Dead Boy Detectives and The Divine Comedy

Dante's Inferno (hell), Purgatorio (purgatory), and Paradiso (heaven/paradise)

its not a complete one-to-one but its a neat thing to think about in regards to dbd

it kinda makes sense because the levels of hell in the show are based off the depiction we see in Dantes Inferno, and the next in the trilogy of the divine is where they travel the mountain of purgatory

but anyway edwins file in the night nurses book said he either goes to Hell or PLV-4s

okay this is kind of a long one so strap in

Overall:

this is based on shotty memory bUT

in the trilogy you would be put to the respective layer you belong (hell, purgatory or heaven)

if youre a sinner, hell, but Dante goes through all layers going down, then to lucifer who blocks the path leading to purgatory.

youd then have to climb up the mountain of purgatory depending on your sins for like a number of eons until you cleanse yourself of the sins, once you make it past a layer youre free of it forever and one step closer to paradise

and only then are you able to get to paradise and i THINK the layer of paradise youre placed on is based on how good a person you are or smth

Purgatory:

someone pointed out it could mean Purgatory Level V (5) or just level, and the 4s could mean how long he should spend there (?) but layer 4 is also Sloth so theres that too (the souls being that theyre forced to run all the time which is lowkey what edwin goes through in hell)

which is the path you have to travel AFTER getting through hell you would normally go through up purgatory in order to get up to heaven once youve proven ur self worthy and ur sins righted iirc

so i think he would have to be placed somewhere in the middle (based on the level V if thats the right theory, theres 9 layers total) of that mountain based on his life and unfinished business and everything hes done while as a ghost he would have already been pushed up a few levels

so im assuming the night nurse's book was like glitching out because he was supposed to be in hell (on a technicality) but he served time there being passed around demon to demon, made it out of hell, but in the opposite way of purgatory

according to Dante's i believe he would have gone to purgatory IF he had unfinished business but he made it back to earth (the wrong way), and because of the things he did helping ghosts it technically counted towards his unfinished business so like he should be in hell because thats where he was placed last BUT everything hes done post-post-mortem wouldve counted towards purgatory and (maybe up to heaven ?)

Paradise:

on another theory, PLV could either mean paradise level Venus (the lovers) being the 3rd layer but the layer of heaven granted to those who in life were deficient in the temperance of love (smth smth edwins repressed feelings and never engaging in then smth smth)

the 4th layer is the Sun (the wise) -4s maybe?- which hold the souls of the wise, which kinda plays into edwin being the brains of the team so to speak, and he was seen reading in his mortal life before dying, as well as knowing a bunch of languages and probably a whole bunch more in his afterlife (in the comics they taught french at st hilarions so im assuming he knew that before he died)

the 5th layer is Mars (the warriors of faith)- maybe layer V?- i dont really believe this is the case bc this layer is given to those who gave up their life in the name of faith, but i would like to believe everything he went through in hell and also everything he gave up eternal virtue for to help the lost souls left on earth could grant him to be a warrior

idk take it all with a grain of salt because i learned about dantes inferno like last year and really only remember the hell part of it all. also dante thought that gay people were worse than murderers in hell so thats another issue. aND the sandman universe takes into account all faiths and religions and gods and mythology theres not actually a true one god. and the divine comedy is very much a catholic read so yeah

finished knitting this set for my mom's malibu. (dont mind the clashing swimsuit peeking out. she bit us when we tried to remove it.) i had to get used to knitting again and try out my stitch counts and needle sizes, so this was a good way to make something low effort but with an appreciated result.

vague instructions under cut if you want to knit similar

fingering weight yarn (i think. im not good at this i just test stuff and see what works) on 3mm needles for the main parts but 2mm needles for the cast-on and the k1p1 rib on the edges, to make those look neater.

