sorry to say but the maker-fledgling/parent-child relationship dynamics make DM so much juicier. and i don't mean that in a kinky way in the slightest i mean it's insane to be adamant about never having a child for 500 years, break that vow on a whim and then be a deadbeat dad for a bit. and also on the more lighthearted and sappy side of things it's really interesting for a dying man in his 70s to be given another shot at life, with eternity ahead of him and the power of an ancient in his veins to inherit over the course of that eternity. idk idk! it's just neat.
#iwtv#thunder rambles#armandiel#honestly the thing im most excited for in s3 is seeing more of lestat's relationship to the vampirism-as-parenthood theme#i hope we see more of louis' experience with it as well now he's got his new thing of honouring claudia (and paul's) deaths#im also interested to see how they handle armand's side of things cuz it's such a cracked scenario to have him be a deadbeat dad to a 70y/o#and yet. it is a very important thing to establish with him#because he does end up adopting two kids later down the line#and also this whole theme is centred around claudia and i think a lot of the way armand treated claudia#was caused by an inability to feel responsible for her. because hes never been in that caretaker/surrogate parent role like louis has#and if in s3 he feels even an iota of what louis felt about madeleine. by virtue of his maker-fledgling relationship with daniel#then that might make him contend with what he did to claudia in a rly interesting way! or it might not. the show is not about him after all#but i will take crumbs. i'd like for him to feel the sickening overpowering connection to daniel that louis felt for madeleine#and for him to hate himself for it. thats all<3#armandposting#ive been reading a fic that specifically deals with the gravity of the maker-fledgling bond between armand and daniel and honestly#it's completely reshaped how i think about them. i desperately need it to update😭😭😭

Something that I think about a lot is how Phoenix's reputation evolves, because he starts out as the kid with no friends who would stand up to him, to the puppylike college student who got acquitted of the murder of another student and immediately changed the course of his life to become a lawyer, to the guy who interns under one of the greatest defense attorneys since Gregory Edgeworth, to the guy who took over her practice and defeated the demon prosecutor in one fell swoop, the guy who took down the powerful CEO guy who literally blackmailed a bunch of people to suicide and killed a woman with his own hands to keep the truth from getting out and Phoenix went after him in his first case that he took by himself.
The guy who confronted the mafia (twice?) and was the one defense attorney to take the case of said demon prosecutor to go against another unbeatable unethical prosecutor and he did it with a parrot and a single piece of evidence. He defended the chief prosecutor and took down the corrupt chief of police and that's just the first game.
Imagine the press following this guy. You know when you attend a trial where Phoenix is the defense there's going to be some Crazy Shit going on. He will leave his current trial to interrupt another trial and he gets popular enough that someone impersonates him and to the point where an assassin blackmails him into taking a case and this motherfucker still tricks them into incriminating themselves. He exorcises a ghost who has a personal vendetta against him in court and by the end of the trilogy is really well known for the most mindblowing crazy shit and then it all comes crumbling down like two months later.
The most sensational defense attorney is dethroned and adopts his disappearing defendant's daughter and I like to think that when he gets involved with underground poker and starts toeing the line between the criminal world and the one he knows he discovers that he has a reputation there already too. You cannot tell me guy who kind of made friends with Viola Cadaverini is not on the mafia's radar at least somewhat. He got Dee Vasquez arrested and was the one guy not afraid to poke at people associated with Cadaverini, who the entire police force won't dare touch.
it just wouldn't be surprising to me if he unknowingly garnered some street cred, especially if he's seen around Kristoph and Edgeworth, a guy who calmly makes sure he never loses his cases and someone who literally has a reputation as a demon. I just think it would be so funny if people were a little afraid of beanix, just because of what he's heard about him. He's never been violent or anything, but he's dangerous in much less tangible ways. He builds a vibe around him that makes him seem kinda threatening even if there's no proof that he's ever retaliated against anyone.
He stays calm even when he's being put on trial for a murder and in the courtroom there's a feeling that everything is being played like a game to him. He should be in the most vulnerable position but he's entirely in control. He's been an undefeated poker player for seven years and no one but his daughter can even guess about what he's thinking.
Just... the outward mysterious act and infamous reputation that grows beyond Phoenix's control that makes it when he gets back into law kind of hilarious when you think about it. The guy everyone was a little nervous around in the basement of a russian bar/restaurant is now a lawyer again and the first thing he does is defend an orca. The publicity around this guy has to be insane in combination with the whispers in the shadows. It is simply funny to me.
#im due to being annoying again#i can just see the articles in the aa universe#journalists love him doctors hate him#the mafia has conflicting feelings about him#he is both funny and also kind of terrifying which is fun for me#phoenix wright#ace attorney#its also important that he always just stumbled into all the things that get him street cred#he is not doing it on purpose until the beanix years#is this even coherent? who knows

Tiger Club (complete version)
Steddie || 6k words || Modern AU single dad Steve and teacher Eddie || rated: M (for very very light d/s undertones at the end NO EXPLICIT CONTENT they don't even kiss you honor it's ok) fluff and humor
~~~
Eddie’s not usually a teacher to bitch about his job. He loves getting his little kiddos excited about reading and story-telling, and surprisingly, teaching is just as fulfilling as he’d hoped it’d be.
This year, however, he drew the proverbial short straw for extracurricular activities. When he was asked to coach soccer he supposes he could’ve politely declined instead of gagging in the middle of the teacher’s meeting, embarrassing the new Principal and causing the history teacher to actually vomit. Empathetic vomiting– Eddie’s a teacher and he’s still learning something new every day.
Does he really seem like the kind of guy who coaches sports? No, of course not. He’ll leave that to the gorgeous and talented math teacher Ms. Cunningham, and the unbearable meathead Phys. Ed. teacher Mr. Carver, who won’t stop drooling over her like a jock peacocking for the head cheerleader. A relatively adept assessment since Chrissy coaches the Little Tumblers gymnastics team and Jason coaches Tiger Cubs basketball.
Regardless, because of Eddie’s little stunt, he’s been relegated to alternating his after school hours between Tiger Club, and detention. The two most boring extracurriculars for kiddos and teachers alike. All he does is wait for parents to pick their kids up, and they’re either too busy demanding to know why they’re child is in detention, or screaming for them to get in the car, to stop and say well hello Mr. Munson, thank you for watching little Joanie today. The small consolation to his predicament is he alternates each week with Ms. Cunningham.
When Chrissy started at Hawkins Middle last fall, Eddie knew exactly what to expect: an ex-high school jock turned girl’s sportsball coach, hoping to relive the glory days. Someone who’d be cocky, self-righteous, and bitchy.
To his surprise, she turned out to be quiet and withdrawn, separating herself from the rest of the staff. He’d thought she’d warm up soon enough, but when she still hadn’t made any friends by winter break, Eddie decided to do something about it.
He adopted her as one of his sheep– a practice of gathering misfits he’s continued into adulthood. She looked skeptical when he first invited her out for happy hour, wary after weeks of Jason’s obnoxious flirting.
Two margaritas later, he’d learned Chrissy had come out to her family who’d then promptly disowned her for her sinful ways. She moved out, got her degree, and took the first job offered to her at Hawkins Middle.
Eddie couldn’t be more grateful for her presence in his life. Chrissy is his other half and she seems to feel the same. She’s not cocky or arrogant, although she’s definitely bitchy, but in a way which perfectly matches him. Chris knows how to take him down a peg, and he knows how to lift her up. They balance each other inside and out.
The other staff, however, see them as an odd pair solely because of their severely opposing aesthetics. Where Eddie’s etched in hard edges and dark colors, donning leather jackets and a myriad of old concert t-shirts, Chrissy flows in soft lines and pastels, garnered in sundresses and cardigans with the occasional jersey for game days.
Many of the staff also love to gossip about a possible secret relationship between the pair– opposites attract and all of that nonsense– which actually works well for them. Better for everyone to think they’re sleeping together rather than the rural people of Indiana discovering queers working around their young, impressionable children.
From their first happy hour, they’d started the Friday tradition of swiping dating apps and bitching about their love lives over margaritas and nachos. It’s one of the best parts of Eddie’s week.
And it’s Friday, which means they should be huddled in their corner booth right now, one shot of tequila each under their belts. But here he is, standing outside next to the jungle gym at 4pm waiting for the twins to be picked up by their dad.
Go figure the guy’s late. Again.
According to Chrissy, this guy Steve has been late every day this week– and it’s only the first week of school. He’s probably one of those parents who thinks teachers work to serve them, like they don’t have their own lives outside of school. It’s Friday for shit’s sake, he’s hungry and he needs a smoke.
“Chris, this is ridiculous. Detention ends at 3:30, same as Tiger Club. Are we just going to keep letting this guy get away with this?” Eddie’s fingers twitch towards the vape in his back pocket. Obviously he doesn’t smoke in front of the kids, but they’re supposed to be gone by now.
“Eddie, just relax, okay? He’s a nice guy, and it sounds like he’s a single dad with a chaotic job. Try to cut him some slack.” She gives him a reassuring smile, knocking her elbow into his side. “Don’t worry we’ll get some salsa in you and you’ll be good as new,” she snarks.
He shoots her a seething glare but she just smiles at him and smoothes out her sundress against the summer breeze. As Eddie crafts the perfect retort– it was going to be a really good one too– a maroon BMW SUV pulls up to the curb.
Fucking finally, Eddie thinks. If Chris isn’t going to say anything to this guy about his chronic tardiness, then he will.
They both start towards the car when a tall woman with a dark blonde bob and a pale freckled face steps out of the driver’s seat. She’s wearing a cropped Hozier t-shirt and oversized cotton overalls covered in pins. Eddie notices a small white, pink, and orange flag next to a pin of a cartoon ghost with boobs that just says “boooooobies”. He likes her already.
Eddie turns to ask Chrissy who this mystery woman is, but it seems she’s also clocked the pins.
“You’re not Steve,” Chrissy shouts. She winces as the woman arches her brow at the abrupt outburst. “I just mean that Steve has been here every day, and that’s his car, but you’re not Steve. I mean, obviously you’re not Steve, you’re you. You know you’re not Steve, you don’t need me to tell you that.”
The following silence is solid and impenetrable. Eddie’s never seen Chrissy this flustered before. Her bambi eyes shine wide and bright, paired with a hot pink flush climbing up to her ears. She’s fiddling with the buttons on her lavender cardigan and it seems like she can’t decide if she should stare directly at the woman in front of her, or very intensely in absolutely any other direction.
Not-Steve’s growing smile and matching blush tells him maybe he’s not the only one who’s noticed Chrissy’s little crush.
Interesting.
Just as Eddie steps in to save his friend from mortal anguish, he’s interrupted by high-pitched screeches from the playground.
“Auntie Robbie,” the twins cry in unison. It’d be creepy if they weren’t so goddamned adorable.
“My munchkins!” The kids crash into her, the three of them falling to the ground in a heap of limbs. “Oof okay let’s make sure you don’t take me out before I can get you twerps home.”
He only knows of the twins from what Chrissy has told him this week, since she gets to see all of the incoming sixth graders, whereas Eddie teaches seventh and eighth grade. Working with younger kids is great, don’t get him wrong, but the available reading material for his literature units only gets better with age.
The curly-haired boy scrambles up to collect his Minecraft hat from where it’d fallen off in the scuffle. He’s small, hyperactive as all hell, and missing his front teeth, which Eddie can only tell because of the kid’s unbridled megawatt smile.
While the boy raves about his school day, the young red headed girl rolls her eyes at his antics, but it’s easy to spot the fondness underneath. Her two copper braids are adorned with small butterfly clips, matching the fake butterfly tattoos on her left wrist. In contrast to her more girlish accessories, she’s wearing a Hawkin’s Hospital softball team shirt which has to be a men’s medium, at least. It’s been tucked into her hot pink shorts, but it drowns her nonetheless.
In short, they’re both absolutely adorable.
When Eddie turns his attention from the kids, Chrissy’s finishing gently explaining the pick up times. Thank God.
“Yeah, sorry about that,” Robin sheepishly replies. “His shifts have been really hectic this week and he’s on call today so–”
“Wait,” the girl interrupts. “Does that mean he won’t be home for dinner?” She moves to stand away from the mess of tangled limbs, scowling to hide the obvious hurt in her eyes.
