Day 9: Animal Attack

I've gotten today's out on time! Literally half an hour until tomorrow, but whatever, it's out on the right day! Returning to the Experiments in Blood AU again, because I am rather fond of that one tbh, and I plan to use it for quite a few whumpay prompts.

Sorry if its a bit all over the place, I forgot my meds today as well, so that's fun! Does make it more insane than usual tho. Hope you enjoy!

Animal attacks were a terrible excuse. If you were in the know of the supernatural, you knew it was supernatural. If you weren’t, either you’d bury your head and pretend you believed it, or you wouldn’t. And if you didn’t, well… Usually that ended with finding out about the supernatural, one way or another.

And not even in the nice, gentle way either. More often than not, it was because you’d come face to face with said supernatural, and it would then eat you. If you were lucky, you’d be left with enough of a body to recognise afterwards. If not… Well, that was why there were so many missing persons cases gone cold.

In this case, Elijah found himself musing it over. He was half tempted to let his brother, and said brother’s friends, who were just as hungry, lose onto a small village. It would cause such a mess, though, and he’d have to deal with it. And Kol still wasn’t all that willing to leave his side, either, which did severely limit the amount of places they could go.

With Elijah’s resources, it didn’t limit them too much, but it did change Elijah’s plans for the years after he’d freed his brother. The original plan, which had accounted for some trauma and reluctance to be alone, had almost relied on Kol being willing to at least hunt on his own, like how he had before this whole ordeal.

Clearly, he’d had to scrap that plan. It was a struggle to get Kol to not touch him at all (not that Elijah was trying all that hard, if he was fully honest with himself), let alone move more than a metre away.

Thankfully, it seemed that although all three had imprinted on each other, the younger vampires clung more to each other than to Kol or Elijah. He couldn’t bear to be followed around like a mother duck, the younger ones clinging to each other’s hands whilst Kol clung to his.

There was something to be said for it all, they were definitely following Elijah around now. Whether it was because they trusted him to keep them safe, for some reason, or because Kol refused to leave him and they refused to leave him, Elijah wasn’t sure. He didn’t particularly care, either. The result was what really mattered to him, and that was that he had a couple of vampires following him around now as he arranged for their food, travel, and accommodation.

Honestly, Elijah was starting to feel déjà vu towards the first century or so of being vampires. Arranging for himself and three others, he was missing a female vampire to join them and it’d be almost exactly the same. Except for the century and the actual company (Elijah missed his younger siblings, but Damon and Lorenzo were at least better company than Finn was. Less attempts to make them feel guilty for eating people, for one), it felt very similar.

If Niklaus ever found out about this, he would be extremely upset, Elijah knew. He’d rage on Elijah and Kol for “replacing” him, as if he wasn’t the one to lock their family away in coffins to begin with. And besides, neither Damon nor Lorenzo were violently dangerous enough to be like Niklaus, in Elijah’s opinion. They felt more like his children, if he thought more into it. Grown children, but ones who wouldn’t leave him alone and relied on him for everything at the moment.

Oh, and they kept killing scores of people, because they were hungry, and forgetting to compel any back for Elijah and Kol to eat too.

It was a miracle no hunters (or worse, Niklaus) had shown up in the area, given the amount of “animal attacks” that’d started occurring in this area recently. They’d know that it wasn’t actual animals, only vampires gorging themselves, thus making them a real risk.

Not really a risk to Elijah or Kol, though. More like an annoyance. But Kol didn’t like being far away from his former cellmates for too long, and Elijah had begrudgingly started becoming fond of them as well. And whilst Originals weren’t too bothered by them, they would be very upset if a hunter managed to off the baby vampires with them.

Stewjon is Space Scotland: Names and Naming Conventions

For context, I designed an entire naming system for my Stewjon is Space Scotland AU. I'm still trying to work out the cultural logistics of it, but the actual practical logistics I have down.

To break everything down:

Stewjon is a clan-centric society, with clans and clan names having a hugely important role in the culture. I therefore had clan names feature in both the first and last name of Stewjonis.

