PART ONE.
he had never captured her attention, not within the years of knowing each other through family rivalries, let alone in the middle of this village where he so happened to bump into her without notice.
she scoffed, head still turned around towards him as he walked away never looking back, disappearing into the large crowd of civilians.
-
the noble families throughout the land were fiercely competitive with one another. with hardly any room for friendly connections or conversation, the king’s opinion and words were the only ones that were valued. the royal family ruled the nations with an authoritative form of government, causing tensions to rise throughout the centuries.
once a year, the king hosted a grand summer celebration in his palace to celebrate the death of his queen. families from all different ranks and nations gathered together in respect to the royal family. the queen’s last wish was to bring back the once-chivalrous nature of this civilization.
nobles showed up with smiles and polite greetings but the glances and gazes around the room revealed everyone’s true jealous nature. the idea of unity between the aristocratic families in this lifetime was impossible, as parents taught their children to stay far away from those with a certain surname and if any of that is disobeyed the price to pay was never worth it.
heeseung was seen across the room, standing behind his mother and father, and side by side with his younger siblings. as the eldest son, he was held to an impossible standard that seeing how stoic and emotionless he was, came to no surprise. his family was highly respected and had a kind of wealth that wouldn’t run out for generations. working closely with the king during the war all those years ago earned them great status and appreciation from the everyday citizens.
he found a celebration like this superficial, scowling at how anyone’s death would warrant hundreds of people gathering together for drinks and dancing. if he was ever found dead and his loved ones threw a party for every passing year, he’d haunt them in their sleep. as his gaze scanned the room, he paused at the sight of her. heeseung mildly recalled bumping into her a few days ago and the obnoxious reaction that came out of it. the amusing part was he didn’t even notice her furrowed brows and disgusted gaze from the corner of his eye until he heard that dramatic scoff. that was the most attention she had ever given him, and it was strange that her presence at this celebration brought him to think of that moment. because it didn’t matter what her reaction was, none of it mattered at all as he was raised to keep his distance at best and think horribly of her at worst. heeseung’s face remained still when her gaze met his, and she quickly looked away with annoyance.
-
she was bored of these parties from the king, if it wasn’t a celebration for one thing it was for another. there was a grand gathering every few weeks and it did nothing to change the relations between the noble families. after complaining to her mother about yet another celebration of the queen’s death, one that she had been going to since childhood, her mother simply pulled at her hair a bit tighter than necessary to secure her up-do, before hissing in her ear that this was an honor.
sneaking off into the queen’s garden, she sat alongside the pond where she gazed at her reflection in the water. being the youngest daughter was miserable and boring. some would title it “the invisible child,” with all her older brothers being the center of attention at all times. due to their high status of being aristocrats, school was in her room at her desk with a hired private tutor. friends were not an option and the most conversation she got out of anyone by her age was telling a kid it was okay when they ran into her. loneliness was agonizing and she had fallen victim to it.
the fake laughter and string music coming from inside the palace was muffled, with the air’s gentle breeze being the only thing louder than the party. as she got lost in thought, a branch snapped to her left and her head immediately turned to the foreign sound. with her hyper awareness tuning into what that noise could have came from, only a cricket from a distance.
heeseung’s silohette comes from under the blossom tree and he holds back a laugh from the look on her face. the terror she displayed was amusing but giving her the reaction of anything near positive wasn’t something he would be able to do.
her shoulder’s drop, realizing that it wasn’t a secret asssassin that her brothers have scared her into believing her entire life and she immediately stands up to defend her spot being there first.
“you’re not supposed to be here,”
she wasn’t supposed to be speaking to him at all he says inside his head before he rolling his eyes and swatting his hand, ushering her to stop talking as he took a seat on a bench near the pond.
heeseung seemed unbothered by the encounter, getting lost in thought as he already had his pile of problems. the daughter of his family’s enemies were the least of his concerns, and if he had a bit more energy in him he would’ve just walked away and found his other usual spot. but with being around his family where looks and status mattered the most, things that meant absolutely nothing to him, the life was drained from his face and his eyes were as somber as ever. he rarely left his parent’s side at occasions like these and to spot him all alone, away from the crowd was a sight to see.
with no verbal response from heeseung, staring at him for a few minutes still in that same spot she grounded her feet in, she shakes her head before quietly leaving.
-
as the months passed and more gatherings were hosted by the king, heeseung and her formed a mutual respect where both would leave each other alone in the queen’s garden. there was perhaps a silent bond between the two where an escape from family matters meant a moment of tranquility. to her knowledge, none of this was against the rules as there was no form of contact. she tossed and turned and lost more sleep than usual as she meddled with this inner conflict. even though there was no acknowledgment let alone talking going on, the mere respect of one another’s space was still uncomfortable.
-
on a cold december the week before the winter ceremony, she set off into the village to gather gifts to bring for the king’s staff. giving back her thanks and appreciation to those who worked below the royals and nobles was something her parents wanted no involvement in as charity was highly frowned upon in such a high-class family. the constant clashing with her and her family’s beliefs forced her to sneak behind their back for lots of reasons, and buying gifts from the townspeople was certainly one of them.
with the lower half of her face covered with a small scarf, she purchases small items and fruit as gifts. bracelets that brought good luck and promised safety for the new year was one of her favorites to purchase, as she believed everyone deserved a bit of good fortune, rich or poor. as she made her way to the next stall of goods, smiling behind the thin cloth, she hears a roar of screams at a distance behind her. dropping the bracelet that was in her head like a knee jerk reaction, her eyes squint at a distance to make out where such screams could be coming from. there was never any trouble in the village this way, and it could have possibly been neighborhood kids fooling around on this busy day. but the blood rushing to her ears and the hair standing on her arms told the true horror of those screams, as they were far from screams of amusement.
bodies upon bodies come running in her direction, with civilians collapsing on one another, mothers grabbing their children and tripping, and elderly getting pushed and trampled on, all trying to make their way from the gathering of black horses ridden by men covered in masks with swords the length of their statures.
her breath hitches as she finally catches sight of the slaughter, feet barely picking up to run backward before her arm is grabbed and pulled away from the direction everyone was trying to get to.
-
the burning in her lungs feels like a blade to the chest, cold icy wind smacking her and she’s almost choking on the fabric that was meant to hide her appearance. they had been running for a few minutes and her adrenaline was wearing off, causing her to abruptly stop at one of the trees.
“w-what are you doing and where are we going we have to go back to help them-” she pants and heeseung comes to a halt, letting out a grunt of frustration as he catches his own breath and scans their surroundings. the forest was eerily quiet apart from the terror that was becoming distant from fleeing.
he towers over her, only a drip of sweat is spotted on his forehead as the winter air blows against them both. beginning to open his mouth before closing it again, he shakes his head and pulls her to run further along.
the terrain is rough beneath her feet and she thinks she might fall face flat if not for him dragging her up every time she almost slightly trips. there was a ringing she could hear that she couldn’t quite comprehend. whether it was the gushes of wind slicing past her ear or the thought processes firing from the sheer amount of horror she witnessed back there, her legs ripped from the constant spriting and she thought she could give it all up right there and then.
within another half mile, the two made it to the edge of the forest where she could slightly make out the massive palace they were both all too used to. what intrigues her is how he managed to navigate his way to the palace, as there was never a path on government-made maps that took you directly to the king’s square from that village. what troubled her more was why anyone would go through the forest for any form of shortcut, as her parents always warned her to stay on the carved-out paths.
at the gates, she has a widespread view of government officials and kingdom servants chaotically running around. shouting between one another when the king’s square was renowned for its charm and grandiosity, signaled that the recent mass killing in the village has caused disaster in the land.
heeseung pulls her along to sneak inside the palace, making their way into hallways located in a wing that she had never even heard of. ducking behind corners and statue monuments, he dragged her into a room at the end of the hall once the coast was clear. with the shutting of the door, the room turned almost black with just a bit of light left from the setting sun in the dark of winter, glimpsing through the one small window.
he finally catches his breath as his back presses against the wall and it is the only thing you can hear.
-
you stood there in silence, near impatience as your mind was trying to catch you up on what had just happened in the last hour. his firm grip on your wrist left a mark and you were sure that if you weren’t to rest soon your legs would give out.
tears threatened to prick your eyes as you recall the sounds and sight of men slashing bodies in two. in all your years of living here, there was never any violence or disruption. the land lived in peace since you were born and your entire life was at worst, glares from the other families. to see innocent civilians being murdered by masked men made your vision blurry and black, worrying for your own loved ones and at a complete lost as to where they are now.
you glanced over at heeseung and saw that he was troubled himself. his gaze was to the floor and he held in his terror well because if you hadn’t known what had happened you would’ve assumed he was just having his typical somber thoughts in the queen’s garden.
clearing your throat, you spoke up to finally break the silence.
“b-back there, what happened in the village, w-what happened back there and what was that? and why did you bring me here- and wh- what happens-“ you stopped when his eyes met yours and threw his head back against the wall, closing his eyes to take a deep inhale before opening them again.
“i don’t know.” he simply says, and it was the first time he’s ever spoken to you, you realize. and your face heats up in realization as you turn away to feign innocence from the bizarreness of it all. from the months of sharing spaces in the garden you never held a conversation let alone exchange any words with him.
you turn back to look at him and stop yourself from questioning anymore, as it seemed like the entire kingdom didn’t know either. you needed answers he probably didn’t have right now, like where your family was and where those men on horses came from. the land was surrounded by ocean and horses were only imported for the wealthy, having a horse for transportation was such a rarity that a storm of them coming into the middle of a village made no sense.
after a few quiet minutes and suddenly noticing the tapping of his foot on the floor, you realized how being alone in a room with one of your supposed sworn enemies was not a good look, and if anyone were to walk in and report to your family a massive shouting from your father was bound to happen. then again, was a scandal such as this any news as to what was going on out there? from the uproar in the front of the palace, there were surely no guards around checking in on rooms to hopefully catch someone who wasn’t supposed to be together. your face reddens at the idea of being caught and you almost wanna hide under the pillow as the scandalous nature of it all hits you. you had never been alone with a boy, let alone a boy from a family you were condemned to speak to. heeseung notices your fluster and shifts his gait to his other feet, clearing his throat to speak.
“i brought you here because if the men came from the southern part of town, it was dangerous to go back to our homes. the kingdom here is the most northern part and the only sanctuary we can stay in without endangering others. your head on a stick probably costs a thousand family’s lifetime savings and mine, even more. this is where we will stay for now-“
“but what about my family?” you let out, standing up in disbelief at the sudden hint of the southern part of the city being invaded. what could’ve possibly happened to mother, father, all your older siblings? you had no way of reaching out to them and this horrifies you into trying to leave the room before heeseung pulls back that same wrist he dragged you across the forest in. his grip is harsh around the tender joint’s and you pry his hands off with your other.
“you are not leaving. there is nothing you can do for yourself or for your family but wait. don’t jeopardize something when the best thing right now is to wait for the king’s orders.” he speaks harshly.
you ignore his comment and go for the door again which he shuts close. he was irritating in every way, how he handled you like you were someone he was close to, dragging you across the forest and forcing you to be here without a good enough explanation. giving you advice and suggestions as if either of you had the slightest clue what was going on. but despite his obnoxiousness he made a fair point, and storming out of the room would leave you standing outside the palace not knowing where to go next.
“trust me on this. and be thankful that i’m putting my differences aside to save your damn life right now-“
“i never asked for saving.” you interrupted him and stormed back into the bed, ending anymore kind of speaking between you two.
-
as morning peaks through the window you sit awake in the clothes from the previous day, hair still pulled up together with the pin in your hair. the tension at your scalp makes your head feel inflamed and you long for a hot bath in the coziness of your home bathroom. picking out the pin, your hair falls to your shoulders, and heeseung walks in the room with his clothes slightly undone, to which you assume he fell asleep on that small seating area across the bed.
once realizing you were well awake he strides to the end of your bed, giving you a scroll that he kept in his pocket.
“messages from the king that i collected from some of the officials this morning. everything out there is like hell.”
you blink at his words and note the frustration in his face, and the dark circles under his eyes. he let’s out a tired breath and runs his hand along his hair.
“the war from all those years ago when we were just children, the beginning of the war is rising again.” all of the blood that filled the veins in your face drained into a cold paleness. an unprecedented attack was surely not enough to dictate the beginning of war was it? were you too naive to see the struggles of the real world? was staying cooped in your family’s palace for years to shield you from the reality of all the nations?
“the kingdom is at risk of falling, and all the noble families are panicking. the king demands for all of them to gather here indefinitely.”
you read the words over and over on the scroll, in disbelief at how drastically everything changed in just a day. how people who hate each other can stand being in the same place all at once. would the darkness of war pressure these nobilities to hold each other’s hands and collaborate? will forceful teamwork end up breaking us apart even further?
“our families are here, and i’m sure they are expecting to see you soon. i would wash up and be on the way to them before another chaos uproars.”
to that, you nod and he makes his way out again, most likely going to his own family and you’re sure this is the last you guys will speak ever again. the first and last conversation with heeseung, was only for survival means. you can’t help but wonder where you would be right now if he wasn’t in the village at the same time as you. you can’t help but ponder if you would even be here at all. the thought of ever being in debt to someone you should have no ties with haunts you for the rest of the day, and you don’t notice the darkness of the night until you up in the middle of it.
-
the days ahead drag on as you are left in the dark while your family is in meetings from morning till sunrise, only making small talk with you and reminding you of your meals. the guest rooms assigned to each family are the size of a closet at everyone’s place back at their own home.
the loneliness you felt all your life creeps up again as you are isolated from the true horror outside these palace walls. for a few days, you were distracted by worry and what the plans are ahead, but with your family keeping you away from all these political endeavors you are left with the haunting feeling of isolation that you can’t even process it all in your own home. privacy was no longer a thing as you shared a room with your parents and siblings.
what terrifies you is how even in panic and confusion those few days ago, it felt better knowing anything, horrifying as it was, than nothing at all.
your hopes of this ending anytime soon are low, as the history you have been taught made you understand just how long the build-up of war is. being lectured on it was never enough to put the fear right in your body. seeing it for what it was in the flesh made you understand.
-
you spend the following weeks sneaking off into the room where you were first brought to, as you come to understand that no one stayed there and you wonder why. your mind started to question how he even knew of this place. for you to have absolutely no idea this wing even existed was telling, but for him to know of such a specific spot in this hidden area was another.
the idea of a promising noble son like him sneaking off into rooms that no others knew of made your face heat up and you cursed yourself at the thought of something like that. it wasn’t like you were being perverted, why else would anyone our age know about hidden rooms and corners? even though you weren’t supposed to, you read your fair share of entertainment from the restricted section of your family’s library. you were far from completely naive, and it was the only explanation that made sense. and that is exactly why and only why you would ever think of heeseung and private places in the same thought.
as the hours fly by, staring at the ceiling you don’t even notice the door open as heeseung storms inside, in pure anger from what it looks like, until he leans over the windowsill trying to catch his breath. his behavior takes you by surprise, having to hide your gasp behind your hand as he stands there fuming. the grip from his knuckles white and his chest rose up and down quickly. from all these months of noticing him, he has never worn an expression other than somber boredom, as if he was thinking about the answers to the universe’s questions all melancholicly. you couldn’t lie and wonder what he had to think about all the time, given that he had everything he could’ve ever asked for. the wealth, family, looks, pride, glory, whatever it is you could ever dream of he had. whatever hard time he was going through, you can’t imagine it being anything more complex than what kind of shoes he wants for the weekend.
as you sit there silently, your face reddens as you realize that you’ve been in the dark, the chances of you being there may have gone unnoticed by him. you clear your throat to which he softly startles and turns to your silhouette on that bed. he blinks rapidly, a feign glimpse of irritation fills his expression before he looks back at the window.
“what are you doing here?” he asks with an annoyed voice. you roll your eyes at his harshness and bite back an insult. teaching him a lesson about some manners would suit him right.
“i could ask you the same thing,” you bite back, hoping that would shut him up and leave you alone.
“i’m the one who showed you this room in the first place, and you’re asking me?”
your ears heat up and you quickly snap back at him.
“i found the garden first and yet i never gave you a hard time-“
he runs his hand through his hair and grunts in an irritating manner, before sitting down on the couch beside the window and getting lost in thought again.
his refusal to get into a superficial argument with you made you realize that perhaps you could’ve just answered him to his curiosity. your presence may have been unexpected as he did tell you about your family returning after all. maybe it was a bit rude of you to try bickering with him as he was evidently going through a rough time, god knows what it is, seeing as he’s always having a rough time. but perhaps this was a sign for you to step it back a bit and have some compassion, even if you weren’t supposed to like him, your heart wasn’t comfortable treating him as if he didn’t have feelings either.
-
even after you bumped heads with heeseung in the room, it didn’t stop you from coming, and it seems like it didn’t stop him either. it was like you both needed an escape. this was sort of like the queen’s garden, this is exactly what it was. you spent enough time there to know he treasured his dramatic thinking sessions just as much as you needed your alone time. but whatever his reasons were didn’t matter to you anyway, his business wasn’t yours and even keeping note of something like this made you shake your head and calm the heat from your face.
you couldn’t disregard how much you two have encountered one another these past few months, from the silent sitting in the garden together to this, and how you have grown to hate him less than you originally did. or maybe you still hate him and his existence was something you will have to tolerate if you wanted some peace for yourself. that peace being a room with four walls.
the painful realization of how much you were trying to rationalize being okay with his presence made you feel like you were reaching into danger territory, and that staying inside these walls for weeks was probably regressing your mental stability more than you thought. thinking about heeseung in any way was inappropriate, he was a stranger at best. he was a rival, an enemy, someone you aren’t supposed to speak to or have relations with. you didn’t speak to him much, so you were in a safe spot. you made note of this, you reassured yourself that whatever this was, was fine.
it makes you self-conscious, and over the next couple of days you’re hyper-aware of his presence in the room even if he is just simply sitting there sulking in his thoughts. your eyes sometimes glance over at him and you blame it on the boredom of this palace with absolutely nothing to do but ponder your relationships with your once sworn enemies.
you think he realizes the difference in behavior as he sometimes raises his brows when he makes eye contact with you in the room and your gaze quickly shifts somewhere else, pretending you weren’t looking in his direction at all.
you grow to spend your nights in that room too, sometimes falling asleep on the bed and waking up to see him still sleeping on that long couch. he was like a roommate almost, if this is even considered a decent living corridor. it had a full bathroom and a wardrobe. it was about the same size as your family’s current guest room. your excuse for staying here is that it’s a bigger space to stay, because what’s worse than having to share a room with your entire family? surely not heeseung? you ask yourself this question and get red when you realize your answer.
-
he sometimes brought you breakfast, almost every day now. you tell yourself that it had nothing to do with kindness and hospitality but something along the lines of duty, like not letting people starve. he only didn’t bring food when he had his eldest son duties and he didn’t show up at all that day. you started keeping track of when he showed up. wednesdays, fridays, saturdays, and sundays. and it was the end of thursday, and he was surely to show up tomorrow. of course the most you were looking forward to was the breakfast that would be laid out on the table, that was exactly why.
you made small talk, asking him for updates on what was going on and he insisted you shouldn’t know and to let everyone else handle it. maybe it was to keep yourself safe in this lonely room, away from the stress of the world. but you wanted to know more, and you insisted on it.
heeseung slowly told you bits and pieces here and there, but more surprisingly he grew to open up about his frustration, his stress. it first started with small complaints of “i just want this over with” to gradually telling you about his struggles with assisting the officials about the war. plans for civilian housing, emergency evacuation, things that you wouldn’t even want to dream about. he talks about how much he’s trying to hold it together, and how hard it’s weighing on him.
a small part of you can’t help but feel for him, in a way you have never before. that he’s just someone who’s your age with much higher stakes and responsibilities. and even if he was used to this his whole life, surely it breaks you at some point. you wonder why he was choosing to open up with you about it.
in return, you talk about how difficult it is to deal with such a strict family. and you two begin to bond over the shared struggle, finding out how much you relate to one another in that regard. ranting about your family values and beliefs was something you had never done before. arguing with them about it hardly counted as a conversation, so to be open about a topic like this was quite foreign. it’s a strange feeling to connect with someone you barely paid attention to your entire life, to realize how close in nature you are with heeseung. but it also made you wary of how much information was too much.
on a cold friday evening, in the middle of you and heeseung talking to each other across the room about the usual nobility rantings, you both hear footsteps coming towards the room. in all your weeks there, never had you heard anyone roam around these hallways as it was such a private part of the palace you were sure no one went here.
immediately you both run to hide inside the small bathroom, shutting the door close right when the room to the door opened. footsteps enter and you thank yourself for tidying the place and bed in the afternoon. nothing appeared on the table next to the couch where you were just sitting, and even if there was a few objects out of place it couldn’t have been enough for anyone to recognize how occupied the room had been.
you can’t make out exactly what they’re saying, faintly something along the lines of how this room isn’t made for family guest rooms and it once belonged to the queen’s closest guests, and entrance without invitation was forbidden. you wonder if heeseung was granted access to this room because of his family’s close ties with the king and queen, and you’re sure this was exactly why. in moments like these it hits you just how much the royals favored his family, which came as a surprise to you as your father had been fighting for a rank besides the king his entire life.
you become impatient with how long it takes for them to argue on the restrictiveness of the room, and you finally hear heeseung’s soft breathing right beside your ear. having focused on what was being said on the opposite side of the door, you didn’t realize how close he was. how his face was a few inches from yours, how you could feel his inhale and exhale.
with the flush in your face, you’re thankful the two of you are standing in pitch-black darkness, only light coming from under the small gap in the door. your face is almost touching his chest as he presses his hands against the door to keep it shut, trapping you in between. trying to to force your head back away from him, you gently meet the door and cringe at the small sound it may have made.
with how quickly you two rushed to the bathroom you don’t think the idea of how close you two were together caught up with either of you until the minutes became too long. and now that you realize the proximity you almost don’t know what to do with yourself. you’re sure he doesn’t realize it either, given how he remains there, still focused on trying to hear what was being said out there. whatever they were talking about left your mind the second you realized his presence. you count down the seconds to get out of here, embarrassed at how he could remain at such a distance, cursing yourself for not just standing at the other side of the bathroom.
once the room was finally quiet after the door on the outside opened and close, he finally backs up and opens the door, allowing you to process what had just happened. to process the feel of his breath faintly touching the tip of your ear.
-
heeseung doesn’t come for a few days, not the wednesday, friday or saturday. and it throws you off routine as those days were usually meant for long conversations with him, and breakfast of course.
you think back to the bathroom incident and question if that made him realize how dangerously close you two were getting. the close meaning of sharing small talk about noble families and simply residing in the same guest room together. it was hardly close, and he would be utterly dramatic for stopping all relations with you if this was the reason why for his strange disappearance. although, with what happened in the bathroom, you wonder if he pondered it over too. how he stood right there, not very far from you in the dark where no one else would’ve saw.
-
it was sunday evening and he came in through the door to which you were not expecting, sporting a black eye and what seemed like a small cut along his cheek. you gasped in horror and he shakes his head to get you to back off with any questions. since when was it appropriate for any child of a high-regarded nobleman to be seen walking around with cuts and bruises? does he have any idea what kind of reputation could form from looking like a street fighter?
you sit there fighting the urge not to do anything as none of this was your business. he may have taken up some fighting lessons on his own maybe and got hit by a forest tree. that made the most sense to you. because heeseung is not suposed to be fighting anyone. your teacher taught you the basics of wound cleaning and dressing, and you recall the kind of treatment needed for the skin on one’s face. he stands there at the windowsill like he always does, gazing out into the night sky as if it was any more interesting by the day.
you sit up and move close to him to see the damage and he doesn’t acknowledge your presence.
“what happened to your eye? and your cheek- it’s bleeding,” you ask gently as possible, a bit of your voice trembling.
he doesn’t answer and you walk into the bathroom to gather some supplies that were stored in one of the drawers. maybe he’ll see how you’re trying to help and take you seriously. enemies or not, being people under the same king meant you were to assist with anyone who was harmed.
he shakes his head again as you bring everything to the table and sit on the couch, waiting for a few minutes in hopes of him finally sitting down. a hundred questions race through your mind. who could do this to one of the most sought out sons within all these noble families? was it an outsider? was it his own? it was no wonder his absence this past week made you feel a bit anxious. there was something wrong.
you urge him to lay down, sitting up from the couch so he has room. he doesn’t move, still staring out there, grip as tight as ever.
you lay out a small bandage, a bowl with warm water, and a towel for him if he decides to use it. embarrassment floods your face at trying to initiate such a gesture, and you quickly put away the rest of the supplies. perhaps you had overstepped a boundary, and you were the last thing he needed to see.
by the time you hit the bed and try to sleep, he had still not moved an inch.
-
you wake up to an empty room, the supplies from last night still laid out on the table but there was also that tray of breakfast you had been missing all week. you hoped he was okay because seeing civilians hurt and bruised would never be something you could ever get used to. supposed enemy or not.
he doesn’t come for a couple of weeks, and you only see him in passing, him looking more worn down than ever. he never meets your gaze either, and you wonder if the connection you thought you two had was something you made up in your head. that in a world where you know nothing about friendship and relationships outside of your family, that what you two shared was nothing to be hopeful for.
you still sleep in that room every night, better than sharing it with your family who have only grown more agitated. being with them meant another headache and the quietness of this private room was your own personal safety net.
everything was going to be okay, there was always a solution to problems, any problem would be met with an answer, and that worrying did nothing. hoping and moping around did nothing. you counted the paint marks on the ceiling, and the walls, you tapped your finger to count the seconds, you did anything to keep yourself occupied.
your thoughts wondered to him, seeing the small wound that was now scabbed on his face. you were sure you could have healed it days ago if he had let you, but maybe it was better this way, not being acknowledged at all. he can care for his own self, you were nothing to him.
-
heeseung walks in that night with a cut lip and a bruised body, his clothes having slash marks with stains of dry blood and you’re horrified once again. to no surprise, he’s standing at the windowsill only this time his eyes were no longer to the window. his head hung forward, gaze steady on the floor. the tiredness seemed gruesome, the usual straight posture he had was not weak and wimp.
you analyzed all the wounds you could see at a distance from the bed. his face was worse than last time and whatever happened to his body made your fingers tremble. staying focused and alert was harder for you this time than last, given the severity of it. maybe he was training, this had to be it. but why would someone like him have to go through military training? none of it made any sense.
for a few minutes, you debate on whether you should try again. know your place, you must know your place. help him, he’s hurting. he doesn’t need your help. his wounds are bleeding.
he interrupts your thoughts by weakly limping to the couch, his hands reaching for the seat to steady himself down. there’s a grimace from him you hadn’t seen before. the blood seeping through the fabric looked old and dirty and you had to fight everything in you not to go up to him and insist once again. you pick at your fingers, anxious on what to do. who can rest when a panting hurting man is on the couch across from them.
“take your clothes off.” you tell him before you can stop yourself, and his eyes that were set on the floor looks up at you in a perplexed manner.
you redden at the double meaning of your words and shook your head in apology. turning your head into your shoulders slightly at how incredibly thoughtless saying that was.
“i’m sorry, i- i meant to take it off because the blood is dry and the wound is old, and keeping that fabric on it will increase the risk of infection. i encourage you to go to the bathroom and clean it up yourself.” you quickly let out all in one breath and he doesn’t move at all.
after an hour or so of you beating yourself up for that awful slip up and even speaking up at all, he walks weakly to the bathroom, spending a very long time in there to which you start to worry.
he appears from the bathroom right when you’re about to sit up and he makes his way back to the couch, his clothes unbuttoned and his cuts opened. you hiss at how it looks and scrunch your face imagining the pain. you try to ignore everything else that is exposed, only trying to look at the wounds.
heeseung decides to lay down this time, head resting on the hard couch pillow, finally laying flat on his back. he gently groans as the couch fabric hits his back and you almost can’t take it anymore. sleep shortly finds him and it is the first time you have seen him asleep before you.
his wounds look bad, really bad. and if you don’t do something you may regret it. there was no way he’d accept your help now, after not speaking for weeks. why did he even come here at all then if he knew you would be here? maybe he was trying to get you to leave this room by keeping it completely abandoned and only coming back after he waited it out. you finally accept that if he wasn’t going to be okay with your help you would do him a slight favor anyway and hope you never have to speak to him again. like a silent healer who snuck into infirmaries for the sick.
you rush to the bathroom, pulling the supplies you once did and move slowly back to the table. your movements are soft, trying not to make a sound as you lay out the cloth pieces and herbs. one herb for each wound, and one piece of fabric as well. you count the pieces to assure everything was correct, and then wet the small towel inside the bowl.
when you turn to him to clean his wounds, you gasp as his eyes are slightly open, fluttering open and shut.
“you- you’re awake? i’m sorry i was just trying to-“ you start trying to explain but his eyes are closed once again.
he didn’t seem to stop you when he saw what you were doing, for who knows how long. silence didn’t mean yes, but you can’t take no for an answer right now anyway, and you gently tend to the wounds on his upper body and arms. it takes a long time, about an hour almost. being as detail-oriented as you were, everything had to be done with precision. not being able to reach his back, you lay out the extra supplies for him if he chooses to use them.
helping him was strange, in the sense that you never really had to help anyone this way at all. being taught the basics of wound care dind’t mean you ever got to apply it. this was all academics, bragging rights, and merit. stuff your teacher taught you as a life skill. to be useful in this way was unfamiliar, but a sense of duty fulfills you. perhaps you did have a purpose in this war, a purpose if at all. you could be a daughter locked away for your parents to control, or you could be a valuable asset to a terrible time where lives are lost and injured left and right. you cared for his wounds because this is something you are innately born to do, to help and assist the sick and the ill. this was the explanation you chose for yourself while working on heeseung, this was what you were to believe.
as you check through every bandage one last time, his eyes open slowly again, blinking open a few times.
you still yourself, your right hand still touching the bandage near his chest. it felt childish to act like you were caught doing something like your mom seeing you sneaking in a sweet to your room. you freeze anyway, hoping he would fall asleep again. please just fall asleep again, rest yourself heeseung.
he doesn’t close his eyes for what felt like minutes when it was really only 10 seconds. he lets out a soft breath, closing his eyes as if he were squirming, opening them again. you look down at his chest and stomach area and see the medicine seeping through the bandages, most likely hitting his flesh now. his gaze is still on you, and his hands are about to reach up to his chest where your hands are, to which you assumed he was trying to slap your fingers away.
before he can make it to your hand, his wrist collapses weakly at his side, fingers twitching from the pain of the cut down his sleeve and your first instinct is to reach out to make sure he was okay, to reach for his hand and assess it in your own.
maybe it was the caring nature in you that goes out of your way to help any creature in pain but a small part of you brushed away the idea that perhaps there was the beginning of a subconscious care you had for him.
whatever it was, there was no time to dissect complex feelings when it seemed like everyone around you was reaching a breaking point, mentally or physically. and with the rate of which everyone was going down one by one, the question of whether this war will end soon or has just begun haunts you.

