the progression from "there's a morning snack and a midday snack" and "20 bucks for pizza" buck looking after his friend's kid to "bobby's famous lasagne: 6 types of cheese cooked to perfection" buck cooking for his family to "that's makes me your sous chef" teaching his kid how to cook is making me go so feral.

the gradual shift in joel from being the guy who’s so desensitized that he can carry a dead kid the same way he carried sarah to the site of her death and toss the corpse into a fire without blinking to being the guy who has a massive breakdown and almost nukes his whole life from the fear of ellie being irreparably harmed while under his care......and the way the last few episodes the show go out of their way to specifically test him on that fear.....like hey joel you’re mortally wounded and can’t protect or take care of her, what do you do. hey joel while you were bedridden she went through the worst experience of her life, what do you do. hey joel [insert spoilers for last ep here, you get the idea]. and he rises to the occasion, he pushes through the fear for her, because she asked him to. she wanted him to be the one to deliver her. she didn’t want anyone else. and he’s decided he’s going to give her whatever she wants

it takes time for the realization that he’s gonna have to confront his worst nightmare to really sink in. he’s built up a mental fortress against what happened to him 20 years ago. and you see that when he really starts to care is when all of that comes back up. the time skip between ep 5 and 6 was probably the Joel Quietly Freaks Out with Increasing Frequency and Intensity variety hour

and him telling her she’s not his daughter. aside from being that thing where you say the worst thing you can think of to someone when you’re trying to end your relationship with them so you can’t go back and change your mind later. but also, when you peel back all the layers of pain and fear, that’s him saying “you are not going to die.” up until that moment it’s the most honest and open expression of his feelings that he’s shared with her. his daughter died in his arms. that’s what happens to “joel’s daughter.” so ellie cannot be his daughter

Understandable BUT a fun thing about Reigen is that he's actually really good at mundane things even with the cringefail energy

Mob and Serizawa are more anxious duo, and Serizawa specifically was isolated so he'd probably take a bit to get used to grocery runs

Okay, maybe this is just me, but the fucking whiplash from the way Sandra Lynn and Jawbone are with Adaine over Fig or Kristen is so crazy to me. It's gotten to such a point that Emily called it out in this last episode. Like, you're telling me that Sandra Lynn can acknowledge that the bad kids have helped raise each other and fulfill emotional needs their parents haven't, but can't put together that there might be a fucking reason Fig is protecting Kristen and Adaine created a simulacrum? Jawbone, as both a guardian and counselor, just let it go that a highly competent rouge capable of finding the rouge teacher straight up admitted (1) she wanted to murder Kristen and (2) she is upset at Fig for keeping her from getting close? All this after years of being obsessed with the bad kids?

Meanwhile, they see Adaine as this competent, low-maintenance, emotionally mature adult instead of recognizing that she was taught from an early age that adults would not meet her emotional needs?

bro ngl i'm in my fuckin feelings about toadsworth like. they literally fundamentally don't know what they're doing. the toads sporeate, their species doesn't raise its young. toads don't have parents. toadsworth doesn't know how to be a parent, but they know that even though full-grown boo and bowser are twice and three times their size, sometimes they look at them and see the little boys they once held in their arms. no matter how strong bowser is, how ruthless boo is, they look at them and sometimes just see something tiny and helpless and precious. something that needs protection. is this how human and koopa parents feel? is it always this terrifying?

I think one thing saki is super thankful of wxs for is occupying tsukasa’s time so he spends less time working himself up & having neurotic little fits thinking she’s in trouble. like make no mistake she loves her brother & finds his bizarre behavior endearing rather than embarrassing (for the most part) (& he’s not grossly overprotective in a way that limits what she wants to do. Thank god.) but also this is the man who charged into a haunted house bc he heard her scream and ran home in a panic because he found out she lied about her plans for the day. Now he has other outlets for his insanity besides worrying about her. Like worrying about being exploded into orbit.
