roland as adrion .. i think i might cry. it'd be a really interesting swap considering adrion's forgiving/subservient nature contrasting with roland's harsher, more bitter one. we've seen roland hold grudges before and that was only regarding terrence leaving them to fight on their own against a fakejoker, so itd be definitely different seeing his reaction to sera's whole incident[s].

evil rei oh my god *keels over and dies*. the idea of ice claws is so cool- especially since he's based on some cooler tones [teal hair, bluey grey x-static costume] it works as a good contrast to volcan's fire.

vaughn and keon switching makes a lot of sense too [since theyre both super shady]. i do agree that while having to swap abilities might be unfortunate, it's pretty pertinent to the plot so it makes sense!

im thinking, is it keene and doc who switch? or maybe doc and kayden. since keene isnt super plot relevant? originally i thought leilah, but im pretty sure she swapped with william :]

also! for some reason, the idea of elaine digging up dirt and isen totally at remi's whim is the funniest thing to me because it's so odd yet so already in character for them. i picture elaine to dig up dirt cause she likes making fun of people secretely [with cecile]-- elaine and cecile are unironically such a great duo in this though -v-

tbh i was thinking of doc and kayden but it can change anytime if a more suitable character appears. if they were to switch, i think kayden would be a newly graduated nurse and darren would be a chemist who’s been working with william in spectre for a long time. kayden has to get involved with spectre some way through william tho, so i think he’d be william’s student/mentee or something? i also thought about going with the original storyline and making them date but kayden and william’s age gap and jane’s role being so ambiguous make things complicated. i’d probably switch kayden and doc’s ages if i were to go with that but i think the first case with kayden being william’s student works kinda better?? i’m a little unsure about this part so i guess i’ll have a more clear idea about them as the story progresses. oh and keene’s swap is probably nadia :) (the lie detector lady)

heheh yes isen and elaine’s swap is so funny to me too. isen just does everything remi asks of him and tries to flirt with her whenever an opportunity arises but remi ignores his attempts completely. i always imagined that she’d ask for sera’s old records from isen because he’s very good at this stuff but wants elaine to question her (idk why i just want that interview scene between them!). but what you said makes so much sense too, considering elaine looks down upon people a lot so she’d probably secretly make fun of people. i think in both ways, that scene would be a good insight on elaine’s character, revealing her prejudiced side. and yea, i love the cecile-elaine duo a lot here, they’re a little less mischievous than blysen (mostly due to elaine’s calmer personality) but they still care about each other sm :>

dnehjlacndas okay this one's hard. because all of the characters have changed personalities quite a bit, especially interacting with John as the protagonist because JOHN changed so much.

I love a lot of the main cast, so John and Sera but also, like, Remi, Arlo, those groups. Also Kuyo. I love Kuyo lol

if I had to put them in an order, I'd say Blyke and Isen are at the top, and Arlo's up there too somewhere but with a grain of salt because I'm still figuring out where his loyalties lie (the comments about Asslo and Brolo are so fucking funny to me)

and then also Sera, and I'm starting to like John a lot better now that he's more under control after... y'know, all of season 1-

uuuuuguguhhhh i hit the biggest snag in my grey company fic yet, which i KNEW would be a big headache but not this big.

i love the lotr films and the books but i like the films a little more- there’s a lot more breathing room and things are slowed tf down. The books are almost non stop action and travel (except when they rest for a month or two lol), and then as soon as they leave lorien they literally never stop moving and it is SUCH a big pain in the ass. (more under the cut if anyone wants to hear the ramblings of a mad woman)

in the books, pippin looks into the palantir, finds out about MT. they all ride like fucking mad men, but gandalf takes pippin to MT, theoden and GC retreat to helms deep. aragorn looks into palantir at helms deep and sees the black ships, and realizes elronds words- they have 10 days before MT falls maybe. theoden leaves first, to arrive at edoras ---> dunharrow but takes the “mountain paths”. aragorn and co and GC leave at dawn. “and while theoden went by slow paths in the hills, the Grey Company passed swiftly over the plain, and on the next day in the afternoon they came to Edoras, and there they halted only briefly, ere they passed up the valley, and so came to Dunharrow as darkness fell.” (ROTK 765) everyone pretty much knows what theyre doing, and gets it done without waiting. aragorn gets to dunharrow first, goes through paths, theoden arrives like a day or two later or smth im too lazy to delve further.