“Mhm! Fuck, just like that…” Throwing his head back at the intense pleasure shooting through his veins, Heeseung couldn’t help but let out loud high pitched moans feeling her insert his whole length into her throat, the wetness and tightness of her warm throat just making him feel so lightheaded he might pass out. Never in his entire life has he received so much pleasure from just receiving head, hell he’s only ever came once from getting his dick sucked, not counting his first time. Taking his length out of her mouth with a small quiet pop, she slowly began to stroke him, tightening her grip when she reached the tip
“And you said this is your first time giving head?” he panted out, hissing when she leaned down to suck on the red tip tasting the salty precum that slowly oozed out.
Y/n nodded her head, taking his dick out once more and stroked him at a good pace. “Sorta, I've sucked dick once but he came way too quickly for me to enjoy it.'' She honestly couldn’t help admiring Heeseungs cock, it's one of the prettiest ones she's ever seen and the biggest. “Are you telling me you like sucking cock pretty girl?” he slightly teased, pulling her head back and leaned down, faces only inches apart. She just looked way too pretty not to stare at, her swollen lips, the slight tears that were gathered on her waterline, and even her flushed face. Fuck he had to kiss her. Without thinking twice he connected their lips, not wasting a second to stick his tongue into her mouth.
The taste of himself in her mouth made him groan “Shit” he moaned into the kiss as she sped up her movements “hmm, I wanna suck you off!” she whined, pulling away from the kiss and looking at him with a pout.
God, he almost felt as if he was about to come right there just from her words itself “How could I say no to a pretty thing like you, huh?” He cooed, bringing his hand down to caress her cheek. Smiling cheekily at him she slowly leaned her down towards his lower center, eyes not looking away from him as she opened her mouth and wrapped her lips around his tip, giving him a few sucks before taking his whole length into her mouth and bobbing her head up and down. His moans incougered her to take him in deeper, gagging as the tip hit the back of her throat. “Fuck i’m so close!” Heeseung felt the knot in the pit of his stomach almost burst, but he couldn’t cum just yet he wanted to fuck her as a reward for making him feel so good.
Y/n could tell he was seconds to coming so taking matters into her own hands she reached to cup one of his balls, “wa-wait y/n… ahh f-fuck!” He wasn't able to pull her off fast enough, he felt himself come in her mouth, ropes and ropes of cum shooting out the tip. She pulled away, watching in awe as his cum continued to squirt out “son of a-“ he breathed out, slightly shaking from the aftershock of his orgasm.
He was fucked.