34st co for the hat (mine is stitched in the back bc i dont knit round) is a good but tight fit on malibu heads, didnt try it on anyone else, doing a swatch first is best ofc both if your doll is different and if your yarn and tension is different than mine. after a few rows of 34st (maybe 7 or so rows?) decrease quickly but gradually (quickly to remove unnecessary bulk, gradually for nice tapering shape).

clothes are on a classic barbie body (i used my MTM while knitting and it also fits this malibu repro body). the dress and cardigan have a bit different yarn weight (cotton vs wool mix)

the dress is a tube and total 40st wide around chest, 32st around waist, and prob around 40st for hips too (i was dcr from the co which was a bit wider). again though doing test swatches saves lives.

the grey cardigan was knit in panels (front x2, back, sleeve x2). the back is just 32st with no dcr (co same k1p1 rib on 2mm as stated at top^ for all this sweater's bottom parts and sleeve cuffs tho not visible bc mom folded them over), each front panel is 16st out of which 3st are a garter edge (knit every row for those 3st). the sleeves are co 12st for the rib, incr to 14st total when switching to stockinette, and incr to 16st total by the elbow. they are pretty tight and i wrote in my notes to maybe incr to 16 after the rib and 18 at the elbow, but it depends if you want a tighter or chunkier fit. and ofc, what your yarns are like. swatches plz. the garter edges still want to curl quite a bit so blocking this wouldve been convenient (but i never do) or simply tying a ribbon between them or adding a small button to keep them in place would work. lazily embroidered a little poinsettia or star type thing on each front panel.

if i make a sweater with the same yarn of the cardigan after this i'd go with a bit less than the cardigan's panel widths, maybe around 28st instead of 32st and see how that goes, but its not a bad look with the cozy loose size either. i think this wont rly help anyone tho bc it will just depend on your yarn and tension and doll.

tip for making boring test swatches: you can make miniature pillows or blankets out of them, or squares to use for miniature quilts, or miniature rugs, etc. they dont have to feel like a waste of time. just write down a note in some organised place about the swatch size/stitchcount results and what yarn it is and what needles you used, so you dont have to keep worrying about that once the swatch found its new use.

before any of the staff realized, their first week of the new quarter had flown by, and it was time to go home for the weekend (or, just saturday since they had to come back sunday).

the first concierge/receptionist unit (aka miyeon, y/n, minnie, chan, soonyoung, sakura, and mingyu) finished cleaning up their stations, before miyeon and y/n went to explain the night shift to the manager of the second unit from the other department.

“finally, just barely 20 minutes overtime. its only 10:20 but does anyone want to go for a late dinner with the other staff from our department?” miyeon suggested to her team of 6.

“yeah sure, ill need to find seungkwan first? he’s my ride home.” chan said as he started to walk down the hall as soonyoung called out, “make sure he brings down all of his staff too!”

“alright is that a yes from everyone else?”

“except for me, my auntie is visiting from japan and i need to be the one to pick her up from the airport.” sakura said while waving at everyone as she walked towards the exit.

the unit began to converse amongst themselves as they waited for the other staff in their department before they felt the ground shake the walls harshly, the winds howl as their speeds increased and the front doors be pushed open.

“earthquake! everyone get under the desk!” miyeon yelled out, her staff being her priority as manager.

they all took cover underneath the receptionists desk before hearing a loud thud after a few minutes, leaving the glass on some of the doors shattered.

everyone got up to see what the noise was, only for their faces to freeze in shock.

“s-snow?!” minnie exclaimed. “there wasnt any snow in the forecast this week at all! and its barely the first few weeks of winter..”

“im sure you’re just as shocked as any of us are. i hope sakuras safe, im just glad she got out. uh- y/n! call sakura while i try to reach seungkwan and josh? and someone go to check out the side and back doors! don’t go alone! the powers iffy right now.” miyeon safely instructed off the top of her head, trying to remain calm in front of her staff.

you pull out your phone, dialing sakuras number as you tap your foot repeatedly against the floor in impatience and worry.

she picked up after the first few rings, “hello?”

“sakura! where are you? are you okay?”

“no, yeah im fine. im just off the side of that bridge a few miles away from the hotel. but the real question is, are you guys okay?”

“you felt it? we’re fine. splitting up duties to ensure safety. and why are you off to the side off the bridge? i assumed you wouldve been at the airport already.”

“everyone in seoul felt it. but i think it hit you guys the hardest since it came closest from that direction. you know, some cars were flipping over as i was about to pull out the parking lot!”

“just glad youre safe, but if you see the hotel, how bad does it look like we’re snowed in?”

“pretty bad.. looks snowed in on all sides and that wall of snow is so tall it goes beyond the 9th floor. that’s at least 7 meters thick going outwards.”

