had a good day today that was all.” You replied with a grin before heading upstairs to do your homework and wait for Liam to message you.
The next day felt like it flew by. It was Thursday which meant tomorrow was the day you had your date with Liam, and you just couldn’t wait. He’d been telling you about a nice diner along the seafront which sounded great to you. At the end of the day, you made your way to your locker to put your books away after the final bell and you were already planning how to convince your dad to let you go out. Maybe you’d speak to Phoenix and Bob, and they’d help you talk to your dad about it. As you neared your locker you walked past an empty classroom and heard the familiar voice of Liam and his friends as they laughed.
“I still can’t believe it was that easy to convince her to go on a date.” Liam laughs as he folds his arms across his chest, being jostled by his friends as they laugh too.
“Just gotta get her to admit she likes you and get that kiss and the twenty bucks are yours.” One of his friends says and your heart drops into your stomach at the realisation of what was going on. You were a fucking bet.
“Weren’t you saying her dad’s one of those Navy guys, right? So I bet she’s never had her first kiss, so you really have to pull out the ‘nice guy’ act. Maybe if you meet her dad you have to be all ‘yes sir, no sir’ with him.” Another one of his friends teases, all of them mockingly saluting and jostling each other as they laugh again. Just as you decide to move away from the door, you get noticed.
“Seems we have some company.” Someone points out, every guy in the room turning to face you as you fight back the tears that threaten to build.
“I guess she heard all that?” Another guy says, pushing Liam forward to speak as he laughs and tells his friends to quieten down.
“I mean I don’t know what you expect me to say, y/n. Did you really think I would really go out with someone like you?” He scoffs, biting back a grin as his friends make comments behind him.
“He’s not wrong, Seresin. He’s captain of the football team and you’re just… well there’s no way to describe you is there.” One of the guys says as he claps Liam on the back.
“Fuck you.” You manage to spit out before turning on your heels and retreating. You shoved your books away before rushing out of the school building and making your way home as quickly as you could while tears began to blur your vision. When you finally reached your house, you were relieved to see your dad’s truck wasn’t in the driveway which meant he was still at Top Gun, and you wouldn’t have to deal with his questions. You enter the house quickly, slamming the door behind you before kicking your shoes off and darting upstairs. The second you reach your room you abandon your bag on the floor and curl up on your bed, sobbing into your pillow as the words that Liam and his friends said swim around your head. You pulled your spare pillow over your head as if that would protect your brain from the cruel thoughts that were beginning to seep into your brain. You cry until you physically can’t anymore and just as the tears start to slow you hear your phone buzz. You move the pillow from on top of your head and pick up your phone, seeing a text from your dad.
‘Hey y/n/n. We’re all at the Hard Deck so you’re free to come down whenever.’
As you read the message you were tempted to say you weren’t feeling great and wasn’t feeling up to a trip to the Hard Deck, but this was a weekly thing you did with your dad and Dagger Squad, and you figured if anyone on the planet could make you feel better it would be your dad and his team. You send him a message, saying that you were just going to freshen up and then you’d be on your way. You head into the bathroom and splash your face with cold water to make it look less like you’ve just been bawling your eyes out and once you were confident that you looked okay, you grabbed your phone and head back downstairs to put your shoes on and head to the Hard Deck.
When you arrive at the Hard Deck you take a deep breath before you head into the bar and immediately locate your dad and his team. They were, as usual, around the pool table and dart board and you made your way over to them giving them a small smile when they noticed you. Coyote immediately brought you into a hug and ruffled your hair like he always did but he failed to get anything other that a half smile and a weak hug back. When Rooster greeted you, he got a similar treatment, you gave him a weak hug and greeted him quietly. It seemed to be how you were greeting everyone, even Hangman when he returned from the bar with drinks. The gathered members of Dagger Squad talk amongst each other as you sit at a table with Bob. Bob tried to make conversation with you but when he was met with no reply, he just fell silent too. He didn’t want to leave you sitting alone so he just remained by your side, silently offering his support. Eventually, you grew thirsty and got up, first crossing to your dad.
“Hey dad, I’m pretty thirsty so I’m just going to grab a drink from Penny.” You say, standing in front of your dad as he takes his shot at the dart board.
“Okay, kid. Just stay in our sight, okay? Make sure at least one Dagger can see you.” He says and you merely nod and walk away as Jake raises an eyebrow. Usually, you groaned and sassed back that you heard that sentence every time you were at the Hard Deck. Without fail, he would always tell you to remain in the sight of at least one person from Dagger Squad just in case Penny was occupied with serving other people in the bar. And without fail when he told you this, you would roll your eyes and say he already told you a thousand times. He was worried about the way you were acting and from the expressions of his teammates, they were equally as worried as he was.
When you made it to the bar, you waited patiently for Penny to get around to you and when she did you ordered a lemonade, not bothering to argue when she tells you it was going on your dad’s tab. You used to argue back, saying that you could afford a drink, but both your dad and Penny said you didn’t need to be paying for that when he’s around. As you waited for Penny to make the drink, you heard some people enter the bar and the second you turned to see who it was out of curiosity, you regretted your action.
“Hey look, it’s Seresin.”
Upon hearing his last name being yelled across the bar, Jake perked up. He glanced over his shoulder, expecting to see some of the new Top Gun recruits that he was instructing. Some of them were worse than he used to be and would happily call him by his surname rather than his rank or callsign. When he didn’t catch a glimpse of anyone familiar, he was about to turn around, assuming whoever called out would come over to him eventually but just as he was about to turn back around, he caught a glimpse of you by the bar being hounded by a group of boys who looked to be about your age. They were laughing and jokingly shoving each other, and you looked like you wanted to cry and that alone shoved Jake into dad mode.
“Rooster. Coyote. Come here.” Jake says quickly, getting his friend's attention and heading over to the group of boys with Coyote and Rooster hot on his heels after noticing what was going on.
“What’s going on here?” Jake asks when he reaches you, the three men standing protectively by your side.
“Nothing, dad. It’s fine.” You try to say, knowing if your dad interferes the teasing will just get worse since Liam and his friends will think you can’t stand up for yourself.
“It’s clearly not fine now what the fuck is going on?” Jake demands, glaring at the boys in front of you. You were unsurprised to see that the boys were not at all intimidated by your dad, Rooster, and Coyote standing in front of them. Any other person would be terrified to be stared down by three of the Navy’s best pilots, but like any teenage boy Liam and his friends thought they were invincible.
“It’s between us and her, so why don’t you mind your own business.” Liam says with a roll of his eyes as the three aviators share a look.
“You made it our business when you messed with y/n.” Coyote says lowly, taking a step closer to the boys before being pulled back by your dad.
“I mean if you’re all that desperate to know then I guess I can tell you. We bet Liam here twenty bucks that he couldn’t take y/n out on a date and get her to admit she liked him and kissed him by the end of the date. She overheard us at the end of school today and she ran off crying. Pretty pathetic if you ask me.” One of Liam’s friends explains with a proud smile on his face, the others gathered laughing as the aviators clench their jaws in an attempt to stop themselves from punching them. You felt your eyes well up with tears when the explanation is said, and you feel a gentle hand on your shoulder, and you look up to see Rooster looking down at you softly. He gives you a gentle smile of reassurance before he turns back to the group of teenagers.
“You look familiar.” Rooster states calmly, looking Liam up and down before thinking to himself for a minute.
“Yeah, you’re definitely familiar. I’m sure I saw you the morning we boarded the carrier before we shipped out for the uranium mission.” Rooster continues, smirking to himself when he sees Liam and his friends grow worried. Most kids around here were the children of Navy personnel and on days when they’d ship out, families would be surrounding their loved ones, wishing for them to come home safely. Hangman and Coyote caught on to what Rooster was talking about and they all began to think of who Liam’s parent could be.