Both of them would be quiet, like the type of quiet where you can hear a fly fly pass by. Is just their way to show they are currently jealous because they just saw a article about how your like half of the male idols ideal type. They know how pretty you are, I mean your the face of lots of famous brand, you have such a sweet and angelic personality and they can’t help but think if you would leave them for those other male idols. They are just a bit insecure baby that are still trying to get use to dating such a gorgeous girl but these bad thoughts are really getting to them. So they would go up to you and ask.
“Hey love…why are you so quiet? Are you okay?”
“Sweetie.. this is kinda stupid but will you ever leave me?”
“No I would never! You treat me so well! Why you think I would?”
“Because I saw a article about how a lot of handsome male idols ideal type is you..”
“Ah~ that’s why.. but don’t worry my love you would always be my number 1 and I would never leave you!”
They would feel so much better afterwards and would ask for you to shower them with lots of love and kisses. You would secretly posting a pictures of you both on Instagram just to show off how cute your relationship is!!
your very grateful for them and you hope they would never think you would leave them for other males.
박종성 Park Jeongseong + 심재윤 Sim Jaeyun +성훈 Sunghoon
WHOOP WHOOP WE GOT THE POSSESSIVE TRIO!! They know you would never leave them, because they know how down bad you are for them and they know you both are like missing pieces of puzzles that could never be separated. But when he overhears other male idols talking about how your their type. They instantly get jealous. No they won’t stay quiet either they will tell you about it. (Also they are the type to make the other males know they have zero chance with you!!)
“y/n love you know your mine right?”
“Hmm? Yeah of course where are you getting this from?”
“Some stupid idols say your their ideal type just want to tell you that your too gorgeous for them.”
“UH LMAO..? Thank you?? But like I would never leave you for them trust me baby.”
“Of course I know.. just want to let you know you belong to me, we stick together forever.”
“Forever and always.”
Would talk about you on interviews and the media would go crazy about it. He isn’t doing it for the views or attention, Is because he loves you so much and wants to show you off. (maybe also a warning for the male idols to stay away from you)
희 승 heeseung + にしむら りき Nishimura Riki
the ones that would laugh about it but deep down is jealous. They would come across a compilation of male idols saying your their ideal type. And they would laugh about it at first and would show it to you. You would start laughing as well cuz how silly that those idols think they have a huge chance with them as well. Which that’s when they stopped laughing and joking around, and just sat there in silent. You would be so confuse why their mood change so fast, werent they laughing just 5 seconds ago and now they are silent..? They are basically babies that wants comforting and are scared you would leave them :(
“Hey bub Are you okay? Why are you silent now..?”
silent.
“did I do something wrong? Are you thinking about something?”
“Nothing is just you started laughing after I showed you the video of compilation of other males saying your their type. I don’t know..maybe you thought they were cute…”
“Oh my gosh no my love!! I just thought it was funny how they think they have a chance with me. Never think like that okay? Your the cutest out of everyone in this world! I love you so much I would never leave you.”
“Thank you darling I love you more.”
You guys continue to laugh at the video afterwards while cuddling cause somehow to you both is entertaining. You both are just couple goals

You and Heeseung have been together for a while, you moved in not too long ago and things were good until last week . . . The two of you got into a pretty nasty argument, it was so bad Heeseung even slept on the couch, it honestly made you feel bad about fighting over such a small thing, but part of you didn’t care since you felt like it was his fault, obviously Heeseung is just as stubborn as you are and thinks it not that big of a deal.
It is, at least for you! Well one night you were in the kitchen making dinner for only yourself, Heeseung notices this and comes up to you leaning against the counter, “you only made yourself food?” He said calmly running his fingers through his hair, “yes I did, I don’t make food for someone who thinks it’s not that big a deal when they skip movie night even when they promised!” You say rolling your eyes at him. Heeseung eyes you down his gaze lingering on you lips before shrugging, “And I still think it’s not that big of a deal” he says leaning closer to you, but you inch away frowning at him. “And that’s why you don’t get feed!” You say as you walk over to the fridge to grab a drink, Heeseung pouts at your words coming up before you and wrapping his arms around your waist squeezing. You push into him causing his grip on you to loosen, he lets go of your waist feeling annoyed.
You turn to look at him eyeing him down and he frowns at you, running his fingers through his hair saying “baby..come on you can’t stay mad at me forever.” You roll your eyes scoffing “yes I can, hee.” You say grabbing you plate and sitting down on the couch turning the TV on to watch the movie you and Heeseung we’re gonna watch just to spite him. Heeseung groans in annoyance as he sit down on the couch scrolling through his phone, look glanced over at him a few times the guilt starting to get to you, you set your plate down on the coffee table as you inch closer to him your heart sinks when you notice his eyes are teary and his sniffling.
“Baby..?” You say softly as you sit on his lap lifting his chin to look him in the eyes, Heeseung frowns sniffling as he avoids eye contact. “Baby..I’m sorry I didn’t mean too, you’re right it’s not that big of a deal!! I’m sorry for being a bitch..” you say trying apologize the best you can but Heeseungs still upset with you.
“How can I make it better??” You ask, Heeseung looks at you with an annoyed look shrugging, “figure it out.” He says coldly. “Fine I will figure it out.” You say as you slide down in between his leg, tugging at the hem of his sweatpants, but he stops you grabbing you hand shake his hand, you look up blankly at him a bit confused, “don’t you want me to-“ he cuts you off pulling you back onto his lap. “I’d rather watch you ride my thigh then suck my dick, baby..” he says with a playful smirk. You look up at with a confused look. “That’s new you usually love it when on my hands and knees why not now?” You say tilting your head. “What it’s hot, plus I wanna watch your pretty face when you come..” Heeseung says biting his lip brushing loose strands of your hair out of you face, his hands grab onto your waist grinding your clothed heat against his thigh. “Come on please do this for me..” he whines in a begging tone. You can’t help letting a soft moan at the feeling of grinding against his thigh, you hands gripping his forearm tightly, your hips having a mind of their own. “Fuck you so cute..good girl..” Heeseung Praises as he watches you with a smirk on his face. “Such a good girl for me, doing what I asked her to do…” he says with a teasing tone, his hands rubbing at your thighs. “So do you forgive me..?” You whine your thighs shaking as ask. Heeseung smirks twirling a strand of your hair around his fingers “if you come, then yeah..But if you don’t then no”
You whine looking at him with an annoyed look, holding back a moan as you speak “so you’re telling me, me getting off- turns you on..?” Heeseung looks at you with a smile licking his lips with a nod as he lean into you pressing his lips against yours, as your hips continue grinding.
Heeseung slips his hand under your shirt cupping tit squeezing and tugging at the soft skin, his eyes watching you lovingly as he leans into you again kissing down your neck, leaving small bite marks as he goes. “You’re doing good, princess..keep it up..” he says his voice dripping with desire as his other hand grips onto your waist as you continue grinding yourself on his thigh, your pace quickening. “Close already..?” Heeseung teases lifting your chin to watch your face twist and turn with need. You whined desperately your legs shaking as you come undone on his thigh, your shorts and panties soaking wet, Heeseung bites his lip watching as you rubs your back, “good girl..did so well im so proud of you..” he says in a soft tone as he lifts you up into his lap, his eyes glancing at the small patch of wetness on his sweatpants. “You feel good baby..?” He ask as he rubs your back his other hand rubbing the inside of your thigh. You nod but look up at him, “are you still mad at me..?” You ask breathlessly. Heeseung holds back a chuckle cupping your cheek in his hand as he kissing your forehead, “no I could never stay mad at you princess..”.
Heeseung and you spend the rest of the night snuggled up close to each other watching the movie he promised to watch with you.