“shit. alright. i gotta go, but get home safely okay? bye!”

after getting off the phone with sakura, y/n goes back as she sees some of her coworkers returning from opposite directions after looking at the exits.

“theyre all blocked. completely. the garage tunnel is entirely blocked through the stairs, elevator, and side door too.” mingyu and soonyoung reported with minnie following not far behind despite being told not to go alone.

“should we call the police?”

“ill try, i just got off the phone.” you said, but just as you swiped emergency call, you immediately had no bars. “what? anyone else have service?”

everyone pulled out their phones and held it in the middle so you could see, “guess the signal just dropped.” you muttered as you dialed 119 anyway.

‘we’re sorry, the person you are trying to reach is-’

“has anyone noticed chan hasnt come back yet? its been like, well over 20 minutes.” mingyu questioned while looking around the darkly (and eerily) illuminated halls.

as mingyu walked closer, he let out a loud scream as he saw a big snd ominous silhouette coming towards him before he realized it was the rest of the staff from their department.

miyeon walked passed mingyu, playfully slapping his back before meeting up with the other managers seungkwan and josh.

“hi wonwoo.” you smiled, wrapping your arms around him brightly as you were now reassured your childhood best friend was safe now that he was in your arms.

“hi y/n. you’re not hurt or anything right?” he asked while looking around your body as he kept his hands on your shoulders.

“no im completely fine. what took you guys so long to come out though?”

“we still had a lot to clean up, but then chan went to kwans restaurant then jun just HAD to make a quick meal for him before coming to us and it always takes long if the cafe is the last stop.”

after everyone discussing what had to be discussed, such as agreeing to try calling for help in the morning, etc, etc, wonwoo announced to everyone they’ll have to check out rooms for each other and that they had to be paired up into twos.

so of course, he made you and minghao be ‘roommates’ for the time being.

“are you serious??” minghao whisper shouted as he pulled wonwoo into a corner, watching as everyone walked towards the stairwell.

“you were the only two left.” wonwoo shrugged, playing it off even though he was aware minghao clearly knew about his schemes.

after climbing 29 flights of stairs (seeing as the elevator broke), you were all beyond exhausted.

so, you took your room key from miyeon before following minghao to your shared room.

you opened the door and sigh in relief as you saw the two beds separated by a nightstand, taking off your shoes before lying down.

minghao ran a hand through his hair as he walked out from the bathroom to get himself ready for bed.

he went under the white sheets and muttered a grumpy, “dont even try talking to me.” before turning out the light, leaving you with your thoughts in the darkness.

dear mihai i need you opinion on something. i think im going crazy with this bcs. everyone draws genderbend shu (like shu as a cis girl) extremely femenine. and im like. she would want to be masculine. if you cisswap shu and want his character to continue making sense she has to be a girl who liked masculine things as a child and was punished for it. the trauma that this punishment for not adhearing to gender norms created is like. one of the fundamental parts of his character. she would not dress femenine she would be a masculine "woman" (bcs she also wouldn't completely adapt to gender binary, like canon shu does, i mean) or at least a very androginous individual. i think he would look almost the same as our shu😭ALSO SHE WONT WEAR REVELING CLOTHES why everyone thinks that if she was a cis girl she would start wearing big ass. idk this word in english. neckline? she wont be going around yumenosaki with her tits out!! Im sorry this is not that serious but i feel crazy?? I am missing something??

I dont think people are ever going to agree on cisbended character headcanons simply because you cant know what else other people are changing from canon. For example, shu's experience of being bullied for liking feminine things, vintage dolls, sewing. Would they remain? How would that play into the bullying? It's certainly possible for a young girl to be bullied by her peers for having antiquated interests and an uncommon fashion style. But would her perception of dolls be different? Would they still represent an ideal? Perhaps she'd find different types of dolls interesting. Oh but since madonee is related to itsuki peepaw, then im curious how her relationship to grandpa would change; perhaps grandpa would see himself, his interests, in shu but she'd have been born a girl which he also wouldve longed to be. Or perhaps she'd have a transmasc grandma, who's to say. Femstars is a playground unique to each person thinking up its building blocks and players.