“I got it! It’s Captain Clark, right?” Coyote says the moment the name comes to mind, and everyone notices Liam’s face paling at his words.
“I know him. I’m sure he won’t be pleased to hear that his prized son we hear him bragging about has been acting like an asshole.” Rooster says with a smirk, folding his arms across his chest as the boy's exchange worried looks with each other.
“Please don’t tell him. I’m sorry!” Liam pleads, making the aviators scoff lightly to themselves at how quickly he begged for forgiveness.
“What’s going on here?” Penny asks after noticing the commotion. She didn’t miss the way the three aviators had strategically placed themselves protectively around you and the boys in front of them seemed to be around your age.
“One of these asshats decided it would be funny to ask our y/n out as a joke for a quick buck. I don’t know about you Penny, but I don’t take kindly to people who treat my daughter like that.” Jake says, not removing his glare from the teenagers who are shrinking more and more under the intense gaze.
“Well then. Fellas, would you do me the pleasure of escorting these boys off the premises? And you lot are not to come back.” Penny says, first to Hangman, Rooster, and Coyote before directing her last sentence at the boys who nod quickly and allow the naval aviators to shepherd them out of the Hard Deck. As they do that, you take your drink and make your way to a quiet table in the corner of the bar, but still in sight of Dagger Squad who watch you worriedly.
When the aviators made it outside the bar, they stood opposite the teenagers for a moment, staring them down one more time.
“Don’t ever let me find out about anything like this again.” Jake growls lowly, his protectiveness over you glaringly obvious as he stares down at Liam.
“If I ever hear about you guys treating her like shit again, you’re not going to like the person I become.” Rooster follows up and Jake looks over at him, his jaw dropping slightly and a faint blush coating his cheeks when he sees the fire of protectiveness shining in Rooster’s eyes. Jake knew Bradley had no reason to care about you, yet he did. He’d only known you since that evening in the bar before training for the uranium mission began but you’d formed a tight bond with him, and it made Jake happy which he had never expected when he first discovered Rooster had been called back too. After Rooster takes a step back from the teens, they scamper away with their tails in between their legs.
“Teenagers.” Coyote scoffs, clapping both men on the shoulder before turning around and heading back into the Hard Deck. Rooster and Hangman share an amused look before turning around to head back into the Hard Deck too. When Jake locates you, his hard expression softens when he notices your heartbroken expression as you stirred the straw in your drink half-heartedly. He excused himself from Bradley and the others and made his way over to you.
“Hey, sweetheart.” Jake says softly as he eases himself into the seat next to you.
“Hi, dad.” You reply, not even looking his way and your voice monotone. Just as he opens his mouth to talk you beat him to it.
“Don’t you dare ask me if I’m okay.” You continue, your voice cracking as you fight back tears from rolling down your cheeks.
“I wasn’t going to.” He was lying. He wanted to see if you were okay after what just happened but clearly, you weren’t, and it broke his heart.
“C’mon, let’s step outside for a few. It’s quieter.” Jake says, gesturing for you to follow him outside which you do reluctantly. Once you exit the bar, Jake leads you down to the beach, sitting on the wall and staring out across the ocean as you mimic his actions.
“I’m sorry those dicks did that to you. You deserve better than that.” Jake starts, his voice gentle as he speaks as you bite your bottom lip to fight back the tears.
“I really liked him, dad.” You admit in a whisper, the tears now dribbling down your cheeks just as Jake turns his head to look at you, causing him to pull you into his side and wraps both arms around you protectively.
“I just don’t understand why they did that.” You mumble against your dad’s shoulder, your arms wrapping around his middle to cuddle closer.
“Because boys are jerks, that’s why.” Jake says, a small smile appearing when you release a small breathy laugh at his words.
“Listen to me, sweetheart. Boys do stuff like that because they’re dumb idiots. They just don’t know how beautiful and amazing you really are. y/n/n, you are so loved, and you’ll always have me and the Daggers around. And one day you’ll find someone who likes you as much as you like them. And I’ll really want to hate them, but I can’t because I’ll be able to see how much they love you.” Jake continues, rubbing a hand up and down your back to help you calm down slightly.
“You better not scare any potential boyfriends away, dad.” You say, moving away slightly to look your dad in the eyes as he shrugs and grins.
“I’m your dad. It’s my job to do that. And it won’t just be me, you know? All of Dagger Squad, even Mav will be doing it. Because we love you so much.” Jake says, tugging you back into his arms as he chuckles at your light groan. You knew your dad and his team would absolutely do their best to scare anyone away because of how protective they are. You knew they were doing it out of love and that you could always rely on them, no matter what.
Your dad and Dagger Squad were the most overprotective people you had ever met in your life, but you wouldn’t change them for the world. Especially when they had your back with things like boy problems.

0. NEVER LISTEN TO OR BELIEVE THE WORDS OF BOYS
A breakup?
It was probably one of the last things Haerin could have imagined on such a beautiful spring day.
The same morning she had gotten ready as usual, a pretty cute outfit while remaining classic enough not to receive comments from the boys while her hair was done in two braids falling on her shoulders. Without forgetting her usual pair of glasses that she had to wear every day.
The young girl had never really known love, it was true that this was her first relationship with a boy, and more precisely with Park Sunghoon, one of the members of the hockey team. Which was equal to being one of the most popular boys in high school.
And being one of the most popular students meant that the girls were interested in her boyfriend. After all, he had all the qualities for young students to have feelings or simply the desire to be close to him. Which had always made the young man laugh, but not his girlfriend.
Haerin knew nothing about love except what she had seen in her many series, many dramas she had watched over the years. But never, no, never had she expected something so violent, so painful in her chest. This urge to cry had directly invaded her and she had believed that she would never be able to listen to Sunghoon's words.
Park sunghoon was just an asshole. even if she didn't want to admit it to herself, she meant it.
"Listen Haerin I don't even know who told you that stuff but it's completely wrong!" Sunghoon seemed genuinely annoyed by the girl's behavior.
"Completely wrong? Sunghoon every day I hear your name come out in girls' conversations I know they like you. I.. I don't want our relationship to remain hidden any longer.."
"Sweet heart you know why I don't want our relationship to be known to everyone. You risk being insulted or even hated by all the other girls.."
"And if ever one of them came to see you to take my place what would you do?" The girl had tears in her eyes, forcing herself not to cry in front of her boyfriend. "What would you do in this situation Sunghoon tell me."
"What would you think if another girl suddenly appeared in the hallway I would accept her as my girlfriend?"
At the same time footsteps were heard, almost breaking the conversation Kim Chaewon had just appeared in the hallway. Almost like it was all foretold, it was all written that way, and therefore it revealed the truth through the words or rather the lies that Sunghoon could tell from the beginning.
"Sunghoon darling I've been waiting for you since a while ago.. I thought you left right after your training but I ran into Heeseung and he told me that I could have found you here.." Chaewon uttered that without even paying attention to Haerin, just before turning his head towards her. "May I know what you are doing here, and why are you talking with my boyfriend?"
"Y-your boyfriend?"
"Chaewon wait for me outside you want.. I need to tell him a few things and then we can do what you want"
It was in a heavy silence that the young girl had left the two young teenagers without really understanding what could be happening.
Haerin, on the other hand, felt like an idiot. How could she believe the words of the young brunette when this young girl had just arrived in the hallway calling him as her boyfriend? Her heart was starting to hurt her.
She was beginning to understand what had happened.