“Max, honestly I’m not sure. I know he’s trying really hard to change his shifts, so hopefully it won’t be forever. Okay?” The reassurance seems to ease a bit of the tension in Max’s shoulders and scrunched brow. “But to make up for it, we’re going to have dinner at Aunt Nancy and Uncle Johnny’s house. I think the Sinclairs will be there too.”
“Ooooooo,” the boy teases, a shit-eating grin on his face, “Lucas will be there!”
“Shut up, Dustin!” Her fingers reach up to fidget with the small heart pendant on her necklace, while a light blush coasts across her freckles.
“Okay kiddos that’s enough, let’s get you out of here so your wonderfully patient teachers can actually start their weekend,” Robin replies, smiling while coaxing the twins towards the car. “I’m sorry again for being late, I swear it won’t happen again.”
“Totally cool, don’t worry about it,” Chrissy replies, a little too casually. The scarlet that invaded her chest and ears has receded to a dusting of pale pink on her cheeks. Robin’s smile grows wider as the two women stare at each other, cartoon hearts and flying babies in diapers wielding bow and arrows floating around their heads.
Eddie clears his throat– loudly.
“OH, right,” Robin starts. She reaches up to fiddle one of her many pins as she finally notices Eddie’s presence. “I should let you get back to your, to your uhh, him, I mean.”
“Mr. Munson! He’s just Mr. Munson.” Eddie can actually see the wheels in her brain spinning faster than they can take off. It’s cute, he’s just trying not to feel a little slighted. “He’s my coworker. My friend, actually, he’s my best friend, Eddie.”
“Oh,” Robin says again, more relaxed this time. “It’s nice to meet you. I’m sorry if you’ve had to wait for Steve too.”
“No, I’ve been doing detention, but I’m sure I’ll get to meet him next week. I’ve heard a bit about him from Chrissy. Chaotic work schedule, single dad, twins,” Eddie says, gesturing to Max and Dustin talking amongst themselves.
“Yeah,” Robin absently draws the word out, eyes roaming over Eddie top to bottom.
Surprisingly, he feels himself blush. He’s not even into women but damn has it been awhile since he’s been checked out so blatantly. One of the many queer struggles he and Chris have bonded over is how difficult dating is in Bumfuck Nowhere, USA. So other than the occasional weekend fling in the city for Eddie, and one five-month long-distance relationship for Chrissy, neither have seen any recent action.
Sue him for getting flustered at being so obviously ogled, even if she is clearly into Chrissy. That just leaves Eddie wondering why he’s being visibly raked over by a random lesbian.
“So, Eddie, you said you’ll be here next week, yeah? When Steve’s here for pick up,” she asks, with innocent curiosity in her voice but a glint of something suspicious in her eyes.
“Umm yeah,” he says, very eloquently, “I did just say that.”
“Good! I’ll make sure Steve’s definitely here next week to grab the kids. He should meet all of his kids’ teachers.”
Before Eddie can correct her– he’s not their teacher– Robin shoots him a coy smile and a wink while turning to leave. The kids say their goodbyes, scrambling into the car, and as it pulls away from the curb Dustin rolls down his window to wave as they drive off.
Eddie stands in stunned silence next to his unusually quiet best friend, the two slowly processing the whirlwind of whatever the fuck just happened.
“Well,” Chrissy says, a shell-shocked smile on her face, “I guess we have something to talk about over margs.”
“Yeah,” he agrees, still reeling after the odd interaction, “I guess we do.”
~~~
Weeks go by, and Eddie always seems to miss Steve’s pick up days. Chrissy’s only seen him a few times, but both her and Eddie have been privileged with the presence of almost every other adult family member in the twins’ lives.
Aunt Robin picks them up most days. She always feigns exasperation at Dustin’s boundless energy and Max’s sassy jokes, but laughs every time they tackle her to the ground. Eddie was surprised to find out she actually lives with the kids and their mysterious father. He considered asking her more about the situation, but decided it wasn’t his business.
However, he did find out from Chrissy that Robin and Steve went to the same high school but ran in different crowds. The two reconnected working at Hawkins Hospital, Robin as an interpreter and Steve as a paramedic. They bonded over a particularly difficult patient who’d come in through Emergency and didn’t want someone like Robin working with him, not realizing– as Robin had joked– that Steve was someone like Robin too.
The more Eddie learns about the duo, the more it reminds him of his relationship with Chrissy. It’s at least a small comfort to know they’re not alone in this backwards town.
Aunt Nancy and Uncle Jonathan are the next most frequent visitors. He learned Nancy is a journalist at the Hawkins Post, but is looking to get hired working remotely at a bigger paper like The Chicago Times or Indianapolis Journal. Jonathan is a free-lance photographer, sometimes working for Nancy or the Post, but mostly shoots weddings and family photos. They seem nice enough, although he once caught Jonathan checking him out in the same way Robin had, glancing between Eddie and his own wife with a smirk on his face.
The nerve of these people checking him out, leaving him flushed and spluttering when they aren’t even interested.
Hell, he even got to meet Dustin and Max’s grandparents before meeting their mysterious and elusive dad.
“Munson,” Jim Hopper, Hawkins Chief of Police, the twins’ adopted grandfather, scowled at him. He looked about the same as the last time Eddie had seen him, maybe a few more greys in his mustache and lines around his eyes. Easier to see the fine details when Eddie’s not cuffed in the backseat making faces at him in the rearview mirror.
Jesus Christ, is he lucky Hopper only ever brought him back home to Wayne for dealing instead of throwing him in a jail cell for the weekend. Eddie was twenty the last time the Chief picked him up, almost a decade ago now. He practically tossed Eddie in the backseat, drove them both out to the quarry, sat him down, handed him a beer, and explained in fine detail the differences between being a juvenile delinquent and an actual felon. Needless to say Eddie quit dealing and decided his calling was more educational.
“Oh Hop, leave the poor boy alone.” The small woman next to them playfully back-hands the Chief’s beer belly to get him to back off. “I’m Joyce, the kids’ grandma. And you must be Mr. Munson! We’ve heard so much about you.”
“Nice to meet you, Mrs. Hopper,” he says, unsure of how to navigate this extremely awkward interaction. The Chief’s stern glare hasn’t left Eddie’s face since he stepped out of the car. “I, uhh, wasn’t aware that you had family, Chief?”
The man grunts, but uncrosses his arms, shoving one hand in his front pocket and wrapping the other around his wife. “Steve’s not my son, but I’ve been looking after that boy since I picked him up for his first speeding ticket. Just a few years before the kids, back when he was dating Nancy.”
“Wait, wait, wait a second,” Eddie interrupts, shocked “Nancy, as in Auntie Nancy and Uncle Jonathan?”
“Jonathan’s my boy,” Joyce answers Eddie’s slack-jawed confusion. “Nancy and Jonathan met just after her and Steve broke up, but they’re all still good friends, obviously.”
“Yeah, obviously.” Eddie zones out a bit, trying to connect the dots in the tangled web of Max and Dustin Harrington’s family life. “Wait, wouldn’t that make Steve my age? And if you raised him–” he points to Hopper accusingly– “then that means he went to school here. With me. So why don’t I know him?”
But Hopper’s already shaking his head. “Kid went to the private school two towns over. Parents have an estate on the opposite side of town from Forest Hills, just barely inside my jurisdiction. I’m not surprised you two didn’t cross paths, he was only ever here for sports, which–” he gestures at Eddie’s everything, and yeah, Eddie gets it. But an estate?
This is the most information he’s been able to dig up so far. He looks back to the playground where Chrissy is still trying to rally the twins’ spilled bags. It’s an opportunity Eddie refuses to pass on.
“And the twins?” He turns back and just catches the end of a silent conversation between the couple, eyeing each other while glancing at Eddie. They stop when they notice him watching, and Hop sighs.
“Dustin and Max came around just after his senior year. The kid was set up for a full-ride to Indy on a swim scholarship his dad paid for. The mom was a girl he met at a party, and he didn’t see her again until she dropped them off on his doorstep. Parents kicked him out, then I took them in. Same week I picked you up for the last time,” Hop adds on with a laugh, like this entire conversation is chock full of cosmic coincidence. “What a hell of a week.”
Eddie tumbles the new information in his head over and over throughout the next few days. He feels himself growing bitter that someone like Steve Harrington exists. Someone who sounds too good to be true. Fake, like the many charming princes and noble knights he’s woven into his campaigns over the years. Except it’s hard to deny when it’s not just the kids, and Auntie Robin, Uncle Jonathan and Aunt Nancy, or hell, even the grandparents.
It’s Chrissy. Every time Chrissy gets to talk to Steve, she raves about him until Eddie starts fake gagging just to get her to stop. She typically rolls her eyes, but he’s sick of hearing about how great this guy is and at this point, he’s not even sure if he wants to meet him. No one’s this great.
“Don’t you think it’s weird,” Eddie rants, like he has been for the past ten minutes, “that he can’t even be bothered to pick up his own children? And it’s like you’ve said, Chris, even when he does pick them up he’s always late! What kind of father is that, really?”
He’s halfway through his second margarita, and he’s lost track of the conversation entirely, not sure how they transitioned from Chrissy’s hinge matches to Steve fucking Harrington. Again.
Chrissy frowns at him, and yeah, he might’ve went a bit too far there. Maybe he’s a little sensitive about topics revolving around bad dads.
“Just because you’re hungry doesn’t mean you get to be a dick, Eddie,” she shoots back, pushing the basket of chips closer to him as they wait for their food. “It’s not my fault you decided to switch to detention yesterday and missed him because you were cold. I told you it was going to be chilly out and you still didn’t wear a jacket.”
“I was wearing a jacket, Chris,” he pouts.
“An actual, warm jacket. Not that threadbare, leather monstrosity you got from Goodwill for ten dollars. Just because you cover the holes with patches doesn’t mean the holes aren’t there.”
He lets out an undignified shriek, but she continues on to the actual conversation, used to ignoring his dramatics. “You know it’s not the same as with your dad, or mine. Steve really is a great guy, even if you refuse to admit it. I think you’re just jealous you haven’t met him yet.”
“Of course I want to meet him,” he snaps back, but Chrissy just grins in response. “I have to listen to everyone talk about how great he is, and I’m just supposed to believe it all on face-value? Honestly, I’m sick of hearing about him, and if we keep talking about this it’s gonna ruin my buzz.”
Eddie refuses to believe a former trust-fund kid who hosted parties at his estate just to act like a fuck-boy actually leveled up to become a loving single father who’s adored by his family and friends, saves literal lives every day, and is one of the only queer people in this god forsaken town.
Not that he spends his free time thinking about a random guy he’s gathered enough general information on to build a well-rounded NPC. A disowned nobleman cast out from his kingdom into squalor. With the help of the lonely prince’s new found family, he redeems himself by serving as Hawkins’ most beloved Paladin.
Again, not that he’s actually building this character for next year’s campaign or anything, it just goes to show how much people won’t stop bragging about this guy, and Eddie’s over it.
“You’d really like him,” Chrissy says, putting an end to his stewing. She’s smiling like maybe she knows something he doesn’t, and it reminds him of the same smiles he’s gotten from Robin and Nanna Joyce.
“Yeah, well I’d actually have to meet him to like him.”
~~~
It’s Eddie’s week for Tiger Club and by Thursday he still hasn’t seen Steve once. It’s been Robin every day so far, but she promised yesterday that he’d be doing pick ups today and tomorrow. Eddie hadn’t really believed her after so many previous missed connections, but when the kids ran out to the playground screaming about Dad bringing them for ice cream after school, he thinks maybe he should’ve taken her seriously.
Because now here he is, fiddling with the sleeves of his leather jacket and smoothing a hand over his flyaways like he’s about to meet the goddamned Pope. He’s not nervous– he’s not. It’s just some guy– nay, an ex-trust fund kid. Sure he sounds amazing on paper, but Eddie’ll decide that for himself.
“So is he here yet?” Jumping out of his skin, he turns to find Chrissy smirking at him. He checks his watch and sure enough, it’s 3:45, and Max and Dustin are the last kids on the playground. God, he really should’ve noticed all of the other kids leaving. “Eddie, you seem nervous,” she says, giggling as he scoffs at her implication.
He is not nervous.
“What would I have to be nervous about?” He almost shouts it, gesturing wildly with his hands. “I don’t even know the guy. I just know he’s late. Again!”
