that does make me think tho like. frisk seems to me like he would either call both parents just by their name or call both mom and dad. not pick one and leave the other. hes shown to be more considerate of the residents of xtale in later timelines than chara, whos grown much more disillusioned, hateful, and violent. chara has way fewer problems treating people more poorly because in his mind the end justifies the means and as long as the goal hes working toward is noble (which. it at first is but later twists into something completely different. but i think he still considers it noble and the "best outcome for everyone" and thats ahat matters most to him) any horrible thing he does is completely fine. hes playing on the same battlefield as xgaster, after all, so he has to adopt his same tactics. frisk, though also shown to have grown more hateful and violent and disillusioned, shows a lot more hesitation in using and/or hurting the residents of xtale.

anyway, all that to say that he just doesnt rlly strike me as the type of guy to just exclude one parent, especially if it hurts/saddens them. like i could be completely wrong and hes just got a preference contrasting charas bc siblings, but. idk.

bc chara not calling toriel mom immediately makes me think of timeline III. the timeline right after the one where chara got the father figure he yearned for. it was the first timeline to use underswap as a base instead of the original timeline. in the episode, we see both frisk and chara sitting in toriels lap. frisk is chatting happily with her, but chara looks livid

i wonder if chara refuses to call toriel mom because she hasnt been the mother he knew for so, so long. she doesn't even know it. and swap toriel taking asgores role and some if not all of his personality (depending on the interpretation), it probably felt to chara like she was trying to replace asgore. a shoddy stand in, smiling at him almost in mockery as he has to mourn the death of his father alone because noone except for him, frisk, xgaster, and alphys even know he died. for all the other residents of xtale, that series of events never happened.

toriel asks him whats wrong and he has to fight the urge to snap at her, to yell at her that she knows. she knows and shes mocking him. that shell never be him. that she shouldnt have ever dared to do something like this so close to his death. and he only barely holds that all in because he knows shes not doing this on purpose. she doesnt know what happened. she didnt ask to be remade in someone else's image. she doesn't even know she has been

the whole situation fuels his hatred of xgaster more, because now more than ever he feels like hes being toyed with. first it was just the world. just seeing what changed. and then one of the most precious things to him was taken from him by the very man who promised him the world, a marionette facsimile dangling by strings from the claws chara couldve sworn he didnt always have.

and again, its not toriels fault. but it leaves such a strong impression on him that she forever changes in his eyes. shes no longer the loving mother. shes someone who doesnt belong, someone he doesnt recognize as his own. she changed from who she was when she WAS his mom, all the way back in timelines I and II, and the mother he loved is dead. gone. erased. irreplaceable. and no matter what xtoriel does, chara can never bring himself to call her mom again

and, on the contrary, he latches to asgore hard. because hes also changed, hes not exactly as he remembers him, but hes back. hes alive. hes still asgore and hes still his father and he missed him so much. he doesnt care about the smaller details, nothing matters except the fact that his father is back. that the man who gave him hope and support and company when he felt so crushingly lonely under the weight of losing his world is back, and that means chara isnt alone anymore. hes not hopeless. and he holds to that tiny hope as tight as he can

You know how ice has like, one of the the highest ranks you can get in the navy without being SECNAV by the events of TGM while maverick stayed a captain because he didn’t want to give up flying?

I bet ice felt the same in a way, but he was more attached to the plane he was flying rather than the concept of flying in general

I was doing some research and the last F-14 Tomcat was retired from service in 2006 from VF-213. Now this next bit doesn’t entirely comply with fact, but in the topgun universe VF-213 is Fist of the fleet, ice and sliders canon squadron. (In actual fact fist of the fleet is actually VF-25 but let’s ignore that)

So I hc that ice stayed at Commander (since captains oversee the general command of a ship instead of flying the missions) until the tomcat was retired, had one go on the new f/a-18 superhornet on a flight sim and upon deciding it wasn’t the same as the tomcat, he accepted a promotion to captain the same day. Also if we take into account that it usually takes 20-25 years for an officer to get promoted to captain and safely assume ice joined the navy somewhere around the late 70s early 80s, (flight school = 4years so pilots are immediately an Lt when they join the fleet and say it took ice somewhere between 3-4 years so get selected for topgun after that) it also fits the service timeline for getting promoted to captain.

And then after being promoted to captain, ice just gained promotion after promotion and ended up being promoted to COMPACFLT about 1-2 years before the events of TGM. (I hc ice was only on his first term during tgm and that since HE DOESNT DIE YALL, he would take office a second time to keep all maverick baby daggers out of trouble before becoming SECNAV after that.)