-The last name (Kenobi) is the family/clan name, and is passed down the family paternally. This is both because I'm from a western culture with a paternal naming tradition, and also because I liked how his parents names sounded when the last names transferred paternally but not maternally. "Ken" would translate to "Clan" (I don't know if this is accurate to Scots English or Scots Gaelic, but I'm working from canon Star Wars names and trying to worldbuild from nothing so work with me here), and then the clan name "Obi" is attached, so "Kenobi" translates to "Clan Obi" or "of Clan Obi"

-The given name (-Wan, but we'll get to "Wan" in a second) is one to two syllables. All of these names are (according to Wikipedia) actual Scottish names, which I picked from the list mostly based on how well they'd sound next to the clan name.

-The prefix clan name (Obi-) is the interesting part. All children are given the father's clan name as both their first and last clan name. Therefore, Obi-Wan Kenobi, son of Ito-Benneit Kenobi, has "Obi" in both his first and last name. However, upon marriage, the couple swaps their prefix clan names to signify the tie between their clans. Therefore his mother Ito-Ceit Kenito and his father Obi-Benneit Kenobi became Obi-Ceit Kenito and Ito-Benneit Kenobi upon their marriage.

-Originally I was going to do something with the fact that "Obi" means belt in Japanese, such as making the clan names signify professions in the same way "Miller" or "Smith" would in English surnames, but I gave up because Japanese is so different of a language from what I understand that I would have just made myself very confused and everyone who understands Japanese language and culture very mad. So I just went with a vowel-consonant-vowel pattern for all the clan names and called it a day.

-Remember how I said we would come back to "Wan"? Obi-Wan wasn't born Obi-Wan Kenobi. He was born Obi-Owen (Owen is a whole 'nother thing and I decided to just give myself a freebie on it), and his name was anglicized (basic-icized?) upon being brought to the Jedi temple. Not on purpose, but it did happen. So technically the chart above should have him listed as Obi-Owen Kenobi, but I already took the screenshot so this is what we're working with.

-Culturally, it's respectful to refer to someone by their full name (Obi-Owen Kenobi). The full name stands until two people are fairly close to each other, platonically or romantically. The informal, friendly version would be their full first name (Obi-Owen). So you wouldn't call your new friend "Obi-Owen" until you're quite close, even if you're social equals. Technically you could refer to someone by their given name only (Owen), but it's awkward and Stewjonis don't really see a reason for it. All of this highlights the cultural emphasis placed on clans and clan ties in Stewjoni society.

The Family Tree

THE KIDS

Starting from the bottom, we have the four Kenobi siblings. Obi-Conn is the oldest, and he marries Yana-Eóin Kenyana, becoming Yana-Conn Kenobi. None of this happens in the story but I wrote it in the chart anyways. Obi-Eóin is nonbinary, which is why their square is white instead of blue or pink.

Obi-Mór and Obi-Pál are twins and approximately four years younger than Yana-Conn. Obi-Mór is ambiguously disabled (she has some form of muscular disability, but the specifics weren't relevant to the story). Obi-Pál is just some guy and I love him for that.

Obi-Owen is the baby of the family. He's twelve years younger than the twins (16 years younger than Yana-Conn) and was definitely an oopsie-baby. I don't need to say anything else because he is also one of the major characters of the Star Wars franchise. You know him.

THE PARENTS

Obi-Ceit Kenito and Ito-Benneit Kenobi are the Kenobi siblings' parents. I don't have much to say here other than that Ito-Benneit shortens his name to Ito-Ben, to avoid the repeated "eet" sound in his full first name. I'm sure that doesn't affect Obi-Owen's future nicknames in any way!

It is Ito-Benneit fault, by the way, that I made clan prefixes instead of surnames to be switched upon marriage. Culturally, it would have made more sense for the more commonly used first name to hold your birth clan and your less commonly used surname to indicate your linked-by-marriage clan, but I needed Obi-Benneit to marry into the name Ito-Benneit so that I could shorten it to Ben. Goddammit.