Chris nods toward him, eyeing something over his shoulder and he turns in time to see a familiar maroon SUV pull up to the curb. But the man stepping out onto the sidewalk definitely isn’t Robin.
No, he’s just the prettiest man Eddie’s ever been lucky enough to set his gaze on.
He’s wearing tight, acid washed jeans and a navy henley that’s holding on for dear life across his broad chest. The aviator sunglasses should really make him look like a stereotypical douchebag, but of course it just makes him look hot, accentuating his full, pouty, pink lips. His thick, chestnut hair is feathered to appear casual. Even from across the playground it looks soft, and Eddie’s desperate to touch, to hold and pull tight.
The fucking guy is effortlessly cool, and Eddie hates that cool ex-jock is a look that’s apparently his type.
The man scans the playground, a wide grin brightens his face when he catches sight of the twins. Eddie watches as the literal fallen angel pushes his fingers into his mouth– sending Eddie’s thoughts careening dangerously off course– and whistles loud enough that Dustin and Max pop up like adorable groundhogs.
“Daddy!” Max yells, jumping up and running full speed towards him with Dustin hot on her heels.
Daddy? Eddie’s never heard either of the twins call him that– it’s always been Dad. Although Eddie’s also pretty sure he’s never seen Max this excited before.
Steve drops to his knees– Eddie’s jaw hits the ground at the same time– to catch his kids as they send him toppling over. The three are a pile of limbs and smiles, and it’s melting Eddie’s cold, grinch heart.
Chrissy nudges him. He can tell she’s already reading him like an open book, the same way he had when she’d first laid eyes on Robin. Instead of teasing, her smile is full of comfort and encouragement. She lightly tugs his arm, pulling his frozen legs behind her towards the chaos. As the kids disentangle themselves, he can hear them excitedly talking over one another.
“No, Daddy listen, Lucas told the funniest joke at recess–”
“Max, oh my god, no one cares! I literally made a volcano in science–”
“Shut up, Dustin, no one cares about your stupid science volcano!”
“Hey!” Steve’s up on his feet clapping loudly to get the kids’ attention. “Language, Max. How many times do I have to tell you that Dustin’s science stuff isn’t stupid? And Dustin, don’t interrupt your sister when she’s talking. Just because you’re louder doesn’t mean you get to talk over her. Both of you apologize. Now.”
The kids look equally cowed, and mutter their apologies before turning back to their dad with their proverbial tails between their legs.
“And?” he prompts.
“Sorry for arguing, Dad,” they answer in unison.
“Good. Now, let’s go find Miss Chr–”
The end of Steve’s sentence is lost to the autumn wind as he catches Eddie’s eye. He watches as Steve slowly pushes his sunglasses up onto his head and jesus christ those are the warmest honey hazel eyes Eddie’s ever seen. Steve’s mouth has dropped open, drawing Eddie’s gaze to his plush lips.
Up close, Eddie can pick out the golden shine to his hair and the moles scattered across his skin. Two on the man’s neck hold his attention, filling Eddie with the strong urge to bite. Steve pushes up his sleeves to reveal toned forearms. His hands are large with long fingers and Eddie needs them wrapped around him.
“Daddy, what are you looking at?”
Both men jolt at the sound of Max’s voice. A heavy blush coats Steve’s face, and Eddie wants to explore where else the man turns red and wanting. Mouth suddenly dry, he darts his tongue out to wet his lips, only for Steve’s gaze to immediately track the movement.
“Daddy, oh my god why are you being so weird!”
Steve tears his eyes from Eddie’s mouth, briefly turning to face Max again.
“I’m not being weird. You just haven’t introduced me to your teacher yet.”
“Oh, right I’m so sorry,” Chrissy steps forward, not sounding sorry at all. “This is–”
“Mr. Munson, right?” Steve says. “And I’m–”
“Daddy,” Eddie finishes.
It’s quiet. Too quiet, and Eddie realizes everyone is staring at him. Steve’s eyes are wide, mouth open in shock. He’s flushing red down his neck and up to the tips of his ears, but his eyes never leave Eddie’s.
“Did you just call our Dad, Daddy?” Max asks, pointing and laughing.
And oh.
Oh god no.
He called him Daddy to his face in front of his children, and the universe, and everyone. A beautiful, gorgeous, perfect specimen of a man he’s never met before, and he called him Daddy like Eddie was cursed in a past life to make a total ass of himself. He’s on the verge of melting into the ground when Dustin’s shrill voice cuts through the fog to come to his aid.
“Don’t worry, Mr. Munson. Last week I accidentally called Mrs. Click, Mom, but it was an accident,” the boy reasons. “It happens to everyone, it’s okay.”
Except it’s very much not okay, and Eddie thinks nothing will be okay ever again.
He chances a look and sees Steve’s finally closed his mouth, though he’s chewing on his bottom lip and still blushed up to his ears. Eddie can only imagine how red his own face is.
“Well,” Chrissy clears her throat– loudly. “Eddie, this is Steve. And Steve, this is Mr. Munson, but you can call him Eddie.” She looks a little too pleased with herself, but Eddie doesn’t know whether to thank her or remember this for next time Robin comes around.
“Hi,” Steve says, dazed, absently reaching out for a handshake because of course Steve’s the kind of man to shake a guy’s hand who’s just accidentally called him Daddy. The nerve of some people.
“Umm, hi,” Eddie responds while he grabs Steve’s hand. It’s not a firm handshake between two people meeting for the first time. It’s gentle, Steve practically cradling Eddie’s hand in his and he was right. Steve’s hand is bigger, softer than his own, but Eddie’s fingers are thicker.
Over far too soon– but maybe too long if Chrissy’s scrunched expression is anything to go by– Steve lets go. Eddie’s forced to stand and watch Steve flex his fingers, stretching until they’re white, before balling them into a fist and shoving his hand into his back pocket. His other hand rakes through his auburn hair, and– for absolutely no reason whatsoever– Eddie considers including a Jane Austin unit next semester for his eighth graders.
“I’ve heard a lot about you from the kids. And Robin. Oh and Jonathan and Joyce,” Steve rambles. If Eddie didn’t know better, he’d say the man sounds flustered. It helps him relax a bit.
“All good things?” Eddie teases, twirling a strand of hair between his fingers before pulling it in front of his face.
“Yeah, they just failed to mention,” Steve gestures vaguely to all of Eddie, much the same way as Hopper had but also very, very different. He looks down at himself to make sure he didn’t wear anything especially heinous today, but all he finds are his typical combat boots, black jeans, and his gray t-shirt underneath his leather jacket.
He steps a little closer to Eddie, putting them within middle school slow-dancing distance from each other. Eddie can’t look away from his eyes, warm and golden, just like everything else about him.
“Kids,” Chrissy cuts in, “why don’t we go get your stuff together while your Daddy talks with Mr. Munson a bit?” Eddie could kiss her for being such a saint, and the three of them wander off while Eddie remains a captive to the intensity crawling around in Steve’s stare.
“So,” Steve sighs, voice low and smooth. Chills spread down Eddie’s spine, and he knows he’s done for. “Daddy, huh?”
Heat scorches Eddie’s face as white hot embarrassment spreads to his core. Steve smiles like he’s successfully cornered his prey, and Eddie can’t figure out what to do with his hands. He stands frozen as Steve takes another step forward, now toe to toe.
“Yeah,” Eddie drags the word out, not quite sure of what he’s agreeing to. He’s only sure of Steve’s breath mixing with his and Steve’s eyes roaming his face and Steve’s everything.
He clears his throat, smoothes his clammy hands over his jeans, and tries again.
“Yeah, I’m sorry about that.” He chuckles, hoping to play it off as casual. “It really was just an accident like Dustin was saying, you know? An awkward slip of the tongue. See, the thing is that Max was calling you Daddy, right? Which is totally weird because she always calls you Dad. So I was just kind of surprised and confused and I couldn’t stop thinking about you– I mean Daddy! The word Daddy, not you as a Daddy.” Eddie groans scrubbing his hands over his face, hiding behind his fingers. “Fuck, god, I’m so sorry, this is so unprof–”
“I don’t think you’re sorry,” Steve interrupts. “In fact, I think you liked it. And if I had to guess, I think you want to do it again.”
This isn’t happening. This is not real life.
Things like this don’t just happen to people like him, to the Eddie Munson’s of the world, and certainly not with men like the golden god leaning into his space. Except here he finds himself, trapped in a real-life porn intro with a man he’s never met yet has been crushing on for over a month. The tightness of Eddie’s black skinny jeans is becoming an increasing problem and he reminds himself this is a school and there are children here.
Before he can recover enough to save himself, Steve’s cooing at him, pulling at the edge of his leather sleeves and asking “would you like to do it again?”
Eddie nods, dumbstruck and inappropriately turned on.
“Good,” Steve praises, saccharine, “all you have to do is ask for my number and I’ll give it to you.”
Eddie looks around the playground and sees Chrissy with the kids well on the opposite side. They’re playing on the swingset, thoroughly distracted.
“I know they’re there. It’s okay, they can’t hear us,” Steve says and grabs Eddie’s hand. He tangles their fingers together, goosebumps shiver up Eddie’s arm. “Now, ask me.”
“Umm, can I have your number?” he mumbles.
Steve shakes his head and gives Eddie's hand a firm squeeze. “No Eddie, you need to ask nicely. Go on now, I won’t say it again.”
Eddie swallows against the dryness in his mouth and Steve’s darkened eyes flit down to catch his neck flex around his empty throat.
“Please, Daddy, may I have your number?” Delicious shame coils through his chest while heat curls lower in his core. He’s not used to such brazen affection, nor so immediately trusting to reciprocate. And fuck, normally Eddie’s the Daddy. But from everything he’s heard– all of the kind and caring people who talk about how amazing Steve is– he thinks this might be okay. Hopes and wants and craves it all to be okay.
Steve’s answering smile is surprisingly gentle. He rubs his thumb against the back of Eddie’s knuckles before taking a step back, not far enough to leave him self-conscious, but Eddie feels like he can breathe for the first time since Steve stepped out of the car.
“Of course you can have my number, Baby, thank you for asking so nicely.”
Eddie unlocks his phone and hands it over just as Chris makes her way back with the kids. They all say their goodbyes, and much to Eddie’s delight, Steve texts him before the SUV even pulls away from the curb. To top it off, Steve waves as they drive by, a dorky spirit-finger wave that sends Eddie into a fit of giggles, like he’s a school boy with his first crush.
Chris elbows him in the side, a smirk on her face and her eyebrow arched.
Eddie sighs in faux-defeat. “He’s alright, I guess,” he answers her unasked question with a giant, smitten, shit-eating grin plastered on his face.
He loves the twins, has met basically Steve’s entire family, and is almost positive Chris and Robin have hit it off. Eddie’s hopes are already too high up to pull back down to earth, excited to see where this journey will take him. He’s loath to admit it after weeks of petulant moping and pining, but Steve Harrington does, in fact, live up to the hype.
a rough timeline of the modern!morbell au
where they're in college and micah is also a youtuber who gets cancelled a lot, with a plot of being illegal lawyers. this is just a pre-tl to the actual college meeting, if that makes sense. might make other parts
Granddaddy Bell had connections to shady people with even shadier and illegal activities. He created Bell Inc., a law firm that would later grow into a powerhouse in its own right, as a cover up to do his shady business. He'd raise Daddy Bell to be his successor, and would instill his teachings into Jr., and pass down his years of crimes to his son. Later on, after his passing, Micah Bell Jr. would become the CEO of Bell Inc.
Around the time a then young Bell Jr. would take control of the firm, a few other firms popped up. In a similar fashion that Granddaddy Bell had taken, these firms would only open up to be a cover up for, again, shady business. Among these businesses would rise two household names: Van der Linde Ent. and O'Driscoll Corp. Both companies were once business partners, but after a case gone wrong, they ended up parting on bad terms, sparking a rivalry that would, behind doors, more often than not end in bloodshed.
A couple years down the line, Van der Linde founder and co-founder, Dutch Van der Linde and Hosea Matthews, would adopt a young boy by the name of Arthur Morgan, who would retain his last name. While Hosea clearly wanted to adopt a son for the sake of having a son, Dutch figured it'd be good for the business. He did, however, end up loving Arthur like a son. So much so that they ended up adopting another boy a couple years later, followed by their last child and only daughter; John Marston and Tilly Jackson, respectively. The age in which all three kids are adopted will be left up to interpretation, though it can be established that they were all above six years old.