She didn't even need to hear the words of her "boyfriend" anymore, having already understood everything, she no longer had the strength for anything.
A silence was born in the corridors where they were, as if none of them intended to continue the conversation.
But Haerin needed an answer.
She needed to reassure herself about all this.
And above all she needed to understand who this young girl was for Sunghoon.
Of course she knew Chaewon, she was one of her classmates who was on one of the most popular, but she would never have believed that. She didn't want to believe it. Not believing it until Sunghoon told him the truth.
"Can you explain that to me then Sunghoon? Why did she just call you darling or even boyfriend?" Small tears had just flowed down her cheeks. "Don't tell me it's because of her that you didn't want our relationship to be shown in high school? It's because of her that you didn't want to do anything, right? Who is she Sunghoon?
A sigh left the lips of the young man who unfortunately understood the situation. He couldn't hide anything anymore. It was too late and all because of his real girlfriend who had come down the hall. Sunghoon couldn't lie anymore he had to tell the truth.
"Haerin listen to me.. I know what you think and unfortunately it's true. Chaewon and I have been together for a few months now and I couldn't talk to you to end our relationship.. I.. I didn't want to make you suffer I knew I was your first relationship.. but now I think I have no choice.."
Sunghoon's voice was way too calm for the current situation, how could he say that so calmly when Haerin was in pain? That he was breaking her heart?
"So for months you cheated on me with her?" She couldn't hide her sadness anymore and it could be heard in her broken voice and it could be seen in the tears streaming down her cheeks. "Sunghoon I would have much preferred you to leave me at the right time rather than cheating on me with her and let me know that way. It hurts my heart so much. I don't even want to talk to you or continue this conversation."
Leaving Sunghoon and leaving him alone in the hallway she let all her tears flow, the sounds of her sobs could be heard throughout the hallway.
"Don't even think about coming to see me Sunghoon from now on I don't want to have any contact with you anymore.. stay away from me.."
It was the last sentence she said to Sunghoon and was certainly the last sentence he heard from her when she finally left the hallway.
Running in the corridors she did not even look where she was going, only trying to leave the building to go home and lock herself in her room. Tears continuing to run down her cheeks she couldn't even see where she was going, her vision slowly starting to blur.
His heart ached.
Sunghoon had broken his heart.
She didn't want to hear from him anymore.
His helmet on his ears, his hands in his pockets Heeseung didn't even have to look where he was going, this road he did every day and it's not now that he was going to forget it.
His feet seemed to move on their own.
Getting carried away by his music he closed his eyes from time to time while he seemed to be humming.
At this time most people were present in the corridor so he had a certain freedom from that.
A smile appeared on his lips as he soon arrived at his destination.
The boys' locker rooms weren't far away.
Unfortunately he was blocked by something.
Well, something had hit him.
No, not something but someone.
Not having looked where she was going Haerin had directly come into contact with Heeseung's chest, falling the second after on the buttocks while letting out a cry.
In addition to being crying, something she hated, she had just been seen by one of Sunghoon's friends. Hockey team captain Lee Heeseung.
Oh god this situation was embarrassing.
But still, she couldn't stop crying. Catching Heeseung's gaze as he took off his helmet, she burst into tears, remaining in that position, sitting on the cold hallway floor.
She couldn't stop crying, she almost felt sick to her stomach even more than a few seconds ago.
Heeseung did not even have time to understand that he was directly posed next to the girl he only knew by sight, trying to understand the situation that had occurred before. Even if in reality he had to know it a little since he had seen him with Sunghoon when he had left the locker room earlier in the day.
"Sunghoon.. he's just an idiot.."
The girl's voice had just come through, her voice oddly flat and broken. Heeseung didn't know what to say, unfortunately not having the ability to comfort people in difficult times.
"And why so? Did he do something to you?"
Without any noise, except that of her sobs, she had nodded.
A positive response.
Heeseung could therefore understand that it was his fault that the girl was like that.
"I have the right to know that he did to you?" Noticing that the two teenagers were sitting on the ground he sat up before reaching out his hand to help him up. "Come on, get up and explain the situation to me right after, okay?"
Again in a rather strange silence she accepted and found herself just afterwards with Heeseung in the corridors, explaining to him then the previous situation.
And strangely her tears had finally diminished.
Explaining her situation as she went along to the young man, Haerin didn't know much about Heeseung she couldn't lie to herself but there was one thing she knew about him, he was listening no matter what. So she could confide in him, but she would never have imagined that he would say that to her.
"Sunghoon is just an idiot who doesn't realize what he's got and prefers to play with something else.. his romantic relationships aren't the most innocent."
"What do you mean by that ?" Turning her gaze to him she waited for answers to understand what he wanted to talk about.
"Sunghoon doesn't respect his girlfriends, I think you must have noticed, right?"
She didn't need to answer he knew he was right, Sunghoon doesn't respect girls, especially not his girlfriends.
The two young teenagers continued this discussion as they walked. Heeseung always having to go to the level of the locker rooms, his two there had therefore headed towards this place.
As the discussion progressed, the girl began to learn a lot about the young boy she had considered to be her boyfriend, and thanks to Heeseung she could tell, Sunghoon was just an asshole.
Finally arriving in the locker room Heeseung allowed Haerin to follow him, after all no one was present there at that time so it was not a problem.
This feeling slightly uncomfortable she had therefore followed him and, after he put his bag on the bench right next to the lockers and opened his locker to retrieve what he wanted he turned to the young girl .
"You know, love is not easy."
"I believe you Heeseung.. it was just my first relationship, I don't know anything about love.."
"Nothing at all ?" She nodded her head in the negative, which let a slight smile appear on the young man's lips. "Well if you need advice or things to know I can help you."
Picking up his things so as not to stay in this place, he hastened to leave the room to finally leave high school and be able to return home.
"Love is not easy and has a lot of secrets you know.. it's not something that is known one hundred percent but if I can offer you something that's it. If the love to its secrets I will be ready to show them all to you, to tell you all and to bring them all to life."
Haerin's heart skipped a beat.
How could he say that while remaining calm?
Did he know what he was really saying or was he just joking?
No, looking at him it was not possible, the tone of his voice was way too serious.
So why did he just say that?
"So, what do you think about it?"
Seeing that she still did not answer, and that they had just arrived in front of the school gate, he took out a pen and tore up a piece of paper to write down his number and handed it to her.
"Here, take this and you can tell me your answer in a few days, I'll let you think about it." A soft smile appeared on his lips "But think about it, love has a lot of secrets you know.. and since you don't know anything about it, it's a subject you don't know, I can show you all its secrets. To help you know more about love so that you can finally understand Sunghoon's behavior."
First chapter, it starts like this I hope you like it haha ^^

Hold The Line
Platonic Jake 'Hangman' Seresin x OC/Reader
Summary: Jake presses his lips together as he lets out a sigh. He leans forward on the railing again, eyes once more following the little boy who was quite happily playing by himself in the sand. “I just thought that Baby Goose deserved to grow up knowing his dad.”
Warnings: mentions of burning in, jake thought process centric lol
Notes: this is a companion piece to my fic Meet You All The Way, focusing on Jake's friendship with reader and most importantly his duties as Uncle Jake. its not overly necessary to read that first, this does kinda function on its own, but probably read that first hehe
Masterlist
Jake is hit with intense dread the moment Rooster steps foot in the Hard Deck that night. Maybe that's why he reactively starts doing his best to get under the other man’s skin as much as he can, as fast as he can. Jake jabs and pokes and thoroughly pisses Bradshaw off to the best of his not insignificant abilities, but even when he succeeds, it doesn’t do much to stop the pervasive unease that gnaws at him.