Hey. Here's some things the Temporal Chalice says:

Things we can take away from this include:

the Chalice, and presumably all Relics by extension, remember being the Light of Creation.

the Relics are aware that they were more powerful as the Light of Creation, and are less powerful now.

at minimum, the Chalice, and possibly other Relics too, look back on being the Light of Creation with a sense of longing — for that time, for that power, and for that freedom.

The Chalice wants to be used — but mourns that it can't create a full new timeline. The Chalice wants to be used... but hey, wait. Doesn't it sound like the Chalice would much rather be used as part of the Light of Creation?

So, on that note... here's a question. What if Lucretia (or a non-Voidfished Tres Horny Boys, in some kind of early-reconciliation or no-Voidfishing AU) had just... talked to the Relics? And... told them the plan? Told the Relics what they were going to do with them? Promised to finally reunite them as the Light of Creation, and to use the Light at full power to stop the Hunger?

Do you think any of the Relics might've just... agreed to that?

According to the Chalice, the Relics can even turn off their thrall if it serves them, or they want to have a conversation on equal terms. (And judging by THB not having to roll for the Chalice, I think the Chalice was telling the truth about that.) In theory, any Relic literally could've just said "wow, I thought you'd never ask!" and clicked off the thrall, happily agreeing to let themselves be restored to their former glory.

Now, that's all in theory, because maybe some of the Relics wouldn't trust that offer. Especially if they realize it's their creator, who split them apart in the first place, that they're dealing with — there might be bad blood there. Or maybe some of the Relics would just be too impatient, too eager to be used — unable to get behind delayed gratification.

But... would some of them agree? I think the Chalice absolutely would. And we know so little about the Bulwark Staff's reclamation that I wonder... if this was an approach Lucretia took. And if unbeknownst to us, the Bulwark Staff actually did cooperate.

That's even a potential answer to why the Staff's thrall doesn't affect anyone on the moonbase. The common and reasonable answer I've seen from fans is that it's concentrating its thrall on Lucretia already, since she's the one wielding it — but another answer could be that it's consciously "playing nice," because it wants to be reunited as the Light of Creation more than anything. Maybe the real answer is somewhere in-between. Trying its best to thrall Lucretia, just to ensure she'll stay on her current course, because the Light has been betrayed by its wielder before — but simultaneously, recognizing that no one else it could thrall has nearly as much to give.

You know. Food for thought. We don't get much characterization for Relics outside of the Chalice, but what we do get from the Chalice says so much, and opens so many possibilities.

I wasn't even expecting to like studying Shakespeare at all but then I started looking at Romeo and Juliet fanart and became inexplicably drawn to Mercutio in the Romeo et Juliette french musical, and then in class we had to perform three scenes of our choice from the play in groups, and one of my friends was cast as our Mercutio and I started to get like this insanely strong feeling that everything was wrong and everything felt off and I should be Mercutio, not her (no shade to my friend though). So then eventually I asked her if she was willing to swap roles and she agreed (she was not interested in performing in general and was happy with a minor role) and the moment she said yes it was like the stars aligned or something. Then I got increasingly obsessed with the musical and started kinsidering if I'm Mercutio and I kinfirmed it pretty fast due to the whole 'everything feels wrong if I'm not Mercutio' thing.

when i was looking for the title of my jayvik severance au i remembered the i will love you letter from lemony snicket, you know the one,,, "I will love you no matter how many mistakes I make when trying to reduce fractions, and no matter how difficult it is to memorize the periodic table....I will love you if I never see you again, and I will love you if I see you every Tuesday..." etc., etc., and i'm just thinking,,, how have we not imprinted more on this in terms of jayvik,, in all timelines, in all possibilities yanno

Okay so I know this is a touchy subject already especially since certain people have already been bitchy about it before, but sometimes Crowny is genuinely difficult to play as. I feel super conflicted about them since they're the literal personification of "damn bitch you live like this?"

Realistically, progress isn't linear and different people get different results even if they do the exact same thing, but as of now it feels like they aren't really allowed to improve at all. If you study you're still mediocre leaning towards bad in terms of understanding. You try to workout you see absolutely no results, not even the tiniest bit. When it comes to the other characters, it's always one step forward and two steps back. When you give them a hobby or try to get them to pick up a skill they find little enjoyment. When people bother them they barely fight back or even argue, and when they do it's like a sarcastic quip or a grumble at most. By the end, they haven't even made a dent. These don't make them less of a person and it doesn't make them a failure since the world is quite literally out to get them, but it's like they aren't allowed any satisfaction in their life. (Yeah it's been like a month, maybe barely scratching two in the current timeline so maybe this contradicts what I first said about progress but I'm dumb as hell)

It's wild to go from the side quests, backstory segments, interactions with the ROs and then Crown family just for all the hype to fade when there's a segment with just Crowny all alone. I know that there's a reason for why they are the way they are, but I literally have to take breaks from reading their solitary moments sometimes because it seems to drag on. I know things aren't easy in this universe, I know the world is supposed to be cruel and unfair, but like can they at least get a cake for their efforts? Or a hug? Or be able to sleep through one night and wake up well rested?