#89ACAD | LEE HEESEUNG.
genre | fluff
word count | 1242
warning | mentions of alcohol + being drunk / puke
note | my parents take care of each other when they're drunk. it's fascinating.

one hundred and twenty-one days. heeseung couldn't believe it, but he found another thing dissatisfying about you.
you filled the atmosphere with the scent of alcohol, the kind consumed by someone with an alcohol intolerance. you colored the air with slurred-out lies, the kind told by someone who overestimated their threshold for beer. and, last but not least, you tired heeseung out like a dead weight on his back, the kind he allowed, the kind he would never abandon.
"you're so annoying! i'm not drunk," you exclaimed the first part, then you barely slurred out the second as you dropped your head on heeseung's shoulder.
your boyfriend sighed. he expected you to have some drunken fun with your friends on a night out, but he didn't anticipate you would drink to the point of stumbling through only a few steps. he vividly remembered the awkward smiles on your friends' faces after they escorted you out of the restaurant, all of them a stranger to him. he preferred it that way; he wasn't the friendliest man to walk the earth.
your shared apartment was an uphill walk made for cars to drive on, but it was a convenient shortcut for those threading through the area on two feet. heeseung liked the shortcut—it was fast and a hefty exercise. not with you on his back. that would just be torture. but he thought he ought to return home as quickly as possible before your drunkenness decided it was time to act out. it always did. he always took care of it and complained about it in his head about how he would much instead you never drink again for his sake.
looking at the uphill road, he unknowingly leaned his head toward the side of his shoulder you were laying on to get a sense of your status—quiet from exhaustion, still slurring about not being drunk.
as he took great, big strides upwards, your arm's grip around his neck began loosening. heeseung thought it would be funny to allow the both of you to roll down the slope because he wanted to know how you would remember it the next day or how you wouldn't remember it. he always wanted to know your version of shared memories, even if he deliberately created them. like eating breakfast together; it was an activity he was present for, but what if he didn't know how the coffee mug felt in your grip on some particular morning? or if the air was clearer on your side of the table? he wanted to know how you saw things—he may as well ask for your eyes on his birthday in exchange for his.
"heeseung..."
"hmm?" he huffed in a low grunt as he hoisted you on his back. he didn't stop walking. he didn't think his ankles could handle standing on a hill.
you pursed your lips together. he didn't see your cheeks puff out and your brows furrow. "heeseung..."
"what? we're almost home," he said.
"hee–" you puked over his shoulder.
one hundred and twenty-one days. heeseung couldn't believe it, but he found another thing dissatisfying about you—your alcohol intolerance and your stubbornness to drink beyond that.
the acidic taste in your mouth was uncomfortable, even worse than having puke stains spluttered over your lower jaw and down your clean shirt because somehow you were the one with fat tears rolling down your face. your senses returned for one moment to hit you with what disgust you've done, realizing your internal fluids were splattered on an attractive boy and the gaps in your knuckles. then all you did was cry.
heeseung waited for the seconds to be over, wishfully thinking he may be hallucinating. he was not—he never was. his left shoulder smelt of rotten food and bubbles of alcohol, or whatever it actually smelt of.
as your cries entered his ear, he reprimanded himself for his inability to stay home and wait for your return. but the thought of you stumbling through the streets alone, drunk or not, and the idea of you sobbing in a corner alone, drunk or not, were appalling. worse than the disaster on his back he learned to deal with. worse enough he found out he might be able to find you through your invisible footprints if you ever got lost coming home while incapacitated.
heeseung glanced behind him at the floor and pursed his lips. he could, somehow. he could sniff and recognize what the outdoor ground looks like after you walk on it. brick by brick, step by step. he could recognize you like a dog.
"that's so ugly, heeseung! i'm sorry!" you wailed as you wiped your face with the puke-stained hand.
he stared at you in disappointment. after everything, the truth was that he hated this. he hated that you drank and that you were hard to live with. your sloppiness clashed with his own, and neither of you was clean enough to make your apartment presentable. he disliked that you sleep through all the alarms that woke him up every day. you slam doors shut and utensils on the table when there was never a reason to be so aggressively clumsy. you leave the floor wet after showering. you lay things everywhere. you puke on him. you vomit on yourself. you never take care of yourself. you make him worry.
"you're so dirty," heeseung muttered as he grabbed the middle of his shirt and raised it enough to wipe your face clean. "you stink."
his words flew over your head because his touch was soft and caring. your wails were reduced to tearful hiccups so quickly he wondered if you were genuinely upset at all. your lashes drowned in your tears, making them prominent and outstanding, and heeseung tried to dry them with his thumb. he smiled when you squeezed your eye shut out of sensitivity, not putting effort into dodging him.
"you're all done crying?" he asked, squeezing your cheeks.
you sniffed and nodded in response. "i'm not drunk."
"okay," he agreed nonchalantly. there wasn't anything else he wanted to do. "you're not."
out of all the things he has learned to dislike about you, perhaps within these one hundred and twenty-one days, knowing that he loved you to the point of occasionally yearning for those distastes was the only one he cared about. because perhaps being able to learn about them meant a particular release in this relationship. the opening of a door, the entrance of the awakening that this may last forever.
longer than his life could, than your life could. your love, your togetherness lasts. in the dusty corner of your apartment that would surely outlive you. in an abandoned hair clip someone else would find lost under a shelf because you could never hold onto one long enough. in the air, scented with the shared body wash of a couple who has never changed their shower equipment. in the position of the window and the morning sun seeping into your bedroom to give the shirt you have haphazardly thrown on the floor a free bath.
one hundred and twenty-one days. all the things he disliked about you, and the one 'i love you' that mattered.
"you wanna go home now? hmm?" heeseung asked as he held out his hand. "i'm tired. we should shower and sleep."
you took his hand. he ignored the weird, slimy feeling of it.

Read part 1 here

Thursdays are Heeseung’s favourite day. Once his afternoon lecture is finished (his final class of the week) he goes straight to the Gamestop that’s down the street from his apartment. He had already browsed the sales bin on Tuesday, so he knows exactly what he’s getting. Although nowadays, Ari graciously puts the games on hold rather than Heeseung having to strategically hide them from other eager cheapskates. He buys his games and talks to Ari about his day before going to the ice cream parlour across the street.
There, he’ll order a double scoop of Rainbow Sherbet and play a few rounds of the new game he picked up for his switch (making sure to at least pass a few of the levels before Niki can get his hands on it). After about an hour, he will order another double scoop - this time strawberry.
A minute or two will pass before Ari walks into the shop and takes the ice cream with a bright smile and energetic thank you. She’s told him he doesn’t have to buy her one but has gradually accepted the fact that he always will. Heeseung will play a few more rounds while Ari finishes her cold treat, before the two walk back over to the Gamestop, getting into Ari’s car and driving towards Heeseung’s apartment.
They will stop at the grocery store on the way (because no matter how many lists he writes, Heeseung always forgets something). Despite only needing one thing they’ll spend a good 20 minutes browsing the aisles, looking at fancy wine bottles that are completely out of their price range and comparing the calories in different cereal brands - as if either of them care about the calories. Then, they’ll leave the store, their single item in hand, and continue their trip back to Heeseung’s apartment.
Niki will be waiting at the door when they arrive, immediately complaining about being hungry. Heeseung will scold him for being impatient, whilst Ari laughs and apologises for being late. She says they’ll be quicker next time and the empty promise seems to ease Niki’s attitude.
Sometimes Ari sleeps over. Sometimes she doesn’t. However, if it does start to get late and Ari gets a little too tired to drive (or too drunk, depending on the evening), Heeseung will allow Niki to sleep in his bed to make space for Ari on the couch. It’s impractical - having three people sleeping in a one-bedroom apartment. And lord knows Heeseung would much prefer to have Ari cuddled up next to him. But it works. And waking up to Ari making breakfast in his kitchen is definitely worth sleeping with a snoring teenage blanket hog.

“Hyung.”
Heeseung scrunches his nose slightly, rolling over to avoid the dreaded noise that’s interrupting his sleep.
“Hyung!”
He buries his head under the pillow, mumbling a jumble of words as he attempts to cling to whatever's left of his slumber.
“I guess I’ll just go eat breakfast with Ari without you then.”
This gets his attention, as Heeseung stretches out his limbs and reluctantly opens his eyes, only to be met with Niki looking down at him. “You’re such a simp.” He says, playfully hitting his older friend on the head before walking out of the room. Heeseung joins him shortly after, walking slowly as his body takes time to fully wake.
“Morning sleepyhead.” Ari’s cheerful voice floats through the kitchen. Heeseung mumbles out a good morning, giving her a gentle head pat before sitting down at the table with Niki. “We forgot to get pancake mix but I found a recipe online that this woman made. So if they’re shit, blame Kelly.” Ari says, placing the pancakes and toppings on the table. “Nothing you make is shit.” Heeseung says, making Ari smile thankfully at him. He can’t tell if she’s blushing or if the morning sun is just casting a glowing hue on her skin. He likes to think it’s the first one.
“So… what’s everyone’s plans for the day?” Ari asks, shoving a fork full of pancakes into her mouth. “I’ve got a maths test.” Niki frowns. “Ew.” Ari comments, matching the younger boy's energy. “Yeah, ew. And I have to catch the bus because Jay is busy helping Sunghoon move and this idiot doesn’t have his licence.” Niki complains, shooting a glare towards Heeseung. “I have a licence, I just don’t have a car.” Heeseung shrugs. “Well get one!” “If I could afford a car, do you think you would be sleeping on a couch?”
Ari laughs slightly at their bickering. “I’ll give you a ride, Niki.” She says, stopping the argument as soon as she begins to speak. “Thanks, Ari. It’s nice to have someone who cares about my education.” “Taking the bus has nothing to do with your education!”
“Heeseung, what are you doing today?”Ari asks, breaking the argument once again. “Uh… I’ll be helping Sunghoon move for a couple of hours and then I’ve got work tonight.” Heeseung smiles. “Jeez, how many people are helping him move?” Ari asks, eyebrows furrowed. “Well… it’s not like he needs us to help. He’s just the first one out of the friend group to move in with his partner, so they’re making it this big thing.” Heeseung shrugs.
No one was surprised when Sunghoon and Y/n announced that they were moving in together. Mainly because Y/n was basically living with Jake and Sunghoon anyway and the two had talked about getting their own place for quite a while. But since they are the first couple in the group to get an apartment together (they are also currently the only couple in the group) everyone is making it a bigger deal than it needs to be.
“Do you need a ride too?” Ari asks, causing Heeseung to nod sheepishly. “That’s fine, I don’t mind playing Uber driver.” She smiles. “But you’ve gotta get ready quickly, I’ve got class this morning.” Ari adds, causing the boys to immediately shove as much food into their mouths as possible.

Driving with Ari is nice. She always has the air conditioner on - not too hot, not too cold. Her playlist is the perfect mix of old classics and new songs that Heeseung secretly Shazams from the passenger seat. And if he’s lucky, he’ll get to hear her quietly singing along if she’s in a particularly happy mood.
As Ari pulls into the carpool lane, behind the many cars of parents dropping off their children, Heeseung can’t help but laugh slightly. “What are you laughing at?” Niki accuses, doing a last-minute check through his bag. “Nothing. I just feel like a dad dropping his kid off.” Heeseung says, causing Ari to giggle slightly. “Does that make me his mom, then?” She asks, causing Heeseung’s face to immediately burn a dark shade of pink. Niki notices this and smirks to himself, deciding to hold his tongue. He can make fun of him later.
“Well… I’ve gotta go. Bye Mom, bye Dad.” Niki teases, opening the car door and getting out. He slings his bag over his shoulder before making his way towards a boy waiting for him - someone Ari quickly recognised as Jungwon. She sends him a wave, which he enthusiastically returns, before driving off.
“Are you free this Sunday?”
The sudden question breaks through the song that’s currently playing, causing Ari to turn her attention to Heeseung. “The whole day?” She asks. “Okay… from 5 pm onwards?” Heeseung clarifies, rolling his eyes playfully at her nitpicking. “I can be.” Ari hums, momentarily turning her attention back to the road. “Why?” She asks. “Sunghoon and Y/n are having dinner and drinks… kinda like a housewarming party and I was wondering if you would want to come?”
The way he asks seems so nonchalant but Ari can tell it’s anything but. Apart from Niki (and Jungwon from the one time she gave him a ride to school), she hasn't met the rest of Heeseung’s friends. She wasn’t even sure if he had wanted her to meet them - it’s not like she’s anything more than a friend herself.
“I can come.” Ari says after a moment of thought. “Who else is gonna be there?” She adds, hoping to at least hear some familiar names. “It’s just our friend group, so myself, Niki, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo and Jungwon - and then Y/n and their friends, Ningning and Yuna.” Heeseung rambles off.
Okay, a few of the other names sound familiar (Ari is certain she’s had at least one conversation with this Jay person). Despite this event being far from formal, Ari can’t help feeling slightly nervous about meeting Heeseung’s friends. She’s not an idiot; she knows the way he talks about her to other people. As flattering as it is, not everyone sees her the way that Heeseung does. She’d hate for his friends to be disappointed when reality does not match the perfect fantasy that Heeseung describes.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to though.” Ari only just realises that Heeseung has been talking this entire time. “No, I’ll come. It sounds like fun.” She smiles, Heeseung’s expression quickly mirroring her own.

“Heeseung’s here!”
You’d think he was a celebrity with all the people greeting him at the door to Sunghoon and Y/n’s apartment. “Geez, you weren’t kidding when you said this was a whole thing.” He says, counting to see their entire university group sitting on the floor of what’s about to be the living room.
“More people means less work.” Sunghoon shrugs, immediately placing some kind of tool in Heeseung’s hand. “Mind passing this to Jake? He’s trying to build the TV unit.” Sunghoon says, putting emphasis on trying. “The instructions are in Swedish!” Jake whines from the other side of the room, aggressively flipping through what Heeseung assumes is the instruction manual.
“I thought you guys weren’t coming until Sunday?” Heeseung asks, taking notice of Yuna and Ningning - who are currently looking through a box of what appears to be stuff from their old apartment. “Y/n wanted us to set up some of their stuff while they’re at work.” Ningning says, pulling out a half-dead house plant. “Hey wait, this is mine!” She complains.
“Speaking of Sunday, did you invite your girlfriend?” Jay asks, causing Heeseung to groan. “She’s not my girlfriend.” He tries to defend, only earning snickers from his friends. “I’m serious! She’s just as much my friend as… Yuna is.” Heeseung claims, immediately causing Yuna’s face to fall. “Ew, don’t drag me into this.” She says.
“Is Ari coming or not? Y/n wants me to confirm numbers.” Sunghoon asks. “She’s coming.” Heeseung nods. “But you guys better not pull any of this girlfriend shit, okay? I don’t want you making her uncomfortable.” He adds, causing everyone in the room to nod.