During all of the Van der Linde-Matthews family growth, Micah Bell Jr. is raising his sons, Micah Bell III and Amos Bell, by himself, with the help of various nannies and maids, because, well, they come from old money. Surprisingly, despite his apparent darker and nihilistic views on life, Daddy Bell isn't a terrible father. Sure, he's strict and expects only the best from his sons, but which parent doesn't? No, Daddy Bell does try to be a good dad, and does try to raise his sons to be the best versions of themselves, and truly does love them.
Both set of parents, VDL-Matthews and Bell respectively, each try to instill similar teachings to their children. Both want their children to be lawyers so they can take over the firms, both want their children to know the way of crime and criminals, and both want their children to be the best versions of themselves.
It's around Micah Bell III's 14 years of being alive that does he begin to rebel. He becomes more argumentative and abrasive, he spends his allowance on the newest games and begins to skip classes to spend his time elsewhere. It's around this time that he uploads his first video, a ragebait of all topics, to YouTube, marking the beginning of a troll.
Timeskip to a couple years forward, Micah finds himself in college of all places. He has a decent following online, mostly of other people who either love him for his humor or hate him. He skips going to CC and jumps straight to university because, hello, he has the money, and though he doesn't want to be there at all, he studies pre-law, or something like that. Contrary to popular belief, he is rather intelligent, and having been raised by a lawyer of a father who read him law books to sleep, he has a good grasp on it.
A couple years later, Arthur Morgan enters the scene. Much like Micah, Arthur doesn't find his passion in law. But unlike Micah, Arthur's dads are understanding and support his aspiration to study art (or something similar.) Which is how Arthur finds himself at the same college as Micah, and how this AU came to be.
Ok. So, i read some more Wuthering Heights today and this one paragraph really struck me- like it got to me just as much as lines like ‘whatever our souls are made of his and mine are the same’. But I don’t think this part is probably talked about as much, because its about 2 of the supporting characters and its not a poetic romance quote.
I’m talking about this paragraph, where Nelly Dean is walking outside and is reminded of her childhood:
“all at once a gush of child's sensations flowed into my heart. Hindley and I held it a favourite spot twenty years before. I gazed long at the weather-worn block; and, stooping down, perceived a hole near the bottom still full of snail-shells and pebbles, which we were fond of storing there with more perishable things; and, as fresh as reality, it appeared that I beheld my early playmate seated on the withered turf: his dark, square head bent forward, and his little hand scooping out the earth with a piece of slate. 'Poor Hindley!' I exclaimed, involuntarily.”
The reason this got to me so much is that this is exactly the way I’d been thinking about Heathcliff. ‘Sure, heathcliff’s a jerk!’ I’d think to myself, ‘but in the earlier chapters when he was a kid he was so cute and loved cathy so much! He was so unfairly treated!! He had moments where he laughed and played!!’ Not that i excused Heathcliff’s wrongful actions, but i sympathized with him, just a bit. Deep down i want him and cathy to have a happy ending, even though they’ve hurt and will hurt so many people.
(somehow, having many of heathcliff’s future actions spoiled for me by reading through the WH tag so often has not made the book any less enjoyable to me. This book is that good.)
Hindley, however….Up until this point I had always seen him as nothing more than a monster. We see very little of his childhood. We see him cry about his toy being broken, and then later we see him being racist towards-and then physically abusing- Heathcliff. After that, he’s a young adult/adult and is just consistently even worse to Heathcliff (and everyone else at Wuthering Heights) than he was before.
Nelly, unlike the readers, saw hindley’s whole childhood. She saw the moments when he was good, when he smiled and laughed. She saw ways that he was treated unfairly (his own father liking this new adopted son better than him and not hiding that bias at all).
Does this make hindley suddenly a good person? Of course not! But it really put into perspective for me how similar heathcliff and hindley are, and how i was biased way more towards one because I had seen his good side. Heathcliff and hindley are both incredibly violent, grumpy, abusive people who crave money and power. I’m sure I’ll continue to find similarities as I read more.
My three main takeaways from this paragraph are:
1) i think that hindley not only serves as a catalyst for heathcliff becoming a bad person, but also as heathcliff’s narrative foil. (Wikipedia says: ‘A foil usually either differs dramatically or is an extreme comparison that is made to contrast a difference between two things.’ I think this is a perfect description of how heathcliff and hindley work in the narrative- hindley is perhaps how we would view heathcliff if we hadn’t seen his childhood.)
2) i think this paragraph serves to remind the reader that everyone is a human who has at one point been innocent, and that this fact doesn’t excuse bad behavior, and that you should be careful about sympathizing with heathcliff so much that you begin to excuse his actions. I also think the fact that this paragraph comes so soon before isabella’s letter to nelly is incredibly important and intentional. That letter she writes about arriving at wuthering heights really highlights how bad of a person heathcliff is.
3) i am now slightly sympathetic towards hindley, and view him as a bit more of a complicated character than i took him for previously. I am also now a bit more conscious and critical of my sympathetic reading of Heathcliff up until this point.
All this being said- heathcliff is still (for lack of a better term) one of my blorbos. I am obsessed with his stupid edgy personality and his sarcastic comments and his over the top evil plans. I am ESPECIALLY obsessed with his relationship with cathy. I know it wouldn’t actually be romantic in real life but, man. I could write a whole ‘nother post about how much i love their relationship. I want to put him in a microwave and watch him spin around. the former-AP-english-student in me is aware that he is a terrible person but the silly drama-loving side of me cant help but just find all of his terrible actions sort of equal parts funny and badass (i feel like this will stay true even as he does some of the more horrifying things i’ve heard about later). silly side of me wants him and cathy to do whatever evil things they want and ride off into the sunset laughing maniacally together.
(JEEZ i did not think i would spend an hour writing like a full essay when i started this post. this is what adhd does to you, folks.)
1. Does anybody know the name or have a copy of this fanfic where I believe lwj is a Lord and he has 5 wives. I believe wwx was the 2nd wife and lwj didn't really notice him until one day he saw him playing with the other wives children. And I think one of the wives either the 1st or 3rd tried to kill him for favor. @teamironman98
2. hello! I’m looking for a certain wangxian fic that crosses over with the tgcf world i think? Anyways it’s an au where wei ying is a former prince turned calamity and lan wangji is continuously reincarnating but a piece of his soul isn’t with him. I think there was a saying in the fic that goes “If you see a path of spiderlilies you’ll meet someone again.”
Anyways thank you for your time!
3. Hello, I'm trying to find a fix where WWX was raised by a family of prostitutes that eventually free themselves of their contract and made a living teaching their arts. One of them married a rogue cultivator that makes jewelry and taught it to WWX. Eventually he meets LWJ and they get together relatively quick. WWX never gets that much involved with the Jiang Sect other than saving it during the war and JC loses his core and never got involved in the war. @justscribblingnonsense
5. Hi! I'm hoping someone can help, please! I'm looking for a fic like The Yu Temper by madwriter223, where shortly after WWX frees the Wens from Qiongqi Path, JC decides instead to hell with it, flips, and promptly decides to start aggressively supporting WWX instead, along the lines of 'who are you to tell me what to do?!', resulting in the Wens being rehomed in Lotus Pier. This particular fic has JC swearing every sentence, even in his head, and potentially endgame Wangxian and Chenqing. I can't remember much more than that, I'm afraid but I'd be happy to receive any similar recs if you would rather make this a ITMF request instead! @katonahottinroof
Might be one of snowberryrose's 🤔
6. Hello - I’m trying to find a fic on the archive where Lan Zhan has full memories as a child and leaves cloud recesses and takes his mother with him. Then succeeds at finding Wei ying as a street child.
7. Hello! I’m hoping you can help me find this fic. I remember so much about it apart from the name and tore through my bookmarks with no luck. It was a modern AU where WWX was a celebrity of some sort (idol/actor) and LWJ was a pet store owner. The two end up crossing paths and end up falling in love. I vividly remember the two of them going out with A-Yuan & being swamped by paparazzi and another scene where WWX is at a modeling shoot and LWJ steps in to help. I think it came out around 2021-ish? @heedoyurims
FOUND? I think number 7 is off-key by geragrena, which I am perpetually sad that I never downloaded a copy of before it was hidden.
8. Hello! Please help me find a fic/tell me if you remember it and it was deleted or something 🙏 My search through ao3 bookmarks and tags was unfortunate but the work was really interesting and I sudeenly remembered it some days ago and can't calm down still. Thank you!!
Possible but maybe not really used tags: arranged marriage, misunderstandings, political intrigues
As far as I remember, there was an arranged marriage between wwx and Iwj, but on the next day/a week after the wedding Iwj goes to see wen qing, which makes wwx miserable and yzy mad because of his "incompetence" as a spouse. Then there was a discussion between sect leaders, including wrh, where wrh announced that wq will become Iwj's concubine and their children will be considered Iwj's and wwx's. Wwx accepts the terms, but is shocked, mad and heartbroken beecause he concludes that it was planned in advance and Iwj is in love with wq. He does not try to listen to lwj, warns him not to touch him and runs away to a cottage in yiling (maybe? And maybe owned by jc or jyl) where he usually resides when mdm yu gets mad at him and kicks him out of the main sect territory
He takes in some homeless kids, including xy, as his little students?/adoptees? and i think mm is his servant, and he chills with them and makes talismans for common people maybe, remaking his reputation which suffered after the marriage fiasco. There was also a ghost of a woman who was in the house and was looking at wwx silently but in a very sad way (maybe possibly it could be madam lan or just undisclosed ghost lady)
There was a scene when wq comes to visit him. She has a lan ribbon on her arm which makes wwx heartbroken again. She somehow explains without apologising that everything is not as it seems and that it had to be done to save her family. It all makes wwx feel like he was outcasted by everyone in the knowledge of the situation for no real reason and with no care for his own reputation and life. Also I think mm who previously thought that she and wq were maybe friends says after the talk that it seems like they are not really friends because wq seems to treat her not as an equal but as a friendly servant instead
Then something something with wc and I remember a scene in a cave where wx and Iwj are trapped and somehow kiss, and then Iwj is like pulling himself away and mentioning wq, which makes wwx miserable because there is possibly a soulmate thingy? btw them and he feels awful
And then i remember jzx, who is maybe friends with Iwj, being mad at wwx for something and asking if he knew what Iwj did for him and wwx has absolutely no idea
The latest chapters I remember included some nsfw, more angst and misunderstandings, and possibly Iwj blaming wwx for pretending to ignore/knowingly hiding the fact that they are soulmates and wwx being scared that his kids will be taken away from him and given to the lans. And there was a heavy sence that there are lots of things happening wwx has no idea about, including (possibly) lwj's letters to him
Thank you for your work!! @shellennium
FOUND! No. 8 sounds like A Price to Pay by Wangxianist but it was deleted.
10. hihi! I had wanted to rec this for #1 on the previous itmf (March 25th) but I realized I never saved it to my read list so I can't find it anymore!! 😭 it was a 3zun fic where I'm pretty sure jgy was forced by jgs into marrying warlord nmj. the rest of the world believed that the nies, esp nmj, are barbarians and super evil. so when jgy gets sent to the nies, he's mentally preparing himself to be raped or killed by nmj, but turns out nmj is super nice! and when jgy meets lxc (who is already married to nmj), lxc is really kind to him. and slowly jgy opens up to both of them and I think at one point they all go on a picnic date at a mountain? and later they get attacked while they're riding on horseback? honestly it's been so long I'm having trouble remembering the details skdjskd. also btw even though the plot sounds somewhat similar to the nielan fic soaring, carried aloft on the wind, that's not the one! this one was definitely 3zun and also from jgy's pov. hopefully someone knows the one I'm talking about!😭 @cryiling
FOUND! Perhaps Plural by AlfAlfAlfAlfAlf and tardigradeschool (E, 77k, 3zun, historical, arranged marriage, established nielan, developing 3zun, romantic comedy, angst w happy ending, hurt/comfort, pining, slow burn, misunderstandings, smut)
11. I'm looking for a fic where wwx died during some point in the burial mounds and became a god of death or something similar. In one part he figured out or was taught how to take a female form. He could visit people in their dreams as well. I swear I had it bookmarked, but can't find it. Thanks!