I hope I'm not sounding like an asshole or a insane here. Personally, they're relatable in a lot of aspects. I may not have had supernatural shit going after me, but I had a lot of issues that many of their experiences brush way too close to. It's just the way it's presented that makes them feel like they're like the random piece of chewy cartilage in an otherwise perfectly cooked steak, unpleasant but I'm gonna eat it anyway.

I literally just wrote a whole ass book complaining, but I at least wanna say I do love your work, Crowny included even if my words seem to say otherwise, and I'm super excited to see what happens in the timeskip since i know this is like JUST the beginning. I'm like seriously praying my tone is coming off the right way if that's even possible. If you read through all this thanks. I'm not gonna hide behind anon because I at least wanna be able to explain myself if this comes across wrong.

And that comes from the fact that they are self loathing, depressed as hell and have virtually no support system while dealing with things that they aren’t mature enough to handle, actually their mental health is getting far worse which is by design

I feel like perhaps some readers have not realized just how depressed crowny is. All the things you described about them finding little enjoyment, etc., are key markers of major clinical depression

I feel also people did miss the fact that crowny kind of exploded in the library they didn’t shut up, they didn’t let it go which I think is a positive because this is the first time they’ve have enough to say “enough”

Sorry but I like my things slow burn 💀 that Halloween party is meant to be a breakthrough for them and I think perhaps it’s been glossed over by some because what happened to James has gotten the most attention and the final moment in the woods. Crowny outed their “friends” for the first ever and fought back against their tormentor in only one single night. James for all his issues did the one thing that broke the camel’s back and pushed Crowny over the edge, all 7 episodes have led to this

Crowny is meant to fall before they come up that’s how I wanted it because realistically someone could not handle all of this without losing their mind. It has barely been two months, Crowny has only seriously hit the main plot in episode 4 which in the current timeline was about 3 weeks ago (from episode 7)

Truly the progress that crowny did make in episode 7 should have taken longer, people with crowny’s issues spend years in therapy before they feel they have the right to fight back.

There’s a reason episode 7 is the midseason finale. It’s not only about the plot but about crowny themself….

satc!nancy is absolutely the miranda of the group. shes a journalist for the New York Times...not huge in the scene because she needs a few more years under her belt but she is definitely taken seriously in the business. she doesn't take any shit when it comes to her work, she worked hard to get to the place she's at and she'd be damned if she didn't work her ass off everyday to get better at her profession. she talks sense into both you and robin: very reminiscent of miranda's whole speech about being a group of intelligent women who should be able to talk about things that aren't just rooted in dating and relationships. she met jonathan in a bar and coincidentally they shared mutual friends, one of which being you and then his numerous other photographer/arts based friends some of which that also work within the newspaper world.

satc!robin is the charlotte of the group but i kind of use that term very loosely. she for sure wants that little perfect romance type thing but shes obviously not as conservative as charlotte. though i will say she definitely goes into so many relationships with the mindset of "oh this is it, i can feel it," before being let down. i imagine she's doing more odd jobs/side gig that relate to music or the arts. i can oddly see her as a standup comedian: her schtick being about growing up in small town indiana. growing up as a lesbian in small town indiana at that. she's funny and independent despite her wanting that aforementioned romance. i can see her dragging the group of you to movies and cute little restaurants.

satc!reader is the carrie of the group but i also say that loosely because carrie is lowkey a mess and i refuse to wish that upon you. you work an office job to a big woman-owned magazine company and you double as a bartender sometimes at a place that's by your apartment because a) you got particularly close to the owner and b) you, nancy, and robin frequent that bar heavily. and not to mention you don't mind helping a friend out at his self-owned bar.you want the one in a way but you're far more level-headed and roll with the punches with the people you date. you're someone who genuinely think that you three where meant to be together at the same place, at the same time. thinking about the whole "what if we were supposed to be each other's soulmates?" moment in the show.

my destiny revan au is something i cooked up with a friend and is maybe kind of wild even by destiny terms. my gdoc timeline for it is far from done and it's already at 3k words. i have at least two playlists for this au alone. it's bonkers. so i don't think it's a great litmus test for destiny lore to people who are just getting familiar with it.

so in destiny there are two para-causal fundamental forces that sort've fill the niche of magic/The Force and that's Light and Darkness. it's not like the force where it's like. two halves of the same coin or even branches of the same tree. they're separate and distinct forces that have a complex interaction with each other. in destiny, risen/lightbearers/guardians (people brought back to life as immortal* warriors with Light powers aka the player characters) mostly wield Light and sometimes Darkness (the latter being a very recent addition lore-wise) and while Light and Darkness themselves are very Force-like fundamental forces that shape the universe itself, the way that guardians interact with them is much more mage-like in a lot of respects with like. oh this guardian is a lightning type and this one is a fire type and such.