That top’s too revealing. That one’s too prudish. This one is cute, but now the pants don’t match. And does she bring a jacket? Ari doesn’t even know where Sunghoon and Y/n live, let alone if they have an outdoor space.
Sighing, she changes into yet another outfit choice - deciding some jeans, a simple top and a light jacket will do. Why does she care so much about meeting Heeseung’s friends? It’s not like it’s dinner with the queen.
Oh god, she didn’t even think about hair and makeup! Should she just stick to her everyday thing? Or does she go a little nicer? After all, she does want to make a good first impression.
Ari’s rushing thoughts get interrupted by the sound of the doorbell ringing 5 times exactly - and she immediately knows it’s Heeseung and Niki (Niki does things in 5s because it’s the year he was born and he claims it gives him good luck). She opens the door to reveal the two guys, who immediately push their way into her apartment.
“You look so pretty, Noona!” Niki says, earning an eye roll from Heeseung. It’s not that he doesn’t agree with Niki’s words - but he knows he’s only saying them to annoy him. “Thanks, Niki… but I just look normal.” Ari laughs, patting the younger boy's head as she walks past him. “You guys came earlier than I thought… I still haven’t done my hair or makeup.” She says sheepishly. “We can wait.” Heeseung says, smiling at Ari. “I’ll only be like 20 minutes.” Ari promises before rushing off to her room.
A few minutes pass before Heeseung makes his way down the hall, creaking open the door to Ari’s room and spotting her sitting at the vanity. “Everything going okay?” He asks, leaning against the doorframe, smiling slightly as Ari looks at him through the mirror. “Yeah, I’m just trying to squeeze a 30-minute makeup routine into 10.” Ari jokes, lifting her head to blend the foundation down her neck. Heeseung makes his way into the bedroom, flicking the light on in the process which causes Ari to send him a quick thank you. “Is there a way I can help?” He asks, earning another laugh from Ari. “Not unless you’re secretly a hairstylist.” She jokes.
Heeseung’s eyes fall to her hair, and he has to resist the urge to run his hands through it. “What were you gonna do with it?” He asks. “Probably just brush it… clip my bangs back.” She mumbles, trying her best to answer the question whilst still concentrating on her contour.
Without thinking, Heeseung reaches for the brush that’s sat on her vanity, not missing the way Ari’s lips turn up into a smile at the action. He begins to gently drag the brush through her hair, making sure to be careful enough to not pull. Now, he doesn’t even resist subtly running his fingers through the strands - hoping to play it off as styling.
Ari attempts to split her attention evenly between doing her makeup and watching Heeseung through her mirror. His gentle touches cause her heart to flutter slightly as she quickly looks away, applying blush to her cheeks to hide the fact that she’s actually blushing.
“Where are your clips?” Heeseung asks suddenly, causing her to look up at him. She reaches forwards to grab the box of hairpins she keeps on her vanity. “Here… pick whatever you want.” She says, handing the box to him. Ari has to bite back the smile that threatens to spread across her face as Heeseung puts his full concentration into picking the hairpins. He eventually settles on two strawberry ones, bringing his hands carefully towards Ari’s bangs. The soft graze of his fingers against her forehead leaves a small tingle on the skin, and Ari can’t help but watch in awe as he meticulously lays the strand in place before securing it with the clip. He then moves to the other side, repeating the action with the same precision and care as the first time.
Once finished, Heeseung’s eyes meet Ari’s - which are watching him through the mirror. “Hi.” He mumbles, softly smiling at her. She returns the gesture, whispering a small “hi” back. It’s silent for a moment as the two look at each other through the mirror. “You’re beautiful.” Heeseung suddenly confesses, causing Ari’s face to burn even more than it already was.
It’s been a while since Heeseung had called her beautiful. Not since that night in her car, where he confessed his feelings. The night where he promised to wait for her, as long as she’d let him.
Neither of them had brought it up since. It had been awkward for about a week before things went straight back to normal - almost as if Heeseung had never confessed at all. Well, things went back to normal for Heeseung, that is. For Ari however, the confession made her see Heeseung in a new light, and she had to fight the urge to run to him and take her rejection back. Because she knew she wasn’t ready for another relationship, but god, did Heeseung make her want to try.
That was months ago now, and the thoughts of what it would be like to actually date Heeseung are constantly in the back of her mind. Whenever he does things like this - gently stroking her hair and calling her beautiful, the thoughts push to the forefront and she has to restrain herself from completely jumping on the man. He’s just so lovely and kind… and he waited. But still, she hesitates. Because what if she made him wait too long? What if, now that she’s finally ready to return his feelings, they’re not there anymore?
“Ari?” Heeseung’s voice breaks her out of her trance, along with a soothing head pat. Ari hums, snapping her attention away from Heeseung and back to her own reflection. “Are you finished with your makeup?” He asks, fingers still gently running through the strands of her hair. She nods, not trusting her brain to form a coherent sentence as her focus splits between Heeseung’s words and the feeling of his fingers.
“Are you guys done?” Niki calls from the lounge, causing Heeseung to pull away at the sudden noise. “I’ve been waiting for ages!” Heeseung rolls his eyes at Niki’s complaint, mumbling that he’ll go “take care of him”. Ari watches as Heeseung walks out of the room, and finally gets a second to calm down her racing heart. What the hell just happened?

“I’m just saying, I literally called shotgun.” Niki pouts from his position in the backseat. “Would you drop it?” Heeseung asks, rolling his eyes. “No, this is Rikiphobic. You’re friends with Ari, I’m friends with Ari. Why do you get special treatment?” Niki complains. “You can ride up front on the way home, okay?” Ari negotiates, causing Heeseung to look at her confused. Now it’s his turn to whine and complain.
“Seriously? He’s a kid, Ari! Kids sit in the back.”
“I’m almost 18!”
“Emphasis on almost. You can sit in the front when you graduate.”
“That’s not fair! You just want to keep her all to yourself.”
“Um… the ‘her’ is right here, and I already said Niki is sitting in the front on the way back, so no more arguing.” Ari interrupts the two of them, causing Niki to cheer in the back. Heeseung rolls his eyes once again but chooses not to argue, not wanting to upset Ari. He doesn’t have a real reason as to why he sits in the front - maybe it’s because of age, maybe it’s because Ari was his friend first, maybe it’s because part of him feels that he and Ari are more than just friends.

“I’m nervous.” Ari laughs as the three make their way towards Sunghoon and Y/n’s door. “Don’t be, you’re cooler than most of the people here.” Heeseung says, causing her to laugh and slap his shoulder. “And if anyone gives you shit, hyung and I will fight them for you.” Niki says, puffing out his chest as if to back up his words. “No one is fighting anyone and no one will give you shit. They’re all super nice, I promise.” Heeseung says, giving Ari’s shoulder a reassuring squeeze before reaching forward to ring the doorbell.
It’s quiet for a moment before the door is swung open, revealing a grinning Sunghoon along with Y/n hanging off his arm. “You guys made it!” Sunghoon exclaims, opening his arms widely to welcome the guests into the home. “Sorry about him, he’s already had a few beers. We’re glad you guys could come.” Y/n smiles, patting Sunghoon’s chest. “Babe, why don’t you finish telling Sunoo your story, hmm?” Y/n offers, laughing slightly as Sunghoon quickly untangles himself from their grasp and practically runs back to the living room.
“It’s not even dinner time yet and he’s already like this?” Heeseung asks, causing Y/n to scratch the back of their neck sheepishly. “He’s had a long week so we might have started drinking a little early… but the girls are tricking him into doing water shots so he should sober up pretty quick.” Y/n says before turning their attention to Ari. “You must be Ari! Heeseung’s told us so much about you. I’m Y/n, Sunghoon’s partner.” They introduce themself, smiling as Ari politely bows back. “Anyway, help yourself to food and drinks, bathroom is down the hall, first door to your left and… yeah, make yourself at home.” Y/n says, leading the three towards the living room, where the rest of the guests are.
“Hee-man! Niki Minaj! You guys made it!” Jake exclaims as they walk into the room. “And you must be the girlfr- Ari, you must be Ari.” He adds, attempting to play off the almost slip-up. Heeseung sends Jake a glare that Ari thankfully doesn’t notice. Ari didn’t seem to notice Jake’s slip-up either, as she smiles politely at him.
“I am, you’re Jake?” She asks, causing his eyes to light up. “That’s me! Infamous Jake Sim… I’m sure Heeseung told you all about me.” He winks, slinging his arm around Heeseung’s shoulder and giving him a playful shake. “Oh, she’s heard stories alright. Like the time when you were drunk and you-” Heeseung is cut off by Jake’s hand clamping down over his mouth, the Australian boy whining for him to stop trying to embarrass him.
“Do you want a drink, Noona? Jay-hyung makes nice cocktails.” Niki says, pointing to one of the boys who are standing in the kitchen - talking with Jungwon. “And how would you know?” Ari raises an eyebrow, causing him to smile sheepishly. “I mean… I heard he makes nice cocktails.” He attempts to save. Ari hums suspiciously before Niki drags her towards Jay and Jungwon.
“Hyung! Make Ari a cocktail.” He says, pushing Ari towards the two boys. “Not a strong one
please, I’m driving this idiot home.” She adds on. “You sure? Might need one if you’re on babysitting duty.” Jay jokes, making Ari laugh slightly. “Well between myself and Heeseung, someone has to be the sober one.” She laughs, looking at Heeseung across the room - who Jake and Sunghoon have managed to rope into doing shots. The boys take note of the way Ari watches their friend fondly - Jungwon giving Jay a knowing nudge. They chose not to comment though, after all, they promised not to mention the whole dating thing.
“A light cocktail for the lady.” Jay winks, handing Ari the drink that he made. Her eyes light up with excitement as she happily takes the drink from him, letting out a grateful “thanks” before taking a sip of the red concoction. The refreshing berry flavour immediately hits her taste buds, sweet and light in a way that contrasts the slight bitterness of the alcohol.
“How did you know I love berries?” She asks, raising an eyebrow at Jay suspiciously, who only shrugs and laughs. “Ask Heeseung.” He replies vaguely, laughing even more when Jungwon whines at him to “stop being weird”.
“I think Y/n and their friends are in the kitchen if you wanna join them. It’s better than hanging out with stinky boys.” Niki says, pointing Ari in the direction of the kitchen. “Is Sunoo not a stinky boy?” Jungwon asks, causing Niki to wave him off. “Sounds like you’re just trying to get me to leave.” She jokes, causing Niki to roll his eyes and playfully push her towards the door. “You caught me.” He says sarcastically.
Entering the kitchen, Ari immediately spots Y/n and their friends crowded together, staring at a phone.
“I’m telling you, pepperoni is the way to go.”
“That’s so basic! And you know Jake will just eat the whole thing!”
“That’s why we should get hawaiian!”
“Pineapple on pizza is literally a crime.”
“I’m going to pretend you didn’t say that in order to save our friendship.”
“Am I interrupting something?” Ari asks, causing the four friends to look at her. Y/n immediately breaks out into a smile as they gesture for Ari to join the group. “Thank god you’re here, we’re trying to pick what pizzas to get.” Y/n says, showing Ari the phone. “But these guys are being absolutely no help.” They add, sending a sour face to the friends.
“You’re just mad that no one wants pepperoni.” One of the girls jokes, earning an eye roll from Y/n. “Ning, you literally suggested Hawaiian so you can’t talk.” Y/n replies, causing Ningning to scoff in fake offence.
“Why don’t we just get a bunch of different pizzas? That way there’s something for everybody.” Ari suggests. “That was the original idea before Y/n started shitting on Hawaiian.” Sunoo says, snatching the phone from Y/n’s hand. “We’ll get two Hawaiians for us people with elite taste… two pepperoni for you basic bitches, a vege one because apparently Sunghoon’s on a health kick… anything else?”
“Can we get one with just cheese? Heeseung loves that when he’s drunk.” Ari asks, causing the others to screw their faces up. “Of course he does, fucking loser.” Yuna scoffs, nudging Sunoo to add it to the list nonetheless.
“Ari and I will go ask if the guys want anything else, I can trust you two to sort out sides, right?” Y/n asks, looking at their three friends skeptically. “We’re not five.” Ningning teases. Y/n rolls their eyes before linking arms with Ari and walking back into the living room.
The two immediately make their way towards Sunghoon, Jake and Heeseung, who have switched from shots to a game of mario kart with Niki. “Babe!” Y/n calls out, immediately gaining the attention of Sunghoon. “Hi, love!” He coos, reaching out to wrap his arms around Y/n’s waist and pull them securely into his lap. He’s still drunk - possibly even more than before (those shots definitely did not help).
Ari watches with fondness as the two engage in a very intense discussion about pizza toppings. Y/n laughs at their boyfriend’s drunken enthusiasm, as he goes on a rant about how much he hates pineapple on pizza. They match his rant with equal enthusiasm, brushing some hair out of his face and pressing a gentle kiss on his forehead.
Ari can’t help but think about how perfect they seem together. Sure, she’s only known the two for about an hour - but judging by the way their energies match, the way they look at each other with the entire universe in their eyes - despite being together for as long as they have - convinces Ari that the two are nothing short of soulmates.
Her staring is cut off by Heeseung’s sudden voice - asking something that she couldn’t make out. She looks down to see him sitting on the couch, a beer bottle resting delicately in his hand. It’s a little hard to hear him over the music and the others talking, so Ari bends down to sit on the armrest - leaning against Heeseung’s body to hear him more clearly.
“I said, are you having fun?” He repeats himself, this time mumbling his words directly into her ear. Ari can tell from the slight slur that Heeseung is tipsy. That, and the subtle scent of beer that lingers in his breath. “I am. Your friends are really nice.” She replies enthusiastically, causing Heeseung to laugh. “I’m glad.” He mumbles, his head dropping to rest on Ari’s shoulder. Her hand instinctively comes up to rest at the back of his head, gently playing with the hairs that sit on his nape.
“I love watching you with my friends.” Heeseung continues, mumbling the words into her neck. “Makes me feel fuzzy ‘n shit.” Ari laughs slightly at his choice of words - drunk Heeseung is nothing short of a poet. “A good fuzzy ‘n shit?” She asks, earning enthusiastic nods from Heeseung. “It’s always good with you.” He whispers, sneaking a quick kiss against the skin of her neck - so fast that she almost didn’t feel it.
Almost.