12. hi! this my first time sending an ask to this blog so I'm a little unsure if I'm doing this correctly but I'm trying to find this fic where JC noticed an older disciple acting weird/inappropriate with WWX at Lotus Pier when they were kids so JC informs JFM and JFM gets super angry and kicks the older disciple out of the sect or something along those lines. I can't remember if JC had travelled back in time and that's why they were kids again or if it was just JC remembering something from his childhood. I unfortunately don't remember anything else about the plot 😔
thank you for your time! 🧡
14. Hey there! I’m having trouble finding this one specific fic. It is wangxian. Wei Ying sent Lán Wangji his drawing of a field of white bunnies (and I belief his donkey was in the picture as well?) and a letter. This was the last thing he sent to Lán Wangji before he disappeared. I remember Sizhui being with Lan Wangji and other junior disciples in the search for Wei Wuxian. Cut to them finding the white bunny field, they still don’t find him. As they return to Cloud Recesses, it turns out that Lan Sizhui took a bunny from that field. Specifically a non white bunny. That is all I can remember… thank you for the help!
15. Hello! I'm looking for a fic that I'd seen in a recent ITMF list but couldn't find it again. It was about lwj dealing with the aftermath of wwx's death and the discipline whip. Canon-compliant, and I believe it was an entire series of one-shots where the first fic focused of lwj and I believe the second one was about lsz
Hello! I'm #15 on the lastest fic finder. I'm afraid that's not the work I was looking for. The one I wanted wasn't a locked piece and I believe it dealt mainly with "chronic grief", but thank you for your efforts :)
16. Hello, for fic finder I want to find a short story set post canon where Wei Wuxian is transformed into a cat and keeps Jin Ling company, I vaguely remember a scene where Wei Wuxian in cat form bapped Fairy on the nose with his paw and stared in wonder at his paws possibly realising he had claws or in wonder that he touched a dog without running away screaming. I think he later figured out how to transform into his cat form at will to nap in sunbeams. Finding this story has been driving me nuts any help is greatly appreciated. @sorathemasterofmasters
17. Hello, I recently remember this fic that ive read months ago and im not sure if i remember it correctly, i cant find it anymore so i hope u guys can help me with this.
- its a modern fic. wei ying is sick then he lives with the lans. i remember him going to the same school(?) with lan zhan. i think lqr told lz to take care of him smth like that. then there's a girl that is also sick(?) there's a scene where wy asked lz to stay with him but then lz left and chose the other girl (lz didnt know that wx is sick and he was like the girl needs me more than u) there's a confession on a radio station(?) then when lz found out that wy is sick he ran back to him. there's also jiang-wen family connections. wy is cousins to the jiangs and has a connection with wens, im not sure if rouhan is his grandfather or uncle or smth. then they found out there's a scene where madam yu slapped the girl because of what she did (hurt wy) and they cut off ties (business/job) with their family
im not sure if im talking about one story or two.
For #17 I'm sure I've read the fic but it was when I was early into fandom and new to AO3. Also the girl is engaged to LWJ or something. WWX already is in love with LWJ, but he's sick and gonna die in a year
~*~
18. hi, can u guys help me to find this: lwj is a doctor, lxc and nmj are i think cops(?) detectives(?) smth like that then wwx is a fox. they rescued wwx from the basement where someone cuts off his fox tails to sell. he was badly treated. lwj is his doctor and wwx somewhat attached to lwj. wwx also has a doll(?) or smth named wen qing. he's very protective of it. lwj is the one taking care of him. its not yet completed when i first read it.
19. I’m looking for a wangxian modern with cultivation fic where WWX was kicked out of yunmeng for something that Jiang Cheng did. He wound up having most of his golden core removed but was able to recultivate one. Cultivators had to wear body cams when on assignment, and someone hacked into the files and released the film of what actually happened during the night hunt that WWX got kicked out for.
I didn’t actually read it, I saw the summary and tags and planned to go back and read it later…and now I can’t find it. 90% sure it was complete and it’s on Ao3.
Thanks for the help! @worthlessnepenthes
FOUND! Hey hey I'm almost certain 19 of the very recent fic finder is Truth Will Out (when caught on video) by KizuKatana (E, 25k, wangxian, WN & WWX & WQ, modern cultivation, YZY abuses WWX, caught in camera, partial core removal, WWX expelled from Jiang sect, live streamer WWX, meet-ugly, dual cultivation, WIP) I was literally just reading the new chapter right before this. It's still a WIP.
~*~
20. Hiya! I was wondering if you could help me find a fic where wwx tried to commit suicide and jc finds him in the bathtub and it's kinda about him recuperating, and lwj helps take care of him? Its a modern au and wwx initially lives with jc and jyl. I'm pretty sure I've seen it here, but I can't for the life of me remember the name. Thanks for your help!
BLOOMIC CANON
xyx romance and toasty friendship
doesn’t work in finance but does still work unhinged shifts as a lab tech
the webnovel is a little more horror-themed but still a fantasy with the same core idea of personal transformation and they have many opinions about vampires and the series’ romances
the censor issues still get resolved by the power of friendship - they meet xyx in person a few months later and he’s saved as Baby (Insufferable) 🖤 in their phone
they go on semifrequent vacations with xyx when they can to make up for the long distance, usually xyx traveling to them most often since it’s easiest, but their favorites are visiting new places for new experiences together, and they eventually decide to move in together after a couple years
it takes both of them some time to work up to marriage but they go for it after living together for a while
toasty is bestie status but quest and biglady are their next closest friends in the server
plays ffxiv with toasty and xyx but very casually, their wol is an au ra black mage, and Juicy Gamers is their group’s linkshell name too
they eventually introduce their twin to biglady and the pair hit it off. let’s go lesbians
#ik nobody cares about this but me but it’s fine i’m gleefully rooting around the bin like a raccoon rn#dani.txt#oc: river lovell#river/xyx
14, 17, and 18 for Zutara asks please!
Hello there, kind stranger!! Thanks for submitting!
(This was a lengthy response so I apologize in advance)
14. How do you feel about “The Southern Raiders”?
- So many intense feelings, that’s for sure haha. That episode is just one of my favorites from the show overall, and not just because of the obvious showcasing of how good Zuko and Katara work together as a pair (though it does play a major part), or them finally having that moment of reconciliation after what happened in the catacombs, but mainly because of the highlighting of Katara’s internal battle over coming to terms with deep seated grief caused by the traumatic loss of her mother. Obvi, that loss is a big part of her character, considering it’s consistently referenced throughout the show but in ‘The Southern Raiders,’ we finally get to see and hear from Katara first hand about that awful day. The episode gives her the room to rage - to feel her and express those dark, ugly feelings - and delve into just how she’s been baring the pain of being the reason why Kya is no longer with them (them - referring to Sokka/Hakoda/Herself). It’s messy and cathartic and just great writing all around on the very real topic of how consuming grief can be; of how you can end up hurting others, be it purposefully or inadvertently, while navigating through it. With that, there’s also the flip side of being able to eventually find peace with the help of someone who truly understands that pain you’re carrying. That with the right person, that load can be lightened until it doesn’t feel as heavy anymore.
17. How do you think Iroh and Hakoda would react to Zutara?
- Iroh is zutara’s #1 cheerleader aside from Toph and Suki, and that’s just facts. There would be fireworks, music, and endless rounds of tea and food in celebration over the news. That sweet old man would be overjoyed at his nephew/adopted son having found someone who pushes and makes him into a better person and vice versa. Not to mention the endless supply of dad jokes, like come on. DAD JOKES.
- I feel like Hakoda - as easy going as the guy is - would be a little skeptical about zutara at first. Not just from general fatherly concern, but because of the stories Sokka and Katara more than likely filled him in on regarding Zuko during the aftermath of the battle in the crystal catacombs. He eventually comes around though, especially with the added help of getting broken out of prison by his son and the aforementioned ‘Prince of all jerkbenders’ and then later hearing about how the kid put his own life on the line to save his daughter from certain death. Needless to say, Hakoda cashes in on his own set of dad jokes later on at their expense alongside Iroh because seeing Zuko and Katara’s slightly mortified but amused expressions are absolutely worth it.
18. How do you think the Gaang would react to Zutara?
- Toph: this girl would be absolutely unsurprised. She’s the first one to find out and tell them straight up that it “took you guys long enough to figure it out” cuz she’s a walking, talking lie detector and those heartbeats never lie. She clocked them from the get go and takes every opportunity to tease them over it because how is it that the literal blind girl could ‘see’ they clearly liked each other but these two dunces couldn’t. (Deep down they know it’s her way of saying she’s happy for them without sounding too sappy about it).
- Suki: would absolutely be the second one to figure it out and is immediately onboard with it because who doesn’t love a good enemies to friends to lovers storyline. (One of us, one of us) She obviously teams up with Toph in teasing the hell out of them whenever the opportunity arises and the two end up bonding over how equally dense their friends were to the blatantly obvious fact that they’re so into each other. It’s borderline comical, really.
- Side note: In my head, Suki, Toph, and Iroh are the official but unofficial zutara council who get together every so often and gossip about whatever new updates on their favorite couple they may have over tea and cakes. It’s a grand old time for all of them and they all would absolutely lose it when Zuko finally proposes to Katara.
- Sokka: Ah my over dramatic water tribe boy. His reaction is just a thing of beauty, really. He would basically go through the five stages of grief because first off, that’s his little sister and second, that’s his best friend and third, what do you mean they’re together now???!! (I picture it to be like a Ross from ‘Friends’ type of reaction, specifically when he finds out about Monica and Chandler) It’s only made worse when Suki and Toph just say ‘called it’ and continue on like this isn’t the most earth shattering news to ever be released. After he’s processed it though, he’s 100% on board and later joins in on the zutara council meetings with Suki/Toph/Iroh.
- Aang: Oooh, our little flighty boy. This one was a tough one to settle on, let me tell you, buuut I think I figured it out. In my head, I think that Aang would obviously hurt for a little while over the news because Katara is his special person. This girl literally saved his life more than once, has seen him grow up, has supported him through so much, and seeing that person you so deeply love end up with someone else isn’t easy. Never is. He would more than likely keep his distance while he works through his feelings. But then one day, he starts really paying attention to how they interact with each other and Aang feels something in his brain click. Zuko understands Katara, and I mean truly understands her. He thought he understood Katara, that’s why he knew in his heart that he loved her, but seeing the two of them together makes him realize that maybe he doesn’t. His perception of her - her wants and needs - are vastly different from his and that’s probably why nothing ever truly developed between them. Sure there was maybe a spark or two but never anything big enough for a full on flame to burn, ya know. And that realization is what eventually pushes him to be in full, genuine support of their relationship. Because how could he deny her that deep understanding that Zuko is more than capable of providing? (To end on a happy note, he later joins the weekly zutara council meetings and full out cries happy tears when Zuko finally proposes to Katara because oh my god two of his favorite people love each other so much and they’re making it official.) Now keep in mind, this is how I think his reaction would be once he’s had some time to grow and actually understand (and I mean understand) that Katara is her own person and doesn’t belong to him (she’s not an object that someone can simply say is theirs).
This was so long oh my goodness but what a fun set of questions!!! Really got my brain’s gears working overtime to think up of some eloquent-esque answers for each of them 😊💗
Characterization Across AUs: Damien Guerrero
Rejects his past actions that hurt a certain boy. It's usually Shizuke but really, it tends to land on someone he can compare to his younger brother.
He used to be on a massive ego trip fuelled by his parents, which is almost always later cut down by Fiona kicking his ass.
Had sort of a crush on Fiona. It's fuelled by elitism more than anything.
His younger brother Dylan is his morality pet. Hurting him is a catalyst for Damien to change for the better.
His family values strength and power above all else... but Dylan is nothing like that so Damien is protective of him. Sadly, he will fail in some way and Dylan comes back scary strong and fights him for a bit until he calms down. Or just argues with Damien in AUs that don't give him powers.
Zephyr looks up to him and wishes to have a brother like him.
Natalia is his best friend because she is so accepting of him.
Forced to work with Keagan against his will. They rarely start out trusting each other.
