Thanks so much, @fansplaining, for engaging so deeply with my thoughts! I really valued hearing your discussion. And now I'm going to jump into further musings and nuance, and demonstrate some of my famed bolding and bullet pointing you mentioned in the podcast. ;)

I think my letter makes me sound a bit more pie-in-the-sky than I really am about the potential to change fandom culture in any online spaces. (Followers of my writing may not be shocked to hear that I actually edited down the letter I sent you from something that was at least twice as long and contained more nuance, ahaha. 😅 ) But while I do think that there are big challenges to improving our online culture, I've also been very inspired by a lot of things fandom has done together, including:

Welcome redditors to Tumblr in helpful and seemingly productive ways, and also write genuinely helpful and detailed guides for one another on how to do all sorts of things (migrate fanworks from one platform to another, learn to use various online tools, etc).

Fundraise a lot of money for charities through fandom auctions/events (e.g., FTH)

Organize group action (e.g., #EndOTWRacism, fans4wga, and Zero Comment Challenge, to name three very different examples)

Build AO3 (!!!) and work on new platforms like Bobaboard

...So I also don't want to prematurely write off the ability of fans who want to improve things!

I certainly don't think we can by any means completely solve bad takes, pile-ons, flame wars, or the like. But I wonder whether it is possible to give fandom noobs in particular more helpful pointers & guideposts, or help nudge people who care about having better fandom spaces in good directions. I think it's not obvious to everyone that, say, engaging with a hot take can amplify something that only a few people believe into something that looks much bigger and scarier. And my other meme ideas all also came from things that are reminders I myself could sometimes have benefitted from. XD

In the longer (unsent) version of my letter, I also had other ideas brainstorming besides memes (which are certainly too short to capture nuance), including these ideas:

Some kind of "fandom court" podcast, kind of like Judge John Hodgman but possibly also including some more serious online arguments, where people bring their fandom disputes and talk them through in detail. (This was a bit of a wacky idea, but I was trying to think of something that allows a bit more of a deep dive/nuanced understanding by both parties, and that reminds us all that the people on the other side of the screen are real people. Because I really admire those aspects of Dylan's podcasts a lot.)

A "What I wish I'd known as a fandom noob" netiquette guide, maybe even with data attached about how many fans who responded to a survey believe that you should follow certain practices when commenting on AO3, or when writing/tagging a tumblr post, or when starting a new fandom discord server, or etc. (This faces trickiness of how to do good data collection, of course, but of course I fantasize about attaching data! XD )

Some kind of recommendations about how to be a good ally to someone who is getting unreasonably piled on, and recommendations about how to best engage/not engage with online disputes (for people who actually care about trying to build good fandom spaces and don't just like fanning the flames).

Would everyone/most people read with and follow such advice? No. Would enough people to make any difference? I truly don't know.

Anyway, even with all that nuance, I may still be too pie-in-the-sky here. :) But I'm curious to hear the thoughts of anyone who has any thoughts or has seen any successful attempts to shift fandom culture in any online spaces.

I went through all companion banters on DanaDuchy's channel after playing the game to write down all facts about companions/the world that I haven't seen brought up anywhere in the game as a writing reference (and for funsies).

disabled trans woman in need of help paying impound fees + rent

hi its me again coming in to ask for some help. in spite of a lot of positive momentum in my life as of late, i faced a pretty rough setback after my car was stolen from right in front of my house. the "good" news is that it was found and brought to a tow yard but the bad news is that its gutted and practically undriveable and insurance will not pay out for this due to the age of the car and its status as "high risk" for theft. im looking to sell off what i can and scrap the rest instead of selfishly begging for the thousands of dollars its going to cost to replace everything that is now missing. the dilemma is, i still need to pay the fee to get the thing released and towed somewhere safe, which amounts to the exorbitant fee of about $900 all because i made the "mistake" of getting my car stolen and then being out of town when it actually got located.

this is compounded with my need to pay rent for the month of july. i have been unemployed and taking small freelance gigs as a result of my chronic health issues making it nearly impossible to work a regular 40 hour week. i've been focusing on treating those issues and trying not to exacerbate them further than i already have. i have severe difficulty walking for extended periods of time and have to push thru pain just to move my body and it makes getting about town without a car while living alone a real struggle, which results in me requiring delivery and rideshare services to fill in the gaps where i physically cannot.

i know there's a lot going on right now but if you can spare a few to help me out it would be immensely appreciated. i've set a goal that should reasonably cover all of the aforementioned costs. pls help or share, i'm sorry for begging like this but i don't know what else to do right now! life keeps happening and its hard and i just need some help. thank you <3

Persisting is the key

persist: continue in an opinion or course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.