If we change her interests to masculine ones, what would they be? How would they then affect shu's perception of art, perfection, ideals, her performances? Would she still be sewing clothes? What would her relationship with kuro's mom be like, would it be with his dad instead? What form would the mademoiselle alter take? I still think her story would include accepting both her feminine and masculine sides, but i wonder what the journey wouldve looked like... these are not questions i can give concrete answers to because i dont know the rules of this AU, as i said, an individual mozaiq of changes and directions. I can at most speculate as someone who is not a femstars artist or fic writer, i just have my 2 cents to give.

I said my thoughts in that previous ask about her body, but clothing wise to add, i think she'd wear a long skirt uniform at school and fully buttoned up shirts. Many layers. The performance outfits would be very similar if not the same as canon though. As for hair... i see her with a long pixie in school, eventually growing it out into a french bob later in paris.

having had a workplace crush in the teaching environment, here is how i would assign the boys as teachers. given my experience in in elementary but we’ll let it slide. obvi they would all love to be music teacher but i cant pick one.

chan: channie has a calling in math. he’d sit on the floor with kids and use all different kinds of tools to help students find their way of thinking. he wouldn’t force the standard way of math. he’s rarely behind his desk, his class is so hands on, all the kids use different methods to learn and they are the top of the school.

lino: lee know would be incredible in the theatre teacher roll. imagine him helping the quiet kids finding their voices. every year starts off with stage blocking and moving correctly so he gets to joke around and they see that the quiet looming teacher is actually a goofball? and they get to spend a whole year with this guy who quickly showed his colors.

binnie: this man is a p.e. teacher. argue with the wall. also he lives for two things: dodgeball and field day. seeing the kids let out all their energy and laugh their asses off while also exercising? nothing can make him happier. he spends all year planning the best activities for field day and makes sure to ask the kids what they would like.

hyune: an art teacher. but he loves stepping in and helping for the ela teachers!! his classroom is filled with his students art (he refers to his students as his kids), he’s been told multiple times to take it down by fire marshals but he’ll take the risk. he loves to see what creations they come up with, and he WILL take things home.

han: han would kill it as a history teacher. every history teacher i had was so carefree and i know that han would love to have kids act things out. he’d have a couch in his room for kids to relax on while working. he’d be super chill with deadlines and things like that. also he’s be open about his anxiety so his kids can see that adults are like them too.

felix: home economics. he spends his weekends coming up with different ways to make recipes accessible for kids with allergies and food restrictions. he makes sure everything is up to standards and is fun for students too. he loves to play videos for the kids so they have fun. also has a food pantry for all the kids on campus just in case they need something to eat.

seungie: seungmin gives off bio or chem teacher energy. but in the best way. most science teachers can be kind of anxiety inducing, but he would make sure to write a joke on the board everyday, he’d wear his pocchaco hairclip on test days to lighten the mood, or go around putting stickers on people papers then denying it just bc he thinks its funny.

innie: language arts. he loves loves loves helping the students write and find their voice. whether it’s essays, poems, short stories, he loves seeing his students grow during the school year. also his kids love story time (yes he does story time and he would never take that from his kids) they love to hear his voices!

here we have everyones favorite stealth Department Investigator, Sweetheart!! serving those blessed enough to see them in person the “undercover investigator at a ball” realness. i feel like the slit with the simple yet eloquently detailed dress is just as the french would say “tre magnifique” .. and you just know milo turned it out just as well in an all black suit detailed with pearls and perfectly picked jewelry

now one of my personal favorites and my second closest kins amongst the listener, DARLIN’ / tank / hardest bitch on the block.. wtv u wanna call her.

now see i wanted to go a different route because i feel like tank as much as she wouldnt mind wearing a custom made gown and have her hair and makeup done by professionals with the rest of the girls, i feel like she’d definitely serve in something like this still custom made and her make up still done but she did it herself bc she knows what fits her face best. shes giving a little bit of androgyny while still siding in feminine and i adore it. only thing missing would be like a small crown or headpiece of some sort that obviously matched what sam wouldve been wearing but not something to crazy or out there that it distracts from the entire outfit itself.

with lovely unlike with the rest of the girls i had a harder time figuring out what someone partnered with both the host of summit and the prince of house of solaire would wear.. but i settled on this as i feel its elevated enough to where everyone wouldnt wanna take their eyes off of her but also elegant enough for the eyes to be staying on because she looks so good. this paired with the silver and black crown i imagined her getting from vincent is just perfect

now coming from the house of solaire obviously alexis had to show up dressed down to the 9s, especially when darlin’ and lovely will be in attendance .. the nonexistent “whos the fairest of them all” competition happening in alexis’ head would only lead her to wear this gorgeous, obviously designer, all black floor length gown of which is more than likely one of a kind and a very special piece to her. when i imagine alexis, well i dont really have to imagine when i heard her voice during the imperium i kind of already knew what kind of fashion sense she would go for. and thats why she was honestly the easiest to pick for this.