Now you don't have to be a Lightbearer to use the Light, nor Darkness (though iirc using darkness is easier for non-risen), but risen are the ones with all the cool attacks.

revan is none of those things. tbf their au was mostly based around the idea of them being very close the Warmind Rasputin and the two are totes besties forever who would kill god and break the universe for each other. rather than it being about 'fitting revan's storyline into destiny as best as possible' because that is. REALLY hard to do with revan in destiny it's mostly about revan and ras being platonic soulmates, aka what if revan had a best friend and the two didn't cannibalize each other. what if revan went to war and no one held them back. what if the one thing revan felt betrayed them (the traveler) ended up kind of making it up to them.

so revan is uh. well. -looks at my notes- the hidden first speaker who survived after the collapse, had a brief internship as a disciple of the witness before they fucked it up and got stuck in the black garden for like. at least half a millennia and unmade into a god before finally breaking out in like. season of the undying (garden of salvation raid.) and yeah like none of those words make sense if you dont know destiny but that's the only way i can summarize it without writing another massive text block. anyway here's the title of my gdoc for this shit i've cooked up:

Honestly, I don’t see how this applies to Vanco.

taking everything we see in the show:

Mylo and Claggor have known each other since they were children and were raised together, which is why it’s seen as so brotherly.

Silco raised Jinx since she was a kid, and he calls her his daughter (NOT sister, as he has before when talking about Zaunites in general, so we explicitly know that he sees her as family/his daughter), which is why Jilco is so uncomfortable and icky.

We don’t know what ages Silco and Vander first met or under what circumstances, so there’s nothing to be said about that. Silco and Vander do refer to each other as brother/friend, fair, but we already know given context that brother/sister is a term used to refer to fellow Zaunites.

People interpreting the scene of them together in the alternate timeline as romantic is not that far-fetched, although saying it’s canon from that is silly. But most probably mean it as a joke?

Also, I don’t think anyone gives a fuck what the writers say on character relationships at this point? They gave Vi enforcer trauma to spice up her dynamic with Caitlyn, claimed Viktor was asexual after people started shipping him with Jayce more (as if that means he can’t have romantic relationships), and overall wrote the shittiest, copaganda ass ending to a story about class oppression.

That being said, taking what the writers say with a grain of salt and shipping whatever the fuck lol

There is way worse of an issue with Jilco than it being incestuous, but besides that I agree with this post. But this also applies well to Vanco. Just because Silco puts his arm on Vander's shoulder or they look at each other with love "Vanco is canon" "they are married in the au" seriously?

Silco and Vander see each other as brothers, just as Jinx and Silco see each other as family, it doesn't matter that they aren't related because you don't have to be related to someone to be family. If you don't like that then complain to the writers who confirmed that, not the people who don't ship them or understand that the writers decide what's canon, not the animators. If the animators decide what's canon, by that logic Jilco must also be canon since many animators pushed for it.

It's an almost cruel irony just how strongly they've been set up to fail at something that shouldn't even have been a test in the first place. 'And there's only one bed' is a concept straight out of some cheesy romance story, but it's also a reality observed by the duo staring down at the solo queen-sized bed available in their rented suite. And soon enough, feelings and questions they've each tried to bury and forget are pried open at the instant they respectively slip beneath the covers. Is this love, and if it is, is it real?

Not that Caleb understands the world as such, but a human on the most basic level of biological comprehension is nothing more than a collection of electrical impulses trying desperately to make sense of its environment. A person is little more than a meatsack firing off a series of synapses that create a chain reaction of chemicals that result in a thought. The thought then cascades into a look, a word, a gesture that spirals into chaos and the ruin of mankind itself. 

Humans are powered by a science that they seldom possess the capacity to even try to think about. Most never question whether their experiences are real or not, if the things they feel are authentic and true or just some story they tell themselves to define who they are, or why they act in the ways that they do. Sleep is a prime example of the same process by which entire civilizations have been brought crumbling to their knees.

But it's the drowsy press of his mouth he offers up to Maeve's that surpasses any notion of war or love or reality that ever has or ever will exist in any possible future. He can barely keep his eyes open, which is fine for this — they're not necessary for kissing anyway.