When it comes to manifesting something, what you have to do is persist. When we say to persist we basically mean to continue your regular day while knowing that you already have what you want. A lot of people mistaken this term and believe that persisting has to do with the 3D and "waiting" for the desire to reflect. If you do this, I have to tell you that you won't get anything at all. Everything we do that has to do with changing ourselves to the desire version of them has to do with imagination. So the reason why you persist in an assumption is because it has already been done. When you already have something, you don't wonder if you actually have it I mean, doesn't this sound dumb? For example, you know that you have a bed in your room. Do you ever wonder to yourself "wait do I actually have a bed in my room?" Nope. You know that you have it, you are persisting in the assumption that you have it. That's it. That's exactly what you have to do:

Know that you have your desire the second you accept you do.

Continue living your day while knowing that you have it, aka persisting.

Let's look at an example: A girl named Rachel decides to manifest longer and healthier hair. She reads a post where it says that her only job is to persist. So what do you think Rachel exactly has to do in order to get her long and healthy hair ?

persist in the assumption that her hair is long and healthy in imagination and that's what matters.

persist in the assumption that if she constantly tells herself that she has long and healthy hair, this will reflect in the 3D soon.

If you choose the first bullet congrats you understood today's post ! If you choose the second, re-read this post as many times as you need to understand it.

Persisting has nothing to do with the 3D. Nothing about manifestation at all has to do with the 3D. If you keep "persisting" in the idea that in this way it will reflect, you will just get disappointed for not getting shit and you will continue repeating the same circle. Change yourself in imagination and persist in this idea. That's all you have to do.

You assumed your desired face hasn't manifested despite not having looked in the mirror.

You assumed you don't have the money to buy that super cute thing you saw despite not checking your bank account.

You assumed your SP hates you despite the fact you haven't spoken to them.

You SWEAR up and down you haven't been checking the 3D but if that's the case how do you know it hasn't manifested?

You, right now, are operating under the assumption that it isn't working. Then when the 3D proves it to you, because it's job is to provide evidence of your assumptions, you throw a fit.

You seek out advice, methods, motivation, because you assume that you don't have it/can't manifest it.

I say this with love, a lot of you only persist when it's easy. Persistence MEANS you continue in the face of difficulty.

Assumption is knowing that regardless of what you're shown you already have your desire.

If your assumption ends when the 3D says otherwise, it is not an assumption.

If your persistence ends when you face obstacles, it is not persistence.

If you stop persisting when the 3D shows you what you don't want, by definition, you are not persisting.

If you stop persisting when you feel discouraged, by definition, you are not persisting.

If you want it, view the world as if you already have it, no matter what happens.

Think as if you have it, even in the face of difficulty.

Because that's IT. YOU HAVE IT. That is all. Bloggers are trying to help but at some point you will have nothing to learn, because there is no more advice to give.

You keep getting the same advice because you keep making the same mistake.

There is nothing more to know. There is only the law.

Just keep fucking going.

These are some thoughts and observations based on recent news; if you do not wish to engage with this or pay attention to it at this time, please do not read. This message is intended to offer insight to those who might feel in need of it.

The first thing to do is to practice self-care, and bring mindfulness to your acts of self-care: whether that is a long walk, a long shower, a longer allowance of sleep, time with loved ones, or cooking delicious food—whatever self-care looks like for you, please prioritize doing as much of that as you can for a while.

The second thing is to widen the circle, and bring attention to your loved ones: family, friends, coworkers, internet friends, children, pets—it’s a really good time to connect, listen, and offer compassion, support, and love to the other people in your life that you really care about. And if you are someone who experiences difficulty with accepting support from others, this is a great time to practice that as well.

The third thing is to widen the circle once more, and bring your attention to your community. There is a lot of work to do, and about the only thing we can say for sure about the future is that there will be a lot more: your help is needed, your help is invaluable, there is a need for education, solidarity, compassion, innovation, and determination within a community framework. Your hands and voice and will and heart can make a tremendous difference in the lives of so many, many people: but you need to do those first two steps before you can meaningfully and responsibly engage with this one.