Not that he really believed it would. It doesn’t even make him feel any better either, in fact it makes him feel much, much worse.
Things hadn’t always been this way. They had been, for a long time, but the past couple of years or so Jake’s relationship with Bradley Bradshaw had softened, somewhat helped along by his friendship with a certain Dr Lamb, who just so happened to be Bradshaw’s wife, as well as the mother of their kid, a kid that Jake loved just as much as, if not more than, any of his actual family. Stuff like that tends to bring folks together, no matter how resistant.
But Jake hadn’t expected to see Rooster back in San Diego along with the others, the enormity and riskiness of the mission seemingly apparent only to Jake, even if he lied through his teeth when his colleagues mentioned similar concerns, if only to try and tell himself this one was just like the others. In the back of his mind though, Jake knows the Navy doesn't make a habit of building special mission squadrons of their top 1%. It was too risky, if something went wrong, all your top aviators could burn in, leaving you with the other 99% that weren’t chosen for a reason.
Which is precisely how Jake knows this mission is bad news. Sure, it had to be done, but from a pilot’s standpoint, any time the plan allowed for error, for casualties, it was a bad plan. If every member of the special squadron needed to be the best to ensure the mission was completed, despite the fact that some of them were not expected to make it home, then that told Jake everything he needed to know.
Honestly, Jake didn’t think much about burning in. He knows that kind of hubris usually ends poorly, but the fact is, he was good at his job, one of the best, and everything he ever bragged about was something he could back up. It's partly why many people disliked him. The only thing more annoying than unjustified confidence was completely justified confidence.
The other part was that more often than not he was playing the jerk just to get a rise. The fact is; Jake had flown many missions he’ll never be able to talk about, missions that had been dangerous, missions he’d been lucky to just make it out of, let alone live to continue flying. None of them had him worrying the inside of his lip so badly he’d only realise he was doing it when his whole lip was swollen and sore, and he'd taken to fiddling once more with toothpicks just to stop himself from causing even more damage.
By the time they’ve been introduced to the mission instructor, Captain Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell, and they’ve gotten an idea of exactly what they would be training for, Jake is at his worst, toothpick not exactly helping people soften to him, his constant barbs more pointed than he would generally be okay dishing out. Even Javy was keeping his distance, sitting in the row of chairs behind his closest colleague and longest friend, instead of in one of the two available spaces beside him.
Jake knows why too.
For once, it’s not about him, though with the way he’d been carrying on you wouldn’t know it.
Jake would never wish to lose any of his squadmates, let alone any of Dagger, most of them people who had come to know and who had put up with him, eventually even accept him. That was a feat worth protecting in and of itself as far as he’s concerned. But Jake had never found himself so fixated on the safety of one squadmate, nor with their grasp and awareness of the realities of their mission, and for the first time in his career feeling, Jake feels properly powerless to do anything but watch Rooster continue to sit on his perch, where he would almost certainly become target practise for a SAM.
The only thing Jake is able to do is push, and needle and either convince Rooster to get his shit together, or be harsh and direct enough in his criticism that even Maverick won’t be able to deny it.
Either way, the outcome is the same: an innocent kid doesn’t lose his father.
He knows that the likelihood of remaining close to Rosie or Goose in the aftermath of his behaviour is extremely low, and if he was acting out of anything except repressed fear, he might’ve chosen to go about this whole nonsense in a far more measured and reasonable manner. But Jake had never been a fan of measured responses, his need for control too much for him to do anything but the most. As the weeks go on and the mission begins to hang dark on the horizon, Jake decides that he could live with never seeing the Bradshaw’s again after all this. As far as Jake is concerned, if it meant that two people who meant more to him than members of his actual family wouldn’t end up burying their husband and father, then what other choice did he have?
Things start to shift and change slightly when he overhears Phoenix asking Rooster about his history with Maverick, and Jake realises exactly who they are to one another, or at least who they used to be to one another.
Something along the lines of Maverick more or less having been Rooster’s adoptive father up until he’d applied for the USNA, after which Rooster had cut Maverick from his life completely. Jake realises then that Maverick, Rooster’s apparent father figure throughout most of his life, had no idea about Rosie, which meant that he had no idea about Goose.
Jake considers breaking out the big guns, exploiting this clear vulnerability, hitting two birds with one stone as not only would Rooster be rightfully furious about his family being brought up and used against him, but he’d also have his little secret revealed, and have to deal with that fallout. It was cruel, and Jake isn’t ashamed to admit he considers it for several days, sitting on the idea, mulling it over, picking his exact angle, choosing the one that would hurt the most and cause the biggest emotional fissure, something even their superiors wouldn’t be able to let go as simple pre-mission tension, something that would end up with Rooster dismissed from this posting, and sent back home. Hell, Jake could even be dismissed for his part in it, but again, he’s not so worried about his own glory this time around.
He’s sitting in the ready room, still contemplating the nuclear option when his phone buzzes. He hadn’t scared Javy off yet today, so his friend glances over at the noise just as Jake unlocks his phone.
His heart drops at the message from you, joined by several photos, which is how he knows he can’t go through with his plan. Never had he received a text from you, especially one with updates on his favourite nephew, and wished he hadn’t. Javy snorts and makes an ‘aww’ sound, not bothering to hide the fact he’s spying on his friend’s screen.
“Man, that kid is going to be so disappointed when he grows up and realises that Uncle Jake is lame,” Javy jokes, pointing at the picture currently on screen, of little Goose in his prospective halloween costume, a flight suit you’ve clearly made for him, complete with sets of patches. In one picture the little replica insignias are identical to Roosters, in the other, they’re a copy of Jake’s own. Your message tells him that Goose was going to wear one out trick-or-treating and the other to a Halloween dress up party at the kids club he attended when you were working late at the hospital.
Jake knows Javy doesn't mean anything by it, he knows how severe his friend can be when he really wanted to needle, but his words hit him with the realisation that if he were to go through with this plan, to expose the existence of Rooster’s family and cause this possibly career stunting blow out, Goose would grow up and find out that his “Uncle Jake”, who he apparently put in the same tier as his own, admittedly pretty great, father, absolutely did not deserve any of his admiration or reverence.
Jake swallows thickly and shuts off his phone without replying. He’d probably call you later, anyhow. Javy frowns at him, but shrugs lightly and watches as Jake pushes up off the couch, moving towards the far wall, needing to just think for a minute. For the first time in weeks he feels enough of his deep-seated dread leave his system, at last letting him think somewhat normally, combined with a clarity that really doesn’t make him feel any better about his recent conduct, definitely making him feel worse about what he’d been planning to do.
He stares blankly at the photos on the wall in front of him and scans each image as he tallies up alternatives, some way to get through to Rooster, make him understand that the way he was flying now would only end badly, it could only end badly, as everyone else seemed to grasp, and struggle with. His eyes flicker over a few grainy faces and move on, before quickly flashing back, blinking in surprise at what he realises he’s looking at.
The surprise pulls him out of his thoughts, away from his tallying and doomsday planning, almost making him forget completely as he stares down at a familiar face that stares back.
“Yo, Coyote, take a look at this!” Jake hears himself call over his shoulder, his eyes never leaving the spot in front of him. Javy approaches casually, leaning down to get a look at the framed photo Jake is transfixed with, easily picking out their instructor, though thirty years younger.
“The man. The legend. There he is.” Javy says lightly, though there is genuine respect lacing his tone. Jake glances over at him and shakes his head.
“No, no, no. Next to him.” Jake says, waiting as Coyote moves slightly closer, his own frown deepening as he gets a good look. “Does he look familiar to you?” he prompts after a moment, before he hears Javy let out a surprised little huff.