“Are you sure you don’t need any help getting them home?” Y/n asks, watching with a worried expression as Ari holds a tipsy Heeseung and drunk Niki on either side. “It’s fine, besides, I think you’ve got your own hands tied.” Ari jokes, gesturing towards the wasted Sunghoon that’s currently hanging off Y/n’s arm. “This dumbass has work tomorrow too…” Y/n sighs, flicking Sunghoon’s forehead - earning a pained whine from him. “It was really nice meeting you, Ari! Hopefully you can start coming over more often.” Y/n says, causing Ari to instantly agree.
As the three make their way to Ari’s car, it’s obvious by the way that Niki crawls into the backseat that he has forgotten all about calling shotgun. Shrugging, Y/n helps Heeseung into the passenger seat, checking that both boys are fully buckled in before sitting in the driver's seat and making her way back to the apartment.

As soon as the front door to Heeseung’s apartment is closed, Niki drops to the couch. Ari watches with caution as he snuggles against the pillows, letting out a content sigh as sleep begins to take over his drunken state. Ari doesn’t even know how Niki started drinking - let alone how much he had. Heeseung swears that he didn’t give him any, although his own drunken state certainly made it possible.
Speaking of Heeseung, he immediately sits at Niki’s feet - shaking the boy a few times in an attempt to keep him awake. “Yah! You can’t sleep here, Niki. Ari’s gotta take the couch tonight.” Heeseung mumbles, his body also trying to fight off sleep. “Let him sleep, Hee. I’ll just go home.” Ari says, pulling Heeseung away from the couch. Heeseung whines at this, shaking his head. “I hate you going home this late… it’s too dangerous.” Heeseung argues.
This moment reminds Ari of the first time Heeseung had convinced her to stay over - having a similar argument all those months back. She’s never quite sure what is exactly “dangerous” about driving home but she never pushed for answers, knowing it was likely just an excuse to get her to stay longer.
“Well, I don’t want to wake up Niki. Where else am I gonna sleep… your bed?” Ari jokes. “You said it, not me.” Heeseung shrugs, causing Ari to hit his shoulder - ignoring the slight blush that spreads across her cheeks. “Friends share a bed all the time… why can’t we do it?” He continues, stepping forward to gently wrap his arms around Ari’s waist. “You know exactly why, Lee Heeseung.” Ari spits, looking nervously towards the couch - where Niki is still fast asleep. “Enlighten me?” Heeseung smirks.
God, why did he have to be so much more confident with alcohol in his system? If this were a regular conversation with Heeseung, he’d be an awkward blushing mess. But instead, he stands there with his hands on her waist and a dumb smirk on his lips, as if everything is completely normal.
“We can’t share a bed because it would be weird.” Ari attempts to keep her guard up, trying to look anywhere but into Heeseung’s eyes. “Why? Because I like you?” Heeseung asks, causing Ari to choke on her saliva. She never expected him to bring up his feelings again, let alone in such a brash way. Not trusting her words, she silently nods her head. “But you don’t like me back… so it’s not like anything would happen…” Heeseung says, pulling Ari closer to his body. “Let’s just sleep, hmm?”
Ari is at a crossroads. On one hand, she can go to sleep with Heeseung - experience sharing a bed with him, waking up next to him, and likely fall even more for him than she already has. Or, she could go home and pretend none of this ever happened. The second option seems like the most logical one, but with the way Heeseung’s hands pull her closer and closer to his warmth, logic isn’t really on her mind. “Okay…” She finally mumbles, giggling slightly as Heeseung does a half-drunk happy dance. “But we’re not cuddling!”

Heeseung’s bed is comfy…
That’s the first thought that Ari has as she lays down to sleep that night. If she were by herself in such a comfy bed, she would move around freely - finding the most optimal position to sleep. Unfortunately for her, moving even an inch could result in physical touch with a certain boy… so instead, she picks her spot and sticks to it.
Heeseung’s a surprisingly easy bedmate. With the whole spectacle he put on in the living room, she thought he’d at least be chatty. But as soon as his head hit the pillow, it was as if someone turned off the switch in Heeseung’s brain.
He snores peacefully from his position on the bed - fully sprawled out and only half covered by the bedding. It’s almost laughable, the stark difference between their positions. If Ari were philosophical, she’d think it’s a metaphor for their lives or something. But she’s having enough trouble dissecting her own thoughts and feelings - she definitely doesn’t need to think about Heeseung’s.
A sudden noise from the man next to her causes her entire body to tense up. Heeseung shifts closer to her body, bringing his head to rest on Ari’s pillow. “Are you awake?” He asks, voice low and gravely from sleep.
Ari considers pretending to be asleep, hoping that Heeseung will go back to bed. But then she remembers, this is Heeseung we’re talking about. The same Heeseung she cooks dinner with on Thursdays. The same Heeseung she plays Minecraft with on the weekends. Why is she so scared to face him? He probably just wants to talk about some insane dream he had or complain about his headache from drinking.
Instead of ignoring him and attempting to fall asleep, Ari rolls over to face Heeseung. Big mistake. She quickly finds herself face-to-face with him - his head resting on her pillow leaving very little space between the two. Lucky for Ari, his eyes are closed, meaning he can’t see her bright red cheeks or the way her eyes study every inch of his face.
“I’m awake.” Ari mumbles, attempting to calm the erratic beating of her heart. They’re laying very close in the bed; she wonders if he can feel it. Heeseung lets out a low hum at her words, gently grazing his fingers against hers. “Can I hold your hand?” He asks, finally opening his eyes to stare into hers. “I know you said no cuddling but… I don’t think that counts.”
If rolling over was a big mistake, allowing Heeseung’s hand to gently engulf her own is a ginormous one. His fingers are cold, a harsh contrast to her warmth - and the way his thumb gently runs across the expanse of her knuckles causes her heart to flutter. It’s something that’s been happening a lot around him recently.
“You’re warm.” Heeseung mumbles, attempting to shuffle closer to Ari. He brings their connected hand up to rest on her stomach, causing his arm to drape over half her body. “You know… this is starting to seem a bit like cuddling.” Ari points out, taking note of the way Heeseung’s lips curve up into a tired smile. “Can’t get anything past you.” He chuckles, making no attempt to move his hand.
Ari’s eyes flicker to the clock on the bedside table, reading 4:01. She lets out a sigh, realising that the likelihood of sleep is slipping further and further away. “Are you still drunk?” She asks, causing Heeseung to shake his head. She looks at him unconvinced, causing him to laugh. “Maybe a little tipsy.” “You’re clingy when you’re tipsy.” Ari mumbles, squeezing their intertwined hands as if to prove a point. “Just with you.” Heeseung sighs, the combined drowsiness from sleep and alcohol in his system making him mumble whatever comes to mind.
You know what they always say… drunk words are sober thoughts…
“Do you remember what you said before? When you were convincing me to sleep here?” Ari suddenly asks. Heeseung lets out more low hums as he thinks back to their conversation. “I said it wouldn’t be weird because you don’t like me back… so nothing would happen.” He mumbles, slightly pulling away from her as he speaks. Ari’s heart breaks slightly at this, the subtle sound of defeat in his voice. If only he knew. Ari quickly pulls him back into her space - stopping him from pulling away. It’s now or never.
“Um… what if I wanted something to happen? What if I… did like you back?”
The silence in the room is almost deafening as Ari’s words hang in the air. “Oh” is all Heeseung manages to let out, his grip on her hand tightening ever-so-slightly. “I’m sorry, it’s dumb. Forget I said anything.” Ari starts to turn away from Heeseung. The hand clutching hers quickly moves to her waist, stopping her movements.
“Can we… talk about this tomorrow? When I’m sober?” He asks slowly. Ari lets out a shaky breath, nodding and mumbling a quiet “yeah.” Noticing her nerves, Heeseung moves to press a kiss against her cheek. “Wanna remember it, that’s all.” He whispers, kissing her cheek again. Ari can’t help but smile at his words - feeling her nerves quickly fade away.
Maybe she will get to sleep after all, even just for a few hours. With the words finally off her chest, Ari closes her eyes, both excited and slightly unsure of how their conversation will play out in the morning. Just as she’s about to drift off to sleep, Heeseung’s voice breaks through the silence once more.
“Does this mean we can get rid of the no cuddling rule?”

Heeseung always thought that waking to the smell of Ari cooking in the kitchen was the perfect way to start his day. He was certainly wrong - because rolling over to see Ari curled up under his covers, messy hair spread all over the pillows and the sun cascading a golden glow against the skin of her face beats the smell of her cooking by a long shot.
The two don’t say anything at first - opting to just stare at each other in slight awe. The conversations from the night before (or technically this morning) lay fresh on their minds, causing the two to smile sheepishly at each other.
“Would it be inappropriate of me to kiss you before we talk about our feelings?” Heeseung suddenly asks, causing Ari’s eyes to widen slightly in shock. Is he still drunk? This is certainly not the awkward boy she’s used to. “Um… considering that we both definitely have morning breath, yes.” Ari giggles, watching the way Heeseung’s lips curve into a slight pout.
The cuteness is short-lived, however, as Heeseung slowly moves his arms to wrap around Ari’s waist - pulling her closer to his body. “So… about what you said last night…” He trails off, his words quickly getting interrupted by a loud groan from the living room. “Shit, Niki!” Ari exclaims, practically jumping out of bed to attend to the hungover teen.
Heeseung sighs as she runs out of the bedroom, trying his hardest not to blame Niki for ruining the moment. Rubbing his face in an attempt to shake off his tiredness, he slowly gets out of bed and follows after her.

“I still don’t understand why I have to go to school when I’m literally hungover.” Niki mumbles, spooning another mouthful of Ari’s hangover soup into his mouth. “I drank for the entire weekend and went to uni the next morning once, you’ll be fine.” Heeseung reassures him. If this were any other day, he’d have no problem with Niki staying home. But he really needs to talk to Ari, which means Niki will just have to suck it up and suffer at school.
“I’ll pack you some more soup for lunch. Just take a bunch of painkillers and you should be okay.” Ari says, patting Niki’s head slightly. “And if you’re feeling really bad, just call me and I’ll pick you up.” She adds, causing Heeseung’s head to snap in her direction. “No! Call Jay and spend the day with him. Ari will be… busy.” Heeseung mumbles, trying to hint that he wants her all to himself. “Why… you guys are gonna fuck or something?” Niki asks, causing the two to choke on their saliva. They attempt to refute Niki’s claim - only causing him to smirk at their blushing faces and stuttered responses.
“Okay… don’t worry. I’ll get out of your hair.” Niki teases, getting up from the kitchen table before going to meet Jay and Jungwon outside to go to school. Heeseung waves him off at the door, basically slamming it shut once he knows Niki is safely in the car and no longer his responsibility.
“Thank god he’s gone.” Heeseung sighs, immediately walking back into the kitchen, where Ari has started on the dishes. “No, we can do those later.” He whines, wrapping himself around her in a back hug. “There’s like 5 things, Heeseung! I’ll be quick.” Ari laughs, partially from Heeseung’s reaction and partially from the tickling feeling as he nuzzles his head into her neck. “I waited so long for this day and you’re doing dishes?” He asks, attempting to pull her away from the sink. “I can multitask, Hee.” Ari playfully rolls her eyes.
Groaning, knowing that he won’t get his way, Heeseung reluctantly pulls away from Ari’s body and moves to sit on the counter - right next to the sink. “Okay… when did you fall in love with me?” “Heeseung!” Ari exclaims, flicking some of the soapy water onto his thigh. “Sorry, sorry, I’m kidding!” He raises his hands in defeat, laughing at the way Ari’s cheeks reddened at the question. “Seriously though… when did things change?” He asks, his playful tone dropping to a more sincere one.
Ari pauses the dishes to think for a second, only returning to scrubbing the coffee mug once she’s come up with her answer. “It was like a month ago? Maybe two… I don’t think anything super important happened. We were just having breakfast together… I think Niki was on a school trip so it was just the two of us and… I don’t know, you were really sweet. And attentive. And touchy. You said something about how you wish every day could be like that… kinda hard to think of you as just a friend after that.”
Heeseung’s lips curl up into a smile at her words. “I’m such a romantic, aren’t I?” He jokes, letting out a loud shriek as Ari splashes him again. “More like a loser… in an endearing way, I promise.” She jokes.
“And when I confessed to you… you’d just gotten out of a relationship so… you didn’t like me then?” Heeseung asks curiously. Ari eyes him skeptically, causing him to raise his hands in surrender. “Not to make it weird or anything. I just wanna know how good my skills are at getting out of the friend zone.” He jokes, trying to play it off.
Ari knows it’s not a joke. If there’s anything Heeseung needs, it’s reassurance. She knows he wants to hear that she’d loved him all along - that she was just waiting for the perfect moment. Sighing, Ari replies:
“Honestly - I didn’t. I thought you were cute… and I knew that I had the potential of liking you as more than a friend but… at the time, I was just far too focused on him to even consider the option.” She mumbles, her voice almost venomous at the subtle mention of her ex.
Ari hates him so by default, Heeseung hates him too. He doesn’t know too much about the breakup since Ari refuses to talk about it. All he knows is that she was sad for quite a while. It was tough seeing her go through something like that, Heeseung’s sudden confession not making things much easier. But he was there to comfort her; to help pick up the pieces and make her whole again - in whatever ways she’d let him. He believes it’s one of the reasons they got so close, so he guesses he should thank her ex for that.
“But… you’re ready now?” Heeseung asks, Ari’s eyebrows furrowing slightly at the question. “For a relationship, I mean… with me, preferably.” Heeseung clarifies. Ari giggles slightly at this, drying her hands on a kitchen towel before moving to stand between Heeseung’s legs. “I’m more than ready.” She smiles, resting her hands gently on the top of his thighs.
The expression that spreads across Heeseung’s face is one Ari hopes to remember forever. Relief... Excitement… adoration… love. Heeseung’s never been in love before - his past relationships never made it that far. He’s never invested so much of his time and heart into someone the way he has with Ari, always scared that it would never be enough. But as he sits on the kitchen counter, the warmth of Ari’s palms seemingly seeping through the fabric of his jeans, causing the skin on his thighs to tingle ever-so-slightly - he realises that it is enough. He is enough.
It’s overwhelming, the way that Ari looks at him. He never thought that a single glance could push away all his insecurities. “Can I kiss you now?” He mumbles out, almost desperate to finally feel her lips on his. Once Ari gives the slightest sign of consent, his hands gently cup her face - pulling her up towards him and connecting their lips.
Heeseung can’t even begin to count the number of times he’s thought about kissing Ari. Despite that, he wasn’t prepared for the way her lips feel against his. The subtle taste of her cherry chapstick as he cheekily licks her bottom lip causes his taste buds to jump. She moves her hands from his thighs to wrap around his neck, pulling him down further to give herself better access to his mouth. He’s in pure bliss - his thumb gently stroking her cheekbone as she leans as close to his body as possible.
Heeseung pulls himself away momentarily to push himself off the counter. Now standing face-to-face, Heeseung wraps his arms around Ari’s waist and pulls her into his chest, leaning down to connect their lips once more.
“Be my girlfriend,” Heeseung mumbles between kisses, the words coming out slightly muffled due to the contact. “Please.” He adds, gently biting Ari’s bottom lip as if to emphasise the words. “Of course you idiot.” Ari replies, moving in to kiss Heeseung once again. His eyes flutter shut - awaiting the contact which never comes. Opening his eyes in confusion, he sees Ari standing there, giggling to herself as she gently strokes one of his cheeks. “What are you laughing at?” He asks, pouting. “Nothing,” Ari replies, quickly pecking the pout but pulling away before Heeseung can deepen the kiss. “You’re just really fucking cute.”

