Btw this post isn’t for anti Solavellan people. Stop blaming us for liking a ship and acting like that made DA4 what it is. BioWare has been on a downward spiral for a long time, the game was in development hell, and many people were fired. The fans mindlessly giving them money right now (who are NOT only Solavellans) are contributing to future issues by giving them a pass, but even they didn’t create these problems.

I HATE GAMES....that make you go through a dialogue tree only to leave you with only ONE option to choose. i am thinking of one conversation with solas where rook's final and only option of dialogue is "I will do whatever it takes" or whatever and UGHHHH

I HATE THAT especially when i'm trying to run a character that would NEVER say that???

I honestly thought I was gonna feel more SEEN with Emmrich because, well, I too have a debilitating fear of death (in the form of an OCD obsession that developed during the beginning of the pandemic and left me unable to do anything for months).

I wish they could've explored the possibility that he might have been experiencing the same thing, how to live with that, how to accept things that scare us but we have no power over, how to live, finally, instead of going through live behind a curtain of fear and anxiety.

my last time speaking on this bc I’m back to my smut and stupid shit afterwards (cause yk this is my safe space 🤪😜🫶🏾👍🏾) , but I’m genuinely scared, not just for this presidency but my local leadership too. Hence why I always make such an emphasis on it. I live in a small town and it’s very much class/racially divided. The sheriff (a white woman btw but a woman nonetheless) has been actively trying to harass and run everyone from my side of town. She pretty much wrote off this area as a bunch of drug addicts and says ‘she hopes we all just kill each other’. (My family has never done, sold or even been around drugs and yet her dumbass cops are convinced bc we’re black with nice vehicles, that we must sell). She’s also pushing for the gentrification of our area so all of her rich cohorts can come and tear down our houses and build a suburbia. Just the other day, a cop made me move my vehicle from in front of a store I park at all the time bc im disabled and even the closest parking spot is far on this leg and he did it just to be an asshole. I can’t even cry abt this presidency yet bc I’m now worried that my local leaders are going to make our lives hell. Not to mention, they voted no on abortions and gender affirming care as well. I hate it here so fucking bad.

one of the things i'm most disappointed about is that da:tv will sell well. it's been designed to bring as much new players in as possible, and apparently a lot of people disappointed in it will still buy it on launch day. and ea will keep producing absolute steaming garbage with some ip slapped onto it just because it sells. theyre treating the series with as much respect as netflix originals with their medias.

we all have very fond memories of bioware games, and i like to think most of us here are better people than the average r/gaming user who thinks bioware deserves to be shut down and all the devs deserve to lose their jobs, so i understand freaking out about the future of bioware and staring at red-string theories as to where such and such went wrong during veilguard’s development and who is at fault and why we wound up with the game we did. but really, at the end of the day, we are not going to know the full story of this game’s development and i think it’s unnecessary to lose sleep over it. odds are this is just a “typical” industry story of corporate greed and awful mismanagement. bioware has been hampered by bad decision-making and crunch culture for years, and EA is a corporate cesspool that moves where the money goes. when thinking on veilguard’s end result i’m choosing to go with the simplest explanation with an easy logic to follow: EA wanted DA4 to be a live service game because live service games were big. then anthem flopped hard and star wars jedi: fallen order was a surprise single-player success and bioware used these facts as leverage to finally pivot DA4 back to a single-player title. and what we wound up with in the end was a lot of scrapped ideas and cobbled-together leftovers from the game’s previous iterations. it is a game that many fans find messy and lackluster because the development cycle itself was messy and stressful and desperate.

and while i’m thinking about it: i do not like the veilguard, but i do think it is a very impressive feat for bioware as a studio. i think it is a fucking miracle that this game exists at all, and that it works. i think that while the writing wasn’t to my tastes, the developers wanted it to be to my tastes. they wanted to make a dragon age game that people would enjoy. the average dev at bioware, not weirdo higher-ups, knows where the studio’s strengths lie and they want to lean into them. i’m tempering my expectations for mass effect 5 but if the dev cycle for that game is smooth sailing compared to veilguard, i think we could wind up with something pretty damn good. knock on wood