THE GRANDPARENTS

Ito-Ben's parents are entirely irrelevant so they don't exist. Sad!

Technically I didn't have to name Ito-Lili Kenuna, but I felt bad having her up there as an unnamed person. Una-Owen Kenito, as you may suspect, is where Obi-Wan's name comes from. I really wanted to highlight his Stewjoni heritage in this fic, so giving him family ties through his whole name was important to me. Obi-Ceit names Obi-Owen for her father because Una-Owen was a strong fighter, and she wants to pass that resilience to her son. Which, uh. Well he sure is resilient to things trying to kill him!

Hello dishonor the game people! Here's a little concept of mine.

tldr: billie has a mimir in the void and delilah paints her dreams

After the events of KoD, instead of leaving Dunwall Billie goes to meet Delilah for the last time in order to mess some of her plans up to help Daud win some time. Daud didn't ask for it, he doesn't need it, Billie does this out of being purely angry with Delilah (and herself for falling for Delilah’s schemes). It goes bad. Horribly bad.

Rather than killing Billie, Delilah traps her in the void painting, where Billie resides sleeping timelessly. Delilah also gets trapped in there by Daud at the and of the Brigmore witches dlc. Daud doesn't know Billie's in the void with Delilah. Events of dh go unchanged.

Events of dh2 still happen, Delilah gets out of void to overtake the throne, Emily has to flee the tower yada yada yada. The people who are helping her get to Karnaca are Daud and Thomas. 

Daud decides to help Emily because 1) he has already dealt with Delilah once and it bothers him that she's onto her rule-the-world bullshit again 2) their joint search with Thomas ended up in Dunwall in the right time to help an empress so why not okay 3) Emily eventually guilt trips him to helping her anyway.

Being it the void with Billie asleep, Delilah projects her artwork onto Billie's dreams. Delilah is bored and angry and will make it everyone else's problem.

Billie's dreams do not reflect her understanding of reality, but Delilah's. People in them are the ideas of whom they actually are, so they act grotesquely unnaturally, some of them share brief character traits with their real versions. 

Some of the whalers, whom Delilah has never seen without a mask, simply don't have a face. The only person she conveys as accurately as she can is Daud (since she had at least seen him in person).

She may make Billie leave peacefully with what she thinks is Deidre, only for the world to crumble around her when she starts asking questions. (this is a reference to THIS FIC please go check it out i think about way more then i should. if it didn't exist this whole thing probably would not too).

To be awoken by Thomas and assume this nightmare has finally ended and then notice a detail that will make everything fall apart, again and again. 

Delilah is always an empress in those dreams. She simply doesn't allow herself to be of less. This helps Billie to identify whether she's sleeping or not when she eventually figures it out. 

She's finally awoken by Daud after 15 years, the only thing she is able to do is to wonder why he grew old, seeing him as being the same for all that time.

Hywel is inspired by a mix of my issues with stories with nonhuman protagonist/about nonhumans becoming human AND vet posts ive seen warning people about the dangers of anthropomorphisizing animals. Its fine to joke about your pets doing things out of spite or other human emotions, it does put you at risk of not being able to read their body language correctly. Cats dont cry out of sadness, a cat crying, with actual tears streaming down its face, is a sign of a medical issue. A dog smiling isn't doing it bc its happy, it means its nervous. Not being able to spot these is bad, and sometimes even dangerous, for you and the animal.

If you never get past Hywel's human appearance and treat him like one its like getting a reactive dog, doing zero research or training, and then taking it to a dog park. If Hywel mauls someone in town then its on you.

So basically: Me - My Anxiety + Papyrus = Tempus. Because if I had more confidence and no anxiety I'd probably be arrogant ajhfjahfjadsjhda

"Sans" in this, universe ig?, is the skelebros last name lol. Because Tempus Sans is one of the closest fonts to Papyrus and it's funny. Sans goes by his last name now. Tempus calls him Comic sometimes to mess with him (or in serious situations maybe)