As Niki walks towards the front door, he does a quick prayer before slowly opening the door. His eyes are squeezed close, scared of what he might see if he just walks in like normal.
“Uh… hi?” Heeseung asks, confused, causing Niki’s eyes to snap open. They immediately fall on Heeseung, relaxed on the couch with his arm nestled casually around Ari’s shoulder - her legs laying in his lap. Ari happily waves when she notices Niki, him giving a small one back.
“Why aren’t you guys naked?” He asks without thinking, causing the two to look at him puzzled. “Sorry, I mean… you were acting really weird at breakfast this morning and… the way you were practically rushing me out the door I just thought you guys were gonna y’know… do stuff.” Niki hints, his choice of words causing Heeseung and Ari to laugh.
“You don’t have to say it so ominously… besides, we literally just got together. No need to rush anything.” Heeseung says. Niki’s eyes light up at his words, the younger boy jumping to sit next to them on the couch. “So you guys are dating?” He asks, causing the couple to nod. “I knew it! I literally called this months ago! Oh my god, I’m psychic.”
Heeseung laughs at his friend before moving his attention to Ari, squeezing her shoulder gently with reassurance. She didn’t outright tell him that she was nervous about telling Niki, but as her boyfriend, it’s not hard for him to tell.
“Wait, does this mean you’ll be over all the time, Noona?” Niki asks excitedly, causing Ari to smile sheepishly. “I mean… I’ll be here sometimes. I don’t know about all the time…” Her voice trails off, turning to look at Heeseung, who’s busy laughing at Niki’s excitement. “Oh, the other guys are gonna absolutely love this. Have you told them yet? Can I tell them? I can call Jake-hyung right now, he’s gonna go insane!”
“Calm down Niki.” Heeseung cuts off the rant. “We’ll tell them all another day… let’s just keep it between us for now, okay?” Heeseung asks, earning a nod from Niki, slightly out of breath from his excited rambling. “Only if I can tease the others for being the first to know.” He smirks, causing Heeseung to roll his eyes before agreeing.
“Okay, I’m gonna go play on your computer for a bit. Don’t have too much fun out here lovebirds~” Niki teases before making his way down the hall to Heeseung’s room. “I think he’s more excited than you were…” Ari jokes, letting out a yelp when Heeseung teasingly squeezes her waist. “Impossible.” He mumbles, gently pushing Ari until she’s laying on her back. Crawling over her, Ari rolls her eyes and presses her hands against his chest. “You heard the kid, not too much fun.” “I think this is the perfect amount of fun, don’t you?” Heeseung smirks, tightening his grip on Ari’s waist before connecting their lips in a passionate kiss.
Resisting the urge to slap the stupid smirk off his face, Ari melts into the kiss. She only pulls away when Heeseung playfully bites her lip, attempting to slip his tongue into her mouth. “Niki is literally one wall away and you’re doing this?” She asks, raising a brow at him. “Not sure what you’re talking about babe… we’re just kissing.” Heeseung winks, moving to press gentle kisses across her jaw and down her neck. “You’re insane.” Ari whispers, despite making no effort to stop Heeseung’s advances. Her comment earns a particularly hard bite on the neck - causing her to yelp slightly. “I’m in love.” He corrects, gently kissing over where he just bit.
Ari goes to argue that both statements can be true but chooses to bite her tongue. Instead, she relishes in the way Heeseung presses open-mouthed kisses along her neck and shoulder, her hands mindlessly playing with the strings of his hoodie.
Being with him like this makes her question why it took her so long to confess. The number of days that could’ve ended with her curled up in his embrace if she had just shared her true feelings. But what’s done is done, and there’s no use beating herself up over “what ifs” from the past when the man himself is right in front of her.
“When do you think we’ll tell your friends?” Ari asks, smiling slightly as Heeseung presses his entire body weight against her. “Don’t care,” He mumbles, nuzzling his nose into the crook of her neck. “Wanna keep you to myself for a while… they can wait.” He continues, making Ari’s heart flutter at his words.
Heeseung doesn’t care about the teasing he’ll get once the guys find out about him and Ari. He would take getting teased every day for the rest of his life if it meant being with her - as cringy as it sounds. Heeseung’s not one for believing in fate. He got his fortune read once and thought it was a load of bullshit. But if some higher power is what brought Ari to him, then he supposes he has lots of thanking to do. And as he lays there, breathing in her scent and listening to the peaceful thump of her heartbeat - he can’t help but think how grateful he is.

SERENITY: Schedule One
word count: 1354 SERENITY | next
synopsis: Who knew ‘We Got Married’ would bring back the heat for this upcoming season with an “ACE” couple, let alone a couple who ended terms with each other before their debut. Would their old flame spark once more or would they pass each other instead? With the exciting news starring Lee Heeseung from ENHYPEN and Choi Areum from SERENITY, would the old lovebirds be able to show us their profound partnership through challenging missions under one roof?

[Ari POV]
"Congratulations ladies! You did amazing out there," Yui exclaims as we enter our dressing room, the stylists surprising us with confetti thrown into the air. We grin triumphantly, it was our fifth win for our comeback promotion 'Eyes On Me' from our tenth album ‘Yours Truly’. All those sleepless nights of producing the songs while on tour were definitely worthwhile seeing our fans enjoy our music. It’s always fun having to interact with them during pre-recording as they show us their undying love and support.
Jaemi, our leader, raises the trophy excitedly waving it in the air, "Our hard work is paying off! You know what calls for tonight~"
"Sleeping in?" I joke half-heartedly, earning a 'are you for real' look from Lihua. "What? I just miss my bed." I continue to pout.
“Anyways,” Hyejin continued, dismissing my joke as she shook her head, “Why don’t we celebrate by eating good tonight with delivery?”
“That sounds like a good idea. I’ve been craving fried chicken these past few days,” Lihua gestures to her stomach, rubbing it in circles. "We should also add tteokbokki and ramen to the order."
“Should we also go on Weverse for a bit?” I suggest, earning a nod of approval from our leader.
“We should, especially since we won an award today,” she said, “I’m sure they’d enjoy that. We can go on while we wait for delivery.”
"Since your promotions will be ending next week, I'll have the company request a short break for you girls soon after the scheduled activities. You've worked hard for the past year during the world tour. It's about time you deserve a break," Yui announces, quickly taking note of it on her phone. However, I doubt the company will even acknowledge how overworked we have been since the tour. Our fans, Aurora, have been active on social media platforms regarding the demand for a vacation to our company. I've noticed how tired my members are despite the facade we display for our audience. I'm worried that it will become too late and the public will be outraged by the company's neglect. I sigh, eventually, our voices will be heard before anything serious happens.
"Hopefully we'll be able to go somewhere with no cameras," Lihua said while removing her in-ear pieces, setting her mic down in its case. "I still need to go to Monaco from my bucket list. I need to see Lando at least once in my lifetime."
"Honestly, I doubt that. We've been the hot topics for news articles since last year," Hyejin states, quickly dismissing our hopes of privacy. "Especially since all eyes are on us during promotions."
"If only these paparazzi could leave us alone, we'd get a sense of peace of mind," I interject, my hair stylist quickly adjusts my hair for our photo to be taken soon for our twitter page.
"Maybe one day there will be world peace," Jaemi counters with a shrug. "Should we head out soon to take our photos?"
"Whoever is done touching up can take their solo selfies first," Yui announces, "We do have a dance challenge with a few groups today."
"Alright, I'm taking off first then," Lihua raises from her seat, quickly taking her phone and trophy in hand, with quick snaps on the camera roll with a variety of different angles and poses.
"I'll favorite the ones I like," Jaemi announced as it was her turn to take photos with the trophy.
"Which groups are we doing the dance challenge with again?" I ask, tilting my phone upwards with the trophy by my face. I smiled, quickly giving different types of facial expressions on camera.
"We'll be with Stray Kids and SEVENTEEN today," Hyejin answers before taking photos of herself.
"Ohh, that means Lihua gets to be with her boyfriend~" Jaemi teases as she nudges by her side.
Lihua shakes her head with a smile, "Don't get me started with you now."
Jaemi laughs, her brows raised in response, "I'm just saying, I'm glad that our fandoms were happy for you and Mingyu. Shoot, I was scared when the company officially announced your relationship with Mingyu."
"Oh shush, don't remind me. We were both in a pickle at the time," with a groan, Lihua pinches Jaemi on her side. "Knowing our fandoms, they're very respectful and considerate to us."
About six months ago before our world tour began, Mingyu and Lihua were caught by paparazzi during one of their late-night dates which caused a stir in the industry. Not long after the release of their article scandal, causing distress to some netizens regarding their relationship status, our company made an official announcement confirming their relationship to the world and that they’ve been an item for over a year. Of course, not everyone was pleased to hear the exciting news from the agency, but that didn’t stop the couple from showing their affection for one another, which quickly gained massive support from both fandoms and non-fans. Now, they’re known as the “VISUAL CHEFZ” couple, earning the nickname from their fandoms.
"Alright ladies, let's take the group photo now," Yui interjects their banter, catching our divided attention to our manager. "Go out the halls and take the photos by the stairs. Let's go."
"Yes ma'am," we all say in unison, walking out of our room together.
***
"Thanks for your hard work," the girls, Lihua and Hyejin, bow towards Mingyu and Soonyoung after quickly finishing the dance challenge for each other's promotions with the approval nod of our manager.
“Congratulations again on winning!” Mingyu grinned sheepishly, opening his arms for Lihua, which she returned with a hug. If this man isn’t the most obvious person on earth, he is so love-struck for Lihua. I chuckle at his demeanor towards her. It’s so cute looking at their interactions.
Do you want to know the story of how it all started for the couple? I'd say it was all due to us playing Cupid, by 'us' I mean Soonyoung and I. We became close after doing a couple of dance challenges together, with him quickly adding me to one of his group chats with other dancers.
I was shocked to see a text message from him one day, asking me about Lihua, which I assumed Soonyoung wanted to be more than just friends. Turns out it was actually Mingyu who wanted to get close to her.
From passing each other through the company hallways to doing dance challenges together, Mingyu finally received the courage to ask Lihua for her phone number.
I look towards Soonyoung who also glanced towards me with his eyebrows raised, a playful glint in his eyes. "Oh boy," I muttered under my breath, "Here comes trouble." Soonyoung tilted his head toward the couple who was too busy in their own world to acknowledge his presence as he slowly crept up to them, or rather Mingyu specifically. Soonyoung bumps into Mingyu from behind, sending him to corner Lihua on the wall with his arms trapping her in between. She looks up with a surprised look as Mingyu briefly apologizes to her with a quick kiss on the cheek, quickly chasing down a mischievous hamster down the halls. Ah, I can’t wait to relax and finally be in bed.
***
[SERENITY Dorm]
"Wait a minute," I say, trying to digest the announcement coming from my manager Yui, "So, what you're trying to say is that the reality show I'm selected for is We Got Married."
I stood up from my couch in disbelief, "You're kidding with me right?" I say, my eyes pleading for Yui to say it was a prank. My streak of not getting into a dating scandal quickly crumbles down the drain. Knowing how dispatch and the netizens react, they'll automatically assume one of us is in a relationship or spread rumors like usual. "I can't get out of this can I?"
"Oh honey, I wish it was. The director personally chose you as the next star to go on." Yui states, giving me an apologetic look. "You'll have to sign the contract tomorrow first thing at the company. The director will have a brief meeting with you in the morning." Ah, I wish I was in Monaco instead of being here.