in the films though the palantir scene is delayed until after the return to Edoras with everyone and they even get a party! yay! the GC deserve a good party! especially after the shit theyve just been through lol. so the morning after pippin gets fried by the palantir, gandalf has a little meeting to tell everyone what happened. also the whole bit with Theoden being like uhm...what do we owe gondor...bitch! idk if i’d keep cuz it’s just so ooc but i get why they have it for the films they need that conflict and delay. but anyways, gandalf tells aragorn about the ships, presumably from what pippin told him about what he saw in the palantir, rather than aragorn looking into it himself. or maybe the brief moment he touched it aragorn did see it but w/e. anyways. but he doesnt tell him about the paths, elrond does (elrond is 100% cut sorry lol)

so like everyone has to sit on their ass in edoras while waiting for the beacons after Gandalf gets there (which btw fucks up my timeline so severely i’m wondering if i shouldn’t even bother with my calendar anymore bc i want the film pace in the beginning, shit NEEDS to slow down and they need a fucking break!!!!!! the GC asses are sore!!). the issue is this-- Aragorn knows he must “follow the river and look for the black ships” but not how. They all stay in Edoras sitting and farting and they all go together to Dunharrow once the beacons are lit, rather than separately. And then Elrond comes (don’t even get me STARTED on this scene i love elrond but it makes NO SENSE!!) and tells him hey. use the ghosts. not the women that could probably fight if anyone gave them a chance lol. and THATS what spurs aragorn to go through. and then legolas spouts the prophecy of malbeth which excuse me, why does he know, mirkwood bumpkin.

so now I have this dilemma of information- it’s a matter of when its given, not the information itself. The Grey Company’s whole purpose is A. to aid Aragorn in the hour of his need, at his own (subconscious) behest, and B. bring the words of Elrond to him: Bid Aragorn remember the words of the seer, and the Paths of the Dead. Why would Aragorn and the GC pause at Edoras to party if they know to go that way? If they’re back at Edoras, they don’t know that MT is the next target because Pippin only looks then, not when they’re just outside the Fords of Isen. So are the words nonsensical until they learn from the palantir? I would say maybe they don’t know quite yet where the paths are, but Aragorn in the books definitely happens to know, and in the films he stumbles on it by going with Theoden. I dont think Aragorn could rest much if he knew the words of GC, he’d be mulling them over for a while and then just leave w/o Theoden like he does in the books to get there faster once he did know....maybe we can pretend the info was lost, or Aragorn doesnt mention it until they get to dunharrow to theoden...? who tf knows. its 2am though and my brain is mush and my desk is strewn with maps and timelines and the books so. perhaps a thought for tomorrow

since evie and claire switch, while terrence and dylan switch- do roland and adrion switch? or does adrion switch with someone else?

ooh and maybe elaine, since her ability is stronger now and more complex, rather than amping other abilities, she can control more than just recovery, if that makes sense? im thinking that her healing has since evolved into something more like general body manipulation. things like turning off pain receptors or being able to shut down certain limbs/muscles when she touches them!! but it is an abilty that can easily go out of hand and become op, but i think it kind of fits considering how op isen's is as well- he just doesnt use its full potential. this is just spitballing btw!

i do think that if cecile is more coolheaded, then john would pick her over blyke. she's probably more relaxed and a little less cunning, but still focused on her goals and working smart. i think that that's what john would see- that rather than brute honesty/strength [blyke], cecile is efficient and smart in her methods. especially considering how emotionally tense everyone in wellston can get, he'd probably recognize how important it is to have someone grounded.

also, what are the swap roles for rei and keon? im pretty sure rei swapped with valerie but im not sure,,

i really like the idea about the upgraded version of elaine’s ability!! i think her being able to turn off pain receptors and making somebody more durable for a short while is a great idea. her ability still working in close range and getting weaker as she uses it would prevent it from being op. tbh most of the abilities would be slightly modified because the characters’ levels are different and it’s fun to think about the many possibilities.

yup, rei is valerie’s swap. i’m imagining him recently graduated from university and has been working with the authorities for a while. he’s really smart and a strong follower of the hiearchy, also very admired by remi. oh and we were talking with mer about rei’s power when he’s undercover and they suggested rei would have ice claws, contrasting with canon volcan’s flame claws. and valerie is the old headmistress of wellston during rei’s time, who also was like a mentor to remi. she was known for the new rules she brought to lift up low tiers but  she left her job one year before arlo started wellston and got recently killed by ember.

and i was thinking of keon’s swap being vaughn. i’m planning to switch the abilities of some pairs for plot purposes so i’m guessing these two would be one of those, since keon’s memory recall was an important plot point in john’s backstory.