And finally, I find it helpful to remember (and you’ll see that this connects to all three steps above) that all oppressors want those that they would oppress to feel isolated, afraid, and hopeless. So when you find yourself feeling those things, check and see if there is something you can do to move to a different emotional space, either by getting help, or through application and engagement, or through focus and deliberation (personally I tend to fall back on defiance, stubbornness, or spite—the three main qualities that helped me make it to adulthood. Hey, I mean, whatever works).

your 3d literally has no choice but to catch up and reflect the new thoughts that ur thinking in ur 4d so just KEEP GOING. if ur gonna whine or complain every step of the way and think thoughts like "persisting is hard" or "theres lots of resistance/difficulty with manifesting" then thats what ur going to experience.

manifesting is easy, effortless, and instant. when u catch urself thinking thoughts that perpetuate the old story, remind urself that no matter what, whatever u persist in will harden into reality simply because it HAS to. stop getting in your own way!!

literally something i think about alot and a direct quote from yours truly like most people do think that you can have something because its quote “unrealistic” or it “doesn’t exist” but if that were really the case than why is the concept of it allowed to prosper like if those things really didn’t exist then the concept of billionaires or superpowers and superheroes wouldn’t exist or even time travel everything single one of those things are a product of imagination!!!

alot of the times on loablr you see people say “you’re the only power” and “you don’t even need that method just imagination and that honestly just so real because if you really think about all of these methods ie: 48 hour challenge, 10k affirmations method etc.

and the void state those things also stemmed from that person’s imagination when you use those methods or use subliminals all your doing is giving it a smidge of your power the method is only powerful because your giving it that power in conclusion you and your imagination are the only things that matter !!

a brief look at pixie biology

most pixies are very short and stocky, with square builds. they're the smallest of the seelie

body hair is infrequent, near non-existent

males are ever-so slightly larger than females on average, though it hardly matters

pixies function very similar to fairies, they have near identical anatomies and also get inebriated from sugar

primarily eat fantastical beasts along with magic supplements

pixies grow up a little faster due to less time needed maturing their core systems. takes them about 1300 years.

pixies take very few genes from their non-pixie parent- a hint of eye color here, a darker skin color there..

despite their funky core systems, pixies, once given the magic-using tools they need, are just as adept with magic as fairies

they all speak with the same flat tone, but tend to have difficulty masking their expressions

they have an inborn talent for numbers and repetitive behaviors- they flourish in a group where everyone has a set role that they do over and over again.

each pixie is given a set role after their rearing period has ended. some pixies show the rare ambition to climb some ranks but most are generally comfortable with where Head Pixie puts them.

all fairy-based seelie buzz their wings but pixies are especially guilty of buzzing when agitated

pixies used to be quite rare, with small mixed families, usually employed by fairy companies to deal with paperwork and other tasks- librarians, attorneys, secretaries, etc

honorable mention: the curious case of Head Pixie

so many people cannot stand this guy.

this guy is weird. the council does not like weird. he is like, biologically, the biggest outlier for the pixie species ever

side note: my HP doesn't look as old as canon due to the way my fairies age (and pixies generally live longer anyway since they consume magic rather than produce it) but he is still, in fact, very old

fey dad, pixie mom. HP's pixie status was debated hotly for a long time due to the main factor that he had a functional central core- in fact, it was too functional; HP produces too much magic for his system to handle on a regular basis.

HP handles this in two ways; lots of offspring and lots of using his magic to power things. man, building a business empire is easy.

he's larger than the average pixie as well, by 7 inches (this makes him look huge)

all of HP's kids are normal pixies (barring the handful of fairy children)

HP is old. really old. he's about to hit a million. he's older than jorgen's nana. he's showing his age but he looks pretty good. his fey lineage and magic overproduction are the primary reasons for this, but he just likes to say he lives off black coffee and pure spite. he is staying around forever, baby.

Are you really persisting??? P.1

Persistence is soo important in getting what you want. There's a lot of people that like to throw "persist" around loosely without really knowing what it means.

Persistence ⋆ firm or obstinate continuance in a course of action in spite of difficulty or opposition.

Persistence is only effective if it is continuous.

True persistence means that you stick to your new story more often than not.