Wary of the twins, they scream sus to him. Especially the one rizzing his boy crazy best friend. Blake fears him.
He tends to lose someone in a way then someone else comes along to kinda fill the void they left. Those two people eventually meet and they don't get along. It's kinda Damien's fault, he sucks at communication.
His battle gear has the most armor among the main group, sans Shizuke. He's the true tank of the team.
It's more of a mythology gag, but he, Shizuke and Haruji tends to use similar powers at some point. They are all rather tanky melee fighters.
Somehow, Haruji will serve as his mentor and Shizuke as his sparring partner. Shizuke will kick his ass because that guy has been practicing for years to specifically kick Damien's ass.
Just as he and Natalia are finally gaining levels in badass, Shizuke will kick him down. Also, neither stood a chance against Fiona when she was brainwashed and crazy.
While it's not always important, his relationship with the Ryders and the Hales is more or less the same. They're his found family who pseudo adopted him or are always welcoming towards him for his close bond with one of their kids.
He'll end up leaving his well-off family for a less toxic environment and live a more modest life style after the main story.
He will eventually gain Fiona and Shizuke's grudging respect. Emphasis on grudging. While Keagan tends to be the first he befriends from this childhood friends trio.
He's a quiet guy full of regrets. He sees his past self as an arrogant boy and hates himself for it. It'll haunt him.
He's good at keeping kids in line. Most notably, Zephyr Ryder. He and Natalia make the ultimate babysitter team.
Just as Keagan, Fiona and Shizuke are always established as schoolmates, Damien is always some sort of acquaintance (mostly to Fiona and Shizuke, with him knowing about Keagan from a distance) before the rest of the cast trickles in.
His love life is mostly out of focus but he has a thing for nerds... he swears this has nothing to do with Shizuke and/or Natalia. His type is more cutesy and bubbly (he does not consider Natalia to be so lol), and strongwilled with some fire in them (he does not see Shizuke as so, sadly). Well, they say people are attracted to tend to somewhat resemble people they are already close to, like family or friends.
my adhd can't chill tf down enough to sleep so may i present this (uhhh spoilers for new-who):
Everything in Doctor Who that ought to be fixed and why:
Any time the doctor shows racism, queerphobia, sexism, ableism, classism, etc. Unless a specific prejudice of Gallifreyan society exists, it would never make sense for the Doctor to be bigoted, even the one from the '60s
Related: when Thirteen breaks the Master's perception filter so the nazis would see he's a man of color and thus endanger him—the Doctor would never.
Completely abandon former companions. Maybe some, maybe originally, but even 2000 years of lessons learned later? The Doctor is a good man, abandonment is too inconsistent with his characterization to be a reoccurring, unchallenged trait.
Wiping Donna's memory. Cruel, erased her character arc and was not a fulfilling or meaningful end. Either kill her or have her decide to retire.
The convoluted reason the Ponds were stuck in 1939 New York. C'mon, if I tried for five seconds I could come up with a sensical reason why the Doctor never saw them and they were stuck. Or just don't make them stuck 🤷🏼♀️ maybe they decide to adopt and retire to avoid danger to the kid but the Doctor and River still regularly visit.
The "War Doctor". Showrunners confirmed this only existed because Christopher Eccleston refused to come back for the 50th Special (no shade to his choice). It might've backfired or seemed disrespectful of Chris's performance, but they should've simply recast Nine for it.
Just throw out Kill the Moon, it was bad writing, the heavy-handed abortion allegory was exhausting and weird (regardless of intentionality) and I don't usually cry "but the science!" but...the moon being gone, even if soon after it replaced itself, would cause apocalyptic destruction on Earth and possibly wipe out humanity. The primary salvageable bit that I think is integral is the Twelve/Clara fight at the end.
Danny Pink either doesn't die or doesn't stay dead. The paradox it would cause for him to die before him and Clara have kids when her and Twelve have MET those descendants and been on two separate adventures down that family line is irreconcilable. Full stop.
Bill doesn't die. The end. (Do NOT bury your fucking gays)
Don't have Graham be the last white seat on the Rosa episode, for fucking christ's sake. Plus where the fuck is at least the mention of Claudette Colvin?
Fourteen regenerates into Thirteen's clothes, following well-established rules of regeneration (BBC were cowards for breaking that just to sidestep having David Tennant "crossdress")
Headcanon bits that aren't necessarily tied to quality/consistent writing but I think would've been great:
The Doctor does find Melody. Maybe only by age six or so, if wanting to keep the Silence story intact, but rework Let's Kill Hitler to avoid the Mel situation. It makes me sad that they never got their baby back. She can still turn out to be River, maybe the regen into River only happened post season-six, keeping the reveal. Maybe Melody was eventually re-kidnapped by the Silence and then turned into River Song, or maybe Melody was always a kind of troubled trouble-maker and took on the River Song alias on her own.
Thirteen and Yaz absolutely get together.
keep in mind I haven't finished Thirteen's run (the stink of neolib BS from the Rosa Parks episode tanked my interest in keeping up until Chibnall fucked off), haven't seen the 60th Special yet, still have 20-something seasons of Classic Who to go, and don't remember everything I have seen, nor am I always right. I think on re-watch I'd find more issues but for now it's the list I've got that exactly zero (0) people asked for.
#doctor who#my writer brain refuses to let go of any of these grudges#maybe now ill finally be able to fucking get some goddamn sleep
😮 !!
it's HIM O CLOCK
This is Vayu Chandra Das (he/him), Eden's boyfriend/later husband. They met in his dreams and conspired to rescue him from a cannibal who was slowly cutting him up for parts. It ended with him burning her house down, as is his right. And then they got separated by circumstances outside of their control, fate (derogatory). But then they found each other again after many years!
Vayu is a very gentle, soft-spoken person. Started off as a scared, skittish, pushover of a 19 year old, in the current day he's a mid 30s man and still quiet and gentle and kind and whatnot, but he also gives far less fucks and takes less shit (though he's still remarkably patient, but there's a difference between that and being a pushover). He's always been a resilient, determined little thing, I think what changed is that he became more aware of that. He does still struggle with self loathing and overextending himself for his loved ones, though.
Also his insides have embers in em.
Probably gonna be the most common NPC/"Guest Muse" on this blog, because he's very very important to Eden.
Some additional Vayu Facts
He's a trans man!
Grew up playing classic DOOM, and still plays the first two games over and over again. It's his very favourite hobby.
Currently works as a line cook, and learned to hunt during his time in Kubera's Prism. He'll hunt and cook meat, but he himself is a vegetarian. He tells people he's not familiar with that this is for religious reasons, but it's actually for trauma reasons. He's a Hindu for the record, but he and his family (Bengali Hindus, mostly) were actually not vegetarian before all this.
Before he reunited with Eden, he adopted a kid, Niraja Hiran Das (another NPC - maybe I'll introduce her next?)
Cooking and quality time as a love language.
He learned how to play the guitar in high school to impress a girl he had a crush on and also he really wanted to figure out how to play some of Tool's songs. Said girl rejected him in a very thoughtlessly cruel (but very 2000s-bigoted) way unfortunately. But Eden admires his guitar playing nowadays, so I guess it paid off in the end?
and many more. please ask eden (ic) or me (ooc) about vayu whenever you want.
Kiru's Advent Calendar, Day 3 🐕
A bit of a character study today, hope you all enjoy it :) This burned under my fingernails until I wrote it. (Bandit & Cedrick, Rating T, hurt/comfort, ~2.2k words)
.
Amidst the chaos, accompanied by yelling and screaming, a gunshot, handcuffs clinking, serious threats – in the middle of all of it, Dom weaves through the mass of bodies with one goal in mind, one target he has to reach. His blood is roaring in his ears and soaking his sleeve, the stinging coaxing his focus away from him slowly and promising to snatch his consciousness if he doesn’t get help soon.
What once was so familiar it might’ve been a second home is now a battlefield, desecrated by others who care not, know not of the bonds forged in here, the lifelong ties attached. Despite all the horrid, despicable events he’s witnessed here, his soul is in agony over this invasion. This break in reality. He wants to forget names immediately and fails: Fluppe is ashen-faced, pressed against mildewy wallpaper, Kai trying to flail his way out of an iron grip, Niko’s eyes wide in disbelief. They narrow when they land on him. A week ago, the two of them shared a cigarette as they watched the sunset and talked about whether they wanted to have kids or not.
It should be a relief.
Dom rounds the corner, steps into the yard and realises too late he doesn’t have the key for the chain. Jens might have it, but he witnessed the big man getting hauled into one of the vans a minute ago, they’ll be on their way to the station already. He’ll have to make do.
She struggles so much it hurts his heart. Tries to crawl away from him, slips through his fingers more than once, threatens to bite him even, but eventually he catches her and holds her close until she gives up. He opens the collar, wincing at the crusty chafe marks it leaves behind, and picks her up. Carrying her to one of his colleagues’ cars is less difficult than he anticipated, even with the slash down his lower arm. The adrenaline helps.
Even so, he knows he won’t sleep well later.
.
He waltzes into the lobby, interrupting a private conversation between the two women behind the counter without a care in the world, and puts his elbows onto the tall counter. His attempted smile must come out wrong somehow because the receptionists look at him with even more suspicion now. “Hi. I’d like to adopt a dog”, he announces.
“Do you have an appointment?”
For a moment, he pointedly looks around the empty room before eventually admitting: “I don’t.”
A sigh, an exchanged glance that does not need interpreting. He almost considers walking right back out again. “Well, if you want, you can walk by the kennels and -”
“I already have one in mind. Harley.”
More hesitation. “She’s – well, she’s not in a state to be adopted at the moment, but we have -”
“This way to the kennels?” He points in the most obvious direction and when the women try to object once more, he starts walking. They scramble after him but not fast enough, he squeezes through the door and ends up back outside, kennels lining the path left and right. As soon as his presence is noticed, a veritable concert starts in which more and more dogs participate, howling, barking, snarling as he walks past their (hopefully) temporary homes, checking out the photo and description on each one.
“I’m sorry, but you can’t -”
He tunes them out once he spots the familiar round eyes, wide head, cropped ears. She’s cowering in a corner, barking along with her tail between her legs, visibly distraught. It won’t be long now, he thinks, you’ll know safety soon. He squats down, hooks his fingers into the fence and mutters a quiet: “Hey, girl. It’s me. You know me, no need to bark. I’m here, darling.”
“She’s snapped at people before, I wouldn’t -”
I watched her bite a finger off. “Harley. Hey. Come here.”
The ears twitch. She blinks at him. Even in the two, maybe three weeks since they last saw each other she’s lost weight, her spine visible beneath her skin, every single ridge standing out. She’s under so much stress it’s no wonder she won’t eat.
Dom has stopped weighing himself a while ago.
“Harley. Good girl. Come to me.”
She understands. The tip of her tail – still pointed downwards – starts wagging cautiously and she takes a few steps towards him. Finally, the woman next to him has stopped gabbing and is watching in silence as he keeps talking, wiggles his fingers and brushes against a velvety snout once it’s close enough to sniff him.
“Do you know her?”
The shelter was obviously given a brief rundown of Harley’s history as now the woman looks ready to call the police. She likely figures Dom is part of the very group he helped take down, so he feels no remorse as he flashes his ID. “I do.”
“Oh – oh, I see, that’s – I was worried for a moment, you know, what with where she’s from and all. You won’t be able to take her home yet, however, she’s not accustomed to wearing a muzzle so you can’t walk her -”
“I have a large garden and I don’t mind muzzle training her myself.”
The receptionist is quickly running out of excuses, just as planned. Soon she’ll have no choice but to agree.
.
“Are you – is this a joke?”
Harley sits by his side, not letting Cedrick out of her eyes. She’s grieving, in a way, she’s been ripped from her home, drifting until Dom essentially kidnapped her again. Despite the scars visible through short fur, it was her whole world and everyone there part of her pack. It was all she knew. No wonder she’s walking on eggshells at the moment, jumping at every sound, sleeping while sitting upright when she literally can’t keep her eyes open anymore. She’s waiting for the other shoe to drop, for the world to end.
“No. I’ll only need the living room and the garden. I’ll sleep in here with her.”
His twin brother is working up the courage to refuse, Dom can sense it. “I don’t think Nicole would appreciate a vicious dog in her home. Why do you need to stay here again?”
