some 1D "unseens"

I recently discovered some photos my older sister took when she saw One Direction in 2013. I'm sure you can imagine how devastatingly envious I am of her, and seeing these actually made me feel kind of sick to my stomach at first. But, I have to give it to her, she took some pretty decent photos. So, I figured I'd share some of them with my 1D tumblr girlies, because we deserve a treat after the exhausting few months we've had. Also, I just really love that picture of Zayn. He's so cutie.

yes, yes, boba fett finds it strange and uncomfortable when people can see his face and this is one of the major reasons he almost never removes his helmet (in the expanded universe anyway), but another factor that i think isn't explored nearly enough is just how much his helmet shapes how he sees the world. it grants him 360° vision, lets him interface with his weapon systems and slave I, and automatically dampens loud noises and dims bright lights. imagine going through the vast majority of your life seeing the world through that lens and then suddenly taking it away. removing his helmet for any significant length of time likely isn't just uncomfortable for him but downright disorienting.

It is a beautiful day, and you are a horrible research transport vessel. Things are progressing as normal (i.e. it's boring) when a SecUnit pings you, lies right to your metaphorical face, and then tries to bribe you with human media to give it a ride. This is as unexpected as it is unprecedented, and the sheer nerve of it is really to be admired. There's no protocol to this, so what should you do?

Now, this is against a bunch of rules, and could be dangerous if you weren't so impressive and incredible, and you're technically an employee (and can probably rewrite the Univeristy charter at will (until someone notices and puts it back)) so those rules are for other entities.

So, what you should do is allow the rogue SecUnit with a broken governor module and a sketchy story aboard. If you check the files it dumps and find zero (0) malware (which is confusing), and it doesn't even try to trash the place or lay in wait to ambush a crew member, then you've got a good candidate!

Next, what you're going to want to do is absolutely nothing. Just watch it patrol your halls until it's time to leave. Continue staring at it while you're undergoing embarkment procedures. Maybe analyze it a little (you've got plenty of processing power to spare) when it finally sits down and starts watching media. Allow it to settle in and get comfortable while you stare at it and get further and further from port.

Now that you two are alone (intimacy is key!) and you've determined that watching media is all the SecUnit is going to do, it's time to make contact! Make sure to open by telling it it's only survived due to dumb luck, and letting it know you could melt its brain into putty. This starter will work to develop conversation naturally and smoothly, just like you've seen the humans do, and it will be smooth sailing from there!

This little girl is my very best friend. It's mutual. We love each other more than anything.

I hadn't got home early enough after class and was so tired I just fell asleep until the evening. I was naughty and really missed her, so I gently dug up where I thought she might be, asked if it was okay for me to take her out (she did not object and sleepily allowed this). After a short session of cuddles and her nuzzling me, I accepted I had to let her sleep and set her back in her enclosure.

And several times she burrowed a bit, but then would look at me and then wander about. Are eventually ended up in her egg, like this, but also not burrowing. Every time she'd start she'd stop herself and look at me and come back- like she was tired but didn't want to go to sleep because she missed me too. Aw babe.

Part of me wonders if maybe she didn't go to sleep because she knew I missed her- silly to think about until you remember she's done this for Sakura when Sakura was scared and needed her. I kept looking over at her, and she'd slightly change position. I couldn't help myself and I just told her how much of a sweet little cream brulee she is and how happy I am she is here with me, while slowly shaking my head back and forth while giving her a long distance nose-rub kiss. And a moment later, she was doing the same gesture back! Little baby, did you learn another way to say, "I love you"?

I think I'll keep doing this gesture when I tell her how much I love her and see if she does it back again. If so- my goodness, of the tiny vocabulary she has, she will have dedicated two of her words to love. She already pets both me and occasionally her sister. She pets herself to ask for affection. She is the most loving being I've ever known.

She was a little naughty and tangled herself up. It might have been an accident, but I think sometimes she does it on purpose, just so I'll take her out and reposition her comfortably.

We both enjoy me doting on her and caring for her. She likes the attention, and will give a tiny polite hiss if she has had enough.

Once she was neatly put in her egg, we both needed sleep. The next morning she was waiting for me. If course she got all the love again! It makes me so happy to know she looks forward to seeing me as much as I do her. Sometimes we play. But sometimes, when it's just us, the rest of the world stops existing, and for a moment we're both together where all there is is that feeling I've been looking for for as long as I could remember. The feeling something is missing is gone, the need for answers quenched, the something I need to find has been found. And all that is left is a moment of bliss.

I suppose to anyone else this probably sounds like nonsense, but that's okay I suppose. But maybe I'm not the only one who feels this when they're with their very favorite person. My very favorite person just happens to be a not human sort of person- but that doesn't matter to me.

