About working with Bob: To work with Bob Dylan do you have to be clairvoyant? Whatever you are delivering, make sure it's fresh. If you're doing that…and calling that clairvoyant, you're right. I think it's about being open to where the music is going to take you, and having the ability to seize it immediately. You relly need to have this sense. By that I mean, always pushing the limits. You can't be afraid to take chances. The word is fearless.

Late styles of different musicians do not have many similarities, because each of them deal with their old age on their own way. Some become hopeful, others go wistful, whereas few continue to baffle us. I mean, I am sure no one thought Bob Dylan would release a trilogy of the songs from The Great American Songbook at this point of his career, but he did that anyway. However, he did not decide to do respectful simulacrums of these compositions, he imbued them with his own idiosyncrasies. Thus, when you listen to his greatest albums, you find out they pursue the same modus operandi his LPs before Dylan's Great American Songbook Cycle had. These records of standards still resemble Dylan's current I-always-did.things-my-own-way-weren't-you-paying attention phase, yet the choice of the material makes them look like outliers. Then again, the fact that this can surprise us only signifies how Dylan remains an enigma for us after all these years.