“Can’t walk her without a muzzle. She won’t wear it yet. So I need a garden.” It’s not enough. “I’ll clean up after her.”
He’s familiar with the expression on Ced’s face, has encountered it many times before on many different faces. It’s just a few days, he used to lie, I just need a couch to crash on, you won’t even notice I’m there, I’ll disappear during the day. There’s a reason he stopped being popular with Ced’s friends.
“You’ve never wanted a dog. Does it have to be a vicious one?”
Dom doesn’t merit the comment with a reply, instead he pets Harley’s shoulder, smiling at the immediate tail wag. Her forehead crinkles in concentration when Cedrick grabs a glass of water.
“Are you doing alright?”
“Sure”, he says. Neither of them believe it.
“Have you heard from Jacqueline? I ran into her the other day and she said she might call -”
“No.” Finally, Harley gives up on the staring contest and glances at him, to make sure the curt reply wasn’t directed at her. She licks her nose, a sign of being uncomfortable – maybe she senses it’s a sore topic. Ced knows it is one and yet he asked about her anyway.
“How’s the new flat then?”
“Empty.” He didn’t bother packing his things when she ended it. Or rather didn’t want to, out of spite, just so she has to deal with memories of him. Just so he knows he’ll be a part of her life a little longer. If it does some harm, he doesn’t mind her keeping the TV.
Cedrick purses his lips. His wife is several months pregnant, he has all reason to decline putting her in any danger whatsoever. Dom and he owe each other nothing, they’ve always made sure of that, so it’s probably pity that has him nod eventually.
Not that Dom minds. This isn’t about him.
.
Harley’s head shoots up, ears pricked up and large, attentive eyes fixing on the newcomer. Dom hasn’t seen Schmidt in months, maybe years, and he didn’t miss him either. His colleague likes to make other people’s business his own, and now he’s eyeing the large dog with an expression Dom can’t read.
“Are you allowed to bring him in here?”, Schmidt asks, indicating the small office cluttered with paperwork.
“Her”, Dom corrects evenly. “And yes. At least for the time being. Stop staring at her.”
“Cute. You really need a watchdog?” He steps inside, towards Harley, until she barks once, the sharp sound reverberating in the room making him jump. “Fuck, does she bite?”
“Only the idiots who provoke her.” A challenging glance tells him Schmidt won’t let this one go, so Dom sighs. “Crouch down, look away, let her sniff your hand. Don’t pet her, don’t make any sudden movements. You can talk to her if you want.”
“She sounds even more demanding than a human bitch.” Schmidt snorts at his own joke but obliges, breaking the eye contact and keeping still as Harley, on Dom’s nudging, creeps closer to ascertain whether he’s a threat or not. “She keep you up at night? You look like shit.”
Dom doesn’t disclose he’s been sleeping on an air mattress in his brother’s living room. Their home feels more comforting than his own empty flat, but above all Harley enjoys frolicking in the garden. Sometimes, all she does is zoom around in circles, tail trailing after her like she’s forgotten about it, tongue hanging out the side of her snout. Sometimes, when Dom wakes up in the middle of the night, she looms over him, eyes full of concern as she whines until he scoots over and lets her collapse next to him, curled up and fitting perfectly into his negative space. Nicole has complained surprisingly little about their arrangement, and Dom suspects it’s because he wakes them up now and then. The nightmares haven’t gotten any better.
“I’m fine”, he lies and wants to believe it so badly.
“I bet it’s odd, being back here after you’ve been undercover for so long. Kinda blurs the edges, doesn’t it? A guy like you must’ve made a lot of friends.”
Harley takes a few steps backwards and looks up at Dom, as if to say ‘he’s not dangerous, but I don’t like him anyway’. He can’t help the smile stealing onto his lips. Same here, girl. “Is there anything I can help you with?”
“Not really.” Schmidt gets back up and stretches his legs. “Just wanted to let you know that one of the guys offed himself. I think it was the one with all the piercings. Probably couldn’t stomach the thought their drug imperium got busted.”
Dom remains silent. He knows who this is about, knows the kid was only just eighteen. Knows he had other problems, wasn’t even dealing, only needed a place to go. Maybe he figured nobody would take him anymore, not after getting arrested.
Jesus Christ.
“See you around, Brunsmeier. Teach your mutt some manners.” Schmidt disappears again, leaving behind a vague, grey feeling in Dom’s stomach. He offers his hand and Harley trudges over, pressing her flank against his leg and wagging her tail as he pets her. The dark fur has softened over the weeks, her skittishness lessened. She just stands calmly as Dom rubs his cheek against her until he can breathe normally again.
It takes a while.
.
And then, eventually, there’s the moment.
Something inconsequential is flickering on the screen though the white noise relaxes the baby, so the TV stays on. It’s Cedrick’s turn to cook today, meaning Dom is folded up in the armchair, staring into nothingness as he merely exists, doesn’t think, doesn’t mind. The clattering of pots and pans is even more comforting than the quiet, empty blabbering of the bad comedy running its course on the small screen.
It smells good.
Nicole is cradling her son, Dom’s nephew, relishing the moment of quiet. The bags under her eyes are familiar to Dom though the source for hers is more reason for joy than his. Still, it’s gotten better. He’s only a guest here anymore, sleeps in his own bed now.
He’s started to collect low-maintenance plants for the windowsills.
And next to her, Harley, her large head resting by Nicole’s thigh. It took Nicole about three visits before she allowed the dog on the sofa. Her hand strays to Harley’s side, brushes against her ribs and strokes her belly until she rolls on her back, sighing in contentment. It’s the first time she’s done this and Dom can’t help but smile at the unfamiliar sight.
He looks at her, the same dog who didn’t dare to sleep on the blankets he provided in case she’d get punished, all loose and unguarded and blissful. Now you know what love feels like, he thinks.
And he wonders who ended up saving whom in all this.
DSMP/Shugo Chara AU
Tommy is a kid being fostered by Philza and Kristin, and he is having a Time.
He gets along well w the parents, but he's struggling to get along with his foster siblings (Wilbur and Techno). He does okay in school, but he has no friends because he's garnered a Reputation and so the other kids are either scared of him or just don't like him.
After a particularly rough day, where he gets into a fight at school and then an argument with Wilbur, he he goes to bed wishing he could be different. Show people he's more than just some loud and brash annoying kid.
The next day he wakes up with two eggs in his bed.
He asks/confronts Techno and Wilbur about the eggs to see if they put them there, he learns it wasn't them (although Techno is rather sus about it)
Unsure what to do with the eggs, and not wanting to throw them away for some reason, he ends up carrying them around with him.
And then he eggs hatch and BAM! Guardian Characters!
The first guardian (Name TBD) represents his desire to be 'softer', enjoy hobbies that people normally wouldn't expect a kid like him to enjoy, and just overall gentler.
The second guardian (Name also TBD) represents his desire to be more levelheaded and confident, and have the strength to stand up/protect others.
He meets Tubbo and Ranboo, via guardian character shenanigans, who also have their own GC's.
Tubbo has 2 and Ranboo has 3.
Later down the line he learns that Techno also has a GC! And they bond through that!
I don't really know what the plot would've been beyond Tommy finding his place in the family and being adopted by the end.
Other people who would have Guardian Characters include: Dream, Eret, Quackity, Niki, and Aimsey (There'd be more but these are the only ones I've actually figured out so far)
So continuation of this post ->
Jason adopts Danny as his own.
At first he has no idea what he's doing and does extensive research on how to care for his new son. He fumbles a bit at when actually buying baby products as he's not sure exactly what he'll need, intill a mother of two spots him and helps him out.
In order for the batfamily not to find out about his kid he just puts Danny to sleep before patrols and locks his whole apartment down, leaving a camera to watch over Danny and check on him when ever he gets the chance.
Sometimes making a quick pit stop back to feed or put him back to sleep if he woke up.
Eventually he gets the hang of parenting and hiding his son. Intill hes just relaxing, reading a book at the end of patrol before bed. And gets an unexpected visit from one of the bat fam (I'm thinking nightwing but could be any). They look between Jason and the sleeping baby in a cot before they evidently become incredibly concerned and confused.
Where did this baby even come from?
Why is there a baby? WHY DOES JASON HAVE A BABY??
Jason has to finally Reluctantly reveal his sons existence and the whole family goes wild.
Bruce: I have a grandson? :0
Dick: I have a Nephew! :D
Tim: Should we be concerned?
Duke: Oh God, the Bird adoption tendency has passed onto Jason..
Damian: ... What
Cass: Nephew :D
Stephanie: I'm gonna be an awesome aunt! >:D
They all immediately try and meet the little guy but have a hard time when a very protective Jason practically hisses at them when they try to get close without his invitation. Especially Bruce. Telling them all that he'll let them met him eventually over time under his choosing.
First is Alfred and Barbara (obviously) who is absolutely in love with little Danny on sight. His little great grandson. And Barbara's technical Nephew.
Bab's absolutely melts when she gets to hold his little self bundled in fabric. And tears up when reaches for her face and gently munches on her hair.
When Alfred got to hold him and he had to wipe his eyes then well, he just has to do some dusting later that's all.
Next is the overwhelmed with excitement Richard. Dick is absolutely overjoyed to meet his little Nephew and immediately crys when Jason allows him to hold the little guy and Danny grabs one of his fingers. The little guy was holding his finger! With his whole fist!
Cass and Steph were after Dick, Cass absolutely loved him and even had a gift lined up for him (that others were jealous of since they hadn't even thought about that!)
A stuffed toy Bat that Danny immediately took and held close. Steph followed up with Cass's idea and bought clothes for Danny, JL themed because it was funny.
Both got to hold him and both got to take turns bottle feeding him. He went to sleep in Cass's arms and had to be taken back by Jason.
Next up had been Duke and Tim. Both were very intrigued to meet him and Tim even made the comment that he looked identical to Jason.
Black hair, blue eyes, white streak. He was honestly suprised to hear from Jason that no, he was not biologically Danny's father. And that it was just incredible coincidence.
Duke makes fun of Jason with the Bruce adoption trait the entire time.
When they got to hold him they fell for his little chubby face and adorable sky blue eyes. This was the're Nephew, and they would absolutely protect the little guy from harm.
Finally it was Bruce and Damians turn,
Bruce was holding in all of his questions and all of his excitement. In order not to scare away his second son who had finally given the okay for him to meet his grandson.
Damian wasn't as enthusiastic as all the others but Bruce could tell he was curious.
As soon as Bruce laid eyes on the little bundled form in Jasons arms. He felt himself smile and his heart skip a beat.
That was the newest addition to his family. His little grandson.
His sons first and foremost rule was that Danny was his adopted son and not up for Bruce to take. Bruce readily agreed.
And that Danny was not to ever become a robin. Jason didn't want that for his son.
Damian looked at the little baby that in turn, turned to face Damian with wide eyes.
Damian blinked owlishly as the little one smiled widely and reached for him cooing.
Jason was also suprised.
"He likes the demon brat?"
Damian gave his hand to Danny experimentally and Danny happily took it and did not want to let go for a while.
Damian wondered if Danny would like animals?
Would Todd even let him show Danny all his animals?
Bruce would not not lie and say he wasnt jealous at the little ones quick effection to his youngest.
When Jason asked if Bruce would like to hold Danny he jumped at the opportunity. A rare show of trust, a sign of repair to there broken relationship.
When Danny was laid in Bruce's waiting arms it took all he had not to cry then and there. He was just so perfect. Danny curled up a bit and with an adorable little yawn, and drifted of to sleep in Bryce's arms.
I have all these random cute and funny sernarios in my head of Danny interacting with the family as he grows up.
Thinking that the whole family actively try and keep the vigilantism a secret from Danny intill hes a bit older.
Also thinking of either Danny still has his ghost powers and they just awaken incredibly slow over time from toddler age (floating toddler would be incredibly funny) or when he's just starting primary school and he's just absolutely terrified with no idea whats going on and Jasons freaking out on what to do. (Adding a how to care for your Meta child book in his library.)
I'm this 🤏 close to turning this into a fanfic>°>
With like a whole story line and everything. This au's begging to stick.
Also I have some art for this lined up that I'll post next.