Example, Chloe has a desire she wants manifested. She'll live in her imagination for a whole day and feel so confident. Chloe claims it is done. Next day, she'll start the day in her imagination however for the rest of the day, she'll let her mind run wild with thoughts not aligned. Chloe will repeat this cycle of living in the end and then returning to the old state. Then, Chloe will think to herself, "I said it's done, why isn't anything happening, where's my desire??"

Chloe is close to making her desird state dominant but the process restarts everytime she returns to the old man for the majority of the time. She says she is persisting because she can live in the end but she will continue entertaining the old story more. She also delays the process by questioning the how and when.

This takes discipline and a mental diet. It also takes a level of awareness because it can easy to go back to our old story unconsciously when it is our dominant state. This can take less than a day, two days, or two weeks to create a decent level of discipline and awareness. It's different for everyone as we are all on our own journey. ♥

The problem with being too much is not knowing where to put it and how to hide it. When I was in grade 5 I had a friend. I loved her enough to want her to have all of the world that I knew and had. I didn't have much, but on her birthday, I wanted to give her a big gift. So I took a pink shoe box although I didn't have much to put in it and put in the best of the things that I had. Despite them being used, I wanted her to have them. A beautiful key tag, a colourful pen, a card, an artificial flower and a lot of old things. My mom took one look and gave me a lecture that it's not appropriate to give old things as birthday gifts. But it was everything that I wanted her to have and everything that reminded me of her. It was all I had. I couldn't ask mom to buy me things when I knew she had it hard. So I hoped for the best and gave the gift I put together to my friend. I felt proud to see her smile at the big box in spite of my overwhelmed broken heart. Because I wanted her to have the best but I could not give her the best. I could only give her all I had. It was things like this that made me inappropriate. I cared too much, I wanted to give a lot, I wanted to solve your problems and feed you tasty home made dishes and hear your opinions and ideas and difficulties but it was nosy, unnecessary, overwhelming, serious, boring, elderly, over-sensitive, fragile, problematic and all the terms that they used to put off my strongest of feelings. I was simply too much, although that made them happy they didn't want that normal. Not too often. So I hid it. I grew tougher, stronger and even though I was too much and i hid it well, I still wrote my friends love letters with essays too long which I could only send on their birthdays and hope I put it in a safe place

Some thoughts on the way Spite speaks

Every fic writer that heavily features Lucanis in their works will have to deal with incorporating Spite into the narrative sooner or later, and since I reached that point myself, I've decided to look through the script to have a deeper look at his speech patterns.

Most of the time, we hear Spite speak directly through Lucanis, taking control of his body by force. During such moments, Spite's speech is quite jagged, frequently separating auxiliary and main verbs into different sentences, and a lot of sentences being a single word:

(during the Murder of Crows) Lucanis (Spite) : Too much. Walking. Where. Is our prey?

(in banter with Emmrich) Lucanis (Spite) : Curiosity. Has. Feet!

(in conversation with Curio and Keepsake at the Necropolis) Lucanis (Spite) : You two! Stop. Being. So. Bright!

However, in the scenes where we see him directly talk to Lucanis, as well as in the Fade during Inner Demons, Spite is capable of using full sentences. Even if the sentences he uses are comparatively short, they are complete rather than a single sentence broken into several smaller ones:

(after the recruitment mission) Spite : He doesn't want to hurt you. How rare. Everyone else does.

(during Inner Demons) Spite : Lucanis is here. Always. Behind locked doors. I can't break through.

My personal interpretation of it is that he may have difficulties with the physical act of speaking - he can think coherently, but he's not used to controlling a body, so he struggles with articulating. I would argue that from Lucanis's POV, the Spite he hears in his head could generally be more eloquent than the Spite that actually gets to speak.

Though there are also some lines that are contradictory to that idea. Some examples:

(after the recruitment mission) Spite : I want. To talk. To Rook!

(during Bloodbath) Spite : No. I want. Her heart. Quivering. On our knife.

(during Inner Demons) Spite : His mind. Is still here. He wants. To stay here. So he keeps. Me here!

There are multiple ways to explain what could cause the difference. I personally see it as him either getting overwhelmed by strong emotions, or wanting to put more emphasis on his words by adding pauses.

But Spite only has 140 lines in the entire game, so you know. Not a lot to go on ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