“What have we here…” he asks rhetorically, lifting a finger to trace the list of names beneath, until he finds the one that matches.
A new plan begins forming in Jake’s head then, and he straightens up, mind whirling. Javy snorts again and looks back at Jake over his shoulder.
“You realise your little buddy was named after him?” He asks, gesturing to the immortalised image of Rooster’s father. Jake hums.
He’d known Nick was named for Bradshaw’s father, and he knew that the man had died in an aviation accident when Bradley had been little, but he had never realised where ‘Goose’ as a nickname had come from. He’d just thought it was a play on his Bradshaw’s callsign and Rosie’s surname, Lamb. He hadn’t realised the significance behind it before, and it makes him feel worse..
All the information he’d picked up over the last few weeks suddenly begins to make sense, like he’d finally found the one clue on his mental conspiracy board that suddenly connects all the dots, revealing the bigger picture at last. Whether or not it was the correct image was another thing entirely, it wasn’t even important to Jake’s new plan. It didn’t matter if he was right, in fact it would be better if he was completely off base, in the end, the only thing that really mattered to this new method was that Jake’s underlying point was made clear. Jake knows that if Rooster was able to just get the hell off that damn perch of his, then he’d fly this mission better than maybe anyone else, and give Maverick a run for his money at the same time.
And if that didn’t work, then hopefully Maverick would realise that sending Rooster may as well be signing his death warrant.
Jake takes a long sip of his beer and lets out what might be the first truly relaxed breath he’s had in weeks. Leaning forward against the railing that circled the Hard Deck, Jake keeps his gaze fixed firmly on the five-year-old playing in the sand a few metres away.
“Don’t go too far now, alright buddy?” He calls, knowing that Goose wouldn’t stray on purpose, but also knowing that the boy had a habit of getting so wrapped up in his sweet little head that he’d lose all sense of surroundings.
“Okay, Uncle Jake!” Goose replies cheerfully, dropping to begin digging through the top layer of sand in search of seashells.
For several moments Jake simply basks in the ocean breeze, briefly glancing away from the toddler to scan the horizon, but quickly turns back to him again, far more interested in watching the way Goose sorts the shells he’d found into separate groups. In fact, Jake watches on so attentively that he becomes the one who loses track of what’s going on around him, jumping when you manage to sneak up beside him at the railing, clearly looking pleased with yourself at having caught him off guard.
“Y'all moved in now?” Jake asks, ignoring his brief lapse in chill and choosing instead to glance over at you, clinking your beer with his when you offer it out.
“Yup,” you say, popping the ‘p’ in a way Jake would absolutely find infuriating if anyone but you were to do it. “Mav came around with Penny and Amelia yesterday, and we got it knocked out in a couple of hours.” You tell him, before your face turns more mischievous.
“Why, you weren’t planning on coming around under the guise of helping, just so you could mess with my husband, did you?” you ask teasingly, and Jake rolls his eyes.
“I don’t need to come around to do that. I have his number.” Jake says petulantly, though it reminds him that he hadn’t yet found a good time to actually settle things for good with Rooster. Jake may have saved his life, but he’s enough of a grown up to recognise that an actual apology might be necessary given the nature of the situation.
You laugh at that, and Jake feels an easy smile pull at his lips.
The two of you proceed to lapse into a comfortable silence then, both of you just watching as Goose flutters back and forth, occasionally moving back to the deck to place particular shells for safekeeping. You seem to wait for your son to be fully focused on his self-appointed task again before you speak.
“Rooster told me about your reprimand.” You say lightly, voice devoid of any emotion. Jake purses his lips and squints at the water ahead of him.
“Tattle-tale,” he mutters, before taking a large sip of his beer. You turn your body to face him then and cross your arms over your chest.
“You know, he told me that he wasn’t even really upset you brought up his dad…” you continue, and Jake turns his squint on you, finding your words a little hard to believe. “He told me he barely heard what you actually said, he was so convinced you were about to out him about Goose and I in front of Maverick… he said that was why he reacted the way he did.” Once again your voice is light on any clues as to what you might be thinking, and it makes Jake throw back the remainder of his beer before he speaks again.
“I thought about it. Figured with all things considered, Mav would never choose him if he knew about Goose. Probably would have worked, too.” He admits slowly, choosing his words carefully.
“And remind me again why that was plan a?” You ask dryly and with a healthy amount of ridicule directed towards him.
Jake shrugs.
“I think you’re seriously overestimating the thought process that went into this, which for the record, was not a single one.” he replies truthfully, shaking his head. “Could have gotten my ass DD’ed for pulling that shit.” Jake grumbles, both at his previous behaviour, and at how differently things would have gone if Maverick was the type of Commanding Officer who concerned himself at all with little things like direct insubordination.
You hum your agreement then, seemingly satisfied that he was aware of how stupid he’d been. Jake sighs heavily then, and runs a hand through his hair.
“My thoughts on Rooster’s capabilities as a pilot versus the way he actually flies aren’t exactly top secret.” Jake states, readying himself to explain to you what exactly had been so important to him that he’d wound up with an official reprimand over. “The way he was flying the sims wasn’t going to cut it, and frankly, he seemed more preoccupied with proving something to Maverick—” he cuts himself off at that, shaking his head again, and you don’t push him to finish.
Jake presses his lips together as he lets out a sigh, and leans forward on the railing again, eyes once more following the little boy who was quite happily playing by himself in the sand.
“I just thought that Goose deserved to grow up knowing his dad,” Jake confesses at last, feeling slight nerves bubbling in his belly at the frankness of his thoughts, but he can’t help himself from eventually glancing over at you in order to gauge your reaction as you consider what he’s said.
Your expression remains thoughtful, but otherwise unreadable, and for several more seconds the two of you stare at one another, until at last you shift your eyes away from him, and back to your son on the beach.
“I’m gonna suggest that next time, you should try giving communicating at a basic adult level a go first,” you say at last, your voice dripping with even more ridicule now, even more deserved this time. “And then I guess if that doesn’t work, you can move on to starting a fight in the middle of a debriefing with your Commanding Officer.”
“I’ll keep it in mind.” Jake tells you, his tone sarcastic purely out of habit, but he really does mean it.
A beat passes and it occurs to Jake that Rooster must not have told you any details about how the mission had ended up playing out, how despite Jake’s best intentions and worst behaviour, the thing that almost meant Rooster didn’t make it home to you and Goose, had been entirely out of his control, and that it was Jake’s actions that had meant Rooster would be able to return to your family after all was said and done, just like he’d been pushing to make happen from the start.
He blinks down at you, brought out of his thoughts when you bump into his side, nudging his arm with your elbow.
“Thank you, for not saying anything before he got the chance to tell Maverick himself… and for trying to look out for him.”
Jake nods solemnly, before he lifts his arm to wrap around your shoulder, giving you a brief squeeze as you both focus back on watching Goose again.
“For the record, it wasn’t him I was looking out for.” Jake cuts into the silence after a few minutes. You barely move to acknowledge his words, except for the roll of your eyes.
“If you keep ruining the moment, I’m going to tell Rooster that you complimented his abilities as a pilot.”
Jake glares down at you, but promptly clamps his mouth shut. To your credit, you don’t gloat about your victory, already focusing back on the apparent moment you were sharing, giving up all pretence of sourness when the sun begins peeking perfectly through the clouds, and Goose takes off running toward the two of you, a large collection of seashells gathered in his hands, shouting that he’d found one for you, following up right away by asking if you’ll put it on your desk at work. Jake takes that as his cue to release you, moving to instead swoop Goose up in his arms.
