#improve my english

I have started watching the german dub of phineas and ferb for fun (or should I say phineas und ferb)

- the va for german candace is pretty good. however I’m fairly sure she is also the va for stacy so whenever they’re together it sounds like she’s talking to herself. she does a good job with the craziness though

- german phineas is kind of annoying I don’t much care for his voice

- german ferb sounds nothing like the og

- german doof is good. idk I don’t have anything to say about him. I prefer the english voice of course (probably cuz I’m just used to it) and I think the spanish dub does a better job at sounding like the og but it’s not bad

- german baljeet sounds exactly the same

- I like the dubs of the songs. they even dubbed the quirky worky song which like they didn’t have to do that but it’s cool

- “perry das schnabeltier” is very fun to say

- the episode titles are mostly way different from the english titles. like for example “don’t even blink” is “der unsichtbare beweis” which translated to english means “the invisible proof.” kind of interesting

- update apparently they changed the name of gimmelshtump to “dunkeldorf” that’s hilarious

Some time ago, I stumbled upon a Spanish theatre adaptation of The Brothers Karamazov that I came to appreciate, despite my mixed feelings on some choices (especially the depiction of Alyosha).

I wanted to share it, so I spent the last week translating it!

Warning for every sensitive topic that is in the book already, nudity in the play itself (hence why the video is age restricted), some expected "out of character"- ness, and a lack of The Grand Inquisitor. Still, I throughly enjoyed translating this and liked some extra scenes for the dynamics of certain characters. You can simply read to see how it is, if that's more convenient, but I really don't think the transcription fully transmits the emotional heights of some scenes. For that, I put timestamps just in case.

'Howard's End' author Edward Morgan Forster was born in London in 1879. He was a pacifist and served with the British Red Cross in Alexandria, Egypt during the First World War. His job was to interview the wounded in hospitals for information about fellow soldiers who were reported missing.

Although he never declared it in his lifetime, Edward was homosexual.  Whilst serving in Egypt he had a three-year relationship with a young Egyptian, Mohammed el Adl. Their relationship ended in 1918 when Mohammed was forced to marry. Mohammed paid tribute to his lover by naming his son Morgan. After his death in 1922, Mohammed's widow sent Forster her husband's gold ring as a keepsake. Edward, by now back in Britain, slept with the ring under his pillow every night. 

He continued to write novels and plays, and was nominated for 20 Nobel Prizes for Literature. Edward died in 1970.

HELLO i'm alive, I just barely survived 9 days in Girona doing costumes for Assumpta's short film reels.....and immediately after we came back I had to do some frantic sewing in time for the week of events planned for the Dos de Mayo. I met up with some new friends I had met at the Museo de Traje two weeks or so earlier, and my Spanish has improved SO MUCH during my time here. I am so happy and having SO much fun. I based this spencer off of one Assumpta wears in Rossini, Rossini!, and had two days to make it. I did my hair how Teresa's looks in a snood in Company, but made a madroñera instead- it's a little lower class than Teresa would've worn, I think, but it was appropriate. (I want to make all of the costumes Assumpta wears in her films and make a pre-war Teresa wardrobe, though I'll be remaking this red spencer!) Over the course of the week we walked through many parks, got to see the changing of the guard, we went to many palaces, and I got to participate in the Dos de Mayo parade and battle, which was insanely cool, and where the first two photos are taken! I also got to go to a wonderful ball and danced with all my friends, which I'll post photos of soon. Now that the events are over, I'm rereading Sharpe's Command bc I have my review in my drafts and want to revisit it.

One of the many things I like about the English language is how affectionate it can be. In my native language it is common to be very rational and unemotional, even with people you are close.

So I really like how much more often the word "love" is used in English, how people compliment each other more often and how it is much more common to use affectionate words.