Also @starkcravingmad tag as requested:)
Random Lab Rats family headcanon:
* mostly includes Leo *
* will add more as I think of them *
* tw: some mental health discussion *
* will add Oliver, Kaz, and Skylar here later *
• whenever Bree would get up to try to get something, and she says, "I'll be quick," Leo would always reply with "Not too quick." He used to say it when they're around people who aren't family members, but then he kept the tradition even when the world already knows about her abilities.
It annoyed her to no end in the beginning, but as they get older, it becomes their inside joke.
• Adam once sold his car to a guy at the park in exchange of the St. Bernard puppies he was selling. Donald and Tasha, of course, were mortified and had to go out to bargain with the park guy to get the car back.
Meanwhile, Adam had Bree, Chase, and Leo help him bathe the puppies. He named them that night: Twinky, Snoball, Donut, Zinger, and Cupcake.
Chase frowned as Adam gave him Zinger to dry off. "You named them after Hostess cakes?"
"Yeah?"
"Why?" Bree asked, chuckling.
Adam shrugged. "'Cause I'm hungry."
• Sadly, Adam couldn't keep the puppies, even after telling his parents that he got them to give to his younger siblings. He was extremely down about it, so Tasha talked Donald into letting Adam help them find good homes for the pups.
To Tasha's surprise, her mom and dad decided to adopt one, namely, Cupcake. This made Adam happy, knowing that he can play with and walk Cupcake whenever they visit the Dooleys.
• while the three of them were hanging out, chatting and drinking one night, Tasha happened to mention a coworker who's going through a divorce. "If you guys ever divorce, who's getting the kids?" Douglas asked Tasha and Donald.
The two only stared at him.
"I mean, hypothetically," Douglas insisted.
No one says anything for a while, but when it was obvious Douglas was truly curious and wouldn't drop it, Donald replied with, "I don't know. Adam's almost 19, and Bree's turning 18 next month. We don't have to contest for the two of them. Chase will probably end up with me, and Leo will be with Tasha."
"Why are we even talking about this?" Tasha asked. "Donald and I have no plans of divorcing. At all."
"What happens to me?" Douglas asked Donald.
Donald shot him a baffled look. "Me. You're staying with me," he said. That should have been obvious. "You're my brother."
"Oh." Douglas sat on that information as he picked up some fries. Before washing it down with beer, he muttered, "That's sad."
Donald frowned at him.
"Can I still visit Leo?" Douglas asked Tasha with all seriousness.
Tasha blinked. "Sure?" She laughed, finding this all amusing. "Douglas. Your brother and I aren't divorced. We're not planning to. We're all staying together."
"So I can keep the kids."
"No, Donald and I keep the kids. You get to watch over them and make sure they're happy and safe."
"Like a third parent."
"Exactly."
"But I don't see why we can't just divide the kids. There's three of us, and there's four of them. There's enough for all of us!"
"Yeah, and what do you propose we do, Douglas? Divide one of the kids in three?" Donald asks. "How does that even make sense?"
"Look, we don't have to." He takes another swig of beer. "I can just take one. One of you can have two. Now, I know Chase is your favorite, so you can have him."
"Okay?"
"Now, I know Leo's yours and all," he tells Tasha, "but can't you just take Adam and Bree? Like, that's two, right? That's better than one. And Adam loves having you as a mom. Bree also likes having a mom. It's a win-win."
"Douglas, I'm not giving you my son," Tasha said.
"Why not?"
"I gave birth to him!"
Douglas frowns, sinking into his chair with defeat. "I don't see how that's fair," he muttered. "Just because men can't have babies..."
It dawned on Donald then that Douglas was on his third bottle. He was far from being absolutely slapped, but his questions and lines of thought should've been indicative of how buzzed he already was.
He sighed. "Look, you can take care of Leo..."
"I can?"
"Yes," Donald said as he carefully took the beer bottle away from him, "because you're his uncle. It'd be great if you show the same favoritism towards the other kids, though."
"Well, if all of them are my favorites, then I don't have any favorites."
True. It kinda annoyed Donald that his brother made sense and didn't at the same time. "Why don't we just stop here and get a ride home?" he offered amiably. He took out his phone and said, "It's too late to call the driver, so let's just take an Uber."
There was a pause. Then, "Honey."
"Yeah?"
"We're home." A grin was growing on Tasha's face. "We've never left the house."
Confused, Donald looked around him.
Behind him was the pool, the house. On top of their table, in the midst of all the food and snacks, was the vintage bottle of wine he said he'd been wanting to try.
It was almost empty.
Realizing what his older brother had realized, Douglas chuckled. "Chase is gonna have a rooooooough year," he said.
The grin on Tasha's face vanished when she rolled her eyes. "Again, Douglas: we're not divorced."
• Later on, in his mid-20s, Chase discovers that he has developed panic disorder due to his commando app (the activation of it on and off throughout the years has created a chemical imbalance in his brain). The first person he came to for help after the initial attacks? Tasha. She's the only one he trusts. He feels Donald would keep dismissing it like he did the first two times, and Douglas would try to solve it (which isn't really what he needs). Meanwhile, he feels Adam, Bree, and the EF team would just make fun of him.
Tasha helps Chase find the right therapist for him, which they do. Leo also becomes one of the first support systems for Chase since he, too, went through anxiety and depression when he was younger.
Chase finds comfort in them when days are tough, which brings them all closer together. (This leads to Chase's first slip of calling Tasha "mom." He apologized, but Tasha tells him she's okay with whatever he's comfortable with. So, soon enough, he just starts calling her Mom.)
the Hosts as Dads
I'm late for Father's Day but WHOOPS! have some fluff
-
Tamaki:
Literally his greatest wish in life is to have a family, so he would be desperate for kids
As soon as you’re ready to have them, he’s ready
Worships you and your baby bump
To him, you are a goddess--you create life, you carry the most precious gifts in the world
He passes out the first time you go into labor
And is a bawling MESS when he holds his child for the first time
Cannot stop crying and cooing over the baby
Wants as many kids as you do, and then begs you to pop out another one
Maybe 5 or 6
Impulse buys EVERYTHING
Tamaki we’re only having one baby we don’t need three cribs
Tamaki we already have three toy boxes FULL--
Raising his sons to be little hosts and his daughters as little ladies
Spoils them ROTTEN with all the affection he never received as a child, but they’re all so sweet and not brats because he’s their dad
Refers to himself as “père” or “papa” and you as “maman”
Teaches his babies French, of course
He has very strong European genes, so most of the kids end up looking more like him
IMAGINE THE TINY TAMAKI DOPPLEGANGERS TODDLING AROUND SPEAKING HALF-FRENCH HALF-JAPANESE
Honestly? Becomes a stay at home dad
Teaches his little ones to play piano
Kyoya:
Doesn’t have the first inkling of how to raise a child
Straight up when he finds out you’re pregnant his first words are, “Good, the Ootori Company will have an heir.”
Kyoya I stg--
Holds you in extremely high esteem as you carry your children
Not really the doting type, but he does make sure you have everything you could ever want
Very subtly checks on your comfort, if you’re in any pain, etc and tries to fix it
Chooses not to watch you go into labor. He doesn’t think it proper and he honestly believes he will be a hindrance
He stops breathing when he sees his child for the first time
A little baby girl with a full head of black hair
Of course he loves her, but he doesn’t know how to articulate it
All he knows is that he doesn’t want to be like his own father
But one day you were out of town overnight, and all the nannies had gone home so when the baby cried, Kyoya had to check on her
And when he held that baby and truly looked at her, looking at his future, holding his entire world in his arms, he fell apart
Sat in the rocking chair and CRIED as his baby went back to sleep
After that his favorite thing to do is have her nap on his chest while he reads a book
And just likes to look at and admire her
Second child is a son
Daughter is bossy and business minded; son is laid back
Both kids need glasses
Hikaru:
Okay we know this boy has no patience and very bad impulse control
So it comes as no surprise to anyone when he knocks up his college girlfriend
Is a surprisingly well-adjusted dad
His parents were never really around for his childhood, and even though he had Kaoru, his little baby boy doesn’t, so he’s as hands-on as possible
Proposes to his girlfriend on their child’s first birthday. All the pictures have the kid smashing cake in them
Every single host is dying at the opportunity to babysit
Hikaru is still as reckless as he was when he wasn’t a father
I mean, he has a little more common sense, but not much
Thank God for Kaoru
Imagining 19-year-old Hikaru sitting in his sophomore tech & software classes with his baby in one arm and writing notes with the other hand
Showing up to his first day at his internship with a diaper bag, computer bag and baby strapped to his chest
You and he wait a while before the next kid--get married, start your careers, settle down
Baby boy is the ring bearer
Your son is pushing six when you have another baby boy, then three years later you have a girl
The middle child is an absolute angel, while the oldest and youngest are devils
Hikaru likes to sing to the babies when they’re fussy. He’s horrible at it, but nothing calms them like their father’s voice
Crawls into bed with them to soothe them when they have nightmares
Imagine walking in on them one morning, toddler’s head curled on Hika’s chest, him sprawled out, both of them drooling buckets
Roughousing with his boys and his girl, playing football, wrestling, just being a goofball
Please. dad Hika with a baby strapped to his chest is sending me to the astral realm
Kaoru:
He would love to father his own kids, but I firmly believe he would adopt as well!
Have two of his own, and then adopt one or two
Would also be a really great stepdad, I think
Cracks Dad jokes as soon as he finds out you’re pregnant
Normally a sensitive soul, he becomes extremely protective
Holds your hand and kisses your forehead during labor
Has the biggest, brightest smile through his tears when he holds your son for the first time
Does most of his work at home
Also keeps the baby in a harness strapped to his chest
He loves carrying the diaper bag and will bite anyone who tries to take it from him
His kids are his biggest inspiration, so he decides to open a kids clothing line
Your babies are the models
Because of that, one of them pursues modeling as a career and Kaoru couldn’t be more proud
They all look like him, but they don’t look like Hikaru, which is weird and messes with your head
He’s the perfect Dad. He spoils them but is also very disciplined
Spends quiet Sunday afternoons sketching and cooking with them
Mitsukuni:
All his babies are tiny. Doesn’t matter how tall you are. Your children are tiny
They have his body type, too. Small, bird-like, narrow bones
But they still kick ass
He didn’t give them a chance to opt out of martial arts. They don’t have a choice--it’s the family business, and they will learn it
Unsurprisngly, they’re all very good at it
They train often with Uncle Chika and their cousins
He cheers and coaches them on at competitions
He’s offended when they don’t share his sweet tooth
I mean, they like candy. What child doesn’t? But you raised them to not be obsessive about it, which displeases him
Takashi:
Lord. Don’t get me started on him as a dad
He is a family man. It’s in his blood. That’s how he was raised and trained and taught
So he will pump eight or ten kids into you if you let him
Cries the first time he finds out you’re pregnant
Worships you like a desperate man kneeling at the temple of his god
Belly kisses. Forehead kisses. Really tender palm kisses. Kisses, kisses, kisses.
How else could he thank you for giving him the most special gift?
Even more protective than before
Scary dog privileges
Has to have a hand on you/the bump at all times
He’s so tall that he has to lean down a little to reach it, but he doesn’t mind
Prefers to hold both you and the baby, so he reclines on the couch and pulls you and the bump into his lap, wrapping his arms around you and encouraging you to rest against his chest. Let him carry the baby for a little while
Thinks you look ravishing in the maternity clothes
Stares daggers at anyone who tries to touch your bump, curling an arm around it and turning you away with a low growl
Goes slightly feral whenever you reach your due date
Each labor is difficult, but he lets you crush his hand. He’s pretty silent, but he wipes your forehead and grunts with you. Seeing you in pain makes him feel pain
When that precious little baby is delivered, he just stares at them without a word. He can’t believe that you and he made something so perfect and innocent and pure
His hands are so big. He can hold the baby in just one palm
Smiles the brightest when holding his child
He was raised with honor and chivalry and a moral code, so he raises his children the same way
Teaches both his sons and his daughters how to be kind, gentle, and nurturing while also teaching them self defense and other fighting moves
Diaper changing pro
Y’all have kids pretty close in succession, so while you’re at work he can be seen walking with a baby in a chest harness, one strapped to his back, one in a stroller and a toddler holding his hand
Sorts out and categorizes what heirlooms will go to each child
BIG emphasis on birthdays. He’s a man of tradition, and feels happiest when his children are honored.
all of your kids have his jawline and his height