You watch as Jake carries your son back down to the sand, listening intently as he shows him each of the shells he’d found and chattering away about each of them as Jake asks. You smile a little wider when you sense Rooster stepping into place at your side, and he wraps his arm around your shoulder. You hum contently, and rest a hand against his chest.
“I think I’m willing to reconsider this whole ‘Uncle Jake’ topic.” Your husband tells you, earning an incredulous laugh from you.
“I’m sorry to ruin your illusion of control, but that ship sailed a while ago,” you chortle as Rooster grimaces and shoots you a look. You pat his chest sympathetically, and he covers your hand with his own. You both watch Jake and Goose for a few more peaceful moments, until your boy notices Rooster standing with you. “Daddy! Come play!” Goose calls out. Rooster grins widely as Jake begins talking loudly about how he isn’t brave enough to come out onto the sand. You watch as Rooster vaults the railing, and your heart grows soft as both aviators begin to give chase to Goose, with Rooster eventually gathering him up and holding him still for Jake to tickle.

Again, cool response to the last question, so I'll let you pick from these options:
And there are things I have fan-fixed in my head to the point that I have to remind myself that the fix-it isn’t part of the actual canon: favourite one of these?
Or
Your/a favourite part of actual canon. Like, maybe something little but it's just so lovely and fitting to you and you're just happy that it exists?
I’ve been a little down on Trek lately, so I’m going to type as fast as I can to brain-dump, in show order, the first things that pop into my mind that I absolutely love in Trek canon:
Kirk calling Nomad his son, the doctor
Christine Chapel’s snark to Roger Korby about schtupping the androids
Mark Leonard’s performance in Balance of Terror
the Horta (a great mama)
“Edith Keeler must die.”
Captain John Christopher, United States Air Force. Serial number 4857932.
Tribbles
the lesson of The Cloud Minders that we must have empathy and listen to others when they tell us about their lived experience in an environment unlike our own
the cheap-ass animation of TAS
Q
Bynars and Minuet
Beverly Crusher’s frustration in Arsenal of Freedom (and the episode’s Good Ship Lollipop joke)
Picard shooting the other version of himself in Time Squared (to clarify: out of respect for those times when we have to stop ourselves from getting caught in loops/doing stupid stuff and we summon up the courage to break a bad cycle and move forward)
K'Ehleyr
Picard out-lawyering the Sheliak
Rachel Garrett; Yar and Castillo
Lal (but I can’t watch the end anymore, it hurts too much)
the Shakespeare and “Set a course for Betazed. Warp 9.” comedy in Ménage a Troi
Best of Both Worlds, I and II (Shelby inclusive)
every conference table discussion in all of TNG
Beverly’s jump in Remember Me (such a damn good episode)
the reveal in Future Imperfect (which one? all of them)
The Dancing Doctor tap dancing with Data
Darmok. And Jalad. At Tenagra.
Ro Laren
Troi saying, “You could have easily been right” to Ro in Disaster
Hugh, Third of Five
the fact that The Next Phase has so many plotholes and they’re forgivable because the episode is so fun and great
Scotty on the holodeck version of the TOS bridge and Picard joining him
Rascals!
Deanna’s “Ancient West” outfit
the Jefferies tube music and make out session in Lessons
Attached. Oh, my heart.
the Enterprise with three nacelles … and that absolutely perfect last shot of the series
“You exist here.”
Sisko’s casual, everyday affection for Jake
“Old Man”
Rejoined. Lenara Khan. The love. That kiss. The emotional stakes. All of it.
the three Ferengi hitting their own heads to try to fix their universal translators so the 20th century Earth military people mimic the movement to try to communicate
every second of Trials and Tribble-ations including Sisko working overtime to stop fuckmaster Dax, tossing the tribbles, Sisko meeting Kirk, “We do not discuss it with outsiders,” and so much more
Kira blaming Bashir for putting the baby inside her when … you know … behind the scenes
The Sons of Mogh helping with the harvest in Children of Time
Far Beyond the Stars — some of the best if not the best science fiction I have ever seen
the monster fakeout (and kindness) in The Sound of Her Voice, even though the end makes me cry
“Computer, erase that entire personal log.”
Solok
Sisko and Kassidy discussing their comfort levels about a simulation in which the reality was segregation
Janeway waterfalling off the sofa to be closer to Mark on the screen
“Warp particles!”
the lizard babies
the two Janeways in Deadlock
Remember (a painfully good Holocaust episode that doesn’t get enough credit and, yes, I know the path the script took and I’m glad it ended up as a B’Elanna episode)
“I don't know what I'm seeking.” “Then I believe you are ready to begin.”
“The child you spoke of, the girl. Her favorite color was red.” Also, Tuvok’s meditation lamp in the window for Kes.
hot damn, Counterpoint, yaaas
everything in Relativity
“The Yankees, in six games.”
Janeway going after Seven in The Voyager Conspiracy
“This is Lieutenant Reginald Barclay at Starfleet Command.” “It's good to hear your voice, Lieutenant. We've been waiting a long time for this moment.” “The feeling is mutual. Unfortunately, the micro-wormhole is collapsing. We have only a few moments.” “Understood. We are transmitting our ship's logs, crew reports, and navigational records to you now.” “Acknowledged. And we're sending you data on some new hyper-subspace technology. We're hoping eventually to use it to keep in regular contact, and we're including some recommended modifications for your comm system.” “We'll implement them as soon as possible.” “There's someone else here who would also like to say something.” “This is Admiral Paris.” “Hello, sir.” “How are your people holding up?” “Very well. They're an exemplary crew, your son included.” “Tell him, tell him I miss him. And I'm proud of him.” “He heard you, Admiral.” “The wormhole is collapsing.” “I want you all to know we're doing everything we can to bring you home.” “We appreciate it, sir. Keep a docking bay open for us.”
“Nice hair.” (Live Fast and Prosper)

Burnham and Georgiou forming the delta with their footsteps
the CGI on only the shields protecting Burnham from space
“Are we in session? Because I didn't know you were practicing again. Because if I have your undivided attention for fifty minutes, I can think of a whole bunch of other things we could be doing.”
“That's as depressing a trait as I've ever heard.” “I don't give a damn … I still don't give a damn.”

Rocket's Backstory
*deep breath* God help me
This is the most inconsistent Marvel backstory and I, the top expert on Halfworld, am here to clear it up.
I'm going to split the variants into the following catagories: 1985, 2014, modern comics, show, and mcu. (the show is simply called Guardians of the Galaxy and is on disney+ and i highly recommend).
I have compiled a spreadsheet to go over the main points
As you can see, it's a shit show.
(As i go over the stories as best I can, please note that i am not a comic buff i am a 15 yo with Asperger's and an obsession with Halfworld and if i get something wrong plz don't be mad at me just tell me and I'll fix it :3)
1985 Rocket Raccoon- Rocket is a genetically modified caretaker on Halfworld, a mental asylum used to hold the insane of the galaxy, known as loonies/shrinks (extremely offence things to call mentally ill ppl but it was the 80'ssss). They have a book called the Halfworld Bible, which holds the secrets of the planets and it's people. The planet is ruled by Mayhem Mechaniks and Dyvynicies Inc; rival toy companies owened by Judson Jakes and Lord Dyvyne respectively. Jakes killed Lylla's parents to steal the company and it's... horrifying robot clowns. Pyko steals the Halfworld Bible for it's instructions on how to escape the planet in a giant human-shaped ship. Jakes and Dyvyne find out about this plot and team up to crash a party and there's a big battle and Rocket, Lylla, Pyko, Wal, Blackjack, and possibly Pyko escape Halfworld on the ship, leaving it in shambles as the loonies are left to the own devices to rebuilt the planet with their newfound wisdom (Pyko manages to 'cure' them)
2014 Rocket Raccoon (my fav series :3)- This one doesn't have much in the way of backstory, all we know is what Captain Sale gives us in the last book. Throughout the series it is shown that Rocket has no memory of his creation and believes he is the last of his kind. Until he ends up on Captain Sale's ship. She gives he the key to the Book of Halfworld and he takes 4 hours to read it. He is shown to be disgusted and horrified at the contents, leaving it with Sale and going home. (Clowns and the toy factory etc are mentioned, implying it is a sequel to the 1985 version.
