Got reminded late last night of my Soft Folk AU, so I thought I'd catch you all up on the info we have thus far! I've been focusing on many of my other projects so it's taken a bit of a backseat for now, but it's hardly gone.

Anyway, lore

Cephalosapiens Flosmollis, aka Soft Folk, are a form of pseudosapien evolved from a common squidlike ancestor. Their most notable feature is a lack of bones in the majority of the body, with a skull, spine, rudimentary collarbone & pelvis, and a few lower leg bones which act as structural support. In all other areas, ultra-dense muscle tissue helps to maintain the form, which also lends them a surprising amount of strength.

Other features include:

-cold Haemocyanin blood, a blue which tints the flesh a purple tone

-fine hairlike setae covering the body, which in typical fae fashion helps to passively absorb energy from their surroundings & maintain body heat. This "fur" is distinctly longer in the animal-like North varieties, though its texture will feel distinctly plastic

-hundreds of microradula lining the inside of the toothless mouth. each of these can be manipulated with incredible accuracy, allowing for complex speech patterns and an infamous slithering "growl" used in self-defense

-a primary self-defense method which is known as "The Hum", a subsonic vibration of the ethmoid or nasal bone which produces vivid multi-sensory hallucinations in the listener due to a "scrambling" of one's neural input

-a mild degree of biotoxin, now mostly confined to small prickly patches on the calf & lower back and the continued presence of aposematic coloration

-a remarkably durable and efficient digestive system, of a degree not seen in any other sophont. They are capable of consuming almost any substance with an 80+% biological composition, and are furthermore extremely well-adapted to filtering toxins. I've seen individuals drink rat poison like alcohol

-long, broad tails for balance

-stubby claws & pseudo-pawpads of raised skin & darker pigmentation

-heart shaped pupils which lack a distinct iris

-long ears & whiskers on the upper cheek/chin, which play a vital role in communication

-the almost complete non-presence of distinct genders or any sexes throughout their biology and cultures. This has of course been changed by the external influence of human control (a topic we'll cover in some detail later) but Soft Folk themselves are universally asexual and thus have no need to distinguish by sex

-a strong sense of caring and social bonding, with high rates of alloparenting and a culture which greatly values the community as a whole. Children (known as Wisps) are typically raised in part by one's entire pack, and their houses will always have communal cuddle pits in addition to the personalized nests of individuals

There are at least 5 distinct subgroups of Soft Folk: the Standard Dollhouse, Greater & Lesser North, Palacine, & the elusive & unstudied Shadows. Within these there will typically be a number of subsets to the subset, akin to "breeds" in their variation and the level of human involvement responsible for their creation.

bringing this back for Husbands Edition

Frank thinks it's both cute and amusing that Eddie has a routine nap. he doesn't usually join, but always makes sure Eddie's comfortable and isn't disturbed.

Frank by now would be well aware of Eddie's poor sleep schedule so he's glad his husband has at least some consistent sleep. Even if it's only a few hours every Sunday.

Sometimes Eddie is able to convince Frank to nap with him. It can be really hard to say no to that sleepy face. Whether or not Frank actually sleeps depends on his mood/energy. Usually Frank would read or quietly watch film or documentary while the two cuddle and Eddie sleeps.

Julie once came over and found them both asleep on the couch. She took a picture, obviously. Frank wants to burn the photo, Eddie wants to frame and scrapbook it.

alright here's a silly headcanon for yall

Eddie routinely takes an after lunch nap every Sunday when the Post Office is closed.

It's such a habit now that he always gets quite sleepy after lunch anytime of the week. But he only naps on Sundays. It's unprofessional to sleep on the job ya know. /lh /silly