First time writing anything, so pls be nice 🙏 Constructive criticism is more than welcome as long as it actually helps
enhypen!ot7 x fem!oc (not a xreader! So I will describe her appearance, but feel free to replace it with your own!), kinda Niki focused and I'm going to write from a 3rd person pov. Bold is korean, normal is English. 'This' means thoughts
"I THINK there's a man following me" Esmeralda told her mother on the other side of the line, navigating through the busy streets of Paris. She looked behind her again, just to be met with the same imposing figure that's been following her for the past 17 minutes and 35 seconds, clad in black and a mask. "Are you sure? Have you just noticed? Or has it been a long time? Maybe he's just going in the same direction." Her mother answered her. The woman sighed "At first I thought so as well, but it's been..." she looked at her watch "19 minutes and 2 seconds and he's still behind me even after all of those random turns I took to lose him". She heard her mother let out a "hmmmm" and the image of her frowning made her smile. "Go in one of the shops and stay there for awhile. If he's still there when you go out again, go back in and call the police, ok?" "OK, I'll hang up then". "I love you, call me back later". "I love you too, I will. Bye". She looked up from her phone to fine a decent shop, and gulped when all she saw were expensive looking restaurants. She forgot she was in the 8th arrondissement, the rich district. It's okay, just don't talk to anyone and it will be okay, its okay. She settled on a restaurant that looked less busy than the others and hid herself in a bathroom stall. Then she waited, thanking God for the clean seat. About ten minutes later, she went to take a peek outside, surprised to still see him there. She ran back to the stalls to lock herself in again and after a few minutes, called the police "Bonjour vous avez appelé le 17, quelle est votre urgence?"
"Good morning, 17 what's your emergency?"
Surprised by how fast the operator picked up, Esmeralda raised a brow. 'Guess they didn't have a lot of business today'.. "Oui bonjour, j'ai été suivie par un homme pendant 20 minutes au moins."
"I'm being followed by someone, I have been for at least 20 minutes"
"Est-ce que vous en êtes sûre? Où êtes vous à l'instant? Et comment vous appelez vous?"
"Are you sure? Where are you right now? And what's your name?"
"J'en suis certaine. J'ai pris au moins 5 intersections au hasard pour m'en assurer. Je suis dans un restaurant qui s'appelle L' Arôme, dans le 8ème, à l'étage, au-aux toilettes. Je suis entrée il y a un quart d'heure? et j'ai vérifié il y a 10 minutes qu'il était toujours là. Je m'appelle Esmeralda Adel"
"I'm positive. I took at least 5 random turns to make sure. I'm in a restaurant called L' Arôme, in the 8th district, in the bathroom stalls on the second level. I've been here for fifteen minutes and checked if he was still outside about 10 minutes ago. My name is Esmeralda Adel"
"Bien. Nous envoyons des agents pour l'appréhender. Pouvez vous le décrire?"
"OK. We're sending agents to take care of this. Can you describe him?"
"Il est plutôt grand et a une carrure assez imposante. Il est habillé tout en noir, avec un masque chirurgicale et une casquette. Je crois qu'il a une veste en cuire? Je n'ai pas vu son visage, mais je peux le voir des fenêtres de l'étage, alors j'ai pris une photo."
"He's on the tall side, and has an imposing figure. He's dressed in all black and has a surgical mask. I think he's wearing a leather vest? It's black as well. I didn't see his face, but I can spot him from the windows of the restaurant so I took a picture."
"Ce sera assez merci. Nous vous appellerons une fois sur les lieux."
"That'll be enough, thank you. We will call you once at your location."
With that, the police officer hung up. Relieved, Esmeralda stood up and washed her hands, because even if she didn't do her business, she was still in a public bathroom like come on, ew, gross. She went outside and took her phone to inform her mom of how things went, but was abruptly stopped by a tall body bumping into her.

In an airplane, a few hours ago

They debated and against responsible people's wishes, it was decided that they'd eat out. Their manager protested at first, but then gave in when he saw it was futile to argue and made a reservation for a restaurant. He sent them of with a van and a staff member to drive them. Surprisingly enough, the trip went well enough and soon the group were oooing and wowwing at the fancy looking dishes, rid of their hats and masks and laughing at other's jokes. Maybe they were laughing a little too hard, because Jungwon spilled some water on his seat mate. Riki, the target of his clumsiness stood up after some good natured teasing to dry the mess in the bathroom. He turned around at Jake's call "Hurry up or we'll finish your plate for you!" He replied with a smile "Don't you dare hyung!" and still chuckling, he turned and collided with a smaller object.
Riki yawned. Loudly. Next to him, Jay tapped his thigh. "Hang on, we'll be there in 20 minutes". The youngest nodded tiredly. He'd been sitting in this godforsaken plane for eleven hours, his limbs hurt, damn it. He couldn't wait to get out, stretch and eat. He'd been to France already, and everytime he couldn't help his awe at the gastronomy. He was excited for the concert too. When they went on a world tour, Enhypen mostly went to The United States, so he knew french engene would be happy with their presence. Hybe had conveniently decided to make their concert public last minute, so Enhypen could enjoy two weeks off for tourism and "vacations" without being bothered too much (well, as secretly as an internationally famous band could). Every one still thought they were in Korea, if all was well. On the other side of the private jet, Jungwon and Heeseung watched movies. Jake and Sunghoon were playing rock paper scissors and Sunoo was taking a nap. Riki thought he looked ridiculous with the face mask and pink unicorn headband, and discreetly took a picture for blackmail purposes. Like that, 20 minutes passed and soon all of the members were in Charles de Gaulle (the airport), leaving the plane. They thought the masks, caps and black coats weren't very subtle but it was better than their faces being in plain sight and fans finding out about their surprise too early. They arrived at their fancy hotel without much trouble, save for having to hide one way or another so that they wouldn't be seen. The agency had rented the whole level for them and the staff so they would be unbothered. Sunghoon and Jake shared a room, while the maknaes stayed together and Jay and Heeseung had a room to themselves. When they all settled down, they all reunited in Jay's room on the couch to decide what to do next. "I'm so hungry" Riki whined. "Hmmm" of agreements chimed in the room and Jake suggested they go eat in a restaurant instead of ordering takeout. "It's been a while since we've been here, I want to explore a bit". But Jungwon, always the responsible leader argued "How will we stay out of sight? Everyone will recognise us, and we can't even take our bodyguards"

Back to us :)

Esmeralda blinked. Once. Twice. The two stayed like that for a few seconds, just staring at the other. Her eyes examined the features of the man in front of her. They ran over his thick lashes and eyebrows, his dark brown eyes, the elegant slope of his nose amd his plump lips. She drank in his oh so gorgeous face, and the way his black hair fell in lazy waves and blonde highlights on his forehead, how the smooth strands framed his face. When her brain registered who she was looking at, her eyes widened and she started "You're-!" But her sentence was cut off by a big hand that pressed on her mouth to shush her. "Shhh" Riki whispered. "Who are you? What are you doing here? I thought manager-nim rented the whole restaurant for us!" The curly haired woman tried to pry the hand off and when the fucking international superstar complied, she answered in the same tone and to the Nishimura's surprise, in perfect korean "I was in the bathroom, you must've came in while I was still inside. What are you doing here? I thought Enhypen was in Korea!" Riki sighs, "We're having a concert in two weeks and came early without telling engene to have some time off. Since you recognised me, I suppose you're a fan?" Still stunned at the turn of events, Esmeralda nodded. "Yes... I guess I should leave you alone then. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. I understand you need to relax." When he thanked her and just as she was going to leave, Riki stopped her "Wait!". She turned curiously. He nervously gulped. "What's your name..?" "Esmeralda" she replied with a pleasant smile. "Well, Esmerlada, umm, now that you know, will you come at the concert?" She chuckled. "Maybe, that depends on the price of the tickets" He sighed "Of course, yes... Um... Well... I hope to see you there!" And he turned and ran off to the bathroom. Still surprised, Esmeralda left the restaurant hastily to call her mother.

Riki's pov ;)

"Oof". He caught the poor thing before they could fall and stared down at what was in his arms. The woman had caramel skin and long curly hair. Long lashes framed pretty green eyes, and made way to a cute nose. Niki found himself counting her freckles, and staring at her plump lips, the way her cupids bow shaped them, and how her bottom lip slightly pouted out. He found himself looking at every little dent, every little detail of her face. He was mesmerised, like under a spell. She was... pretty. Really pretty. Beautiful really, but not necessarily conventionally pretty, at least not according to korean beauty standars. But her wide, slightly flat nose complemented her face so well, and her chubby cheeks were so adorable, he melted. Her beauty was refreshing. He couldn't help but want to hear her voice, he wondered if it was as stunning as her. Then suddenly he remembered where he was, and that Sejun-nim had rented the whole restaurant for them. It seemed that the beautiful girl recognised him at the same time, because she tried to talk "You're!" But he cut her off with his hand. He didn't want the hyungs to hear her, what if they thought she was a sasaeng? He'd interrogate her himself (he didn't want to admit he didn't want his hyungs to see her because he knew they'd fall under her charm like him) "Who are you? What are you doing here? I thought manager-nim rented the whole restaurant for us!" He let her answer, pleasantly surprised when she replied in korean "I was in the bathroom, you must've come in while I was still inside. What are you doing here? I thought enhypen was in Korea!" Riki sighed, "We're having a concert in two weeks and came early without telling engene to gave some time off. Since you recognised me, I suppose you're a fan?" When she nodded, he mentally cheered 'We have such a pretty fan'. "Yes... I guess I should leave you alone then. Don't worry, I won't tell anyone. I understand you need to relax." "Thank you". But then she turned to leave and Riki just wanted her to stay a bit more, to know her more, so he blurted out "Wait!" 'Shit, what do I say?..... Ask for her name you idiot!' "What's your name?" "Esmeralda" 'Wow... Even her name is gorgeous. She has a beautiful smile' "Well, Esmeralda, umm, now that you know, will you come at the concert?" She chuckled. "Maybe, that depends on the price of the tickets" He sighed "Of course, yes... Um... Well... I hope to see you there!" And he turned and ran off to the bathroom. 'Stupid, of course she can't come without a ticket!'. He looked at himself in the mirror and leaned on the sink. 'She was so pretty...' he blinked and held back a squeal 'A pretty girl talked to me! She's even an engene!!!' He smiled at himself, still dazed and lovestruck. He wanted to see her again. But he knew that if he did, it would be at the concert. And that meant that the other members would see him act like a teenager in love (which he was, but he had his own pride). He was reluctant for that to happen. And there was no way they would be immune to her charm, she was just too... everything. When Heeseung called him, asking if he was okay, he was reminded of why he went to the facilities in the first place and hastily wiped his shirt, yelling back an "I'm fine! I'll be there in a second!" When he returned, Sunoo hyung mentioned absently "I thought I saw a girl go downstairs a few minutes ago, do you know who that was?" Niki blushed and looked down, shaking his head. Sunghoon noticed and loudly teased him "Niki-aaah, do you have a cruuuush!?" Jake took it upon himself to help his friend embarrass their maknae "Wow, Niki, did you get her number". They all took turns teasing him, but he just rolled his eyes 'If only you had seen her, you wouldn't be laughing'.. The day ended and as he fell asleep back at the hotel, he could only dream about the beautiful girl with emerald eyes and a name to match.

Hybe game (admirers) caterers.
🗯️ Pairing : ot7! x reader Genre : Idol x Idol , fluff warning: nothing word count : 438 (not prove-read)
; AUTHORS NOTE : happy December 1st!! Please look forward to my new written series “In Every Multiverse” later today!!
masterlist to my other works
정원 jungwon + 성훈 Sunghoon
Will 100% smile at your group entrance.
and I mean the small smiles but adorable ones. He really wants to get your attention (even though he has it all already), would race towards the same ice bucket you’re going to during the “Red HYBE Green HYBE” and laugh when you both reached for the same beverage, if there’s only one left he would let you take it.
Because your group only got 1 watermelon and it wasn’t enough, they will personally deliver some to your group (but mostly for you). And watch you eat the sweet watermelon he cut for you, tries to get to know you when you guys are lining up during “NaNa Cafeteria Game”. Cheer you on during “Random Play Dance.” and would be really surprised when you knew their dances. Blushed because their crush just did their dance = saw their mv = saw them in the MV = listened to their music = listened to their voice. Will never ever stop talking about how cute you looked that day.
Bless his small heart😔
희 승 heeseung + 박종성 Park Jeongseong + 심재윤 Sim Jaeyun
Biggest flirts. Please they don’t even try to hide it, especially during “Random Play Dance.”. Knew all the dances but added the most energy during your groups dance (especially your part). His way to show off his amazing dance skills as well as the fact he payed attention to you. Would tease you when you got their dance right. “Ahh~ y/n must watched our dance practice to perfect all those dance moves~”. They are smart as hell so they would 101% always whisper the answer to “Nana Cafeteria” when they hear your question, so you can get the good foods faster and not starve :(
Oh and they helped you out during “A Pair Race” because you both couldn’t find your manager😭. Than you realized both of them were chatting which made you laugh. He was just so gentle with you😵💫
선우 Sunoo + にしむら りき Nishimura Riki
REALLY SHY AT FIRST. They just didn’t believe you would join the show AS THE MC!! Because of your packed schedule, but here you are GLOWING. Really impressed you (like the others) during “Random Play Dance”, Your comments made them blush so hard. And the way your soft voice read out their name for their missions or even just their group name made them MELT🫠
During “Nana Cafeteria”, they would purposely try to pick the food lunchboxes so they can save it for you because they know you wouldn’t get the good ones after everyone got theirs. His actions really made your heart swell. It was so kind of him.
Did I also mention he tried to rush towards the finish line during “Red HYBE Green HYBE”. He almost fell over so you caught him quickly by his arms, shocked both of you. But you both laughed off which made him blush like a red tomato because your laugh was so adorable.
BLESS HIS HEART 2.0🫣