Modern Comics- This section is specifically about v5 GotG #8 as I don't recall any other comics going into much detail. Here, there are loonies and robots, but no clowns. They must have thought it was too silly. Rocket is a therapy animal turned sentient with cruel experimentation. This is the first version of Rocket's backstory to show him sustaining significant and lasting trauma from his past. Not to mention the debilitating physical effects of having a metal skeleton and countless other weird things he doesn't understand. After his transformation, he is shown with the 1985 gang and other past team ups in a montage. It seems there is also an attempt at continuity here but it misses the mark a bit.
GotG Show 2015- This is by far the worst adaptation in my opinion, as it completely overhauls the story. So note that I have bias here. Here, Rocket is a simple Earth raccoon that has been transformed with the purpose of being a living weapon. His purpose was more 'artificial genius' than 'genetic marvel'. Immediately after being let into a more open enclosure, he meets Groot and effortlessly destroys the robots and steals a ravanger ship. After freeing all the creatures, of course.
(i am unable to provide images for this section as disney is a pussy ass company and won't let me screenshot but just imagine it sucking)
MCU- Anyone reading this has already seen the movies but I'll go over it anyway. The High Evolutionary is a man trying to recreate a sentient Earth-like planet by modifying creatures. Rocket is one of these poor souls. He lives his early years in a cage with Floor, Lylla, and Teefs. Rocket manages to open the cage one day, only to have his friends shot in front of him by the High Evolutionary. He then escapes. He meets Groot later in a well, not shown but confirmed by James Gunn.
Wow this took long to write. Time for the conclusion. Here i will 'average out' all the stories and throw in my personal theories.
My version- Halfworld is an insane asylum built by the Kree where they experiment on mentally ill people to try to cure them(we used to do this here on earth until the 60's). The 'toy factory' is a cover-up for this operation. The robot 'doctors' use clown faces to put the patients at ease. But what do psycho robot doctors do when the asylum is abandoned and not longer supplied with patients? They turn to the animal inhabitants on the planet. The Halfworld Bible/ Book of Halfworld is an engineering manual documenting the disgusting progress of making an innocent creature sentient. Pyko frees his people after decades of slavery in a grand rebellion and Lylla becomes the Priestess and guardian of the book like in 1985. Unfortunately, during the rebellion, 89P13 and Groot get stuck in an escape pod and sent away from the Keystone Quadrent, leading him to believe all of his people are dead or re-enslaved.
I think this version harnesses the soul and vibe of all the backstories while making it make more sense in the long run.
I had a lot of fun putting this together and I hope y'all appreciate it :D (Follow for more Halfworld content <3)

Are They a Stoner? DS9 Edition:
Captain Sisko: Being raised in the south means he has most definitely lit up, and I refuse to believe otherwise. However, after his father caught him smoking and he got stuck on clam duty for a month, he learned his lesson.
Jadzia Dax: Let’s be so real, if she played Tongo with a bunch of Ferengi why would she not own a Betazed bong??? She definitely begged Worf to try it but after his experience with Deanna he only fucks with Blood Wine.
Kira Nerys: OH 100% she was a stoner during the occupation. How would you even attempt to relax in that situation WITHOUT weed? Once the occupation ended Kira stopped messing with weed, but Kira would often hangout with Jadzia, who no doubt brought something to share with Nerys on multiple occasions.
Worf: Blood wine and prune juice.
Dr. Bashir: Before knowledge of him being an augment was made public he never touched anything that could potentially make him not in full control of himself (he did drink a little though). After the knowledge was made public Dr. Bashir and O’Brien definitely were lighting up in the holosuites. That’s why they don’t remember the Alamo.
Erzi Dax: She was straight edge through and through before she was joined with Dax. However afterward…Let’s just say Dax would never turn down an edible.
Odo:
Elim Garak: After the wire was removed Garak decided to stay relatively sober. However, for harm reduction reasons, and to help him cope with his headaches Dr. Bashir prescribed him some medical gummies. He eventually waned off of them completely once Erzi started helping him (he still some times smokes and sews which is why sometimes your trousers don’t always fit right).
Miles O’ Brien: He swore off the “devils lettuce” when he first came aboard the Enterprise. But once stationed at DS9 he quickly realized he would need some of Keiko’s supply of Cannabis-infused tea to remain sane.
Quark: Being a bar owner (best bar on the promenade btw) he is not a big supporter of weed because his main source of profit is alcohol. However, Nog explained to him what a cart is and how you can make a profit from selling them to hoo-mans so he is looking into that as a possible new business opportunity.
Rom: You can’t be a leftist and not have at least tried weed. Also an engineer, so yeah.
Leeta: Oh 10000%. In fact, she’s the plug for the other dabo girls. She even bags her “merchandise” in handmade baggies she makes from recycled textile/fabrics from Garak’s (he owes her because she gave him boy advice).
Nog: No. He follows the rules of StarFleet academy to a T.
Jake Sisko: Hes going to school for writing so yeah. Definitely an edibles kinda guy. His dad has yet to find out despite how many times Jake has come home and slammed an entire pot of jambalaya in 10 minutes.
Keiko O’Brien: Who do you think on DS9 is growing it in the first place?
Gul Dukat: No, he is a snitch who hates fun.
Weyoun: Yes, he is a snitch who loves fun.
Kai Winn: She gives me cop vibes more than Odo does so I’m saying she is a snitch who also hates fun. She also unironically calls weed the Pah-Wraiths Herb or something like that.
Kasidy Yates: Yes, but stopped after jail.
Ziyal: Art school attendee/ art school drop-out. You tell me.
Damar: He’s only a fiend for Kanar (someone help that dude).

Summary: Loki hasn’t been home in days; no problem.
Letting out a deep sigh, a man sat at his desk and ran his hands through his hair harshly. His tattoos looked dull against his skin form lack of sleep, nutrition, and well, sunlight. He let his phone ring for the 3rd time that hour; the hour that he was suppose to be home. In all honesty, he was suppose to be home several hours ago but this current case was hitting him hard. Child cases were always the roughest for him. They reminded him of the past he tried so hard to be better than.
“Loki!” Another sigh. David looked up to see his captain walking closer to him with that stupid look on his face.
“We got that suspect in custody. Picked up for a traffic violation, can ya believe it? Anyways, he’s all yours. Room two.” This was just what he needed when his body was screaming for rest. The interrogation was cold, but it helped keep both detective and suspect awake through the grueling process. Two hours had gone by and nothing. He was getting absolutely nothing from the guy. The frustration had long since creeped in; all he wanted was a confession. Loki knew the man was guilty. There were too many eyewitnesses that placed this man with the kids, too many stories from the children they were able to get released. He was about as guilty as anyone could get, but without the lab results coming back or a confession, the man would walk.
“What’d you do to those boys, Steve?” Loki had moved to crowding the man in the corner. He never touched him, but he made sure to stay in his bubble. Steve didn’t look the detective in the eyes as he cowered in the corner of the interrogation room. All through the questioning, Steve had maintained that he did nothing, but Loki knew different. Growing up in the way that he did; it gave him a unique perspective on types of people. The horrors of the boys home he grew up in left scars that he would never be rid of, but they helped in these situations.