While I do agree with your points on how fans should do research on what people from the nation they’re drawing look like to better represent them, I don’t think the tags of that post were the best place to express that. I think your own separate post would have been best, that way it would have avoided any misconceptions. Cause again to me it kinda seemed like you came into my house and started yelling at me lol.

firstly i apologize for how long this is going to be 😭

most of my complaints re: tears of the kingdom center on botw exhaustion - that i'm sort of tired of the map and have no more joy of exploration anymore after 100%ing such an enormous game (almost twice - on the first file i did everything except the korok seeds, but i got enough to max out my inventory i think). but every once in awhile i will come across an area that looks totally and completely innocuous and get incredibly tense out of nowhere. and sure enough in a minute i will remember, "a guardian used to be here," or "a lynel used to be here." it takes a minute, but i do remember! and even knowing they aren't here anymore, it's a little hard to relax. if i were ever to play botw again*, i bet i would feel the same way about areas that have hands now lol. day fuckin one i want yall to know c!gem has been the coolest character with actual depth to her actions and its genuinely amazing and kudos to cc!gem for thinking through how her character acts bc she gave her FLAWS and its so refreshing

first of all here’s the hottest take i have; WRA are by many definitions ‘Antagonists’ and all four members within WRA are on the lower end of moral alignment (mostly within the lawful neutral to chaotic neutral) and most if not all of them are chaotic neutral.

Short definition but lawful neutral is a character who follows their own whims- they’re an individual- and avoids restrictions upon that freedom. they dont go out of their way to do the morally good thing like uprooting evil unless it really sways them personally.

And c!gem is a part of this! don’t take this as me saying she’s a bad person (she opened the academy, she lets in students without discrimination, she helps clean up problems when she is affiliated with the cause of them happening) but she’s simply a person with a goal and she works towards that goal and along the way she doesn’t pay much attention to the moral right or wrong— rather what would cause the most problems for the group (inconvenience < morally wrong)

C!gem’s main drive is knowledge, specifically the spreading of knowledge and the greater understanding of magic. Secondary to that, i’d say her drive is to keep her loved ones safe. But again, she’s not a Bad Person its just that her morality gets a little funky bc I don’t think she usually realizes what she does is immoral (probably because shes lived alone with just c!fwhip as they grew up god knows where, they’re very isolationist and spending all the time alone means you don’t learn to realize what you do impacts people beyond your bubble but thats more hc territory)Examples including;

- giving c!jimmy the answers to her puzzle that blocked the end with the caveat of ‘this will cost you’, with the addition that she didn’t actually think c!jimmy would be able to finish the puzzles meaning she wouldve gotten an IOU for free

- her and c!fwhip getting so caught up in their plan that they didn’t stop to ask anyone if killing the dragon was a bad idea because again, they didn’t think they’d be able to do the puzzles in the first place

- c!gem not seeing any issue in c!sausage and c!fwhip blowing a ravine between mythland and the codlands and actually approving of it/ not understanding why c!jimmy was so upset

- casting a spell on c!sausage with the implied knowledge that she’ll be splitting his soul in two in order to contain the corruption within him (the amulet, apparently, does nothing- it was just to help him believe in himself)

- we can also throw her pressuring c!scott on that spell in here because again she didnt do it to be mean but since her main goal is knowledge and education/magic, she’s used to just. pushing through and not realizing that This Doesnt Work for everyone (as evident from. c!scott just throwing ice magic everywhere)

TL;DR— c!gem is morally grey because she doesn’t really understand how she needs to think through the ethical implications of what she does bc she’s so focused on the logical process. it can also be said that in the moments where she does see morally grey actions, she doesn’t take a lot of offense to them if it makes sense logistically (aka; why would c!jimmy be mad about us blowing up an area between him and sausage’s base? its for peace!)