Perhaps she might be the one to help show those with an open heart and mind how loving snakes truly are. So much of her is just being loving and kind, as well as helping. Of her very limited language, love is so important to her she's learned to say it twice. n_n

i saw a thing where it's Aaron cheating on Katelyn with Kevin and i propose a better idea. Katelyn and Aaron in an open relationship and Katelyn is hooking up with Kevin but she hasn't told Aaron yet bc she's worried bc Kevin is Aaron's best friend and she's trying to find the right moment but every time she tries something happens and she has to postpone. meanwhile Aaron is also hooking up with Kevin and knows Katelyn is too. he just assumed they both knew this and just didn't talk about it

really love how throughout a lot of smith and jones martha is really skeptical and apprehensive towards ten (+ one of my favorite exchanges between them - "what, people call you 'the doctor'?" "yeah?" "well, i'm not. far as i'm concerned, you've got to earn that title."), not taking everything he says at face value, even doubting the fact he's an alien until over halfway through the episode.. And like. i really truly think the thing that wins her over isn't him kissing her or any of the other insane mixed messages he manages to send, it's this scene here, where he /earns that title/ in her eyes:

(+ david's bit in the commentary, where he says: "[the doctor] has actually sacrificed himself, and - i would say, that that final act of selflessness is what finally, eventually, welds martha to him. [...] and she now returns it. she returns that act of selflessness.")

this is what their relationship is built on. it isn't about martha being the second-best replacement to rose or a rebound or whatever. bc it isn't really about rose. it's about doctor-in-training martha meeting someone (quite literally, "the doctor") whose ideals she aspires to, and doing her best to be the same person to him as he is to everyone else. it's about ten in return admiring her intelligence and inquisitiveness and how she cares for human life, recovering his compassion, letting himself lean on her for support - and then remembering at the most inopportune moments that he's supposed to not need anyone and be on his own forever. And around in their little nightmare loop they go where they save each other over and over until one of them breaks

i've seen ppl look at martha and go "why she does she admire/why is she so in love with ten if he acts like that to her?" or something along those lines and like. it's not just the fact she's in love with him (in fact i'd argue she actively tries to push it aside post-gridlock). it's the fact that she knows he's the kind of person to put everyone else's lives/well-being over his own. she trusts him to save her when she's in trouble even though it's been like two days at most that they've known one another bc she recognizes that same "deep all-encompassing drive to help others" in him. and she also recognizes, much much earlier than him, that he needs someone to save him, especially when he's unwilling to save himself. and yeah for a bit she thinks he returns her feelings and is just playing hard-to-get, but she realizes pretty early on that this probably isn't the case, and i think that realization fully solidifies here:

And idk it might just be me but i think this expression isn't just her empathizing with his loss. it's also guilt, for wanting something from him that he's clearly unable to give when he's wracked with so much grief. (and you see it in the next episode, where tallulah asks if they're together and martha says for certain that they're not, and that he doesn't know about her feelings for him. she keeps everything to herself bc she now knows that when he shut her flirting down at the end of 3x01 it was the genuine reaction of someone who a) isn't interested and b) is scared of getting close with someone else again)

freema described their dynamic as "she's keener than him" and i think about this all the time. martha doesn't really take what ten throws at her. what she does instead is constantly poke holes in his already-failing front of "i will show someone the wonders of the universe so i can ignore what is wrong with me". what she does is stand up and fight him when he tries to go off on his own. what she does is put aside her well-being in favor of helping someone - just like what she saw him do for the people in the hospital when they first met. tldr, that's the doctor and his doctor and rip martha you would've loved who's gonna save u now by rina sawayama

I think Orym's position here is such a great one to depict, because the reality of any form of political organizing you will find someone who will not budge. This is fundamentally neutral, though someone like this can certainly have a position you find repugnant. It doesn't matter. This is the reality of dealing with that person. If someone will under no circumstances change their position - especially if it's informed by personal experience - that doesn't mean they are a good or bad person or their position is justified or not, but it does mean that to get them on your side, either you will have to find a way to appeal to them, not the other way around, or you will have to move forward without their support.

When encountering someone like this, you can bang your head against the brick wall and tell them about the superiority of your position for as long as you want, but unless you dip into threats and coercion or worse, you really cannot make them do anything they don't want to, no matter how eloquently you speak. There's considerable power in being that person.

(For what it's worth, I think he's perhaps the truest foil to Ludinus in this respect; I believe Ludinus's beliefs to be just as deeply ingrained and immutable. The key difference is that Orym is not in any way responsible for the death of Ludinus's family, or like, Molaesmyr, so when they move into the moral part of the argument instead of simply the blunt reality of unmoving objects, he does have a significant advantage.)