“I didn’t do anything. You got the wrong guy. I only cared for those boys; I didn’t do anything wrong.” The man cried as he shook in the corner. He cowered away from Loki, trying to keep as much distance between the two as possible. David’s eyes blinked rapidly, and he let out a deep sigh. He stepped away, and watched as Steve visibly relaxed. His hands stopped shaking, his body too. Steve’s eyes darted quickly around the room and over Loki’s figure, like a scared, cornered animal. He made a mad rush for Loki and both of them fell to the floor. Grappling, and trying to get dominance, the men were caught in a power struggle. David finally managed to get his hands up to where he could grab Steve’s shoulders. He brought his knee up and connected to his gut. The assailant groaned in pain and fell to the floor, while Loki moved around and got his cuffs on the man.
“Wrong move, asshole.” Loki hauled the man up and shoved him down in the seat while the door to the room opened. Two uniformed police officers moved in to help subdue the man, and get him properly detained. Steve started to laugh as the chain was attached to the cuffs, and the bar on the table, which caused David to stop before his hand reached the handle of the door. Confused, the detective turned back to look at the man.
“What?” Steve continued to laugh to himself. Loki moved closer and placed his hands on the tabletop.
“What the fuck’s so funny?” Slowly, Steve laughter dwindled down. He took just a moment to collect himself before he leaned forward and spoke quietly. So quietly, that Loki was doubting if he said anything at all.
“You. Big, bad, Detective David Loki. Rising up and leaving that boys home. Huntington, right? Shame it closed down. Those boys were so cared for. Just like these boys are,” Steve leaned even closer, and stood up to be eye level with Loki, “you won’t make it stick. I’ll walk out of here without any charges and you’ll obsess over this case. Those boys love me, and they won’t speak out against anyone at the home. They know what will happen.” With that, the man sat down and smiled. He stared Loki down, while his mind tried to wrap itself around the situation. Loki mirrored Steve and got close to his face to where they shared the same breath.
“I will make this stick. Those boys are terrified of you; that’s not love. And you know what, I’ll put you away on child charges which will be great for you in prison. And once I’ve gotten you, I’ll get everyone else that allowed that to happen in the boys home. I will make sure that happens.” David turned and left the room swiftly, ignoring Steve’s calls of his name. The whole ordeal made his head swim and not in the way that he liked. Everything was too much; too bright, too loud, too smelly, too itchy. His steps to his desk may have looked confident, but inside he was crumbling down.
He held his head in his hands and took deep breaths, trying so desperately not to fly off the handle. The noise around him muddled into pure white noise, and his eyes slipped shut. Saliva started to pool in his mouth as his heart dropped. He could feel himself get sick and want to throw up, but he pushed it down. If he could just make it through this day, this case; he could reward himself with a night in with his wife. That would be lovely. But what if she was planning on leaving him because of his work schedule? He was never home, but he tried to make it home in time for dinner. It didn’t always work but every dinner he missed, would just be a chance at asking it up to her. She truly had that patience of a saint but was it enough. Thoughts ran wild in his head, as he tuned out the outside world.
“Dave? David? Honey, are you alright?” A hand waved in front of his vision. Startling himself back into his chair, he slowly calmed down. She was here. His darling wife. In her hands were several bags that each had smells galore coming from them. Blinking a few times, Loki stood up abruptly from his desk and grabbed on of the bags out of her hands, and grabbed her wrist to lead her through the station. She never questioned where he was leading her, trusting him to make the decisions he needed to. David led his wife into an empty conference room and dumped the food on the table. He grabbed her shoulders and pulled her into him, immediately putting his nose in her neck. The strain hurt beyond belief, but the comfort trumped the pain in his neck.
Breathe in, hold, breathe out. The routine that he had developed over the last few decades, now had the added component of being in his wife’s arms. Her hands came up and stroked through his dark hair gently. Careful not to tug, she stood on her tiptoes to make it easier for her husband to decompress. She tried to follow his breathing, which helped keep her calm.
“Rough case?” She felt him nod into her neck. Mrs. Loki realized early on that if David was this worked up, it was best to ask him yes or no questions as forming words would lead to a complete breakdown.
“Can you eat a little something please? That will help the sick feeling in your stomach right now.” David nodded again, knowing that his wife had witnessed this before and knew the signs. She led him over to the chairs nearby and gently dropped him in one, before placing herself in one right next to his. His hands stayed on her while she dished out the meal she had prepared for the both of them. David’s eyes were unfocused but he tried to keep them on her. His head like it was floating upside down. Swimming in the negative emotions that were there, and repressed memories that had resurfaced after years of trying to keep them buried.
“Here, honey. Small bites, okay? Think you can do small bites?” The fork was transferred to his hand after she cut up the meat in the box. As David got pulled back to reality, his wife tried to keep him eating and listening. She even went as far as to take over when his fork slipped from his unclenched hand, and feed him small bites of meat and rice. Slowly but surely, David was finally able to make out his wife’s face and voice clearly. When she noticed the switch, her smile softened as her heart swelled.
“Hey, honey. You okay now?” David nodded and went to go eat more food, but noticed that it was all gone. They must have finished their meals while he was zoned out.
“Thank you for this. Just a… rough case. A really fucking rough case.” He muttered quietly, looking down at his hands. He grabbed hers as well and toyed with the wedding ring he had put there years ago. The little ‘DL’ on her finger was barely visible with the bands blocking the view.
“No need to thank me. No matter what it is, I’ll be there for you. And I know that whatever case your on, no matter how hard, you’ll solve it. You’ll take on the full weight of the case, not accept practically anyone’s help, and you won’t come home for days on end because you’ll sleep in one of the cells so you’re close in case you’re needed. And then you’ll come home once you’ve solved it, and we’re going to have a nice dinner where you tell me about how you knew it was the right person all along. Then, we’ll go to bed in each others arms. When we wake up the next morning, we’ll do the cycle all over again.” David looked into her eyes as she concluded her mini speech. It may not have been the most inspirational and uplifting, but to him, it meant the world. His face cracked into a rare, genuine smile as he leaned in closer to his wife. Pressing a gentle kiss to her lips, it quickly turned into a full lip lock as the couple reached up to grab the other’s face.
“Thank you.” Loki whispered as he pulled away. He was a man of few, emotional words, but he always believed that actions spoke louder than words could ever. His lover just patted his cheek and pulled away, starting to stow away the boxes that held their lunches and drinks.
“Of course, honey. It’s what I’m here for. Now, do you need anything else before you get back to your case, detective Loki?” She said, teasingly. Her hands were suddenly free from the bags as David walked closer and grabbed her hips.
“Maybe one more kiss?” His question was near silent, just like his partners answer. Her arms wrapped around his shoulders as she guided his head towards hers. The instant their lips touched again, David felt his body relax, and the tension leave.
Soon, she had to leave, as work called both of them away from each other. While David sat at his desk, his mind wandered. This case was going to be hard on him; that was certain. Child cases were hard on anyone, but he had to keep trying. No one helped him when he was their age. No one came to his rescue except his own self. But if he could help these boys be better than him, that would be a win in his books. David’s personal phone buzzed on the table in front of him.
There’s going to be meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and veggies for dinner tonight if you come home. Love you <3
It was difficult to curb the smile that threatened to overtake his face. He only allowed a small smile to peak through before returning his face to neutral. Maybe he should go home and sleep in his own bed tonight. It might help to give him a fresh set of eyes. Yeah, that was what he needed. To fall asleep in the arms of his wife, where he was safe.
