“Did you hear me? What’s wrong?” She presses, this time reaching a hand out to get his attention. “Do you know what these are?” It’s easier to ask like that. Not in so many words. “A book series. What do you mean?” He swallows the anxiety down into his throat, pointing to the first. “That one, is about you.” His cousin stares at him confused, the truth not yet sinking in. Now he points to the two discarded where he had sat for the entire morning and afternoon and where one fell from his hands when he walked back in. “Those, are about Cissa and Bella.” His heart is pounding, and then all at once it stops. Everything stops. Sirius flexes his fingers around the spine of the book he can’t let go of. “And this one… is about me.”

I'm too excited about this Tim Drake angst fic and it's taking too long to write so in the meantime I decided to post a sneakpeak-

“Now what could be more important than this?” Robin asks, looking at Tim like he’s dead serious. 

Tim thinks it’s a joke and laughs, but Robin doesn’t seem all that amused. “What? Robin, what do you mean?” Tim snickers again. He imagines his mother scolding him for the undignified noise. “Fighting bad guys, obviously.”

Robin cocks his head, and it’s so comical that Tim almost laughs again. “Fighting bad guys isn’t more important than making sure kids like you are safe.”

Oh. Okay. Tim can kind of see his point. “Well, yeah, but I’m not in danger, so I’m not important right now.”

Robin doesn’t seem to like this answer. He doesn’t yell at Tim, like he half expects, just sighs and ruffles Tim’s hair, looking... sad?

“Kiddo, you don’t have to be in danger to be important.” Robin says softly. Tim doesn’t bother arguing that he’s not a baby, he’s eight and a half, thank you very much, which is too old to be called Kiddo. “You are always important. Don’t let anyone tell you any differently, okay?”

Tim nods, more because he knows Robin expects him to than because he actually agrees. Tim’s mother would probably spontaneously combust if she heard Robin telling him this. She tells Tim that he’s not important all the time.

At least, when she’s in town.

He let his hand trail up under the hem of her oversized shirt, feeling the soft skin under his fingertips. Despite the heat of her skin and the glare she was sending him, she shivered. “I know he’s not as good as I am. Did he even make you come?” 

“Maybe he did,” she sassed, defiant as ever. He chuckled, the sound low and mocking in a way he knew would get under her skin even more than knowing that his best friend had told him about their failed tryst. He swore he could almost feel the temperature in the room ries with her ire. 

“Or maybe he didn’t. That’s okay. We both know I’m the best.” 

Her irritated glare morphed into a sharp smirk and a raised eyebrow, and Javy’s cocky grin slipped from his face. He knew before she even spoke that she would win this round - no one ever stood a chance against that look, not even him.
