okay I think I've already said this but I head canon LV is your tolerance to pain and exp is the amount you can INFLICT.

so like while the two may not be killing each other, to result in an exp surge, the harm they cause EACH OTHER increases both of their LV.

it's bad at first but after a while it's almost addictive. intoxicating. luckily dust can smack himself out of it but it'd be a lie if I said he was COMPLETELY after the resets.
